The bodies of 2 Canadian murder suspects have been found after a 20-day manhunt across 5 provinces, police say
[Bus Insider] Canadian authorities said Wednesday they have discovered two bodies they believe belong to two teen murder suspects who had been on the run for nearly three weeks.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police launched a nationwide manhunt for 19-year-old Kam McLeod and 18-year-old Bryer Schmegelsky on July 19, with at least five provinces taking part in the search.

The childhood friends were suspected of killing 64-year-old Leonard Dyck, 24-year-old Chynna Deese, and 23-year-old Lucas Fowler. McLeod and Schmegelsky were charged with second-degree murder in the death of Dyck. They were suspects in the deaths of Fowler and Deese.

Two bodies believed to be McLeod and Schmegelsky were found near the shoreline of the Nelson River in Manitoba, RCMP assistant commissioner Jane MacLatchy said in a press conference on Wednesday.

It's Not Guns Or Mental Illness. The Problem Is Deeper Than That.
[We The People Daily] In reaction to the horrific mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, this weekend, many people on both sides have been engaged in the same game of slogan-shouting and cliche-spewing that always follows these kinds of things. One side says guns are the problem. The other retorts that mental illness is the real culprit. Both agree that extremist ideologies are partially to blame, but they disagree on which extremist ideology is most to blame. Round and round we go. Nothing is accomplished. Nothing changes. And lost in the fog of talking points is the hard reality of these tragedies ‐ the fact that actual, real people are dying.

It is indeed an epidemic. Mass shootings are still exceedingly rare, but the fact remains that 20 of the 27 deadliest mass shootings in American history have happened in the last 15 years. Since the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007, this country has seen 9 of the 13 deadliest shootings in its history. The worst one ever was two years ago. The second worst was the year before that. It’s true that the media tries to grossly (in multiple senses of the word) inflate mass shooting statistics by counting gang violence in the total, but the numbers are still extraordinary even without being manipulated to prove a political point. For some reason, shootings like El Paso and Dayton are way, way more common today than they were 20 years ago or anytime previous. That is not debatable. The only debatable question is why.

As for that question, we never get close to answering it because we are determined to focus the conversation around guns, mental illness, and extremism. Yes, guns obviously are part of the picture. But our existing laws, if enforced, would have prevented many of these slaughters already. We don’t need more laws. We need, rather, to utilize the ones that are already on the books. The Dayton shooter apparently was caught keeping a hit list of classmates he wanted to kill in high school. I think we can all agree that people with hit lists shouldn’t be able to obtain firearms. But that, again, is a matter for better enforcement, not additional laws. Besides, there have always been guns in this country. There have not always been this many mass shootings.

#1  The left thinks people should lose their job over a social media post that they disagree with. But felons should vote. The left thinks any sexual allegation against a man should be subject to a no due process kangaroo court. But extreme discipline infractions in public schools, especially if committed by a favored minority group should be overlooked completely. And now even GOPe squishes are ready to go down teh red flag law road, where anybody with a grievance, even if only imagined, can squawk and cause your Constitutional rights to be abrogated, again without due process.

Africa Subsaharan
Book Review: Dave George 'Carvings From The Veldt'
The most comprehensive writings on weapons of the era available today. Dave George is a gifted writer, historian, Border War Veteran, and Auzzie.
[BoerWarRifleCarvings] After seven years of research, corresponding with fellow collectors and collecting photos, and a LOT of work, the author has just completed his next pictorial history. This book will be another 345 page pictorial history that is packed with a further 338 more fascinating Boer War weapons that feature some form of 'stock art'. These include rifles, carbines and handguns - all with names, initials or decorations carved or engraved onto the stocks (such as the ZAR and OVS coat of arms). There are more amazing stories and service histories of Boers and soldiers. There is also a large variety of unit badges, along with swords, bayonets, bandoliers and ammunition. An updated list of M95 Mauser serial numbers is also featured, which illustrates just how many of these Boer rifles were named.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The Real Cause of the Shootings.
No great surprises here. However, the left still continues to blame the firearm and not the shooter...And of course Trump. They also like to pin shootings on conservatives when they can. Most shooters have psychiatric disorders. One could argue that all shooters such as those who are killing citizens are seriously mentally disturbed.
[AmericanThinker] The aftermath of the terrible recent shootings surprised no one. The apparent white nationalist sympathies of the El Paso shooter, despite his anti-Trump comments, set off a lefty firestorm of attacks on the president and the NRA. Beto O'Rourke, desperately trying to reclaim the political spotlight, was the most despicable of all in blaming Mr. Trump. Never mind: for every shooter who the media decides must have conservative thoughts, there are several leftist mass shooters. The Dayton shooter was a Liz Warren fan; the GOP baseball team shooter worked on the Bernie Sanders campaign; and the Dallas police shooter, like President Obama, was an ardent BLM-supporter. Yet no one calls out these politicians for spreading hate and creating a climate of violence.

That's because our liberal news media are interested in a story only if they can somehow twist it for their own agenda. If a tree falls in the forest, it gets reported only if they can blame Mr. Trump.

That's incredibly unhealthy for our democracy. The voters and their elected representatives are denied any kind of honest back-and-forth on the policy issues of the day by such extreme and misleading media coverage. Criticize the corrupt black leaders of American cities, and you are a racist. Deny that the mass shootings are the product of white supremacists and gun-makers, and you are even worse than a racist.

Too bad, because we actually know quite a bit about why these disturbed men become mass shooters, and it has nothing to do with their politics. Researchers, for example, have found that something like 60% of mass shooters had a mental illness. The Secret Service puts the number at 67%. (Unfortunately, the politically correct American Psychiatric Association likes to downplay these numbers, lest we "stigmatize" the mentally ill.) I suspect that these may even be lowball estimates, as, often, where the shooter died in the incident, there was not enough information left to properly diagnose a particular mental illness. My own personal experience from years in the courthouse confirms all this. Really violent, senseless acts all seem to come down to severe schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

Less than 2% of the population suffers from either or both these conditions, but they occur in over 20% of the homeless population, and chronic drug abuse makes things much worse. Marijuana, which might be tolerated by a lot of the adult population without great consequence, seems to have a terrible effect on the brains of young men with these mental diseases ‐ diseases that start to reveal themselves only in the late teens and early 20s.

The resulting high correlation among mass shooters, mental disease‐psychotic behavior, and marijuana has long been known ‐ even when they don't shoot, but bomb, like McVeigh and the Tsarnaev brothers.

Now, if the liberals have been utterly dishonest about mass shooters, sometimes we conservatives have not helped the situation if we lose the sight of the underlying drug and mental health causes and get distracted on other issues. The general breakdown of the family and traditional society, and the coarsening of the arts and entertainment the last 30 years, while lamentable, is not the reason for mass shooters. There are three more specific factors:

1.The rising levels of marijuana use among young people.
2. The ACLU's disastrous campaign to end institutionalization of the mentally ill, making it impossible to hold persons for care until they actually hurt somebody, which they often do and are then sent to prisons unequipped to treat them.
3. The media (social and conventional) hype devoted to mass shooters and the copycats they create. Disturbed young men, being outsiders and loners, are particularly inspired by the publicity and sense of power they might attain by doing a mass killing.

We should focus our efforts there. Any progress in such areas would be highly salutary for society and likely reduce the incidence of mass shootings.

Tevi Troy recently pointed out that traditionally, U.S. presidents did not want to talk about mass shootings for the very good reason that it only encouraged potential copycats, and the media respected that. Bill Clinton, though, had to feel everyone's pain, so now every shooting is a cause for public spectacle with a presidential speech.

It's probably too much at this late date for President Trump to announce that the White House will no longer respond to news about mass shootings so as not to encourage copycats ‐ or to ask media companies, especially social media firms, to voluntarily censor chatter about these incidents. (I would exempt actual print newspapers, because nobody under 60 still reads these.)

But at the very least, he should insist that any kind of new "red flag laws" should be limited to a real, medical diagnosis concerning the mental health of the accused, and if judicial supervision is found in order, it must include a rigorous and long-term program of drug testing.

When it comes to mass shootings it needs to be made clear: guns don't kill people. Political rhetoric doesn't kill people. Drug-fueled psychotics are what kill people.

#1  According to leftist logic, there should be no such thing as medical malpractice (the scalpel did it!) financial malfeasance (the pen did it!) or a bad outcome at the garage when your car is in for service (the screwdriver did it!)

#2  ...the same thing about poverty. Can't blame people who 1) do drugs and alcohol, 2) procreate before they have the means to put a roof over their own head, food on the table and clothes on their backs, 3) blow off education (see - acting white), 4) making the same self destructive and self limiting choices their parents, grand parents, great grand parents did. Fifty years of Great Society and we still have poverty, because they don't hold those accountable for their own actions but rather blame anything and everything else for the consequences.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 08/07/2019 10:29 Comments || Top||

#3  By far the most effective way to reduce the steady rise in mass shootings since 1992 would be to reduce copycattism and stop giving media coverage - any coverage at all - to the shooter.

