'Hero Fort Bliss Soldier Carried Children Away from Gunfire in Walmart Shooting
[MIL.com] U.S. Army Pfc. Glendon Oakley Jr. said Saturday he didn't believe it at first when a little kid came running into the sports store where he was shopping and said there was an active shooter at Walmart near the Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas.

Then he walked into Foot Locker and heard gunshots nearby.

"I am in the military and I've got my license to carry, so all I think about is get my gun out and think fast," Oakley said during an interview with KTSM-TV after a gunman killed 20 people and wounded another 26 in the Aug. 3 shooting.

Most of the victims were believed to have been shot inside Walmart, El Paso police said, adding that the store was packed with as many as 3,000 people during the busy back-to-school shopping season, according to an Associated Press report.

Frightened children ran in all directions, Oakley recalled.

"I saw a whole lot of kids just running around without their parents, so I'm just thinking about the kids, so I pick up as many as possible and carry them with me and another guy does as well," Oakley said during the interview.

"I wasn't really worried about myself. I was worried about the kids."

'Futuristic, Utopian Paradise Of Baltimore Completely Baffled By Trump's Attacks
[Babylon Bee] BALTIMORE, MD‐President Trump launched into a deranged attack against the city of Baltimore, calling it "a disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess" and a place "no human being would want to live." This caused extreme confusion within the city -- as, having been run exclusively by Democrats for decades and decades, it is a nearly perfect, progressive utopia and a beacon of hope to all.

Stepping into Baltimore is like stepping into the future. Thanks to its politics never having been corrupted by any right-wing elements, the city is almost free of problems. Shiny towers touch the sky, people happily travel from glass dome to glass dome in their flying cars, and not a trace of dirt or grime is found anywhere, thanks to the city's perfect central planning. Crime is unknown in Baltimore, since they have compassionate measures to reform criminals instead of punishing them. And there is no such thing as poverty or income inequality because of the Democrats’ tight control of the economy.

"I had no idea what Trump was talking about," said the leader of Baltimore, known as the "Overseer," who heads the largely automated bureaucracy of the city. "He called us rat-infested, and I was unfamiliar with the creature. I checked our vast archives -- as knowledge is very important to Baltimore -- and found out it was some sort of vermin that plagued cities in previous centuries. Such things are unknown in Baltimore."

The Overseer had thought to engage Trump on Twitter, but arguing on social media is for lesser beings and not for evolved people such as those who live in Baltimore. Instead, the citizens of Baltimore are going to continue to focus on their city, hoping to one day make it the greatest, most advanced city in the world, maybe even topping Detroit.

24 Mass Shootings during the Obama Regime Somehow Escapes News
[National Affairs] Mass shootings occur with depressing regularity in contemporary American life. Whether those shootings take place in Parkland or Las Vegas, Newtown or Fort Hood, the effect on our public discourse is the same. Those on the left call for more gun control. Those on the right talk about mental health and better enforcement of the laws already on the books. The emotional and intellectual responses of most individuals to such tragedies rarely influence our national discourse, except in one notable case: the president of the United States.

Over the course of our history, the role and influence of the president during a local tragedy or crisis have evolved significantly. In the 19th century, presidents had little involvement in crisis response and disaster management, for both technological and constitutional reasons. Their influence was limited technologically because the country lacked the communications capabilities needed to notify the president in a timely manner when disaster struck hundreds of miles away. Even when the telegraph and later the telephone entered the equation, the nation still lacked the mass media needed to provide the American people with real-time awareness of far-flung events. Naturally, this affected the political call for presidents to involve themselves in local crises.

#1  I guess this is a little harder to scrub than Kamala-mala-ding-dong's record as Cali AG. Fortunately journalists don't even need to plug their ears, screw their eyes shut and chant "la-la-la I can't hear you!" After all, they're professionals...

#2  Of course, Trump has only been in office two years; Obama was in office for eight. On the other hand, Obama had an average of 3 mass shootings a year. So if Trump had the same rate, there would have been six mass shootings so far.

#4  No one ever had a double digit number before Bath House.

But why? Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Posted by: Abu Uluque || 08/05/2019 11:17 Comments || Top||

#5  If you want to find statistically meaningful patterns in the data set, you will need much larger numbers than these. 1-3 incidents per year won't tell you anything at all.

The only possible trend is the increase from <1 incident year in the Reagan era to ~1/year in the 1990s and aughts to ca. 3/year since 2009.

What this really indicates is the increasing significance of COPYCAT behavior, and the drivers of copycat behavior are
1) the self-reinforcing tendency of such social phenomena
2) dramatic cultural changes i.e. how people think, what they value, and institutional changes in how the culture at large drives thought & behavior.

#1 is like many social phenomena - tulip crazes, hula hoop mania, conspiracy theories etc. It has a logic of its own, and swells until it's broken.

Re #2, the obvious huge change since 2009 is the rise of social media, which fuels copycattism.

Another change is the decline of the family as a source of stability in young American boys' lives.

Related to this breakdown, another potential fundamental cause should be studied: whether the rate of child abandonment and violent child abuse by American men has significantly increased since 1990.

If the answer to the above Q is No meaningful increase in abuse, then we need to examine the effect of the Left's demonization of men and masculinity that ramped up substantially after the Berlin Wall came down and the Left abandoned economics in favor of going all in on the Culture Wars.
Posted by: Lex || 08/05/2019 14:45 Comments || Top||

#6  To clarify, there is without question an obvious and meaningful long-term trend that has nothing whatsoever to do with who or which party occupies the White House.

Obviously, the driver of this trend is not politics or legislation but AMERICAN CULTURE.

We have a truly $hitty popular culture that harms our young men. That much is clear. How it harms them and who dies the most harm are less clear.

'GOP Rep Blames Obama, 'Drag Queen Advocates,' Marijuana and Opens Borders for Shootings
[Newsweek] Republican politician from Ohio has sparked fury after she linked the weekend's shooting in Dayton in which nine people died with a list of what she deems to be society's ills, including gay marriage, marijuana and violent video games.

In a post on Facebook, Representative Candice Keller, who lives in Middletown, around 30 miles south of Dayton, said that after every mass shooting "the liberals start the blame game," and asked "why not place the blame where it belongs?"

Keller attributed the killings to various problems that she said stemmed from the "breakdown of the traditional American family (thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates)."

She also listed video games, "fatherlessness" and "the acceptance of recreational marijuana" as other ills that contributed to the shootings.

#1  No more helpful than what the left is dishing. The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of each murderer. Digging for motives and influences after the fact changes nothing and doesn't do anything to prepare for the next murderous act.
Posted by: M. Murcek || 08/05/2019 9:23 Comments || Top||

#2  Idiot. She is exactly why Democrats win elections. Saying that people go on mass murder sprees because of gays, pot, and video games makes her sound like a regressive Christian stereotype that the left usually has to completely fabricate. Also, it pushes responsibility for the murderer's crimes onto "society", just like how the Loony Left always screams about how poverty and racism and the mere existence of guns made people go and start shooting up a mall.

