The 2025 Caterpillar Pickup Is Cool, But May Be Dead On Arrival
[Torque News] On paper, the Caterpillar Pickup checks all the boxes but one big one. On the positive side, it is an automotive marvel. It is really good looking and has a far more classic pickup truck appearance than the Tesla Cybertruck monstrosity. It is designed for work but looks really nice. It has impressive ground clearance, built-in step rail, a really nice functional truck bed with multiple 120-volt plugs, an engineering wonder of a tail-gate that splits horizontally, decent (for a truck) aerodynamics, an integrated hidden winch, a huge cab, and some interesting power options that include a 500 HP Diesel with 1,000 lb. of Torque, a hybrid version with 450 HP and 600 lb. of Torque with an optimal 40-mile electric range, and an electric version with 600 HP and 850 lb. of torque (available at 0 RPMs) and a up to 300 miles of range.

Other features include Caterpillar’s sophisticated thermal management system assuring the truck never overheats, exhaust braking typically not something you get on a pickup truck, class-leading gas efficiency for the diesel and gas engine options, a heads-up display for the instruments, an impressively nice interior, Generative AI voice command system with natural language processing (you don’t have to learn the commands), 360-degree cameras, load adaptive control that automatically adjusts the suspension depending on load, an advanced level 2+ self-driving similar to Tesla, an automatic crash detection and response system which will work even if you don’t have cell phone service (satellite) and it works with the engine immobilizer preventing theft, and impressive performance..

Performance for the V8 diesel gives a decent 5.5 second 0-60, while the electric version gives a sports car level 4 second 0-60 time. Both the electric and hybrid versions have one of the most advanced regenerative braking systems in the world. Given this is a segment-leading offering pricing starting at $65K is surprisingly reasonable though you can get up to $90K pretty fast depending on how you option the truck out.

The Truck is awesome, but there is one big problem.

#3  Given the 'awkwardness' of getting it dealer-serviced, maybe they should make it relatively easy for non-dealers to service. That would convert a weakness to a strength, since the competition now mainly has to be dealer serviced (and that service is not very good.) (Of course even non-dealers are now having problems finding good mechanics.)

#5  The diesel and gas engine CAT vehicles sound promising. The EVs (CAT as well as other manufacturers) have their own problems with limited reharging stations, service problems, expensive batteries and limited ranges. The federal government has meddled far too much in the automotive business with their green agendas.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis dismisses migrant gang takeover of Aurora apartments as ''imagination''
Gov Polis and VP/Prez Harris are in agreement. See here.
[NYPOST] Colorado Gov. Jared Polis dismissed anger over Venezuela

...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...

n gang Tren de Aragua taking over apartment buildings in the Denver suburb of Aurora, calling it ''imagination'' — despite video footage, police reports and the city's mayor confirming it's happening.

Polis' press office offered the snarky statement Wednesday night in response to Aurora City Councilwoman Danielle Jurinsky — who told The Post the gang's takeovers are tied to his policies.

''The Governor has already let the Mayor know that the State is ready to support the local police department with assistance from state troopers and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if needed,'' Shelby Wieman, a spokesperson for the Democratic governor, told The Post.

Harris-Walz campaign has hired liberal activist who argued in 2022 that White supremacists have ''hijacked'' the Christian faith
[FoxNews] The Harris-Walz campaign has hired liberal activist the Rev. Jennifer Butler to be its new head of faith outreach, with Butler confirming the appointment on social media and in an interview with Religion News Service.

Butler is a longtime liberal activist who argued in 2022 that White supremacists have "hijacked" the Christian faith, and has said that faith calls us to "resist." She is the founder of the nonprofit Faith in Public Life, which claims to advance the "moral imperative for a just, inclusive and equitable country." She now runs a campaign seeking to root out White nationalism within the Christian faith.

"I bring a broad set of relationships that I think can help, very quickly, pull a broad coalition together," Butler told Religion News Service (RNS) on Wednesday. "I also recognize that we're at a pivotal moment in American democracy where faith voices for justice are needed now more than ever— The Harris-Walz campaign is a really unique opportunity to shift the debate, to engage all of those who are concerned about what a Trump presidency would mean, the work of this campaign and what it can do to transform America."

Former Baltimore Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby, attends barbecue held in her honor while on home detention
[NYPOST] Former Baltimore City State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby was out partying with friends, supporters and family members at an event located several miles from her home in Baltimore over the weekend despite being ordered by a judge to a year of home detention.
"Rules are for little people. Don't you know who I AM?"
Mosby was convicted on one count of mortgage fraud in February after she testified that she unintentionally made false statements on loan applications to buy two Florida vacation homes.

In November, she was convicted of two counts of perjury by a federal jury after she falsely claimed financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic in order to withdraw money from the city's retirement fund.

A judge sentenced Mosby to a year of home detention and three years of supervised release in May.

Mosby posted a video on Instagram on Thursday of her with family and friends at a ''thank-you barbecue'' in Clarksville, Maryland.

In the video slideshow, Mosby is seen wearing an ankle monitor.

The court-ordered home detention requires Mosby to remain confined to her home in Fells Point as well as communal areas at her apartment complex, according to FOX 45 in Baltimore.

California officials ticket the 'Bubble Pirate,' an artist and Navy veteran, for 'fluid littering'
[FoxNews] A Navy veteran in California has been entertaining the local community with his creative bubble performances for over 10 years.
"entertaining" by taking over a public lawn
But Sandy Snakenberg, known as the "Bubble Pirate," was donning his pirate costume and performing his usual bubble show at La Jolla Cove in San Diego last week when he was issued a ticket by park officials, he told Fox News Digital.

The ticket alleges that Snakenberg, 63, violated San Diego’s municipal code against littering due to the fluid from his bubbles.

Snakenberg said in a phone interview that he asked the park ranger to note that the liquid was from bubbles, but the officer did not do so, he said.

The ticket mandates that Snakenberg appear in court in October.

Snakenberg told Fox News Digital he is a disabled Navy veteran who has traveled all over the world for a variety of jobs in his life.

He makes his living from his bubble artistry and entertainment, he said. The van with all of his equipment and props doubles as his home.
"homeless"
"I was becoming more involved with bubbles, more professionally, making my own juices, my own devices. I did a Ted talk while in Singapore," he said.

Lately, said Snakenberg, vendors and artists in the community have been getting "herded" into designated four feet-by-eight feet areas by officials.
That's the point. The vendors take up public sidewalks and block traffic. One rule for all
"They're making everybody fight for these four by eight spaces, which are limited," he said.

"They are not in locations the artists would have chosen for themselves. I choose my location for safety reasons, both environmental and public, because if my bubbles go flying off into the streets, so will the kids."

A City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department spokesperson told Fox News Digital via email, "The City of San Diego values the rights of community members to engage in expressive activity in City parks, including artistic expression. This does require those engaging in these activities to do so in accordance with other City codes and regulations, including those related to littering and disposal of waste."

The spokesperson added, "In this instance, Park Rangers attempted to educate the individual numerous times that the residual substances from the bubbles are in violation of the City’s municipal code as it relates to littering (SDMC 63.0102(c)(8) Littering). The individual uses up to six gallons of liquid per day with the residual chemicals ending up in the lawn areas, which can cause damage to the grass."

"After witnessing numerous violations and receiving complaints from other park users, Rangers issued the lowest level citation available."

Big Lots Reportedly Mulls Bankruptcy Amid Consumer Downturn
[Zero] The theme of a consumer downturn (mainly for low/mid-tier) remains strong.

On Thursday morning, Dollar General missed Wall Street's profit and sales expectations and cut its full-year forecast, citing that core customers "feel financially constrained." With this persisting trend, it's unsurprising that home goods retailer Big Lots may be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.

Bloomberg reports that Ohio-based Big Lots, with about 1,400 stores nationwide, has mulled over whether a potential bankruptcy filing is the right move in the near term given the slide in sales, which resulted in a multi-year crash of shares trading in New York.

Walmart is doing OK. The company's best profit margin comes from major home improvement projects, e.g., updated kitchen.
A lot of these kinds of projects are funded by home refinancing which is not very good to do now because of the interest rates. Eventually, these projects will likely be done if interest rates go down.

RFK JR, what really happended AZ
[Levi Quackenboss] While more than half the nation rejoiced at the unexpected Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and President Trump Justice League Alliance on Friday afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona, social media posts were littered with curmudgeonly comments about about "RFK, Jr the sellout." How he threw his third party ticket in the trash in exchange for getting a job and, even worse — that his campaign was a psy-op from the beginning.

You may have noticed that I’ve been awfully quiet for more than a year now, and I’ll finally share why that has been. Since March 2023, I’ve had the honor of a lifetime in serving as one of the 100 or so staffers on the Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. campaign. I didn’t have the brain capacity to keep this blog alive while working 65 hours a week and still trying to parent my kids, and besides, I like to write about what’s going on in the world and I couldn’t possibly share what was going in inside the campaign without running afoul of my NDA.

But I’m writing to you tonight because I want all of you to understand exactly what happened in Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday afternoon. Even people who are overjoyed about the union cannot possibly comprehend the meaning of RFK’s actions— and I want you to be willing to set the record straight with anyone who will listen.

The Democrat party has been taken over and can only offer the poorest quality of candidates.

In the Orekhov direction, three attacks were repelled near Malaya Tokmachka and Rabotino.

It is indicated that the enemy is actively using aviation in all directions. The enemy also does not stop bombing its territory, having carried out 11 air strikes today, dropping 16 bombs on the Kursk region.

Let us recall that on August 28, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 1,200 occupiers in one day . The total number of losses of the Russian army since the beginning of the invasion has exceeded 612 thousand soldiers.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: August 29, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 22:04 EU countries have not yet found a solution to unblock 6 billion euros for military supplies to Ukraine through the European Peace Fund, Borrell said. According to him, the EU has also not reached a decision on lifting restrictions on Western weapons strikes against Russia: each of the 27 EU countries will make these decisions independently.

21:56 As a result of today's artillery shelling of Konstantinovka in Donetsk region, at least one person was killed and six were wounded, reported the head of the OVA Vadim Filashkin.

21:33 The investigation is considering "friendly fire" from Ukrainian air defense as one of the possible causes of the crash of the F-16 fighter, Voice of America reports, citing sources in the Ukrainian Air Force. In addition, technical malfunction and pilot error are among the possible causes of the crash.

20:47 Kuleba stated following the meeting of the heads of the EU foreign ministries that the EU will speed up the provision of weapons and energy equipment to Ukraine.

19:52 The General Staff confirmed the loss of an F-16 during the Russian attack on August 26. During the air battle, the F-16s' onboard weapons shot down four enemy cruise missiles. When approaching the next target, contact was lost with one of the aircraft. As it turned out later, the plane crashed and the pilot died. A special commission of the Ministry of Defense was created to determine the causes of the accident.

19:06 The Wall Street Journal writes that one of the F-16 fighters crashed in Ukraine. According to the publication, the incident occurred on Monday, August 26, during a massive Russian attack. However, the plane was not shot down - the newspaper writes that it was probably a pilot error. Meanwhile, the West Air Command reported that pilot Alexey Mes, who had previously destroyed three missiles and a drone during a large-scale attack, died on August 26. By order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant Colonel Alexey Mes was posthumously awarded the military rank of colonel.

17:50 Syrsky reported that he had worked for several days in a row in the brigades that were defending the Pokrovsk direction, where the most difficult situation had currently developed. According to him, the most intense fighting was taking place on the eastern outskirts of Grodovka, further along the line of Kamenny and Krasny Yar, directly in Novogrodovka, below, in the area of the eastern outskirts of Mikhailovka, which is located in front of Selidovo.

"The fighting is extremely tough. The enemy is throwing everything that can move and attack into battle, trying to break through the defense of our troops. In such conditions, our main task is to strengthen the defense of our troops in the most difficult sections of the front, to provide the brigades with a sufficient amount of ammunition and other material and technical resources," the commander-in-chief added.

17:43 Russians shelled the center of the city of Konstantinovka in Donetsk Oblast, wounding four people, the prosecutor's office reported. Two more people were injured as a result of enemy shelling in the city of Ukrainsk.

17:39 Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said at a meeting with his European colleagues in Brussels that many EU countries are not fulfilling their obligations to provide Ukraine with promised weapons in a timely manner, and this is complicating the situation at the front. "That is why I ask whether we are part of the problem, whether we take this seriously, whether we are really taking measures to stop these terrible things?" he stressed.

In turn, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmytro Kuleba, also stated that Kyiv has still not received some of the promised Patriot systems. "Therefore, I will call on all partners who have taken on obligations to finally deliver them," the minister noted.

17:27 Zelensky reported that he held two important meetings with the military command: "The first was on the front. In detail on each direction. The greatest attention was paid to Pokrovsk and Toretsk. Provision of our brigades and specific defensive actions. We separately discussed the operation in the Kursk region. The tasks of the operation are being implemented."

The details of the second meeting, according to the president, are confidential: "The only thing worth noting is gratitude to all our developers and manufacturers of long-range weapons. We are increasing the Ukrainian long-range force."

16:36 Ground Forces Commander Alexander Pavlyuk secretly met with commanders of 35 NATO countries, Bild reports, citing sources. The closed meeting took place on August 27-29 in Dresden. Among other things, the topic of countering drones was discussed.

