BP Selling US Onshore Wind Business…to Refocus on Oil
[LI] There are signs that the era of eco-activists diverting American tax dollars to green energy schemes is ending.

Last month, the Biden administration appeared to be offering a "going out of business soon" giveaway of $4.3 billion to various "climate" projects.

Now, energy giant BP has announced plans to sell its U.S. onshore wind energy business, saying its assets do not align with its growth plans.

BP said it will launch the sale process shortly for the wind assets, bp Wind Energy, which has interests in 10 operating onshore wind energy assets across seven U.S. states.

"We believe the business is likely to be of greater value for another owner," William Lin, BP’s executive vice president for gas and low carbon energy said in a statement.

Several offshore wind companies have cancelled or sought to renegotiate power contracts for planned U.S. projects in the past year, citing soaring materials costs, high interest rates, and supply chain disruptions.

bp Wind Energy’s assets, which have net total generating capacity of 1.3 gigawatts, are not aligned with BP’s plans for growth in Lightsource bp, the London-listed company said.

Harrowing moment teen girl 'shoots mom dead then calmly texts stepdad'
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] "The court heard she had used marijuana up until at least the day prior to the alleged incident. She had also been prescribed Lexapro and Zoloft - both medications for mood disorders."
A teenage girl accused of shooting her mom dead and attempting to kill her stepdad was filmed playing on her mobile phone and texting a friend just moments after shots were fired.

Harrowing footage of Carly Gregg casually wandering around her kitchen has been played in court during her murder trial in Mississippi.

The now 15-year-old was just 14 when she allegedly shot her mom inside their home on March 19. She turned down a 40-year plea deal and her legal team is instead pursuing an insanity defense.

In the video, Gregg walked into the kitchen wearing a Nirvana t-shirt and paced up and down the corridor, disappearing off camera briefly before returning, holding something behind her back, and peering into the kitchen.

She walked off camera again in the opposite direction moments before three gunshots rang out.

Trump supporters suffer 'unbearable' mystery injuries after sitting behind ex-president at rally
See also here.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Supporters of Donald Trump say they've suffered from mysterious eye injuries after sitting behind him at his rally in Tucson last week.

At least half a dozen people said they were seated on stage behind Trump as the candidate addressed the spiraling cost of living crisis and unveiled a populist new policy, promising to end tax on overtime.

But after the event they became afflicted with a mysterious malady. Some complained of dealing with irritation in their eyes and needed medical attention.

Mayra Rodriguez, a former Clinton supporter turned Trump fan and pro-life advocate, said that her 'eyes were burning' once she left the rally and headed for the emergency room shortly after getting home from the speech.

'The emergency room staff, from the triage nurse to the PA asked are you sure you didn't get sprayed with something your symptoms look like you got sprayed with something,' Rodriguez said.

She said that whatever happened, for a couple of days afterward she had nearly gone blind.

'I can't see anything when I try to open my eyes. I see a bright light. It hurts, it hurts a lot to open my eyes. I have this cold cloth I put on and take off constantly. It's horrible,' she said.

Rodriguez said that by Tuesday, her vision had begun to return to her and it doesn't appear to be a permanent problem.

However, she became more troubled when she started to hear stories from other people who attended and sat near her.

'It kept getting worse and worse, my eyes were watering a lot, my nose started running then I started feeling my face get really flushed and my neck felt like it was on fire and it just progressed from there,' another attendee, who remained anonymous, told KVOA.

The woman's brother had the same issues: 'It was all focused on my eyes, my eyes were red like hell you know, it's unbearable. I couldn't handle it'.

At least one other Trump supporter, a local realtor, had to cancel all of her scheduled business for the weekend due to blindness.

A Trump campaign spokesperson said that the operation is looking into these cases.

Illegal migrant involved in Times Square police attack was ordered to be deported 1 year prior: report
[FoxNews] The migrant was ordered deported, left and re-entered the country prior to the attack

At least four of the illegal migrants who swarmed and beat up two NYPD officers in a shocking Times Square attack in January were apprehended by federal law enforcement as far back as July 2022 but were released without being deported, according to an interim congressional report into the incident.

The report also goes on to blast the Biden-Harris administration's record on immigration.

One of the migrants, a suspected Tren de Aragua gang member, had already been ordered to be deported — and then left the country and returned again — before the brutal attack took place.

Another one of the migrants was caught trying to enter Canada illegally after running from U.S. authorities, having crossed the southern border but was still released. A third migrant suspect was also arrested for shoplifting two separate stores and assaulting two store workers months before the Times Square attack and was not ordered to be deported.

The shocking revelations are detailed in a report released on Wednesday by the Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement, which is tasked with investigating the Jan. 27 caught-on-camera attack on a police lieutenant and officer. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio and Subcommittee Chairman Tom McClintock, R-Calif, subpoenaed the files on the migrants from Homeland as part of the report.

The incident sparked widespread condemnation and was followed by one of the suspects flipping two middle fingers at reporters' cameras after he was released from police custody. It also drew sharp attention to the migrant crime surge, particularly in New York City, which has catered to housing tens of thousands of migrants at taxpayers' expense. The attack took place in a busy tourist spot close to a migrant shelter.

The report also revealed an apparent inadequate vetting process of migrants, which has led to around 617,000 criminal migrants roaming U.S. streets, and criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for agreeing to plea deals with the Times Square attackers while at the same time prosecting former President Donald Trump over hush money payments.

The committee, citing data from several agencies, says that more than 5.6 million illegal migrants have entered the country under the Biden-Harris administration, with another 1.9 million illegal alien "gotaways" escaping into the country during the same time.

Wilson Juarez-Aguilarte, Kelvin Servita Arocha, Darwin Gomez Izquiel and Yorman Yoel Riveron-Rivero all entered the country illegally during the Biden-Harris administration, per the report, and have been charged with assault on a police officer and obstructing a governmental investigation.

Two have since agreed to lenient plea deals with Bragg’s office and none have been deported, according to the New York Post.

Juarez-Aguilarte, a Venezuelan national and suspected Tren de Aragua gang member, was ordered to be deported from the U.S. in February 2023, nearly a year before the Times Square attack. The report found that he crossed the southern border into Brownsville, Texas, in July 2022, refused to tell border agents why he left Venezuela and told border agents he was heading to Houston.

At some point, he left the U.S. and then re-entered the country in June 2023, near Champlain, New York, with a group of 14 other migrants — yet border agents released him again.

A Manhattan judge set his bail at $1 following the Times Square because the charges against him involved evidence tampering and not participating in the attack.

Servita-Arocha, an alleged Tren de Aragua gang member from Venezuela with tattoos that are "highly associated" with the gang, was apprehended about 10 miles from the northern border in January 2023 while walking with a group of eight other Venezuelan migrants in upstate New York. The group told border agents they "wanted to go to Canada" and had "illegally entered the United States from Mexico through Texas" a week earlier.

Border agents released him with a list of pro bono legal service providers.

A year later, he was one of four suspects arrested and released without bail over the attack. Bragg offered him a plea deal to serve six months in prison for pleading guilty to obstructing a government administration.

Gomez Izquiel, also a Venezuelan national, entered the U.S. illegally near Brownsville, Texas, in August 2023 by way of a raft across the Rio Grande River from Mexico, according to the report. He was picked up by Border Patrol and claimed that he entered the U.S. to seek asylum to find work to help his family financially and to obtain an education. He was processed and released after the National Crime Information Center query returned no criminal history for him.

Days later, and still not detained by ICE, he was said to be part of a group that robbed a Macy’s store in Queens Center Mall and assaulted an employee. Gomez Izquiel was accused of acting as a lookout for a group of three others who stole merchandise from the store. In late July 2024, Gomez Izquiel accepted a plea deal for the Times Square assault.

Meanwhile, the report also details how Riveron-Rivero crossed illegally into Brownsville, Texas, in May 2023 and was apprehended by border agents, who released him with instructions to report to ICE within 60 days, which he did in New York City in September 2023.

Officers issued a warrant for his arrest shortly before again releasing him on his own recognizance as long as he did not "violate any local, state, or federal laws or ordinances" or associate with known gang members or be associated with any such activity.

It is not clear why ICE officers issued the arrest warrant.

Two months later, Riveron-Rivero was accused of stealing pants at a New York City Nordstrom store and then punching and biting a worker in the face. He then tried to swipe a coat from Macy’s and also punched a store worker there. The report states he was released without bail after both arrests.

Riveron-Rivero is accused of grabbing, pulling and dragging the two cops to the ground in the Times Square attack. He’s been offered a deal for two years in prison in exchange for pleading guilty to second degree assault.

"New York City police officers were attacked because the Biden-Harris Administration allowed these illegal aliens to enter the country," the report states.

The report revealed that the country’s vetting process of migrants is almost non-existent since DHS has no way to determine if an alien has a criminal history in his or her own country unless that country reports the information to the U.S. government or the migrant self-reports.

Prosecutors: Chicago Man Robs Woman on CTA Days After Getting Probation for Prior CTA Robbery
[Breitbart] A Chicago man allegedly robbed a woman on the train just 11 days after a judge released him on probation for robbing two people outside of a train station on the same line, prosecutors said.

Isaiah Turner, 18, and two minors were arrested on March 17 — St. Patrick’s Day — after they allegedly robbed a man and a woman at the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Austin Blue Line station in Oak Park, CWBChicago reported.

While demanding the victims’ property, the teens allegedly implied they had a gun, prosecutors said.

Turner was also facing charges for a February 5 robbery he allegedly took part in when he was 17.

Judge Antara Rivera agreed with prosecutors who argued for a detention petition, but Judge John Wellington Wilson allowed Turner to resolve the March robbery case on August 27 by pleading guilty to aggravated robbery.

Court documents obtained by the Chicago crime outlet show that Wilson sentenced the teen to two years of probation following his pattern of allegations.

On September 7, just 11 days after getting off with probation, Turner allegedly again implied he had a gun while robbing a 24-year-old woman on a Blue Line train near the Western station, CWBChicago reported.

The alleged victim, named Lisa, was struck in the face and robbed of her purse, phone, and Apple AirPods, Judge Rivera said in a detention order.

Cops saw a man matching Turner’s description wearing all black and a ski mask and chased him through the neighborhood, a police report stated.

“He ran when the cops tried to stop him,” the outlet said, “but the police caught up with him.”

Police said they found him with headphones with the name “Lisa’s Airpods Pro.”

CWBChicago noted that Rivera’s latest detention order says Turner is also on juvenile probation for an aggravated battery, but it is unclear if that stems from the February robbery.

It is not immediately clear what his new charges related to the latest incident are.

Biden-Harris DEA Leaves Major Texas Border Drug Corridor Exposed
[Breitbart] According to a source within the Department of Homeland Security, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has all but abandoned its offices in Eagle Pass and Del Rio, Texas. Only one special agent is working in one border office, and a local police task force officer is working in the other. The situation, according to the source, leaves just one DEA agent working a few days per week along the Texas border between El Paso and Laredo.

The 604-mile stretch of United States/Mexico border between El Paso and Laredo is designated as a High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) under a program created by Congress with the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. Traditionally, according to the source, the DEA has spearheaded law enforcement task forces in both cities, responding to drug seizures made by the Border Patrol and other local and state authorities.

According to the source, who was not authorized to speak to the media, the DEA offices, now mostly empty, are no longer able to provide investigative and criminal prosecution services due to attrition and personnel reassignments by the federal narcotics agency.

Now, according to the source, all that remains in one of the two border towns is a local law enforcement officer designated to keep the lights on at the all-but-abandoned DEA office in Del Rio. Only one special agent remains in Eagle Pass, working less than a full work week at times. As of 2024, the agency employs more than 10,000 people, nearly half of whom are special agents. Breitbart Texas visited the Eagle Pass DEA office during normal business hours and found the facility nearly empty.

As the offices sit idle, fentanyl seizures across the United States and along the southwest border continue to rise. According to the DEA, the agency seized more than 80 million fentanyl-laced fake pills and nearly 12,000 pounds of fentanyl powder. These seizures are equivalent to more than 390 million lethal doses of fentanyl, according to DEA. The current 2024 fentanyl seizures represent 254 million deadly doses.

The Eagle Pass/Del Rio portions of the South Texas HIDTA serve as a major transportation hub to San Antonio and beyond. According to CBP, border fentanyl seizures have increased more than 860 percent between 2019 and 2023. Synthetic drugs like fentanyl kill more than 150 Americans every day according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The source says it makes little sense to practically abandon the border region where much of the fentanyl originates.

“Rank and file law enforcement officers will still be out trying to get this off our streets, but it sends a message that the federal agency primarily tasked with a national drug enforcement strategy doesn’t care enough to stick around the border,” the source emphasized.

In the case of narcotic seizures made by the Border Patrol, the source says an existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) gives the DEA the first right of refusal to accept a case for investigation and prosecution. Local police and sheriff offices also rely on DEA to assist with investigating and prosecuting larger narcotics seizures. The interdicting agencies along the border rely on DEA special agents to perform link analysis and trace the narcotics back to the corresponding cartel responsible for sending the drug shipments across the border.

Without the special agents present to interview and develop the narcotics cases firsthand, the source says the local agencies will rely on themselves to carry out this task under the auspices of DEA’s authority as task force members.

“It’s like the small town where the mayor is the fire chief, postmaster, and sheriff; we’ll wear the DEA hat as task force members, but there won’t be a DEA special agent anywhere near the action in these two border towns unless things change,” the source told Breitbart Texas.

According to a recent ABC News report, other locations outside the United States have seen their staffing levels decreased. The agency shuttered two offices in China as it continues to struggle to prevent the precursor fentanyl chemicals from reaching the hands of Mexican drug cartel operatives. According to the report, DEA Administrator Anne Milgram, appointed by President Biden in 2021, communicated the closure of a dozen offices worldwide saying, “These closings reflect the need to harness DEA’s limited and strained resources to target where we can make the biggest impact in saving American lives.”

It is not known whether the severe staffing shortages facing the border offices in Texas are related to planned downsizing or simply unchecked attrition. A request for information from the DEA and its parent agency, the Department of Justice. The DEA responded, saying, “For security purposes, DEA does not comment on staffing in its offices.”

Police Can Search Legal Gun Owners' Homes to 'Check'
[Breitbart] During a May 2007 presser in support of gun storage requirements, then-San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris stressed that being a legal gun owner does not bar police from searching your home.

FOX News quoted Harris speaking at the presser. “…just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home,” she said, “doesn’t mean that we’re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you’re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.”

#2  Speaking of illegal searches and right to due process, but not too off topic.

Does Article 3 prevent the forced housing of illegal immigrants in private residencies?

Can one argue that soldier is one under the employment of a government? The illegal immigrant is given special legal rights unavailable to the US Citizen and is receiving pay and benefits in a determined time period. I say yes, you have a government employee to billet in a private residence in violation of Article 3.

What is a monitoring device? In short, it is the extension of one's senses. A camera, for example, allows a person to see remote locations. A thermostat monitor allows a person to feel an atmosphere.

So if crazy eyes is like, step 1 we aren't going for your guns but you must let our agent enter your home, inspect your storage area, and install a device which monitors when the storage area is accessed and can lock remotely surprise!, is that posting a government employee in a private residence?

Democrat Senator Panics over Report That Anti-Stock Trading Bill Will Not Apply to Her Partner
[Breitbart] Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released a campaign ad in response to a report that revealed her bill banning senators and their spouses from buying stocks would not apply to her spouse.

In a campaign advertisement, Baldwin accused Republican businessman and real estate mogul Eric Hovde, who is running to unseat Baldwin, of owning a $3 billion California bank that allegedly “takes millions from unknown foreign interests.”

Baldwin’s campaign video comes as Hovde called for the Wisconsin senator to reveal her partner, Maria Brisbane’s assets. Brisbane works as a wealth adviser with Morgan Stanley. Baldwin was also criticized in a video from the Fix Washington PAC for failing to “report” her “jointly owned assets” with Brisbane or Brisbane’s clients “who get rich off industries” that Baldwin reportedly regulates.

Under the Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act, which is sponsored by Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and co-sponsored by Baldwin, Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), among others, “each Member of Congress” would be required to “divest or place in a blind trust any specified investment owned by the Member,” or their spouse and a dependent of them.

