US, British strikes reportedly hit Houthi military posts in Yemen
[IsraelTimes] Arabic media reports joint US and British strikes targeting Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
-controlled sites in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
The Houthi-run al-Masira television channel says the strikes hit the Taizz area in the southwest of the country.

Sky News Arabic reports that the attack struck military outposts where missiles were fired at the Red Sea, citing unnamed sources.

Hamas’s Hayya seen to keep ‘peace negotiator’ role under new leader Sinwar
His title in Arabic is Chief Taqqiya Guy.

politician Khalil al-Hayya is set to continue leading indirect negotiations with Israel for a Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. ceasefire with guidance from the group’s newly appointed leader, Yahya Sinwar, who continues to run the war effort inside the enclave, three Paleostinian sources including a Hamas official say.

Experts on Paleostinian politics had seen Hayya as a leading candidate to replace Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
, due partly to his good ties with the group’s main backer, Iran, whose support will be vital for it to recover after the war.

Working under the supervision of Haniyeh, Hayya has led the group’s delegation in mediated talks with Israel aimed at securing a ceasefire and a deal to exchange Israeli hostages kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7 with Paleostinians in Israeli jails.

"Dr. Khail al-Hayya is the head of the negotiation team and there is no change to this," the Hamas official says.

Another source familiar with Hamas deliberations says Hayya enjoyed the trust of both Haniyeh and Sinwar, and says it was expected that he would "continue to lead the indirect negotiations and be the diplomatic face of the movement."

World Central Kitchen says Palestinian staffer was killed near Gaza’s Deir al-Balah

on Wednesday, four months after seven staffers were killed by Israeli strikes in an attack that drew widespread condemnation.

The WCK identifies the person as Nadi Sallout, saying in a post on X that he was "an integral member of our warehouse team from the early days of our response in Rafah and a humanitarian at his very core."
Lots of Hamasniks draw a second paycheck as staff of NGOs doing “good works” in Gaza, UNWRA being but one example.
The organization says it is still learning the details of the incident but that it believes he was off duty at the time.
Then what was he doing there at that time?
He was killed near Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, it adds, without assigning blame for his death.

Israeli Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s hit a convoy of aid vehicles traveling through Gaza on April 1, killing seven WCK staff, including citizens of the United States, Australia, Britannia and Poland. The Israel Defense Forces later called the strikes "serious mistake, which stemmed from a serious failure," and dismissed two senior officers and formally censured several others over the incident.

Nagasaki’s mayor said last week that Israeli Ambassador to Japan Gilad Cohen was not invited to Friday’s event in the southern Japanese city because of the risk of possible protests over the Israel-Hamas

Suspect who painted red hands on Paris Holocaust memorial denies racial motives
[IsraelTimes] One of three Bulgarian men fighting extradition to France claims it was ‘just hooliganism’ that led him to deface memorial; Sofia court postpones decision until September 26.

A Bulgarian man fighting extradition to La Belle France for defacing the Gay Paree Holocaust memorial in May denied Wednesday that he had acted out of racial motives, telling AFP it was "just hooliganism."
Which is also illegal, and punishable by fine and/or imprisonment, depending on how severe and expensive the outcome.
La Belle France issued European arrest warrants for three Bulgarians after red hands were painted on the Gay Paree Holocaust Memorial’s Wall of the Righteous, which lists 3,900 people honored for protecting Jews during the Nazi occupation of La Belle France in World War II.

Two Bulgarians, identified by a Sofia court as 35-year-old Georgi Filipov and 27-year-old Kiril Milushev, were detained in the Bulgarian capital in July. A third suspect was detained in Croatia.

A Sofia court on Wednesday held a hearing on whether Filipov should be extradited to La Belle France but postponed a decision until September 26.

"I took part in this but not in the sense that they say in the media, it had nothing to do with chauvinism, racism or anything else of the sort," Filipov told AFP before the hearing.

"I have nothing against anyone there or the buildings. I had simply drunk a lot of alcohol. This was just hooliganism," he said.

He told AFP that he had planned to go to Gay Paree "to see the Eiffel Tower."

"We were a bunch of drunk people. Someone proposed to do something like that and I didn’t refuse, which I regret."

He insisted he "had no idea whatsoever" what the red hands symbolize, adding that he had no alternative to running away after coming to his "senses the next day."
Sure he did. The honourable thing would be to own up and volunteer to either scrub it clean or pay to have it cleaned. What would the punishment be if some drunk French tourists destroyed the Panagyurishte Treasure?
On Monday, a regional court ordered the extradition of Milushev to La Belle France.

Bulgaria’s state security agency (SANS) said in July that the suspects "are known to gravitate around Bulgarian groups that profess far-right bully boy ideology" and the agency is working to identify the instigators of the May 14 vandalism.
So not merely ignorant, drunk yobs. Hang ‘em out to dry.
French prosecutors are investigating the men for participating in a criminal group to prepare a crime as well as damaging a protected historical building for national, ethnic, racial or religious motives.

The vandalism came amid a major uptick in antisemitic incidents globally as the Israel-Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...

Final Warning to Lebanon
[X] Defense Minister Galant in a message in Arabic to the people of Lebanon: "The people of Lebanon, Shiite Iran and its judges, led by Hezbollah, have taken Lebanon and its people hostage for the benefit of narrow sectarian interests. 7.1 Earthquake in Japan
[KyodoNews] An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 hit southwestern Japan on Thursday and tsunami advisories were issued for the Pacific coast extending to the western part of the country, sparking concerns that a megaquake may occur in the near future.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an urgent advisory on the trench-type megaquake for the first time, warning the possibility of the quake happening along the Nankai Trough, stretching from off southwestern to central Japan, is relatively higher than usual.

In consideration of the advisory, Central Japan Railway Co. said it will run the Tokaido Shinkansen Line at a slower pace than usual for about one week, while suspending operations of some expresses in the western part of the nation.

Around a dozen injuries were reported and several buildings were damaged, according to disaster management minister Yoshifumi Matsumura.

Tsunami advisories were issued for Kochi, Ehime, Oita, Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures, but the weather agency lifted them all by 10 p.m.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Prosecutors say Romanian oligarch paid Hunter Biden for influence
[BBC] US prosecutors in Hunter Biden's tax evasion case have accused him of accepting money from a Romanian oligarch who sought to "influence US government agencies".

The accusation is part of a larger case against the president's son, who is charged with evading $1.4m (£1.1m) in taxes between 2016 and 2019 while spending millions on luxury cars, drugs and escorts.

Republicans have long accused Hunter Biden, 54, of "influence peddling", although Congressional probes have yet to uncover any wrongdoing.

The tax case is scheduled to go to trial in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, in September. He has pleaded not guilty
"Wudn't me."
to the charges.

According to a court filing made on Wednesday in a Los Angeles federal court, the Romanian national hired Biden for legal work in 2015, at a time when his father was vice-president under then-President Barack Obama

While the filing only identifies the Romanian businessman by his initials, GP, US media has identified him as Gabriel Popoviciu, who at the time was facing corruption charges in Romania.

In the filing, prosecutors said they plan to introduce evidence that Hunter Biden and an associate "received compensation from a foreign principal who was attempting to influence US policy and public opinion" and prompt the US "to investigate the Romanian investigation of GP".

The document also says that Biden and his associate "were concerned that lobbying work might cause political ramifications for the defendant's father" - Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
- and wanted to conceal the "true nature" of the arrangement.

In total, prosecutors believe that Biden and two associates split $3m in payments from Popoviciu.

Popoviciu was sentenced to seven years in a Romanian prison on real estate fraud charges in 2017. He denied any wrongdoing.

Republicans in the House of Representatives - who last year opened an impeachment inquiry into the Biden family's foreign business ties - had previously raised concerns about ties between Hunter Biden and Popoviciu.

Next Up - Summer COVID on the Rise!
[WaPo, via Dallas Morning News] A summer covid wave - and the accompanying fevers, coughs and general misery - continues to wash over the Americas and parts of Asia and Europe, including the Paris Olympics, offering the latest evidence that the coronavirus moves in ways distinct from other respiratory ailments.

The World Health Organization said this week that the virus is increasing in at least 84 countries despite perceptions that the pathogen is a remnant of the past. Disease trackers sounded alarms that diminished testing and low vaccination rates could provide fertile terrain for more dangerous viral variants to take hold.

At least 40 athletes have tested positive for the coronavirus and other respiratory illnesses, suggesting that the virus may not exhibit the same seasonal patterns as the common cold, flu and respiratory syncytial virus - widely known as RSV - which tend to strike during cold-weather months.
So, of the 40 respiratory illnesses, how many are only COVID? How many athletes? Context, context, context. The usual 'journalism'.
"The virus continues to confound me in terms of what it’s doing and how it’s bucking the trends of seasonal patterns of respiratory illness," said Scott Roberts, an infectious-disease physician at Yale School of Medicine.
His Yale profile says he is an assistant professor saddled with administrative duties.
Roberts suggests that a vaccine twice a year to address the surges might be an important step in minimizing summer spread.

#3  Colds and influenzas spread during the winter because in the higher latitudes that’s when people huddle together inside to keep warm. In the lower latitudes people go inside during the heat of the summer so they can enjoy the air conditioning. Hence the double hump seen back when we were graphing Covid-19 infections, and why reports about a nasty version of Covid going round now should not be surprising.

As for the poor Olympic athletes, among the many horror tales about the housing Paris provided is the fact that in the heat of a Paris summer they were not provided air conditioning — so many teams brought plug-in units. I imagine there’s lots of huddling together to cool off. With, naturally enough, the sharing of infections.

#4  Everyone I know who has flown on a plane recently comes home sick. The ones who get tested say they had covid but the infection clears in a week or so. The ones who don't get tested say they might have had covid but the infection clears in a week or so.

Before I retired, long before covid, my company would send me to different cities from time to time. I got sick from those airplanes on a regular basis. Instead of using fuel to pump fresh air into the cabins, the airlines would recycle the old air. Gross. Now I hear they run the air through some kind of ultraviolet light to kill germs but it doesn't seem to do any good. I'm not flying anywhere these days.

