I like Trump, but I really think DeSantis is a better option. Though a Trump/DeSantis ticket that has Trump absolutely gut the deep state and then retire just past the two year mark so we can get 10 years of DeSantis.

I am still using Microsoft Office 97.
The 1997 version works pretty good on Windows XP.
Plus it is portable.
I have a 60 MB folder with Word and Excel that I can copy to any XP computer and run without installing.
I plan on upgrading to Excel to 2003 only to get the Analysis Toolpak Addin so I can convert from DEC2HEX for partitioning and formatting hard disks and for NTFS hacking work.

Our IT department likes the subscription version, which is useless for those of us in the field who much of the time have very limited internet access. And if you don't connect to the net often enough, they like to disable your laptop. Sometimes I wonder if they actually understand they work for an oilfield services company.

[PUBLISH.TWITTER] The Chinese military flew 16 warplanes over waters south of Taiwan on Sunday as the US expressed concern about what it called China's "provocative military action" near the self-governing island that China claims.
China sent 38 warplanes into the area on Friday and 39 aircraft on Saturday, the most in a single day since Taiwan began releasing reports on the flights in September 2020. The flights came in daytime and nighttime sorties, and it wasn't clear if China was planning more flights on Sunday night.
A statement from US State Department spokesperson Ned Price warned that China's military activity near Taiwan risks miscalculation and undermines regional peace and stability.
"We urge Beijing to cease its military, diplomatic, and economic pressure and coercion against Taiwan," the statement said.
It added that the US, Taiwan's biggest supplier of arms, would continue to help the government maintain a sufficient self-defense capability.
China and Taiwan split in 1949 during a civil war in which the Communists took control of mainland China and the rival Nationalists set up a government on Taiwan, an island of 24 million people about 160 kilometers (100 miles) off the east coast.
China has been sending military planes into the area south of Taiwan on a frequent basis for more than a year. Taiwan's Defense Ministry said 12 fighter jets and four other military aircraft entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone on Sunday.
The ADIZ is not the same as Taiwan’s territorial airspace, but includes a far greater area that overlaps with part of China’s own air defense identification zone and even includes some of mainland China.
Democratic Taiwan’s 23 million people live under the constant threat of invasion by China, which views the island as its territory and has vowed to one day seize it, by force if necessary.
Under Chinese President Xi Jinping, Chinese warplanes are crossing into the ADIZ on a near-daily basis.
"China has been bellicose and damaging regional peace while engaging in many bullying acts," Taiwanese Premier Su Tseng-chang told news hounds on Saturday.
"It’s evident that the world, the international community, rejects such behaviors by China more and more."
Mass incursions used to be rare.
But in the last two years, Beijing has begun sending large sorties into Taiwan’s ADIZ to signal dissatisfaction at key moments — and to keep Taipei’s aging fighter fleet regularly stressed.
Last week, 24 Chinese warplanes flew into the area, after Taiwan applied to join a major trans-Pacific trade pact.
Friday’s show of force came the same week Beijing accused Britannia of "evil attentions" after it sent a frigate to sail through the Taiwan Strait.
China claims the strait as its own waterway, along with most of the disputed South China Sea. Most other nations view them as international waters open to all.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An independent commission examining sex abuse within the Roman Catholic Church in La Belle France believes 3,000 child abusers — two-thirds of them priests — have worked in the church over the past 70 years.
The estimate was given by the commission president, Jean-Marc Sauvé, in an interview published Sunday in the newspaper Journal du Dimanche. The commission has been investigating for 2 1/2 years. Its full findings are scheduled to be released on Tuesday.
In the interview, Sauvé did not give a figure on the number of sex abuse victims but said the report does include a new estimate.
Asked about the commission's work investigating child abusers, he said: "We evaluated their number at 3,000, out of 11,500 priests and church people since the 1950s. Two-thirds are diocesan priests." A little better than a quarter...
He said 22 cases have been forwarded to prosecutors for alleged crimes that can still be pursued. More than 40 cases of alleged crimes that are too old to be prosecuted but that involve suspects who are still alive have been forwarded to church officials, Sauvé said.
"From 1950 to 1970, the church is completely indifferent to the victims: They don't exist, the suffering inflicted on children is ignored," the newspaper quoted him as saying. "The periods that followed were different."
He added: "Our objective is to furnish a concrete diagnosis of all the abuses, to identify the causes and draw all of the consequences."

11,500 seems a bit low. According to wickedpedia, "Total priests in 2006" (after a long decline): 20,523. In 1996 (use that for the average over the whole period): 27781.
If the working lifetime of a priest is about 30 years, scale that average by 2.3 to get 64,800 during that 70 years. Plus "church people."
I don't know what they mean by "church people", but it looks to me as though the total would be closer to 115,000 than 11,500.

As per the eyewitnesses, the shooters have boarded a Reksha taxi and started firing at people in an auto.
Sayed Maroof Sadat was a journalism graduate from Kabul University and was working as a journalist in radio "Sub Bakhair and Sham Bakhair".
He was recently assigned as media in charge of the directorate of urban development in Nangarhar province and was also working for a number of foreign media in the province.