#3  Let's not have some dem trolls and the NYT install hair triggers up our asses, guys. Here's what she really said.

The breakdown of the traditional American family (thank you, transgender, homosexual marriage, and drag queen advocates); fatherlessness, a subject no one discuses or believes is relevant; the ignoring of violent video games; the relaxing of laws against criminals (open borders); the acceptance of recreational marijuana; failed school policies (hello parents who defend misbehaving students); disrespect to law enforcement (thank you, Obama); hatred of our veterans (thank you, professional athletes who hate our flag and National Anthem); the Dem Congress, many members whom are open anti-Semitic; the culture, which totally ignores the importance of God and the church (until they elect a President); state officeholders, who have no interest whatsoever in learning about our Constitution and the Second Amendment; and snowflakes, who can’t accept a duly-elected President.

I don't think she was assigning immediate blame, she was only highlighting the systemic abuse of freedoms by Democrat administrators and the media, to the degree that they've created a society where lawlessness and delinquency is met with the least resistance, and family values, morality is relegated to 'regressive' stupidity. Almost everything
except the video games part, because they're lovely
she says is right.

These crimes involving young men who can send a copper jacketed slug into an innocent civ with utter sang froid, deciding their fate after meeting them only once through a scope - it's a symptom of the social environs created by a society that first questions it's conservative morality, then mocks it, and finally seeks to obliterate it. Isn't that exactly what the enemy is expecting white kids to do ? I think the woman is deeply conservative and even if she's not up on current mores of expression, she's one of us.

'How Comey set a trap for prosecutors when leaking his memos
[American Thinker] Had the Department of Justice acted on the criminal referral that Inspector Horowitz reportedly issued regarding James Comey’s leak of memos, it would have fallen into a trap. Credit Comey with the legal sophistication you’d expect from a head of the FBI, but also credit the team assembled by Attorney General Barr for avoiding the trap.

Yesterday, I offered a non-lawyer’s analysis of Why you shouldn’t worry about the DOJ not prosecuting Comey on leaked memos and described the downside of a prosecution when the case is weak:
... imagine to potential consequences of taking as the first case against Comey a prosecution that could well be lost. Once a prosecution fails, the calls to drop the "political motivated persecution" would be legion. It is important that the first case taken to a jury be rock-solid and serious.

Following that, the Twitter account labeled "Undercover Huber" provided a detailed and expert analysis of the weakness of the case against Comey, illustrating the wiliness of the lawman in structuring his actions in a manner that would strengthen his defense against prosecution to the point where a not guilty verdict was probable. To be clear, Undercover Huber does not allege a trap ‐ that is my inference, because I see the political impact of any unsuccessful prosecution. U.H., rather, provides expert knowledge of Comey’s craftiness.

'Scots favor independence from Albion, Ashcroft poll shows
LONDON (Reuters) - Scottish voters would back independence and they want another referendum in the next two years, a poll published on Monday showed, indicating that the United Kingdom could be wrenched apart shortly after it leaves the European Union.

Asked how they would vote in an independence referendum, 46% of the 1,019 surveyed Scottish voters said they would vote for independence and 43% said they would vote against, according to a poll by Michael Ashcroft.

Excluding those who said they did not know or would not vote, this amounted to 52% to 48% for an independent Scotland.

"I found a small majority in favor of a new vote ‐ and the first lead for an independent Scotland for more than two years," Ashcroft, a Conservative who opposed Boris Johnson’s successful bid to be prime minister, said.

Johnson, who took over from Theresa May last month and is unpopular in Scotland, was booed as he entered a meeting last week with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who is demanding London agree to another referendum.

'Protesters paralyse Hong Kong with citywide strike
[Aljazeera] Pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong have launched a rare citywide strike, crippling parts of the city, as the semi-autonomous territory's Chief Executive Carrie Lam warned on Monday of the "dangerous path" the demonstrations are heading.

At least eight railway lines, including the airport express, were shut fully or partly. Several protesters were seen blocking entrances to the commuter trains, occasionally leading to fighting with other passengers rushing to their destinations.

An estimated 200 flights were also cancelled on Monday, and only one of two runways in the city's main airport is operating. Media reports blamed it on aviation workers joining the strike.

A number of protesters also tried to block vehicular traffic, causing brief congestion before authorities came to clear the streets of the steet and plastic barriers.

#2  I don't see a way for this to end well. The ChiComs can't allow any challenge to their rule, lest others get the same idea and suddenly you have one of those preference cascades that all repressive governments dread. Hong Kong, having had a big taste of western freedoms, is very reluctant to knuckle under to any mainland crackdown. Prediction: tanks and mass killing - unless the authorities can get some deniable 3rd party violence to shutdown the protests.

I'm a bit surprised this took so long to come to a boil. That One Country, Two Systems business was just kicking the can down the road.

'7 women buy 30 guns from sports stores in Metro Detroit for convicted felon to sell on streets
[Click on Detroit] DETROIT - Seven women bought more than 30 guns from Dunham's Sports and firearms stores in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties for "White Boy," a convicted felon who was banned from having firearms, to resell on the streets, officials said.

Ruemondo Murray is accused of directing Regina Blanchard, Shakira May, Precious Prevot, Yalanda Hardrick, Tiffany Simmons, Candace Simmons and Tywana Murray to buy guns for him at stores around Metro Detroit.

A 19-year special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Detroit told officials the women bought more than 30 handguns for Murray in about two months.

'Detroit Gun Owner Takes On Multiple Armed Robbers
[Bearing Arms] A concealed carry holder in Detroit was forced to defend himself against multiple attackers who tried to rob him on a city street Thursday night.

Officials said the 49-year-old CPL holder was in the 8200 block of Woodlawn Avenue on Detroit’s east side when he saw three men in a black Buick around 9 p.m. Thursday.

The men were trying to rob someone when they noticed the 49-year-old, police said. They tried to rob him, but he pulled out his gun and started to fire shots at them, according to authorities.

The mini-crime spree was stopped once the armed citizen fired at the robbers. The trio got back into their vehicle and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Or rather, they attempted to get away. Turns out they drive about as well as they rob.

While fleeing the area, the men put their car in reverse and crashed into a building, police said. They ran away but were later found in a vacant house in the 8100 block of Knodell Street just blocks away in Detroit.

A Grosse Pointe Farms K-9 unit helped Detroit police track the men to the vacant house, officials said.

Three men were taken into custody by police at the vacant home. Two of the three were found with gunshot wounds; a 26-year old suspect was shot in the leg, and a 25-year old had been shot in the torso. The third suspect, also 25-years old, was uninjured.