16:20 Italy still does not allow Ukraine to use its weapons to strike Russian territory, said Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani: "Italy has not changed its position on weapons for Ukraine: we prohibit Kiev from using weapons received from the Italian side to strike Russian territory. Each country decides for itself. We are not in a state of war with Russia, NATO is not in a state of war with Russia, so Italy allows the use of our weapons on Ukrainian territory. Other countries decide as they see fit."

16:11 The number of casualties as a result of yesterday's Russian strike on Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region has risen to 21, including ten police officers, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. The enemy struck the city center with a FAB-500 with a UMPK module. 43 multi-story and private houses, cars were damaged.

15:49 Russian troops continue their offensive in Donbass. In just a few days, the occupiers managed to take Novogrodovka, an important stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces 10 km southeast of Pokrovsk, and can now advance further on the regional center itself. In Pokrovsk and Mirnograd, mass evacuation of the population has been underway for several days. For more details, see the article Russian Troops Take Back Donbass .

14:57 A fire at the Atlas oil depot in the Rostov region has already engulfed at least three oil tanks, Radio Liberty reports, citing satellite images. Local Telegram channels are reporting that one of the tanks has been depressurized and four are on fire. Data from NASA's system, which tracks fires on the Earth's surface, also indicates that the oil depot is still burning as of August 29. The Ukrainian Armed Forces struck this oil depot on the night of August 28.

14:18 During the latest massive Russian strike on the energy sector on August 26, four nuclear units were disconnected from the grid - Ukraine reported this to the IAEA in an official note. In particular, at 08:58, units No. 1, 3 and 4 at the Rivne NPP were disconnected, at 09:05 the capacity of the units at the South Ukraine NPP was limited, and at 17:05, due to fluctuations in the grid, the third unit at the South Ukraine NPP was disconnected.

14:06 China and the United States have made no progress in discussing the war in Ukraine and have not outlined any plan, US presidential aide Jake Sullivan said following his visit to Beijing, where he met with Xi Jinping and the head of the Foreign Ministry.

13:21 Ukraine can strike Russian territory with F-16s donated by the Netherlands, but not civilian targets, said the country's Armed Forces Commander Onno Eichelsheim. "We have not imposed any restrictions on the use and range of the F-16s, provided that the laws of war are observed," he noted.

13:13 Ukraine will face many trials in winter, but there will be no apocalyptic scenario, said Ukrenergo CEO Volodymyr Kudritsky. According to him, at an air temperature of +2°C…+3°C, it is quite possible that there will be no outages, but at -10°C, it will be impossible to balance the energy system without outages. Kudritsky also said that Ukrenergo has accumulated a large reserve of transformers: "Ukraine receives more equipment every month than Russia is capable of producing. Therefore, there will be no apocalyptic scenario in winter."

12:26 The US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports that the Ukrainian Armed Forces' advance in the Kursk region has slowed, with Ukrainian forces now trying to consolidate and hold on to areas they recently took control of. According to analysts, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have advanced in the villages of Vetreno, Kremni, and Sheptukhovtsy (all east and northeast of Korenevo); within eastern Nechayevo and Cherkasskoye Porechnoye (both northeast of Sudzha); and in the fields south of the village of Spalnoye (southeast of Sudzha).

12:04 The West is facing delays in agreeing on a $50 billion loan for Ukraine, Euractiv writes. According to the publication, the talks are slow due to US concerns about how long the frozen assets will remain under sanctions. This is due to the fact that the European Union needs to extend sanctions against Russia every six months, and this requires the consent of all 27 EU countries. The situation is complicated by the fact that Hungary can veto.

11:42 Russians fired artillery at Nikopol in the Dnipropetrovsk region - one person was killed, five were wounded, reported the head of the OVA Serhiy Lysak. A shopping center, multi-story buildings, and a gas pipeline were damaged.

11:25 Borrell called for Ukraine not to be restricted in the issue of using weapons to strike Russia. "Restrictions on the use of weapons transferred to Ukraine must be lifted, and their full use must be allowed to strike military targets in Russia in accordance with international rules," the head of European diplomacy said in Brussels at an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers. He also reported that more than 6 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine has been frozen "due to opposition from one of the EU countries," and promised to find ways to bypass this veto.

10:31 At night, during the Russian attack on Ukraine, one of the "shahids" again flew into the territory of Belarus in the Yelsky district, and aviation was used for the first time to destroy it, the monitoring group Belaruski Gayun reports. According to analysts, after the drone entered the airspace of Belarus, a fighter jet of the Belarusian Air Force tried to shoot it down for about 20 minutes, after which residents of the Yelsky district of the Gomel region heard at least two explosions and observed a bright flash in the sky.

10:14 Air defense shot down 60 of 74 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs at night, another 14 drones fell on Ukrainian territory, the Air Force reported. In addition, Russia used three Kh-59/69 guided air missiles (two of which were shot down by air defense) and two more missiles, the type of which is being determined. Air defense operated within the Kharkiv, Cherkasy, Kirovograd, Kyiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, Sumy and Donetsk regions.

09:19 The number of victims as a result of yesterday's Russian strike on Kupyansk has risen to 17, reported the head of the Kharkiv OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

08:58 Five people were wounded in the Kherson region as a result of Russian shelling over the past day, reported the head of the OVA Oleksandr Prokudin. A gas station, one multi-story building, ten private houses, and a gas pipeline were damaged.

08:47 Five people were killed in Donetsk Oblast as a result of Russian shelling on August 28: four in Izmailovka and one in Lisovka. Another six people in the region were injured in the past 24 hours, said OVA head Vadim Filashkin.

08:35 The General Staff confirmed the Ukrainian strike on the Atlas oil depot in the Rostov region on the night of August 28. The attack caused a fire in the vertical tanks of the facility; fire trains were called in to extinguish it. The mission was carried out by units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces. In addition, strikes were carried out on the Zenit oil depot in the Kirov region and the field artillery depot of the Russian military group Zapad in the Voronezh region. Detailed information on the consequences is being clarified.

08:24 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of August 29:

  • personnel - about 612,390 (+1200) people,

  • tanks - 8571 (+3),

07:57 Russia attacked Kiev with drones at night, more than ten were destroyed by air defense forces, said the head of the Kyiv State Defense Army, Sergei Popko. As a result of falling debris, windows and doors in an apartment building were damaged in the Goloseevsky district, and a fire broke out in a non-residential building on the territory of a private household in Desnyansky. There were no reports of casualties.

06:28 In Cherkassy, during a night drone attack, as a result of falling debris, a fire broke out on the territory of one of the private enterprises; it is being extinguished, said the head of the OVA Igor Taburets.

00:33 A new explosion occurred at the burning Atlas oil depot in the Rostov region. Russian publics write that a tank could have been depressurized at the facility in the Kamensky district due to a strong fire at the oil refinery after the drone attack on August 28.

Russian Tactical Analysis: 'Trap or luck:' why everyone is worried about the 'quick breakthrough ' of Russian troops to Pokrovsk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from the V Kontakte post from Reports from the Novorossiya militia

[VK] 30.08.24. Analysis from the channel "Military Chronicle".

🔺. The last few days have been actively discussed "too fast" advance of Russian troops in the Pokrovsk direction. Is it dangerous in the current conditions?

▪Why are the troops moving so fast?

After taking a chain of settlements behind Avdiivka (Ocheretino, Progress, Volchye), the speed of advance of Russian troops increased significantly. This happened largely because the group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this direction suffered heavy losses in the battle for Avdiivka and continued to suffer these losses further. In addition, these were large one-time losses of units that were familiar with the section of the front. And they tried to hastily replace them with units like the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 115th Brigade, unfamiliar with the area. In the end, everyone rolled back. At the same time, the advance of the Russian Armed Forces is not hundreds of kilometers or even tens.

▪Why do the Ukrainian Armed Forces hold some sections of the front and surrender others?

In Toretsk, which is cited as an example of "serious defense", a network of fortifications was built, while the Ukrainian Armed Forces occupy a significant part of the urban development. There is no such defensive line beyond Ocheretin, anddifficulties arise with the transfer of reinforcements (which are flying both in advance and at the deployment stage). It is difficult and complicated to pick out infantry from urban development, so the Kanal microdistrict in Chasovy Yar has been practically wiped into dust by artillery, and approximately the same thing is happening in Toretsk. The Ukrainian Armed Forces did not have time to strengthen their positions behind Ocheretin, so they preferred to retreat. This also explains the rapid entry of the Russian army through Novogrodovka.

▪Can the Ukrainian Armed Forces strike from the north and cut off the Pokrovsk grouping of the Russian Armed Forces?

For this to be possible, reserves (preferably in the amount of several brigades) must appear quickly and deploy almost simultaneously where everything has been zeroed in by Russian artillery since 2022 - in the area of Slovyansk, Kramatorsk and Konstantinovka, which are subject to missile strikes almost every day. At the same time, many "worried" about the progress of the Russian Armed Forces do not take into account another circumstance. Even if the reserves are collected, to strike from the north against the advancing units of the Russian Armed Forces they will have to move along the front line, which is within reach of the entire spectrum of heavy weapons.

At the same time, a counterattack against an attacking group covered by artillery and aviation, even at first glance, looks like a “meat assault” on a large scale.

However, this point of view (as well as a detailed study of the operational situation) is not being considered by those “worried” about the rapid breakthrough of the Russian Armed Forces to Pokrovsk. And why is a big question.

What else is important to understand about the Pokrovsk operation?

So far, the Russian army has gained good momentum and is moving, in general, without significant interference (that is, with battles, but without critical hitches). But judging by the intensity of the battles and the actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this area as a whole, it seems that the plan of the Ukrainian army probably involves a retreat from secondary cities in favor of the main fortified areas - Mirnograd and Pokrovsk.

It is quite possible that there was no need to build an analogue of the Surovikin Line there: the development in these cities itself is not very dense, but not the lowest, and if necessary it is indeed possible to dig in there. The only question is for how long.

If these guesses are correct, then the collapse of the defense, which is recorded by numerous analysts, may be temporary, and the main defensive lines are being prepared in the cities themselves, following the example of Avdeevka/Artemovsk, only without concrete bunkers and other capital structures, the construction of which would take from several weeks to several months."

The West reports on the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have not been able to achieve significant progress since the attack on the Kursk region, German journalist Julian Repke said on the social network H.

“Three weeks after the start of the Ukrainian offensive operation in the Kursk region, we returned to where we were on August 5,” he wrote.

Repke added that he could not find any good news about the Ukrainian Armed Forces' successes in the area.

California parents terrified after [20] migrants try to board school bus
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A group of as many as 20 migrants tried to board school busus filled with kids in southern California, according to officials.

The migrants attempted to board buses along two school routes twice this week at the stop near Highway 94 and Cochera, per the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District in San Diego County.

Superintendent Liz Bystedt said in a letter to parents that on Tuesday three migrants were walking in the middle of the highway, trying to stop one of the district's school buses and forcing it to go around the group.

Then on Wednesday morning, about 20 migrants rushed at one bus as it was picking up students from the same stop.

Parents who were present say they helped the bus driver ensure that none of the migrants boarded the bus, as reported by Fox5 San Diego.

Nicole Cardinale told Fox 5 her eight-year-old son's school bus was one of the ones affected this week, describing the incident as 'really scary.'

'He said these adults - they weren't kids - had backpacks on and they were trying to get on [his bus]... He said there was a lot of them.

Bystedt has announced that buses will now skip stops with migrants nearby, heading to the next one on the route, for 'the safety of students and bus drivers.'

'Please stay [vigilant] and if the bus drives by, please follow the bus to pick up your child at the next stop,' the superintendent told parents.

It's unclear why the migrants tried to board the buses, but migrant advocate Pedro Rios told Fox 5 that the heat and mountainous terrain in the area can drive a desperate response.

The school district reported the incident to US patrol, California Highway Patrol and the San Diego's Sheriff's office.

San Diego became the busiest corridor for illegal crossings in April, according to U.S. figures, the fifth region to hold that distinction in two years in a sign of how quickly migration routes are changing.

Many migrants say San Diego is the easiest and least dangerous place to cross. They constantly check their phones for messages, social media posts and voice calls that help them plan their route and crossing.

San Diego’s draw lies in part because Tijuana is the largest city on the Mexican side of the border, U.S. officials say. People of nearly 100 nationalities have arrived at Tijuana’s airport this year, including 12,000 each from Colombia and Cuba, about 6,000 each from Haiti and Venezuela and thousands more from Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, China and Mauritania.

Migration in San Diego presents a challenge because people come from a wider variety of countries — including India, Georgia, Egypt, Jamaica and Vietnam — where deportation flights can be costly and difficult to arrange, U.S. officials say. Mexicans, who are deported nearby over land, and Guatemalans and Hondurans, whose governments have long accepted frequent deportation flights, are a smaller presence there than elsewhere on the border.

Police force's first ever black female superintendent is demoted over corrupt scheme to give top jobs to minorities
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The Toronto Police Service's first black female superintendent has been hit with a two-year demotion following a scandal that saw her help other black members of the force cheat a promotional process.

Officer Stacy Clarke, a 26-year veteran of the police service, received the penalty at a police tribunal hearing in downtown Toronto Wednesday.