Embargo all media mentions of the shooter's identity, all media discussion of his "cause," and treat this phenom the way we treat hostage taking.

Suspend the First Amendment in these cases.

Starve the copycats of media oxygen. At this point, only media immortality is driving this phenomenon.

We can stop this. But we have to arrest our media madness to do so.
Posted by: Lex || 08/07/2019 11:23 Comments || Top||

#4  It is NOT "to late to ask media firms to voluntarily censor chatter about shootings."

These incidents are driven by copycat behavior, so there is a clear and present public interest in suppressing the proximate cause of such behavior.

The First Amendment is not a suicide pact.

Sister of Slain El Paso Couple Blasts Local Dems for Not Welcoming Trump to their City
[PJMedia] The sister of a couple that was shot to death during the rampage at a Walmart in El Paso on Saturday lashed out at unnamed local Democrat politicians for saying that President Trump is not welcome in their city. Trump plans to visit both Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday, where he is expected to meet with local officials, first responders, and survivors of the shootings in each city.

Andre and Jordan Anchondo were slaughtered while shielding their two-month-old son from the killer’s gunfire. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for the couple's three children.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, their sister, Vibora (Deborah) Anchondo, angrily upbraided the Democrats, calling them "monsters" who "do not deserve to be mentioned by name." She also called the politicians "pure evil" for turning the president's visit "into a political issue."

"It’s such a shame that two of our local politicians (I refuse to say their names as they don’t deserve it) are saying that our President is not welcome on Wednesday," Anchondo wrote on Facebook. "I cannot believe how these monsters are using the tragic event to push their political agenda."
She isn't wrong.

Expect her to be doxxed and threatened by the fascists

#2  What Trump should do, but probably won't, is call out every demagogue that is claiming he "isn't welcome" here or there. He should point out this is America and all American citizens enjoy the right of free passage to any part of the country they choose to visit. Then he should point out it's hypocritical for them to claim an American is not welcome on any part of American soil while they simultaneously claim non-Americans have some nebulous mystical right to be here. I bet it would quiet them down. It would be a riot watching the media try to figure out how to spin it.

Instead, he'll focus on the victims, and he'll get roasted for that too...

Dem Rep. Joaquin Castro: Here's A List Of The Names Of Max Trump Donors From My Hometown, To Do With As You Wish
Note that this is Joaquin, not Julian. The former is a congressman from San Antonio, the latter is his identical twin brother, the former mayor. Julian's the one running for president.

Now that we've gotten that straight: Is this A-hole out of his mind?

Joaquin Castro

@Castro4Congress

Sad to see so many San Antonians as 2019 maximum donors to Donald Trump ‐ the owner of @BillMillerBarBQ , owner of the ⁦
@HistoricPearl, realtor Phyllis Browning, etc⁩.

Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as ;invaders.;

"Not surprised a Castro would go after political dissidents like this," sniffed Siraj Hashmi.

I won’t reproduce the entire tweet as I don’t want to republish the identifying information. Suffice it to say that there’s a list attached with the names ‐ and employers ‐ of 44 people from San Antonio who gave the maximum allowable by law to Trump. Many are retirees. They aren’t all rich, I’d bet: The max individual donation to a campaign under federal law is just $2,700, a sizable amount but one within the means of someone who’s middle-class, has a nest egg, and is very enthusiastic about a politician. Castro’s not targeting people who can afford their own private security, in other words. He’s leading the most rabid anti-Trumpers, the sort of people who’d very much care to know who’s donating to Trump, right to the office doors of the "offenders."

"If a Republican member did this," tweeted Luke Thompson, "it would lead the nightly news." Unquestionably. We were reminded of the truth of that statement just a few hours ago, in fact. Sarah Palin’s defamation suit against the Times stems from the fact that the "crosshairs" electoral map she published before the 2010 midterms was cited ‐ baselessly ‐ by liberals afterward as possible inspiration for Giffords’s shooter. For the left, scapegoating Palin was a way of making a point about how political rhetoric can amount to incitement when it gets hot enough and when specific people are designated as targets for it. We must be careful with what we say, and of whom we say it, lest damaged minds take the wrong cue and lash out.

Now, on the day Palin’s defamation suit was cleared to proceed by a federal court, here’s a Democratic congressman publishing his own list of "targets" ‐ not of politicians before an election, but of average citizens. He has every reason to know what’s in store for them as a result, at a minimum boycotts of their businesses and almost certainly physical threats. Doubtless he’s received some threats himself over the years, and when he did Castro could call upon the Capitol Police for special protection. Whom do the Trump voters on his list turn to?

And how many of them live in Castro’s own district, I wonder? Bad enough that you’d find any congressman organizing a boycott ‐ and worse ‐ of you because of your political donations. Imagine if it turned out to be your own congressman.

Trump’s campaign spokesman is incensed, and rightly so:

You are close. Castro outed Trump donors IN HIS DISTRICT. He took the overall Dem attack strategy of blaming Trump and blamed it on Trump supporters in CASTRO'S district.

This was to improve his own political strength and power by attempting to eliminate opposition danger relative to him, not the victims of El Paso, Ohio, California, hopefully without exposing this, his true motive.

The Dayton shooter had an extreme left Twitter feed
[CNN] A Twitter account that appears to belong to Dayton shooter Connor Betts retweeted extreme left-wing and anti-police posts as well as tweets supporting the violent protest group Antifa.

The most recent tweet on the @iamthespookster account was on Aug. 3, the day of the shooting, when he retweeted a post saying, "Millenials have a message for the Joe Biden generation: hurry up and die." He also retweeted support for Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren.

Under the Twitter handle @iamthespookster, the user description says, "He/him / anime fan / metalhead / leftist / I’m going to hell and I’m not coming back." One tweet used the hashtag #HailSatan.

In the hours before the Dayton shooting, the account "liked" several tweets about the El Paso shooting, including one supporting gun control and others that called the El Paso shooting suspect a "terrorist," and a "white supremacist."

The account also retweeted posts against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, including one that said, "These people are monsters," as well as multiple posts condemning police, and supporting Antifa. There were also many tweets of selfies, photos with a friend and ordinary memes and non-political content.

The account is no longer active, but Twitter would not confirm to CNN whether it had removed the account, only saying in a statement, "We're proactively removing content that violates our policies and will be engaged with law enforcement, as appropriate."

Pro Second Amendment people should toss this right back by always saying "That (mass shooter) nutbag doesn't speak or act for me!" Of course, the NRA is currently too busy wallowing in an internal flustercluck to put such a message out there.

Democratic Socialist Convention Forced To Communicate Via Interpretive Dance To Avoid Offending Any Attendees
[Babylon Bee] ATLANTA, GA‐The 2019 National Convention of the Democratic Socialists of America got off to a good start, with presenters, speakers, and DSA leaders giving inspiring speeches and policy papers while being really, really careful not to use any gendered language.

But the complaints began to roll in from attendees anyway.

Eventually, one attendee, who identifies as an owlbear, stood up and bellowed into a microphone, "POINT OF PERSONAL PRIVILEGE: LANGUAGE ITSELF REPRESENTS SPECIES SUPREMACY AND IS VERY TRIGGERING TO ME," threatening the entire convention. After a brief pantomimed discussion, conference organizers came up with a solution: they would just use interpretative dance.

Conference speakers then gave speeches calling for the death of capitalism and the seizure of the means of production entirely by coordinated dance numbers. One particularly powerful dance entitled "The Blood Flows from the Animal Farm and It Is Delicious" had dancers reenact the Bolshevik Revolution. It would have garnered a standing ovation, but standing is considered ableism, so it only got jazz hands. Then a man without hands performed a scathing solo dance routine to inform everyone that jazz hands were very triggering to him. Everyone tried to apologize with sign language but only made things worse.

Finally, the convention was brought to a standstill when a white girl said dancing in rhythm with a song was offensive to her culture.

Mass Shootings: The Elephant in the Room
[American Thinker] America desperately needs to have a conversation, and it’s very different than the one we have been having when reflecting on mass murders. Despite the hysteria that these events cause, there is no significant upwards trend. These crimes have been a part of the public sphere in the U.S. since the country’s inception. While most studies reflect the better-recorded data in the latter half of the 20th century, mass killings were just as prevalent in the 1920s and 30s, although the use of a firearm was less common.

Sometime in the last few decades, Americans have lost to ability to think rationally about mass killings. We are collectively trying to blame some other factor besides the individuals themselves. However, access to guns has never been cited as a reason for a mass shooting and mass killings share no correlation in ideology. No one political party, no one race or ethnicity, no one religion, etc. is a constant factor, but there are specific commonalities between mass shooters that are never widely discussed over the calls for gun control and party reform.

There are five stages that culminate in a perfect storm that leads to individuals committing these massacres (also known as the Levin & Madfis model). This is gravely important for our society to know, as identifying these factors can lead to prevention of these atrocities.

#2  Early reporting is often inaccurate, and is overall plain harmful.

This is because "reporting" in the modern sense is not about documenting objective facts on the ground, it is about pushing "the narrative." If facts don't line up with the narrative, the facts are memory holed and the narrative is doubled down upon.