The two injured suspects were taken to a local hospital, and they’ll join their buddy in jail once they’ve recovered from their injuries. Police are still investigating the case, but at the moment it looks like a clear-cut case of self defense.

It’s worth noting that Detroit Police Chief James Craig has been vocal about his support for armed citizens, which is rare for a big city police chief. I’ve actually spoken with Chief Craig in the past about his advocacy, and why so many of his colleagues stay silent or echo the views of the anti-gun politicians who appoint them. You can check out one of those past interviews below, and we’ll try to get the chief on Bearing Arms’ Cam & Co. in the near future.

[Breitbart] Democrats are blaming President Donald Trump for the shootings in El Paso on Saturday and another in Dayton, Ohio overnight that killed 29 people.

Politico reported:
Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown attacked his Republican colleagues for failing to defy the gun lobby and pass any kind of gun control legislation.

He also called for President Donald Trump to tone down his "divisive racist rhetoric" but stopped short of conceding that Trump’s language has encouraged white supremacist terrorism.
Democrat and presidential candidate Julian Castro "pointed to a ’toxic brew’ of white nationalism and says Trump needs to do more to "unite Americans instead of fanning the flames of bigotry."

NBC reported Democrat presidential candidate and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) "argued Sunday the President Trump’s rhetoric on immigration has helped to stoke racial resentment and a climate of hate in light of Saturday’s mass shooting in El Paso, Texas."

"We have a president of the United States who is particularly responsible," Booker said in an interview with Meet the Press.

"In my faith, you have this idea that you reap what you sow, and he is sowing seeds of hatred in this country, this harvest of hate violence that we are seeing right now lies at his feet," Booker said. "There is a complicity in the president’s hatred that undermines the goodness and decency of Americans."

#5  Anyone hear of TX Lt Gov telling Antifa to stay out of El Paso? Anyone aware that Antifa issued a Call to Action for El Paso following the ICE attack in WA, and prior to the El Paso mass shooting? What I'm seeing right now is that the Left has convinced itself that this is their equivalent of Ft Sumter and that any action taken by them now to forward their agenda has justification. The real violence is just around the corner

Israel’s Likud rules out Netanyahu stepping aside
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Lawmakers from Israel’s ruling Likud party say they will only accept Benjamin Netanyahu as the party’s candidate for prime minister, "regardless of the election results."

Netanyahu’s party issued a statement Sunday saying that all of its Knesset members signed a "unity petition" affirming that Netanyahu "is the only Likud candidate for prime minister - and there will be no other candidate."

The move appeared aimed at quashing any demand by potential coalition partners that Netanyahu step down.

Netanyahu passed David Ben-Gurion last month as Israel’s longest serving prime minister and seeks re-election for a fourth consecutive term. Israel is holding an unprecedented repeat election on September 17 after Netanyahu failed to form a government following April’s vote.

He also faces a pre-indictment hearing in a series of corruption cases.

Seventeen dead in car explosion in central Cairo
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Seventeen people have died and 32 have been injured in a kaboom outside Egypt's National Cancer Institute in central Cairo, Egypt’s health ministry said early on Monday.

A car driving against traffic on Cairo’s corniche collided with three other cars, causing the earth-shattering kaboom, Egypt’s interior ministry said in a statement.

Egypt’s public prosecutor is investigating the cause of the incident, according to sources.

The National Oncology Institute is located in El Manial district and directly overlooks the Nile, an area with high traffic density.

According to the Ministry of Health, the earth-shattering kaboom also caused damage to facilities inside the Institute.

The Ministry of Health also announced that it evacuated the Institute and transferred the patients to al-Munira Hospital.

[DAWN] Indian government placed under house arrest the former chief ministers of Indian-Indian Kashmiree (IoK), Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, late Sunday night and imposed curfew-like restrictions in the restive region.

"There shall be no movement of public. All educational institutions shall also remain closed. Identity cards of essential services officials will be treated as movement passes wherever required," reads the Indian government order, but says "there is no curfew in place".

According to Greater Kashmire and Indian media, authorities also suspended internet services on cellphones, a common tactic to prevent anti-India demonstrations from being organised and stop dissemination of news.

LA Times Opinion Piece on Mass Shootings
First, the vast majority of mass shooters in our study experienced early childhood trauma and exposure to violence at a young age. The nature of their exposure included parental suicide, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, domestic violence, and/or severe bullying. The trauma was often a precursor to mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, thought disorders or suicidality.

#2  Interesting: in this thorough, scientific review of empirical evidence of causal factors there's not one mention, at all, of any kind of political rhetoric as being even remotely relevant.

Zip, zero, nada, nichego.

mass shootings tend to come in clusters. They are socially contagious. Perpetrators study other perpetrators and model their acts after previous shootings. Many are radicalized online in their search for validation from others that their will to murder is justified.

Tonto Dikeh shares message from assassin paid to kill her
[PULSE.NG] Tonto Dikeh
She's a Nollywood actress.
has shared a frightening mail sent to her by an alleged assassin who says he has been paid to kill her.
I suppose you have to take such things seriously in Nigeria. But...
The actress took to her Instagram page on Friday, August 2, 2019, where she posted a copy of the email she got from the alleged assassin. In the mail, the assassin claims to have been paid by a man to eliminate her.
The guy's "name" on the email is David Hernandez, an un-Nigerian name. He probably wouldn't be able to skulk very well in Nigeria. The sombrero would giver him away.
He went to say he has been monitoring her for a while now but couldn't bring himself to do the job. He, however, adviced her to pay him a ransom so he could let her off his hook. Apparently not moved by the mail Tonto Dikeh revealed that she was going to make sure the person behind the mail is brought to book.
I doubt he will be, but I hope they do.

Maybe six months ago or so, I had a look in my Spam folder on Gmail. I happened to find a message similar to this one:

I'm always one step ahead....

So... I have downloaded all confidential information from your system and I got some more evidence.

The most interesting moment that I have discovered are videos records where you masturbating.

I posted EternalBlue Exploit modification on porn site, and then you installed my malicious code (trojan) on your operation system.

When you clicked the button Play on porn video, at that moment my trojan was downloaded to your device.
After installation, your front camera shoots video every time you masturbate, in addition, the software is synchronized with the video you choose.

For the moment, the software has harvrested all your contact information from social networks and email addresses.

If you need to erase all of your collected data and video with your enjoy, send me $600(usd) in BTC (crypto currency).

This is my Bitcoin wallet: 15GWKdT8e1o6GcDTZMQZRiZng2Q6dLX8Aw
You have 48 hours after reading this letter.

After your transaction I will erase all your data.
Otherwise, I will send video with your pranks to all your colleagues, friends and relatives!!!

P.S. I'm asking you - not to answer this letter because the sender's address is fake, just to keep me incognito.

I'm not going to address the content of the message. It's quoted verbatim here, where they discuss the "sextortion" scam. If you ever bother looking in your Spam folder you might find a few as well.