She will now serve as an inspector, down one rank from her old position, officials said. She will also be required to reapply to the rank of superintendent after 24 months, after pleading guilty to professional misconduct last year.

Outside the agency's headquarters, Clarke said she planned to take time with her 17-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son to process the decision.

She ascended to the post in 2020, following stints in the agency's homicide and divisional policing units. She was the focus of an investigation after giving out confidential information to six black constables before their promotional interviews.

Boeing's Starliner Faces Uncertain Future as NASA Considers Cancellation
[Breitbart] Boeing’s plagued Starliner spacecraft is facing an uncertain future as technical issues, delays, and budget overruns continue to mount, leading NASA and industry experts to question the viability of the project.

Futurism reports that the Boeing Starliner spacecraft, once touted as a critical component of NASA’s Commercial Crew program, is now facing the possibility of cancellation due to a series of technical mishaps, supply chain issues, and years of delays. The troubled capsule is returning empty-handed from its latest mission, with NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams planning to catch a ride back to Earth on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon instead.

The decision to abandon Starliner mid-mission is a significant blow to Boeing, which has been battling with the spacecraft’s development for years. Since 2016, the project has exceeded its budget by a staggering $1.6 billion, according to a report by Rooters. This latest setback has raised doubts among analysts and industry experts about whether Starliner will ever fly again.

Former NASA deputy administrator Lori Garver expressed uncertainty about the future of the project, telling Rooters, "I am not sure the decision will ultimately be NASA’s. Boeing is going to have to foot much of this bill, as they have been." When asked about the possibility of Starliner’s cancellation, a Boeing spokesperson did not directly address the issue, stating only that the company is focusing on the safety of the crew and spacecraft and preparing for an uncrewed return.

Adding to Boeing’s woes, a recent report by NASA’s inspector general found that the company’s contributions to the agency’s Moonbound Space Launch System are also years behind schedule and significantly over budget. This, combined with controversies surrounding Boeing’s passenger jet business and recent executive shakeups, has put the company under increased scrutiny.

The failure of Starliner’s first crewed test flight has denied NASA the confidence it needed to certify the spacecraft for regular crew rotation missions to the International Space Station. The space agency had hoped that Starliner would provide redundancy in case SpaceX’s Crew Dragon experienced any issues. Instead, persistent gas leaks and thruster problems have cast doubt on the spacecraft’s reliability.

Biden Knew His Gaza Pier Would Be a Dangerous Disaster and Did It Anyway-Risk and Waste For A One-Liner in SOTU Speech
He got good people hurt and killed, both ours and others. Not-so-good people too, but that also put the good ones at additional risk.
[Townhall] A new Inspector General report shows President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Too old and senile to be prosecuted, not too old and senile to set national policy...
was warned that building a "humanitarian pier" in the Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Strip would fail as a result of rough seas and other logistical issues. Biden ignored the warnings and for the sake of virtue signaling, demanded the $230 million taxpayer funded pier be built anyway.

"Discussions about establishing a pier to deliver humanitarian assistance to Gaza took place before President Biden’s announcement at the State of the Union on March 7. According to a senior BHA official, interagency discussions had considered options for commercial and DoD-supported piers to establish a maritime corridor into Gaza. At the time, BHA advocated for transporting aid through land routes and did not pursue planning a maritime route because of the logistical and technical challenges it would present," the report states.

Making matters worse, Gazooks didn't want the pier -- a warning issued before construction -- and Biden demanded the project move forward.

"Security concerns also significantly impacted the distribution of humanitarian assistance delivered through JLOTS. Before its launch, WFP highlighted in its USAID award documentation that lack of community buy-in among Paleostinians for the maritime corridor could result in significant safety and security risks and compromise its operations," the report states.

Biden admin restarts controversial migrant flight program with additional vetting after fraud revelations
[FoxNews] New standards include fingerprinting of sponsors.
Good. Also photos and DNA, one hopes, and both from the illegals applying for asylum…or what ever it is that they’e applying for.
The Biden administration on Thursday announced that it is restarting a controversial parole policy that allows tens of thousands of migrants into the United States each month – after it was put on hold last month after revelations about significant amounts of fraud within part of the program.

The Department of Homeland Security said it is resuming the parole processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans (CHNV) after it "incorporated additional vetting of U.S.-based supporters to strengthen the integrity of the processes."

"With these updated procedures in place, DHS is resuming the issuance of new Advance Travel Authorizations and will closely monitor how this new process is operating moving forward," a spokesperson said.

Fox News Digital first reported this month that the administration paused the issuing of advance travel authorizations in July for the program, which allows 30,000 nationals from those countries to travel into the U.S. each month and enter legally under the administration's use of parole since early 2023.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed to Fox News Digital at the time that "out of an abundance of caution" it has stopped issuing the authorizations and that it takes abuse of processes very seriously.

The pause came after an internal report, parts of which have been made public by the Federation of American Immigration Reform, found that 100,948 forms were filled out by 3,218 serial sponsors – those whose number appears on 20 or more forms.

It also found that 24 of the 1,000 most used numbers belonged to a dead person. Meanwhile, 100 physical addresses were used between 124 and 739 times on over 19,000 forms. Those addresses included storage units. The focus is on issues with supporter filings, and not with the filings from the beneficiaries of the program themselves.

On Thursday, DHS said the new vetting measures include "further scrutiny of supporters’ financial records and criminal background, additional vetting to identify fraudulent supporter profiles, and bolstered review methods to identify serial filing trends." DHS will also require fingerprints from supporters.

"Together with our existing rigorous vetting of potential beneficiaries seeking to travel to the United States, these new procedures for supporters have strengthened the integrity of these processes and will help protect against exploitation of beneficiaries," the statement said.

The Biden administration has claimed the expanded use of parole processes has led to a drop in illegal border crossings, including a 98% decrease from CHNV nationals compared to December 2022.

But Republicans have slammed the administration’s use of parole, arguing that it represents an abuse of the parole process – which is authorized to be used on a case by case basis for urgent humanitarian reasons or significant public benefits.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn., said the resumption was no surprise, despite the fraud revelations.

"The CHNV program, along with the use of the CBP One app at the Southwest border, has helped the president and his border czar play a massive shell game, encouraging otherwise-inadmissible aliens to simply cross at ports of entry instead of between them," he said in a statement. "My Committee has engaged with the department since this pause was announced, and the results were sobering. Instead of scrapping the clearly flawed program, the department is allowing it to continue without rooting out the fraud or putting adequate safeguards in place to prevent exploitation by sponsors here in the United States."

Aoun explained that he opposes that tiny Lebanon participate in the Gazoo

"Hezbollah's performance is rational, smart and politically correct and I have confidence in Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah," Aoun said, describing the FPM's relations with Hezbollah as "calm."

On another note, Aoun defended FPM chief Jebran Bassil after four FPM members - Ibrahim Kanaan, Elias Bou Saab, Alain Aoun, and Simon Abi Ramia — resigned or were expelled from the FPM's political council. "Bassil is not a dictator but a decision-maker, and they do not want that," Aoun said, adding that the four MPs have made mistakes, had new political inclinations and views, and took decisions without consulting the party. He also described Bou Saab of being "ungrateful".

"The FPM is still the strongest Christian party," Aoun said. "It is correcting itself and there is nothing wrong with that."

Berlin to deport Islamic center head accused of ties to Hezbollah, Iran
[NAHARNET] Germany is planning to deport the leader of an Islamic center it banned in July over alleged links to bully boy groups, an interior ministry spokeswoman said Thursday.

Investigators swooped on the Hamburg Islamic Center
…alternately in the Rantburg archives as Hamburg Islamic Centre, Islamic Center of Hamburg, and the Blue Mosque. The simple turquoise edifice is the oldest mosque in Germany, having been completed by the Iranian expat community in Hamburg in 1965. 's Hezbollah.

Mohammad Mofatteh, 57, the former director of the center, has been ordered to leave Germany within 14 days and faces deportation if he does not comply, the spokeswoman said.

He will not be allowed to re-enter Germany and could face up to three years in prison if he does.

Andy Grote, interior minister for the state of Hamburg, said Mofatteh's deportation was "the next logical step" against the Hamburg Islamic Center.

"As a top religious representative of the inhumane regime in Tehran, his time in Germany has come to an end," he said.

On banning the center in July, Germany's interior ministry accused it of being a "direct representative of Iran's supreme leader" and spreading Tehran's ideology "in an aggressive and bully boy manner."

The ministry also accused the center of backing the "military and political dimension" of organizations like Hezbollah.

Germany considers Hezbollah a "Shiite terrorist organization" and in 2020 banned Hezbollah from carrying out activities on its soil.

Iran reacted angrily to the accusations and last week shut down a German language institute in Tehran in what appeared to be a tit-for-tat move.

The move against Mofatteh comes with deportations high on the political agenda in Germany after a deadly knife attack in the western city of Solingen.

Three people were killed and eight injured in the rampage, allegedly carried out by a Syrian asylum seeker and claimed by the Islamic State

group.

The attack has reignited a bitter debate about immigration in Germany, with Chancellor Olaf Scholz promising to "do everything we can to ensure that those who cannot and must not stay here in Germany are repatriated and deported."

Fighting rages in Gaza as Palestinians hope for a pause for polio vaccinations
[GEOTV] Palestinians in Gaza were waiting on Thursday to see if there would be a pause in fighting to allow a polio vaccination campaign to begin, as the conflict raged across the besieged enclave, killing at least 20 people.

The United Nations is preparing to vaccinate an estimated 640,000 children in Gaza, where the World Health Organisation confirmed on August 23 that at least one baby has been paralysed by the type 2 poliovirus, the first such case in the territory in 25 years.

New defendants have emerged in the case of the terrorist attack at Crocus
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[REGNUM] The Basmanny District Court of Moscow has extended the preventive measure for five new defendants in the case of the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the Moscow region, the court's press service reported on August 29.

“The detention period of Sh. N. Gadoev, Z. A. Ismoilov, M. A. Soliev, U. A. Soliev, and Kh. A. Khamidov (included in the list of terrorists and extremists) has been extended until December 1, 2024,” the press service reported.

Previously, 12 defendants in the criminal case were arrested.

The four alleged direct perpetrators were charged under the articles “Committing a terrorist act resulting in death as part of an organized group,” “Participation in a terrorist organization,” “Undergoing training for the purpose of carrying out terrorist activity,” and “Illegal arms trafficking as part of an organized group.”

The rest are accused of aiding and abetting the crime.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on August 23, five defendants in the case of the terrorist attack in Crocus appealed the extension of their arrest until November 22.

Terrorists attacked Crocus City Hall on March 22. They broke into the building and started shooting at people, then set fire to the auditorium. As a result of the terrorist attack, 144 people died, including six children. In addition, more than 500 people were injured.

Four people suspected of directly carrying out the attack were detained on March 23 in the Bryansk region. They were driving a car towards the border with Ukraine. Russian authorities said that the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall had Ukrainian roots.

One of the new defendants in the Crocus terrorist attack case served in the Russian army

One of the five new defendants in the case of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, Khusein Khamidov, is a Russian citizen who served in the Russian army several years ago. According to his twin brother, they went to serve immediately after they turned 18. Relatives also put forward their own version of how Khusein could have been involved in the terrorist attack.

On August 29, the Basmanny District Court of Moscow extended the preventive measure for five defendants in the case of the terrorist attack in Crocus, whose names had not previously been disclosed. They were Gadoev Shakhromdzhon, Ismailov Zubaydullo, Soliev Mustakim, Soliev Umedzhon and Khamidov Khusein. The Regnum news agency managed to find the family of one of the defendants and find out how their relative lived before he was among those accused of the terrorist attack.

Khusein Khamidov's family moved from Dushanbe to Yekaterinburg more than 10 years ago. In 2014, they became Russian citizens.

"After we became citizens of Russia, my brother and I went to serve in the army, served in Vladivostok. Then I went to Moscow, I work and study at JSC Russian Railways to be a track fitter. And my parents and brother stayed to live in Yekaterinburg. Khusein rented an apartment separately from his parents and officially worked as a loader at Ozon," says the accused's twin brother, Hasan.

Khasan Khamidov was shocked by the news of the charges against his brother. According to him, about five months ago, Hussein simply disappeared and stopped communicating.

"Our family does everything according to the law, we have never violated anything and have never done anything bad to anyone. My mother does not work, she takes care of the house, my father does construction. My brother cannot be involved in the terrorist attack. This cannot be, he could never do such a thing," the young man assured.
"Please don't kill us!"
The suspect's brother suggested how Khusein Khamidov could have been involved in the terrorist attack. According to him, Khusein rented an apartment in Yekaterinburg and was experiencing financial difficulties. In connection with this, he found the tenants, who are now defendants in the terrorist attack case, who were detained in Dagestan. Khusein's brother believes that he did not know any details about his neighbors in the apartment. However, he helped them find jobs.

"He helped them get jobs, as a taxi driver, I think. And apparently they were involved in criminal activities, but my brother didn't know that. They lived with him for several months, and then the terrorist attack happened in Crocus," explains Hasan.

Hussein's father, Abdurasul, spoke in detail about the arrest.