Boy Scouts have a 'pedophile epidemic' and are hiding hundreds in its ranks, lawyers claim
[ABC] The Boy Scouts of America are continuing to cover-up a "pedophilia epidemic within their organization," a group of lawyers alleged Tuesday in a new lawsuit.

The Abused in Scouting lawyers said they've identified 350 previously unknown scoutmasters and volunteers who allegedly preyed on boys ‐ and whose names were not known to law enforcement or in the BSA's internal database, which critics have called "perversion files."

"You can't look at these files and not come to the conclusion that this was a massive problem that was hidden," attorney Tim Kosnoff said at a press conference.

"We know that when a pedophile abuses a victim, it's not just one," added attorney Stewart Eisenberg. "So each of the 350 abusers have dozens of other victims who have not come forward."

The revelation that the lawyers had identified a small army who they claim are previously unknown scout sex abusers was contained in the lawsuit filed Monday in Philadelphia by a Pennsylvania man identified only as "J.D." who claims he was assaulted "hundreds" of times over a span of four years in the 1970s.

J.D., who lives in Wilkes-Barre, identified his attacker in the lawsuit as Paul Antosh, who also lives in the Pennsylvania city.

Philippines declares epidemic after more than 600 die from dengue fever
[The Hill] The Philippines declared a national epidemic Tuesday after an outbreak of dengue fever killed more than 622 people this year.

There have been more than 146,062 cases of dengue recorded between January and June 20, according to the country’s health department. The department said that the number of recorded cases is 98 percent higher than the same period in 2018.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque said it was important for local areas to access national funds to treat the outbreak and provide a "localized response" in a Tuesday news release. During the week of July 14 to July 20, the country documented 10,502 cases, 71 percent higher than the same period in 2018.

The Western Visayas area of the country was hit hardest, with more than 23,000 documented cases. There were also large outbreaks in Calabarzon, the Zamboanga Peninsula and Northern Mindanao. The Health Department said Tuesday it is launching a program aimed at destroying mosquito breeding sites.

Urban rodentologist Bobby Corrigan explains city rat problem
[Washington Examiner] Are there more rats in Washington, D.C., or Baltimore?
actual rats vs Rat Bastards™?
Experts say there's no way to know.

As rats in East Coast cities have found their way into the news, residents and politicians have debated the rodents' prevalence.

President Trump pointed to the vermin last month as he took aim at Rep. Elijah Cummings and Baltimore, calling the Democrat's home city a "rat and rodent infested mess."

Since the dispute, debate has swirled over which city has the biggest rat problem, with residents of Washington, D.C., and New York City complaining about encountering numerous rats roaming the streets.

But urban rodentologist Bobby Corrigan, who told an audience in D.C. on Tuesday "Rats are my life," said the debate is most prevalent in the Boston to D.C. corridor, which includes Hartford, Connecticut, New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.

"The answer is all of those cities have a lot of rats because all the trade ships coming from Europe were pulling into these cities," Corrigan said. "Is Baltimore or D.C. really the worst rat-infested city? It would have to be measured by some kind of study, which, there is none."

He added that the only way to estimate which cities have higher rodent populations is by gauging the age and socioeconomic status of certain areas of the city, nothing more.

"As cities get old, the older they get without infrastructural resources, they're going to be, without a doubt, more vulnerable to rat populations," he said. This vulnerability is a direct result of cracked foundations of buildings that rodents can squeeze through and sewers not being replaced when necessary.

There is zero scientific evidence that there are more rats in one city than the next, experts say.

Dr. LaQuandra Nesbitt, the director of the D.C. Department of Health, said that there is no such thing as a "rodent census," therefore it is impossible to know how many rodents reside in a city.

"It's hard to get people to understand that when we get these reports that come out that say, 'D.C. has the worst rodent population in the country,'" said Nesbitt, "that it's a function of the pest controllers and how many requests go to pest controllers."

The number of rats in various cities was just one of the rat-related myths Corrigan busted in his talk. Rats don't follow walls, they're not bigger or more brazen than in years past, they're not becoming immune to poisons, and cities can't poison their way out of a rat problem.

Humans, Corrigan said, are the real problem.

"Sanitation is rat control," said Corrigan. "If you do not want rats, do not give them food. The public thinks just put out some bait in my yard and take care of this, please. They don't want to hear a lecture on, you know, you could use a better trash can."

Nesbitt echoed this idea. "Get rid of the things they don't want to eat, then we have less things for them to do," she said.

"You can't just hire 300 exterminators, give them buckets of bait and say get out there and kill a bunch of rats," said Corrigan. "We've been doing that for 250 years in America."

If you see rats as a result of construction, Corrigan said, those rats were most certainly already there. Subways or trains don't cause them, either.

"Subways are not a major player for rats," he said. "They're not a great environment for rats. The public actually thinks subways are a secret rat city because of the dark tunnels."

Instead, Corrigan said that sewers are the number one reservoir for rats, which is where all the disease carried by rodents comes from.

Scott Mullaney, the director of animal services and principal at UNIQUE Pest Management, which uses dogs to help hunt and control rat populations, agreed with Corrigan's claim that the actual amount of rats can't be calculated or differentiated.

"We've done hundreds of jobs in both Baltimore and D.C., and it doesn't make a difference," Mullaney said. "There's such nasty areas in both parts."

As far as the president's claim of Baltimore being rat-infested, Corrigan said he believes Trump was "just being colloquial."

"It's just too loosely said, quite frankly. I've spent a lot of hours myself doing surveys and inspections in both cities. It has nothing to do with technical science at all, those comments," he said.

Israel involved in US-led naval mission in Strait of Hormuz — foreign minister
[IsraelTimes] Israel Katz quoted telling Knesset committee that Israeli participation helping counter Iran, boost ties with Gulf states.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Tuesday that Israel was involved in a US-led naval mission to provide maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
recently seized merchant ships.

Speaking at a closed session of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Katz said Israel was assisting the mission with intelligence and other unspecified fields, the Ynet news reported.

He said the mission was in Israel’s strategic interest of countering Iran and boost ties with Gulf countries.

According to the Israeli news site, Katz told the committee that he instructed his ministry to work to include Israel in the mission after a recent visit to Abu Dhabi. The foreign minister was said to have discussed this at the time with an unnamed senior Emirati official, with whom he discussed the "Iranian threat."

Katz also reportedly praised Britannia’s announcement Monday that it would join the mission, making it the only country so far to officially do so.

The report did not specify whether Katz said Israel would send naval vessels to take part in the US-led mission. A report from the Kan public broadcaster last month said that Israel was not expected to send ships, but would provide intelligence.

The United States has thus far struggled to piece together an international coalition to protect cargo ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz, with allies concerned about being dragged into conflict with Iran.

But even as ships were seized in the narrow maritime thoroughfare, countries have been reticent about a US plan to send in military escorts.

On Sunday, Australia became the latest ally seeming to give the plan a wide berth.

Australian Defense Minister Linda Reynolds told the visiting US secretaries of state and defense that their "very serious" and "complex" request would be given "very serious consideration" ‐ but stopped short of offering a full response.

Washington floated the idea of a naval coalition in June, after multiple attacks on ships in the Gulf, which the United States had blamed on Iran ‐ but which Tehran denies.

The plan was to have each country provide a military escort for its ships, with US military providing a security backstop, monitoring the zone of operations and providing command and control.

Mark Esper, the US defense secretary, said the United States had gotten "various degrees of response," adding "I think there’ll be some announcements coming out in the coming days."

Referencing the prospect of Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an-only cooperation, Esper plaid down a bifurcation of effort.

"I think the purpose remains the same whether it’s an operation conducted under the United States command and control, or conducted by somebody else, a European partnership," he said.

Gay Paree, Berlin and London plan to coordinate and share information in the Gulf to reinforce maritime security, but without deploying additional assets, according to French Defense Minister Florence Parly.

Germany has distanced itself from a military operation in the Strait of Hormuz, considering it could hinder European efforts to reach a diplomatic solution with Iran.

Shin Bet busts Hamas cell planning Jerusalem bombing attack

The Shin Bet security service on Tuesday said it thwarted plans by Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, members from Hebron to conduct a bombing attack in Jerusalem earlier this summer, retrieving the three-kilogram (6.6 pounds) bomb they intended to use.

The Shin Bet said the cell, along with others arrested by Israeli forces in recent months, had been directed to carry out attacks against Israeli and Paleostinian Authority targets by Hamas’s military wing in the Gazoo

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
After failed Idlib truce: Russian air strikes and gov’t vs Nusra fire exchanged, leaving 7 civilians dead
[AnNahar] Pro-government forces and opposition fighters exchanged fire in northwest Syria on Tuesday, killing seven civilians, a war monitor said, after Damascus scrapped a ceasefire.

A Friday truce was supposed to protect three million people living in the Idlib region after three months of deadly bombardment.

But jihadists running the region on Saturday refused to comply with a key condition to that truce, declaring they would never withdraw from a planned buffer zone around the area.