#5  Yeah Abu, almost every time I fly I come home with some sort of sinus infection. Luckily it clears up in a couple of days.

I do try to drive to most needed destinations now, unless there's a serious time constraint (or over an ocean). It may not be the cheapest way to travel, but it avoids the chaos and wierd and dodgy fellow travelers.

Mr. Wife used to get sick every time he went to a new country. Each had its own set of variants of Covid and other things. Until recently that was assumed to be a side effect of jet setting — though I assume it wasn’t much different travelling domestically.

Maduro Clamping Down
Totalitarian dictators gotta dictate — especially when they’re socialists.
[WashingtonPost] Since the July 28 presidential election, security forces have rounded up more than 2,000 people for demonstrating against Maduro or casting doubt on his claims that he won a third term despite strong evidence he lost the vote by a more than 2-to-1 margin.

The spree of detentions — urged on by Maduro himself — is unprecedented and puts Venezuela on pace to easily exceed those jailed during three previous crackdowns against Maduro’s opponents.

Those arrested include journalists, political leaders, campaign staffers and an attorney defending protesters. Others have had their Venezuelan passports annulled.

US federal judge again dismisses Mexico's lawsuit against gun manufacturers
[10News] A judge ruled that Mexico had not provided concrete evidence that any of six companies’ activities in Massachusetts were connected to suffering caused by guns in Mexico.

A U.S. federal judge in Massachusetts again dismissed a $10 billion Mexican government lawsuit against six U.S. gun manufacturers on Wednesday.

Mexico had argued the companies knew weapons were being sold to traffickers who smuggled them into Mexico and decided to cash in on that market.

Mexico's Foreign Relations Department said Wednesday the ruling would allow the lawsuit to proceed against a seventh manufacturer and a gun wholesaler.

Regarding the dismissal against the others, the department said "Mexico is analyzing its options, among them presenting an appeal."

The case has been a legal rollercoaster.

In early 2022, six companies — not including the seventh manufacturer — filed to dismiss Mexico’s claims based on the broad protection provided to gun manufacturers by a 2005 U.S. law, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, or PLCAA.

The law shields gun manufacturers from damages "resulting from the criminal or unlawful misuse" of a firearm. Later in 2022, the federal judge ruled to dismiss the case on those grounds.

Astronauts trapped in space by Boeing's faulty Starliner are given horrifying news about potential return to Earth
[DM] NASA astronauts stranded due to Boeing's faulty Starliner received horrifying news on Wednesday about their return mission to Earth.

Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have already been trapped on the International Space Station (ISS) for more than two months, may not come back to Earth until February 2025.

The US space agency revealed a contingency plan that would launch a two-person crew on SpaceX's Crew-9 mission in September, but still wouldn't bring the crew home until months later.

The announcement is another highly embarrassing blow for the embattled Boeing, which is dealing with a spate of issues plaguing its commercial jets.

The original version of Starliner flew on automatic. Had to, there was no crew. They left out the software for auto flight on this one, and can't install the software until CrewDragon arrives. Apparently the software comes on 3 1/2" floppies, and they need to send 200 lbs of "update", or some such.
So they can safely throw away the Starliner.

If I was building a space ship, some autonomous flight capability would be on the list of must-haves. Useful for cargo delivery and a just-in-case for getting the crew back home if they are incapacitated. Or in a situation like this.

Key Homeland agency CBP warns agents that Iran, proxies may try to cross border to attack United States
[JustTheNews] Dual warnings about Tehran, and Venezuelan gang accentuate consequences of Biden-Harris policies on border, Middle East

In a stark warning, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency is alerting all field offices that Iran or its proxies may try to transport “operatives, money or materials” across the southern or northern U.S. borders to conduct a terrorism attack against Americans, according to an agency memo obtained Wednesday by Just the News.

The memo from the CBP’s Office of Field Operations urged agency personnel to take a “heightened posture due to ongoing security threats” and suggested that recent, coordinated attack from Iran-backed Hezbollah on Israeli children playing in Golan Heights soccer fields raised the distinct threat of similar attacks against the West.

Israel’s assassination of a Hamas leader in Tehran was also cited in the alert.

“The seniority of the targets, the sensitive locations of the strikes, and their near simultaneity represents an escalation in tension in the region and raises concerns of additional reprisals from Iran and its regional proxies,” the memo states.

“With significant government of Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah influence and presence in the Western Hemisphere, OFO could see cross-border travel of operatives, money and or materials to support operations in the United States."

The memo also states that ports of entry should increase their enforcement posture by conducting high visibility operations and "hardening measures.”

And it urged CBP to work with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to “deter, prevent, preempt or respond to a terrorism attack against the United States.”

The memo also confirmed earlier intelligence that the Venezuelan-based gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) has moved extensive assets across the U.S. border to northeastern states and its members may try to fire weapons on law enforcement.

The memo more specifically that recent intelligence has indicated the TdA operating in Denver has been "given a green light to fire on or attack law enforcement.”

The warning from a key agency inside Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ department was one of the starkest reminders about the potential election-year consequences of Biden-Harris administration policies that loosened border security and unfroze billions of dollars to Iran, a U.S.-designated state sponsor of terrorism.

And the memo emerged during a period of dramatic terror threat developments. On Wednesday, authorities canceled a series of Taylor Swift concerts in Austria because of concerns about possible terrorism.

A day earlier, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn revealed the FBI had arrested a Pakistani man nearly a month ago on evidence he was working with Iran to carry out assassinations targeting several political figures, including former President Donald Trump.

And a major military base near Washington, D.C., Fort Belvoir in Virginia, suddenly closed its gates to non-authorized and public travel because of unspecified security threats.

In May, a nearby base, the Marine headquarters at Quantico, Va., also arrested two Jordanian men for trying to enter that installation without authorization.

Walid Phares, a national security expert who works with U.S. counterterrorism and has advised several presidential candidates, told Just the News he believes Iran may be launching terror attacks and making threats to force a better deal with a lame-duck President Joe Biden. He expressed concern that the administration did not reveal the arrest of the Trump assassination plot figure for several weeks after he was arrested July 12.

Iran’s leaders “want chaos, because in chaos, they could do whatever they want in the region, including attacking Israel and the Arabs,” Phares said. “So that's No. 1 It's an old thing. No. 2, and the most important for our public, is, why have you not informed the public? I mean, this is like the biggest question that Congress needs to start asking, in my view.

“The Iran deal is not just a deal over nuclear weapons. It's a deal over $150 billion and the regime, no doubt about it, is telling the people who are in charge now of that deal that if you start exposing anything we're doing or our agents are doing, we're off the deal."

Egypt asks its airlines to avoid Iran airspace for three hours on Thursday
[FoxNews] Egypt instructed all of its airlines to avoid Iranian airspace for three hours in the early morning on Thursday amid tension between Israel and Iran.

The NOTAM, a safety notice provided to pilots on Wednesday, said the instruction would be in effect from 0100 to 0400 GMT. It provided no further details as to why the notice was issued.

"All Egyptian carriers shall avoid overflying Tehran (Flight Information Region). No flight plan will be accepted overflying such territory," the notice said, referring to the three-hour period specified.

Egypt's civil aviation ministry later confirmed on Wednesday the notice was intended to reduce flight-safety risks in light of a notification it received from Iranian authorities.

"Military exercises will be conducted over Iranian airspace on Aug. 7 from 11:30 to 14:30 and from 4:30 to 7:30 on Aug. 8 Tehran time," the statement said.

#3  Orwell talk, June 19, 1941:
For this is the age of the totalitarian state, which does not and probably cannot allow the individual any freedom what ever. When one mentions totalitarianism one thinks immediately of Germany, Russia, Italy, but I think one must face the risk that this phenomenon is going to be world-wide. It is obvious that the period of free capitalism is coming to an end and that one country after another is adopting a centralized economy that one can call Socialism or state capitalism according as one prefers. With that the economic liberty of the individual, and to a great extent his liberty to do what he likes, to choose his own work, to move to and fro across the surface of the earth, comes to an end. Now, till recently the implications of this were not foreseen. It was never fully realized that the disappearance of economic liberty would have any effect on intellectual liberty. Socialism was usually thought of as a sort of moralized liberalism. The state would take charge of your economic life and set you free from the fear of poverty, unemployment and so forth, but it would have no need to interfere with your private intellectual life. Art could flourish just as it had done in the liberal-capitalist age, only a little more so, because the artist would not any longer be under economic compulsions." (long essay)

Hezbollah announces 2 turbans toes up in Israeli strikes, 400 ‘on road to Jerusalem’ since 10/7
[IsraelTimes] The Hezbollah terror group announces the death of a member killed “on the road to Jerusalem,” its term for operatives slain in Israeli strikes.

The operative is named as Muhammad Hussein Taleb, from Burj el-Shemali near Tyre.

His death brings the terror group’s toll since October to at least 399.

Hezbollah death toll in conflict passes 400 with latest Israeli strike

...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...

Hassan Fares Jeshi was killed "on the road to Jerusalem," Hezbollah says, using its term for operatives slain in Israeli strikes.

Earlier, the IDF announced that it had killed Jeshi in a dronezap in Jouaiyya. It said that he was a commander responsible for anti-tank guided missile fire on northern Israel.
More from the Times of Israel:
Separately, fighter jets struck buildings belonging to Hezbollah in Aitaroun, the IDF adds.

IDF confirms woman listed as missing since Oct. 7 was killed during attack
[IsraelTimes] The IDF has notified the family of Bilha Inon, 76, that she was killed during the Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
terror onslaught October 7. Inon was considered until now the only missing person from the attack.

Her house was burned down by Hamas gunnies who infiltrated the community of Netiv Ha’asara via paragliders amid their murderous onslaught against southern Israel. She was initially considered dead along with her husband, Yakov, but a lack of DNA evidence led the IDF to retract that conclusion.