"When his flatmates disappeared again, it turned out that they were detained in Dagestan. Then my son was detained and taken to Dagestan. It turned out that money was being withdrawn from his card - money was transferred to his card, and he withdrew it for these tenants. They said that this was money from the family. He also helped them buy SIM cards and helped them create an account to work as a taxi driver," Hussein's father said.

Terrorists attacked Crocus City Hall on March 22. They broke into the building and started shooting at people, then set fire to the auditorium. As a result of the terrorist attack, 144 people died, including six children. In addition, more than 500 people were injured.

Arabia
'Ecological Terrorism': The US is looking for a way to eliminate the Houthis with the help of others
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] Houthi activity in the Red Sea continues to escalate. The pro-Iranian Ansar Allah movement has carried out more than a hundred attacks using ballistic missiles, drones and unmanned boats in the ten months of the “sea war.”

The escalation in the Red Sea has affected the interests of 65 countries and 29 major energy and shipping companies. Despite attempts to influence the Houthis, it has not been possible to reduce their activity in the Red Sea.

It is not surprising that opponents of the movement are looking for new ways to deal with them.

TANKER OF DISCORD
The recent attack by the Houthis on the Greek tanker MV Sounion has caused a lot of noise. It was not the first case of a serious damage to a cargo ship - by this time the Houthis had already sunk at least two dry cargo ships (Tutor and Verbena) and almost sunk the tanker Marlin Luanda. However, it was the footage of the burning MV Sounion that was all over the world's media.

At the time of the attack, the tanker, which "suffered critical damage to its tanks," may have been carrying up to 150,000 tons of petroleum products, making the likely spill one of the largest in the region's history.

Of course, the figure is still far from the “oil apocalypse” of 1991, when up to 11 million tons of oil products simultaneously ended up in the waters of the Persian Gulf, but this was the first case of pollution of the marine environment in recent years.

Despite the fact that no objective data on the leaks detected has been presented, the US is actively promoting the topic of the disaster in the Red Sea, accusing the Houthis of environmental terrorism.

At the same time, as the Pentagon reported, Iranian proxies deliberately worsened the situation by not allowing tugboats to get to the burning tanker and threatening to strike rescue ships.

The West also believes that the Houthis chose the MV Sounion as a sacrificial victim: it was reported that after the missile and drone strikes on the tanker, a group of fighters boarded it and planted explosives in order to blow up the vessel remotely and guarantee a leak.

At the same time, representatives of the movement dispute the accusations. According to them, the strike was controlled and oil products did not get into the Red Sea, especially since a possible oil spill would have threatened the security of all of Yemen, including the territories controlled by Ansar Allah.

In addition, the Houthis did not interfere with the evacuation of the crew of the damaged vessel, and also agreed - after some deliberation - to allow tugboats into the sea fire zone. However, on the condition that Washington and other Western powers do not use this lull to carry out provocations.

The MV Sounion situation bears many similarities to the March incident involving damage to undersea fibre-optic cables near Yemen, in which the Houthis were also accused of terrorist activity and of obstructing repair work.

Although Ansar Allah was ready to assist in allowing foreign firms into the “affected area” on the condition that their actions were fully controlled by Yemeni security forces.

The ultimate goal of such media campaigns is quite clear: to secure the Houthis’ status as a party that cannot negotiate, turning their regional neighbors against them, and thereby provoking Iranian proxies into conflict with other Middle Eastern states.

BY OTHER PEOPLE'S HANDS
Despite having a large number of instruments of influence (including force), the United States is still unable to counter the activities of the Houthis.

Airstrikes on the traffic infrastructure have not produced any significant results, and the presence in the region of powerful naval missions – “Prosperity Guardian” and “Aspides”, the composition of which is constantly being strengthened – only increases the excitement of Iranian proxies.

The Houthis, with enviable regularity, take aim not only at civilian ships, but also at military vessels (including aircraft carriers), thereby undermining the coalition’s image.

In a situation where the US lacks the strength to influence the Houthis on its own, regional partners – Saudi Arabia and the UAE – are coming to the fore. Using them to draw away the Ansar Allah forces seems like a risky but tempting option.

Moreover, both the March break in the submarine cables and the incident with the MV Sounion pose a threat to the security of the Arabian monarchies, and they will be forced to respond to it sooner or later.

However, the Arabs are in no hurry to fully return to the Yemeni conflict.

Saudi Arabia is the most active in avoiding escalation with the Houthis. Riyadh has avoided participating in the American-British and Israeli retaliatory operations, not even providing its partners with “jump-off airfields.”

Moreover, the Saudis were not particularly enthusiastic about the naval mission "Guardian of Prosperity", reducing their participation in it to nominal.

The UAE is much more determined. The Houthis' "maritime war" has damaged the country's economic well-being: the volume of shipping through UAE ports has fallen more than twofold compared to the pre-crisis period, and national companies responsible for organizing shipping have suffered significant losses.

Moreover, given the close business ties between the UAE and Israel, Abu Dhabi is by default "in the crosshairs" of the Houthis, as representatives of the movement have repeatedly stated. So far, Iran, with which the UAE has established a "cold peace" in relations, has managed to restrain the zeal of its protégés.

However, given the strategic autonomy of the Houthis, even Tehran cannot guarantee absolute peace for the Emirates.

Finally, the UAE is eager to take revenge in the struggle for influence within Yemen. The “southern elite” nurtured with the participation of Abu Dhabi was unable to separate during the acute phase of the conflict (although it declared independence for the South several times), and during the calm period it was pushed aside by the Saudi creature from governing “a united Yemen.”

Therefore, the Emirates need to somehow strengthen the authority of the southern generals - and the operation against the Houthis (which will also allow Abu Dhabi to effectively remain outside the conflict) is quite suitable for this.

Washington and Abu Dhabi may well soon use Emirati proxy forces in Yemen to distract the Houthis from maritime operations.

This intention is evidenced, for example, by the fact that the southerners suddenly began to concentrate forces again along the line of contact in the disputed province of Dali, although several months earlier they had reached an agreement with Ansar Allah on the mutual withdrawal of troops.

The few tanks remaining in service with the southerners are also being transferred to the area, which indicates the seriousness of the intentions of the Emirati proxies.

To achieve their goals, the US and the UAE will only need to provoke the Houthis into a military clash with the southerners in order to blame pro-Iranian agents for disrupting the settlement in Yemen.

This will not only distract the Houthis from restoring the balance of interests within the country, but will also knock the ground out from under Tehran’s feet for some time, which will be forced to restore order in the ranks of the “Axis of Resistance” and explain itself to the Arabian monarchies.

Of course, such a combination will not allow the "sea war" to be completely stopped. However, it will become another element of the image of the "globally dangerous" Houthis, relying on which Washington will continue to expand the coalition to counter both Iranian proxies and Iran itself.

Police seize 210kg of narcotics in southeastern Iran
[IRNA] Following the intelligence activities of the anti-narcotics police in Sistan and Baluchestan province, some drug-smuggling bands who intended to transport the narcotics were identified, Brigadier General Ahmad Ali Goudarzi said on Thursday.

During the operation, 40kg of morphine, 21kg of heroin and 149 kg of opium were confiscated by the police, he added.

Iran

The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...

Despite high economic and human costs, the Islamic Theocratic Republic has been actively fighting drug trafficking over the past decades.

Hezbollah retaliates to Bekaa and Masnaa strikes, Israel strikes Rihan
[NAHARNET] Hezbollah attacked Thursday a base in the occupied Golan Heights with an array of suicide drones in response to Wednesday's strikes on the Bekaa and al-Masnaa.

The Israeli army said that several drones have went kaboom! in northern Golan, causing no casualties.

Israeli warplanes raided Thursday the Rihan mountain in the Jezzine District deeper in the south while artillery shelled al-Khiam, Kfarkela, Borj al-Moulouk, Deir Mimas and Tayrharfa.

Hezbollah, for its part, targeted the Zar'it barracks, Kfar Yuval, Dovev and the al-Tayhat Hill in north Israel.

Israel has vowed to bring quiet to the border to allow its citizens to return to their homes. It says it prefers to resolve the issue diplomatically through U.S. and other mediators but will use force if necessary. Hezbollah officials have said the group does not seek a wider war but is prepared for one.

Government Corruption
'Cleaning Up the Crypto Market.' Why the US Is Up in arms about Pavel Durov
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Ivan Lizan

[REGNUM] Telegram founder Pavel Durov was accused in France of failing to counteract the distribution of criminal content via the messenger. He was placed under judicial supervision and ordered to post bail of 5 million euros. In addition, Durov was banned from leaving France and required to report to the police twice a week.

In general, the 12 articles of the criminal code, incriminated to Pavel Durov by the French prosecutor's office, are as severe as they are absurd. Similar charges can be brought against Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk or Sergey Brin and Larry Page together.

It is obvious that in a normal – competitive, fair and impartial – trial the charges against Durov will fall apart. But in this case Paris is acting together with Brussels and Washington, and Durov should not hope for justice. And it is even more obvious to everyone that the matter is clearly not in the lack of desire of the Telegram founder to satisfy the requests of French law enforcement.

In addition to the official reason for Durov's detention, which boils down to maliciously ignoring Telegram requests from law enforcement agencies, there is a whole bunch of complementary unofficial ones. All of them look no less plausible.

Firstly, the US desire to destroy the Toncoin (TON) cryptocurrency, which Durov launched against the will of Washington.

Secondly, Brussels’ desire to force Telegram to create a pre-moderation system, that is, censoring content in accordance with the wishes of European bureaucrats.

Thirdly, but this reason is almost impossible to prove, there was probably a motive to gain access to encryption keys for secret correspondence in the messenger for the purpose of using them in domestic political struggle or espionage.

Due to Pavel Durov's diverse interests, these reasons should be considered together: they certainly do not contradict each other. Moreover, while French President Emmanuel Macron may indeed be concerned about the fight against crime and, say, the desire to spy on his allies and opponents, Brussels is much more concerned with censorship than maintaining law and order. And the United States has been paying close attention to cryptocurrencies for several years now in order to prevent the erosion of the global financial system.

In general, Durov was “caught” under a combination of articles, and they charged him with whatever they could.

MALICIOUS DISREGARD
Durov's philosophy is based on libertarianism: he does not feel any reverence for the state in principle.

He criticized the Russian past back at the turn of the 2000s and 2010s, and in 2014, if we are to believe Durov, he was asked to provide personal data of the organizers of the Euromaidan groups. Pavel refused, not “wanting to betray millions of Ukrainian users,” and suffered three times: in 2014, he lost control over the social network, in 2017, Petro Poroshenko blocked VKontakte in Ukraine, and from 2018 to 2020, Roskomnadzor blocked Telegram.

In 2017, French intelligence services, together with UAE intelligence (Durov holds passports from these countries), hacked Pavel's iPhone to gain access to the correspondence of ISIS terrorists (a terrorist organization banned in Russia). The countries took this step, as The Wall Street Journal writes, because the messenger administration maliciously ignored requests from law enforcement agencies.

In 2023, Brazil’s Supreme Court ordered Telegram blocked for refusing to provide data on the administrators of neo-Nazi groups accused of attacking a school in Aracruz. And after Pavel’s arrest, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol called for a thorough investigation into digital sex crimes after media reported that Telegram chats were frequently filled with erotic fake images and videos featuring South Korean women.

In general, Durov ignored law enforcement agencies for a long time and systematically. He cooperated only in rare cases, for which he was blocked in China, Iran, India and Brazil, as well as Spain (for three days). The authorities of France (in 2023), the Netherlands and Germany complained about the messenger.

Therefore, no matter how strange it may seem, Durov could have been detained for simply ignoring requests - sooner or later, law enforcement officials would have run out of patience. But this is only true in the case of France, since there are indeed plenty of oddities in the case.

UNCOORDINATED CRYPTO PROJECTS
Durov is also annoying Washington, but he has his own reasons, which may not be connected with ignoring requests and refusing to introduce censorship.

The Durov brothers, Pavel and Nikolai, initially developed Telegram as a messenger, but messengers are extremely difficult to monetize. The subscription model is not suitable because it scares the audience, selling additional features is ineffective, and advertising in Telegram only appeared in the fall of 2021 - 8 years after its launch.

But advertising for the Durov brothers was nothing more than a "crutch". In early 2018, Telegram announced plans to launch the TON blockchain platform. To do this, Telegram Group Inc. and its subsidiary TON Issuer sold 2.9 billion tokens and raised $1.7 billion. The project was initially scheduled to launch in October 2019, but the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) obtained a temporary injunction. It considered Telegram's actions to violate US securities laws.

In the end, Durov promised to return 72% of the attracted money immediately, and promised to give 110% of the invested funds to those who were patient by April 30. Investors, mainly from Russia, agreed to Durov's terms and were satisfied. The brothers found the money, the financial issue was settled. For the time being, the cryptocurrency project was put aside.

But the idea of "marrying" the messenger's nearly billion-strong audience with cryptocurrency was too attractive to refuse. And in September 2023, Durov presented the TON blockchain, in particular the Toncoin cryptocurrency, which, according to him, was planned to be used on a regular basis by businesses and developers in Telegram. The cryptocurrency was created by an open community of developers. As a result, the Durovs gave birth to a monster.