On Monday, Damascus declared the truce over, accusing its opponents of attacking civilian areas and bombarding an air base of its ally Russia.

On Tuesday, Russian air strikes on the town of Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province killed four civilians, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

In two government-held villages in Hama province, rocket fire by jihadist groups and allied rebels took the lives of three civilians including a child, the Britannia-based monitor said.

Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said however that air strikes were not as intense as the previous day.

After the truce was scrapped on Monday, regime barrel bombs killed four civilians in the town of Morek in the northern Hama region, the Observatory said.

During the truce, air raids had stopped but land-to-land fire continued, killing one civilian on each side, according to the monitor.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
, a jihadist group led by Syria's former al-Qaeda affiliate, has since January controlled most of Idlib province as well as adjacent parts of the Hama, Aleppo and Latakia governorates.

Other rebels and jihadists are also present.

A Ottoman Turkish-Russian deal struck in September last year was supposed to avert a massive government offensive on Idlib.

But that deal was never fully implemented as jihadists refused to withdraw from the planned demilitarized cordon.

Instead, heightened attacks by the regime and Russia have killed 800 civilians and pushed 400,000 people from their homes since the end of April, according to the U.N.

Syria's conflict has killed more than 370,000 people and driven millions from their homes since it started with the brutal repression of anti-government protests in 2011.

Bassil: Everyone in Lebanon is Hizbullah Partner
[AnNahar] Free Patriotic Movement
Despite its name a Christian party allied with Hizbullah, neither free nor particularly patriotic...
chief and Foreign Minister Jebran Bassil has noted that "everyone in Leb is a partner of Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
," not only the FPM.

Admitting that his movement’s alliance with the Iran-backed party has been "costly," Bassil told Euronews: "Our partnership with Hizbullah has been costly at the popular and diplomatic levels, but we have gained Leb’s stability and unity, because Hizbullah is a part of a people and not an gang."

"This partnership is not limited to the FPM, seeing as everyone in Leb is a partner of Hizbullah, as proved by the presence of a national unity government," Bassil added, pointing out that "we have no other choice but civil war."

"We can’t accept the classification of Hizbullah as a terrorist organization, as designated by Washington and one can’t compare between Hizbullah and the other groups that entered into the conflict arena in Syria," the FPM chief went on to say.

Bassil also said that the U.S. sanctions on Hizbullah are harmful to Leb and that the Lebanese government is exerting efforts to have them lifted.

Separately, Bassil acknowledged that Leb is reeling from a "severe" economic crisis but reassured that "the country is not on the brink of bankruptcy and collapse thanks to an adopted economic plan that has started to yield results through the decrease in the treasury’s deficit."

Arabia
U.N. Accuses Yemeni Forces of Attacks against Northerners
“Yew ain’t from around these here parts ayr ya, stranger?”
[AnNahar] The U.N.'s human rights
When they're defined by the state or an NGO they don't mean much...
office on Tuesday accused southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
i security forces of perpetrating "retaliatory attacks" against citizens from the country's north.

"We have received information from multiple sources about arbitrary arrests and detention, forced displacement, physical assaults and harassment," spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said in a statement.

She said the UAE-backed Security Belt forces are "reportedly carrying out and enabling retaliatory attacks against civilians" originating from northern Yemen.

The United Arab Emirates is part of a Saudi-led military coalition backing the U.N.-recognized government against Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s
in the country's conflict.

Shamdasani said the alleged targeting of northerners is "apparent retaliation" for deadly attacks last week by jihadists and the Iran-aligned rebels.

At least 49 people were killed in two separate attacks Thursday in government-held Aden, on Yemen's southern coast.

The first was a suicide boom-mobileing carried out by jihadists on a cop shoppe, which was followed by a Huthi assault targeting newly trained police cadets, officials said.

A day later, al-Qaeda button men killed 19 soldiers in an attack on an army base in southern Yemen, according to security officials.

The UN human rights office cited reports suggesting "security forces searched hotels and restaurants, stopping people, demanding their identification, and rounding up those hailing from the northern parts of Yemen."

"We are continuing to gather... details of the violations they have been subjected to, but initial reports suggest hundreds have already been displaced," said Shamdasani.

"Such arrests and forced displacements breach international human rights and humanitarian law," she added.

Yemen's Prime Minister Moeen Abdulmalik Saeed on Sunday decried "violations of citizens' rights", in a Twitter post warning of negative repercussions for Yemeni unity.

Yemen has been at war for more than four years.

The Huthis control the capital Sanaa and most cities in northern, central and western regions, while the government maintains a makeshift capital in Aden.

In the south, where secessionists claim independence, there is strong resentment of citizens from the north.

Southern Yemen was an independent state until 1990 and the north is perceived to have imposed unification by force.

Authorities believe southern insurgents behind Bangkok blasts
[Bernama] Southern insurgents are believed responsible for the series of bombings in the Bangkok last Friday, Thai authorities said. Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said police believed a mastermind was behind the blasts but have yet to establish if they were politically motivated.

“The incidents were planned. We are in the process to trace how they (suspects) travelled and where they got the bombs from,” he told the media after his weekly cabinet meeting today. He said police have not ruled out any motive for the blasts which involved “many” people.

Prawit, who oversees security matters, briefed the cabinet on the explosions, which rocked the capital at a time when it was hosting the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Post Ministerial Conferences and Related Meetings.

Last Friday, police found nine bombs, including some unexploded devices, at five locations after several small explosions left hurt four people.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan o-cha said police had arrested seven suspects in connection with the bombings. He did not disclose when and where they were arrested.

So far nine suspects have been arrested. The other two men from Narathiwat were arrested for allegedly planting explosive devices on the sidewalk near the Royal Thai Police headquarters in Rama I Road in Bangkok on Thursday evening.

Drug dealer who tried to escape Brazil prison by dressing up as daughter is found dead
[NYPOST] The Brazilian narco who tried to make a prison break by disguising himself as his teenage daughter was found dead in his cell, local authorities said.

Clauvino da Silva, 42, apparently hanged himself Tuesday at a Rio de Janeiro prison just three days after he was busted in an elaborate escape attempt, the Rio Times reported.

The convicted drug pusher ‐ who also went by "Shorty" ‐ made headlines over the weekend for trying to walk out the front door of the maximum-security prison while impersonating his 19-year-old daughter, who was visiting him.

He was caught by prison guards who stopped him because he was acting nervous during the visit, authorities said.

Viral footage showed the tattooed inmate remove his over-the-top costume, which involved a silicone face mask, long black wig, glasses and a pink T-shirt that belonged to the teen.

Authorities said they’re launching an investigation into da Silva’s apparent suicide.

Now the whoĺe family's lives are toast. The guards told him so. To gain his 19 year old daughter and hïs wïfe redemption, he hangs himself.

In Brazil the bond between family members is extraordinary. It is amazing to behold in this age and time.

...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
turban group has been left with as much as $300 million following the loss of its so-called "caliphate" in Iraq and Syria, "with none of the financial demands of controlling territory and population," Secretary-General António Guterres said in a report released Monday.

The report to the Security Council on the threat posed by IS warns that the lull in attacks directed by the murderous Moslem group "may be temporary."

Last week, UN experts said in another report to the council that IS leaders are aiming to consolidate and create conditions for an "eventual resurgence in its Iraqi and Syrian heartlands." It said the current lull in attacks "may not last long, possibly not even until the end of 2019."

Guterres said in the new report that while the loss of territory ended the Islamic State group’s ability to generate revenue from oil fields and local people, IS is believed to be capable of directing funds to support "terrorist acts" within Iraq and Syria and abroad. It said informal money transfer businesses known as "hawaladars" are the most common method.

He said looted antiquities from Iraq may be another source of revenue for IS, also known as ISIS, and returnees from the conflict said there was a special unit responsible for selling such objects.

"Details of antiquities traded and the current location of any stored antiquities are assessed to be known only to ISIS leaders," he said.

But the secretary-general said the Islamic State group is also encouraging increased financial self-sufficiency throughout its network of supporters and affiliates elsewhere in the Mideast, Africa and Asia.

Guterres said the evolution of a covert IS network in Iraq at the provincial level since 2017 is being mirrored in Syria, with attacks increasing in government-controlled areas.

IS personnel, including some senior figures, "are also reported to have taken refuge in governorates where hostilities are ongoing," the UN report said.

IS insurgency activity in Iraq, including the burning of crops, "is designed to prevent normalization and reconstruction, in the hope that the local population will ultimately blame the Iraqi authorities," Guterres said. "A similar approach is anticipated in the Syrian Arab Republic."

The report also highlights the continuing concerns posed by returning IS fighters and their families.

It cited estimates by several unnamed countries that an average of 25% of imported muscle were killed and 15% are unaccounted for.

"Set against an approximate initial figure of 40,000 who joined the ’caliphate,’ these percentages would suggest that between 24,000 and 30,000 foreign terrorist fighters are alive," the report said.