A report from Daniel Lippman, a reporter with Politico, found that if passed, the bill “would not apply to relationships like Baldwin and Brisbane”:

A new bill to ban senators and their spouses from buying individual stocks that Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) touts in a new ad wouldn’t apply to Baldwin’s partner because the couple is not married, Daniel Lippman reports.
There’s a cost to not putting a ring on that, too.
Her opponent Eric Hovde has called on Baldwin to disclose her partner’s assets. And after a super PAC ad attacked her for not reporting jointly held assets with partner Maria Brisbane, a wealth adviser at Morgan Stanley, Baldwin responded with her own ad saying that she was “leading the fight to ban senators from purchasing any individual stocks.”
The lady’s lady is a wealth advisor, a fancy term for a stock tout. She’d not have been pleased had she been limited to recommending plain vanilla index funds to her terribly sophisticated clients.
But if the Ban Congressional Stock Trading Act passed, the law would not apply to relationships like Baldwin and Brisbane, even though in 2021 the couple bought a $1.3 million home together in Washington, splitting the cost of the property. As written, the law would prohibit senators, their spouses and their dependant children from trading stocks but not apply to less official relationships. The Baldwin campign noted that the bill uses the same standard for spousal and child reporting that has been in place since the passage of the Ethics in Government Act in the 1970s.

While Andrew Mamo, a campaign spokesperson for the Baldwin campaign explained to the outlet that Baldwin “follows all ethics guidelines when it comes to her financial disclosure reports,” Brisbane has not appeared on Baldwin’s Financial Disclosure Reports, though the couple has been together since 2018 and purchased a $1.3 million condo in Washington, DC.

Brisbane was reportedly given power of attorney in order to purchase the condo, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Baldwin apparently previously reported the assets with her former partner, Lauren Azar, according to the New York Post.
That one was an attorney specializing in the energy industry, at one point a senior advisor to the US Secretary of Energy, and no doubt very aware of the political side of such things.
Brisbane founded the Brisbane Group, which is described as being a “wealth management team within Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management,” according to the Brisbane Group’s website. Brisbane also works as an Adjunct Professor of Finance with the Columbia Business School.
To be fair, lots of people are adjunct professors in their spare time. It’s a nice way to share your knowledge with the next generation — or possibly the one after that.

Islamist armed groups terrorize civilians in Burkina Faso-Human Rights Watch
[AFRICANEWS] The Human Rights Watch group has warned about the ever-increasing cases of attacks on civilians by the Islamist gangs in Burkina Faso
...The country in west Africa that they put where Upper Volta used to be. Its capital is Oogadooga, or something like that. Its president used to be Blaise Compaoré, who took office in 1987 and was chased out in 2014. Now it's the usual army officer type guy, Captain Ibrahim Traore, running things, who's just doing a bang-up job unless he's already been deposed...
.

The rights group further said that the gangs have massacred villagers, displaced people, and Christian worshipers.

They claim the group has killed at least 128 civilians across Burkina Faso since February 2024 in attacks that violate international humanitarian law and constitute war crimes.

The two main Islamic groups linked to al-Qaeda, the Support of Islam and Moslems and the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
control large swathes of land and have been fighting with the Burkina forces since they entered the country in 2016.

''We are witnessing an incredibly concerning surge in Islamist violence in Burkina Faso. The Islamist gangs' massacres of villagers, worshipers, and displaced people are not only war crimes, but a cruel affront to human decency,'' said Ilaria Allegrozzi, senior Sahel researcher at Human Rights Watch. ''The leaders of the Islamist gangs should immediately end these deadly attacks on civilians.''

From May to July, Human Rights Watch interviewed 37 people, including 31 witnesses to attacks on civilians. Human Rights Watch wrote to the Burkina Faso justice minister on June 26 and the country's ambassador to the United States on July 30, sharing research findings and requesting responses to specific questions. The justice minister responded to Human Rights Watch on August 28.

The latest attack saw at least 100 villagers and soldiers killed in central Burkina Faso during a weekend attack on a village by al-Qaeda-linked jihadis in late August.

About half of Burkina Faso is outside of government control as the country has been ravaged by increasing jihadi attacks, encircling the capital. The jihadis linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State group have killed thousands and displaced more than 2 million people.

The violence contributed to two coups in 2022. Still, the military junta that promised to end the attacks has struggled to do so, even after seeking new security partnerships with Russia and other junta-led, conflict-hit countries in Africa's Sahel region
... North Africa's answer to the Pak tribal areas...

Man Who Tried to Assassinate Trump Was Flagged by a Second Federal Agency, Then Ignored
[Red State] When Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump on September 15, landed in Honolulu in June 2023 on his way home from Ukraine and went through customs, the spontaneous comments he made caused US Customs and Border Patrol agents to interview him on the spot and flag him for further investigation by the Department of Homeland Security, according to an exclusive report at Just The News.

Now to the bottom line:

Given what this guy was doing in Ukraine and his interactions with CBP agents and with a CIA agent (as Susie reported Monday), and the fact that a nurse working in Ukraine brought Routh to the attention of CBP as a dangerous person, there's no way the various intelligence agencies in our country didn't have him on their radar or under constant surveillance. If Tucker Carlson interacting with people in Russia for an interview was enough to have his Signal account hacked and communications tapped, with the level of interaction Routh was having with foreign agents around the world he had to have had a FISA warrant active on his communications, right? Perhaps we will find out.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
YouTube streamers discover crime scene linked to mass shooting
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A Kentucky couple live streamed the moment they discovered a crime scene linked to a mass shooting that left five people injured and an 'armed and dangerous' suspect on the loose.

Sheila and Fred McCoy filmed themselves trekking through thick brush and climbing over branches at the Daniel Boone National Forest on Wednesday before ultimately finding a dead body.

The discovery was made less than a mile from the location of a shooting on Interstate 75 near London, Kentucky on September 7, WLKY reports.

Authorities have said they believed suspected gunman Joseph Couch, 32, may have been hiding in the wooded area and offered a $35,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest. Local and federal spent days scouring the forest.

Officials have not yet confirmed whether the body found by the McCoys was Couch's, as DNA samples were rushed to a lab.

Authorities have alleged that Couch, a former member of the US Army Reserves, fired 20 to 30 rounds at around 5.30pm on September 7.

When officers arrived at the scene, they noticed multiple vehicles were parked on the side of the interstate highway with shattered windows and visible bullet holes, according to the Courier-Journal. Fortunately, nobody was killed in the rampage, but Rebecca Puryear, who was shot across her chest in her right arm told the Lexington Herald-Leader she's thankful to be alive.

It was later revealed that Couch sent a chilling text message to the mother of his child, informing her that he was 'going to kill a lot of people' and 'kill myself afterwards.' The woman called 911 after receiving the messages and was later interviewed by police.

Laurel County Dispatch received a call from a woman who told them Couch had sent her the text messages at 5.03pm on Saturday, according to an affidavit written by Capt. Richard Dalrymple of the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities then received the first report of the shooting at around 5.30pm.

In response to the woman's 911 call, police initiated a tracker on Couch's cellphone but the location wasn't received until 6.53pm, the affidavit states, almost 90 minutes after the highway shooting.

Police said they later discovered Couch's abandoned Toyota on top of a hill near a forest access road, and when searching the nearby area on Sunday, officers found a green Army-style duffel bag, ammunition and numerous spent shell casings, the affidavit says. The duffel bag had 'Couch' hand-written in black marker.

A short distance away, they found a Colt AR-15 rifle with a site mounted to the weapon and several additional magazines.

An employee of a gun store in London, Center Target Firearms, informed authorities that Couch purchased an AR-15 and 1,000 rounds of ammunition just hours before the shooting, the affidavit said. Joe Arnold, the gun store's manager, declined to comment Monday. He said he did not want to interfere with the investigation, but added: 'We'd love for him to be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.'

Couch was previously arrested last month on charges of terroristic threatening in the third-degree, and was released on a $1,000 bond. The status of his case is not clear, however Kentucky has some of the loosest gun laws in the nation, including not requiring a background check or permit to buy a firearm.

Couch was also previously arrested in 2020 on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to maintain insurance.

-Great Cultural Revolution
'Kill the Jew:' Play stupid games, win stupid prizes
[IsraelNationalNews] Antisemites are very angry. They are so convinced that they are on the so-called "right side of history" that they must be given a pass for hate, for violence, even for murder.

Last week, in Newton, Massachusetts, a man became so enraged at the sight of people supporting Israel that he ran across the street and tackled another man 15 years his elder, not a Jew but an Iraq veteran who supports the right of Jews to live, to the ground. Even after being pulled off of his victim, he continued to attack the pro-Israel demonstrator until his intended victim drew his gun and shot the attacker.

As the saying goes, play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

It turns out there are consequences to physically attacking other people, one of which is the risk that they might actually defend themselves and put you in the hospital. Make no mistake, Caleb Gannon is no victim. All he had to do to avoid having a bullet in his gut was not be a violent brute, but he chose to be a violent brute and paid the price. He is fortunate that his intended victim is more civilized than he is and did not think twice about providing medical assistance to someone who tried to bash his head in.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR, is very angry at the Los Angeles City Council for responding to the pogrom staged outside a local synagogue in June by barring protesters from coming within eight feet of the institution outside of which they are protesting. According to CAIR, Jews have no civil rights, certainly not the right to freedom of worship or freedom not to be assaulted at their places of worship. They want to play stupid games for free and for all the consequences to be paid by their Jewish victims.

This belief that violence should be consequence-free if directed at Jews or "Zionists" has been fed by officials like Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who outrageously refused to charge the majority of the anti-Israel protesters who illegally took over Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall and held an innocent janitor against his will last Spring.

It has been fed by universities that refuse to take action against genocidal hatred against Jews, like Cornell, which couldn’t be bothered to discipline Russell Rickford after he called the October 7 massacre "exhilarating" and who is back teaching at the school as if he didn’t sing the praises of the worst massacre committed against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Most outrageously, this belief that violence against Jews should be met with cheers and not so much as mild criticism has been fed by the President and Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Biden stated that the worst people in America "have a point," and Harris said that people motivated by nothing but hatred "are showing exactly what the human emotion should be."

Why shouldn’t Caleb Gannon tackle and beat a man he disagrees with about Israel if the President agrees he "has a point?" Why shouldn’t Islamists and Nazis attack Jews outside synagogues and create pogroms if the Democratic presidential nominee says their hate makes them role models?

The belief that violence against Jews should be consequence-free is the core belief of the global anti-Zionist movement. The goal is the return to the days when Jews could be attacked, beaten, raped, and murdered in the cruelest ways imaginable with the government either looking the other way or actively supporting and encouraging the violence.

This is why Israel’s attempts to defend the lives of its children always receive more condemnation than the murderous and genocidal actions of the Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist organizations. UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese is perhaps the most honest official in this regard, as she has openly claimed that Israel has no right to self-defense, but the belief that Hamas and Hezbollah have the right to murder Jews with total impunity is widespread throughout the UN and the so-called "progressive" world.

Hamas committed an act of genocide, a massacre of historic proportions and unfathomable evil and barbarity. And it did so against a state with a superior military to its own forces. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Of course it was going to be hit hard in response. Of course Israel was going to do whatever it could to prevent such a massacre from being repeated. No sane nation would engage in a simple tit for tat and return to the status quo ante after such atrocities. The prize Hamas received was the decimation of its leadership, the destruction of its military infrastructure, and the deaths of half of its fighting force in addition to all those terrorists who have been wounded or captured during the war.

If Hamas had not played the stupid game of trying to wipe out the Jewish people, there would be no war and no destruction in Gaza.

If Hamas had agreed to any of the ceasefires the Biden Administration has attempted to force on Israel, the war would have ended and it would have remained in power in Gaza.

But it continues to play the stupid game in the hopes its genocidal supporters and cowardly world leaders will deliver something other than a stupid prize.

Hezbollah, not content to let Hamas have all the Jew-killing fun, has been attacking Israel nonstop for the last 11 months, ever since the October 7 massacre. It has fired more than 6,000 rockets at Israel, causing tens of thousands of Israelis to be displaced from their homes in the north for nearly a year. In the worst attack, 12 innocent children were massacred when a Hezbollah rocket struck a playground where they were playing soccer.

On Tuesday, Hezbollah became the latest player to experience the life lesson - play stupid games, win stupid prizes — when hundreds, of not thousands, of pagers it distributed to its terrorist operatives exploded simultaneously throughout Lebanon. The pagers, which were meant to protect Hezbollah from Israeli surveillance and intelligence, became the source of its greatest humiliation ever. Never has a terrorist organization been made into such a laughingstock as Hezbollah was when thousands of its operatives had their pants explode.

Already, there are outcries that the pager explosions were another genocide and that it was a crime, coming from those who think the genocide of Jews should be consequence-free. But Hezbollah has only itself to blame. Like Hamas, it invited destruction by attacking a stronger military power, by displacing tens of thousands from their homes, murdering children, and creating an intolerable situation where Israel would have no choice but to act against it. If Hezbollah had stayed out of the war, if it had not attempted to get a piece of the Jew-killing action, its terrorists would not have been emasculated.

Lebanon and Gaza have both won the stupid prize by playing the stupid game of hate. Both Gaza's territory and Lebanese country and could have been paradises, with bustling economies, strong tourist sector, and a high standard of living for their residents. Instead, they both fell under the sway of terrorist organizations, Iranian proxies more concerned with serving the Ayatollah and forging a global caliphate in the blood of infidels than the well-being of the people of Gaza and Lebanon. The result was economic collapse, political corruption, and the wasting of generations on nothing but death.

From the streets of Newton and Los Angeles to the tunnels underneath Rafah and the Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut, antisemites are finally facing a reality where the rules of the popular 2,000-year-old game of ’kill the Jew’ have changed. Thanks to the success of Zionism, there are now places where attacking Jews has consequences.

’Kill the Jew’ is a stupid game that results in very stupid prizes. Just ask those Hezbollah terrorists who suddenly had large holes in their pants.

Hamas says Middle East stability at risk following Lebanon attacks
But it wasn't at risk after the October 7th attack...
[GEO.TV] Hamas has accused Israel of orchestrating a new series of electronic device explosions in Lebanon that have resulted in 14 deaths and over 450 injuries today, Al Jazeera reported.

In a statement, Hamas condemned what it described as ongoing "Zionist aggression against the Lebanese people," noting that these attacks, which occurred just a day after explosions from pagers killed 12 people and injured 2,800, "now threaten the security and stability of the region."

Britain
Netanyahu hits out at UK's Starmer in interview with British newspaper Today
[IsraelTimes] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hits out at his British counterpart Keir Starmer, telling the Daily Mail newspaper that his "misguided" government was "sending a horrible message" to Hamas with the recent decision to suspend dozens of arm export licenses to Israel.

"After the October 7 Hamas massacre, the previous British government was clear in its support," says Netanyahu, referring to then-premier Rishi Sunak’s Tory government. "Unfortunately, the current government is sending mixed messages."
Not mixed at all, though Sir Keir’s party likes to pretend for the rubes.
Netanyahu adds: "They say that Israel has the right to defend itself, but they undermine our ability to exercise that right both by reversing Britain’s position on the absurd allegations made by the ICC prosecutor against Israel and by blocking weapons sales to Israel as we fight against the genocidal terrorist organization that carried out the October 7 massacre."
Just like the good old times of the British mandate!

[CNN] Tupperware, known the world over for its plastic food storage containers, has filed for bankruptcy after years of falling popularity and financial troubles.

"Over the last several years, the company's financial position has been severely impacted by the challenging macroeconomic environment," Laurie Ann Goldman, president and CEO of Tupperware Brands Corporation, said in a statement late Tuesday.

Chapter 11 bankruptcy allows companies to solve their financial problems by restructuring. "This process is meant to provide us with essential flexibility as we pursue strategic alternatives to support our transformation into a digital-first, technology-led company," Goldman added.

Tupperware has historically sold to consumers only through so-called direct sales, most commonly at "Tupperware parties," similar to cosmetic company Avon's business model, and only began selling in Target in 2022. The 78-year-old brand empowered women to enter the sales business.

Trump assassination plots expose FBI, Secret Service vulnerabilities and failures
[JustTheNews] Early warnings about second would-be Trump assassin latest evidence of federal law enforcement vulnerabilities.

Pakistani man trying to help Iran assassinate Donald Trump gets waived into the United States. An American who would later try to shoot Trump is flagged at the border but gets no follow-up. A young man acting suspiciously at a Trump rally isn't confronted until he starts firing. And agents fail to confront a future would-be assassin after getting a tip about illegal weapons.

The back-to-back assassination attempts against the 45th president and current GOP nominee have exposed glaring failures and vulnerabilities inside several federal law enforcement agencies and prompted painful questions about whether the FBI and Secret Service are too lax when it comes to proactive security.

"I was disappointed in just the blasé attitude there. These aren't normal times," Sen. Ron Johnson, the top Republican on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, told the "Just the News, No Noise" television show.