Now it looks like poor Tonto might be the victim of a "murder" scam. I can see why she would have to take the threat more seriously. If there actually were vids of me playing with myself on the Rantburg server (Why would I put them there? Where'd the camera come from?) that would be either funny or pathetic, depending on your tastes. But here's a poor gal who's thinking seriously of laying out good money so she doesn't get plugged on her way to an awards ceremony or while remaking Alice in Wonderland or something.

There's a difference between attempted blackmail and threats of murder. These guys are trying hard to push Spam out of the nuisance category. Hormel foods should sue.

By the way, if you ever get a video of me playing with myself, try not to laugh.

Saadi Gaddafi’s Family Plans Int’l Lawsuit to Release him
[AAWSAT] The family of slain former Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffy
...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
has warned that it would file lawsuits locally and internationally to press for the release of his third son Saadi, accusing the parties detaining him of torture.

In April last year, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's court of appeals acquitted Saadi Qadaffy of murdering Bashir al-Rayani, a former footballer and coach of Tripoli's al-Ittihad football club, in 2005.

Since his extradition from Niger in March 2014, Saadi has been held in al-Hadaba prison in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

His family said in a statement carried by the pro-Qadaffy Jana news agency that it would "file the lawsuits against all those involved in Saadi’s incarceration and his torture despite being acquitted by the court."

It claimed that Saadi’s captors denied him the appropriate medical care, putting his life in danger.

The family urged the international community and human rights
...which are often intentionally defined so widely as to be meaningless...
officials to assume their legal and moral responsibilities against those who have "lost their conscience" and continued to "torture" Saadi Qadaffy despite his acquittal.

Al-Hadaba is among the most notorious prisons in Libya where thousands of prisoners, including former regime figures, are held.

A source close to the Qadaffy family told Asharq al-Awsat that several lawyers have been tasked with filing the lawsuits against a "long list of personalities who will be accused of involvement in torturing Saadi and denying him freedom."

Israel's Left Struggles for Traction in Bid to Topple Netanyahu
[WSJ, click past the sign-in] Israel's left is attempting to limp out of the political graveyard in a contest to unseat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The left was once the stable for the country's leaders, and the Labor Party and its predecessor, Maipai, provided seven of 12 prime ministers since Israel's founding. But no leftist politician has led Israel for nearly two decades. In the last election, in April, Labor saw its worst result, winning only six seats.

Ehud Barak, Labor's last prime minister, has returned to politics as a leader of a new party in an alliance that wants to lead the left's attempt at resurrection.

But the Democratic Union alliance, led by Mr. Barak and the head of the Meretz party, will enter the Sept. 17 election separately from Labor, which declined to join them. Labor instead joined forces with a party on the center-right to focus more on socioeconomic issues

Mr. Barak, a former head of Israel's military, wants to unify leaders on the left, strengthen the wing's security credentials and topple Mr. Netanyahu, who was his protégé when Mr. Barak commanded the special forces.

Mr. Barak, 77 years old, is regarded by some political observers as the kind of feisty campaigner the left has lacked. Prime minister from 1999-2001, he is the only politician to have beaten Mr. Netanyahu in an election.

The two men have also combined forces at opportune times. Mr. Barak was Mr. Netanyahu's defense minister from 2009-2013, and joined the prime minister in arguing for a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear facilities.

After his retirement from politics in 2013, the former general became one of Mr. Netanyahu's fiercest critics, attacking him for his political alliances with far-right parties and alleged corruption.

Mr. Netanyahu has jabbed back at his former mentor, most recently over business and personal ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the American financier facing sex trafficking charges. Both politicians deny any wrongdoing.

The personal rivalry will come to a head when Israelis vote in September in elections that were called after Mr. Netanyahu failed to form a 61-seat governing coalition.

Mr. Barak's alliance with Meretz and social-justice advocate Stav Shaffir, who left her position as a senior Labor official to join the group, aims to ensure that smaller leftist factions get a foothold in parliament in a political system that eliminates parties that don't reach 3.25% of the vote.

The alliance, dubbed the Democratic Union, aims to be a moderating, leftist force, potentially as a part of the government‐though Mr. Barak has said the group wouldn't join a government led by Mr. Netanyahu.

"Nothing like it has been established in the left for a great many years," Nitzan Horowitz, head of Meretz, said last week of the new coalition. "The Israeli left has returned to being a strong, great, attractive and influential factor."

Sudan: Opposition Sign Power-sharing Deal with Military
[AAWSAT] Sudan’s military rulers and the main opposition coalition signed a power-sharing agreement on Sunday to open the door for a transition to civilian rule following the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir in April.

Representatives initialed a constitutional document that would establish a joint military and civilian council to rule for a little over three years until elections can be held.

The agreement would establish a Cabinet appointed by the activists, as well as a legislative body, the Associated Press reported.

The military overthrew al-Bashir in April following months of mass protests against his three-decade-long autocratic rule. The protesters remained in the streets, demanding a rapid transition to a civilian authority.

The parties are expected to put their final signatures on the agreement on Aug. 17 at a ceremony in Khartoum attended by foreign leaders.

According to sources familiar with the negotiations, the formation of a sovereign council will be announced on Aug. 18, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, a new prime minister will be named on Aug. 20 and a cabinet on Aug. 28.

The cabinet and the sovereign council will meet together on Sept. 1, the sources noted, ahead of the appointment of a legislative assembly in three months.

Court issues notice to Sethi over ‘derogatory’ remarks
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: A local court on Saturday issued a notice to anchorperson Najam Sethi on a defamation suit filed by Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka The Great Khan, who ain't the brightest knife in the national drawer...
for passing "derogatory" remarks against him.

Mr Khan has claimed Rs10 billion in terms of damages and compensation from Mr Sethi for intruding on his private life.

Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Basit Aleem took up Mr Khan’s application and issued the notice to Mr Sethi for Aug 9. The judge, however, rejected a request from Mr Khan’s counsel for an order to the private television channel to restrain Mr Sethi from hosting his programme Najam Sethi Show, saying the matter may be raised before another ADSJ, Mohammad Ali Warraich, who would take up Mr Khan’s application.

In the application, the prime minister said Mr Sethi’s programme aired on March 28, "openly slandered the family and private life of the plaintiff [PM Khan] with an object to degrade and defame the plaintiff in the eyes of general public".

‘Hidden debts' reveal risks of China's lending spree
[Asia Times] For many poor nations, it is a long and winding road to ’debt’ and ’corruption.’ A journey littered with economic potholes in the shape of China’s signature foreign policy project which was unveiled by President Xi Jinping six years ago.

In short, the US$1 trillion Belt and Road Initiative, along with other foreign funding, has become a magical mystery tour, baffling the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. Or, according to critics, a diplomatic car crash waiting to happen.