UN human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
chief Michelle Bachelet said in late June that more than 55,000 suspected IS fighters and their families have been detained in Iraq and Syria. Most are in the custody of the Iraqi government and the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, and the alleged fighters come from over 50 countries. More than 11,000 relatives of the fighters are being held at the Al Hol camp in northeastern Syria alone, she said.

The secretary-general warned that "the threats posed in the short-term by adult detainees and in the medium to long-term by minors who are often traumatized and may become increasingly radicalized have the potential to grow more serious, with consequences for social integration and the potential risk of violence, including possible terrorist attacks in the future."

Guterres said the UN system is ready to assist countries in reintegrating and rehabilitating men, women and kiddies who are stranded, especially in conflict zones.
And yet somehow Mr. Guterres makes the idea of reintegrating such people sound extremely unwise...

John Bolton unveils historic asset freeze on Venezuela's Maduro regime
Another turn of the screw...
[Washington Examiner] President Trump is intensifying sanctions on Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro, pairing a historic asset freeze with threats to punish anyone in the world who does business with his regime.

"We are sending a signal to third parties that want to do business with the Maduro regime: Proceed with extreme caution," White House national security adviser John Bolton said Tuesday. "There is no need to risk your business interests with the United States for the purposes of profiting from a corrupt and dying regime."

That warning, which Bolton delivered in Peru at a conference of 50 nations aligned against Maduro's dictatorship, could lead to expanded sanctions against Russian and Chinese companies providing Maduro financial and logistical support, as well as any European companies still doing business with the regime. The executive order authorizing those sanctions was hailed by opposition leader Juan Guaidó ‐ whom Trump and other Western leaders recognized as the legitimate interim president in January ‐ as negotiations to schedule elections have been at an impasse with Maduro’s refusal to agree to leave office.

"Any individual, company, institution or nation that tries to do business with the regime will be seen by the international justice system as collaborating with and sustaining a dictatorship," Guaidó tweeted after Trump signed the order Monday night. "They will be subject to sanctions and considered an accomplice to crimes."

The executive order prevents the Maduro regime’s international creditors from taking control of Citgo, the Venezuelan state-owned oil company’s U.S. affiliate, as payment for the regime’s debts. "Today there is no possibility of losing Citgo," Guaidó added Tuesday.

The Grand Turk
Stay out of Syria, US defense chief tells Erdogan
[ARABNEWS] A military offensive by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
against Kurdish forces in northeast Syria would be "unacceptable" and the US would act to prevent it, the Pentagon warned on Tuesday.

The warning came after Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
renewed threats to drive US-backed Kurdish militia away from its border, because Ankara considers them a terrorist threat to its security.

"Turkey cannot feel safe as long as this structure along our southern border, which is growing like a cancer, is not eliminated," he said. "If we don’t do what is necessary today, we will have to do so by paying a high price later."

The threats drew a sharp response from US Defense Secretary Mark Esper. "Clearly we believe any unilateral action by them would be unacceptable," he said. "What we’re going to do is prevent unilateral incursions."

The US and Turkey have been in talks for months about a "safe zone" in northern Syria east of the Euphrates River, but discussions have ground to a halt because they cannot agree on its scope.

Turkey is demanding a long strip of land extending 32 km into Syria, over which it would have full control. "The US can never agree to that," said Aaron Stein, director of the Middle East program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, a US think tank.

James Jeffrey, the US special envoy for Syria, said: "The Turks want a deeper zone than the one we think makes sense." Instead the US has proposed a two-tiered zone, with a 5 km demilitarized strip and a further 9 km area cleared of heavy weapons.

Turkey has sent troops into northwest Syria twice in the past three years, but an incursion east of the Euphrates would mean confronting the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, armed and backed by the US in the fight against ISIS, and risking direct engagement with US troops.

Nevertheless, an offensive seems imminent. "For some time, Turkey’s armed forces have deployed on the Syrian border. All the necessary preparations for an operation are complete," a senior Ottoman Turkish official said.

In a sign of these preparations, parts of the security wall between Turkey and Syria were removed on Monday night to the west of Kobani in eastern Aleppo.

Turkey was using the threat of an invasion to push for a deal on the border zone that suits its interests, said Jesse Marks, a Middle East analyst and Fulbright scholar at Cambridge University. "Over the past six months of negotiations, Ottoman Turkish invasion rhetoric has intensified in periods of political impasse."

Turkey’s tests of wills in northern Syria
[Rudaw] President Erdogan’s heightened rhetoric over northeastern Syria during the last two weeks indicates The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
intends to invade the area soon. On Sunday Mr. Erdogan said: "We entered Afrin, Jarablus, al-Bab. Now we will enter the (area) east of the Euphrates. We shared this (information) with Russia and the US. As long as harassment fire continues, we cannot remain silent."

Despite Turkish propaganda to the contrary, the Turkish-Syria border in the northeast of Syria remains a good deal calmer and violence free than the Gaza-Israel or Lebanon-Israel border. What Turkey actually wants in the area is therefore not a safe zone but the complete elimination of the Kurdish-led de facto autonomous cantons and a place to resettle the 3.6 million Syrian refugees currently in Turkey.
According to the Daily Sabah: "The Ottoman Turkish military has recently increased its deployment near the Syrian border, including heavy weaponry, armored vehicles and tanks, as it prepares for an imminent offensive against the PKK terror group’s Syrian branch the People’s Protection Units (YPG)."

From Canada with hate: Terror sympathizer Tariq Abdelhaleem
[ARABNEWS] It may seem strange that a prominent Sunni Salafi jihadist and preacher of hate has lived unmolested in the West since the 1980s. Yet Dr. Tariq Abdelhaleem probably sees nothing odd at all about promoting Islamic radicalism while enjoying the hospitality of Canada.

He is an unabashed proponent of the ideas of two major Salafi revivalists of the last century: Syed Abul ’Ala Maududi, the Pak author and activist, and Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian theorist of violent jihad.

Abdelhaleem’s regressive views on women offer a window into his mind. "The secular West has dangerously affected our society and Islamic concepts through its cultural legacy, despite the widespread veiling of Arab women," he has said. "To see the deep impact of Western culture on Arab societies, it is enough to look at the phenomena of unveiling and debauchery."

...Oh, noze! Not him!...
‐ filed a lawsuit Tuesday charging that the bureau caved to "unrelenting pressure" from the president when it fired him.

The suit from Peter Strzok also alleges he was unfairly punished for expressing his political opinions, and that the Justice Department violated his privacy when it shared hundreds of his text messages with news hounds.

"The campaign to publicly vilify Special Agent Strzok contributed to the FBI’s ultimate decision to unlawfully terminate him," said the lawsuit, filed in federal court in Washington, DC, "as well as to frequent incidents of public and online harassment and threats of violence to Strzok and his family that began when the texts were first disclosed to the media and continue to this day."

The complaint, which names Attorney General William Barr and FBI Director Chris Wray as defendants, revives a controversy that conservative critics of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation called proof that the FBI was biased against Trump.

China-Japan-Koreas
US Ends Visa-Free Entry for Visitors to North Korea
Another turn of the screw...
[AnNahar] Washington on Monday revoked visa-free entry rights to the United States for foreigners who have visited North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
in the past eight years, potentially dealing a new blow to the isolated country's nascent tourist industry.

The US allows citizens of 38 countries -- including South Korea, Japan and La Belle France -- to enter for up to 90 days without a visa under a waiver programme.

But visitors who have travelled to eight countries including North Korea since March 1, 2011 are "no longer eligible", details posted Monday on the US Customs and Border Protection website showed, and they will have to apply for tourist or business visas.

The other seven countries -- most of them in the Middle East -- were already on the exclusion list.

The change will affect tens of thousands of people from visa waiver countries who have gone to the North as tourists or for other purposes in recent years.

It will also put a damper on South Korean President Moon Jae-in's hopes of promoting cross-border tourism projects for his citizens to visit their nuclear-armed neighbour.

South Korean media put the spotlight on top business leaders including Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong who were part of Moon's delegation to Pyongyang for a summit with North Korean leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
in September.

A Samsung spokesperson declined to comment.

US citizens have been banned from visiting North Korea since 2017, a measure introduced after an American student detained in Pyongyang was released in a coma and died a few days later.

Afghanistan
Taliban denounce Afghan election, warn that rallies face attack
[DAWN] The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
on Tuesday denounced as a sham a presidential election due next month, saying their fighters would do everything they could to block it, while urging people to stay away from rallies that could be attacked.

The warning came as both the United States and the Taliban reported progress in talks on a deal that is expected to bring a US commitment to withdraw its troops in exchange for a Taliban promise the country will not be used to plot terrorist attacks.

The Taliban called for a boycott of the election scheduled for Sept 28, and said foreign powers should instead focus on the effort to negotiate the deal with the US on "ending the occupation of Afghanistan".

"This election process is nothing more than a ploy to deceive the common people ... for satisfying the ego of a limited number of sham politicians," the Taliban said in a statement.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
is widely expected to win a second term and has insisted the vote must go ahead as scheduled.

The US-trained former World Bank official came to power in 2014 after winning a bitterly disputed election marred by accusations of cheating.