It was not believed that she was kidnapped by Hamas, as no other kidnappings were reported in Netiv Ha’asara on October 7.

The IDF says that recently located findings at Inon’s home, and that "after a complex examination and investigation procedure," it is able to confirm that she was killed on October 7.

Her death was declared by a panel of health experts, IDF officials, police officials, and the chief rabbi.

#1  Think Kammie and Tampon Tim are a false flag Op.

On the face of it, it looks like the dumbest pick of the 3. The choices were:

Kelly - AZ Sen
Shapiro - PA Gov
Walz - MN Gov

Mark Kelly :
-Brings gravitas as former military and NASA astronaut
-Husband of Gabby Giffords (assassination attempt) yields the sympathy vote
-Experience

Josh Shapiro:
-Gov of critical state of PA
-IDF member in his youth (The dems hate this BTW)
-Lots of experience running a mid-sized state

Tim Walz:
-Old white guy
-Gov of MN - a reliably blue state
-Farther left than Kamala
-Fled his military duty when he learned he would be deployed
-Drunk Driving arrest
-Let Minneapolis burn for 4 days

Walz brings nothing to the ticket IF....IF....IF you want to win. And there's the rub.

Here's my analysis of why Walz is there. The Dem powers and Obama (but I repeat myself), WANT Kamala to lose at the convention so it becomes open and crown a candidate of their choosing.

They know that Kammie is a losing bet. They can't risk having a viable person in the 2nd chair and potentially steal delegates and outshine Kammie. A rusty nail would outshine Kammie.

Let's look at potential outcomes:
-Kammie and Timmy survive the convention and go on as the nominees. The likely scenario is that they will be trounced and their future political viability is shot. They needed a no-name pick and who cares if they're toast. They hate Kammie anyway.

-They survive the convention and somehow (we all know how) they get elected. Kammie can be controlled, and Timmy will do as he's told, and they have puppets to continue the Light-Bringers 4th term.

My pick as a likely scenario. The delegates revolt by saying - "we never voted for her on the top of the ticket and our guy quit and stumbled away."

This is the only rationale I see for choosing Walz. He will be unceremoniously dumped along with Kamala to usher in - dare I say it - Big Mike.

Portland, Oregon, faces another huge blow after two major employers announce huge job cuts
Portland used to have a reputation as being a very business-friendly city. That's how it got the businesses that are leaving or going under.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Portland, Oregon, faces another major blow after two major employers announced huge job cuts - as the progressive city struggles with crime and homelessness.

The city is facing the worst job losses of any major US metropolitan area, new data reveals.

Non-farm employment plummeted by 0.8 percent over the past year - the steepest decline among America's top 50 cities, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The tech sector, once considered Portland's economic powerhouse, is leading the exodus, as reported by wweek, with major companies like Intel and Nike announcing major job cuts.

Intel, the area's largest private employer, announced plans to slash a staggering 15 percent of its workforce - potentially affecting thousands of local jobs.

CEO Pat Gelsinger called the cuts "some of the most consequential changes in our company's history,’ as reported by Bizjournals.

Intel's stock cratered nearly 30 percent following the announcement, wiping out $35 billion in market value - its biggest single-day drop in over 40 years

Nike, another major company in Portland, has already cut its workforce by 5 percent in the past year.

Intel and Nike were named two of the worst performing companies with a 38 percent price drop from the end of 2023 to the market close just before the July 4th holiday.

Oregon Health & Science University, Payments company Block, Target, and video game maker Lost Boys Interactive have all followed suit with significant layoffs.

Jake Procino, a state economist for Oregon, emphasized the alarming trend in an email to Wweek.

"There have been a quite a few public notices and WARN notices showing layoffs, and that volume has been relatively high in the past year, both of which has likely contributed to the year-over-year job loss that we’ve seen in the Portland MSA," he said.

Still, Portland's unemployment rate remains at 4 percent, below its 10-year average.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
experts warn this figure may mask the true extent of the city's economic downfall, as tech workers flee the area.

In May 2023, Business owners began fleeing Portland in droves amid a pronounced rise in crime and homelessness.

Public data shows that since the pandemic, more than 2,600 downtown businesses have filed changes of address with the US Postal Service to leave their downtown ZIP codes.

Several big-name employers, such Umpqua Bank, have been among the mass exodus, carried out by owners who have taken issue with the rising crime levels and homelessness - and the city's failure to address it.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
To keep Iran in line, it needs the occasional 'slap in the face'
[YNet] The West has got to revise its thinking. It needs to begin threatening Iran militarily and even to take active measures in that direction, if it wants to change the course of Iran’s modus operandi - its progress toward nuclear capability and its sponsoring of terrorism worldwide.

Ever since the Islamic Revolution in 1979, Iran has been transformed. From a friend of Israel, cooperating in a variety of fields and aligned with the United States, Iran has set its sights on exporting its Islamic Revolution and on opening a front against the West. One example of this, is the establishing of the Revolutionary Guards, whose mission is to export the revolution to various countries and its well-known slogan: "The United States is the Great Satan and Israel is the Little Satan."

Concurrent with its support for terrorism, Iran also built a military nuclear program on the foundations of the civilian nuclear program that had been started during the pre-revolution years. While Iran’s first revolutionary leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini was in charge, the military nuclear program remained mothballed since he believed it was inconsistent with Islam. However, after he died in 1989, the plan was revived despite Iran’s claims that it was not working to achieve nuclear military capability. They insisted their program was purely focused on energy production.

...The Swords of Iron War has put Iran’s support of the various terrorist organizations in the Middle East (Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, Shiite militias in Iraq) under the spotlight and on its intention to destroy Israel and eliminate the perceived threat it poses. This goal of theirs was actively pursued in the Iranian attack against Israel on April 13, 2024, in which Iran launched hundreds of UAVs, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles toward Israel. At the same time Iran is continuing with its nuclear program, and the "snapback" deadline (the possibility of reinstating the sanctions against Iran, in the event it is decided that it was violating its part in the deal) approaching.

...For the Iranian regime, the paramount principle is to ensure its own survival. This is the basis for all other matters. The Iranian moves are all played out under a rationale of long-term regime continuity. All its moves are measured against this yardstick. For this reason, the West’s modus operandi should have one aim - to undermine the Iranian regime’s resiliency in such a way as to force it to alter its behavior, withdraw from its nuclear program and discontinue its funding of the Middle Eastern terrorist organizations, which are sowing chaos and evil indiscriminately. The West has got to turn the equation on its head and create an inverse relationship, rather than a direct relationship, between the nuclear program and the regime’s survival.

...For this to happen, the West must realize that the wars of the present day must be fought now and not sometime in the future. Iran and the Shiite Axis must be dealt with firmly, using all force necessary. In the absence of this, the Western powers will be faced with a very different reality - a nuclear Iran, terrorist organizations capable of doing Iran’s bidding, bereft of allies in the Middle East and threatened with Islamic extremism at home.
The "western powers" are too busy replacing their native populations - the ones who made them "powers" by 3rd world baboons hopeful. And promoting sexual aberrations.

Israeli right-wing NGOs, dual citizens sue Biden administration for sanctioning settlers
Lawfare: pushing back against anti-Israel/anti-Jewish discrimination..
[IsraelTimes] Plaintiffs allege executive order to target settler violence impinges on first-amendment rights of speech, religion; case will be heard by Trump-appointed judge in Texas
When they bring a knife, you bring a gun?
Right-wing, pro-Israel advocacy groups and dual US-Israeli citizens have filed a lawsuit challenging the Biden administration’s sanction regime against Israeli murderous Moslems in the West Bank.

The complaint filed in Amarillo, Texas, federal court on Tuesday says the executive order that US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences...
issued in February to begin applying financial and immigration sanctions violates the plaintiffs’ free-speech rights under the US Constitution and illegally interferes with the exercise of their religious beliefs.

The plaintiffs include Texans for Israel, a Christian nonprofit, Israeli nonprofit Regavim, the groups’ leaders, and two dual US-Israeli citizens who live in the West Bank and say they oppose the two-state solution favored by the Biden administration.

Biden’s executive order allows federal agencies to impose financial sanctions and visa restrictions against individuals who attack or intimidate Paleostinians or seize their property. The White House in issuing the order said it would "promote peace and security for Israelis and Paleostinians alike."

But the new lawsuit tries to argue that the order more broadly penalizes anyone who opposes the creation of an independent Paleostinian state.

"This is the first and only sanctions regime where an administration has deemed ordinary, peaceful activities and reasonable political positions supported by many Americans as inimical to ’peace’ and therefore sanctionable," the plaintiffs said in a statement.

The ten individuals and ten entities designated in five batches of sanctions levied through the executive order are all accused of involvement in acts of violence in the West Bank, not merely objecting to a two-state solution.

The White House and several federal agencies named as defendants in the lawsuit did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The executive order, issued in February, permits the government to sanction people or entities involved in actions that "threaten the peace, security, or stability of the West Bank," including acts of violence toward civilians, property destruction, or terrorism.

The order’s preamble says those actions "undermine the foreign policy objectives of the United States, including the viability of a two-state solution," but there is no further mention of the topic in the directive’s operative paragraphs.

The case was assigned to US District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, an appointee of Republican former President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
and one-time Christian legal activist whose court has become a favored destination for challenges to Biden administration policies.

In February, Kacsmaryk rejected the administration’s bid to dismiss a lawsuit by a Republican congressman and three others seeking to block US aid to the West Bank and Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
that they said was unlawfully funding the Paleostinian Authority.

The Biden administration has sanctioned several individuals, groups, and unauthorized settlements since issuing the executive order, including the wife of one of the plaintiffs in Tuesday’s lawsuit.