[Rudaw] Iraq’s electoral commission on Friday cancelled its endorsement of a prominent Sunni candidate accused of "praising" the normalization of ties with Israel. The decision was made a week after a US organization hosted a conference in Erbil to discuss opening ties with Israel.
The Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) excluded Haidar al-Mulla from the October 10 election after he used "obscene expressions" and "praised" the normalization of ties with Israel in a leaked audio recording, read a statement from the commission. Votes cast for Mulla will not be counted.
Mulla has been "attacking the political system in Iraq since 2003," the commission added.
Mulla is a well-known figure from the Taqadum Alliance, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi. The complaint against him originated from Taqadum’s main rival, the Azm Alliance. They are both looking to dominate the Sunni areas of Iraq. Taqadum has a total of 150 candidates while Azm has 124 across the country.
Mulla has three days to appeal to the decision, according to IHEC.
The spokesperson for Taqadum said the complaint against Mulla was politically motivated and his exclusion from the election is "targeting the influential figures and candidates of Taqadum Alliance who we think will win," Saud Mashhadani told Rudaw.
Mulla is a lawyer and served in the Iraqi parliament between 2010 and 2014.
"The decision is subject to appeal," he said in a Facebook video shared late Friday night.
Iraqis will go to the polls on October 10.
Support for opening up ties with Israel is a contentious topic in Iraq, after a conference last week put on by the New York-based Center for Peace and Communication in Erbil about normalizing ties with Israel. It was attended by about 300 Sunnis and Shiites. The meeting and its call for diplomatic relations with Israel was slammed by the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Iraqi government and several Shiite figures. Warrants have been issued for attendees. A key speaker at the conference has said he was tricked and recanted the statement he made at the forum. Iraq does not recognize Israel and supports Paleostinian statehood aspirations.
Several candidates have been barred from the election for violating codes of conduct.
Shaalan Abdul-Jabbar Ali, who is also a member of Taqadum Alliance, was excluded on Monday after he claimed that he spent his own money to pave the streets. "The candidate’s election campaign includes state-owned mechanisms that carry-out street paving process," state media reported IHEC as saying.
He appealed the decision and the suspension of his candidacy was lifted.
The commission canceled the endorsement of the candidacy of Ashwaq Fahed Aboud al-Ghurairi because there is a criminal case against her on charges of buying votes.
There are more than 3,200 candidates competing for 329 seats in the parliament. Nine seats are reserved by minorities and there are 67 candidates vying for these spots. At least 25 million Iraqis are eligible to vote, but polls predict a record low turnout.

[GREATERKASHMIR] Security forces launched a search operation in Arin forest area in the upper reaches of north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Sunday, officials said.
According to the officials, the search operation was launched this morning jointly by units of the army, paratroopers, Special Operations Group of J&K police and CRPF folowing inputs about the presence of militants in the woods.
The militants believed to be hiding in the forest area are said to be foreign with most of their local associates having been killed in recent gunfights in Bandipora.
Six militants both locals and foreigners have been killed in three gunfights since July this year in the district.

Petrescu, 68, was one of Romania's richest men. He headed a major construction firm and owned a string of hypermarkets and malls. He also held Germany nationality, the Corriere della Sera newspaper reported.
Corriere and the AGI news agency said Petrescu's 65-year-old wife, who also had French nationality, and their son Dan Stefano, 30, were killed, as well as a child.
Milan Mayor Beppe Sala and his San Donato counterpart Andrea Checchi headed to the scene.
Deputy prosecutor Tiziana Siciliano was quoted by Corriere as saying that the plane's black box had been recovered.

A ministry statement said Seoul hopes the two Koreas will resume talks soon to discuss how to implement previous cooperation agreements and establish a peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Some experts say North Korea is trying to use South Korea’s desire to improve ties to pressure it to persuade the United States to relax punishing economic sanctions.
Separate from its peace overtures, North Korea has conducted a series of missile tests that were its first weapons launches in six months. The weapons tested include potentially nuclear-capable missiles that place South Korea and Japan, both key US allies, within striking distance.

[AoSHQ] There is nothing here that is shocking or even a little bit surprising. Fauci and his ilk have been working assiduously for decades toward their goals of consolidation of power, access to ever increasing funding, and the creation of a cult of personality.
What's that? Their jobs? No...their jobs to protect Americans from infectious diseases is simply an obstacle. Why should Fauci care about that stuff when there are funds to be (mis)spent on glamorous projects all over the world.
Like funding the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
No matter that the primary motivation of those "partners" is antithetical to a free society and contrary to the goals of the organization which Fauci heads.
Previously unearthed presentations from the Texas-based lab show its researchers training counterparts at the Wuhan Institute of Virology on how to handle the "world’s most dangerous pathogens." American researchers funded by Fauci, such as University of North Carolina’s Dr. Ralph Baric, have visited the China-based lab as part of the program.
Baric is a proponent of gain-of-function research, calling the controversial form of virus manipulation "a crucial tool," and was referenced by Senator Rand Paul as a partner of the Wuhan lab’s top bat coronavirus researcher Shi Zhengli while she carried out the risky form of research.
Fauci denied any involvement — via funding or personnel— from his NIAID on the research.
The arrogance that Fauci has displayed for his entire career -- that he simply knows better than everyone else -- is belied by the facts. He is responsible for the outrageous death rate from AIDS because he refused to use obvious and time-tested public health techniques to limit its spread. He also slow-walked the protection of the blood supply...dooming hemophiliacs in America to cruel deaths.
And his behavior with CCP flu is no different. Whether it was his intent to create the virus (I doubt that) or simply to extend his empire of funding control and entree to the best cocktail parties is irrelevant. His actions made everything worse for America and Americans, but he simply does not care, because like so many in similar positions in the Leviathan that is the federal government, he does not care about quaint ideas like love of country or patriotism or even just doing a good job.
He cares about making a lot of money through relationships that he cultivated with his control of funding, public exposure to raise his political profile, and most of all...power!
That he is ultimately responsible for the catastrophe that is the Wuhan lab and the transfer of technology to our enemies is unimportant to him. He is a craven, amoral, manipulative man who has no loyalty to anything but himself.
Anyone who seriously says "To Question me is to Question Science!" isn't anything close to a scientist.