The Taliban said their fighters would block the vote and warned of attacks. "To prevent losses ... from being incurred by our fellow compatriots, they must stay away from gatherings and rallies that could become potential targets," the murderous Moslems said.

India-Pakistan
IHK’s grim reality
[DAWN] THE dire predictions of Kashmire observers and human rights
One man's rights are another man's existential threat.
groups have proved correct. The special status given to India-held Kashmire under Article 370 of the Indian constitution has been all but removed through a resolution in the upper house of parliament, in a move to avoid the lawful route of a constitutional amendment. India is poised to forcibly convert Indian Kashmiree into a Union Territory in violation of all its commitments, including those made at the UN.

The resolution and a presidential order were used to deprive the Jammu & Kashmire assembly of the right to have a say in any changes desired in its status. Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the pilot and the copilot had both hit the silk.
Jack! Cynthia exclaimed. Do you know how to drive one of these things?
Jack wiped some of the blood from his knuckles.
No, he said. Do you?...

a bill in parliament called for separating Ladakh from J&K, but if this amounted to justifying the division of areas on the basis of faith, it was not something that the BJP leaders were likely to lose sleep over, reassured of their own powers of intimidation after their election win earlier this year. Not just that, they also drew strength from India’s image in the international community as a prospering capitalist model.
as well as Pak's decreasing status and dimwitted leader, Khhhhaaan!
The changes reduce IHK to the status of a colony. The special status the region enjoyed since 1954 was basically a measure that guarded against any attempt at changing the demography of an overwhelmingly Moslem Kashmire. Its abolition could mean an invasion of the Valley sponsored by the BJP in its current belligerent mood.

The move will have violent consequences. The Kashmiris have shown in recent months that, although abandoned by many supporters, their ability to take on the might of the occupiers has far from diminished. In fact, it is the subterfuge, the force, the tricks employed by the BJP that have stoked the fires.

Pakistain has vowed to campaign against the new developments, which the world must have known were in the making. Serious concern of the latest Indian action in IHK was being expressed for some time. Paks will be asking their government as to what exactly transpired, and in precisely what context did Kashmire feature, at the recent meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan
... aka The Great Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
and President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
Indeed, Islamabad is being advised to link its support for the normalisation of Afghanistan in a post-American pullout scenario with Kashmire. That is easier said than done given the current sense of global indifference towards IHK. The world watched in silence as thousands of troops moved into the disputed occupied valley in recent days. Few took notice ‐ even though there may be no cruder version of how a majority living by the tenets of an ideology built on fear of a minority than the one present today in Kashmire.

The hatred inherent in such a brand of politics has been formally accepted as fair and correct by a parliamentary decree in the biggest democracy of the world.

The blast happened in Parwan Bostan Circle in Khairkhana area in Kabul’s police district 11 (PD11) at around 4 pm Kabul time, the ministry said.

This comes after a rise in attacks in the city of Kabul which have left dozens of people dead and maimed.

No group has grabbed credit for the attack.

Britain
Steyn: Berrying Boris
[JWR] This is the genius of the act: He's Bertie Wooster with Jeeves' brain. Out on the street, he's everybody's friend; among his actual alleged friends, he's utterly ruthless: Within twenty-four hours of entering 10 Downing Street, he'd pulled off the bloodiest cabinet reshuffle of "modern times", as the papers say - although actually I can't think of a bloodier one even from non-modern times. (Only four members of the May regime were retained: Michael Gove, Amber Rudd, Baroness Evans and Matt Hancock.)

Is he a nice person? Well, he's left an awful lot of human wreckage in his wake. Some of the women he's used and discarded seem to me, without naming names, to be sad and profoundly damaged from their brief intersection with his wandering zipper. His latest squeeze seems likely to be moving into Number Ten without benefit of clergy - a first for the Tories and a sign of how desperate they are after years of letting all the sober, serious, earnest types turn their party into a laughingstock.

What does he believe in? Other than himself, not terribly much. About a decade ago, I was in London for a couple of days and had lunch with him and Stuart Reid at a favorite Italian restaurant. Stuart was the deputy editor who did all the hard grind at the Speccie, while Boris was the great fizzing impresario fronting the operation - a business model he transferred successfully into his mayoral regime, and will no doubt be trying again in Downing Street.

Southeast Asia
Thai army destroys thousands of land mines in jungle
[ARABNEWS] Pulling back to a safe distance atop a hill, Thai troops blew up thousands of anti-personnel land mines on Tuesday with controlled explosions that sent black plumes of smoke high above jungle treetops. Thailand is one of more than 160 countries to have signed the Ottawa Treaty, which prohibits the use and stockpiling of the destructive weapon and aims to clear all mines by 2025.

As part of a dayslong operation to destroy the rest of Thailand’s stockpile, soldiers clad in protective vests placed stacks of unwent kaboom! ordnance in a pit and gingerly laid explosive charges on top. "From now on, Thailand will no longer retain any more anti-personnel land mines," said General Chaichana Nakkerd with the Thai armed forces joint chiefs of staff.

Standing on an observation hill as technicians detonated the charges, he said 3,133 land mines would be destroyed in Sa Kaeo province to "affirm our stance in not using" them. But the border between Thailand and Cambodia is still littered with land mines from decades of civil war in Cambodia, where the remnants of the defeated Khmer Rouge retreated in the 1980s.

Chaichana said Thailand, which signed the treaty in 1998, still has a long way to go to clear a 360-kilometer area along the border by its deadline of 2023. "The problem we still have is... the border with neighboring countries are in rural areas and on hills," he said, making them challenging to remove.

Local residents who had been maimed by leftover mines were given gifts by the army after watching the operation. The Ottawa treaty has helped eliminate 51 million land mines over the past two decades since it was enacted in 1997. But the United States, China, Egypt, India, Israel, Pakistain and Russia have not signed it.

A recent Landmine Monitor report shows that the number of people killed or injured from land mines nearly doubled in 2015 to 6,461 from 3,695 the year before ‐ making it the highest recorded total in a decade.

Philippine troops raid key NPA nest in Bukidnon
[Inquirer] Philippine troops have overrun a lair of the New People’s Army in Impasug-ong, Bukidnon used as the rebels’ convergence point. According to a military report the insurgent camp is located in an uninhabited area in Barangay Bolonay. The camp is about 1.2 hectares and can accommodate 150 makeshift bunkers.

When stormed by troops on August 1, more than a hundred members of the Sentro De Grabidad Dario, Peddler, and Compaq, all guerrilla units belonging to the NPA’s North-Central Mindanao Regional Committee, had converged at the hideout, the report noted. A 20-minute clash broke out before the militants backed away as bloodstains were seen in their escape route.

Military spokesman Ken Cabbigat identified the NPA leaders present in the meeting as alias Gab, alias Kaloy, and alias Jary or Reds.

In Lanao del Sur, 21 NPA militants surrendered on August 2 to Philippine troops following a weeklong offensive against their positions in Lumba-Bayabao town. The insurgents have reportedly eluded the military in Bukidnon and tried to establish a foothold in Lumba-Bayabao.

Terror Networks
Daesh must never be allowed to regroup
[ARABNEWS] Five months after the last ISIS stronghold in Syria was overrun by US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), there are worrying signs that fighters belonging to the now defunct self-proclaimed caliphate are regrouping.

The US envoy to the international coalition fighting ISIS, James Jeffrey, told news hounds in Washington last week that thousands of the Death Eater organization’s members scattered around Syria and Iraq remained a global threat.

US State Department counterterrorism coordinator, Nathan Sales, also told news hounds that "ISIS branches and networks now span the African continent from east to west and north to south," and he claimed that around 1,200 ISIS fighters were now in Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
with more trying to cross borders.

He warned that while ISIS had taken on much of the world’s focus, al-Qaeda had rebuilt itself and was as strong as ever.

Coinciding with these statements, a UN report by specialists released last week warned that a recent pause in international terrorist violence may soon end, with a new wave of attacks possible before the end of the year. It pointed to the fact that many of the estimated 30,000 imported muscle who travelled to the "caliphate" to fight may still be alive.

The report, which is based on information supplied by intelligence agencies of UN member states, concluded that "some may join al-Qaeda or other terrorist brands that may emerge," adding that the threat from ISIS and al-Qaeda, or similar groups is unlikely to decline further. The report warned that the threat to Europe remained high.

Last week bandidos holy warriors belonging to ISIS launched an attack in Iraq’s Salahuddin province for the first time since the group was defeated in 2017. Earlier this month ISIS also grabbed credit for a bloody suicide kaboom on a cop shoppe in Aden, Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
which killed 13 coppers. ISIS is active in Afghanistan, according to various reports.

This is not the time for complacency. The 80-member anti-ISIS international coalition must mobilize to make sure that ISIS or any other Death Eater group does not reform or dig roots in the region and beyond.

One area where international cooperation is urgently required is in Syria ‐ a country still embroiled in civil war and where a number of state and non-state actors are vying for control. There are literally thousands of imported muscle and their families in make-shift prisons awaiting repatriation. With minimum oversight of these incarceration centers the possibility of some fighters finding their way back into the open desert is high.

