Iran, Germany feud over Tehran’s execution of a dual national
[Rudaw] Iran’s ministry of foreign affairs on Tuesday rejected criticism by Germany over Tehran’s execution of dual national Jamshid Sharmahd, saying that a European passport does not guarantee freedom from punishment.

"No terrorist enjoys impunity in Iran. Even if supported by Germany," the foreign ministry announced, resharing a post on X by Minister Abbas Araghchi.

He defended the use of capital punishment for Sharmahd, who was executed in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
on Monday on charges of "corruption on Earth" and "leading terror operations," according to state media.

"A German passport does not provide impunity to anyone..." Iran’s foreign ministry added, stating that Sharmahd led an attack on a mosque in 2008 that killed 14 people and injured 200.

Sharmahd, 69, was a German journalist of Iranian descent who was sentenced to death in February 2023. He was accused of heading a pro-monarchist group responsible for the bombing. Tehran does not recognize dual citizenship.

Germany’s foreign ministry in the "strongest possible terms" protested the Iranian regime’s execution, recalling its ambassador to Tehran and Iran’s envoy to Berlin on Tuesday.

"Our ambassador in Tehran today delivered a demarche to the Iranian Foreign Minister and protested in the strongest possible terms against the murder of Jamshid Sharmahd," read a post on X by Germany’s foreign office.

"We have conveyed our strong protest against the actions of the regime and reserve the right to take further action," the post added.

Sharmahd was kidnapped from Dubai in July 2020 by agents of the ministry of intelligence and was taken to Iran, Amnesty International reported the following month.

The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
’s top diplomat Josep Borrell also condemned the execution.

Iran executed at least 853 people in 2023, Amnesty reported in a research report published in April, adding that it was the highest recorded total for Iran since 2015.

IDF says it foiled attempt to smuggle weapons into Israel from Egypt by drone
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says it foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons into Israel from Egypt yesterday, using a drone.

The drone was identified crossing the border from Egypt into Israel, before it was downed.

Troops dispatched to the scene found that the drone was ferrying four rifles and a handgun, the military adds.

It is the second such incident in recent weeks.

Rocket fired from Lebanon toward Israel hits Irish peacekeepers’ base; nobody hurt
[IsraelTime] Ireland’s military says a base for Irish peacekeeping troops in southern Lebanon has been hit by a rocket fired toward Israel. No one was injured.

Lt. Gen. Sean Clancy, chief of staff of Ireland’s defense forces, says the Katyusha rocket landed in an unoccupied area of Camp Shamrock yesterday, causing “minimal damage.”

He says the rocket was traveling toward Israel, and it is unclear whether it fell or was taken down by Israel’s Iron Dome defense system.

About 350 Irish soldiers are currently deployed as peacekeepers with the United Nations mission in Lebanon known as UNIFIL.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris describes the incident as “extremely serious” and says not enough is being done to protect peacekeeping troops amid the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.
Note how he carefully is not blaming the actual perpetrator, dear Reader.
“I really reiterate my call in relation to the need for people to respect international law and respect the specific protections that are provided to peacekeepers in relation to that,” he says.

Netanyahu lays out war strategy in Gaza and Lebanon, says top goal is preventing Iran from going nuclear
[IsraelTimes] Speaking at the end of an IDF combat officers training course at Bahad 1 near Mitzpe Ramon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israeli freedom to stop Hezbollah attacks is more important than ceasefire agreements in Leb
...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
"The agreements, the papers, the proposals, the numbers [UN Security Council Resolution] 1509, 1701 — all these have their place, but they are not the main thing," he says, hours after meeting and making a similar point to top White House Middle East aides. "The main thing is our ability and our determination to enforce security, to thwart attacks against us and to act against the arming of our enemies as much as is necessary despite all the pressures and constraints — that is the main thing."

Amid chants of "Bibi, Bibi" and regular applause, Netanyahu says Israel attacked Iran’s "soft underbelly" in its recent strikes.

"The brash words of the leaders of the regime in Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
cannot cover up the fact that Israel has greater freedom of action in Iran today than ever before. We can reach anywhere in Iran as needed."

Last week, the Israeli Air Force attacked anti-aircraft batteries and radar sites in Iran in retaliation for a massive Iranian ballistic missile attack on October 1.

The IDF’s supreme goal is stopping Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, the premier says.

"I have not removed, we have not removed and we will not remove our eyes from this goal. For obvious reasons, I cannot detail our plans for achieving this supreme goal."

Netanyahu says that the fight against the Iranian axis is guided by the "total victory concept."

"I am not establishing a date for the end of the war, but I am establishing clear goals for victory in the war," he says.

Seemingly pushing back against criticism that the military effort since October 7, 2023, has been mismanaged, the premier says: "There is a path, there is a direction. There are clear goals."

"We chose to focus initially on pounding Hamas
..a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",...
militarily in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
, and not to divide our forces between two main efforts at the same time," Netanyahu explains.

"After we destroyed Hamas’s organized force, after 90 percent of the residents returned home safely in the south, we focused our efforts on the north."

Israel is "changing the strategic reality in the Middle East," he boasts, but warns that Israel is still "in the eye of the storm."

"I really, really appreciate the support of the US," says Netanyahu. "When possible — I say yes. When I have to — I say no."

Netanyahu blasts "those who pushed for a premature diplomatic arrangement in Lebanon before we destroyed the tunnel network on our border, before we eliminated [Hezbollah leader Hassan] Nasrallah and his replacement, and his replacement’s replacement. Before we destroyed much of Hezbollah’s rocket arsenal."