TON is not just a cryptocurrency, but also a set of services: proxy servers and a domain name system, a marketplace, a commission-free blockchain-based payment system, decentralized data storage, and applications for working with the service.

Even after Durov's arrest, TON did not fall out of the top 10 global cryptocurrencies, although it lost a little more than 20% of its value: shortly before the arrest, the coin was worth $6.8, and by the morning of August 29, it was worth $5.3.

ARREST BY OTHER PEOPLE'S HANDS
Against this background, a reasonable question arises: why is Washington angry with Durov?

Firstly, TON is built on the same libertarian philosophy as Telegram. It is inconvenient for the US and is not controlled by Washington. Pavel Durov reported this back in 2020, stating the world's dependence on the US in matters of finance and technology.

There has long been a legend in the world of cryptocurrency enthusiasts that Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, whose identity is unknown, is in fact nothing more than a cover for the CIA or another American structure that invented cryptocurrency. There is no direct confirmation of this, but in the Western press there are quotes from CIA Director William Burns that he inherited from his predecessors "a number of projects focused on cryptocurrency."

Regardless of whether the CIA invented the “bitcoin” or not, American intelligence agencies would certainly do everything possible and impossible to control any cryptocurrency, at least to understand who pays for what and when.

Secondly, cryptocurrencies - especially after Russia was disconnected from the global financial system with the blocking of banks and the ability to use freely convertible currencies - have become a widely used means of payment for settlements with unfriendly jurisdictions. And recently, they have also been legalized. And while Washington is fighting banks quite successfully (especially after Biden's decree of December 22, 2023), things are not so clear with cryptocurrencies.

The largest crypto exchange Binance left Russia under duress in September 2023 — this is how the US fought against circumventing sanctions through cryptocurrencies. But at the same time, and often unnoticed by the media, the US fought against cryptocurrency projects launched by Russians.

Cryptocurrency consultant Mikhail Zhukhovitsky counted six cases when the US directly or indirectly — through France and the UAE — destroyed Russian cryptocurrency projects, some of those arrested were extradited to the US. For example, the only developer of the Tornado Cash project who remained at large survived only because he was in Russia. And in the Bitzlato project, even coders and marketers were imprisoned, and they have been awaiting trial in pretrial detention for two years.

On August 25, Zhukhovitsky wrote that Pavel's arrest was the beginning of the destruction of his team, and on August 28, Politico reported that Nikolai Durov had been placed on the wanted list and was accused of refusing to cooperate with the Paris prosecutor's office for combating cybercrime in a case of forcing a minor to distribute "self-produced pornography."

Zhukhovitsky claims that the indictment for such cases is always prepared in the United States, and the arrests and detentions are carried out by others.

ONE AGAINST ALL
To put it simply, Durov's fate is unenviable: Paris, Brussels and Washington are against him. And the conclusions that come to mind from this story are extremely simple. Pavel Durov was let down by his own commitment to libertarianism, along with his belief that he could be above the clash of great powers.

One can maneuver between centers of power only for a certain period of time. Sooner or later one would have to make a decision, choosing a side that would allow one to preserve most of one's convictions, in order to live by the principle of "bend, but don't bend." The side is the "roof" in the person of the state.

When Canada detained Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's CFO and daughter of Huawei President Ren Zhengfei, at the request of the United States in 2018, the Chinese government stepped in and secured her release. Russia stood up for Bout, Yaroshenko, and Krasikov and also secured their release.

Durov ignored the "rules of the game" and did not want to choose a "roof". Now there is no one to stand up for him - and this is his personal tragedy.

Kupyansko-Svatovskoye direction: advance of the Russian Armed Forces in Sin'kovka and near Peschanoye.

Against the backdrop of the revival of the front line in several areas at once in the Kupyansk-Svatovsky direction, some advancement of the Russian Armed Forces is also observed.

– In the morning, footage appeared on the Internet of the hoisting of a flag on one of the remaining buildings on the northern outskirts of Sin'kovka. Judging by the calmness of the fighter with the flag, there are no enemy troops in the nearby houses, which means confident control over at least the north of the settlement. However, most of the village has already changed hands several times and is therefore heavily ruined.

– Another place of success of the Russian Armed Forces is the outskirts of Peschanoye, where Russian troops are advancing in forest belts to the north of the village and to the west of Tabayevka. Based on objective control footage, the enemy was driven out of height 169.2 at the intersection of several power lines to the north of the Peschanaya River.

- In other areas, the Russian Armed Forces are working to find and destroy enemy positions and equipment. In particular, another Ukrainian tank was hit west of Ivanovka.

– In this area, the enemy’s lines of defense are built along a chain of populated areas along the eastern bank of the Oskol with a relatively small extension of strong points in the gullies to the east, and therefore one can assume the emergence of a new lull, accompanied by attacks on the crossings across the river set up by the enemy.

- Donetsk Front. In Konstantinovka, fighting with the remnants of the Ukrainian garrison continues. A similar situation is in Krasnogorovka - fighting continues on the outskirts.

In Karlovka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are losing ground, but it is too early to talk about the complete liberation of the settlement.

In Selidovo, fighting is underway on the approaches to the settlement. In Grodovka, fighting continues, there are tactical successes of the Russian Armed Forces.

- Chasovoyarsk direction. Russian troops continue to slowly but surely take over the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the eastern part of the city. Measures to improve the positions of the Russian Armed Forces on the flanks are ongoing.

- Khar'kovFront. Heavy fighting continues in Volchansk and in the area of Glubokoe. The activity of Ukrainian counterattacks has noticeably decreased. LBS without significant changes.

- Kursk region. The enemy continues to try to advance deep into the Kursk region, but their intensity has noticeably decreased. However, the activity of engineering works carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine has increased. Ukrainian troops are trying to consolidate and dig in on the occupied territory, which speaks, first of all, of plans to hold the captured positions for a long time.

08:52 Deadly precision: anti-tank crews of the "winged infantry" destroyed Ukrainian Armed Forces militants during rotation in Kherson region

Journalists consider incident with niqab in Dagestan atypical
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] A woman whose niqab a man tried to remove due to a temporary ban by the muftiate has filed a police report, the lawyer reported. There are opponents of wearing the niqab in Dagestan, but such aggressive actions have not happened before, the journalists noted.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", social media users in Dagestan were outraged by a video of an aggressive passerby in Makhachkala attacking a woman in a niqab. The man motivated his attempts to remove her niqab by the muftiate's ban on this type of religious clothing.

Statements by representatives of the Islamic clergy on the issue of the fatwa on the niqab have sparked a debate about the presence of "radical" mosques in Dagestan and, on the contrary, those loyal to the muftiate. Disputes have also arisen about whether the ban is mandatory or advisory in nature. The "Caucasian Knot" reference " Fatwa on the ban on the niqab - a law or a recommendation " contains expert opinions on whether the ban of the Dagestan muftiate will be enforced.

Lawyer Davud Aliyev advises a girl in a niqab to contact the police due to the aggressive reaction of a man in Makhachkala.

"No one has the right to lynch law based on any convictions. Police officers are obliged to react immediately and stop illegal actions regardless of whether there is a statement or not. Employees of the executive branch must assess what happened and hold the perpetrator accountable. I recommend that the girl file a statement with the police, I remind you that we live in a state governed by the rule of law, our rights and obligations are protected by the Constitution of Russia," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to him, the man's behavior allowed the human dignity of a woman in a niqab to be humiliated.

"The qualification of the action is the prerogative of state bodies. If the girl committed any offense, she must answer within the framework of the current legislation. As for the qualification, this is Article 20.3.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation "Incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity." The punishment may be a fine of ten to twenty thousand rubles or arrest for up to fifteen days," he said.

Lawyer Aza Aliyeva told the "Caucasian Knot" that the woman in the niqab filed a complaint with the police.

"I represented Raisat's interests. We wrote a statement to almost all law enforcement agencies, but we did not receive any procedural action or even a response. We did not even receive a formal reply," she told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Dagestani journalist Milrad Fatullaev does not believe that the discussion of proposals to ban the wearing of the niqab in Russia is fueling aggressive sentiments against those who wear this clothing. "I haven't really noticed anything like that. My feeling is that about 30 percent of the population of Dagestan is against the niqab, about the same number is for it, and the rest are quite indifferent. As for the video itself, it seems to me that it looks more like some kind of provocation, including against the muftiate," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

If this is not a deliberate provocation, then we can say that this is just a rare manifestation of aggression.

According to him, even the temporary ban on wearing niqabs, introduced by the muftiate, does not provoke aggressive actions against women who wear them.

"This did not become a reason for aggression against women in niqab. If this is not a deliberate provocation, then we can say that this is simply a rare manifestation of aggression. But it still seems to me that this was done by some opponents of the muftiate. They need such a fuss the most," he noted.

Another Dagestani journalist, who wished to remain anonymous, believes that the discussion of proposals to ban the wearing of the niqab is fueling aggressive sentiment against those who wear this clothing in non-Muslim regions of Russia, but not in Dagestan.

"Such discussions fuel aggressive sentiment. We can look at the problem in two dimensions - in the all-Russian dimension and the Caucasus dimension. It is clear that in the first case, religious clothing associated with Islam causes irritation and conflict. Therefore, when a girl in a niqab walks through Moscow or St. Petersburg, she, of course, causes aggression among the local population. As for the Caucasus and Dagestan, in particular, there is no such widespread aggression here. Yes, there is a significant percentage of the population that is against wearing the niqab, but there is no aggressive display on their part," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In his opinion, the introduction of a temporary ban on wearing niqabs by the muftiate was provoked not so much by society as by the authorities.

"Because there is an understanding that this is an action coordinated with the federal center, therefore entire campaigns to ban wearing can come from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan. For example, they can detain girls in niqabs, check their documents, register them, and so on. But there was no aggression from the general population. The incident in Makhachkala is a one-time scandal," he said.

Recall that after the militant attacks in Dagestan, the issue of banning the wearing of religious clothing was raised in the republics of the North Caucasus. On July 3, the Muftiate of the republic introduced a temporary ban on wearing niqabs, which is valid until a new theological opinion. The publication of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan on the search for a militant in a niqab on August 9  looks dubious  against the backdrop of the unfolding campaign against religious clothing, social network users noted.

Security forces point to FSIN miscalculations after hostage taking in Surovikino and Rostov-on-Don
Direct Translation via Google Translation. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] There is a shortage of staff in the FSIN institutions, and those who are there work long hours for modest salaries, which contributes to the development of corruption and violation of safety rules for personal gain, emphasized the security officials interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", commenting on the hostage-taking in Surovikino and Rostov-on-Don. The oppression of Muslims is practiced in almost all colonies in Muslim regions, added human rights activists.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on August 23, in Penal Colony No. 19 in Surovikino, four prisoners (natives of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan), declaring themselves supporters of the "Islamic State", took 12 people hostage. Three employees of the colony were killed, another later died in the hospital, his death was reported by the Volgograd Region Health Committee. Later, Kommersant, citing the same agency, reported that another employee of the colony died in the hospital, this information was not officially confirmed.

As a result of the assault, the participants in the seizure were killed. In Penal Colony No. 19 in Surovikino, where the prisoners took the employees of the colony hostage, the living conditions are extremely poor, and provocations against Muslims are practiced, which could have led to a riot, said human rights activist Igor Nagavkin. Human rights activist Anna Karetnikova and journalist Vyacheslav Lemkus are sure that the reason for the incident was the dehumanization of the FSIN system. The Federal Penitentiary Service Directorate for the Volgograd Region called the data on poor living conditions and oppression of Muslims fake, without providing evidence to support their words.

The hostage-takings in Surovikino and Rostov have demonstrated systemic problems with ensuring security in FSIN institutions, says Sergei Goncharov, president of the Association of Veterans of the Alpha Anti-Terrorist Unit.

"Prisoners who are serving time for terrorism and extremism must be kept in special zones and not come into contact with other prisoners who have committed ordinary criminal offenses. Their contacts and communication must not be allowed. And the operational unit must work with them day and night, monitor them. Unfortunately, not a single colony has this practice for two reasons.

Firstly, the FSIN is short of about 35 percent of employees throughout Russia, and secondly, FSIN employees do not receive a large enough salary to support their families, and they use different methods to earn money. For example, they allow prisoners to use the phone for money. This is a systemic problem in the FSIN, so there is nothing surprising or unexpected in the hostage-taking in two colonies. As long as the above-mentioned problems exist, such incidents will happen," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to him, the colonies buy jammers, but, as a rule, they are ineffective. "These colonies had jammers, but in some cases they simply do not work, and in others they are ineffective. But the jammers are just one episode showing the fact of the problem in the colonies. I emphasize once again that the problem is not in the jammers, but in the systemic problems and the unwillingness to fix them. Replacing one head of the FSIN with another will not solve these systemic problems," he said.

TODAY, THERE IS AN UNDERMINING OF PERSONNEL WORK IN THE FSIN SYSTEM
Russian Interior Ministry Colonel  Amir Kolov  does not believe that there was a surprise effect in the hostage taking in Russian colonies.