ISIS emerged out of the chaos and vacuum that plagued Syria and Iraq following 2011. It took massive international and regional military and intelligence resources to defeat the group.

Iraq
Nineveh returnees eclipsed by those flocking back to IDP camps
[Rudaw] Although 421 internally displaced persons (IDP) have returned to their villages in Nineveh in recent days, their number pales in significance against those flooding back to displacement camps.

Iraq’s Ministry of Displacement and Migration on Monday hailed the successful return of IDPs to villages in Nineveh. The move indicates an overall improvement in the security situation since the region was retaken from Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) bandidos Lions of Islam in 2017.

It follows the return of 423 Nineveh IDPs in mid-July.

However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
many IDPs who earlier returned to Nineveh found security conditions unstable, public services lacking, and a shortage of job opportunities to support their families. With little state support on hand, many chose to return to the camps.

The Iraqi government is providing a mere 1.5 million Iraqi dinars ($1,258) per household to restore their homes.

Of the 421 returnees announced on Monday, 235 were residents of Saladin’s al-Ilim Wa al-Karama camp, 64 of the Kurdistan Region’s Khazir camp, and 122 of three camps in southern djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, said Ali Abbas Jahagir, director general of the ministry’s branch affairs department, in a statement.

"The ministry, in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Transport and the Joint Operations [Command], allocated busses and vehicles for the returnee families to be transported and to have their possessions moved freely," Jahagir said.

The IDPs have been resettled in villages to the east and west of Mosul, the district of Baaj, Shirqat, and other areas of the province.

Despite these efforts, many returnees do not appear to stay long, opting to return to the relative safety and security of the camps.

According to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of the Interior, more than 7,000 Iraqi IDPs have come back to its camps during the first six months of 2019 alone after failing to reestablish their homes and livelihoods in Nineveh.

IDPs who spoke to Rudaw gave several reasons for their return to the camps, including a shortage of jobs, slow progress on reconstruction, and poor security.

In contrast to the hard existence awaiting them in Nineveh, IDPs receive food, medical, and educational support from local and international aid agencies in the Kurdistan Region’s camps. It is also possible to secure work in nearby towns and cities.

Reconstruction work in Nineveh has been slow, in part because of rampant corruption.

Iraq’s Integrity Commission, an independent body overseen by the Iraqi parliament, announced on July 30 it had recovered 11 billion Iraqi dinars which had been allocated for Nineveh’s IDPs. The funds had been embezzled by local officials.
There it is. They didn’t say before where it was found.
The area has also been starved of international aid and federal funding.

In February 2018, donor countries participating in a conference in Kuwait pledged $30 billion for Iraq’s reconstruction ‐ short of the estimated $88 billion required. Little of this money has been delivered.

Provincial officials were also disappointed with their share of the 2019 federal budget.

Although more than 4.2 million people across Iraq have been returned to their areas of origin since ISIS was territorially defeated in late-2017, 1.6 million Iraqis are still displaced, according to IOM Iraq’s Displacement Tracking Matrix.

China-Japan-Koreas
N. Korea Threatens More Launches after Fourth Test in 12 Days
[AnNahar] North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
threatened Tuesday to carry out more weapons tests after it fired its fourth pair of projectiles in less than two weeks following the start of joint exercises between the US and the South.

The rising temperature on the peninsula threatens to derail putative negotiations between Pyongyang and Washington, with the North saying the combined drills were a "flagrant violation" of the process.

Pyongyang has always been infuriated by military exercises between the South and US, seeing them as rehearsals for invasion, but in the past it has tended to avoid carrying out missile tests while the war games were taking place.

The speed of its statement Tuesday was also unusual, coming within an hour of the launch, rather than the more normal day later.

The North fired "two projectiles that are assumed to be short-range ballistic missiles" from South Hwanghae province on its west coast, Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

They flew around 450 kilometres across the peninsula and into the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, reaching an altitude of 37 kilometres and a speed of "at least Mach 6.9", the South's military said.

That puts them around the middle of the range of projectiles that have been fired by the North four times in the past 12 days.

Seoul has said all were likely to be short-range ballistic missiles -- the North is banned from ballistic missile launches under UN Security Council resolutions -- while Pyongyang has described some as a "large-calibre multiple-launch guided rocket system" or "tactical guided weapon".

The latest launch came after the South Korean and US militaries began mainly computer-simulated joint exercises on Monday to test Seoul's ability to take operational control in wartime.

Less than an hour after the North's weapons test, an official of its foreign ministry said the drills were "an undisguised denial and a flagrant violation" of the diplomatic process between Pyongyang, Washington and Seoul.

All joint drills between the South and the US were "aggressive war exercises simulating the surprise and preemptive attack on the DPRK", the spokesperson said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency.

"So we are compelled to develop, test and deploy the powerful physical means essential for national defence," the official added. "The US and south Korean authorities cannot counter this even though they have 10 mouths."

Sahel: Red Cross suspends operations in Timbuktu, Mali, as violence escalates
[NORTH-AFRICA] Twin attacks in Mali have killed four people, including two Malian soldiers, security sources said Tuesday, as the International Committee of the Red Thingy suspended activities in Timbuktu due to "growing insecurity". A gendarme was killed in an ambush the Segou region, east of the capital Bamako on Tuesday, while at the scene of a robbery, a security source said. A day earlier, two army trucks were targeted by an bomb in the Koro area near the Burkina Faso

They were made public as the ICRC temporarily suspended its work in the northern city of Timbuktu following a carjacking at gunpoint close to the Geneva-based organization’s office. "We ask for measures to improve security in town and in the region," said the head of ICRC’s Mali delegation Jean-Nicolas Marti in a tweet. In a statement, the ICRC said gunnies stole one of its vehicles on Monday in the middle of the city and that several other thefts had happened in the region this year. "This latest incident is symptomatic of the level of insecurity prevailing in the city and region, which has reached an unacceptable threshold for the population," the ICRC said.

Algeria: court issues arrest warrant on Khaled Nezzar, ex-General accused of alleged mass killings in the 1990s
[NORTH-AFRICA] An Algerian court has issued an arrest warrant against a former defence minister and army chief, along with his son, for alleged "conspiracy", state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
reported Tuesday. The warrant against Khaled Nezzar follows a series of legal moves against high-profile figures in the regime of ousted president Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
. The court in Blida, southwest of Algiers, said Nezzar was suspected of "conspiracy and breach of public order", according to a news ticker on national TV.

The retired general has for weeks been on the run in Spain, where he has been joined by his son, according to Algerian media reports. Nezzar recently claimed that as protests mounted against Bouteflika in April, the president’s powerful brother had sought his advice on how to crush the protest movement. The former minister told the Algeria Patriotique news website ‐ run by his son Lotfi Nezzar ‐ that Said Bouteflika had mulled declaring a state of emergency and firing army chief Ahmed Gaid Salah. He repeated those accusations in May when he appeared as a witness against Said Bouteflika, who was arrested along with two former intelligence chiefs on charges including "conspiring" against the state and "undermining the authority of the army".

Gaid Salah, a longtime ally of president Bouteflika, has become Algeria’s de facto strongman since the 82-year-old president left office on April 2 following weeks of protests against his bid to seek a fifth term. Protesters have welcome the arrests of high-profile figures from Bouteflika’s regime. But many fear they are little more than a high-level purge and a power struggle between regime clans, rather than a genuine effort to reform the state.

Nezzar was at the head of the army in 1992 when it cancelled the electoral process, denying Islamist groups a victory at the polls and pitching the country into a devastating, decade-long civil war. A Swiss court in mid-2018 cleared the way for Nezzar to face war crimes charges after he was arrested in Switzerland

McConnell’s Team Responds After Ocasio-Cortez Asks ‘Are You Paying For Young Men To Practice Groping’
[DAILYCALLER] Mitch McConnell’s campaign responded to accusations he is paying "for young men to practice groping" after a photo of teens in "Team Mitch" shirts posing lewdly with a cardboard figure of Alexandria Boom Boom Ocasio-Cortez
Dem represntative from da Bronx in Noo Yawk and leader of the Mean Girl Caucus in Congress. One of the Great Minds of the 21st Century, she is known as much for her innaleck as for her dance moves. She is all in favor of socialism, even though she's fuzzy on the details...
surfaced.

"These young men are not campaign staff, they’re high schoolers and it’s incredible that the national media has sought to once again paint a target on their backs rather than report real, and significant news in our country," the Kentucky Republican senator’s campaign manager Kevin Golden said, according to The Washington Post.

"Team Mitch in no way condones any aggressive, suggestive, or demeaning act toward life sized cardboard cut outs of any gender in a manner similar to what we saw from President Obama’s speechwriting staff several years ago," Golden continued, referencing a photo of speechwriter Jon Favreau groping a cutout of former Secretary of State Crooked Hillary Clinton
...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
that sparked significant backlash in 2008.