Britain
Operation Nimrod
Here is the history piece. All the rest is gun pr0n, which many of you will appreciate properly, so go read about it at the link, dear Reader.
[AmericanHandgunner] May 5, 1980 was a Monday. Six days prior, half a dozen terrorists representing the Democratic Revolutionary Front for the Liberation of Arabistan
… founded in 1979 as a splinter group of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Ahvaz (PFLA, part of the movement for Arab liberation of the Ahwaz/Ahvaz region of Iran. This lot were apparently Baathists, others among them are Arab Sunni-firsters, probably some are communist of one flavour or another…
had stormed the Iranian embassy at Prince’s Gate in South Kensington, London. Curiously, these six armed men were actually protesting the theocratic regime that had recently seized power in Iran. They were, geopolitically speaking, technically the Good Guys. However, after days of aggressive negotiations that saw the release of five of 26 hostages, tempers grew short. In a fit of anger, the terrorists shot and killed the Iranian cultural attaché, Abbas Lavasani. At that point, the Iron Lady, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, turned operational control of the situation over to the British 22nd Special Air Service.

They called the subsequent symphony of violence Operation Nimrod and it changed everything about modern counterterrorist operations. Where normally, the SAS operates in the shadows, this time, they took down the Iranian embassy in broad daylight before the accumulated television cameras of the world’s press. The building was five stories tall and contained 51 different rooms. Seventeen minutes after the go order, five of the six terrorists were dead, the sixth was in custody, and the entire building was secure. One hostage died during the assault and one SAS man was fairly badly burned. However, the cumulative result was legitimately paradigm-shifting.

In short order, every cop in the world wanted an HK MP-5 submachine gun in the trunk of his squad car and a set of black fatigues hanging in his closet. The otherworldly imagery of the assault burned into the world’s consciousness. The SAS had become the world’s premiere direct-action counterterrorist force.

Bomb planted under Haniyeh's bed ''was planted by two Iranians recruited by the Mossad from the Ansar al-Mahdi security unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Never say the New York Times got the story wrong!

The Iranians themselves realised this after the liquidation, when the guards were seen on security camera footage on the day of the liquidation moving stealthily in the hallway towards the room where Haniyeh planned to stay, opening the door with a key and entering the room.

Three minutes later the guards (who were offered a six-figure sum each as well as immediate relocation to a northern European country) were captured on camera calmly leaving the room, going down the stairs towards the main entrance of the building, leaving and then getting into a black car. The guard at the parking lot checkpoint recognised them and opened the gate without asking any questions. An hour later they were smuggled out of Iran

So all the arrests — or non-arrests of people aiding the authorities in their inquiries — will fail to catch the culprits? How humiliating for said authorities.
Reports have suggested that the device was placed in Haniyeh’s room weeks or months before the earth-shattering kaboom. This is wrong. Security cameras show it was placed on the day of the earth-shattering kaboom, at 4:23 pm - some nine hours before it was activated when Haniyeh entered his room. The explosion, which was set off remotely by a robot, took place after midnight, at exactly 01:37am local time.

To prevent possible detection, the Mossad planted a flat brick explosive, 3 inches wide by 6 inches long, that was fastened to the bottom of the bed. To minimise harming innocent civilians, they used a bomb known for its precision which targeted only Haniyeh’s room. As a result, only one specific area of the building was damaged (see the image on this page).

Haniyeh’s liquidation, which was decided on after October 7, necessitated a complicated set of arrangements from a network of Mossad spies dispersed throughout Tehran, including local Iranian collaborators who had been active in Iran long before the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
War. Over the past 20 years Israel has been gathering intelligence about Iran’s efforts to develop nuclear weapons. This intelligence, in addition to the recruitment of the two IRGC members enabled the success of the operation.

Following the decision to carry out Haniyeh’s liquidation, the Mossad began searching for a suitable opportunity to strike. It emerged when Haniyeh was invited to Tehran for the new Iranian president’s inauguration. The Mossad, with the assistance of intelligence unit 8200 (the IDF unit responsible for clandestine operations), intercepted phone calls between the organisers of the inauguration and the invited guests. When Haniyeh confirmed his arrival, the Mossad began executing the plan: eliminate Haniyeh in the guest house where he usually stayed during his visits to Tehran.

Mossad then sent its own agents to visit the area regularly to supply the operational logistics, map every street and alleyway, identify potential escape routes and check the building’s security measures. But the agents encountered difficulties when arriving in the area. The guest house was perched on a hill and surrounded by a forest of towering trees, which made it very difficult to observe the building clearly. But Israeli improvisation and creativity then kicked in. Five agents dressed themselves in green clothing and simply climbed the trees closest to the building while camouflaged by the green colour of the trees. Now the view was clear for them.
Up until now the Iranians were only paranoid about spy squirrels. This is an entirely new level of horror
Their role was to report as soon as Haniyeh arrived at the building, having memorised his car’s colour and license plate number. In the absence of a source inside the building who could inform them when Haniyeh had entered his room, another Mossad squad, also dressed in green, climbed into the branches of the trees and watched the building from an angle where the window of Haniyeh’s room was facing them.
*Boggle* What adjectives follow great big brass clanking ?
Their role was to notify the bomb operator as soon as the light went out in Haniyeh’s room.

At 01:20 all the invited guests arrived at the guesthouse. Haniyeh entered his room after exchanging goodbye hugs and handshakes, while his bodyguard stood outside his door to keep him safe. About 10 minutes later, the light was switched off, and a pastoral silence fell over the guest house area.

At that moment the bomb operator detonated a kaboom that shook the entire structure. Haniyeh was killed immediately. His bodyguard, Wasim Abu Shaaban, was critically injured and subsequently died after heavy bleeding. (When his identity was checked by the Mossad before the operation they realised that the bodyguard was also a wanted terrorist - a senior member of Hamas
..one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
’ military wing and one of the group of holy warriors who had infiltrated Israel through a tunnel in 2014 and murdered five IDF soldiers.)

Following the liquidation, Iranian security authorities raided the guesthouse compound, arresting 28 senior military officials, and headquarters personnel who were present. All their electronic gadgets were confiscated to search their communications. The Iranian agents scanned the entire facility inch by inch and analysed the security cameras frame by frame. When they discovered that members of the IRGC were involved, they were not surprisingly enraged. The next day, when they threatened to inflict serious punishment on Israel, this was as much to do with the humiliation as because of the death of a senior Hamas official they were hosting.

The Mossad had multiple opportunities to eliminate Haniyeh in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
. But Israel refrained from doing so because Qatar served as a vital negotiator between Hamas and Israel over the hostage crisis. Carrying out an liquidation on Qatari soil might embarrass Qatar and jeopardise any future peace accord between Israel and Qatar that had been under discussion before the Gaza war.
Gentlemen don’t blow up the guests of other gentlemen, donchaknow. But the Mad Mullahs are clearly not Our Kind of People.

Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway holds more U.S. Treasury bills than the Federal Reserve
[Quartz] Berkshire has $234.6 billion worth of T-bills

Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has $234.6 billion worth of short-term investments in U.S. Treasury bills, the massive conglomerate’s second-quarter earnings report Saturday showed.

With Berkshire buying up $229.5 billion in Treasury bills (also known as T-bills) and fixed maturity securities in the first six months of the year, it surpassed the Federal Reserve in its investment into the bills. The Fed reported last week that it holds $195.3 billion in the bills.

Buffett has always been a fan of T-bills. At the annual Berkshire conference in May, the 93-year-old investor called them “the safest investment there is.”

Treasury bills are short-term securities issued — and backed — by the U.S. government. They are issued in maturities ranging from four weeks to 52 weeks, at a minimum purchase amount of $100. The bills then increase in value to pay off their entire face value at maturity.

Returns on the bills aren’t typically as big as what investors see from more risky investments like stocks. But with the Fed keeping interest rates in the 5.25% to 5.5% range, returns on the bills have risen. As of Aug. 2, three-month bills have a 5.05% return rate; six-month bills are at 4.68%, and 12-month bills bring in 4.18%.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
25 years have passed since the invasion of Basayev's militants into Dagestan
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Today marks a quarter of a century since the attack of Basayev and Khattab's militants on Dagestan. A memorial rally and re-enactment of the events of 1999 took place in the Botlikh District.

As the "Caucasian Knot" reported, in 2019, Vladimir Putin signed a law granting militiamen from Dagestan who fought militants in 1999 the status of combat veterans, the right to monthly payments and material benefits. The list of applicants included about 28,000 people, but only 520 people received certificates, and most of those who actually fought were not included in their number, members of veterans' organizations said in December 2020

On August 7, 1999, more than 1,000 armed fighters led by Shamil Basayev  and Jordanian  Amir Khattab
... Shamil Salmanovich Basayev, also known by his kunya "Abu Idris" and Emir Abdullah Shamil Abu-Idris (1965-2006). Basayev was a Chechen warlord in the post-Soviet Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, which after his death became the Al Qaeda-linked Caucasus Emirate. In 2015 most of the hard boys changed their allegiance to the local Islamic State affiliate, Vilayat Kavkaz, whereupon a majority chose to escape the Russians hunting them by making hijra to the caliphate in Syria. Some of his projects were the 2004 Beslan school siege and the 2002 Moscow theater hostage crisis...
entered Dagestan from Chechnya. Fighting continued in the republic for more than a month. Only on September 15, 1999, the Minister of Defense announced that Dagestan had been completely liberated, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report " Militant Invasion of Dagestan (1999) ".

A rally dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the militant invasion was held in Botlikh today, the Botlikh District Administration reported on its Telegram channel.

"At the memorial […] they remember the tragic events of those days, their victims and heroes. […] The event is attended by the head of the district, Ruslan Gamzatov, Hero of Russia Dibirgadzhi Magomedov, militiamen, Afghans, SVO participants and local residents," the publication says.

Those who gathered for the memorial rally in Botlikh were shown a re-enactment of events that took place 25 years ago and were "reminded of the history of 1999," RIA Dagestan reports.

Let us recall that even decades later, investigators periodically report the detention of alleged participants in the militant attack on Dagestan. Thus, on November 2, 2022, security forces detained Stavropol residents Eduard Taushev and Temirali Zarakaev, who, according to investigators, participated in the attack. In April 2024, the case was transferred to court.