"They have to provide greater security for President Trump, and they've got to get those resources wherever they can get it. And President Biden, using his executive authority, ought to make sure that they get those resources," he added.

A former Navy SEAL turned congressman told Just the News that the country was lucky that the first two assassination attempts involved amateurish tactics and warned that a real professional assassin likely would have succeeded.

"The problem with that is is we're sending a signal to the rest of the world and even individuals within our own country who hate President Trump, that these guys, without any training and experience, are getting very close," Rep. Eli Crane, R-Ariz., told the John Solomon Reports podcast.

"And that's a very dangerous precedent and a very dangerous signal that we are sending to the enemies of President Trump," Crane said.

The assassination attempt Sunday in Florida stunned security experts because the Secret Service had not swept or locked down the golf course with a security perimeter, and did not have cameras or drones to detect Ryan Routh even as the alleged assassin lingered for 12 long hours looking for a shot.

Now there are questions about earlier intervention with Routh.

Emerging evidence shows that Routh flashed across the federal law enforcement radar at least four times since 2019 without any significant intervention.

For instance, Just the News reported Tuesday that U.S. Customs and Border Protection flagged Routh during a return trip from Ukraine and referred him to Homeland Security Investigations to be probed but the agency declined to do so. Instead, the suspect traveled to Florida and was spotted by the Secret Service with the barrel of his gun poking through the bushes, poised to fire on Trump as he golfed at his South Florida course Sunday.

The FBI and Secret Service have recently
…not just recently — 9/11 was problematic, too…
been plagued by cases where investigators had flagged troubling behavior by suspects before they would go on to plan or commit serious crimes. These examples include failure to track Thomas Crooks, the first attempted Trump assassin, at the Pennsylvania rally and the Homeland Security Department’s decision to allow Asif Raza Merchant, a Pakistani national planning an assassination attempt against U.S. officials, into the country.

Routh’s assassination attempt was no different. Two other known warnings preceded the flag by border entry officials in 2023. A 2022 report by a volunteer nurse warning officials about Routh’s unstable behavior and a 2019 tip to the FBI that Routh was illegally in possession of a firearm as a felon both seemingly show that Routh had been on federal law enforcement radar on at least two other occasions. Curiously, Routh has been interviewed several times by major media outlets prior to his death-stalking Trump last week. Routh has been quoted as a credible voice by Reuters, Newsweek, The New York Times, AFP, and others, speaking two years ago about his alleged commitment to supporting the war in Ukraine.

U.S. border entry records show Routh was interviewed in June 2023 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials when he returned from Ukraine last year and flagged for further investigation based on spontaneous comments he made to agents, but the Homeland Security Department simply declined to act, Just the News reported Tuesday.

Government records show that CBP officials knew that Routh had traveled to Warsaw, Poland, near the Ukraine border, and to Istanbul, Turkey, in 2022 and 2023 and had admitted in his interview that he had been recruiting as many as 100 foreign fighters from Taiwan, Afghanistan and Moldova to join Ukraine's war against the Russian invasion.

The self-appointed Ukraine advocate was referred to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the lead investigative organ of the Homeland Security Department, but the division declined to pursue the matter. It is not clear why HSI refused to probe Routh further. The agency referred Just the News to the FBI when reached for comment Tuesday.

The FBI did not respond to a request for comment from Just the News.

Chelsea Walsh, a nurse who volunteered in Kyiv, Ukraine in 2022, claims she told Border Protection agents about several encounters she had with Routh in the country. She told CBP authorities she suspected Routh was dangerous in an interview when she returned to Dulles airport in Washington a year before Routh’s encounter with the agency in Honolulu. In a notebook kept during her trip to Ukraine, Walsh wrote that Routh exhibited “Overall Predatory Behavior (or antisocial traits),” according to a page she shared with the Wall Street Journal.

Walsh also told the Journal that after Routh described to her his efforts to recruit Syrian refugees to fight in Ukraine against Russia, she submitted an online report to both the FBI and Interpol with her concerns about the future would-be assassin.

Jeffrey Veltri, special agent in charge of the FBI's Miami Field Office, at a press conference yesterday in South Florida told reporters that a tip came in 2019 that Routh was in possession of a firearm as a felon. Veltri said the tipster failed to confirm details of his report and so the bureau referred the complaint to the local police department where Routh was living Hawaii. It does not appear local police pursued the lead after it was referred by the bureau.

Routh was convicted of felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction—a machine gun—along with carrying a concealed weapon, possessing stolen property, and a hit-and-run in Greensboro, NC, where he lived before moving to Hawaii in 2018. There are also charges related to driving with a suspended license, according to the court records obtained from Guilford County, where Greensboro is situated.

Just the News previously reported federal authorities allowed Asif Raza Merchant, the Pakistani man charged with plotting with Tehran to assassinate Donald Trump and others, to enter the U.S. in April with special permission known as “significant public benefit parole” even though he was flagged on a terrorism watchlist and recently traveled to Iran, according to similar border entry records.

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force interviewed Merchant, fingerprinted him and inspected the contents of his electronic devices when he arrived at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, in Houston, but then let him leave with the special parole that expired on May 11 despite his suspicious travel history which included a visit to Iran—a state sponsor of terrorism—and watchlist flag.

The Justice Department says Merchant tried to hire an individual for an assassination plot shortly after he entered the country in April and that individual become a confidential informant for law enforcement after reporting the contact. He was reportedly targeting Donald Trump. Merchant was ultimately arrested on July 12 as he attempted to make arrangements to leave the country.

The Secret Service was plagued by several security failures leading up to the first Trump assassination attempt in Butler, PA, in July. The investigation into the assassination attempt that left one attendee dead, and three injured including Trump, is being led by the FBI.

Before Thomas Crooks, the 20-year-old Pennsylvania native, opening fire on the former president and his rally attendees, local law enforcement teams reportedly flagged him as suspicious, even taking photos of the would-be assassin before he climbed on the roof of a nearby building and launched his attack.

#1  RedState - Man Who Tried to Assassinate Trump Was Flagged by a Second Federal Agency, Then Ignored

BLUF: Given what this guy was doing in Ukraine and his interactions with CBP agents and with a CIA agent (as Susie reported Monday), and the fact that a nurse working in Ukraine brought Routh to the attention of CBP as a dangerous person, there's no way the various intelligence agencies in our country didn't have him on their radar or under constant surveillance. If Tucker Carlson interacting with people in Russia for an interview was enough to have his Signal account hacked and communications tapped, with the level of interaction Routh was having with foreign agents around the world he had to have had a FISA warrant active on his communications, right? Perhaps we will find out.

Thousands of Hezbollah’s handheld radios explode
[NYPOST] A second wave of blasts rocked Hezbollah on Wednesday as thousands of radios and other devices used by the terror group were detonated across Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, security sources and witnesses said.

Additional explosions were reported throughout the capital of Beirut and in the country's south following Tuesday's massive security breach that caused Hezbollah pagers to explode, killing at least 12 people and injuring another 2,800.

At least one of the new blasts heard took place near a funeral organized by the terror group for those killed in the first wave of explosions, which Hezbollah has blamed Israel for, Rooters reported.
That was a good one
Officials have yet to confirm the links between the two attacks or the exact devices that went kaboom! on Wednesday.

The AR-924 pagers that were detonated on Tuesday were all the latest models acquired by Hezbollah five months ago and allegedly manufactured in Budapest, according to a statement released by Gold Apollo — a Taiwanese firm that authorized the use of its brand on the pagers.

Study: Drug-Resistant Superbugs Forecast to Kill Millions by 2050
[Epoch Times] Infections that resist treatment by antibiotics could cause nearly 40 million deaths by 2050, according to a new study urging immediate action.

The study, published on Sept. 16 in The Lancet, provides a stark forecast for the future impact of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and highlights the growing threat posed by drug-resistant pathogens.

The research, carried out by the Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (GRAM) Project, covers 204 countries and territories and offers the most comprehensive analysis of the global AMR burden to date.

The study emphasizes several policy measures that could significantly reduce AMR-related deaths. These include improving the quality of health care in hospitals and clinics, expanding access to life-saving antibiotics, and promoting the responsible use of antibiotics in various settings.

"The continued overuse of antimicrobials, both in human health and in agriculture, produces an environment that selects for increasingly resistant bacteria," the researchers warned.

The study’s authors also called for a renewed focus on prevention, such as vaccination, infection control in healthcare settings, and improved sanitation.

"New prevention efforts to address AMR must remain a priority for global health policymakers," the researchers wrote, warning that without sustained efforts, the world faces a future where once-treatable infections could become life-threatening again.

Pakistan decries IIOJK polls, demands action against Modi over human rights' violations
[GEO.TV] President Asif Ali Ten Percent Zardari

...former president of Pakistain, husband of the late Benazir Bhutto, who has been singularly lacking in curiosity about who done her in...
on Wednesday categorically rejected the elections for the legislative assembly of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
(IIOJK), asserting that these polls were no substitute for the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination.

Provincial elections are being held in the occupied territory for the first time in a decade.

The occupied Moslem-majority region enjoyed a special status of partial autonomy until 2019 which was then revoked by the far-right Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party's government.

IIOJK's special semi-autonomous status — constitutionally enshrined power to control its affairs — had meant that only those who descended from residents of the territory in 1934 could vote and own property.

The polls are being held after the Indian Supreme Court, last year, upheld the government's decision and set a deadline of September 30 this year for local polls.

President Zardari, talking to a delegation of migrants colonists from IIOJK — residing in Pakistain since 1989 — led by Uzair Ahmed Ghazali at Aiwan-e-Sadr, emphasised that such elections were unacceptable to the people of Kashmir and called upon the international community to hold the Modi government accountable for ongoing human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
violations in IIOJK.

He further urged the need to take concrete steps toward conducting a plebiscite in line with relevant United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council Resolutions.

Welcoming the delegation, the president condemned the legislative assembly elections in IIOJK, terming them as part of India's broader strategy to consolidate its illegal occupation of the region.

Is nowhere safe? 'Billionaires Isle' rocked as illegal migrant, 28, is arrested over 'detestable and disturbing' crime
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] The ritzy Massachusetts island of Nantucket has been rocked after an illegal migrant was arrested over his 'detestable and disturbing rape' of a child.

Bryan Daniel Aldana-Arevalo, 28, a Salvadorian national, was taken into custody on September 10 over an alleged incident that occurred on July 11 involving a 12-year-old, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Boston Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) office announced Monday.

He faces one count of rape of a child with a 10-year age difference and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, according to the agency. Aldana-Arevalo pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on July 26 and was held in custody on a $20,000 bail. On July 29 he was released after bail was posted.

The incident allegedly occurred while the mother and daughter visited family in Nantucket. A social worker then contacted NYPD detectives about the assault before the Nantucket Police Department interviewed the minor about the incident involving Aldana-Arevalo - a relative of the child, according to the outlet.

The illegal migrant 'unlawfully entered the U.S. on an unknown date, at an unknown location' and was not 'inspected, admitted or paroled by a U.S. immigration official,' according to the agency.

His attorney, Rob Moriarty, argued for a $2,500 bail for Aldana-Arevalo, stating that was what his client 'could afford,' the outlet reported. Moriarty added that Aldana-Arevalo, who has lived on the island for three years, should not face bail because he remained in Nantucket during the investigation.

A second illegal migrant was arrested by ICE agents on September 11 on the small island and was identified Tuesday as Gean Do Amaral Belafronte, 31. Belafronte was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years or older, ERO Boston said. The alleged incident occurred on April 13, 2021 and according to the police report, obtained by Nantucket Current, Belefronte allegedly approached the victim, grabbed her, pushed her to the ground and climbed on top of her. During the alleged assault, he told the female victim 'I will rape you,' while 'he licked her lips.'

An arraignment for Belafronte was scheduled for June 9, but he never showed. Because of that, the Nantucket District Court issued a default warrant for his arrest which saw him arrested again. He was released on bail later that day.

The Brazilian national lawfully entered the U.S. on October 8, 2018, but after violating the terms of his admission he 'voluntarily departed' the country on April 18, 2021 - five days after the alleged incident took place, the agency reported.

On an unknown date and location, 'without being inspected, admitted or paroled' by an ICE official, Belafronte re-entered the U.S. On March 12, 2024 he was arrested again and at 3pm that day he was arraigned on the indecent assault and battery charge. Belafronte was then released on $500 cash bail.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
How Israeli spies 'stashed explosives in 5,000 pagers at production level months ago before detonating Hezbollah devices' - as 'coded text that triggered blasts' is revealed
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A pager bomb attack that left roughly 2,800 Hezbollah members and civilians injured and 12 dead in Lebanon and Syria yesterday was authored by Israel's Mossad spy agency and the IDF, several security sources claim.

The Lebanese group earlier this year ordered thousands of pagers to conduct communications after leader Hassan Nasrallah declared smartphones would be more susceptible to cyber attacks by Israeli forces.

Israeli military and intelligence personnel managed to access 5,000 pagers 'at the production level' and insert a small amount of high explosives months before they were imported to Lebanon, according to several security sources who spoke to Reuters.

'The Mossad injected a board inside of the device that has explosive material that receives a code. It's very hard to detect it through any means. Even with any device or scanner,' a Lebanese security source said.

The source claimed Hezbollah ordered the pagers from a Taiwanese company called Gold Apollo, but executives there said the devices were actually manufactured and sold under licence by BAC Consulting in Budapest, Hungary.

Elijah J. Magnier, a Brussels-based senior political risk analyst, later said he spoke with Hezbollah members who had examined pagers that failed to explode. The pagers appeared to receive a coded error message sent to all the devices that caused them to vibrate and beep for some 10 seconds. When the user pressed the pager's button to cancel the alert, the explosives were detonated - a design that would ensure the pager was being held by the user at the time of the blast to inflict maximum damage.

The months-long operation by Mossad and the IDF represents an unprecedented security breach for Hezbollah, which vowed to exact revenge on Israel and continue its support for ally Hamas amid the ongoing war in Gaza.

'The resistance will continue today, like any other day, its operations to support Gaza, its people and its resistance which is a separate path from the harsh punishment that the criminal enemy (Israel) should await in response to Tuesday's massacre,' a statement read.

A US security official today said that the attack was planned for a later date as part of an 'all-out offensive' against Hezbollah, but Israel chose to detonate the devices early amid concerns the Lebanese group had become aware of the plan.

'It was a use it or lose it moment,' the source told Axios on condition of anonymity.

The string of detonations, which began around 3:30pm local time yesterday and continued for roughly an hour, gave way to widespread panic and chaos across Beirut's southern suburbs, southern Lebanon and even in neighbouring Syria. Among the 12 people reportedly killed were two girls, aged eight and ten, and several Hezbollah fighters, as well as the son of a Lebanese MP. Iran later confirmed its ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, sustained injuries to his face and hand.

More than 2,800 people were ultimately injured in the blasts, 300 of whom were rushed to hospital in critical condition. Early speculation in the wake of the blasts suggested an Israeli hack could have overloaded the lithium ion batteries powering the pagers, which can burn up to 590 degrees celsius (1,100 F) when ignited.

But a slew of security sources and experts have since determined the detonations were caused by an Israeli operation that disrupted the supply chain and inserted explosives into the pagers that were subsequently remotely activated by the coded error message. A former British Army bomb disposal officer explained that an explosive device has five main components: A container, a battery, a triggering device, a detonator and an explosive charge.

'A pager has three of those already,' explained the ex-officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he now works as a consultant with clients on the Middle East.

'You would only need to add the detonator and the charge.'

By the time of the attack, 'the battery was probably half-explosive and half-actual battery,' said Carlos Perez, director of security intelligence at TrustedSec.

Security camera footage shared to social media yesterday appeared to show the moment on Israel sent out its deadly message. A Hezbollah member was seen confusedly lifting his shirt up at a supermarket after his pager, concealed just above his hip, began beeping and lighting up. The device suddenly exploded, crumpling him to the floor as supermarket workers and fellow shoppers panicked and fled.

'Looking at the video, the size of the detonation is similar to that caused by an electric detonator alone or one that incorporates an extremely small, high-explosive charge,' said Sean Moorhouse, a former British Army officer and explosive ordinance disposal expert.

Initial reports suggested the pagers ordered by Hezbollah were supplied by a Taiwanese company called Gold Apollo. But executives this morning said the company had only authorised its brand on the devices, and that they were manufactured and sold by Hungary's BAC Consulting KFT.

'Apollo Gold Corporation has established a long-term private label authorisation and regional agency cooperation with BAC,' a statement read.

'According to the agreement, we authorise BAC to use our brand trademark for production sales in specific regions, but the design and manufacturing of the products are entirely handled by BAC.'