He notes that more than half of the hostages taken in Hamas’s October 7 onslaught have been brought home from Gaza, and adds that Israel is working to get the rest back, but contends that this is a matter for action behind the scenes rather than talking about publicly.

Netanyahu also goes out of his way to praise IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi.

1,300 drones have been launched at Israel from all fronts since start of war — IDF
[IsraelTimes] According to fresh IDF data, some 1,300 drones have been launched at Israel since the start of the war last year, from all fronts — Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and Iran.

The IDF says that 231 of the drones struck Israel, causing causalities and damage in some cases. Drones that exploded in open areas are also counted as having struck Israel.

Some 80 percent of drones have been intercepted, according to the military.

The IDF says it is increasing its efforts against Hezbollah’s aerial forces, known as Unit 127, which is responsible for drone attacks on Israel.

So far, the commander of the unit has been killed, along with other officers. In all, around 10% of the unit’s members have been killed or wounded, according to the IDF.

The Hezbollah aerial forces are currently left with some 30% of the drones it had before the war — thought to be in the hundreds — according to IDF assessments.

The military says that it has struck 54 sites used by the aerial forces to store drones, 24 sites used to store cruise missiles, eight sites where drones and cruise missiles were assembled, six underground sites, and seven weapon depots.

Iran reportedly preparing strike on Israel from Iraqi territory within days
Israeli spy squirrels strike again!
[IsraelTimes] Israeli intelligence suggests Iran is preparing to attack Israel from Iraqi territory in the coming days, possibly before the US presidential election on November 5, Axios reports, citing two unidentified Israeli sources.

The attack is expected to be carried out from Iraq using a large number of drones and ballistic missiles, the Axios report adds.

The report says that carrying out the attack through pro-Iran militias in Iraq could be an attempt by Tehran to avoid another Israeli attack against strategic targets in Iran.
No wonder the Iraqi government is nervous about Israeli retaliation, and wants the Harris-Biden administration to guarantee protection.

Bill Clinton: Kibbutzniks slaughtered on Oct. 7 were Israelis most supportive of Palestinian cause
Wheels within wheels. Does he really think this will help the VP with Moslem voters?
[IsraelTimes] Former US president Bill Clinton defended Israel’s war against Hamas while campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris in Michigan yesterday.

“Let me talk about the hardest issue here in Michigan, the Middle East. I have to be careful what I say because there’s only one president at a time, and none of us can get ahead of where we’re going. But I think we’re going to have to essentially start again on the peace process,” says a hoarse Clinton.

“I understand why young Palestinian and Arab Americans in Michigan think too many people have died, but if you lived in one of those kibbutzim in Israel, right next to Gaza, where the people there were the most pro-friendship with Palestine — the most pro-two-state solution of any of the Israeli communities were the ones right next to Gaza, and Hamas butchered them,” he notes.

“The people who criticize [Israel’s response] are essentially saying, ‘Yeah, but look how many people you’ve killed in retaliation, how many is enough for you to kill to punish them for the terrible things they did?'”

“That all sounds nice until you realize what you would do if it was your family and you hadn’t done anything but support a homeland for the Palestinians, and one day they come for you and slaughter the people in your village.”

“You would say, ‘You have to forgive me, but I’m not keeping score that way.’ It isn’t how many we’ve had to kill because Hamas makes sure that they’re shielded by civilians. They’ll force you to kill civilians if you want to defend yourself,” Clinton says.

Illegal migrant accused of shooting Jewish man heading to Chicago synagogue charged with hate crime, terrorism
[NYPost] The illegal migrant who allegedly opened fire on a Jewish man walking to synagogue in reliably Democrat Chicago, aka The Windy City or Mobtown
...home of Al Capone, the Chicago Black Sox, a succession of Daleys, Barak Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel...
last weekend was hit with new hate crime and terrorism charges on Thursday, according to authorities.

Sidi Mohammed Abdallahi, 22, was slapped with the additional charges after he allegedly shot and maimed a 39-year-old Jewish man Saturday morning in the city’s West Ridge neighborhood — and then got into an ensuing shootout with authorities leading up to his arrest.

Just before he exchanged gunfire with police, the alleged gunman reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar." He was critically maimed in the shootout where medics were also caught in the crossfire. Abdallahi remained hospitalized on Thursday.

The victim fortunately did not sustain life-threatening injuries and no first responders were hurt.

Abdallahi was initially charged with counts of attempted murder, attempted murder of a police officer, aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

The lack of hate crime charges at the start of the case infuriated members of the Jewish community. But Snelling said Sherlocks needed time to firm up the felony count as a hate crime and terrorism charge.

"There must be sufficient evidence to support hate crimes and terrorism charges and it was important we took our time to thoroughly investigate and confirm that this was indeed a crime of that nature," he said. "We did not secure these charges because of public pressure or media attention."

Detectives combed through the suspect’s phone which showed he planned to target Jewish community members leading up to the shooting, Snelling added.
”Note to self: Make sure all I kill are actually juices, and not just Jooish looking Italians or Arabs or Russians. It’s really hard to tell sometimes — some of them look almost human.”
A terrorism charge is rarely lodged, Cook County State Attorney Kim Foxx
...one of the so-called Soros DAs, though other Progressive Very Rich People also donate to the project...
noted.

"We underscore the gravity of targeting specific communities with violence intended to intimidate or terrorize," she said. "This charge sends a clear message."