Cases of participation in the gangs of Basayev and Khattab are similar and often falsified, lawyer Narine Ayrapetyan told the "Caucasian Knot" earlier. "The witnesses are the same everywhere. Five witnesses are usually taken - three secret witnesses and two open ones," she said.

Ayrapetyan emphasized that  cases are also fabricated against innocent people. "When people did not participate, but under threat, including torture, other people are forced to testify against them. For example, one of my clients, who is serving a sentence in the Ulyanovsk region, told me that he is being pressured to testify about the events of 1999 against people he did not know before," the lawyer said.

Patriarch Kirill says churches are being targeted by Ukrainian Armed Forces near Kursk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Ukrainian Armed Forces are launching targeted strikes against churches and monasteries in the Kursk region. This statement was made by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on August 7 in an address in connection with the situation in the region, the document was posted on the website of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC).
Turnabout is fair play.
The Patriarch received the information about the complicated situation in the Kursk region, which arose in connection with the attempts to break through the state border of the Russian Federation by Ukrainian troops, and about the deaths of civilians under shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces with great mental pain and deep concern.

"It is especially bitter that there were targeted attacks on churches and monasteries of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Gornalsky Nikolaevsky Belogorsky Monastery was severely damaged by the shelling, and the brethren were forced to leave it," the Patriarch said.

The rector of the Russian Orthodox Church noted the courage and heroism of ordinary citizens who strive to help each other in difficult circumstances. The Patriarch expressed gratitude to the priests and monks who sheltered civilians, including children, women and the elderly, from shelling in the Holy Trinity Church of Sudzha and then organized their evacuation.

“I pray fervently for you, dear brothers and sisters!” added Patriarch Kirill.

Earlier, Regnum news agency reported that in Kursk Oblast, two churches were destroyed in the Goralsky St. Nicholas Monastery as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As the monastery's abbot, Hegumen Pitirim, specified, the Ukrainian Armed Forces deliberately targeted the churches.

As a result of the shelling, the monastery's main cathedral was destroyed and burned, and the fraternal and temple buildings were damaged. Towards evening, a fire broke out in the Pokrovsky Church, it burned out completely, leaving only the walls. The abbot noted that there were no casualties, and all people were in shelters.

As reported by the Defense Ministry on the morning of August 6, after a fire preparation, up to 300 Ukrainian army fighters, supported by 11 tanks and more than 20 armored vehicles, attacked the positions of the units covering the Russian state border near the villages of Nikolayevo-Daryino and Oleshnya in the Kursk region. Russian aviation struck concentrations of personnel and military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As a result, 16 units of armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were destroyed, including six tanks, two infantry fighting vehicles, four armored personnel carriers, three Kozak armored vehicles and an engineering vehicle for obstacle clearance.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces made a second attempt to break through in the evening of the same day. In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces launched a series of strikes on peaceful neighborhoods in populated areas of the Kursk region. The Ukrainian army deliberately attacked people who were trying to leave the border areas.

Acting Governor of Kursk Oblast Alexey Smirnov noted that Russian troops thwarted an attempt by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through the state border into Kursk Oblast in Sudzhansky and Korenevsky districts.

Kursk II: Russian news roundup for August 8th, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

MFA: Kyiv tried to sow panic with a barbaric attack on the Kursk region
[Regnum] The Kiev regime, with the barbaric attack of the Ukrainian army on the Kursk region, tried to sow panic among the residents of this region and show at least some semblance of activity against the backdrop of the constant failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the war zone. This is stated in a commentary by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“With their barbaric attack in the Kursk region, the Ukrobanderites tried to sow panic among the region’s residents and demonstrate at least some semblance of activity against the backdrop of the constant failures of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the conflict zone,” the press service of the Foreign Ministry quoted her as saying.

The diplomat emphasized that the Kyiv regime’s calculations in this direction did not come true, noting that this and other bloody crimes of Kyiv are being committed in the cynical silence of the West, which continues to support its puppets in Ukraine.

“All this only strengthens the feeling of impunity of Ukrainian neo-Nazis, who are confident that they will get away with any crime,” Zakharova clarified.

She added that Russia calls on the international community not to stand aside and to strongly condemn the criminal actions of the Kyiv regime.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on the morning of August 6, Ukrainian troops attempted to break through to the Kursk region, which was repelled by FSB border guards and Russian army troops. According to the Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian Armed Forces deployed 300 militants, 11 tanks, and more than 20 armored vehicles.

In the evening of the same day, the Ukrainian army attempted to break through to the Kursk region for the second time. Russian artillery and aviation carried out preemptive strikes on the military equipment of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sumy region, after which the saboteurs retreated.

On August 7, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under several articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation after the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on border settlements in the Kursk region - terrorist attack, murder, illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, encroachment on the lives of law enforcement officers, etc. The official representative of the department Svetlana Petrenko noted that as a result of the criminal actions of the Ukrainian troops, several dozen civilians, including children, and Russian military personnel were injured.

Earlier in the day, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on the country's regions to support the Kursk region amid attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Russian leader clarified that regional leaders have the ability to do more than ordinary citizens.

UN called the attack of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk region an escalation
The attack by Ukrainian troops on the Kursk region increases the risk of escalation. This was stated on August 7 by the deputy official representative of the Secretary General of the world organization Farhan Haq at a briefing.

"Incidents like these increase the risk of a worrying escalation of the crisis. We would like to see the situation de-escalated to the greatest extent possible," he said.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, Ukrainian armed forces made two attempts to break through the border with Russia in the Kursk region on August 6. In the morning, Russian positions were attacked by 300 Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters, who were supported by 11 tanks and more than 20 armored vehicles. Russian fighters thwarted the attempt to break through to the Kursk region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces made a second attempt to break through in the evening of the same day.

In addition, the Ukrainian Armed Forces carried out a series of strikes on peaceful neighborhoods in populated areas of the Kursk region. The Ukrainian army deliberately attacked people who were trying to leave the border areas.

Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin on August 7 that the operation would be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border. He specified that Kiev had used up to 1,000 fighters in the attack. The Ukrainian Armed Forces lost 315 soldiers and 54 armored vehicles, including seven tanks.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called on the international community to condemn Kiev's criminal attacks on Russian territory. The diplomat also called the attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region another terrorist act.

White House spokesman John Kirby said at a briefing on August 7 that the United States intends to seek clarification from the Kiev regime regarding the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack. He added that the US position on the use of American weapons on Russian territory "has not changed."

Gerasimov: Up to 1,000 Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers took part in the attack on Kursk Oblast
Kiev used up to 1,000 Ukrainian servicemen in the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Kursk region. This was reported on August 7 by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“At 5:30 a.m. on August 6, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine numbering up to one thousand people went on the offensive with the aim of capturing a section of territory in the Sudzhinsky district of the Kursk region,” he said.

Gerasimov specified that during the repelling of the attack by the Russian military, the enemy lost 315 fighters, of which at least 100 were killed and 215 wounded.

The Russian military also destroyed 54 units of armored vehicles, including seven tanks, the Chief of the General Staff added.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, Ukrainian militants attempted to break through to Kursk Oblast on the morning of August 6, but were repelled by FSB border guards and Russian army troops. In the evening of the same day, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to break through to Kursk Oblast for the second time, but retreated after preemptive strikes on military equipment in Sumy Oblast.

On August 7, the Russian President called the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attack on the Kursk region a large-scale provocation by the Kiev regime. The head of state emphasized that Ukrainian Armed Forces militants are firing from various types of weapons at civilian buildings, residential buildings, and ambulances.

Later that day, the Defense Ministry reported that the Russian army was continuing to destroy Ukrainian troops that were attempting to break through the state border in the Kursk region. The ministry specified that the Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters were not allowed to advance deep into Russian territory.

Government Corruption
Those Whistleblower Claims About TSA Surveillance and Tulsi Gabbard Just Took an Even More Sinister Turn
[Red State] Hmmmmm. Kamala's heavy hand?
Would the TSA have us believe that Tulsi Gabbard is a suspected domestic terrorist? Why? Well, it is as you might suspect:

According to (Executive Director of the Air Marshal National Council (AMNC) Sonya) LaBosco, Gabbard’s enrollment in Quiet Skies is likely politically motivated. Air Marshals were first assigned to Gabbard on Jul. 23, a day after she criticized Kamala Harris, Biden, and the National Security State in an interview with Laura Ingraham. FAMs were mobilized on Jul. 24 and assigned to their first flight with her on Jul. 25. Gabbard posted the interview on Twitter, as shared below.

As if that weren't twisted enough, now we learn that the TSA whistleblowers who came forward with their concerns about this development are facing retaliatory investigations of their own.

On Wednesday, Tristan Leavitt, president of Empower Oversight, shared his firm's follow-up letter to Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph Cuffari, alerting the IG to the potential retaliation and requesting that he ensure the whistleblowers are properly protected.

@EMPOWR_us has confirmed from whistleblowers that @TulsiGabbard was under Quiet Skies surveillance on not just one, or two, or even three flights... She has had Air Marshals there to monitor her on EIGHT FLIGHTS since her July 23 interview with @IngrahamAngle.

Furthermore, TSA is mobilizing a retaliatory investigation into who made these protected whistleblower disclosures. I wrote to @DHSOIG this morning asking him to ensure these whistleblowers are protected.

Leavitt's thread lays out the thrust of the correspondence directed to Cuffari. In sum, the letter, which may be viewed in full below, sets forth the following key points:

  • TSA deems the surveillance of Gabbard "Sensitive Security Information" (SSI) and has initiated an investigation into the "leak" of said information.

  • Protected whistleblower disclosures are not leaks, and the SSI designation does not trump the Whistleblower Protection Act.

  • This includes disclosures to media outlets - "The Whistleblower Protection Act protects from adverse personnel actions TSA employees who disclose information they reasonably believe constitutes a violation of any law, rule, or regulation; gross mismanagement; a gross waste of funds; an abuse of authority; or a substantial and specific danger to public health or safety—regardless of who they make their disclosure to, whether that be to your office, to Congress, to a professional association such as the Air Marshal National Council, or directly to the press."