Gold Apollo chair Hsu Ching-kuang told journalists this morning that his company has had a licensing agreement with BAC for the past three years, but did not provide evidence of the contract. The CEO of BAC Consulting, Cristiana Barsony-Arcidiacono, says on her LinkedIn profile that she has worked as an advisor for various organisations including UNESCO.

She was contacted by NBC and confirmed her company worked with Gold Apollo, but added cryptically: 'I don't make the pagers. I am just the intermediate. I think you got it wrong,' before hanging up.

The AR-924 pager ordered by Hezbollah, advertised as being 'rugged,' contains a rechargeable lithium battery, according to specifications once advertised on Gold Apollo's website before it was apparently taken down Tuesday after the sabotage attack. It could receive text messages of up to 100 characters. It also claimed to have up to 85 days of battery life - a crucial factor in Lebanon, where electricity outages have been common as the tiny nation on the Mediterranean Sea has faced years of economic collapse.

Israel has killed Hamas militants in the past with booby trapped cellphones and it's widely believed to have been behind the Stuxnet computer virus attack on Iran's nuclear program in 2010.

Death toll from new explosions in Lebanon rises to 14
The death toll in Lebanon as a result of the second series of explosions of communication devices has risen to 14. This was reported on September 18 by the Al Mayadeen TV channel, citing data from the country's Ministry of Health.

It is noted that at least 450 people were injured.

As previously reported by the Regnum news agency, radios, mobile phones and other means of communication began to explode in Lebanon on September 18. According to the Al-Nahar TV channel, the radios were purchased together with pagers, which detonated en masse in Lebanon on September 17.

On September 18, the Hezbollah movement promised Israel a harsh response to the massacre of the Lebanese people. The movement also called retribution for the sabotage inevitable for Tel Aviv.

The American newspaper The New York Times wrote on September 17 that Israel was behind the mass detonation of pagers in Lebanon. According to the publication, the Israeli side placed explosives in a batch of pagers, which were then purchased by Hezbollah.
”Frissons all around, boys and girls! ….and others! We, the mighty New York Times, have revealed more of Israel’s secrets to the WORLD!!”
Israel's national intelligence service, Mossad, planted a small amount of explosives in 5,000 devices ordered by Hezbollah several months before the latest events, a source told Reuters.

iPhones Experience Massive Failures After iOS Update
iPhone owners have begun to complain en masse about errors in the operation of their gadgets after the iOS 18 update. This was reported on September 17 by the American newspaper The New York Post.

According to them, the performance of the devices has dropped sharply after this. Users claim that the gadgets have started to discharge quickly, and after connecting to the power supply, the charge is replenished very slowly. Thus, the phone can
discharge up to 67% within two hours, even if it is not used, the article notes. In addition, after updating the system, many background processes are launched.

And only a few owners of such smartphones said that the update did not affect their battery charge in any way.

Repair center employees in Russia noted an increase in the number of requests for smartphone repair. In an hour, their number increased to an average of 20. Specialists noted that the most common problems are encountered by owners of models with new parts, batteries and displays: after the update, they began to overheat and break.

As reported by IA Regnum, the updated product line was shown by American Apple as part of the autumn presentation on September 9. The line consists of the standard iPhone 16, the Plus modification, as well as the flagship Pro and Pro Max.

According to the developers, the Apple 16 and Apple 16 Plus in aluminum cases are equipped with the A18 processor, which makes them 40% faster compared to the Apple 15. The phones' cameras have also been updated to 48 megapixels, battery life has been increased, and sound quality has been improved. The smartphones will use artificial intelligence technology.

Sales are scheduled to start in several countries on September 20.

[GEO.TV] US Senator Bernie Sanders said on Wednesday he would file legislation seeking to block the sale of offensive US weapons to Israel, citing the toll on civilians of Israel's campaign against Hamas.

Sanders, an independent Socialist who caucuses with Democrats, said he intended to file Joint Resolutions of Disapproval next week.
He’ll never forgive Israel for not being a Stalinist kibbutz writ large, like the one where he spent a summer vacation back in his youth — not that he made any impression on anyone there at the time

Pager Strike: Why Israel Activated Explosives Now
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Leonid Tsukanov

[REGNUM] On September 17, a mass explosion of pagers occurred in Lebanon. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, more than 4,000 people were injured in different parts of the country, at least 11, including one child, died from their injuries.

Also, according to officially unconfirmed reports, the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was wounded, which was considered clear confirmation of the close ties between Lebanese Hezbollah and official Tehran.

Responsibility for the incident was placed on Israel, which had “re-soldered” a batch of pagers delivered to Lebanon in advance, sealing a small explosive charge in the batteries.

At the appointed hour, the detonators went off, triggering a chain of micro-explosions. At the same time, the version of a “high-precision cyber attack” against the devices, which was spread in the first hours after the incident, did not stand up to criticism and fell apart.

The "pager attack" has taken the confrontation between the "Axis of Resistance" and Israel to a new level. Under these conditions, Iran, Hezbollah's main ally, will have to not only restrain the movement from retaliation, but also somehow ensure a "common response" to all previous attacks against the "Axis".

REACHED THE ENEMY
Pagers may seem like a thing of the past, but they remain a backup method of communication: in 2024, there are still more than 2 million devices in use worldwide.

Not long ago, Lebanese Hezbollah also began using pagers as a means of operational communication on a permanent basis.

According to its leader, this was supposed to complicate the work of Israeli intelligence services in “knocking out” high-ranking figures of the movement.

The use of this method became especially relevant after the “Tehran incident,” which resulted in the death of the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh ; the Israelis tracked his exact location via the WhatsApp messenger.

However, the switch to “secure” devices has backfired on Iran’s Lebanese allies.

A batch of Taiwanese pagers, purchased on order from Hezbollah, played the role of a time bomb and allowed the Israelis to simultaneously “reach out” to a significant portion of their opponents at minimal cost.

HEZBOLLAH'S LOSSES ARE MINIMAL
Despite the public outcry that followed the incident, which resonated around the world, Israel managed to achieve its goals only partially, sowing panic in Lebanese society and among the leaders of Hezbollah, who clearly did not expect such a large-scale attack.

At the same time, from the point of view of other objective indicators, the attack was ineffective. In particular, it is known that only one high-ranking functionary of the movement, Deputy Secretary General Naim Kassem, was injured as a result. He received minor injuries.

However, other high-ranking figures, including Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah, were not harmed at all.

There are also questions about the damage inflicted on the group's rank-and-file fighters. At the moment, Hezbollah reports only a dozen of its fighters killed "as a result of Israeli aggression." No details are provided about the wounded.

Considering that representatives of the movement's information bloc, as a rule, are not inclined to understate losses - and, moreover, try in every way to emphasize the sacrifice of Hezbollah members - the main damage from the Israeli attack, apparently, was suffered by the civilian population of Lebanon.

Hezbollah security officials also said many fighters were saved by their vigilance: They noticed the batteries of the new Taiwanese pagers were constantly overheating and "got rid of them in advance."

However, given the confusion that reigns in Lebanon after the “pager attack,” this thesis cannot be confirmed or refuted.

HIDDEN MOTIVES
The US, apparently, was not fully informed about the Israeli special operation. Why did Israel need to carry out such an ambiguous "action", which also resulted in criticism from the UN and damaged relations with the US administration?

Perhaps the most obvious goal is to escalate tensions in the Lebanese-Israeli border area. Israeli security officials have made it clear that the “center of gravity” of the Israeli military operation is shifting from the Gaza Strip to Lebanon, and that a full-scale operation against Hezbollah is a matter of time.

However, Tel Aviv still lacks grounds for launching an offensive.
That’s certainly one perspective, though not the correct one.
Not only the Israeli General Staff, but also representatives of the special services and many opposition parties are against the "Lebanese adventure".

Considering that Hezbollah has already promised Israel “unprecedented retaliation” for yesterday’s attack, the Israeli cabinet may well use this as a justification for its “proactive offensive” into Lebanese territory.

Another goal is to disrupt Iranian-American talks on normalizing relations, the prerequisites for which have been visible in recent months. Tel Aviv is interested in Iran and its closest allies remaining in the category of “America’s enemies” for as long as possible.

In a sense, the plan actually worked. Tehran does not believe that Israel escalated without US sanction, and therefore the degree of hostility towards Washington will certainly increase after the "pager attack."

Finally, the Israeli attack has once again put Iran in an awkward position – postponing the repeatedly announced “retaliatory strike” has become even more difficult.
The poor darlings. One carefully doesn’t think about what surprises await the Mad Mullahs and the IRGC should they do more than talk at this juncture.
In addition, official Tehran is increasingly under pressure from the leaders of key proxy groups, demanding that the Israelis be punished “quickly and demonstratively.”

Moreover, Iran will have to increase the power of its strike in proportion to the damage that Israel has inflicted on it during this time. Refusal to escalate is fraught with the loss of authority within the "Axis of Resistance", and agreement - with the breakdown of a peaceful settlement with neighbors in the region.
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. How perfectly dreadful for the would-be regional hegemon.
In this sense, the Axis’ response will largely determine the vector of further development of the regional confrontation.

#1  Now the paranoia begins. Everyone whose pagers did not injure them will be suspected of working for Israeli intelligence. "Ahmed, why was your pager in a bucket of water when it exploded?"

No one can be trusted. Leadership will be paralyzed. Old feuds and resentments will be settled with accusations of betrayal. Blood will flow.

Well played Israel, well played.

#2  "the most obvious goal"

Israelis are the masters of the pre-emptive strike. Those 4000 wounded Hezbollah will not be major participants in any offensive any time soon. And if the Israelis go into S.Lebanon, those wounded will be sidelined as well.

'Invisible Death': How Gadget Explosions in Lebanon Will Change the World
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[RUSVESNA] It is generally accepted that the SVO in Ukraine led to a revolution in military affairs, radically changing approaches to combat operations.

But the current explosions of gadgets in Lebanon could lead to radical changes of no lesser scale, which, however, will affect not only armies and special services, but also the entire population of the planet.

According to a version circulated in the media, electronic devices with lithium-ion batteries are now exploding. This version has not yet been confirmed (it is possible that gadgets with other batteries are exploding), but one fact is obvious: no matter what element of the gadget the explosives were placed in, they were not detected by the explosive scanners currently in use.
See PETN
Considering that gadgets of both Hezbollah members and the Iranian ambassador exploded, it is obvious that they must have been repeatedly checked for explosives in the past. For example, when entering the embassy or command posts. And this check showed nothing.
In my experience, entry to SCIFs or secure facilities required 'surrender' of devices without inspection.
Often a wall of small locking storage boxes, monitored, like a post office.

In other words, the main conclusion from what happened is that the world has developed a technology for producing explosives that is not detected by currently used control means.

If this assumption is correct (we repeat, the mechanism of detonation is not yet clearly understood), then the consequences could be colossal.

A huge number of processes in everyday life will be at risk.

First of all, air travel. Terrorists, having mastered this technology, will be able to bring gadgets on board and detonate them during the flight.

And this is just one example.

The meaning of many of the devices we use may be rethought, new restrictions and prohibitions may be introduced, and controls may be tightened.

And as a result, the world will definitely not become safer and freer.

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: September 18, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 21:40 Germany has allocated an additional 50 million euros for the treatment of wounded Ukrainian soldiers in its hospitals. According to Interior Minister Nancy Feser, Germany has already evacuated almost 1,200 seriously wounded and injured Ukrainian soldiers and civilians and provided them with assistance in German hospitals.

21:34 Russia produces 42 to 56 ballistic and 90 to 115 long-range cruise missiles per month, which can be used to strike deep into Ukrainian territory, including energy infrastructure. The production rate of Shahed-136 drones is more than 500 units, Forbes Ukraine writes, citing an intelligence source.

20:59 The defence ministers of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia have called on NATO in a joint statement to prepare a "collective response" to the violation of the Alliance's airspace by Russian drones and missiles. "This new reality cannot be ignored. We need a collective response within NATO to the challenges posed by modern weapons and technologies, including by strengthening our ability to detect, identify and, if necessary, engage low and slow flying objects," the statement said.

20:17 Zelensky said in an evening video address that the victory plan is completely ready: "There is not and cannot be any alternative to peace, no freezing of the war or any other manipulations that will simply transfer Russian aggression to another stage. We need reliable and long-term security for Ukraine, and therefore for all of Europe." The president also emphasized the need to implement agreements with international partners, in particular on staffing brigades and deliveries of promised air defense systems.

In addition, Zelensky noted "a very important result" on the territory of Russia: "Such inspiring accuracy." In this regard, the head of state thanked the special services - the SBU, the GUR, the Special Operations Forces.

The head of state also reported that he heard two reports from Syrsky today - on defense and offensive steps, "regarding changes in the situation in the Kursk region and our reaction - a strong reaction." In particular, the model of the tribunal, which will be created by an agreement with the Council of Europe, was determined. The Core Group participants moved from general issues of the format of the special tribunal to discussing the draft Charter. The meeting was attended by 41 delegations. All of them confirmed that those guilty of the crime of aggression against Ukraine will be brought to justice, and also determined the next steps in creating a special tribunal.

Government Corruption
Biden's Department Of Energy Short On Cash To Refill SPR At Low Prices
[ZeroHedge] The price of the U.S. WTI crude oil has finally stayed in the low $70s per barrel for a sustainable period of time, allowing the Biden Administration to ramp up the refill of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), which it had said would do at prices of $79 a barrel or below.

WTI Crude is now at $70 per barrel as of Tuesday morning, after spending days below that threshold.

But the Energy Department has just $841 million left to buy crude for the SPR, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday, citing an estimate by ClearView Energy Partners, a consulting firm. That money would be enough to buy only around 12 million barrels of crude at today’s prices, per Bloomberg’s calculations.

This would be a drop in the ocean, considering that the SPR is only just over half full compared to its capacity of 700 million barrels.

DOE's Office of Petroleum Reserves has recently announced a call for bids to supply up to 1.5 million barrels of oil to the Bayou Choctaw site in January 2025. An additional solicitation will follow on August 12, 2024, for another 2 million barrels destined for the Bryan Mound site, also for delivery in January 2025.

The replenishment strategy comes in the wake of the SPR's critical role in stabilizing the market during global supply disruptions, notably the release of more than 180 million barrels of oil from the SPR starting in 2021, as gasoline prices remained high. The Department of Treasury claims that these releases, along with coordinated international efforts, helped reduce gasoline prices by up to 40 cents per gallon in 2022.

The SPR currently houses 375 million barrels of crude—a figure that is 263 million barrels less than oil in the SPR at the beginning of President Joe Biden’s term in office. The SPR, capable of storing as many as 714 million barrels of crude oil, is kept in underground salt caverns at four sites in Texas and Louisiana and was designed to protect the economy and American livelihoods during oil shortages.

FBI disrupts Chinese cyber operation targeting critical infrastructure in the US
[YahooFinance] The FBI has disrupted a group of hackers working at the direction of the Chinese government who targeted universities, government agencies and other organizations, Director Chris Wray said Wednesday.

The hacking campaign known as Flax Typhoon installed malicious software on more than 200,000 consumer devices, including cameras, video recorders and home and office routers, to create a massive botnet — a network of infected computers. The botnet was used to facilitate cyber crimes, such as the theft of sensitive information from victims' networks.

“Flax Typhoon’s actions caused real harm to its victims, who had to devote precious time to clean up the mess when they discovered the malware,” Wray said at the Aspen Cyber Summit.

Speaking at the same conference, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said the average citizen should care because the case involves “criminal activity, disruptive activity going on in potentially their devices. And, and it is part of a broader ecosystem that malicious cyber actors are using.”

The FBI and Justice Department, which obtained a warrant to seize the botnet's infrastructure, did not identify any of the targets by name but said they included universities, government agencies, telecommunications providers, media organizations and nongovernmental organizations. Half of the hijacked devices were located in the U.S., Wray said.

“This was another successful disruption, but make no mistake — it’s just one round in a much longer fight,” Wray said. “The Chinese government is going to continue to target your organizations and our critical infrastructure, either by their own hand or concealed through their proxies, and we’ll continue to work with our partners to identify their malicious activity, disrupt their hacking campaigns, and bring them to light.”

Flax Typhoon was described in a Microsoft report in August 2023 that said the group had stepped up its targeting of Taiwanese organizations as well as government agencies in other countries.

The disruption was revealed nine months after Wray disclosed to Congress a separate takedown of a Chinese state-sponsored hacking group known as Volt Typhoon, in which U.S.-based small office and home routers owned by private citizens and companies were hijacked by hackers to cover their tracks as they sowed the malware. Their ultimate targets included water treatment plants, the electrical grid and transportation systems across the U.S.