Mayor Brandon Johnson
...Hizzonner da Mare of Chicago. He was elected in April 2023 to replace the disastrous Lori Lightfoot and immediately set about out-Richtering her. A member of the Democratic Party (naturally), Johnson previously worked as a social studies teacher in the city's stellar public schools system. He helped organize the 2012 teachers strike. Prior to becoming Da Mare, he served on the Cook County Board of Boodlng Commissioners from 2018 to 2023...
, who was blasted earlier the week for not acknowledging that the victim was Jewish in an initial statement, called the hate directed at the Jewish community "hideous."

"There is absolutely no place in Chicago for antisemitism," Johnson said during the presser. "There’s no place in our city for hatred toward the Jewish community."
Sure there is. If there weren’t, you wouldn’t have equivocated in your first response.
Abdallahi, who is from the West African country Mauritania,
…good to know. The initial description of his homeland as western North Africa was awfully vague…
entered San Diego in March 2023 and was screened by border agents before he was released into the country, officials previously told The Post.
They do that a lot under the current administration. That’s why their union endorsed President Trump.
When the migrant was caught at the border last year, authorities didn’t find any criminal or terrorist histories linked to him, sources said.
Except that he broke the law when he entered the country…
Abdallahi was due in court on Tuesday, but that’s been delayed because he remains in the hospital, Foxx said.

About anti-semitism in Chicago:
Newly appointed president of Chicago education board resigns amid uproar over antisemitic social media posts

[IsraelTimes] The newly appointed president of the Chicago Board of Education has tendered his resignation after coming under fire for past antisemitic and conspiratorial social media posts.

The Chicago Sun Times reports that Rev. Mitchell Johnson’s decision came at the request of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson (no relation).

A day earlier, the Chicago mayor had defended the embattled CBE president, saying he had “expressed sorrow and is seeking atonement.”

But the mayor apparently shifted his approach after Illinois Governor JB Pritzker joined the super-majority of Chicago council members who called for Johnson’s ouster.

Many of Johnson’s most controversial posts — uncovered by Jewish Insider — came amid Hamas’s October 7 onslaught and the ensuing war in Gaza.

“People have an absolute right to attack their oppressors by any means necessary,” he wrote in one post.

“My Jewish colleagues appear drunk with the Israeli power and will live to see their payment,” Johnson said in another.

Johnson had been sworn in by the Chicago mayor just last week.

IDF denies damaging UNRWA office in West Bank, says terror operatives detonated bomb in area
[IsraelTimes] The IDF issues a statement denying responsibility for damaging UNRWA’s office in the West Bank camp of Nur Shams, saying the damage was caused by Palestinian terror operatives.
Perhaps someone over there is miffed at Hamas.
“The claim that the UNRWA offices in Nur Shams were destroyed by IDF soldiers is false,” the statement reads.

“Terrorists planted explosives in the proximity of the UNRWA offices that were then detonated in an attempt to harm IDF soldiers.
Or perhaps it was Hamas/UNRWA turbans wanting to stay close to home, as it were.
The explosives likely caused damage to the structure,” the IDF statement adds.

If the Paleostinian Problem ever gets solved, UNRWA is out of business. Gone. All those good-paying jobs, the fancy offices, cocktail parties with the donors, all gone. Tragic, from an NGO point of view.

This is not an unusual dynamic. You see it with teacher's unions. As long as the kids cannot read or write, the school system needs more money. And we need to pay teachers more to attract qualified people. The fact that more money didn't fix anything is a sign we need more money.

But Sudani’s government has not been successful in a push to convince the Islamic Resistance® in Iraq — a coalition of Iran-backed gangs — to stop firing rockets and drones at Israel, according to four sources in Iran-backed gangs and two government advisors.

Two visits to Iran by Iraq’s top security officials in the past two months, seeking Tehran’s help to rein in its allied Iraqi factions, failed, the sources say.

"The Iraqi delegation received a cold reception in Tehran... The answer was: those groups have their own decision and it is their call to decide how to support their brothers in Lebanon and Gaza," said a senior Iraqi security official briefed on the visits.

Baghdad turned to Washington, asking US officials to intervene with Israel to prevent retaliation for the attacks, including one that killed two Israeli soldiers and maimed more than 20 on October 4, the sources say, the first time such an attack has been reported to cause fatalities.

"Washington was understanding of the repercussions of possible Israeli strikes in Iraq and pledged to help," says an Iraqi foreign ministry official.

7 people killed in Hezbollah rocket attacks, marking deadliest day in months for north
[IsraelTimes] Israeli and four Thai nationals killed in Metula orchard; pair, reportedly mother and son, killed in olive grove near Haifa

Hezbollah rocket attacks on northern Israel killed seven people in agricultural fields near Metula and Haifa Thursday, marking what appeared to be the deadliest day in months for civilians inside Israel.

The deaths, which raised the number of civilians killed in the last year of cross-border attacks on northern Israel to 39, were likely to loom large in meetings between Israeli officials and US mediators hoping to end over a month of fighting, as the military continued to expand its strikes on Hezbollah sites deep inside Leb

Authorities said five people working in an apple orchard near the border town of Metula were killed when a rocket fired from Lebanon struck them late Thursday morning.

Another person was seriously maimed in the attack.

The victims were all agricultural laborers who had been working in the orchard at the time of the strike. One was an Israeli citizen, while the others were foreign nationals.

The Israeli was named by Kibbutz Dafna as Omer Weinstein, a member of the community.

Early Friday, Thailand’s foreign minister identified the foreign nationals killed in the attack as Thai citizens.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed in a short statement that two rockets had been fired from Lebanon at the Metula area, and said the details of the incident were being examined.