"Compared with China’s dominance in world trade, its expanding role in global finance is poorly documented and understood," a report released last week by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy stated.
"Over the past decades, China has exported record amounts of capital to the rest of the world. Many of these financial flows are not reported to the IMF, the BIS [the Bank for International Settlements] or the World Bank," authors Sebastian Horn, of Munich’s Ludwig Maximilian University, Carmen M Reinhart, of the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States, and Christoph Trebesch, of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in Germany, wrote.

"’Hidden debts’ to China are especially significant for about three dozen developing countries, and distort the risk assessment in both policy surveillance and the market pricing of sovereign debt," the working paper added.
The study then went on to highlight that China is now the world’s largest creditor.

A breakdown of the numbers showed that lending soared to around US$5 trillion by 2018 from roughly $500 billion in 2000, which dwarfs World Bank and IMF credit lines.

(A few thoughts for those who lost their lives in El Paso.)

A timeless story
That has no end
a love like ours
not, and never ever can die
I want to be in your soul
a happy moment
I will love you forever
I will live within you

In the days of pain
feel my love
that will come with the wind
that will come with the sun
in the eyes of god
Far away from you
You will see me in dreams
You will feel my kisses
and you will hear my laughter

if you feel alone
and you are in silence
think about my touches
and our secrets
I want to be in your soul
a happy moment
I will love you forever
I will live within you

In the days of pain
feel my love

Afghanistan
Bomb on bus carrying media workers kills two
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An Afghan official says a magnetic bomb attached to a bus carrying media workers has killed two people in the capital, Kabul.

Nasrat Rahimi, the interior ministry front man, said on Sunday that the bus driver and a pedestrian were killed.

He said two employees of the Khurshid TV station and another pedestrian were maimed.

No one grabbed credit, but the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
and the rival ISIS bully boy group have both attacked news hounds in the past over what the bandidos bully boys view as biased or negative coverage.

The two groups are active in the capital.

In June, the Taliban said local Afghan media would be targeted if they continued transmitting anti-Taliban announcements paid for by the government.

Iraq
Eight drug traffickers caught after escaping police custody in Baghdad
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Eight out of 15 drug trafficking suspects have been recaptured after escaping custody in a Baghdad cop shoppe, Iraq’s interior ministry said, as the breakout prompted several dismissals.

"The search continues to find the others," a police officer said, on condition of anonymity.

The 15 suspected members of a drug trafficking network escaped custody on Saturday, after having "insulted the police, then beaten them", according to a security services official.

The interior ministry said eight had been recaptured without specifying where they were being held.

Baghdad’s police chief and the heads of al-Russafa police department in the capital’s east and the station where the suspects pulled off their escape have all been fired, the ministry said.

On social media, images of video surveillance purported to be from the cop shoppe shows men in civilian clothing running through a door, apparently without any resistance.

No one in uniform is visible in the footage.

Prison security is a critical issue in Iraq, where escapes are not uncommon, whether by violence or bribery.

Iraq is the 12th most corrupt country in the world, according to Transparency International, and experts have pointed to high levels of corruption in its prisons.

During the insurrection and sectarian violence that followed the 2003 US-led invasion, hundreds of jihadists were able to escape from prison.

Iraq is currently seeking to try thousands of local and foreign jihadists, while keeping them in overcrowded prisons.

Many prisons have been rendered unusable by repeated conflicts.

The sale and use of drugs have been booming in Iraq. Authorities regularly announce the seizure of narcotics and the arrest of traffickers, particularly along the border with Iran.

Hundreds detained at opposition rally in Moscow
[DAWN] Police detained hundreds of protesters at an opposition gathering in Moscow on Saturday, as authorities upped the pressure on top Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny by launching a criminal probe into his anti-graft group.

Crowds of people marched in the capital’s central boulevards for a protest "stroll" over the refusal by officials to let a number of opposition candidates run in September polls for city parliament seats.

Most of those candidates and opposition leaders, including Navalny, are being held by police following a protest rally last weekend, in which 1,400 demonstrators were detained ‐ one of the biggest crackdowns in years.

On Saturday, riot police were deployed in large numbers in central Moscow, some shops and cafes were shut, metal barriers were erected and the mobile internet was down for many hours.

According to the statement, appropriate security arrangements had been made to protect citizens and uphold law and order across the city.

It urged residents to go about their lawful businesses as their freedom of movement is guaranteed.

Riyad Mansour said Israel wasn’t included despite figures and statistics in the report about serious violations carried out by the occupied forces against Paleostinian children.

The UN security Council held Saturday in New York City a special session in which its members discussed the annual UN report on situation of children in times of conflict.

The report included more than 24,000 violations against children in 2018 carried out in about 20 countries.

In regards to Paleostinian children, the report said that the number of Paleostinian children killed or injured has amounted to its highest level in 2018 since 2014.

It said 59 children were killed in 2018, 56 of them by the Israeli army, and 2,756 children were maimed (2,514 boys and 242 girls), most of which during the Great March of Return. The Injuries included permanent disabilities and limb amputations

According to the report, 203 children have been held in Israeli prisons, most of them in administrative detention, without charge or trial.

Syria: UN Calls for 'Aleppo Scenario' in Idlib, Russia Returns to Sochi
[AAWSAT] Russia and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
are cooperating once again to implement the Sochi Agreement in Idlib after failing with Damascus to achieve rapid military progress in northwest Syria.

Talks between Moscow and Ankara were launched to agree on the cease-fire after each party increased their demands. Turkey hinted at supporting the demand of opposition factions calling for the withdrawal of government forces to the deployment lines agreed on before recent military escalation.

Moscow and Damascus held the Ottoman Turkish side responsible for the implementation accord struck in the Russian resort of Sochi to withdraw heavy and medium weapons from the buffer zone in northwestern Syria.

Several Russian officials increased their demands for the implementation of the remaining terms of Sochi Agreement within 24 hours, especially regarding the highway between Hama and Aleppo.

Three months after the military offensive, government forces did not make strategic progress, and the UN says at least 450 non-combatants were killed and over 440,000 others displaced.

Earlier, Damascus announced a "conditional truce" that included cease-fire in the de-escalation zone in Idlib, on condition Death Eaters and opposition groups withdraw forces and weaponry from a buffer zone as per Sochi.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
(HTS), which controls Idlib province, warned in a statement that it would not abide by a cease-fire if its areas were targeted.

Western diplomatic sources told Asharq al-Awsat if a rapid military breakthrough is possible in Idlib, the formation of the constitutional committee will be accelerated in search of a political achievement amidst the military impasse.

Russia committed to implementing the Sochi Agreement through military action, providing air support to the government forces and launching several raids on the cities located over Latakia ‐ Aleppo and Hama ‐ Aleppo roads, according to the sources.