NN2N1 summarizes the same Ay Pee article from a different source
The FBI Claims:
The hacking campaign known as Flax Typhoon installed malicious software on thousands of Internet-connected devices, including cameras, video recorders, and home and office routers, to create a massive botnet — a network of infected computers.

IF you got a system, or 3rd party app UPDATE recently.
It wouldn't hurt to be safe and take a closer look.

Violent Clashes Erupt in Libyan Capital
[LIBYAREVIEW] Heavy and medium weapon festivities broke out inside the External Security Apparatus headquarters in the Sebaa district of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, according to eyewitness reports.

Libya Press reported, citing witnesses, that members of the External Security forces closed the coastal road near al-Jadida Prison and directed traffic in the opposite direction to avoid the conflict area.

Libya has been in a state of political chaos since the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...>
. The country is divided between two rival administrations: the Government of National Unity (GNU) based in Tripoli, and an eastern administration.

This divide has led to ongoing conflict and instability, with each side vying for control over Libya's resources and key institutions.

Efforts to bring the country together through national elections have been repeatedly delayed due to disputes over who is eligible to run for office and the lack of a unified legal framework. Libya's vast oil wealth has only deepened the divide, as control of oil fields and revenues remains a contentious issue between the East and West.

The country is also plagued by the presence of foreign mercenaries, militias, and external interference, all of which complicate efforts to build a functioning, unified government.

Meteorologist Steve Raleigh learns fate after wild video showed his son in violent parking lot confrontation with elderly couple
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Meteorologist Steve Raleigh will not face charges after a wild video captured his son in a violent parking lot confrontation with an elderly couple.

Prosecutors determined Monday that the veteran Ohio weatherman did not break the law during the road rage incident at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse parking lot on June 22 in Cincinnati.

Raleigh, a forecaster for WCPO TV, was with sons Kyle and Carter when their Cadillac Escalade plowed into a Ford F-150 after failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

Moments later the Ford driver, Douglas Morrow, 79, was on the ground next to his wife Lois, 76, who suffered a fractured skull, bleeding on the brain and a detached retina.

Pressure quickly grew on the Cincinnati Police Department to explain why there were no arrests since the incident, but now, Clermont County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Tekulve said Raleigh has been cleared from the investigation.
Local colour: The Montgomery Inn is known among the cognoscenti as the place in Cincinnati for barbecue ribs and chicken — Bob Hope was a regular. The original site is in the suburb of Montgomery — the boathouse opened in 1989. It’s on the Ohio River across from Riverboat Row in Newport, Kentucky.

The Failed League. Who wanted to divide Russia into four parts
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Pavel Kiselev

[REGNUM] Exactly 90 years ago, on September 18, 1934, the League of Nations opened its meeting at the Palais Wilson in Geneva, where an extraordinary decision was made. The country that Sir Winston Churchill had recently called “the most terrible tyranny in the history of mankind” – the Soviet Union – was accepted into the “club”.

In mid-September, thirty delegates of the League addressed Moscow with a telegram inviting the USSR to join the international organization and “bring its valuable cooperation.”

The appeal to Joseph Stalin was signed by such grandees of international diplomacy as the head of the French Foreign Ministry, Louis Barthou (who would die in a matter of days in a terrorist attack, believed to have been carried out by Nazi Germany) and the head of the London Foreign Office, Anthony Eden (who would soon “slam the door” in disagreement with the policy of appeasement of the fascists).

Western democracies decided to turn to the “country of the Bolsheviks” at a time when the world was in turmoil.

The previous year, in 1933, Adolf Hitler, who had come to power, withdrew Germany from the League so that the newly formed Third Reich would have a free hand in the “living space” of Europe.

At the same time, the Japanese Empire also left the club of civilized countries - after the invasion of Chinese Manchuria, which is considered one of the first "Zarnitsa" of World War II.

Italy, which was listed as one of the founding countries of the League, did not leave the organization, but under the leadership of Duce Benito Mussolini, it was preparing aggression against Ethiopia.

It was becoming clear that the eternal peace after the Great War, which the League of Nations was supposed to guarantee, was nothing more than an interbellum. And the ongoing Great Depression was nothing compared to the looming new global battle.

Paris and London at that time clearly sought to attract the Soviet Union as one of the guarantors of the preservation of the "Versailles" post-war world order. It must be said that our country was in no hurry to play this role.

"A HOUSE OF MEETINGS FOR IMPERIALIST BOSSES"
Thus, in 1927, Stalin spoke very dismissively of the League:

“The Soviet Union does not participate in the League of Nations because it does not want to be an integral part of that screen of imperialist machinations which the League of Nations represents and which it covers up with the unctuous speeches of its members.

The League of Nations under present conditions is a "house of rendezvous" for imperialist bosses who carry out their business behind the scenes. What is officially said in the League of Nations is empty chatter, calculated to deceive the people."

The USSR does not want to take responsibility for the imperialist policy of the League of Nations, for the new military preparations that are “sanctified” by the League, the Soviet leader listed.

The Soviet ideological narrative was dominated by an attitude that Vladimir Mayakovsky had briefly formulated in his “ Soviet ABC ”: “Europe is ruled by the League of Nations. There is plenty of room for thieves to run wild!”

When negotiations between Geneva and Moscow on the entry of the “bosses” into the company finally began, the Kremlin, through the People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs Maxim Litvinov, voiced rather harsh conditions.

The Soviet Union does not take responsibility for decisions previously taken by the League of Nations. Moscow does not like the organization's Charter, since it "in some cases legalizes war" and does not guarantee racial equality.

Finally, explained People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs Litvinov, the USSR with its seven union republics can in itself be called a league of nations, completely self-sufficient.

But, be that as it may, Moscow responded with consent to the invitation to join the global club.

Before answering the question about the reasons for this decision, it is necessary to explain which organization the USSR joined on September 18, 1934.

WILSON'S PULSE
The League of Nations, “born” on January 18, 1919 in the Peace Hall of the Palace of Versailles and dissolved in 1946, after the creation of the United Nations, is usually compared to the UN. Mostly in favor of the currently existing global structure.

The League of Nations was run by three bodies beginning with "s" - the council, the secretariat and the assembly, whose powers duplicated each other. In the UN, the structure is clearer - the General Assembly, the Security Council, the International Criminal Court, etc. are each responsible for their own area of work.

In the League, all member states had equal voting rights, while in the UN, the five countries – permanent members of the Security Council – are “more equal than others”: the countries have the right of veto. The League of Nations had various military control commissions, but did not have its own peacekeeping forces or collective sanctions. The UN is more active than its predecessor in “inventing” international law.

Finally, unlike the League of Nations, a country cannot be expelled from the UN – which would seem to help avoid international ostracism.

But despite all the differences, both international structures have one thing in common. Both have failed to fulfill their declared main task – to preserve international peace. Although the UN was unable to do anything with post-war conflicts – from Korea in 1950 to Donbass in 2014 – the League “failed” more loudly, failing to stop a world war.

But the idea was beautiful, and the scheme seemed to work for a while.

The basis for the emergence of the League of Nations was the “ 14 points on peace conditions” voiced by US President Woodrow Wilson at the end of the First World War, in January 1918.

The idealistic leader of the country that entered the Great War later than others and benefited most from it was sure that the United States would now dictate these very terms of peace – and almost eternal ones at that.

The ideological basis for the post-war Versailles-Washington world order was considered to be the treatise "Towards Eternal Peace" by Immanuel Kant. The working language of the League was planned to be the international artificial language Esperanto (however, it was decided to abandon it in favor of the more practical French and English).

Finally, the opening of the first session of the League was arranged in the most symbolic manner.

On January 18, 1919, 72 delegates from 26 sovereign states and four British dominions gathered in the Peace Hall of the Palace of Versailles (where the defeated Germany would later be “punished”). The “Founding Father” of the League, Wilson, gave a speech.

“In a dramatic pose, feeling his pulse on his left hand with his right hand, Wilson concluded: ‘The pulse of the whole world beats in unison with this enterprise,’” wrote American historian Anatoly Utkin.

Beautiful speeches and gestures masked yet another redivision of the world: the former colonies of defeated Germany were hastily transformed into “mandate territories of the League of Nations” (read: new colonies distributed to the victorious countries).

Also left behind the scenes was the intervention against Russia, which at that time was being carried out by the founding powers of the league: the British and Japanese empires and the French Republic.

The US President's adviser and one of the ideologists of the League of Nations, Edward Mandel House (who was called "Wilson's Talleyrand") wrote back in 1917: "The rest of the world will live more peacefully if, instead of a huge Russia, there are four Russias in the world. One is Siberia, and the rest are the divided European part of the country."

Perhaps if the League of Nations had turned into a full-fledged global government, a collective "civilized world" and tried to deal with our country. In the end, the former Austria-Hungary was accepted "in parts", Weimar Germany was forgiven and accepted into the new global world.

But something went wrong with this “globalization 1.0” from the start.

HOW A LIGHT RAIN "WASHED AWAY" THE WORLD GOVERNMENT
Paradoxically, the country that actually “invented” the League of Nations never joined the club. The United States remained outside the League, along with Nepal, semi-independent Tibet, and the Kingdom of Nejd and Hejaz (the future Saudi Arabia).

The Senate opposed Wilson's plans, believing that US participation in the League of Nations could potentially limit the White House's permissiveness in international affairs. After all, the organization's charter envisaged intervention in a war if it began between members of the alliance.

But the senators' fears were exaggerated. The League of Nations was powerless to intervene in wars waged between the victorious powers.

In the early 1930s, the League failed to stop the aggression of one member country, Japan, against another, the Republic of China. Another "alarm bell" that affected the League's image was the invitation of an outside arbitrator, the United States, to resolve the conflict (however, the Americans did not help either).

In March 1933, when Manchuria was already firmly occupied by the Kwantung Army, the Council of the League issued “recommendations on the Manchurian question.” In response, Japan simply left the organization, and its Foreign Minister Yosuke Matsuoka (a future war criminal) declared from the Geneva tribune as a farewell: “In a few years, we will be understood by the world, as it understood Jesus of Nazareth… Japan’s mission is to lead the world spiritually and intellectually…”

In October 1935, another politician with messianic tendencies, Mussolini, started a war against a country — a fellow League member — Abyssinia (Ethiopia). The country’s legitimate ruler, Emperor Haile Selassie, testified from the rostrum how the Italians were using mustard gas and phosgene, banned by the League, to the fullest extent: “Special sprayers were installed on board the planes that could disperse a fine, deadly rain over vast areas.”

Haile Selassie concluded this historic speech with the words: “If it happens that a strong government… can destroy a weak people with impunity, then the hour will strike for that weak people to turn to the League of Nations… God and history will remember your judgment.”

In the end, Italy, with the help of tanks, bombers and chemical weapons, defeated the weak enemy and, having completed the task, voluntarily left (rather than was expelled) from the League in 1937. In response, the League refused to recognize Ethiopia as part of the new colony - Italian North-East Africa.

This marathon of impotence could have been stopped by the Soviet Union’s entry into the League of Nations.

HOW TO START A WORLD WAR WITH ONE SHOT
In the first half of the 1930s, two related processes were taking place in parallel: the growth of the international influence of the Soviet Union (the only country that, for obvious reasons, found itself outside the Great Depression) and a change in the West’s line of behavior – from an uncompromising struggle against Moscow Bolshevism and the Comintern to pragmatic interaction with the Soviets.

Such pragmatists included, for example, the second president of Czechoslovakia, Edvard Beneš, and the head of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Paul-Boncourt, one of the main lobbyists for strengthening the League of Nations at the expense of the USSR.

Moscow's line of conduct also changed. Stalin understood that the young socialist country needed to emerge from international isolation after the Civil War and become a full-fledged participant in the largest interstate organization.

One of the Soviet diplomats who understood Stalin’s line well was Maxim Litvinov, who in 1930 replaced Georgy Chicherin, a man from the “Leninist guard,” as People’s Commissar for Foreign Affairs.

If Chicherin believed that the stake should be placed on the “organizer of the international revolution of the proletariat” – the Comintern, then Litvinov was a supporter of realpolitik: a direct clash between the USSR and the West is disadvantageous for both sides – it is necessary to seek common ground.

Stalin himself, in an interview with the bourgeois press – the New York Times – said that the USSR was ready to help prevent war if the League’s efforts were directed toward that end.

In 1934, the aforementioned Louis Barthou became the new head of the French Foreign Ministry. He was an old acquaintance of People's Commissar Litvinov and an ardent supporter of not appeasement, but of containing the fascist regimes that were becoming more and more numerous in Europe. It was Barthou and Benes who "pushed through" the USSR's entry into the League of Nations and also advocated for our country's inclusion in the League Council.

According to their logic, only the joint efforts of Western democracies and the Soviet Union could stop Hitler, and the format for the international security system should have been a “rebooted” League.

But three weeks after the USSR joined the League of Nations, as mentioned above, Louis Barthou was shot in Marseilles along with the King of Yugoslavia Alexander I. Journalists compared this terrorist attack to the shot of Gavrilo Princip in 1914, which seemed an exaggeration - after all, the world war did not start in 1934.

But the vector of Western policy changed, which led to a world war.

"TO SAVE FUTURE GENERATIONS FROM DISASTERS"
As part of the policy of appeasing Hitler and directing his appetites to the east, Britain and France will calmly watch as the Fuhrer destroys all the fruits of the Versailles-Washington system - from the Rhineland demilitarized zone to an independent Austria.

Just four years after Barthou's assassination, in 1934, Britain and France would feed Hitler the only democracy in Eastern Europe, Czechoslovakia, led by President Beneš.

The collective security negotiations that Moscow conducted with London and Paris in 1939 were as fruitless and strange as the “phony war” of 1940. And, let us add, as fruitless as the collective security negotiations that Moscow conducted with the West in 2022.

At the same time, as Soviet intelligence knew very well, the “peacekeepers” Neville Chamberlain and Edouard Daladier were considering the possibility of starting a war against the Soviet Union, for which they planned to launch attacks from Finland and the Caucasus (declassified data was published on August 24, 2024 on the website of the Presidential Library).

It is not surprising that the USSR tried to ensure “individual” security by concluding the so-called Molotov - Ribbentrop Pact with Germany, dividing spheres of influence from the Arctic to the Black Sea.

The League of Nations, which never became a means of saving the world, remained a powerless extra all this time. However, it was enough to exclude the Soviet Union for the Soviet-Finnish War, the blame for which the main members of the League of Nations, of course, pinned on the USSR.

In the Soviet press, the League Council's decision of December 14, 1939 to exclude the USSR was called "shameful." The main initiators of this procedure were branded as "imperialist warmongers."

This rhetoric was entirely consistent with the views of the Soviet government, which had lost all faith in the ability of the League of Nations to fairly resolve world conflicts.

Almost a century later, it is clear that faith has also been lost in the similar abilities of the UN, which, according to its Charter, was supposed to “ save succeeding generations from the scourge of war, which twice in our lifetime has brought untold sorrow to mankind.” But this does not mean that the idea of creating a “collective deterrent,” which they tried to implement back in the mid-1930s, will remain a utopia.

Drone Strike On Arsenal Triggers Biggest Explosion On Russian Soil Of The War
More from regnum.ru

Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

13 civilians hospitalized in Tver region after drone attack

After the fall of the debris of a Ukrainian drone in the Tver region, 13 people were hospitalized in moderate condition. This was stated to journalists on September 18 by the assistant to the Minister of Health of Russia Alexey Kuznetsov.

“According to operational data, as a result of the incident in the Tver region, 13 people were hospitalized in moderate condition, their lives are not in danger, and assistance is being provided in full,” he said.

According to Kuznetsov, doctors are examining another 15 victims of the Ukrainian militants' drone attack. Doctors are on duty at temporary accommodation points, he added.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on the night of September 18, a fire started in the city of Toropets in the Tver region from falling UAV debris during the repulse of an attack by air defense forces. The regional governor, Igor Rudenya, decided to partially evacuate the population from the territory where work was being done to localize the fire, in order to ensure safety.

Later that day, Rudenya said that no one was killed or seriously injured as a result of the Ukrainian drone attack on Toropets. He specified that repair work would be carried out in the buildings damaged by the drone debris, both in social institutions and in the private sector.

On the afternoon of September 18, the head of the Tver region said that all of Toropets' infrastructure was working and residents could return to the city. According to him, buses would be taking everyone who wanted to return to their homes.

Drones Reach Missiles. Warehouse Attack in Russia

In the city of Toropets in the Tver region of Russia, an explosion and a strong fire occurred on the night of September 18.