Hours later, two more people were killed while in an olive grove outside the Haifa suburb of Kiryat Ata as Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at the area, authorities said. The two, described as a woman in her 60s and a man in his 30s, were killed by falling shrapnel, according to the Magen David Adom rescue service. Hebrew media reports described the two as a mother and son who had been harvesting olives when the rocket hit. They were named in reports as Mina Hasson, 60, and Karmi Hasson, 21, from the Arab-majority city of Shfaram. Rescuers found the pair in a field near Gilam junction, along with a man in his 70s, who was hospitalized with light injuries.

Buses and cars at the busy intersection were strafed by shrapnel, but no other major injuries were reported.

According to the IDF, Hezbollah fired some 25 rockets at the Haifa region and other parts of the north in the attack. "Some were shot down and some fell in the area," the IDF said.

The corpse count for a single day of cross-border fire was among the highest since Hezbollah began lobbing rockets and drones into northern Israel on October 8, 2023.

It appeared to mark the deadliest day for northern Israel since fighting intensified last month and since a July 27 Hezbollah rocket attack that killed 12 children at a park in the Druze town of Majdal Shams.

It wasn’t long before rocket warning sirens blared once more, this time in Karmiel and other communities across the Galilee region, as Hezbollah launched a barrage of some 30 rockets toward northern Israel. No casualties were reported in that attack.

According to the military, some 60 rockets and drones were fired at northern Israel as of Thursday afternoon.

Some of the projectiles were intercepted by air defenses, the IDF said, while others struck open areas.

Haaretz in government crosshairs after publisher calls terrorists ‘freedom fighters’
Rightfully is Ha’aretz called the New York Times of Israel.
[IsraelTimes] Newspaper boss also tells its conference in London that Israel is imposing ‘apartheid,’ should be sanctioned; some ministries cut ties with it; government consider complete boycott

The ministries of the interior, education, and Diaspora affairs cut ties with the Haaretz newspaper Thursday, while the communications minister proposed a boycott covering all government bodies, after publisher Amos Schocken told a conference that Israel is imposing an "apartheid regime" on the Paleostinians and referred to "Paleostinian freedom fighters that Israel calls terrorists."
Some have to learn by peeing on the electric fence, as Fred so picturesquely says in one of his auto-translations.
In a letter to its spokesperson’s department, Interior Ministry Director General Ronen Peretz wrote that Schocken’s remarks "provoke disgust and show a disconnect from basic values."

He said that Israel is in the midst of a war "that could not be more justified" following the Paleostinian terror group Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians.

The action would cover all advertising and announcements of government tenders in both the printed edition and on the Haaretz website, Channel 12 reported.

"Our ministry is entrusted with the campaign against the delegitimization of Israel, and it is astounding to specifically see a supposedly ’Israeli’ organization acting against Israel from within," Diaspora Affairs Ministry Director-General Avi Cohen-Scali said.

Education Ministry Director General Meir Shimoni likewise ordered an end to all cooperation with Haaretz, telling staff in a letter that Schocken’s remarks "contradict the values of the education system."

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie ducked another tomato...
Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi proposed to the government that it end all interaction with Haaretz, including ads by the Government Press Office.

Such action, he wrote in the proposal, "will reduce the hard impact that Israeli citizens feel, not just from the newspaper’s publications, but also because they are required to fund it from their tax money."

The boycott would not entail a disproportionate impact on freedom of speech, Karhi said. He noted that Haaretz must have taken into account that its stance, as expressed by Schocken, would upset some of its clients, including the State of Israel.

In his remarks, made Sunday at a Haaretz conference in London and circulated on social media in a video apparently compiled from several excerpts from his speech, Schocken was seen saying, "The Netanyahu government doesn’t care about imposing a cruel apartheid regime on the Paleostinian population. It dismisses the costs to both sides for defending the [West Bank] settlements while fighting the Paleostinian freedom fighters that Israel calls terrorists."

"In a sense, what is taking place in the occupied territories and parts of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. is a second Nakba," Schocken said, invoking a term describing the displacement of Paleostinians during Israel’s War of Independence in 1948.

He said the only way to establish a necessary Paleostinian state is "to apply sanctions against Israel, against the leaders who oppose it, and against the settlers."

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, Schocken said he had reconsidered his remarks and should have used different wording regarding Paleostinian freedom fighters.

"I’ve reconsidered what I said," Schocken said. "There are many freedom fighters in the world and through history, perhaps also on the path to the establishment of the State of Israel, who carried out shocking and dreadful terrorist activities and harmed innocent people in order to achieve their goals.

"I should have said, ’Freedom fighters who also use terrorist methods and need to be fought against.’ The use of terrorism is not legitimate," Schocken said.

Israel rejects accusations of apartheid in the Paleostinian territories by pointing out that the Paleostinians living there are citizens of the Paleostinian Authority, which has a form of self-rule, and that Arab Israelis enjoy rights equal to those of their Jewish counterparts.

The Choose Life forum, which represents some terror victims and their families, said they had filed a complaint with police accusing Schocken of incitement and of encouraging harm to the state and its security forces.

"Such remarks are beyond the bounds of free speech and cross into incitement," the forum said in a statement. By calling turbans "freedom fighters," it wrote, Schocken was "supporting the enemies of the state."

Karhi had already called for ending government ties to Haaretz in November last year, citing the left-leaning newspaper’s reporting on the war.