Europe
Migrants on German NGO ship allowed to disembark in Malta
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Malta said it has authorized 40 migrants colonists aboard a rescue ship run by German NGO Sea-Eye to disembark following an agreement reached among several EU countries to take them in.

The deal was announced after the migrants colonists on the Alan Kurdi ship, rescued on Wednesday off Libya, had been barred from landing in Italia.

Italia’s far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini has taken a hard line against migrants colonists entering the country.

The migrants colonists will arrive in the Maltese capital Valletta later Sunday, the Maltese government said late Saturday.

The German government and the Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Commission made arrangements for the migrants colonists to be shared among several EU countries, it said.

None of the 40 migrants colonists will remain in Malta and the Alan Kurdi - named after a Syrian toddler who drowned in the Mediterranean Sea - will stay in international waters as they disembark.

The government gave no indication which countries had agreed to take them in.

But Portugal said on Saturday that it was prepared to accept five of those on board, and that La Belle France, Germany and Luxembourg had offered to take others.

On Thursday, Salvini said that the German government had told the European Commission that unless the 40 migrants colonists onboard the Alan Kurdi were allowed to disembark in Italia it would not take in a group of 30 migrants colonists it had already promised to accept.

"This is real blackmail," said Salvini. "It confirms that other European countries consider Italia as their refugee camp, but things have changed and we no longer accept orders and invasions."

During its last rotation off Libya in early July, the Alan Kurdi rescued 109 migrants colonists and disembarked them in Malta.

Meanwhile another humanitarian ship, Open Arms, was looking for a port to disembark 121 migrants colonists.

The Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms had rescued 55 migrants colonists off Libya on Thursday, and then took on a second group of 69 the next day.

Two pregnant women and the sister of one of them were allowed to disembark in Italia for medical reasons, while the others remain on board the ship which is barred from entering Italian territorial waters.

is the only GCC country that continues to implement male guardianship laws for female travel after Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
lifted restrictions on Friday.

Saudi Arabia announced on Friday breakthrough changes to the Kingdom’s guardianship laws, allowing all citizens over the age of 21 ‐ male and female ‐ to travel freely without a guardian’s approval.

In Qatar, guardianship rules still limit women’s ability to travel. According to the Qatari Ministry of Interior’s website, single women under 25 years of age require a male guardian’s consent to travel outside the country.

Qatari men can also apply to the courts to prohibit their wives from travelling. "Married women are entitled to travel without permission irrespective of their age. In case the husband doesn’t want her to travel, he has to approach the competent court to prevent her journey," the ministry lists as another condition on its website.

For Qatari males, the Qatari interior ministry says that "no permission is required for those who are 18 years old or more as they have reached the legal age of puberty."

Under Qatar official e-Government Portal Hukoomi, instructions for citizens to renew their passports only specifies that Qatari male citizens over the age of 18 can apply for it themselves and their dependents. The website also states that they may apply on behalf of unmarried daughters and sisters, as well as for unmarried nieces.

In Saudi Arabia, Friday’s decree gives women the right to apply for and obtain a passport independently. Other changes allow women to register a marriage, divorce, or child’s birth and to be issued official family documents. The decree also stipulates that a father or mother can be legal guardians of children.

Neither Bahrain nor the UAE operates guardian systems for adult female travelers. Kuwaiti women gained the right to travel without a guardian’s permission in 2009. Omani women are free to travel, but married Omani women need approval from their husband to receive a passport.

Police deny Bangkok bombings were revenge
[Bangkok Post] Thai police have dismissed reports that the bombings in Bangkok were in revenge for the death of a suspected rebel sympathizer who died while in detention at a military camp in the far South. Deputy spokesman Krissana Pattanacharoen denied the reports and said that Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has instructed national police chief Chakthip Chaijinda to step up efforts to track down and arrest those involved.

According to earlier reports, two men from the far South who were arrested in connection with a bomb found at the Royal Thai Police (RTP) headquarters claimed they and eight accomplices wanted to create chaos in Bangkok to avenge the death of a suspected sympathizer detained at a military camp. The two men, both from Rueso district of Narathiwat, were apprehended on an inter-provincial bus at a police checkpoint in Chumphon province on Friday.

A security camera had captured images of a man dropping a suspicious looking object near the fence outside RTP headquarters on Thursday evening. The object was found to be a time bomb set to go off at 8am on Friday, but it was defused. Another source on the investigation team said security camera footage showed another four suspects allegedly involved in the bombings.

The four men boarded an inter-provincial bus from Songkhla's Hat Yai district on July 31 and got off at Mo Chit bus terminal in Bangkok the following day. The four then took a taxicab to Makro's Rangsit branch in Pathum Thani province where they changed their clothes before splitting into two groups of two, each group taking separate cabs.

One headed to a government complex on Chaeng Watthana Road in Bangkok and the other went to the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defense in Nonthaburi's Pak Kret district. They then took cabs to Mo Chit, where they took a bus back to Hat Yai district on Thursday evening. Bombs went off at the two locations on Friday morning, the source said.

The source added the four suspects spoke Yawee, the Malay dialect spoken by locals in the far South.
Thai police may well have evidence I know nothing about, but it is interesting that every paragraph in my summary of the article, other than the first, is full of details about what's being denied.

Libya: LNA Downs Several Drones
[AAWSAT] The situation in Libya's capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, was relatively calm due to heavy losses of armed militias loyal to Government of National Accord (GNA), according to Commander of Libya National Army’s (LNA) Ain Zara axis, Major General Fawzi al-Mansouri.

Mansouri told Asharq al-Awsat that the battle to liberate Tripoli had entered its final phase, pointing that 32 holy warriors were killed and dozens of others injured.

Information Officer of the 73rd Infantry Brigade al-Mundhir al-Kartoush announced that of the killed krazed killers, 13 were from Misrata. He indicated that the militias targeted civilian areas behind LNA forces, which in turn destroyed a large force in al-Saddadah before moving towards al-Shwayrf.

Libyan National Army (LNA) announced it had destroyed several drones, one of which was a Wing Loong model and was heading towards Misrata, announced Spokesman for the Volcano of Rage Operation (VRO), Mustafa al-Majai.

The air defenses managed to down the drone inside Abugrein, 12 KM west of Misrata, Majai told Agence La Belle France-Presse (AFP), adding that it was carrying five guided missiles and was ready to carry out strikes inside the city.

VRO published pictures showing a destroyed medium-sized drone, along with several missiles carrying a red flag.

Last week, Volcano of Rage announced it destroyed several drones claiming they belonged to the LNA, however, Army sources denied the allegations.
No, no! Certainly not!
indicating the drone dropped in al-Jufra belonged to Tripoli militias.

In other news, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) reported that LNA commander Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Meanwhile,

Tripoli residents reported random shelling in the vicinity of Mitiga International Airport, while airport authorities announced in a brief statement it suspended air traffic.