SBU and GUR drones attacked a large warehouse of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry in Toropets, Tver Oblast, on the night of September 18. The warehouse contained missiles intended for Iskander operational-tactical missile systems, Tochka-U tactical missile systems, KABs, and artillery ammunition. After the UAVs arrived, an extremely powerful detonation began - an earthquake was even recorded in the region. Local authorities announced the evacuation of the population.

DRONE STRIKE
The Tver Region Governor Igor Rudenya reported a fire in Toropets at night. According to him, the fire broke out “as a result of the fall of UAV debris during the repulse of an attack by air defense forces.” He did not specify what object was attacked.

In recent months, when Ukrainian drones strike certain objects, Russian governors always state that the drone was shot down and that debris fell on the object—an oil depot, for example.

Russian Telegram channels, citing local residents, reported that the characteristic sound of a drone was heard in Toropets, followed by an explosion. Later, the Tver regional government reported that the authorities had decided to partially evacuate the population “from the territory where air defense is operating and the fire is being localized.”

LARGE WAREHOUSE
In Toropets there is an arsenal for the complex storage of ammunition, missiles and explosives. This is official information, Russian state media have written about the missile arsenal more than once.

Russian authorities have not reported an explosion at the arsenal. Construction of the complex storage arsenal in Toropets was completed several years ago, according to official reports.

The arsenal includes cold and heated rooms, electrical substations, treatment facilities, water and fuel storage tanks, and more than 100 fire ponds.

The Telegram channel Astra claimed that in May and July drones had already attacked a military unit in the city of Toropets, resulting in explosions and fires.

The distance from the Ukrainian border to the 107th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate in Toropets is less than 500 km. The Ukrainian strike drone Lyuty, for example, is capable of flying this distance in three hours, and it has already overcome Russian air defense systems more than once.

A VERY STRONG EXPLOSION
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky did not directly confirm the strike on Toropets, but thanked the Ukrainian military for their accuracy and range.

"First of all, I want to thank our soldiers who ensure our Ukrainian long-range capabilities. There was a very important result last night on Russian territory, it is precisely such things that weaken the enemy," Zelensky said. "I thank everyone involved. Such precision that it is inspiring. Our special services: the Security Service, the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Special Operations Forces - thank you!"

The blast was so powerful that the Norwegian earthquake and explosion monitoring group NORSAR reported that its experts recorded at least 17 “seismic events,” or tremors, in the area of the city of Toropets in the Tver region.

The most powerful signal had a magnitude of 2.5, write Norwegian experts.

The report does not mention the causes of these seismic events; NORSAR experts continue to study them.

Border patrol faces subpoena threat for allegedly hiding Harris' role as border czar
[JustTheNews] Comer sent a letter to Troy Miller, the acting commissioner for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, requesting documents and communications regarding Harris' role in working with CBP to address the border crisis.

House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., threatened Tuesday to subpoena the head of border patrol, saying he has not received answers when asked about Vice President Kamala Harris' role as border czar.

Comer sent a letter to Troy Miller, the acting commissioner for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, requesting documents and communications regarding Harris' role in working with CBP to address the border crisis.

"The deadline to produce has passed, and CBP has failed to provide the Committee with any responsive documents, communications, or even a timeline for when CBP intends to comply with the request," the letter said.

CBP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

"If CBP continues to withhold documents and communications on this matter, the Committee will consider alternative measures to obtain this information, including through the compulsory process," Comer said in the letter.

Harris has tried to distance herself from her role in handling the border issue for President Joe Biden, in part because the border has been in crisis throughout the administration with millions of illegal immigrants pouring into the U.S. in just under four years.

Several high-profile crimes committed by illegal immigrants have helped push the issue to the forefront as the number of migrants coming into the U.S. under the Biden administration alone has surpassed the total population of most U.S. states.

Now, lawmakers want answers about what exactly Harris did, or didn't do, to handle the border crisis.

"It is important the Committee and the American people understand Vice President Harris's role as the border czar in the ongoing border crisis," the letter said. "The mass illegal entry and release of illegal aliens into the United States under the Biden-Harris Administration has contributed to murders, sexual assaults, and serious bodily injuries committed against numerous Americans at the hands of illegal aliens. These crimes should have never happened."

Small Town Alabama Residents Silenced For Questioning Sudden Flood Of Haitian Migrants
[ZeroHedge] This week U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) released its latest statistics showing at least 530,000 migrants flew into the U.S. and were paroled into the country as part of the Biden administration’s controversial mass parole program for those migrating from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela (the CHNV program). The program essentially expedites the transfer of migrants from these countries with minimal vetting under refugee laws and allows them to stay in the US for at least two years with a work visa.

The CBP also notes that at least 800,000 more migrants have applied for the program at US ports of entry, meaning they are likely already in the country. The numbers are not counted as illegal border crossings. The CBP has warned that once the two-year work period ends they do not have the manpower to track down those migrants that refuse to leave voluntarily.

Concerns over this immigration agenda are being raised after presidential candidate Donald Trump highlighted the flood of 20,000 Haitians into Springfield, Ohio (a city of only 60,000 people) during his recent debate with Kamala Harris. Reports are mounting and suggest this issue is not limited to Ohio; small towns across the US are being inundated with third-world immigrants. Native-born residents feel powerless as their communities are trampled by decisions made at the federal level.

One such town is Sylacauga in Alabama with a tiny population of 12,236 people southeast of Birmingham. Reports indicate at least 2000 Haitian migrants have been dumped into the area with little or no communication with the locals.

Sylacauga city council member Laura Barlow Heath says she's worried Sylacauga will become the next Springfield. She criticized her colleagues after they abruptly shut down a council meeting when residents raised concerns over the overwhelming influx of migrants and she worries 'civil unrest' may be the result.

Citizens continued to approach council members after the meeting, and many of the exchanges became heated.

Mayor Jim Heigl confirms that the immigrants were brought in "legally" for employment. He said they have been "model citizens," and there are no issues with the current number of immigrants living in the city. However, this is the same rhetoric from the leadership in Springfield, Ohio, and reports from native residents conflict dramatically with the claims made by local politicians. They say crime is on the rise, and of course, pets are disappearing.

Evidence shows that animal abuse is indeed an issue. After the media claimed the accusations have been "debunked", police reports have been exposed and confirmed recordings of migrants in Ohio cooking cats have surfaced. A video of has surfaced of Springfield city officials from March of this year discussing migrants doing "horrible things to domesticated animals" while council members argued that the events are not confirmed.

NEW: African migrants in Dayton, Ohio caught grilling cats.

The footage was obtained by @realchrisrufo who interviewed the man who took the video.

“It was some Africans that stay right next door. This African dude next door had the damn cat on the grill”https://t.co/YmmV79TKOn

— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) September 14, 2024
Now we have the Springfield City Manager acknowledging on video that they’ve heard of complaints of domestic animals being eaten back in March.

We also have a call report showing this.

Why would they lie about there not being complaints?

Unbelievable. pic.twitter.com/ejktkvxIRo

— Dustin Grage (@GrageDustin) September 17, 2024
SHOCKING report from Rebel News’ @TheMenzoid, who visited Springfield, Ohio, reveals local residents sharing their stories of Haitian migrants killing pets and causing chaos in their city.

“They did kill my daughter's cat.”

“My neighbor’s neighbor went over to his house crying… pic.twitter.com/5qBOsklaIe

— I Meme Therefore I Am 🇺🇸 (@ImMeme0) September 13, 2024

Democrats assert that these communities have no say in the process of immigration and that however many foreigners arrive and where they come from is none of their business. But maybe it should be their business. Laura Heath of Sylacauga gets to the root of the problem:

“When is enough enough? When do they stop coming in? How many are there going to be? There’s no answers. We have none. The unknown and uncertainty is scary. We have 12,236 people in our community, and we just do not have the adequate resources to handle an influx of migrants. It’s going to take away from resources that are already struggling here.”

It should be noted that many of these migrants have been suspiciously relocated to deep red conservative districts and, as we recently witnessed in Oregon, some states are "accidentally" giving migrants voter status when they get their state IDs and drivers licenses.

Employers are incentivized to hire migrants because of lower wages, but they can also get tax subsidies for every refugee under a lesser known provision of the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC). In other words, companies are getting extra-cheap labor the more they add refugees to the payroll. This is why we often see corporate CEOs in places like Springfield, OH avidly defending mass immigration and denying any problems exist.

Bear sneaks in Californian cabin, snacks on bottle of jelly
[GEO.TV] A grizzly bear has been caught on video when it broke into a cabin in Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, and snacked on a bottle of jelly.

The ''burglar bear'' was recorded through a security camera and the video was later shared by the cabin owner, Scott Cloutier.

The bear can be seen calmly wandering the kitchen of the South Lake Tahoe cabin owned by Cloutier, clearly in search of something to eat.
Bears get the munches too!
As the bear continues its antics in the video, a cabinet with its door swung open can be seen in the background.

Possibly, the bear opened the cabinet in search of food and left the door open.

Intermittently in the video, the bear comes up for a peak and goes back down again to continue eating its meal, making its thievery much more appealing.

Interestingly, it is unclear how the sneaky bear entered the cabin as the security camera was installed in the kitchen where it caught the bear raiding the fridge.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says bears have begun to stock up on food for their hibernation period, which usually begins in October.

Yellowstone Bear World reports different species of bears hibernate for different amounts of time depending on their climate. Black bears can hibernate for up to seven and a half months without consuming water and food or defecating.

As for grizzly bears, they usually hibernate between five to seven months a year and Mexican Black Bears do not hibernate at all, even if they do hibernate, it only lasts for a few weeks of the year due to their warmer habitat, the process is not necessary for them.

Alaskan brown bears can hibernate for a period of five to eight months due to their colder climate.

Zakharova stated that a dictatorship has already arrived in the US
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Dictatorship has already arrived in the United States, the question is whether it will be destructive or whether the country will be returned to normal. This was stated to journalists on September 18 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, on the sidelines of the Eurasian Women's Forum.

She recalled the words of American businessman Elon Musk that if the elections in the United States are held “with a different result than this one,” then a dictatorship will come to the country.

"That's his point of view. In my opinion, the dictatorship [in the US] has already arrived, the question is whether it will be an absolutely destructive story for the US or whether they will still try to fight for a return to normality," she said.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on September 17, Musk said that the United States would “ slide into tyranny ” if the country’s former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump were to lose.

On September 2, Musk called the US Democratic Party "the party of criminals." He noted that the Democratic Party is too soft on criminals. According to him, this situation is explained by the fact that this category of citizens, as a rule, votes for representatives of the Democrats, and therefore they "do not want to offend their customers."

Musk also said he was looking forward to being appointed to Trump's team, saying the current US government has too much unnecessary spending and regulation that needs to be "gotten rid of as soon as possible."

On August 20, Trump said that he was considering Musk as an employee of the American administration if he won the US presidential election. According to the former head of the White House, he is ready to offer the entrepreneur a post of adviser or member of the cabinet of the head of his administration, if he is not against it.

Former CIA officer drugged, sexually assaulted dozens of women in multiple countries, gets 30 years in prison
[FoxNews] Brian Jeffrey Raymond, 48, photographed and video recorded more than two dozen nude and partially nude women without their consent.

A veteran Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer who used his position to drug and sexually assault more than two dozen women while posted around the world was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison on Wednesday.

The sentence was handed down to Brian Jeffrey Raymond, 48, a La Mesa, California, resident, following an emotional hearing in which his victims described being deceived by a man they said appeared kind, educated and part of an agency "that is supposed to protect the world from evil."

"It's safe to say he's a sexual predator," U.S. Senior Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said before imposing the full sentence prosecutors had requested. "You are going to have a period of time to think about this."

In addition to prison time, Raymond was ordered to pay $260,000 in restitution to his victims. Fox News Digital has reached out to the CIA.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves said Raymond's sentence ensures that he "will be properly marked as a sex offender for life, and he will spend a substantial portion of the rest of his life behind bars."

The assaults date back to 2006 and occurred in Mexico, Peru and other countries, prosecutors said. They all followed the same pattern.

Raymond would lure women he met on Tinder and other dating apps to his government-leased apartment in Mexico City, among other locations, and drug them while serving wine and snacks. Once unconscious, he posed with their naked bodies before photographing and assaulting them. He opened their eyelids at times and stuck his fingers in their mouths, prosecutors said.

In an effort to cover his tracks, Raymond tried to delete the images and videos depicting the women after learning he was being investigated.

About a dozen of Raymond’s victims, who were identified only by numbers in court, recounted how he changed their lives. Some said they only learned what happened to them after the FBI showed them the photos of being assaulted while unconscious.

Tucson Trump Rally Sparks Backlash, Mysterious Illness
See also here.
[Arizona Globe] Rally goers met with hateful rhetoric and unexplained chemical burns to eyes

Last week, former President Donald Trump held his first post-debate rally in Tucson, a predominantly left-leaning city. The event took place at the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall, drawing attention to Trump’s new policy announcement and the controversy surrounding the rally before and after.

Before the rally, Pima County Supervisor Adelita Grijalva sparked backlash by posting a profane sign on social media. The sign, which read "F you MAGA, no more Orange" in Spanish, was captioned, "Welcome to Tucson." At a subsequent Pima County Board of Supervisors meeting, constituents demanded an apology from Grijalva. However, she stood by her actions, stating, "I’ll acknowledge wrongdoing when Trump apologizes for the racist, misogynistic, sexist, inflammatory comments he’s made about women, people of color, LGBTQ..."

Grijalva wasn’t the only notable Tucson figure to oppose the rally. Music legend Linda Ronstadt, whose name adorns the venue, also disapproved. Taking to social media, Ronstadt criticized Trump for holding the event at a building associated with her legacy, stating her deep opposition to his policies.

While the rally drew a large and enthusiastic crowd, it ended with an unexpected turn of events. Approximately 20 attendees, primarily members of the "Latinos for Trump" group who had been onstage, reported becoming ill with mysterious symptoms shortly after the rally concluded. All those who reported falling ill were seated on the side of the stage where Trump made his entrance before approaching the podium.

Pastor Eli Moreno, who opened the rally with prayer, and his wife, Francesca Moreno, were among those affected. Pastor Moreno said that he experienced mild discomfort, but his wife’s symptoms were far more severe. On their drive home, Mrs. Moreno’s nose began to run, her vision blurred, and her face swelled up. They stopped at a Walgreens and encountered another rallygoer with similar symptoms. Mrs. Moreno stated that emergency room doctors flushed her eyes earlier and referred her to an ophthalmologist. Five days later, she was just beginning to feel better.

Mayra Rodriguez, another attendee, also fell ill 30 minutes after leaving the rally, experiencing burning eyes and a severe headache. By the time she arrived at the emergency room, she could no longer open her eyes. After performing a dye test, the doctor informed her that she had suffered a chemical burn. Days later, she continued suffering from blurry vision and light sensitivity.

Col. Richard Kemp: 'Hard to think of more precise, discriminating method of attack'
[IsraelNationalNews] Colonel Richard Kemp, the former commander of the British military forces in Afghanistan, spoke to Israel National News - Arutz Sheva about the explosion of pagers and communication devices used by the Hezbollah terrorist organization on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Col. Kemp cautioned that the New York Times was premature in its claim that the detonation of the pagers "was a tactical success that had no clear strategic impact."
Who cares that NYT "thinks"?
He stated, "We do not know whether this attack will have strategic impact, perhaps as part of a larger plan that has not yet unfolded. However that might or might not work out, this operation against Hezbollah will have had a major effect in its own right. First, it will have done immense damage to the terrorist organization, taking a large number of its fighters and leaders out in one go. Plus of course, severely undermining their communications capability."

"Second, it will have intimidated Hezbollah, potentially frightening some members into leaving the group or even scare off new recruits from joining. The psychological impact will be enormous, with every Hezbollah terrorist now fearing that almost everything he owns or touches, including cars, guns, laptops, radios, and other electrical items, could potentially be weaponized against them. This is not what Hezbollah terrorists signed up for. Wide-scale and severe maiming and death by remote control is far removed from the supposed glory of battlefield martyrdom they were promised," he added. "Potentially even, this move could contribute to any future Hezbollah decision on whether or not to pull back from immediate conflict with Israel, not least because it is clear the extent that their organization has been comprehensively penetrated by Israeli intelligence."

"Third, it has humiliated Hezbollah, a terrorist organization that struts its power on the world stage, presenting itself as one of the strongest armies in the Middle East. While trying to conceal its communications from Israel, that very activity has been turned against it in spectacular style. The resulting mockery that has already greeted Hizballah in the region will add to the terrorist group’s demoralization.