Israeli couple from Lod, man from Bnei Brak are latest charged with spying for Iran
[IsraelTimes] In new espionage cases, prosecutors say pair tracked woman at top security think tank, while man spied on nuclear scientist for potential assassination

A couple from Lod were indicted Thursday on suspicion of spying for Iran. Officials said the two gathered intelligence on key national infrastructure sites and followed an academic figure at a security think tank that Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. allegedly intended to harm physically.

In permitting for publication the arrest of Lod residents Rafael and Lala Guliyev, both aged around 32, the Shin Bet and Israel Police noted in a joint statement that their case was the latest in a number of incidents of alleged espionage for Tehran that were made public in recent weeks.

Hours later, prosecutors also revealed that another man, Asher Binyamin Weiss of Bnei Brak, was indicted last week on suspicion of activities that involved tracking a nuclear scientist, who was the target of an alleged Iranian liquidation plot uncovered when another suspected Iranian cell was caught.

Both the recent cases saw the suspects allegedly following security figures, photographing and filming their homes and cars and then sending the material to Iranian handlers who were seeking to recruit assassins, according to prosecutors.

In their statement, the Shin Bet and police said the Guliyevs were recruited as part of an Iranian network focusing on immigrants colonists to Israel from the Caucasus region. They said the two were approached by an Israeli of Azerbaijani origin named in the statement as Elshan (Elchanan) Agyeiv, 56.

According to officials, Rafael Guliyev carried out surveillance tasks on security sites in Israel, including Mossad headquarters near Tel Aviv, and collected information on an academic working at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS). Iran had singled out the woman to be targeted for physical harm, the statement said, without giving details or naming her.

Officials said Rafael Guliyev was also tasked with finding an assassin on behalf of his Iranian handlers and was assisted by his wife on a number of missions.

A Shin Bet official said the investigation revealed "once again the efforts of the Iranian intelligence agencies to recruit and exploit Israeli citizens in order to promote espionage and terrorist activity in Israel."

An indictment was filed against the pair at the Lod District Court, revealing more details of the allegations against them.

Asking that the suspects be held until the end of proceedings, prosecutors noted that they "committed security offenses at a time when Israel is fighting one of the most difficult wars it has ever known, on many fronts, including Iran. They were aware of being agents of entities hostile to Israel and nonetheless continued to cooperate with them."

Prosecutors said that Guliyev had been in contact with two Iranian agents since 2021. Over the years he also allegedly made his own suggestions of activities that the agents could find beneficial.

He received $600 for each day he spent following the INSS woman, and spent hours filming and photographing her home and car, according to the indictment.

Guliyev’s Iranian handlers told him to purchase equipment such as a dedicated phone, high-quality cameras and a laptop computer on which he installed encryption software. Communications were made via the Telegram app and encrypted applications, prosecutors said, with the Iranians urging Guliyev to be careful that the messages were not discovered.

The couple are also accused of photographing and videoing the Moldovan consulate in Tel Aviv, Israel Electric Coroporation sites, the Haifa Port, a water pumping state in Hadera, public bomb shelters in Tel Aviv and graves of victims of Hamas

that were posted near the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv.

In total, the pair received $26,000 from the Iranians, according to the charge sheet.

A senior Shin Bet official said in the statement that the spate of recent incidents showed "the efforts by Iranian intelligence to draft and take advantage of Israeli citizens for the purpose of spying and terror acts in Israel."

A police source said the force will work relentlessly "against those conscienceless criminals who cooperate with the enemy and endanger the Israeli public."

The INSS, in a statement, thanked the Shin Bet for foiling the plot. Institute chief Tamir Hayman said it was "not surprising that INSS people are a target for Iran and its proxies" as the think tank plays a leading role in security research.

Hayman said he was in constant contact with relevant security services and acting according to their instructions.

Hours later, the State Attorney’s Office reported it had filed an indictment against Weiss, the Bnei Brak resident, on suspicion that he acted on behalf of Iran by tracking an Israeli nuclear scientist whom the Iranian regime sought to assassinate.

Weiss was indicted on charges of contact with a foreign agent, passing information to the enemy, and obstruction of justice.

According to the indictment, Weiss used a GoPro camera to video the scientist’s house and car. The Iranian agent sent the video footage to a young man from East Jerusalem who was tasked with assassinating the scientist. Seven East Jerusalem residents were arrested last month in connection with that case, which saw officials bust another alleged Iranian spy ring.

Weiss also allegedly carried out acts of sabotage such as setting cars on fire and spraying graffiti. He is also accused of posting hundreds of posters in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan calling for civil revolt.

For his work, he was paid thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency, prosecutors said. In order to prove he had carried out instructions, he sent photos of his actions to his handlers, they said.

The seven suspects from last week, all men aged 19 to 23 from the Beit Safafa neighborhood in East Jerusalem without previous criminal or security-related records, were pursuing the liquidation of an Israeli nuclear scientist as well as the mayor of a large city in central Israel, the authorities said in a statement at the time.

Six of those suspects are Israeli citizens, and the other is a permanent resident.

The suspects carried out various missions for their Iranian contacts, including posting graffiti demanding the release of Israeli hostages, vandalizing sites in Jerusalem, and photographing various locations, the authorities said. Then, upping the severity, the leader of the ring, a 23-year-old named Rami Alian, was asked to hurl a hand grenade at a security serviceman, though the attack never went ahead.

Alian was ultimately given a photo and address of a nuclear scientist whom the Islamic Theocratic Republic wanted him to assassinate, and was told he would be paid NIS 200,000 ($53,000) if he succeeded, authorities said.

He allegedly began preparations, gathering information about the target, including his daily habits, whereabouts, and other personal information, but the cell was arrested before it could move forward.