‘Flagrantly illegal.’ Trump sues California over new law targeting his tax returns
[SACBEE] President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
, the Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Republican Party, and the national GOP joined together Tuesday to sue California over a new tax-return law Gov. Gavin Newsom signed last week.

The law requires Trump and other presidential candidates to release the last five years of their tax returns to get their names on the state’s 2020 primary ballot.

Trump has yet to weigh in on the issue himself. His personal attorney Jay Sekulow criticized "California’s attempt to circumvent the constitution."

"Today we have taken decisive action in federal court challenging California’s attempt to circumvent the U.S. Constitution," Sekulow said in a statement. "The issue of whether the president should release his federal tax returns was litigated in the 2016 election and the American people spoke. The effort to deny California voters the opportunity to cast a ballot for President Trump in 2020 will clearly fail. Legal scholars from across the political spectrum have roundly condemned this flagrantly illegal statute. We are confident the courts will as well."

Trump’s campaign filed its 15-page complaint in the U.S. Eastern District of California. Republican state politicians, the California Republican Party, and the Republican National Committee filed a similar 26-page lawsuit on Tuesday seeking an injunction.

The latest legal challenges announced Tuesday come days after the conservative group Judicial Watch filed for an injunction to stop the law in its tracks. Rocky de La Fuente, a California native and 2020 Republican presidential candidate, filed a similar complaint beforehand.
Rocky is a San Diego area crank
Trump argues in his lawsuit that the U.S. Constitution establishes a firm set of eligibility requirements related to age and citizenship. According to the lawsuit, "These are the exclusive qualifications for federal office."
The Constitution's also got that prohibition against bills of attainder.
The complaint from the Trump campaign filed Tuesday also calls the new law "a partisan effort" that is part of "the Democrats’ ongoing crusade to obtain the president’s federal tax returns in the hopes of finding something they can use to harm him politically."

California will argue it has administrative jurisdiction over its state ballots.

In a signing statement, Newsom said the Constitution "grants states the authority to determine how their electors are chosen, and California is well within its constitutional right to include this requirement."

Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who will defend California in court, said on Monday that the state had not yet been served with a complaint. While he declined to comment on the specifics of pending cases, he said he’d be ready for the lawsuit

"We’ll be ready to do what we need to do to defend California’s law and statutes," Becerra said.

Joe Biden compares Donald Trump to the Ku Klux Klan
  • [Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Joe Biden blasts Donald Trump with Ku Klux Klan comparisons following mass-shooting blamed on man taking vengeance over 'invasion' from Mexico

  • Democrats pummeled the president on Monday, saying his harsh rhetoric against illegal immigration is responsible

  • The second of the weekend's two mass-shooters was a political liberal who admiredElizabeth Warren, but the first was deadlier and covered more in media

  • Biden is the Democratic presidential front-runner; he says the president is using a racial 'dog whistle' to embolden white supremacists
Y'see, the thing with dog whistles is that since nobody can hear them but Weimeraners and such, you can't deny having used one.

Eventually they'll come to the conclusion Trump's a witch, since there's no way he could have outsmarted and outperformed a bunch of geniuses like them without help from Old Scratch. Impeachment will have to make way for burning at the stake.

It is highly offensive and it needs to stop. You have a problem with me? Tell me exactly what it is without using offensive language. Let's have a discussion that doesn't rely on insults. #13  12 years ago in 2007 we had a horrible crime occur locally. A young white couple were brutalized and murdered by 4-5 black thugs, some with prison records. The girl was raped, sodomized and stuffed in a trash can where she died. The boy was sodomized, shot three times and his body set on fire near the Norfolk-Southern railroad tracks. All of the thugs were eventually tried and convicted. One received the death sentence. The others lesser sentences. Now, one of thugs who received a light sentence is being re-tried under new charges for murder as the result of new evidence.

"Twelve years after the murder of a young Knox County couple, Eric D. Boyd, 47, faces charges including kidnapping, rape and murder. He's accused of having a direct role in the attacks on Chris Newsom, 23, and Channon Christian, 21, in January 2007."

At the time of when the early initial trials began, there were protests in front of the court house. On one side of the street was the KKK, while on the other side were those opposing capital punishment. The police were in between maintaining order. The KKK didn't amount to a very large crowd and were from outside the community. The anti-capital punishment crowd, likewise not that large, were mostly students, faculty from UT and local Quakers from the community.

I agree with an earlier comment from Mike K, there is not much clan activity around here that I'm aware of. During the past 40 years, I've not heard much of the KKK around here. I think the clan is mostly political fodder from the left-wing hate grist mill.

At the time of this horrific crime, I think that most of the community wouldn't have minded if this crew had strung up. The only other time that I'm aware that feelings were running that high was when a bunch of young Satanists who were into witchcraft killed a young Swedish couple and their child near a rest stop north of here off I81. Their little boy survived after being shot in the face. Most people are good but occasionally some very bad people are running around out there. Both of these stories would certainly justify people carrying a concealed firearm. It might not have prevented either of these crimes but at least it might have given the victims a chance.

Europe
Swedish municipality may go bankrupt after taking too many "welfare-dependent migrants"
[VOE] Officials in the Swedish municipality of Bengtsfors have been forced to ask the national government for aid due to the enormous financial burden that has been incurred on taxpayers as a result of taking in too many welfare-dependent migrants.

Stig Bertilsson, a local politician for the Moderate Party, mentioned that the letter didn’t shy away from identifying the source of the budget problems as being related to the vast numbers of "new Swedes" who’ve been taken in, and who rely on social-welfare benefits SVT reports.

Bertilsson told SVT reporters, "Costs in municipalities that have received new arrivals have continued to be substantial even when government revenues have stopped. This creates a large negative hole in the municipal cash register."

After being questioned about tax revenues coming from newly arrived migrants that could narrow the deficit gap, Bertilsson replied that he had hoped that in the long term there would be more tax revenues coming from migrants, but thus far there hasn’t.

He added that the labor market in Sweden "has a long way to go."

Last year’s figures released by the Swedish Public Employment Service revealed that unemployment rates among migrants are much higher than those for native Swedes. The report showed a 19.9 percent unemployment rate for migrants compared to a measly 3.6 percent for native Swedes.

Iraq
Syrian refugees in camps forced to find jobs
[Rudaw] Life has become even harder for Syrian refugees living in Domiz refugee camp in Duhok since a cut in funding from international aid agencies, such as the World Food Programme.

Now refugees are increasingly being forced to find jobs, with some borrowing money to set up their own businesses.
Oh, noze! Not JOBS!
Amina Temo, 35, is a Syrian refugee who has been living in the camp since 2013. She used to work as a tailor in Syria, before she was forced to flee her country. Now, she has started her own small business inside the camp’s confines.

"After funds were cut and many organizations pulled out, aid decreased greatly, and people have to work in any job that’s available," she says.

"There are women working as cleaners and others who are sewing. I mean they work in any job available. They have to. If they don't work, they will not be able to feed their children."

Other refugees received small loans provided by the German Corporation for International Cooperation, GIZ. The organization provides materials and a small amount of money to the refugees to start projects that GIZ approves.

Najida Abdulkarim, 19 and also from Syria, has been living in the camp with her little brothers after her mother travelled to Germany for medical treatment.

Najida, along with other colleagues in the camp, started a greenhouse project.

They plant cucumbers.

"Our project is about cucumbers as you can see and we make a living from it. I work here with my colleagues and we make a living from our greenhouses. Everything is fine, thanks to God, and I support my family," she says.

But Najida says profits are small.

"Regarding marketing, it is very weak, almost nothing. I mean the prices are very little. We sell very big bags but are still barely making it. The prices here are worth nothing."

More than 7,680 Syrian refugee families ‐ that’s over 35,000 individuals ‐ are living in 6,242 tents distributed throughout southern Dohuk.

Monster lets pals gang-rape wife after losing poker bet
[NYPOST] A monstrous Indian man bet his wife in a twisted game of poker ‐ then twice let her be gang-raped after he lost, according to a report.

The unidentified gambling addict bet his wife after running out of money during a drunken card game with a relative named Anil and a friend called Arun at his house in Jaunpur, according to New Delhi Television Limited (NDTV).

He then let both men rape her after losing the game, the station reported.

The wife fled to her uncle’s house, followed by her husband, who begged for her forgiveness, the station said.

She let him drive her back home ‐ only for him to stop the car and allow the two men to gang-rape her again, according to NDTV.
"Sorry honey, I doubled down"
Shockingly, police initially refused to file a case, but she finally made an official crime report after taking her complaint to court, the station says. There was no information on what is happening with the case.

Khalifa Hartar pursues attacks on #Misrata as death toll in #Tripoli reaches 1,100

Forces loyal to Libyan strongman Khalifa Haftar said they launched air strikes early Tuesday against an airbase in third city Misrata held by government loyalists. “Our air force carried out several raids against the Misrata airbase, targeting anti-air defences as well as a Turkish aircraft transporting ammunition, drones and missiles,” Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army said in a statement on its Facebook page.

Pro-Haftar television channel Libya Al-Hadath said a Turkish Ilyushin aircraft “was destroyed as it landed at the Misrata base”.