He noted that, "Beyond Hezbollah, this operation will also spread fear among Israel’s other enemies including Iran and Syria. They will be terrified that Israel’s long arm will also reach into their own intelligence, terrorist and military apparatus."

Col. Kemp praised the use of the pagers as an extraordinarily precise tactic that limits civilian casualties to an unprecedented degree. "It’s hard to think of a more precise and discriminating method of attack than detonating pagers known to be specifically assigned to individual terrorists, using devices that limit the potential for collateral damage. I doubt any widespread military attack in history in civilian areas has ever been so precisely targeted."

"The targets of the attack were terrorist fighters who are involved, directly or indirectly, in active combat operations against Israel including rocket and drone attacks every day for almost a year. Under international law that makes them legitimate and lawful targets for attack as Israel seeks to defend its citizens from violent aggression," he said.

When asked what Israel could or should do to take advantage of the damage this incident has caused Hezbollah, Col. Kemp responded, "This may be part of a wider military plan and only the Israeli government is in a position to judge what follow-up action now needs to take place. Clearly, Hezbollah is now at an unexpected low point and its weakness is ripe for exploitation."

A second incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when multiple explosions were reported in the Dahieh area of Beirut, Lebanon, killing at least five people and injuring approximately 500.

Wednesday's incident appears to involve other kinds of communication devices such as walkie-talkies and radios and not just pagers as the original incident on Tuesday had.
UAV controllers are communication devices.

…. growing trove of information about both known and previously unknown Hezbollah militants, as well as their supporters, partners, friends, family members, colleagues, workplaces, vehicles, and homes.

They just created an incredibly dense and *up-to-date* social graph of an entire terrorist network, across Lebanon as well as neighboring countries. It is incredible what they just did.

Is This Hate Speech?
[ZeroHedge] An X Post Goes Viral, Then Gets A Hate Speech Label

Earlier this week, University of Chicago student Daniel Schmidt's post about race and crime garnered 1.2 million views on X, before its visibility was limited with a hate speech label.

In the past three years:

- Two students at my college have been murdered by black people.
- Dozens of students at my college have been mugged by black people.

I say this and get flagged for hate speech.@ElonMusk, can we please have an honest conversation about this? pic.twitter.com/OC8U7zT9Bt

Because of that limited visibility, I can't embed his original post here, but I have posted the text of it below. Before we get to it, my post below includes the video in his original post, which was of a local news report interviewing another University of Chicago student, who managed to remove the magazine from a mugger's gun during an attack near the school.

RACE AND CRIME IN CHICAGO
At my college, the University of Chicago, it’s inevitable that black people will mug students at gunpoint this school year—because it happens every year. Last year more than a dozen students were mugged. One student had a gun pointed at her head while walking on campus at 3:00 PM. You may have seen the video below back in April.

I’m starting my senior year in a few days. When I began college I tried to ignore all of this... I just wanted to be a finance bro... But then an Asian student was killed by a black person one month into my freshman year and it dawned on me: Is the modern American Dream just trying to live far away from black people? That’s why investment bankers work 18-hour days? That’s the end game? That’s it?

I started thinking I shouldn’t have gone to college in Chicago. I really chose this place over Princeton, New Jersey...

But lately I’ve started asking myself: Why do I have to accept the destruction of a great institution? Why do I have to surrender it to people who want me dead? Fuck them.

John D. Rockefeller founded the University of Chicago in 1890. Since then it has produced 99 Nobel Prizes, a remarkable achievement given the school is relatively new. It’s also one of the only colleges today that sincerely protects free speech (why I can make this post without getting expelled). It’s undoubtedly the only top university that cowards haven’t co-opted. I love it dearly.

Yet nowhere else on Earth will you find such an astonishing IQ contrast within a five-minute walk. The average SAT score of a student at UChicago is 1545, the highest of any university in the country. In the past three years, two of those students have been murdered, and dozens have been mugged, by thugs whose IQs are too low to understand why killing someone is wrong. They act solely on impulse. They think it’s fun. That’s all it is.

What will happen as black crime invariably gets even worse? Will the kind of student needed to continue UChicago’s legacy of academic excellence even want to attend college in Chicago? As things stand, this is an institution headed toward its deathbed, and that makes me very sad.

I’m so tired of this. I want to ride a subway without worrying a black person will shoot me. I want to go on a date with a girl at night without worrying a black person will shoot us. I want my future children to be able to live in cities without worrying a black person will shoot them.

I was born in 2003—you cannot get me to genuinely care about slavery, or redlining, or any other past event that is supposed to force me into accepting third-world conditions as the norm for American cities. It seems the only solution is the most obvious: over-police and over-incarcerate. Bring in the National Guard. Spend $$$ on maximum police surveillance. Do whatever is necessary to make these cities safe again. Each day passed is another victim.

The problem, of course, is that we cannot arrive at that solution right now because of the fear of being called racist. I’ve seen this firsthand.

At UChicago, a left-wing group called CareNotCops routinely bullies students and professors alike from speaking out by throwing around that word. When I was a freshman and a black person murdered an Asian student, hundreds of international students wanted to organize a protest to demand more police. They felt these criminals targeted them the most. In response, CareNotCops immediately called them racist, and the demands were dropped.

This led me to realize that “racist” is a branding weaponized by the most spiteful in society to overwhelm good-hearted people with fear and forbid a brighter future. Nothing has held back progress more than the anxiety of that label. Only once we end our enslavement to that meaningless word can lives be saved.

Boeing to temporarily furlough large number of US executives
[YahooFinance] Boeing said on Wednesday it will temporarily furlough tens of thousands of employees after about 30,000 machinists went on strike on Friday, halting production of its best-selling 737 MAX and other airplanes.

"We are initiating temporary furloughs over the coming days that will impact a large number of US-based executives, managers and employees," CEO Kelly Ortberg said in an email to employees. "We are planning for selected employees to take one week of furlough every four weeks on a rolling basis for the duration of the strike."

The strike, Boeing's first since 2008, adds to a tumultuous year for the planemaker which began when a door panel blew off a new 737 MAX jet in mid-air in January.

Ortberg also said he and other Boeing leaders "will take a commensurate pay reduction for the duration of the strike."

Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers held two days of discussions in the presence of federal mediators. The union, which said on Tuesday it was frustrated with the first day of mediation, said late on Wednesday it had concluded another day of talks with "no meaningful progress."

"While we remain open to further discussions, whether directly or through mediation, currently, there are no additional dates scheduled," the union said. "We are fully committed to fighting for the contract our members deserve."

Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the IAM statement.

The extensive furloughs show Ortberg is preparing the company to weather a prolonged strike that is not likely to be easily resolved given the anger among rank-and-file workers.

A protracted labor battle could cost Boeing several billion dollars, further straining finances and threatening its credit rating, analysts said.

"It's unlikely that the cuts will fully offset the costs of a prolonged strike," said Ben Tsocanos, aerospace director at S&P Global Ratings.

The union has been pushing for a 40% raise over four years in its first full contract negotiations with Boeing in 16 years, well above the planemaker's offer of 25%, which was resoundingly rejected.

#1  "Furloughed" is so much more dignified and executive than "laid off".

The workers are on strike so they are not making bad planes. The executives are being furloughed so they are not making bad decisions. All in all, this should have a net positive effect on Boeing's stock price.

Oregon Tribes Sue to Delay Offshore Wind Auction
[Epoch Times] Officials from the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians have filed a lawsuit to delay the U.S. government’s first-ever wind energy auction for the Oregon coast, currently scheduled for Oct. 15.

Filed on Sept. 13, the lawsuit challenges the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s (BOEM) environmental assessment and decision to proceed with the development of two offshore wind energy areas (WEAs). The WEAs would encompass approximately 195,000 acres between 18 and 32 miles offshore from the coastal communities of Coos Bay and Brookings.

Published on Aug. 13, the environmental assessment concluded that issuing lease sales will have "no significant impacts to people or the environment," according to a statement from BOEM.

In a Sept. 16 press statement, Tribal Council Chair Brad Kneaper said that BOEM’s analysis narrowly focused on the impacts of the lease sale and site surveys, while "turning a blind eye" to the inevitable impacts that construction and operation of private wind energy facilities will have on coastal resources, the tribe, commercial fisheries, and other residents.

The tribe says that the Oregon WEAs are within its ancestral territory, contain critical fish and marine wildlife habitat, offer viewsheds of significant cultural and historic significance, and are important for commercial fishing.

Its goal is to delay the lease sale and force the federal agency to conduct a thorough environmental impact statement that "honestly looks at the impact wind energy would have on the Oregon Coast," attorney Rick Eichstaedt, who is representing the tribe, told The Epoch Times.

Peskov denies US and Ukraine opening second front against Russia in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Russian Presidential Administration has not seen any reports about the start of joint preparations by the United States and Ukraine to open a second front in Syria against Russia. This was stated at a briefing on September 18 by the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov.

"I have not seen such reports. I have no information on this issue, so I cannot say anything specific about it," the Kremlin spokesman said in response to a question on the matter.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on September 17, a source reported that Kiev is actively training terrorists from the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) in new drone production technologies. According to him, this work is being carried out in coordination with the United States in order to open a new front against the Russian army in Syria in the coming months.

On September 10, the Turkish newspaper Aydinlik wrote that Ukraine, with the support of the United States, held talks with representatives of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Syria to involve militants in operations against Russia. It was noted that the delegation of the Kiev regime called on the terrorists to release radical Chechen and Georgian militants from prison, for which it promised the radicals 75 drones.

Later that day, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Kiev regime was maintaining contacts with terrorists, using them to commit terrorist attacks against Russians. According to her, Kiev had already become a new international terrorist group, backed by the United States and Britain.

FSB Stops Activities of Female Islamist Cell in Tatarstan
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] In Tatarstan, security forces stopped the activities of a female cell of an international terrorist organization that was recruiting Russians into its ranks. This was reported on September 18 by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB of Russia.

“The territorial structure’s functionaries carried out targeted work to spread terrorist ideology on the territory of our country, based on the doctrine of creating a so-called global caliphate,” the FSB noted.

Recruitment of Russian citizens was carried out at cell meetings using covert measures

During the searches, FSB officers discovered a significant amount of extremist literature banned in Russia, communications equipment, and electronic storage devices used to conduct terrorist activities.

The investigative unit of the UFSB for the republic has opened a criminal case. Investigative actions and operational-search activities are continuing.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on September 17, the UFSB for Moscow and the Moscow Region reported the detention in the capital of a man who holds radical religious views and is suspected of financing terrorism. A criminal case was opened against the detainee under Part 1.1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Assistance to terrorist activity"). The defendant was arrested.

On September 16, a resident of Nizhny Novgorod was arrested for cooperation with the terrorist group "Legion "Freedom of Russia" (a terrorist organization whose activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation). The man, on his own initiative, established contacts with the prohibited structure and carried out several tasks, during one of which he was detained by FSB officers.

Pay More and Fight. Zelensky and the IMF Are Finishing Off Ukrainians
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Kirill Velesov

[REGNUM] On the morning of September 18, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a bill to increase the state budget for 2024. The new version adds 500 billion hryvnias to finance the army, which was lacking because a year ago the authors of the state budget expected the end of hostilities in the summer of 2024.

Now the main financial document of Ukraine contains record expenditures on the army - 3.73 trillion hryvnia. At the same time, in order to increase the state budget, the Rada deputies first had to vote for an increase in taxes, which they really did not want to do. But the IMF, which has long and firmly hooked Ukraine on the credit needle, really wanted to.

The necessary votes were collected only on the second attempt: on September 17, 241 deputies voted “for” with the minimum required being 226.

On September 3, the bill was three votes short. Then, Danylo Getmantsev, a deputy from the Servant of the People faction, accused his colleagues who did not vote of saying that "the probability of underfunding the army has increased exponentially" and that they "are ready to finance someone else's army instead of their own."

The increase in military spending was placed on the Ukrainian people. In particular, the bill stipulates an increase in military tax from 1.5% to 5% and an increase in taxes for individual entrepreneurs. In addition, advance payments at gas stations, monthly income tax reporting (for "economic armor" from the army), as well as the most controversial point - 50% tax on bank profits in 2024 are introduced. The head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshny, has already spoken out on the latter topic.

"The National Bank of Ukraine considers another increase in the bank profit tax to 50% to be too risky and intends to announce a package of decisions by the end of the week that will ensure that banks can cover the budget deficit by purchasing domestic government bonds, avoiding emission," he said.

In turn, Ukrainian economist Oleksiy Kushch writes that thanks to the tax on "excess profits of banks," Ukraine's defense sector will receive an additional almost 25 billion hryvnia by the end of the year. Roughly the same amount will be brought in by increasing taxes for individual entrepreneurs and the military tax.

Kushch also proposes to introduce a progressive income tax for individuals with high incomes. The economist reminds: according to the analysis of the National Bank of Ukraine, the number of rich people in Ukraine has increased from 5% to 8% since 2022.

"It's much easier to rip off taxes from ordinary citizens when paying salaries, especially from public sector employees. No one will even peep about some 5%. A little from each person gives the rich a Brioni shirt, " Kushch noted.

The current tax increase will hit the hired workers the hardest, who are already in tough "fight or work" conditions, says Yuriy Gaidai, senior economist at the Ukrainian Center for Economic Strategy. He also warns that taxes will continue to rise. This was indirectly confirmed by Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak, who reported that the IMF program for 2025 includes a provision: if the state budget of Ukraine is significantly changed again, taxes may be raised, including the VAT rate.

Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko does not hide the fact that the “supplemented” draft state budget was developed by relevant departments in close cooperation with the International Monetary Fund. Back in July, Marchenko stated that Ukraine needed “additional financial guarantees” from the IMF, because the war will continue in 2025, and we need to have a buffer.

The words of the head of the Ministry of Finance were later confirmed by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. In addition, according to him, the draft budget for 2025 will include military expenditures no less than in 2024. Accordingly, the Kiev regime plans to fight for the entire next year.

At the same time, in addition to the lack of money for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, energy and "social issues", Ukraine has another serious problem, which the Ministry of Finance reported in detail in a report published on September 17. Ukraine's total debt to the IMF at the moment is $13.85 billion. In addition, from 2024 to 2028, Kyiv must pay the Fund $1.6 billion - and this is not interest on previously taken loans, but "established surcharges". Simply put, fines for the most indebted countries.

Ukraine does not want to pay, which the IMF openly hinted at by inserting extensive quotes from a speech by Hung K. Tran, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council's Center for Geoeconomics (an organization recognized as undesirable in the Russian Federation), into the Finance Ministry's report. He claims that "fines" for poor countries have become the IMF's main source of income. Dozens of debtor countries must pay not only interest on loans, but also established surcharges.

"This unfavorable state of affairs is the result of the IMF's policy of collecting additional fees from countries that exceed limits on the amount or duration of their borrowing from the Fund.

Imposing fines on war-torn Ukraine or, for example, Pakistan, a lower-middle-income country where floods two years ago inundated a third of its territory, seems at odds with the IMF's mission: maintaining stability in the global financial system.

(…) Asking the poorest countries to finance the global public goods provided by the Fund is wrong, especially at a time when countries must step up investment to achieve the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and their nationally determined contributions under the Paris Climate Agreement,” the Treasury said in a statement.

The document also states that debtors will be placed in “perpetual dependence,” and the IMF will automatically become a privileged creditor.

The main problem is the additional fees that the poorest countries cannot pay off and are therefore forced to borrow again and again from the IMF due to rising prices, unstable currencies, extreme weather conditions and war.

As an obvious victim of the IMF, the Ukrainian Finance Ministry recalls the Prime Minister of Barbados, Mia Amor Mottley, who called on the IMF to reform the additional charges.

If the Fund cannot simply waive the surcharges, it could treat the surcharges as basic loan payments, which would significantly help poor countries, the report's authors advise the IMF.

"The IMF's finances are sound, but the finances of countries like Pakistan and Ukraine are not. Forcing countries to pay onerous premiums only increases their debt burden. Not the best way to protect the global economy or finance an institution that is responsible for global financial stability," the author of the report cries out from the heart.

Will the IMF hear him? Even if we assume that they will, no one will cancel the “established surcharges”: why would the Fund lose a credit slave? After all, the remaining Ukrainian resources can be taken away for the debts – for example, lands with minerals located in them.

It turns out that the IMF is the winner. In addition, Volodymyr Zelensky and his entourage, who hold on to power only due to the war, are obviously happy: it has already been reported that the 2025 budget draft does not provide for election expenses.

And all this is against the backdrop of the silent approval of the West, which is using Ukraine as an anti-Russian battering ram. Only the Ukrainian people will pay for all this.