The Shin Bet in recent months has announced a series of alleged Iranian plots, in which Tehran had tried to trick Israelis online into carrying out missions.

In September, seven Jewish Israelis were arrested on suspicion of spying on security figures and IDF bases for Iran.

They were accused of collecting information for their Iranian contacts about several Israeli citizens, including a senior security figure — whom authorities have not publicly identified — and may have been part of a plot to ultimately assassinate the figure. It was not immediately clear if that was the nuclear scientist believed targeted in the other case.

The suspects allegedly followed this figure, including taking pictures at his door, and also surveilled his children.

In September, a man from the southern city of Ashkelon was arrested on allegations that he was smuggled into Iran twice and received payment to carry out missions on behalf of Tehran, and was recruited to assassinate either Israel’s prime minister, defense minister, or the head of the Shin Bet.

Then, on October 14, a man and his 18-year-old partner, both from Ramat Gan, were arrested on charges they carried out various acts of sabotage and vandalism on behalf of an Iranian agent.

On October 16, the Israel Police and State Attorney’s Office announced the arrest of a man from central Israel, who allegedly acquired a weapon in order to kill an Israeli scientist on instructions from an Iranian agent, after performing several smaller tasks on the agent’s behalf.

Those recent cases came after authorities in January uncovered a scheme involving Israelis who were allegedly recruited to gather intelligence on high-profile figures.

Hochstein and McGurk met over the course of the day with Prime Minister Netanyahu, Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Shin Bet director Ronan Bar, Mossad director David Barnea and other senior Israeli officials.

"There was a particular focus on efforts to secure a ceasefire deal in Lebanon that allows people on both sides of the Blue Line to return safely to their homes as well as new initiatives to secure the release of hostages, which Hamas

must do without delay," the US official said, adding that Washington "will not negotiate either issue in public."

Netanyahu’s office said "the main issue" that the premier discussed with Hochstein and McGurk were "Israel’s ability and determination to enforce the agreement and thwart any threat to its security from Lebanon."

said on Thursday that Israel and Lebanon were moving toward understandings on what is required for implementing UN Resolution 1701 that would result in a sustainable end to the conflict.

"It’s important to make sure we have clarity, both from Lebanon and from Israel, about what would be required under 1701 to get its effective implementation," Blinken told a presser. "I can tell you that based on my recent trip to the region, the work that’s ongoing right now, we have made good progress on those understandings."

While good progress had been made, there was still more work to do, Blinken said.

The United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
Security Council adopted Resolution 1701 in 2006 with the aim of keeping peace on the border between Lebanon and Israel, but provisions on Hezbollah’s disarmament and the prevention of their presence near the Israeli border were quickly ignored.

Lebanon’s prime minister expressed hope on Wednesday that a ceasefire deal with Israel would be announced within days as Israel’s public broadcaster published what it said was a draft agreement providing for an initial 60-day truce.

According to the US news site Axios, Israel’s main demand is to be able to conduct "active enforcement" of Resolution 1701, which requires that the Lebanese Armed Forces be the only force with arms in southern Lebanon.

A report in The Wall Street Journal said that demand is likely to face steep resistance from both Hezbollah and the Lebanese government over concerns it violates the country’s illusory sovereignty.

The report said Hezbollah told mediators the 60-day ceasefire leaves the door open to "Israeli aggression in Lebanon," and that the terror group is staunchly against any modification of resolution 1701.

The Wall Street Journal also reported that there seemed to be progress in convincing Hezbollah to drop its insistence that there be no halt to the fighting in Lebanon until there’s a ceasefire in Gaza.

The attacks on northern Israel since October 2023 have resulted in the deaths of 39 civilians.

According to the IDF, 61 soldiers and reservists have died in cross-border skirmishes and in the ensuing ground operation launched in southern Lebanon in late September.

According to the Lebanese health ministry, over 2,800 people have been killed in Lebanon over the past year, with most of the deaths coming since the conflict escalated last month. The IDF estimates that more than 2,000 Hezbollah operatives have been killed in the conflict.

Egypt denies claims it took in explosives shipment for Israeli defense firm
[IsraelTimes) Military, state-run TV push back following court appeal from European Legal Support Center alleging ship with materiel for Elbit Systems docked at Alexandria

Egypt’s army on Thursday denied it assisted Israeli military operations after media reports that an Egyptian port received a shipment of explosives bound for an Israeli defense contractor.

"The Egyptian Armed Forces categorically deny what has been circulated on social media and suspicious accounts and what is being promoted about assisting Israel in its military operations in general and in detail," the army said in a statement.

Human rights lawyers on Wednesday filed a court appeal in Berlin seeking to block a 150-metric-ton shipment of military-grade explosives aboard German fat merchantman MV Kathrin which they said was for Elbit Systems, Israel’s biggest defense contractor.

LSEG data and vessel-tracking website Marine Traffic showed the MV Kathrin docked in Egypt’s port at Alexandria on Monday.

Egypt’s state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV, citing a high-level source, said earlier there was no truth to reports by some media outlets that the MV Kathrin delivered military supplies for Israel to Alexandria.

The European Legal Support Center’s case argued the explosives could be used in munitions for Israel’s war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. , potentially contributing to alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Because of the explosives bound for Israel, the MV Kathrin was denied entry at several African and Mediterranean ports, including in Angola, Slovenia, Montenegro and Malta, according to the ELSC. It said Portuguese authorities recently required the ship to switch from a Portuguese flag to a German flag before it could continue.

Germany said the cargo was neither loaded nor dispatched from its territory thus did not require an export license.