As Leavitt also notes on Twitter/X, the Quiet Skies program has not even been shown to be effective at its purported aim.

The whole Quiet Skies program seems like a civil liberties nightmare anyway.

Over four years the OIG examined, the found Quiet Skies confirmed precisely zero passengers as aviation security threats. I can think of far better uses for the hundreds of thousands of dollars DHS puts into this. (Like, say, ensuring a major party's political nominee is protected from attempted assassination the day after an Iranian asset is arrested for plotting a murder-for-hire?)

So, not only has the TSA been wasting resources on an intrusive yet ineffective program and further deployed it against a high-profile political figure (and military reservist) the day after she voiced criticism of the Biden administration's involvement in Ukraine, it's apparently opened a retaliatory investigation into those who came forward with concerns over this action.

Army captures Boko Haram commanders, logistics suppliers in Borno
[THESUN.NG] The Nigerian Army said troops in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the North-East have captured two Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
commanders, Bana Yamode and Babagana Usman, and apprehended two suspected Boko Haram logistics suppliers, Mallam Mustapha Ismaila and Abdulmudalabi Haruna, in Borno State.

Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Yamode and Usman were captured after they infiltrated the Damasak Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State on Sunday, August 4.

Troops acting on credible intelligence regarding terrorists’ movements were said to have apprehended the suspects.

The Army said the suspects, who claimed to be visiting their families in the camp, had previously led attacks on troops in the area.

The troops also apprehended two suspected Boko Haram logistic suppliers, Mallam Mustapha Ismaila, 49, and Abdulmudalabi Haruna, 30, and rescued two minors during the operations, the Army said.

"Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
50 Boko Haram suspects and their families have surrendered to troops stationed in Bama, Gwoza, and Dikwa Local Government Areas. The surrendering came at the heels of upscaled operations against the terrorists.

"In another operation in Yobe State on 4 August 2024, three Boko Haram collaborators were arrested at Gubio Market in Gubio Local Government Area. During preliminary investigation, the suspects admitted to being involved in kidnapping and armed robbery activities in the general area. Items recovered from the suspects include two cycle of violences and several mobile phones.

"In Kogi State, troops arrested a notorious kidnapping kingpin in Egbe Community of Yagba Local Government Area. The suspect, Mohammed Bello, who belonged to a seven-man syndicate specialized in kidnapping unsuspecting citizens, has been on the security agencies’ wanted criminals’ watchlist.

Taylor Swift concerts canceled after ISIS plot narrowly foiled by police
[NYPOST] Three Taylor Swift shows have been canceled on the European leg of her Eras tour after police narrowly thwarted an ISIS plot to attack her concerts in Vienna — and authorities warned there could be other threats.

Swift’s sold-out Vienna shows – slated for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday – were called off after the terror scare, her Austrian show promoter Barracuda announced.

“With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” the promoter said in a post on Instagram.

Two suspects — a 19-year-old living in his parents’ house near Vienna, along with another man — were arrested Wednesday after police raided the home, according to the Austrian outlet Kronen Zeitung.

A bomb squad found various chemicals and substances potentially being used to make explosives, and evacuated the home.

The pair were allegedly targeting Swift’s concerts at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium, where she is scheduled to play Thursday through Saturday night to sold-out crowds, according to Kronen Zeitung.

“The suspects were focused on the Taylor Swift concerts. We discovered that he was taking action to prepare for the attack,” said Austrian Director General for Public Safety Franz Ruf.

“A clear threat has been averted,” he said, adding that authorities had not yet declared the concerts entirely safe and were still investigating other accomplices, according to Kronen Zeitung.

The 19-year-old suspect is an
(imported?)
Austrian national, and is believed to have pledged allegiance to the Islamic terror group in July.

He and the other suspect are believed to have become radicalized online.

Security plans have been increased at the concerts.

IDF destroys Hamas arms production plant, launchers found in humanitarian areas
[IsraelTimes] South Gaza rocket launchers used in recent far-reaching barrage on Israel; remaining Beit Hanoun residents told to evacuate as army set to operate in area used in Tuesday strike

Fighter jets struck rocket launchers located near aid warehouses in southern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
and a weapons manufacturing plant that was embedded within an Israeli-designated humanitarian zone in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah, the Israel Defense Force said Wednesday.

The Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
launchers had been used for recent rocket attacks on southern Israel, the army said.

Also on Wednesday, the army called on Paleostinians in northern Gaza’s Beit Hanoun to head to "shelters in the center of Gaza City." Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language front man, said the army was preparing to "forcefully and immediately operate" against terror groups in the area after missiles were fired from there at Sderot and Ashkelon on Tuesday.

The IDF has carried out numerous small raids in Beit Hanoun since dismantling the local Hamas battalion there during the initial months of the ground offensive. Not many civilians are thought to remain there. In all of northern Gaza, fewer than 200,000 Paleostinians remain, according to recent IDF assessments.

Dozens of rockets were fired over the past week from southern Gaza, mostly at Israeli border communities, but several long-range attacks also targeted the Gan Yavne area near Ashdod and towns near Kiryat Malachi.

According to the IDF, those rockets were fired from launchers belonging to Hamas that were placed next to two humanitarian aid distribution warehouses, including one belonging to UNRWA, the United Nations
...an organization conceived in the belief that we're just one big happy world, with the sort of results you'd expect from such nonsense...
aid agency for Paleostinian refugees.

The launchers were struck and destroyed, and the IDF said it had identified secondary explosions following the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
, indicating that additional weapons were stored there.

"The Hamas terrorist organization regularly violates international law, while systematically exploiting civilian buildings and the civilian population as human shields for terror activity against the State of Israel," the IDF said.

"Alongside this, the IDF, through COGAT, will continue to work in cooperation with the international aid organizations in the Gaza Strip," it added.

Dozens more airstrikes were carried out in Gaza over the past day, targeting buildings used by terror groups and cells of operatives, according to the military.

A weapons manufacturing plant was destroyed in an airstrike Tuesday, the IDF said. According to the army, the plant belonged to Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
and was located within the Israeli-designated humanitarian zone in Deir el-Balah, in the Gaza Strip’s center.

The IDF said it took "many steps" to minimize damage to civilians, including the use of aerial surveillance, munitions "adapted to the type of strike," and other intelligence.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Council of Boskone, Helmuth ordered the entire 614th quadrant searched. The Green Lensman must be found!...
troops with the 162nd Division killed several button men and destroyed sites belonging to terror groups amid operations in Rafah over the past day, the IDF said.

In the Netzarim Corridor in central Gaza, reservists with the 252nd Division killed several more button men in festivities and by calling in airstrikes, the IDF added.

Without ruling on the merits, US District Judge Richard Stearns says the plaintiffs plausibly allege that Harvard’s response to on-campus incidents is inadequate, and that "the facts as pled show that Harvard failed its Jewish students."

-Short Attention Span Theater-
FBI searching Delmar home of ex-UN weapons inspector Ritter
[WNYT] HT AOSHQ. 48 Hr Rule?
Definitely.
The FBI is searching the Delmar home of ex-UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter in connection with a federal investigation.
Any connection to the feds pulling his passport and pulling him off the airplane when he was headed to speak at a conference in Russia in June?
A NewsChannel 13 photographer captured video of agents searching and taking pictures of both cars at the property on Dover Drive.

Agency spokeswoman Sarah Ruane confirmed that they were searching the home, but would not provide details on the investigation — per standard policy.

Ritter was the chief weapons inspector in Iraq. He was found guilty in 2011 of engaging in a sexually explicit web chat with a person in Pennsylvania who was pretending to a be a 15-year-old girl, according to Reuters. Ritter was actually corresponding with a detective for the Barrett Township Police Department.
Fox News mentions that the raid came a day after Ritter posted a photo of himself with independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but surely the FBI wouldn’t be so blatant as to go after him for that.
The Times Union adds:
After the agents and officers drove away, Ritter emerged from the home and briefly spoke with news hounds. Dressed in shorts and a T-shirt with an image of the character Inigo Montoya from the 1987 fairy tale comedy "Princess Bride" on it, Ritter said the Sherlocks were there to execute a search warrant "related to concerns apparently the U.S. government has about violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act." That federal law requires individuals and entities that represent foreign interests in the United States to register with the Department of Justice and disclose their activities.
*cough* Hunter Biden *cough*
Ritter said the search warrant allowed agents to look for electronic equipment in his home. "They were clearly interested in communications that I’ve had with people related to the work that I do," Ritter said. "That’s all I can say about it. It’s up to them to review it."

Ritter maintains an active online presence, writing articles critical of U.S. foreign policy toward Russia and appearing on podcasts friendly to his views.

He said he has nothing to hide and that he cooperated with Sherlocks.

"There’s no doubt that I’m being targeted because of statements I’ve made about U.S. policy in Ukraine. I’m being targeted because I have made an effort to try and improve relations between the United States and Russia to bring about arms control to bring about peace," Ritter said.

He said he has no ill will toward the agents who carried out the search but that "I do have complaints against the personnel who caused this to happen. This has a chilling effect on free speech, the idea that you have a free speech right in America but when you execute in a manner that the U.S. takes exception to and they launch a search warrant, that’s an intimidation factor.

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
war entered its 11th month on Wednesday.

The naming of Sinwar to lead the Paleostinian bad boy group came as Israel braced for potential Iranian retaliation over the killing of his predecessor Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
last week in Tehran.

Speaking at a military base on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was "determined" to defend itself.

"We are prepared both defensively and offensively," he told new recruits.

Army chief, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi vowed to "find him (Sinwar), attack him" and force Hamas to find another leader.

Sinwar — Hamas’s leader in Gaza since 2017 — has not been seen since the October 7 attack, which was the deadliest in Israel’s history.

A senior Hamas official told AFP that the selection of Sinwar sent a message that the organization "continues its path of resistance".