"Canada welcomes the news that Saeed Malekpour has been reunited with his family in Canada," Canada's foreign ministry front man said in a statement received by AFP.

"We have advocated for Mr Malekpour's release and are pleased that he is now in Canada," the front man said, without elaborating due to privacy considerations.

For his part Iran's judiciary front man Gholamhossein Esmaili said: "this individual was barred from leaving the country and has apparently left... via unofficial channels and has not returned."

"This individual was sentenced to life in jail and had served more than 11 years of his sentence," Esmaili added, as quoted by the judiciary's official news agency, Mizan Online.

According to AFP, his sister posted a video on Twitter confirming he had returned to Canada.

"My brother Saeed Malekpour has just arrived to Canada! The nightmare is finally over!" Maryam Malekpour said.

Canadian media said he had landed in Vancouver on Friday.

Malekpour was arrested in December 2008 in Iran

He was initially sentenced to death, but that was commuted to life in prison in August 2013, AFP reported.

According to reports at the time, he had been found guilty on three counts, including "designing and moderating adult content websites" and "insulting the sanctity of Islam".

Afghanistan
US Military Calls ISIS in Afghanistan a Threat to the West
[AAWSAT] Senior United States military and intelligence officials are sharply divided over how much of a threat ISIS in Afghanistan poses to the West, a critical point in the Trump administration’s debate over whether American troops stay or withdraw after nearly 18 years of war.

American military commanders in Afghanistan have described ISIS affiliate there as a growing problem that is capable of inspiring and directing attacks in Western countries, including the United States.

But intelligence officials in Washington disagree, arguing the group is mostly incapable of exporting terrorism worldwide. The officials believe that ISIS in Afghanistan, known as ISIS Khorasan, remains a regional problem and is more of a threat to the Taliban

#3  Trump should pull out completely and just let 'em be, he can't commit to destroying the IS khorasan at this point. It's no use under-manning your troops in that hellhole. And when they see the savagery to come on the news every day the US should promise themselves never to try and democratize other nations or use muslims as walking biological weapons ever again. This has gone on long enough. I'm beginning to see a point to Herb's rants.

#6  I'd try this: Parachute drop a huge H-bomb into Mecca, no detonation. Have the US ambassador relate this message - Every week, on an irregular schedule, US technicians will visit the bomb. Anyone interfering with the technicians will result in the bomb being detonated. Anyone else getting within 500 yards of it will cause it to be detonated. Additionally, any attack on the US traced to anywhere in the middle east will cause the bomb to be detonated. Saudi intelligence had better get busy. NOW!

Britain
Teen arrested after 'throwing' boy from London's Tate Modern
[PULSE.NG] A teenager was arrested on Sunday after allegedly throwing a six-year-old boy from a tenth-floor viewing platform of London's Tate Modern gallery, police said.
Whoa! I though I just saw my old friend D.J. Wu!
The boy was airlifted to hospital and is in a critical condition, while the 17-year-old male suspect is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
Just like the dipshit at Mall of the Americas. Wotta coincidence!
The Tate Modern, a leading contemporary art museum on the banks of the River Thames, was initially locked down but visitors were later allowed to leave.

Several members of the public gave witness statements.

"Police were called at around 2:40pm (1340 GMT) on August 4 to reports of a young boy thrown from the tenth floor viewing platform of the Tate Modern," the police statement said.

"The six year-old victim was found on a fifth floor roof. He was treated at the scene and taken to hospital by London's Air Ambulance.

"The boy’s condition is critical; his family are being supported by police."

Police said the suspect "remained with members of the public on the tenth floor viewing platform. There is nothing to suggest that he is known to the victim".

"The teenager was arrested by coppers on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into police custody."

The Tate Modern is Britannia's top visitor attraction, with 5.87 million visits in 2018, according to the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions.
Update from the Daily Mail at 1:30 p.m. EDT:
The teenager arrested on suspicion of attempted murder blamed social services for his actions - and was stalking other children seconds before the attack, MailOnline can reveal today.

The 17-year-old suspect was punched in the face by one irate man who saw him throw the child over a barrier at the viewing platform.

Today Scotland Yard revealed the little boy, who has not been named and was flown by air ambulance to hospital, is in a critical condition but is 'no longer in a life-threatening situation'.

Nancy Barnfield said she and her two young sons were stalked on the viewing platform by a stranger only seconds before the horrifying incident.

The 47-year-old from Rochdale was so alarmed that she warned her children to avoid him.

She said: 'He followed us around everywhere. I told my kids to stay away from that man, it went on for ages. He was acting so weird. He had his hands behind his back the whole time, his back to the wall, just watching people. We walked away from him then immediately when he was out of sight a woman was screaming 'My son, my son' and people were grabbing him.'

She said the suspect was tall, white and bearded
...so could be Sudden Jihad Syndrome, or just a crazy...
and became 'completely calm and silent' when detained by gallery visitors.

'He didn't fight back, didn't shout or anything,' she added. 'He was just emotionless.'

Last night it was reported that when asked why he had thrown the boy over the railing, the suspect had responded that it was the fault of social services.

Indian Kashmir Dissolved.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Authorities in Indian-administered Kashmire placed large parts of the disputed region under lockdown early Monday amid a massive troop buildup by India, which traded accusations of festivities with Pakistain at the de facto border.

The recent tensions started in the last 10 days after New Delhi deployed at least 10,000 troops, but a security source told AFP a further 70,000 had been dispatched in what is believed to be an unprecedented level.

"As per the order there shall be no movement of public and all educational institutions shall also remain closed," the state government ordered for Srinagar, the capital of Indian-administered Kashmire, and surrounding areas, in a statement obtained by AFP.

"There will be a complete bar on holding any kind of public meetings or rallies during the period of operation of this order."

Universities, schools and colleges in the Hindu-dominated Jammu were ordered to be shut, and one district in that region was placed under lockdown.

Several other major districts of the Moslem-majority state were also placed under restrictions, local media reported.

Private mobile networks, internet services and telephone landlines were cut, with only the one government-owned mobile network remained operational, an AFP news hound said.

A bigwig told AFP nearly 300 administrative officials and top security officials had been issued with satellite phones.

Before the networks were cut, senior former and current Kashmiri politician leaders tweeted that they had been put under house arrest.

"I believe I’m being placed under house arrest from midnight tonight & the process has already started for other mainstream leaders," Omar Abdullah, a former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmire, tweeted.

In downtown Srinagar, a local resident told AFP government forces threw "chili bombs" that affect respiratory systems, on empty streets.

The last time similar restrictions were imposed in the territory was in 2016 after the killing of a popular rebel leader, which sparked months of violent street protests that left nearly 100 dead.

#5  I can have that summer home now.

Next step will be entry of Indian businesses into kashmir, property sales and residentials just like any other state, and removal of 'muslim dominated' tag from the legislature. Elections will be held in two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir separately, so islamist whims announced by masjids will no longer be taken as democratic consensus.