IDF says it hit terrorists hiding in Gaza hospital, claims Hamas crumbling in Jabalia
[IsraelTimes] Military publishes video of former UNRWA employee telling interrogator Hamas looted refugee aid agency; COGAT figures said to show drop in aid entering Strip for October

Israeli forces struck a Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. hospital where it said "dozens of terrorists" had been found hiding out Thursday, as the military pushed an offensive in the north of the Strip, claiming regrouped terror cells in the city of Jabalia were falling apart.

There were no reports of any casualties at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya after an IDF strike hit the third floor of the building, though Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
-run health authorities in Gaza reported that at least 30 Paleostinians were killed in other attacks throughout the Strip, without clarifying how many were combatants.

The Israel Defense Forces said it was continuing to strike targets in Jabalia and elsewhere, releasing what it said was testimony from a United Nations
...where theory meets practice and practice loses...
worker testifying that Hamas members had raided aid supplies and used UN vehicles to move around.

Northern Gaza, where Israel said in January it had dismantled the terror group’s command structure, is currently the main focus of the IDF’s operations in the Paleostinian enclave. Earlier this month, it sent tanks into Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahiya to flush out terror operatives it said had regrouped in the area.

Eid Sabbah, director of nursing at Kamal Adwan, told Rooters some staff had suffered minor burns from the strike on the hospital.

The IDF said in a statement following Thursday’s strike that "during the operation, it was found that dozens of bandidos bandidos bully boys were hiding in the hospital, with some even posing as hospital staff."

Israeli forces who raided the hospital last week captured around 100 suspected Hamas operatives, the IDF said at the time.

Medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) said on Thursday that one of its doctors at the hospital, Mohammed Obeid, were tossed into the calaboose last Saturday by Israeli forces. It called for the protection of him and all medical staff who "are facing horrific violence as they try to provide care."
How many of MSF’s precious medical staffers are double dipping on the Hamas payroll?
Israel maintains that its military campaign takes pains to avoid casualties among civilians and aid workers, blaming the Hamas terror group for using innocent Gazooks and international aid organizations as cover, putting them in the line of fire.

In a video published by the army’s public affairs arm Thursday, a Jabalia man described as a former security guard for UNRWA, the UN agency for Paleostinian refugees, tells an Israeli interrogator that following the outbreak of the war on October 7, 2023, Hamas members came into an UNRWA facility and "took everything" by force.

The man said that Hamas members brazenly looted trucks loaded with "supplies," and then commandeered the UNRWA vehicles as well, using them as a shield.

"It’s a form of defense for them, so they can move around easily, transport and get things et cetera," the man said, according to a translation provided by the military.

The army said Thursday that its raids in Jabalia had netted arrests of hundreds of suspected terrorists, including some accused of taking part in the October 7 massacre.
Good.
It added that dozens of civilians evacuating south out of Jabalia had testified that they had been pressured and even threatened by Hamas to stay in the area, which the army claimed harbors a "high concentration of bandidos bandidos bully boys from Hamas and other terror organizations."

"The surrender of bandidos bandidos bully boys and their attempts to move south as a result of military pressure testifies to the breaking of the terror stronghold of Jabalia," the IDF said.

The army announced Thursday that a soldier with the Givati Brigade’s Rotem Battalion was seriously maimed during operations in northern Gaza. He was taken to a hospital in Israel for treatment.

In central Gaza, meanwhile, the military said on Thursday that troops destroyed a site used for the production of munitions.

AID REPORTED DOWN
Given that so many tens of thousands have moved south, thee are considerably fewer mouths to feed.
US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller
…who clearly wants it understood that he does not approve of that shitty little country, Israel…
said on Wednesday that since the US sent a letter to Israel on October 13 warning that continued security assistance was at risk if it didn’t take significant steps to improve the humanitarian crisis in Gaza within 30 days, the measures Jerusalem has taken have been minor and insufficient.

While there has been some improvement in the number of delivery routes to aid, the uptick has been minor and the humanitarian "situation still remains at a level that we don’t find acceptable," Miller said.

He said there continue to be breakdowns in communications between the IDF and aid agencies and issues in which approvals aren’t granted by the IDF for aid workers to operate throughout Gaza, or issues where authorizations are given but they aren’t transmitted to officers on the ground. There are also still Paleostinian armed gangs that have been looting some of the aid coming into Gaza, Miller said.

Citing figures from COGAT, the Israeli military body responsible for facilitating the delivery of aid into Gaza, Haaretz revealed Thursday that the amount of aid in tons that entered the Strip during the month of October was the least this year.

Illegal migrant arrested for allegedly raping 5-year-old girl on Long Island: cops
[NY Post] An illegal migrant who failed to appear at his immigration hearing after being cut loose at the border has been arrested for allegedly raping a 5-year-old girl on Long Island, police said.

Wilson Castillo Diaz, 26, is accused of attacking the little girl on Oct. 16, according to Nassau County cops.

Details of the alleged rape — including Diaz’s relationship with the girl and where it occurred — weren’t immediately available.
"She was dressed provocatively!"
The child was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation after the alleged attack, police said.

Diaz, who was living in Westbury, had illegally crossed into the US near Rio Grande, Texas, in April 2014, according to cops.

He was taken into custody by US border agents but later cut loose after being served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge.

Diaz failed to appear at his immigration court hearing, according to cops.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has already been notified of his recent arrest, police said, without saying which country the suspect was originally from.

Diaz was arraigned last Wednesday on a slew of charges, including rape, attempted rape and endangering the welfare of a child.