Hamas’s Lebanese ally Hezbollah congratulated Sinwar and said the appointment affirms "the enemy... has failed to achieve its objectives" by killing Hamas leaders and officials.

Analysts believe Sinwar has been both more reluctant to agree to a Gaza ceasefire and closer to Tehran than Haniyeh, who lived in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
"If a ceasefire deal seemed unlikely upon Haniyeh’s death, it is even less likely under Sinwar," according to Rita Katz, executive director of the SITE Intelligence Group.
No point in Israel negotiating then, until he has come to understand that he has no choice but surrender.
"The group will only lean further into its hardline bad boy strategy of recent years," she added.

Breakthrough into Russia. The situation in Kursk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] The probable raid of Ukrainian forces into the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, which Ukraine has not officially commented on, could lead to the creation of a buffer zone on Russian territory.

The latest escalation on the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation initially looked like a routine attempt by a sabotage and reconnaissance group to break through, as happened last year. However, everything turned out to be much more serious. Ukraine has not officially commented on the events in the Kursk region, but foreign media and independent analysts are talking about the development of an offensive by regular units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

ADVANCING INTO RUSSIA
Russian pro-war bloggers report that Ukrainian Armed Forces units have established control over the settlements of Obukhovka, Pokrovskoe, Tolsty Lug and Lyubimovka in the Kursk region. “To the southeast, the enemy has captured the Sudzha gas measuring station,” the Rybar Telegram channel writes.

There is no independent confirmation of this information yet. The Russian Ministry of Defense, like Ukraine, has not commented on the alleged seizure of populated areas.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the military actions in the border areas of the Kursk region a provocation. Putin also ordered the resettlement of residents of the Kursk region.

Reuters wrote that on August 6, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu announced the alleged seizure of 420 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory since June 14. “Ukraine struck back on August 6. Fighting continued overnight Wednesday, August 7, as Ukrainian forces advanced northwest from the border town of Sudzha, 530 kilometers southwest of Moscow,” the agency wrote.

Reuters recalled that Sudzha is the last operating transit point for the export of Russian gas from Russia to Europe via Ukraine. And just 60 km northeast of Sudzha is the Russian Kursk Nuclear Power Plant.

But the head of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov, promised Putin to reach the state border of Russia after the successful breakthrough of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. During an emergency meeting, this military chief stated that the Russians allegedly managed to stop the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces deep into Russian territory.

MASS SURRENDER
OSINT analysts on Wednesday, August 7, showed a photo that probably shows Russian soldiers being led into Ukrainian territory near the Sudzha checkpoint in the Kursk region, Radio Liberty's Russian service reports.

As journalists note, the photo shows Russian soldiers guarding the checkpoint.

According to journalists, the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly captured "several dozen" soldiers. CIT investigators believe that the geolocated photos may show Russian conscripts.

The Ukrainian state project I Want to Find stated that they know of "a great many captured servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces" in the Kursk region. They claim that this concerns both conscripts and contract soldiers.

THE WORLD'S REACTION
White House National Security Advisor John Kirby noted that the United States has not yet received information from Ukrainian officials about events in the Kursk region.

Kirby also noted that the United States has not changed its decision regarding allowing Ukraine to use American weapons to combat Russian aggression on its borders.

Kirby also said that Ukrainian operations should be commented on by the Ukrainian side, and the US task is to provide assistance to Ukraine: “Let the Ukrainians talk about their operations, one way or another, that’s the most appropriate… We’ll focus on making sure they have what they need to protect themselves… I’ll add that we’ll reach out to our Ukrainian colleagues to have a little bit more understanding.”

“A surprise offensive by Ukrainian forces in a border area of the Kursk region appears to indicate that Kyiv is trying to turn the tide with Moscow. But the move, which has not been officially acknowledged by Ukrainian leaders, has also drawn criticism from analysts who have questioned the wisdom of deploying already overstretched Ukrainian forces on Russian soil,” the Financial Times writes.

The Guardian notes that early reports from the Kursk region and social media data "suggest that the Ukrainian attack has been significant, although it is unclear how long it can be sustained."

The Washington Post emphasizes that if preliminary information about the scale of the cross-border raid in the Kursk region is confirmed, it “could draw Russian reserves into the area, weakening Moscow’s offensive operations in several parts of Ukraine’s Donetsk region, where Russian forces have stepped up attacks to make the most of the summer fighting season.”

At the same time, it could mean that Ukraine's already stretched and undermanned forces will now have to further expand their line of defense, which already stretches more than 1,000 kilometers.

Two US naval destroyers hit by Yemeni drone and missile strikes, Houthis claim
[HodhodYemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
News] Yemeni armed forces have carried out three military operations against a container ship and two US destroyers in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, in support of the oppressed Paleostinian people and its fighters and in response to the American-British aggression against the country,

"By the grace of Allah, the missile force, the drone force, and the naval forces of the Yemeni Armed Forces conducted a joint military operation targeting the ship "Contship Ono" in the Red Sea with a number of ballistic missiles and drones. The strike was accurate, by the grace of Allah," Yemen’s military front man Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e said in a statement this evening.

Brigadier General Yahya Sare’e confirmed that the targeting of the ship came due to its owner’s violation of the decision to ban entry to the ports of occupied Paleostine.

Sare’e added, "The drone force executed a specialized military operation targeting the American destroyer "Cole" in the Gulf of Aden with a number of drones. The operation successfully achieved its objective, by the grace of Allah. The naval forces executed a qualitative military operation targeting the American destroyer "Lassen" with a number of ballistic missiles."

The targeting of the two American destroyers occurred while they were crossing the Yemeni Armed Forces’ area of operations towards the northern Red Sea, as part of the American military protection provided to the Israeli enemy, he explained.

He noted that the results of the operations included the failure of the destroyers to completely intercept the missiles and drones, with several drones and missiles successfully achieving their objectives, by the grace of Allah.

"The operations of the Yemeni Armed Forces in the battle of Promised Conquest and Sacred Jihad will continue until the aggression stops and the siege on the Paleostinian people in Gazoo

IDF says gunman shot dead by troops while attempting attack near Jordan Valley settlement Tuesday
[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian gunman who attempted to carry out a shooting attack near the West Bank settlement of Beka’ot in the Jordan Valley was rubbed out by troops, the military says.

According to the IDF, troops of the 636th Combat Intelligence Collection Unit stationed in the area ambushed the armed suspect and killed him.

The troops had been ready to thwart the attack following previous shootings in the area.

A second suspect managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
in a car, according to a military source.

No soldiers were hurt in the incident.

IDF: Bombs found by W. Bank shooting site, attack was likely to lure troops to blast

[IsraelTimes] The IDF says troops located four bombs planted near the site of a shooting attack in the West Bank, which were apparently intended to be used against forces chasing after the button men.

On Monday, Paleostinian button men had shot up the settlement of Beka’ot in the Jordan Valley, before fleeing the scene.

The military says it assessed that the button men tried to lure the soldiers into a trap on a side road in the area, in the direction where they fled.

The IDF then stationed soldiers in the area, and last night, ambushed and killed a gunman who returned to the scene in an attempt to carry out another attack. A second suspect managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
in a car.

Following searches earlier today in the area, the IDF says it located four bombs and electronic equipment that would have been used to detonate them.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: August 7, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title
.
[Korrespondent] 22:43 A state of emergency has been declared in Kursk Oblast, said the head of the region, Alexey Smirnov. He noted that the "complicated operational situation" remains in the border areas of the region. The Russian Ministry of Health reports that 31 people, including six children, were injured as a result of shelling in Kursk Oblast.

21:49 The latest escalation on the Ukrainian-Russian border in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation initially looked like a routine attempt by a sabotage and reconnaissance group to break through, as happened last year. However, everything turned out to be much more serious. Ukraine has not officially commented on the events in the Kursk region, but foreign media and independent analysts are talking about the development of an offensive by regular units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. For more details, see the article Breakthrough Deep into Russia .

21:25 State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the US is "in contact with Ukraine" regarding the situation in the Kursk region. He also stressed that Ukraine itself is making the decision on how to conduct its operations. Miller added that Kiev has not warned Washington about any actions on Russian territory.

20:17 European Commission spokesman Peter Stano, commenting on the events in the Kursk region, stated that Ukraine, in accordance with international law, "has the legal right to defend itself, including by striking the aggressor on its territory."

20:10 During the day, Russians attacked Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region with artillery and kamikaze drones, as well as the Pokrovsk and Mirovsk communities - two people were wounded, said the head of the OVA, Serhiy Lysak.

19:39 The Russians have transferred the Pantsir-S1 air defense system to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, the publication Important Stories reports with reference to the station’s employees .

19:18 Washington will contact Kiev to "understand a little better" the situation in the Kursk region, said White House National Security Advisor John Kirby. At the same time, he emphasized that the US has not changed its policy regarding strikes on Russian territory: Ukraine can only strike with American weapons at the border area, from where Russia attacks, in particular, the Kharkiv region.

18:34 More than 95% of Ukrainian soldiers were tortured in Russian captivity, while in Ukraine prison camps comply with humanitarian law, said the head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, Daniel Bell. "Prisoners are tortured during the first interrogation. They are beaten with metal rods and sticks, stripped naked, harshly beaten with electric shocks. It is terrible. Certainly, this is the worst thing I have seen in my 20-year career visiting prisoners on behalf of the UN. This happened to more than 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war. This amounts to a war crime," she stressed.

According to Bell, information about the captivity of Ukrainian prisoners of war is most often collected during conversations after their return, while the monitoring mission has direct access to Russian prisoners of war and can assess the place of detention. "The Ukrainian authorities provide us with access to camps and temporary prisons for prisoners of war. In the first days there were some problems, but over the past year and a half we have observed conditions of detention that comply with the norms of humanitarian law of war," the head of the monitoring mission added.