"In the hostage-taking in Russian prisons, it must be said, there are no surprise effects. If the current situation in the Russian FSIN system continues, we may face not only hostage-taking and reprisals against FSIN employees, but also more sophisticated and serious crimes and actions by Russian prisoners. The most important circumstance is that today there is an undermining of personnel work in the FSIN system. Thus, along with the monstrous theft of funds, we are talking about billions of rubles allocated from the Russian budget to ensure the functioning of the FSIN system, committed by the former head of the FSIN Alexander Reimer ( accused of embezzlement in the amount of about 3 billion rubles, - note of the "Caucasian Knot" ) and other adventurers, whom the Russian special services stubbornly do not want to bring to justice, there is a colossal shortage of personnel in the FSIN system.

According to available information, in the FSIN units, especially in the prisons of central Russia, there is a shortage of more than 50 percent of employees, in whose responsibilities include directly ensuring security in places of detention," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

As a result of low salaries and long overtime hours, FSIN employees often violate safety rules for personal gain.

"At the same time, FSIN employees perform double and triple workloads with overtime, but receive a meager salary of 25 thousand rubles per month. At the same time, there is also no other motivation, there is absolutely no professional and moral ideology or even basic generally accepted human concepts.

All this taken together contributes to the development of corruption, criminal conspiracy and organized crime in the prison and other FSIN systems, as a result of which any prohibited items, including weapons, can be brought into prison. This is also evidenced by the reprisals against FSIN employees in prisons in Volgograd, Kursk, Rostov-on-Don and other regions of Russia," he emphasized.

In places of deprivation of liberty, instead of ensuring the system’s activity to correct behavior and educate law-abiding and honest people, Muslims are prohibited from praying, rugs, rosaries and other attributes of Islam are taken away, and unjustified, illegal punishments are applied.

According to him, violations of Muslim rights and abuse of them in colonies lead to disastrous consequences.

"Along with the above circumstances that contribute to riots and reprisals against employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation, it should be noted that in Russian prisons, employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation commit bullying, insults and other mass violations of constitutional and other human rights based on their national origin and religion, especially in relation to Muslims.

In places of deprivation of liberty, instead of ensuring the system's activities to correct behavior and educate law-abiding and honest people, Muslims are prohibited from praying, rugs, rosaries and other attributes of Islam are taken away, unjustified, illegal punishments are applied and other arbitrariness is committed, which provokes prisoners to protest actions, creating conditions for radicals and marginalized people to manipulate prisoners who have been subjected to unfair and illegal actions by prison employees," he explains.

"There was oppression of Muslims. When they were placed in punishment cells, their Korans and rugs were taken away from them. Although according to the Constitution and laws, these items are allowed when kept in punishment cells and punishment cells," human rights activist Igor Nagavkin previously told the "Caucasian Knot."

As for the jammers that are purchased by the leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation, they are not always effective, Kolov is sure.

"It should be noted that this equipment is purchased in China. Firstly, these jammers are not always in good working order, and secondly, they do not cover the frequencies of all communication operators at the same time. At the same time, it is not difficult for prisoners to find out which frequency is switched off or working on which days. There are also cases when prison management, in collusion with prisoners and for corrupt gains, switches off jammers, switching them on only during inspections by control and supervisory bodies," he noted.

The fact that the participants in the seizure were imprisoned for drugs and murder, and in the colony became supporters of radical ideology is a common occurrence, believes the head of the Sova Research Center*, Alexander Verkhovsky.

"This used to happen all the time. Actually, for all the years that the topic of persecuting radical Islamists has existed, for so many years I remember conversations about how they have a bad influence on other prisoners and convert them to their ideology. And who are these other prisoners? These are prisoners who have committed ordinary criminal offenses. This problem has always existed, it has not become systemic now," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The hostage-taking took place at a meeting of the disciplinary commission, where cases of malicious violators are considered, among other things. The participants in the hostage-taking declared themselves supporters of the terrorist organization "Islamic State", banned in Russia by the court, according to  the  "Caucasian Knot" report.

According to him, supporters of the Islamic State always point to the oppression of Muslims as one of the reasons for their actions.

"We don't know how things were with the oppression of Muslims in this colony. It's different everywhere. It's clear that religious life in a colony cannot be full-fledged. If there is some specific arbitrariness on the part of the FSIN employees, such as, for example, shortening the beard, banning namaz, then, yes, this can become a reason for a riot. But on the other hand, it seems to me that any supporter of the "Islamic State" will say that one of the reasons for some acts is the oppression of Muslims. This is part of their ideology. It would be strange to hear anything else from them," he noted.

He also added that the recruitment of people by supporters of the Islamic State** occurs everywhere, including in the colonies.

"I think that an ISIS member who ends up in a colony can recruit prisoners there. But they do this outside as well. It seems to me that there is no particular difference. There is a danger that in the colonies there could be some kind of fusion of ISIS members** with some organized criminal groups, but I have not heard of such a thing yet," Verkhovsky said.

The hostage-taking in Surovikino  was the second in the Southern Federal District in three months. It was preceded by a similar incident that occurred in mid-June in the Rostov pretrial detention center. In both cases, the attackers declared themselves supporters of the "Islamic State". The details were collected by the "Caucasian Knot" in the report " Hostage Taking in the Volgograd Colony and Rostov Pretrial Detention Center in the Summer of 2024 ".

The fact that the participants in the seizure were imprisoned for drugs and murder, and in the colony became supporters of radical ideology, is not becoming a systemic phenomenon, believes the human rights activist of the Memorial Human Rights Center.

"This cannot be a systemic phenomenon. In colonies, in order to survive, people must join some group. For Muslims, such a group can only be a Muslim group, and in Arabic this is a jamaat. It should not be and does not have a radical ideology," he told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to him, Muslims are persecuted in almost all colonies, but not everywhere do they resort to capturing FSIN employees.

"The reasons that the participants of the seizure in this colony named, they exist almost everywhere in colonies located in non-Islamic regions. In this colony, a small group managed to do this. But this does not happen everywhere," he said.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
How California's Illegal Marijuana Industry Ruins Houses
[Epoch Times Premium Reports] Illegal cannabis cultivation operations, or "grows," are a multi-billion-dollar-a-year industry in California, dominated by a mix of transnational criminal organizations that authorities believe are symbiotic, if adversarial.
Lengthy, and likely behind a paywall, but you'll get the idea.
When agents serve a warrant, they often find human trafficking victims, automatic weapons, booby traps and, increasingly, banned toxic pesticides smuggled from China. Buildings contaminated by illegal grows are dangerous because the harsh pesticides that growers use permeate every surface - ceilings, walls, floors, vents, and drywall.

Toxic black mold blooms in the 75 percent humidity needed to grow marijuana. The massive amounts of water and electricity required to sustain an operation can result in structural damage to vents and sunken floors, overloaded transformers, and corroded wiring just itching for a fire.

Working and middle-class families migrate to bedroom communities such as Lancaster, where you can still find a single-family home with a backyard for about $500,000—about half the median price in Los Angeles, according to Redfin. You may find one for even less if a grower has been busted and is offloading at a discount.

Labor and sex trafficking, animal abuse, gun violence and rampant environmental crimes have long been associated with illegal marijuana cultivation.

The prevalence of indoor grows and collateral effects on residential buildings are not new or limited to California. In 2017, Denver police estimated that one in 10 homes were being used to cultivate, leaving the city with a dangerous mold problem.

It may seem counterintuitive that indoor operations are increasingly relying on contraband pesticides, but the lack of natural predators inside means spider mites, aphids, mildew, and black rot or fungus can easily take hold, according to Josh Wurzer, CEO and cofounder of SC Labs, a cannabis testing and research lab.

"Once you get a single fungus spore or any tiny spider mite into a grow and it starts to proliferate, they take root and it takes off," he said. "There are no birds to eat them or natural controls to keep pests in check like there are outdoors."

"All kinds of chemicals are being found. The ones from China, they’re not even in any chemical library," Katz said, noting that they’re having to send samples to an "extremely expensive" lab in Sacramento. "The EPA got involved. We’ve found all kinds of nerve agent pesticides, and they’re not listed in any of these libraries for the machines that read this stuff."

The fact that these compounds are inhaled—either by unsuspecting consumers who think they’re smoking regulated cannabis or by unsuspecting residents who move into a former grow house—exacerbates the harm.

As Wurzer said, when the plant is inhaled rather than eaten, it goes directly into the lungs, bypassing many of the body’s natural defense mechanisms, such as the digestive system and the liver, which filter toxins.

"Any pesticide deemed harmful on a food crop in the U.S. would be extra harmful when it’s inhaled," Wurzer said.

Tom Lackey, a California assembly member whose district includes the Antelope Valley, thinks the dangers are underestimated, in part because of a prevailing misconception that "it’s just pot."

He points to the fact that black market marijuana comprises some 80 percent of total sales in California, , and licensed growers pressured by high taxes and the cost of compliance are taking shortcuts to survive.

The uneasy mix of crime syndicates running illicit marijuana in California, according to law enforcement officials, includes Chinese and Hmong groups, Mexican cartels and Latin American street gangs, and Chaldean and Armenian organizations.

But according to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Mexican cartels and Chinese groups continue to dominate the state’s black market. And in recent years, federal investigations have unearthed how Chinese crime networks have risen to global prominence, in part by laundering cartel drug money.

"The fentanyl, the money laundering, the marijuana grows—it’s all connected," Leland Lazarus, associate director of national security at Florida International University’s Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy, told The Epoch Times in an email.

These syndicates, Lazarus said, typically employ illegal Chinese migrants, who are often subjected to forced labor or criminality, terrible working conditions, and even sexual violence.

#1  Two NPS walk into a bar and exclaim, you must all stay very afraid.

"Black mold blooms in the 75 percent humidity needed to grow marijuana."

What is the average humidity of outdoor SoCal?

Scary to think that the outdoor natural humidity of southern california without a grow operation is still enough to bloom black mold. *shudders* How will we not die.

Marijuana and sex trafficking - OMG !!! *lmao*
Because SoCal hippies are known to pick up a sack of hydro and a hooker. Maybe an eight ball and a hooker or two, but a bag of smoke and a hooker - come on, this article is ridiculous.

#2  I'm afraid it's not, mossomo. Yeah, the hippie who grows his own in his back yard is not much of a problem. But it isn't just the hippie. With illegal immigration we get all kinds of bad people from all kinds of bad countries. The hippie is not a hardcore criminal but some of these people are. They're not growing their own, they're into producing mass quantities so they can make big bucks and they don't care who gets hurt.

These days you can smell burning maryhoochie wherever you go. But it doesn't smell like it used to smell in the old days. People tell me that's because it's been bred to be so much more potent than the cheap Mexican weed we used to get. But I dunno. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not even the same drug at all.

My bottom line: If the government says it's OK I don't want anything to do with it. They said the covid vaccine was OK too.

Home Front: Politix
Lines of Departure 2-2: The Choice isn’t Trump or Harris
[X] (Widest possible dissemination authorized and encouraged.)
Copyright © 2024, Thomas P. Kratman

No, no; the choice is between Trump and a closed oligarchy that does NOT have your interests in mind. In short, whatever you want to do, you _cannot_ vote Harris. Oh, yes, you can cast your vote beside her name, but she is not the front runner; she is a front, just as her putative boss, Joe Biden, was.

Go back to the year 2020, the year when, under cover of COVID, Joe Biden ran for the presidency from his basement. Why did he do that? Fear of COVID? That was the claim, of course, but the movers and shakers of the country, especially the democratic ones, did a very impressive job of demonstrating that COVID was just not that impressive. Sure, during the George Floyd riots, they might sic the police on people sitting on their front porches, shooting those same people with paintballs. But for themselves? Please; it was party city throughout the pandemic for anyone well connected enough. And for the rioters? They were pretty much hands off.

So much for COVID.

Flash forward to the Trump-Biden debate. There it became fairly obvious that the sitting president was...mostly not there anymore. I write this not with contempt but with a degree of sympathy; that fate awaits most of us, with time. More importantly, is there any reason to believe he was fully there when his handlers kept him locked in the basement during the 2020 campaign? There really isn’t. Moreover, the people who would swear that he was are the very same people who were telling us that he was sharp as a tack right up until the debate and for some time after; their word is worthless.

And then we have the pattern of conduct, the misguidance and mismanagement from the Afghanistan withdrawal debacle through the collapse of our southern border. It is not just hard, it is impossible, to identify a single thing that has gone well for the United States in between. Especially has the economy been a disaster, and not one that the smoke and mirrors of the Democratic Party and their lapdogs of the press has been very successful in hiding. That pattern is consistent and consistently horrifying. That pattern says very strongly that the Joe Biden of the debate was the same man who stayed in his basement in 2020.

He's been this way all along.

Then, too, we have the palace coup that drove Biden from the 2024 race. Obviously, he did not decide that for himself, either.

Even so, even if Biden was incapable of doing much of anything on his own, or was not allowed to, decisions still were being made, to include decisions to do nothing, to include the decision to force him from the campaign. Who was making those decisions?

We don’t really know. Obama is a likely member of the junta — and, yes, clearly, it is a junta — as are the Clintons, both the rapist and Felonia von Pantsuit. I would suggest that the thirty-five or so members of the House and the five senators who publicly called on Biden to step aside are not members of the junta, but that those who likely gave them their marching orders, Schumer and Pelosi — who is never out of office even when out of office, are. Hakim Jeffries may well be. Garland probably is a member. Kagan may represent the left wing of the Supreme Court. Perhaps there are a few others.