Ukrainian General Staff reports battles in 12 directions
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding back Russian offensive in eastern and southern Ukraine.

The hottest battles are currently in the Kurakhovsky and Pokrovsky directions, where more than 40 enemy attacks have been repelled since the beginning of the day.

Since the beginning of the current day, 103 combat clashes have occurred on the front in 12 directions. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in a report on Wednesday, September 18.

Thus, in the Kharkov direction, the enemy is trying to storm the positions of Ukrainian units in the Volchansk area.

In the Kupyansk direction, the enemy attacked nine times in the areas of Sinkovka, Kruglyakovka and Stelmakhovka. Two combat clashes are still ongoing.

In the Liman direction, the invaders carried out seven assaults during the day near Druzhelyubovka, Cherneshchyna, Nevsky and Makeyevka. Two combat clashes continue.

In the Seversky direction, Russian troops are trying to advance in the Verkhnekamensk area. The soldiers repelled one assault, another clash is ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk direction, attacks near Chasy Yara and Stupochki were repelled.

In the Toretsk direction, the enemy attempted seven times to penetrate the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ defenses in the areas of the populated areas of Dachnoye, Shcherbinovka, Nelipovka and New York.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian invaders made 24 attempts to push back our defenders in the areas of Novoaleksandrovka, Novotoretsk, Grodovka, Novogrodovka, Mikhaylovka and Krasny Yar. The defense forces repelled 21 enemy attacks, three combat clashes are still ongoing.

In the Kurakhovsky direction, enemy troops attacked 26 times in the direction of the settlements of Tsukurino, Ukrainsk, Georgievka, Dalneye and Konstantinovka. Fighting is currently ongoing at three locations.

In the Vremevsky direction, there were five enemy attacks near Katerinovka and Bogoyavlenka. Three battles have not yet ended.

In the Gulyai-Polye direction, Russian invaders unsuccessfully attacked in the Gulyai-Polye area.

In the Orekhov direction, the enemy has stormed the Malaya Tokmachka and Novodanilovka areas four times. One combat clash is still ongoing.

In the Dnieper direction, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked our defenders four times.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are also conducting an operation in the Kursk region . There, the enemy's aviation continues to raze their own villages and towns to the ground. Since the beginning of the day, Russian aircraft have carried out 12 strikes with 16 UABs on their own territory.

Let us recall that in the course of 24 hours on September 17 , more than 1,100 Russian invaders were "minused" at the front . The total number of Russian losses since the beginning of the war is approaching 640 thousand people.

Munchausen's War: How Weak Diplomats Deprived Russia of Access to the Sea
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Dmitry Gubin

[REGNUM] September 18 marks 285 years since the signing of the Belgrade Peace Treaty. It ended the fifth Russo-Turkish War, the campaign of 1735–1739. This war, fought during the time of Empress Anna Ioannovna, which could have been one of the most striking episodes of Russia's advance to the south – as striking as the later campaigns of Rumyantsev, Potemkin and Suvorov – has now fallen out of current historical memory.

Yes, a trace of that war remained in the book, although not a domestic one, although popular in Russia. The events of the chapter "The Adventures of Munchausen", in which the baron flies on a cannonball and rides half a horse, take place precisely during the Turkish campaign.

Such a Brunswick officer - Karl Friedrich Hieronymus von Munchausen - was indeed in Russian service, and his heroism during the storming of the Bendery fortress is documented. But they, of course, cannot be compared with the fantasies of the author of "Adventures" Rudolf Erich Raspe.

But the victorious campaigns of our ancestors under the command of Russified foreigners - Field Marshals Burkhard Munnich and Peter Lassi - are remembered much less often than they deserve.

But Ochakov, and Bender, and Khotin, and the capital of the Crimean khans, Bakhchisarai, were first taken by the Russians precisely then, under Anna Ioannovna.

Our ancestors entered the capital of the Moldavian Principality - Iasi and won a brilliant victory over the Turks and Tatars in the battle of Stavuchany, where the Russian troops were commanded by Minikh, and the enemy troops by Ilyas Kolchak Pasha, a distant ancestor of the famous admiral.

In what way was this "lost" war unsuccessful for Russia? In that the Petersburg diplomats turned out to be much weaker than the military.

WHY DID THE WAR START?
Peter I's niece Anna Ioannovna, or rather her court, had an ambitious task - to continue the work of the great sovereign in advancing the Russian borders from the outskirts of the Wild Field to the Black Sea coast.

The reason for the war with the Ottomans and their vassal, the Crimean Khanate, was the increasing raids of the Tatars on the lands of Little Russia and Slobozhanshchina.

In addition, the Turkish Sultan Mahmud, who had recently taken power, declared himself the protector of the Muslims of the North Caucasus. In practice, this meant that the Kabardian, Chechen and Dagestani lands could come under the rule of the Crimean Khan.

Khan Kaplan-Girey himself, with his army, “marched” across the Caucasus from Kabarda to Dagestan in 1735, brazenly violating the 1724 treaty on the delimitation of spheres of influence in the region between the Russian and Ottoman empires.

The Turkish-Tatar raid also affected the possessions of the Persian Shah, who was our ally at the time. War became inevitable, especially since Austria and Persia promised support.

According to contemporaries and historians, the Turks were incited against Russia by the then hegemon of Europe – France, where Louis XV the Beloved ruled. The great European War of the Polish Succession had just ended in 1735 – and in it the coalition for which France “played” lost to the alliance of which Russia was a member.

Ironically, the same Versailles court would later reconcile Turkey and Russia in Belgrade.

THREE CONQUESTS OF CRIMEA
At the beginning of the war, in the autumn of 1735, the Russian army under the command of a relative of the royal family, General-in-Chief Mikhail Leontiev, set out on a Crimean campaign.

But they did not reach their goal then - mud and ice prevented them. The sad fate of the campaign of Prince Vasily Golitsyn, the favorite of Tsarevna Sophia in 1687-89, was repeated - as then, the exhaustion of a large army even before the military actions proved fatal.

The following year, 1736, Field Marshal Burchard Christoph Munnich, a brilliant military engineer and intelligent strategist, took up the matter and carried out careful preparations for the offensive.

According to memoirist Christoph Heinrich von Manstein (from that same military dynasty), “Münnich’s army never set out on a campaign without being accompanied by a convoy of 90,000 wagons.” And it worked.

In May 1736, Minikh's Dnieper army broke down the gates to Crimea - the fortifications of Perekop. Unlike the commanders of later eras, General-in-Chief Vasily Dolgorukov-Krymsky and Army Commander Mikhail Frunze, Minikh needed only a few cannon shots to scare off the enemy.

Then Gözlev (Evpatoria) was taken, and in June the capital of the treacherous Kaplan-Girey, Bakhchisarai, was burned.

Then, in June 1736, Azov (which, let us recall, was taken under Peter, but had to be ceded to the Turks) and the Ottoman fortress at the mouth of the Dnieper - Kinburn - were captured. But the army that participated in the Crimean campaign was exhausted by heat and disease. Field Marshal Minich decided to continue the war the following year.

In the spring of 1737, Pyotr Lassi led his Don Army to Crimea, and Minikh to Ochakov. In July, the latter was captured, and the Don Army, having crossed the Sivash, defeated Kaplan's successor, Khan Fethi-Girey, on the Salgir River.

Against the backdrop of Russian successes, Austria entered the war, whose troops entered Turkish Serbia.

VICTORIES DURING THE PLAGUE
But difficulties also emerged. Even during Minikh's first campaign, the Tatars used the scorched earth tactic - they destroyed food and forage supplies, poisoned wells, and drove away the population.

In the campaign of 1738, Lassi's army again managed to take Perekop and invade Crimea. But the Russian troops, cut off from their supply bases, were unable to gain a long-term foothold on the peninsula.

Soldiers and officers did not understand why they were being driven to Crimea for the third year in a row, since it had never been truly conquered. In addition, epidemics began to rage among the troops. And the plague began to penetrate the "frontier" territories, which included, for example, the environs of Kharkov, along with the military trophies.

For example, Colonel Ivan Kvitka of the Izyum Sloboda Cossack Regiment recalled the events of 1738: "In August, the plague became obvious... Through September, the plague continued in Kharkov and other places. Through October, the plague was very strong in Kharkov, and many houses died out to the last soul. The air was stinking."

But from a military point of view, the campaign continued quite successfully.

On August 28, 1739, the above-mentioned battle took place near the Moldavian village of Stavuchany (in the present-day Khotyn district of the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine). In it, Minikh's army routed the army of Veli Pasha and Ilyas Kolchak Pasha, which was superior in size and strength. After this defeat, the Turks surrendered the Khotyn fortress, and about 90 thousand janissaries and soldiers were captured. Kolchak Pasha also surrendered to the Russians.

Even then, Russia could have taken Moldova out of Turkish rule - our troops occupied Iasi. This was a turning point in the war in our favor - and victory was entirely expected.

The young poet and naturalist Mikhail Lomonosov responded to the events with the " Ode on the Capture of Khotin ": "Love for the fatherland strengthens, The spirit and hand of Russian sons; Everyone wants to spill all their blood, The menacing sound invigorates them."

DIRECTED BY VILLENEUVE
But the Austrian allies and, perhaps even more so, domestic diplomats “helped” to nullify the victories of Minich and Lassi.

Due to the inconclusive actions of the army of the Holy Roman Emperor Charles VI of Habsburg, the Turks recaptured Belgrade and a number of other Danube lands. The most talented Austrian commander, Prince Eugene of Savoy, died in 1736, played a fatal role.

Austria, through France, asked the Turks for negotiations, and on September 1, 1739, separately made peace with them, returning Serbia and part of Wallachia to the Sublime Porte.

Russia was left alone with the Ottomans, but thanks to military victories, we were in a strong position from which we could dictate terms in the negotiations. The Versailles court entrusted the mediation to the French ambassador in Constantinople and namesake of the famous modern director, the Marquis Louis de Villeneuve. The negotiations took place in Belgrade, which had been returned to the Turks.

The problem was that the head of the Foreign Ministry, Count Andrei Ivanovich (Heinrich Johann Friedrich) Osterman, was not the strongest diplomat. At the start of the Belgrade negotiations, Russia could lay claim to Crimea, the south of Novorossiya, Bukovina, Moldova and even part of today's Romania.

But judging by the chronicle of the negotiations, the Russian side was continually giving in. Perhaps Osterman wanted to end the conflict as quickly as possible, fearing complications with the European powers - first and foremost with Sweden, with which another war did indeed soon begin.

Some of the acquisitions were defended. In addition to Azov and Taganrog, lost under Peter I, Zaporizhia returned to Russia, where the New Sich arose on the territory of today's Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions. The "Zadneprovskie places" - territories within the borders of today's Kirovograd region of Ukraine - also remained part of the empire.

But the main thing, alas, was that as a result of the Belgrade Peace, the access to the Black Sea was lost for a long time – until the Rumyantsev campaigns – and remained with the Ottomans. There was no talk of control over Crimea – on the contrary, Tatar raids continued for almost another half century. For example, Kharkov landowner Anna Danilevskaya recalled in 1769: “Tatars and Nagays, I tell you, scurried here even during my time.”

THE CAPITAL IS HAVING FUN, THE WINNERS ARE BEING JUDGED
However, in St. Petersburg they hardly thought about the hardships of the border residents - here the big "information occasion" was the court amusements, described in detail a century later by Ivan Lazhechnikov in the novel "The Ice House".

For example, the wedding of the jester Prince Golitsyn and the Kalmyk woman Avdotya Buzheninova that took place in 1740. “ Now is the time for you to have fun, Now the travelers should go wild in every possible way,” wrote the poet Vasily Trediakovsky on this occasion.

In 1740, Anna Ioannovna died, and then, after the accession of her cousin Elizabeth Petrovna, Minikh went into exile to Pelym for two decades, and Osterman to Beryozov. The figures of Anna's reign were tried, however, not for the campaign, but for intrigue at court.

It became unacceptable to remember this campaign for many years. After all, how can you explain to the average person why the army of Rumyantsev and Prince Dolgorukov, and then Potemkin and Suvorov, had to fight where Minikh and Lassi had already been before them?

But - if we ignore diplomatic blunders and take into account only the military component - it became clear: the status quo, which has been in place in the Black Sea steppes (in the future Novorossiya) almost since the Middle Ages, can be completely broken in our favor.

During the course of the campaign, it became clear to the outstanding Russian commander and engineer Burkhard Christoph Minich that the Wild Field needed to be developed and populated.

And not only within the defensive lines built according to his design south of Izyum and Slavyansk, but all the way to the sea coast. In the following reigns, this issue was resolved, but without the participation of the heroes of the forgotten war.

#3  Citing 2014 numbers, the Israeli military said Hamas spent around $30 to $90 million on their Gaza Tunnels. That's a decade ago. And the building and tunneling has not stopped.

$30M - How many toilets would that have bought? A lot, right? At $90M, they could have bought the whole population bidets.

Britain
Chinese Electric Vehicles Could Be 'Weaponised' by Beijing, Report Warns
Imagine the EV 'BOOM'
[Breitbart] The British government’s open-doors approach to electric vehicles from Communist China threatens to undercut domestic manufacturing and expose the country to national security risks, with a think tank warning that EVs could be “weaponised” by Beijing.

A report from the China Strategic Risks Institute (CSRI) warned that the growing market share of and dependency on Chinese-made electric vehicles in Britain presents both “economic and security risks” to the United Kingdom.

The report noted that the UK’s domestic car industry is responsible for 198,000 manufacturing jobs, representing 2.5 per cent of the country’s entire GDP.

However, given Communist China’s subsidization of its burgeoning EV sector, producing an excess of five to ten million cheaply-produced cars per year, the failure by Westminster to impose import restrictions will threaten the future of British car manufacturing.

This process has already begun to have major impacts, with the CSRI claiming that Chinese-made EVs have increased their UK market share from just 2 per cent in 2019 to 33.4 per cent in the first half of 2023.

The think tank warned that London’s refusal to levy tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, as opposed to the neighbouring European Union, could result in Britain becoming a “dumping ground and a potential backdoor into the European market” for Beijing. This could represent a point of friction between the UK and its allies in Europe as well as in the United States, potentially threatening trade with its closest partners, the CSRI said.

Yet, the threats posed by flooding the UK with cars made in China are not merely contained to the economic realm, with the CSRI warning that components within the foreign EVs could be “weaponised” by the communist nation.

According to the CSRI, Chinese-manufactured Cellular Internet of Things Modules (CIMs) used in EVs could be used to send data back the Beijing about British users. The paper noted that the totalitarian government mandates that all firms within the country provide data access to the state, which was one of the motivating factors for the UK’s previous decision to phase out Huawei components from its 5G networks by 2027.

Perhaps more concerningly, however, the think tank warned that the modules within Chinese-made EVs could even allow adversarial forces to remotely shut down or even control the cars in Britain, posing a direct threat to national security.

The CSRI suggested that the UK mandate foreign suppliers of EVs agree to not transmit data overseas under any circumstances, introduce a legal requirement to share their source code with the British government, and allow for regular inspections of data storage centres globally to ensure that sensitive data is not being sent covertly to other servers.

Additionally, the think tank said that to protect domestic car manufacturers, the British government should launch an anti-state subsidies investigation into the Chinese EV market while also considering providing subsidies to British manufacturers or direct subsidies to consumers to promote local industry.

Senior policy director at the CSRI, Sam Goodman said per The Telegraph: “The Government and the public appear to be unaware when it comes to the dependency, disruption, and data security risks the CIMs within Chinese EVs present to the UK.

“We have heard little from the new Government on the risks Chinese EVs present so far. We urge that this be addressed, otherwise, the UK risks alienating its closest allies, deepening its dependency on China for its EV supply chain and the green transition, and leaving itself exposed to being bullied and blackmailed by Beijing.”

Israel deploys elite 98th Division to Lebanon border
[GEO.TV] The Israeli army has announced it's transferring the 98th Division from Gaza to the Lebanon front, according to the Israeli military, Al Jazeera reported.

The unit, comprising 10,000 to 20,000 soldiers, will join the 36th Division under the Northern Command. This strategic move aims to bolster defenses on the northern front amid escalating tensions.

''With peak readiness on the northern front, the Israeli army decided to move the elite 98th brigade there,'' according to Israeli Army Radio. ''The brigade was originally scheduled to continue fighting in Gaza, but it was decided in recent days to transfer it north.''

Kan, the Israeli state-run broadcasting authority, noted the force left Khan Younis in southern Gaza three weeks ago to an unspecified location in the war-battered enclave.