After that comes the restoration of hindus that were driven out from the state, opening of churches that the JUD closed down, the schools that were burnt. There must remain no more muslim majority regions in India.

Move welcomed by all of India, cutting off the legs of the separatist factions and bringing the decades old Kashmir problem to the beginning of a solution.

#12

Unlike federal governments, a Union territory is administered directly by the central govt. While it can have legislative assemblies, the police and courts no longer answer to local govt. Also, the center can make any laws applicable to any state list subjects without consulting the representatives. Kashmir's administrators and local leaders thought they could enjoy the best of both worlds; procuring development budgets from the center and protection against prosecution from their special status. They became a bunch of cyclical autocrats The half of them are stooges of the Jamaats in the 'Stain. The other half are opportunist bastards of the leftist variety. who profiteered for decades from this bugbear.

All the dethroned dynasts and Pak sycophants. Some are in jail, couldn't make it to the 'garden protest'.

The division down the middle is another strategic move suggested for years by the military, to have separate commands in the occasion of a two pronged attack, against China. The war will be paced differently on both sides due to terrain and enemy capabilities and a single Northern Command will be hard pressed to run it. Also, Ladakh is primarily buddhist but the rising muslim influx has to be curbed. The population there needs only economic welfare, jobs and education. Plans are in motion to that effect. I think heavier military presence and BMD platforms, an airbase may be in the works.

Sure, 6066. Remind me when you're coming and we'll make a plan.

Ex-HK leader offers bounty for info on flag thrown into water
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Former Hong Kong Chief Executive C.Y. Leung has offered 1 million Hong Kong dollars ($127,720) to members of the public who can provide information about the person who threw the Chinese national flag into the water during a pro-democracy protest.

Leung is the predecessor of Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam, who is now facing the same calls to resign that he once confronted.

After a rally on Saturday continued past its designated end point, some protesters scaled a flag pole, removed from it the Chinese flag and flung the flag into an iconic harbor.

Leung said on his Facebook page that the act will provoke "enormous resentment from the entire nation."

He pledged the cash award to anyone who provides clues about the "insane person" behind it.

Clinton SOTU, 1995 - 'We are a nation of immigrants'
[President Bill Clinton - State of The Union 1995] All Americans, not only in the States most heavily affected but in every place in this country, are rightly disturbed by the large numbers of illegal aliens entering our country. The jobs they hold might otherwise be held by citizens or legal immigrants. The public service they use impose burdens on our taxpayers. That's why our administration has moved aggressively to secure our borders more by hiring a record number of new border guards, by deporting twice as many criminal aliens as ever before, by cracking down on illegal hiring, by barring welfare benefits to illegal aliens. In the budget I will present to you, we will try to do more to speed the deportation of illegal aliens who are arrested for crimes, to better identify illegal aliens in the workplace as recommended by the commission headed by former Congresswoman Barbara Jordan. We are a nation of immigrants. But we are also a nation of laws. It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years, and we must do more to stop it.

#2  Note the degradation since 1995 of our debate, of our use of language, of the acceptable range of public discourse on this issue.

Nothing in the statute has changed since then regarding the description and definition of those who commit illegal entry or overstay a visa. They were then and remain to this day illegal aliens per the statute.

Illegal alien is the term universally understood by the courts, lawyers, law enforcement. It highlights the fact these are NOT "IMMIGRANTS."

They are people who jumped the queue, who did the opposite of what immigrants do: they cheated, broke the law, screwed up our system and pissed on everyone else.

Second night of tear gas as Hong Kong protesters defy China warnings
[DAWN] Riot police fired tear gas at pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong Sunday evening during a second consecutive night of festivities, as China delivered fresh warnings over the unrest battering the city.

The semi-autonomous southern Chinese city is reeling from two months of protests and violence triggered by opposition to a planned extradition law that has evolved into a wider movement for democratic reforms.

In the latest unrest, police fired brief volleys of tear gas at protesters who were approaching their lines in the well-heeled Sheung Wan district.

There were also stand-offs between protesters and riot police close to the Liaison Office, the department that represents Beijing in the city.

Two weekends ago, the office was pelted with eggs and paint in a move that infuriated Beijing and sparked increasingly shrill warnings from the mainland.

Five Years on, Yazidis Remember Brutal ISIS Onslaught
[AAWSAT] Iraq's Yazidi minority held its summer festival on the weekend, five years after gunnies seized their ancestral heartland of Sinjar, in a brutal assault that still haunts the community.

On August 3, 2014, ISIS group fighters seized Mount Sinjar, and went on to slaughter thousands of Yazidi men and boys and abduct girls to be used as "sex slaves".

The United Nations
...aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society...
has said ISIS' actions could amount to genocide, and is investigating bad boy atrocities across Iraq.

On Saturday, women wearing white T-shirts paraded around Lalish temple, the Yazidis' holiest shrine, brandishing banners to commemorate the "genocide" and portraits of ISIS victims.

They were led by Hazem Tahsin Bek, who late last month was enthroned as the community's prince at a ceremony in Lalish, succeeding his father Tahsin Said Ali who died in January after a long illness.

Yazidi dignitaries in long white robes took part in the ceremony during which participants lit candles and burned special oils as part of the annual ritual to purify the temple.

"The summer festival takes place at the same time as the commemoration of the genocide that took place in Sinjar when ISIS launched its assault against the mountain," Hazem Tahsin Bek told AFP.

The 56-year-old hereditary leader is in charge of running the community and cooperating with Kurdish authorities in the north and the federal government in Baghdad.

"We are remembering all those killed during this genocide five years ago," he said.

New migrant rescue ship leaves France on first mission off Libya
[PULSE.NG] Humanitarian group SOS Mediterranee on Sunday dispatched its new rescue ship Ocean Viking from the French port of Marseille on its first mission to save migrants colonists off the coast of Libya.

The group had halted its missions with its Aquarius ship in December 2018 after they said it was blocked by some EU governments following nearly three years of operations and the rescue of 30,000 migrants colonists at sea.

Libya, caught up in civil conflict since the 2011 uprising killed dictator Moamer Qadaffy, remains a major and dangerous transit route for mostly sub-Saharan migrants colonists trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
EU states disagree on how to handle the migrants colonists and some are taking a more hardline position, turning away rescue ships as they seek to dock to drop off rescued migrants colonists.

The Ocean Viking, the successor to the Aquarius, left Marseille at 2000 GMT, according to an AFP journalist aboard the vessel.

The Ocean Viking, displaying the red and white colours of its new Norwegian flag, is expected to reach the central Mediterranean in two to three days.

"A lot of (migrant) crossings are taking place right now, that's related to the summer weather conditions but also to the situation in Libya, which has become a real trigger and explains why people are taking even more risks than before," Frederic Penard, the rescue group's operational director, said.