Speaking of Kagan and the legal system, do but note that the supporters of the junta are the same people who will talk about the rule of law even as they prostitute the law to wage lawfare against anyone — Trump and the J6 protesters, principally — who tries to supercede them and return the country to an actual republic.

It is, by the way, unclear and I think rather unlikely that Kamala Harris is a member of that junta, any more than Joe Biden was. This, quite despite her holding views that are not easily distinguished from, say, Marx or Engles....or Lenin...or Mao...or perhaps — we cannot say for sure and when we are sure it will also be too late — Pol Pot or Stalin.

Soros? No, I don’t think so. He’s pretty distasteful from all perspectives. Now does the junta consult with him? Regularly, I am sure.

But the names don’t matter and will probably never be known for certain. The only name we’ll be allowed to see is that of Kamala Harris, the frontwoman for the junta that has been telling Joe Biden what to do for more than four years. And which will be telling Kamala Harris what to do for another four to eight, if they’re allowed to.

Just think of it, Franklin Delano Roosevelt had a bit over three terms; Obama and the junta may have as many as five. Hell, they may have an infinite number, if they succeed in destroying the Republic.

"Bu’, bu’, bu’, muh democracy!"

I have some bad news for you, the people moaning about the loss of democracy are the same people who decided to simply install as their nominee a woman who is thoroughly disliked, even within their party, whose previous run for the nomination was a disaster, who has had, in other words, not a single vote cast for her this year, and a paltry few in 2020. In short, let me suggest to you a more modern, more accurate definition of democracy in 21st century America:

Democracy, n. The unlimited and uninterrupted rule of the junta that looks after the interests of the vile and already filthy rich kleptocrats, corrupt bureaucrats, quasi-literate journalists, drooling pedophiles, academic lunatics, soulless and stupid entertainers, and other assorted human garbage on the inside of the Democratic Party.

If that’s the definition of "democracy," and it now is, and that is what you want, wouldn’t you be happier in, say, China or perhaps North Korea?

But to finish with the same point we started with, which should be much clearer now, it is impossible to actually vote for Harris. The most you can do is vote for a junta, and, indeed, a junta that bears close resemblance to the Politburo that ran the Soviet Union or the one that is now running China, an oligarchy the members of which loathe actual democracy and don’t really hide that they do.

Court slaps travel ban on 14 ex-ministers, lawmakers
[NEWAGEBD] The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court on Thursday imposed an international travel ban on 14 former ministers and politicians of the ousted Awami League government in connection with allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

Judge Mohammed Ash Shams Joglul Hossain passed the order following a petition submitted by Anti-Corruption Commission deputy director Abu Hena Ashiqur Rahman, said ACC public prosecutor Mahamud Hossain Jahangir.

'Following the order, they cannot leave the country unless the restriction is lifted, he added.

The graft suspects are trying to flee the country, the ACC in its petition said, adding that travel bans are needed to prevent them from leaving the country for the sake of a fair probe.

Former health minister Zahid Maleque, former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, former education minister Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder, former industries minister Narul Majid Mahmud Humayun, former state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Mojumder, former shipping minister Shajahan Khan, former food minister Kamrul Islam, former politicians Mohammad Salim Uddin (Nogaon-3), Mamunur Rashid Kiron (Noakhali-3), Kujendra Lal Tripura (Khagrachari), Kazim uddin Ahmed (Mymensing-11), Noor E Alam Chowdhury (Madaripur-1), and Ziaur Rahman (Chapainawabganj-2).

ACC officials said that there were various corruption allegations against the 14 former ministers and politicians, including amassing illegal wealth and money laundering charges.

The Anti-Corruption Commission, meanwhile, on Thursday decided to conduct inquiries against a minister and a politician of the ousted Awami League government over allegations of amassing illegal wealth.

They are former railway minister Zillul Hakim and former politician Tanveer Imam [Sirajganj-4].

The decision was taken in a meeting of the ACC at its office, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

Israel says killed Islamic Jihad operative who ''recruited Palestinians for Hezbollah''
[NAHARNET] The Israeli military said it has killed a "significant" Paleostinian Islamic Jihad

Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? The Israeli air force "struck and eliminated... a significant terrorist in the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization's operations division, in the area of the Syrian-Lebanese border," an Israeli military statement said Wednesday.

The operative was "responsible for the development of the Islamic Jihad's operational plans in Syria and Lebanon", the statement said, adding he had played "a central role" in recruiting Paleostinians for Hezbollah, which is also an ally of Hamas

Ukrainian perspective: Operation in Kursk region
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] 17:27 Zelensky reported that he held a meeting with the military command, at which they discussed, among other things, the operation in the Kursk region. "The tasks of the operation are being implemented," the president said.

12:15 The Ukrainian Armed Forces have struck a railway in the city of Lgov in the Kursk region, Russian publics write. The railway track near the Lgov-Kievsky station was damaged.

11:34 Russian troops have counterattacked in the Kursk region and driven the Ukrainian Armed Forces out of the village of Korenevo, reports Bild open data analysis expert Julian Repke. According to him, the line of combat contact currently runs roughly along the eastern outskirts of this settlement. South of Korenevo, the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently occupied the village of Krasnooktyabrskoye on the bank of the Seim River. Thus, even without taking Korenevo, Ukrainian forces have completely closed the eastern border of the cauldron, in which about 3,000 Russian soldiers have found themselves. From the south and west, it is blocked by the state border, from the north - by the Seim River.

China-Japan-Koreas
The Chinese Know No One's In Charge-PLA Chinese General Confronted Sullivan Just Before Surprise Xi Meeting-. Sullivan looked nervous and unsettled throughout the whole encounter, with Zhang confident and beaming.
[ZeroHedge] Chinese leader Xi Jinping met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan on Thursday at the end of the latter's three day trip to Beijing, which is a first such trip for a sitting US national security adviser in eight years.

But the most interesting and tense moment came just before that, when Sullivan met one of China's vice chairs of the Central Military Commission, Gen. Zhang Youxia. The top general confronted Sullivan on growing US support for Taiwan's military. Zhang informed Sullivan that reunification of Taiwan with the mainland is "the mission and responsibility" of the Chinese PLA military and that it won't be deterred. Sullivan looked nervous and unsettled throughout the whole encounter, with Zhang confident and beaming.

"China demands that the United States stop military collusion between the U.S. and Taiwan, stop arming Taiwan and stop spreading false narratives about Taiwan," the statement issued by the defense ministry said.

Sullivan meekly opted for a diplomatic and conciliatory tone in response, saying "it is rare that we have the opportunity to have this kind of exchange" and underscored "the need for us to responsibly manage U.S.-China relations."

A follow-up White House also statement sought to emphasize the two sides had "recognized the progress in sustained, regular military-military communications over the past 10 months."

As for statements in the wake of Sullivan's rare meeting with President Xi, there were the usual expressions of managing competition and avoiding direct conflict:

"We believe that competition with China does not have to lead to conflict or confrontation. The key is responsible management through diplomacy," he told reporters at a news conference shortly before leaving Beijing.

"While great changes have taken place in the two countries and in China-U.S. relations, China’s commitment to the goal of a stable, healthy and sustainable China-U.S. relationship remains unchanged," Xi said.

'Injured and aggressive' water buffalo on the loose in Iowa town; police warn residents to stay away
[FoxNews] A water buffalo is on the loose in an Iowa town, and police are warning people that it is injured and aggressive.

Police in the Des Moines suburb of Pleasant Hill responded Saturday to a call about an animal in the road. It turned out to be a water buffalo, and the owner told police the animal was aggressive.

That proved to be the case when police and animal rescue and control groups began trying to contain the water buffalo and return it to the owner's property. Those efforts "led the animal to show its aggressiveness toward Pleasant Hill officers which resulted in one round being fired from a shotgun, injuring the animal," police said in a Facebook posting on Monday.

The maimed water buffalo got away. Police used drones and ATVs to try and find it and brought in people with expertise in water buffaloes. As of Tuesday morning, the animal was still on the lam in the town of about 11,000 residents.

September, 1942: First Battle with German Tigers
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from a V Kontakte post on the page of GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR

September 1942 was a good deal earlier for the Tiger I tank in WWII on the Eastern Front than I had read before. Paul Carrell (Nom du pen of German SS major Schmidt) had said as much in his seminal book "Scorched Earth."

[VK] "Tiger" tanks took part in combat for the first time. After arriving at the Mga station (southeast of Leningrad), the tanks were immediately transferred to the front line. At 10:00 the platoon arrived in the forest, at the battalion's location.

Around 11:00, the order was given to prepare for the move. The battalion commander, Major Richard Märker, was the first to go in his command Tiger. Soon, with the support of the infantry, the tanks reached the forward positions and began shelling the defending Soviet troops. In a short time, they managed to push the Russians back and go on the offensive. Unfortunately for the Germans, the swampy ground hampered the maneuvers of the heavy Tigers. Taking advantage of this, the Soviet troops opened aimed fire on the huge targets.

The first battle was unsuccessful for the Tigers - one was hit (the engine was damaged by a shell hit), three other vehicles managed to reach the Soviet positions damaged, eventually got stuck in the swampy terrain and stopped. Then the Germans were able to evacuate three tanks.

At night, all three tanks were successfully towed to repair shops, and each Tiger had to be pulled through a swamp with the help of three 18-ton tractors (probably FAMO SdKfz9). The fourth was stripped of its equipment and blown up (at the end of November 1942). The tank was knocked out with a 122mm hull gun A-19 model 1931. This time, the Germans managed to keep their tank a secret.

The tragic beginning of the Tigers' combat career is largely due to Adolf Hitler personally, who, without listening to any objections, rushed the introduction of new equipment into service. As a result, the Tigers were used not only at the wrong time, but also absolutely senselessly - in small groups, in terrain absolutely unfavorable for their weight. In his memoirs, Guderian writes with bitterness and irritation that Hitler was simply eager to test the new "miracle weapon" as soon as possible.

As a result, at the end of 1942, the powerful Tigers were assigned a completely secondary task: as part of the 502nd heavy tank battalion, to launch a small attack on a difficult section of swampy terrain near Leningrad. The tank's next combat use would not be until January 1943.
AKA a fire brigade.

#1  The Russians were relentless. Many German tanks failed mechanically, transmissions mainly. Russia has produced many tanks to field. T-34 was very successful. Germans couldn't understand how the Russia troops could sustain such heavy losses. Russians kept supplies going and out produced the Germans. Ukraine is repeat of this history. Ammo, supplies, troops all supply lines were chronically deficient. In war it seems those who manufacture and supply needs effectively will prevail.

It won't be possible to prevent a Russian attack on the Anglo-Saxon world
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[NewsFront] "Get it into your head: Putin is going to get even with us. We must be prepared for the inevitable" - this is how the article by former British Defense Secretary and failed NATO Secretary General Ben Wallace ends

Petr Akopov, RIA

What is “inevitable”? That “Putin will soon turn his war machine against Britain” – this is the headline of an article by a retired minister in The Telegraph. If you take only the headline and the last paragraph, you might think that we have before us a typical example of Russophobic propaganda and hysteria: the Russians will not stop in Ukraine, then they will attack the Baltics, Poland, Romania, and then they will go to Berlin. We hear all this from the mouths of the Atlanticists (including very high-ranking ones) and the Kyiv leaders – now Britain must also prepare for the Russian threat, it’s all clear.

However, Ben Wallace's pathos is completely different - he is sure that Russia is going to take revenge on Britain not for the supply of missiles to Ukraine, but for the Crimean War: "The people at the head of Russia are rewriting history, correcting the humiliation experienced at the end of the Cold War, and settling scores from a century ago. Although Russia is a master at humiliating itself, we must understand that, according to Putin, the root of all its troubles is not even the United States, but Britain."

"In Putin's warped worldview, it was we who started the Crimean War, which ended in defeat for the Tsars, it was we who orchestrated the rise of Hitler, it was we who supported the counter-revolution, and it was our espionage that brought down the Soviet Union. Putin has Britain in his sights."

That's how it is. Does it turn out that Putin is like Danila Bagrov's brother with his "You bastards will answer to me for Sevastopol!", only he is addressing not the Westerners, but the British, and he is referring to Sevastopol in 1855? But only the sensitive ex-Minister of Defense hears this threat and is in a hurry to warn his compatriots, instilling in them the need to understand Putin's "true motivation". Otherwise, there will be trouble - for Britain.

The captain of the Scots Guards (Wallace retired with this rank) has recalled the Crimean War more than once: the day before the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, he said that the Scots Guards "kicked Tsar Nicholas's ass and could do it again." The Crimean War is indeed the only example of direct British aggression against Russia, but our score against the foggy island is far from exhausted by it, as well as by what Wallace listed. There is also the murder of Paul I - to prevent his alliance with Napoleon against Britain. And the murder of Grigory Rasputin - to keep Russia from a mythical separate peace with Germany, which in reality opened the way to the catastrophe of February 1917. Or the combination played out by London to pit Germany and Russia against each other in the First World War. Our score of grievances is great - and our memory is good. But this is not just a score against Britain - past or present.