18:05 Mandatory evacuation is underway in Sumy Oblast from 23 populated areas, said Volodymyr Artyukh, head of the OVA. According to him, we are talking about approximately 6,000 people, including 425 children. Artyukh noted that the situation in the region is quite tense, an air raid alarm has lasted for more than a day. "The many explosions that residents of Sumy and the region are hearing today are the work of our air defense, effective. There has never been such cover in Sumy Oblast," he added.

17:29 Putin gathered Belousov, Shoigu, Bortnikov and Gerasimov to discuss the situation in Kursk Oblast. Gerasimov stated that the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces deep into Russian territory has been stopped, "the operation in Kursk Oblast will be completed by defeating the enemy and reaching the state border."

16:37 Russian military publics write that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have captured the Sudzha gas metering station in the Kursk region, which is located near the border. Now it is the only transit point for gas from Russia to the European Union via Ukraine.

16:15 Putin stated regarding the events in the Kursk region that Ukraine has undertaken "another large-scale provocation, conducting indiscriminate shooting."

15:26 The United States has warned Turkey of consequences if Ankara does not stop exporting American equipment to Russia that could be used for military purposes, the Financial Times writes. The publication notes that since 2022, Turkey has increased trade with Russia, despite the sanctions imposed on Moscow. The United States is particularly concerned that Turkey has become a key hub through which Western-made electronics, including processors, memory cards and amplifiers, enter Russia, and are then found in Russian missiles and drones.

14:41 The cause of death of Ukrainian prisoner of war Alexander Ishchenko, who served as a driver in the Azov regiment and recently died in a pretrial detention center in Rostov-on-Don, was a closed blunt chest injury due to "contact with a blunt object," as well as shock and multiple rib fractures, said Deputy Commander of the Azov Brigade Svyatoslav Palamar, citing the results of a forensic medical examination and a certificate of Ishchenko's cause of death.

13:59 On Tuesday, August 6, soldiers from the SBU Special Operations Center "A" carried out a unique operation - they shot down a Russian Mi-28 helicopter using an FPV drone over the Kursk region, Ukrainian media write, citing sources. The video shows that the SBU drone hits the rear propeller of the Russian machine:

13:28 Budanov
every time I see his name I read it as our own badanov…
predicts a certain decline in the offensive operations of the Russian Federation: "In one and a half to two months, the main pressure should end, because the offensive has already dragged on. The practice of a ten-year war shows that neither side can maintain its offensive potential for more than two months." At the same time, the head of the GUR added that after a short lull, there will be new attempts by the enemy to attack.

Budanov also stated that a rebellion in the Russian Federation like Prigozhin's rebellion requires a local leader, and one of them is currently in Ukraine: "If we talk about conditional rebellions of ethnic groups, a local leader is needed for this. There is a good leader, he is with us, but is gaining strength. Then we can talk about something."

12:45 The Russian Defense Ministry reported that fighting in the border areas of the Kursk region continued all night, "the enemy's advancement deep into Russian territory was not allowed."

12:26 Russian publics write that there were 20 Russians on board the Russian National Guard Mi-8 helicopter destroyed near Donetsk on July 31, all of them died. Forbes reported at the time that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had probably managed to shoot down a Russian helicopter in the air for the first time using a drone.

11:54 Zelensky signed laws extending martial law and mobilization for 90 days - until November 9.

11:28 In the Kyiv region, during a night drone attack, one person was injured as a result of falling debris, reported the head of the OVA Ruslan Kravchenko. In two communities of the region, 22 private houses were damaged.

10:46 The Russian Ministry of Health stated that 24 people, including six children, were wounded and injured as a result of shelling in the Kursk region. The current day is characterized by an increase in the activity of enemy aircraft near the border areas of the Sumy region - by this time, the enemy has already dropped about thirty guided air bombs. He visited, in particular, the districts of Bilovodiv, Kyyanytsia, Zhuravka and a number of other villages and towns.

Fifth Column
New York City Antifa 'journalist' arrested over antisemitic attacks
[PM] Now, if they would only actually prosecute this POS
I'm sure Alvin Bragg will get right on it.
A second suspect has been arrested in connection with a string of vandalism targetting the homes of Jewish members of the Brooklyn Museum’s board of directors in June. Samuel Seligson, 32, of Brooklyn, turned himself in to the police on Tuesday.
He is one of those independent photojournalist/videographers who mostly “report” on Antifa activities. No doubt he’s been working for years on a terribly serious documentary about a terribly serious subject in his limited free time.
A law enforcement official familiar with the case told the Associated Press that Seligson was accused of traveling in a car with the vandals and going with them onto private property. Seligson has been charged with two counts of criminal mischief with a felony hate crime advancement.

According to amNew York Metro, Seligson turned himself in at the 7th Precinct station at around 7:30 am. Police sources told the outlet that Seligson was allegedly the lookout for the vandals.

An attorney for Seligson, Leena Widdi, said that the NYPD raided her client’s apartment twice in one week leading up to him turning himself in, and said the use of the hate crime statute against a journalist was an "appalling" overreach, AP reported.

"Samuel is being charged for alleged behavior that is protected by the First amendment and consistent with his job as a credentialed member of the press," Widdi told AP. "What is even more concerning, however, is that this member of the press is being charged with a hate crime."

Sources familiar with the investigation told amNew York that Seligson allegedly did not have any camera equipment on him during the incidents. Seligson is an Antifa "journalist" who uses the alias "Thizzl" on social media.
The Times of Israel adds:
Seligson, who is Jewish, is a fixture at New York City protests and has licensed and sold footage to mainstream outlets, including Reuters and ABC News.

Seligson has been arraigned in Brooklyn on eight counts of criminal mischief, four of which are classified as a hate crime, and has been granted supervised release.

It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. fire in the area.

Five soldiers were maimed by the Hamas anti-tank fire this morning, including two at death's door.

The IDF says it worked to kill the terror operatives behind the attack.

"Terror activity in humanitarian areas and areas where the population is concentrated harms humanitarian coordination and the distribution of aid," the IDF says.

It says that deliveries along the route have been halted temporarily, "as the area has become an active combat zone."

The military adds that the Kerem Shalom Crossing, and other entry points to the Strip, including the Netzarim Corridor and two crossings in the north, remain open as usual.

NY county outlaws masks at protests in response to anti-Israel intimidation
[IsraelTimes] Nassau law, with medical, religious exceptions, is backed by 12 Republicans, legislature’s 7 Democrats abstain; state’s Civil Liberties Union says law violates free speech.

New York’s suburban Nassau County has passed a bill to ban the wearing of masks after an incident in the state in which anti-Israel protesters wearing masks to hide their identity threatened Zionists on the subway.

The mask ban would cover any sort of public protest, but politicians in the Republican-controlled county say the bill aims to prevent protesters who engage in alleged violence and antisemitism from hiding their identity and avoiding accountability. Civil rights advocates saw the step as an infringement on free speech rights.

The bill was approved late on Monday, with all 12 Republicans in the county legislature voting in favor while the seven Democrats
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
abstained. It makes wearing a facial covering to hide identity in public a misdemeanor that can be punished with up to one year in prison and a $1,000 penalty. The bill has exemptions for medical reasons and for "religious and cultural purposes."

"Unless someone has a medical condition or a religious imperative, people should not be allowed to cover their face in a manner that hides their identity when in public," Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, a Republican, said about the bill that he is expected to sign.

The New York Civil Liberties Union said the bill was an attack on free speech.

"Masks protect people who express political opinions that are unpopular. Making anonymous protest illegal chills political action and is ripe for selective enforcement," Susan Gottehrer, the Nassau County regional director of NYCLU, said.

A mask ban proposal gained traction in June after masked protesters in a subway car chanted "Raise your hand if you’re a Zionist." That same evening protesters, many of them masked, demonstrated outside an exhibit commemorating the Nova music festival massacre in a rally widely condemned as antisemitic.

The proposal earned the endorsement of New York City Mayor Eric Adams
...Hizonner da Mare of Noo Yawk. As a Manchurian candidate, Hizonner was all in favor of law and order and that kind of stuff. Once in office, a bunch of his friends found cushy jobs with the city, the windows kept getting broken, and Soros-funded DA Alvin Bragg remained right where he was. Most people comfort themselves with the thought that he's not Bill di Blasio but that's pretty small comfort with kids who actually go to school getting bumped off while standing in front of them. But he's a Dem, so the rubes will vote for him next election too, so he's what they deserve...
and New York State Governor Kathy Hochul, both Democrats. It also gained the support of the Anti-Defamation League and the NAACP New York State Conference.

At a joint presser with the antisemitism watchdog on June 29, Hazel Dukes the president of the Black advocacy group NAACP’s New York State Conference, cited the white hoods of the racist Ku Klux Klan in her endorsement of a mask ban.

#1  Alabama outlawed masks statewide for protests and certain parades back in the 60's to combat the KKK. In 1983 a person in Birmingham was arrested for wearing a Nixon mask during a music festival. A bit extreme but the law is the law.

Promising Israeli breakthrough research boosts rectal cancer cure rates
[Ynet] Preliminary findings from a study at the Davidoff Center at Rabin Medical Center suggest a novel treatment may eradicate rectal cancer in 65% of patients and reduce the need for surgery.

Led by Prof. Baruch Brenner, head of the Oncology Department and the Gastrointestinal Oncology Unit, the study presents a potential new direction in cancer treatment. "These results suggest a promising new direction," said Prof. Brenner.

Rectal cancer, accounting for about 25% of colorectal cancer cases, is often diagnosed at an advanced stage, requiring complex treatment. Traditional treatment for localized rectal cancer typically involves surgery, which can significantly impact a patient's quality of life, sometimes necessitating the removal of the anus. The new approach combines immunotherapy with chemoradiotherapy, potentially eliminating the need for surgery in many cases.

Conducted with a team of specialists at Rabin Medical Center, the study found that preoperative immunotherapy and chemoradiotherapy substantially improve the likelihood of curing rectal cancer and reducing surgical necessity.

Preliminary results involving 20 out of 29 patients were presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Gastrointestinal Tumors Conference in Munich. The combined treatment eradicated tumors in 65% of patients and prevented surgery for most.