This is a bill to the Anglo-Saxon elite and financial oligarchs, to those forces that made London the world's financial capital and the United Kingdom the first model and prototype of a global military, financial and commercial empire. For these forces, Russia has always been a mortal enemy and threat - not because we set our goal to destroy them (we did not even during the Soviet years), but because we occupy a key place in Eurasia - a territory without control over which it is impossible to build a global empire.

The Russian Cossacks did not intend to go to India, but theoretically they could do so - and this was enough for the British to participate in the murder of our emperor. Russia did not threaten the British colonies, did not claim to expand its influence, but theoretically it could withdraw from the war with Germany, which England needed to curb German ambitions - and this was enough to support the conspiracy against the tsar in February 1917.

Britain has always considered itself entitled to interfere in our internal affairs and has never disdained anything. Neither the incitement of mountain separatism during the Caucasian War of the 19th century, nor the support of Ukraine during the current conflict.

The British elite - and its continuation in the form of the American - have always considered Russia more an object than a subject of relations. In the post-Soviet years, this confidence became absolute - and the Atlanticists have set their sights on the geopolitical separation of Ukraine from Russia, that is, the real dismemberment of Russian civilization.

Does Putin understand this? Of course. Is he going to take revenge on Britain? No. Because now the center of decision-making is dispersed across the Western world, on both sides of the Atlantic, with an emphasis on the Western one. Russia is taking revenge on the entire Anglo-Saxon elite - first by repelling their attacks, holding out and restoring its unity. And then it will redouble its efforts to build a new world order, that is, dismantling the entire Anglo-Saxon globalist project, the destruction of which will bury not only Britain, but also the United States.

So Captain Ben Wallace can warn his compatriots as much as he wants that Putin has them in his sights, but he still won’t be able to stop the Russian strike. Because it won’t come from the air or the sea, but from the accumulated energy of discontent with the Anglo-Saxons throughout the world. And our contribution to this retaliatory strike will be large, but certainly not exceeding what has been done against us in previous centuries.

Louisiana Gov Jeff Landry bans critical race theory in public schools
Even if it were not racist in concept and execution, it seems to me that theory of this sort is college level stuff, not appropriate at the primary and much of the secondary level.
Gotta start the brainwashing early
[PostaMillennial] Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed an executive order on Tuesday banning Critical Race Theory (CRT) from being taught in K-12 public schools, saying these teachings were "divisive
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
" and had no place in Louisiana classrooms.

The governor's office wrote in a blurb, "Critical Race Theory (CRT) includes divisive teachings that instruct students to view life through the lens of race and victimhood. Governor Landry believes students should be learning about American exceptionalism and the principles embodied in State and Federal Constitutions of the United States of America that recognize the equal value of every individual."

"This executive order is a much-needed sigh of relief for parents and students across our state, especially as kids are heading back to school," said Landry. "Teaching children that they are currently or destined to be oppressed or to be an oppressor based on their race and origin is wrong and has no place in our Louisiana classrooms. I am confident that under Dr. Brumley's leadership our education system will continue to head in the right direction, prioritizing American values and common-sense teachings."

Republican-controlled states across the US have pushed for similar measures. In 2021, both Florida and Idaho approved legislation that banned critical race theory from entering state-funded classrooms.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said at the time, "Critical Race Theory teaches kids to hate our country and to hate each other. It is state-sanctioned racism and has no place in Florida schools."

‘Almost identical' dinosaur tracks found in Brazil and Africa.
[FoxWeather] More than 260 dinosaur footprints discovered in Brazil and Cameroon provide further evidence that South America and Africa were once connected as part of a giant continent millions of years ago, according to a recent study.

Scientists estimated that the footprints were originally made 120 million years ago about 600 miles apart, or roughly the distance between Dallas and Nashville, on the supercontinent known as Gondwana.

Ukrainian General Staff confirms the loss of the first F-16 fighter
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] During the military operations, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) lost the first F-16 fighter, the press service of the General Staff of the AFU reported on August 29.

According to the agency's representatives, the aircraft were used to repel a missile attack by Russian servicemen. During the operation, contact with one of the pilots was lost; it was later discovered that the fighter had crashed.

“A special commission of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, working in the area where the plane crashed, is intended to determine the causes of the accident,” the publication states.

The Wall Street Journal reported that one of the F-16 fighters transferred to Ukraine crashed on August 26. According to the source, initial data indicates that the plane was not shot down. Most likely, the crash occurred due to pilot error.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, an informed source had previously reported that the Russian Armed Forces may have destroyed the first American F-16 fighter jet in Ukraine during a strike on the Starokostiantyniv airfield in the Khmelnytsky region. The aircraft were on the airfield territory during the strikes. They then took off and returned two to three hours later. One of the F-16s may have been destroyed during a second strike on the airfield.

On August 4, The Economist reported that the Kiev regime had received the first ten F-16 fighters. According to it, the Ukrainian Armed Forces should receive another ten such aircraft by the end of the year. By the end of 2025, Kiev should have 79 such aircraft.

American political scientist Mark Sleboda reported that the F-16s transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces are significantly outdated. He added that these aircraft in Ukraine will have to confront the Russian air defense system, which is the best in the world. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that the supply of American fighters will not become a "magic pill " for the Kiev regime that can influence the course of military operations.

First F-16 Crashed. Causes Under Investigation

An F-16 fighter jet crashed while repelling a large-scale attack by Russian missiles and drones on Ukrainian cities on August 26.

Just three weeks after the first American-made aircraft arrived in Ukraine, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the loss of the first of them, the pilot died in the crash. The cause of the disaster is being investigated.

VERSIONS OF THE CRASH
"During the air battle, the F-16 aircraft demonstrated their high efficiency, with onboard weapons shooting down four enemy cruise missiles," the General Staff said in a statement. "During the approach to the next target, contact was lost with one of the aircraft. As it turned out later, the aircraft crashed, and the pilot died."

Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a source, that the plane was not shot down by enemy fire, but most likely crashed due to pilot error.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that on Monday, August 26, Kyiv used F-16s for the first time to shoot down Russian missiles and drones.

The Ukrainian Air Force then reported 236 air attack weapons — 127 missiles and 109 attack drones — with which Russian troops attacked Ukraine. They managed to shoot down 102 missiles, including one Kinzhal, and 99 drones.

The Ukrainian military command is considering various versions of the crash of the F-16 fighter, including pilot error and "friendly fire" from its own air defense, the Ukrainian service of the Voice of America reported, citing an unnamed representative of the Ukrainian Air Force.

"But the exact reasons will only be known after the investigation is completed," journalists quote their source.

DEATH OF THE PILOT
Lutsk Mayor Igor Polischuk reported the death of pilot Oleksiy Mes this week. Following the news of the loss of the F-16, the Ukrainian Air Force confirmed that Mes died on August 26 while repelling a massive Russian combined missile and air strike.

Mes was one of the first Ukrainian pilots to undergo F-16 training. His call sign was Moonfish, and he frequently appeared in the media and visited Washington, lobbying for the fighters to be sent, the WSJ reports. The Air Force said the pilot killed three cruise missiles and one attack drone.

The news that one of Ukraine's few F-16s had been lost was a major blow to Kyiv, which had been asking for the jets for months before US President Joe Biden gave the green light to European countries to sell the fighters last year, the WSJ said.

The F-16 piloted by Aleksey ‘Moonfish’ Mes was hit by a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system due to discoordination between units.

#4  Highly possible it was blue on blue, just like it was highly possible it was lost to pilot inexperience. A couple other countries lost F-16s this year due to pilot error or mechanical failures and they weren't in a hot war. It sucks but it happens.

On Quetta visit, PM Shehbaz vows to rid Balochistan of terrorism ''at all costs''
[GEOTV] In response to a series of horrific attacks in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
that resulted in over 50 deaths, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the bucolic provincial capital on Thursday and vowed to completely eradicate terrorism from the province at all costs, saying the "blood of deaders will not go in vain".

The premier made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting of the National Action Plan's provincial apex committee.

Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, security czar Mohsin Naqvi, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Jam Kamal, corps commander, and other armed and civilian officials were in attendance.

The prime minister's visit to Quetta comes against the backdrop of recent bloodshed in the country's largest province by land wherein over 50 people, including 14 security personnel, were martyred in different terrorist attacks in Balochistan.

In one of the deadliest attacks on Monday, at least 23 passengers were killed after being offloaded from passenger buses and trucks in the Rarasham area of Balochistan's Musakhel.

Separately, at least 10 people, including police and Balochistan Levies personnel, were martyred in a gun attack in Kalat.

Furthermore, at least 14 brave sons of soil, including 10 security forces soldiers and four personnel of law enforcement agencies (LEAs), were martyred in clearance operations, wherein at least 21 forces of Evil were neutralised.

The recent bloodshed has resulted in a strong reaction from both the federal and provincial governments with PM Shehbaz ruling out dialogue and a "soft approach" in dealing with the enemy.

Terming the incidents ''tragic and barbaric'' today, the prime minister said all terrorist organizations, the "Khawarij" and controllers hatched the terror plot which resulted in martyrdom of innocent civilians and security personnel.

Ukrainian Armed Forces Militants Shoot Three Children in Malaya Loknya Area Near Kursk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Ukrainian Armed Forces militants shot three children in the Kursk region who were trying to evacuate on a motorcycle, the deputy battalion commander of the 9th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 11th Army Corps, call sign Cadet, said on August 29.

This is far from the first case of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers killing civilians in the Kursk region, the serviceman said, TASS reports.

"They put three children, approximately 10-12 years old, on a motorcycle with a sidecar. They showed them which direction to go. They went, and they (Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters. — Ed.) shot them in the back. This happened in the area of Malaya Loknya," said the battalion deputy commander.

Another case of killing civilians took place in Malaya Loknya itself: several elderly people gathered near a store building waiting for transport for evacuation, a drone appeared above them, and a few minutes later two militants came out of the building and shot people with small arms, the serviceman reported.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, Russian authorities had previously reported numerous crimes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the region. In particular, the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, said that Ukrainian formations had been shooting at roads in the first hours of their invasion of the region, which had complicated the evacuation of civilians.

The authorities have information about sexual violence by foreign mercenaries of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian nationalists against civilians in the Kursk region, said Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for Crimes of the Kiev Regime Rodion Miroshnik on August 29. He also said that Ukrainian Armed Forces militants are abducting civilians in the Kursk region and taking them away to an unknown location.

The captured Ukrainian Armed Forces militants had previously admitted that they had been looting and kidnapping civilians in the Kursk region. Ukrainian soldiers were ordered to shoot civilians who resisted, one of the prisoners said.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Kursk region on August 6. The Russian Armed Forces stopped the enemy, preventing Ukrainian forces from advancing deep into the region. Strikes are also being carried out on the resources and reserves of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sumy region. According to data as of August 29, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' losses in this direction exceeded 7,450 people.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Moscow has nothing to negotiate with those who strike civilians and civilian infrastructure and try to threaten nuclear power facilities.

He added that 424 people have already been reunited with their loved ones. In addition, about 3,500 applications were received through the state services portal in 24 hours and payments were made for 71,000 applications for a total of over 1 billion rubles.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on August 6, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the Kursk region. A state of emergency was declared in the region. Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal of the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexey Smirnov, on an automatic payment of 15 thousand rubles for residents of the Kursk region who left the border zone.

On August 26, Putin approved a list of instructions following a meeting on the situation in the Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk regions. In particular, the Russian government was instructed to ensure the non-declaratory nature of one-time financial aid payments to affected residents, as well as to organize uninterrupted access to the Internet and radiotelephone communications.

On August 29, the Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry for the Crimes of the Kiev Regime, Rodion Miroshnik, reported that over 350 people from the Kursk region were helped to be found by employees of the Russian Red Cross (RKK) over the past week.

Zaur Magomedov's arrest extended by three months
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The court extended the detention of Zaur Magomedov, who is accused of involvement in the militant attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala, by three months. The arrest was extended despite complaints from Magomedov's defense that the evidence in the case was falsified, the lawyer said.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on July 19, relatives of Zaur Magomedov, accused of involvement in the militant attack in Derbent and Makhachkala, stated that security forces had planted evidence during a search of his home. The conclusion following a visit to Magomedov in the pretrial detention center, during which he spoke about torture, was sent to the prosecutor's office, noted the chairman of the Public Monitoring Commission of Dagestan, Shamil Khadulaev.

On July 16, it became known that Zaur Magomedov  complained about torture in the detention center.

On August 27, the court extended Zaur Magomedov's detention for three months, despite the fact that his defense had previously complained about the falsification of the charges, lawyer Magomed Musayev said today.

He noted that the defense would appeal the extension of Magomedov's arrest. Musayev also said that the administration of the temporary detention facility in Makhachkala, where his client is being held, had delayed responding to the lawyer's request about whether Magomedov had actually been tortured.

"In a few days there will be a month, which by law is the maximum period for providing a response. We will wait a few days for a response to the request in order to attach the data recorded in the journal of this temporary detention facility to our complaints," the lawyer told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

Musayev added that after he joined the case, Magomedov stopped complaining about torture. "We would not have allowed it. But so that our statements are not unfounded, and we can attach evidence, we are waiting for a response from the temporary detention facility of the Makhachkala Department of Internal Affairs, where, according to Zaur, his bodily injuries as a result of beating and torture are recorded in the journal," Musayev explained.