Tents replace some North Carolina polling places that were destroyed by Helene
Seven tents have been erected in four of the most devastated counties in North Carolina: Buncombe, Burke, Haywood and Yancey. They'll be used on Election Day.

Early voting is underway in North Carolina, and the state is making it easier for people impacted by Hurricane Helene to cast their ballot.

After so many towns and roads were washed away by Helene's flooding and mudslides in Western North Carolina, state officials decided to erect tents to act as polling places for Tuesday's election.

Seven tents have been erected in four of the most devastated counties in North Carolina: Buncombe, Burke, Haywood and Yancey. Four tents are in place in Yancey County, while Buncombe, Burke and Haywood counties have one tent each.

The tents are meant to replace polling sites that were damaged or destroyed in Helene, according to Patrick Gannon of the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

Gannon said the tents are powered by generators, and are monitored 24/7 to ensure the voting equipment inside is secure. Inside the tent, voters will find walls and lighting, as well as portable bathrooms, handwashing stations, tables and chairs.

He said 25 Western North Carolina counties were given flexibility under North Carolina law to adjust early voting sites and Election Day polling places to serve their voters in the aftermath of Helene.

FOX News Multimedia Reporter Chelsea Torres visited the polling tent in Black Mountain, in Buncombe County. Torres said voters in the area are grateful another option has opened up for them to go vote.

Torres said voting equipment at the Black Mountain location will arrive on Monday, just in time for Tuesday's election.

New Report Suggests "Whale Psychiatrist" Trump May be Right About Wind Farms and Whales
[LI] Joe Rogan’s interview with President Donald Trump certainly covered a wide-range of topics.

While my colleague Mike LaChance discussed the interview, as the podcast touched upon the subject of whale deaths associated with offshore wind farm construction, I thought I would chime in here.

I have noted the spate of whale deaths recorded along the East Coast. At one point, New Jersey Republicans demanded that construction on offshore wind farm projects be halted for up to 60 days to see if it reduced the number of whales washing up dead.

The moratorium did not go through. In fact, Federal authorities approved the construction of up to 195 wind turbines off New Jersey’s coast in July of this year.

With this in mind, let’s focus on "Donald Trump, Whale Psychiatrist".

Polling Nostradamus Nate Silver says others are lying about election forecasts
[MAIL] Nate Silver went into a tirade about how pollsters are lying to people about their results just days before the election.

Silver, the founder of poll analytics site FiveThirtyEight, was speaking on his podcast when he was asked what his models tell him will happen next Tuesday.

While he says it's a 55% chance Donald Trump wins vs. 45% for Kamala Harris, what pollsters have been doing in the run-up to the election has left him unsettled.

He claims that many surveys, including Emerson College, are doing something called 'herding' - or using existence poll results to impact new polls - to keep producing close polls with one candidate or the other up by one point

'In fact, I kind of trust pollsters less, they all, every time a pollster [says] 'Oh, every state is is just +1, every single state's a tie,' No! You're f***ing herding! You're cheating! You're cheating!'

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
The New Normal - Reflections on the start of a new school year
[Russ Roberts] If you’re a paid subscriber to "Listening to the Sirens," I donate to Shalem College
…Israel’s decade-old Great Books college modelled on St. John’s College with a Jewish twist. Oddly enough, Israel never had one of those before…
(where I’m the president) whatever you pay, multiplied by 1.25. So even though you don’t get the tax deduction, your gift is magnified as if you did. For those of you who are paying, and for those of you who aren’t (just in case you might want to reconsider), I thought you might want to know a little bit more about Shalem and what we did this year. It’s been a roller coaster of a year. So many highs and so many lows. Looking back, here’s a glimpse of what we experienced and the start of a new year.

The college school year in Israel is dictated by the Jewish calendar and begins just after Simchat Torah, the last holiday of the fall holiday sequence. Last year that day was October 7th, what is now Israel’s day of infamy. Faculty Day, where we welcome faculty to a new year, scheduled for October 8th, didn’t happen. Orientation for the new entering students planned for October 9th didn’t happen.

You should know that the median age of our students is about 24. They come to us after their army service and usually after a gap year of travel. Some of our entering students are in their late 20s or even 30—they come to us after the longer training and service of officers. They come to us because they want to join a community of intellectually curious, intellectually serious people who want to live serious lives when they leave here. They are ambitious about making this country better. That’s our mission. To create the next generation of leadership for this small country that so desperately will need it once this war is over. To create smart, curious, thoughtful people who can speak respectfully to people who don’t agree with them and who learn how to think for themselves.

When the war broke out on October 7, about 60% of our students—about double the rate of other colleges here in Israel—were summoned to reserve duty, alongside 360,000 fellow reservists, some racing home from overseas to serve. Is there another army like this in the world? An army of not just 18 year olds who have been drafted, but a citizen army of reservists—students, fathers, mothers, and even some grandparents who can still fit into their uniforms and who come back to serve whether they are formally called up or not.

With 60% of our students missing, it was impossible to start the year.

We quickly learned that a number of our students, along with hundreds of others, knowing that something terrible had happened at the Gazan border, had headed for that border on October 7 to liberate the communities invaded by Hamas. They knew people were in danger and without hesitation or command, answered the call of duty and of conscience. One of our second-year students who headed south, Amir Sekori, fell in battle that day, leaving behind a wife and two young children. He was 31 years old. That same day, one of our faculty lost her grandson. As the war continued, one of our staff lost a nephew. One of our graduates lost her brother. One of our students lost his brother.

Police say ballot bombing suspect in Oregon, Washington could strike again, suspect description given
[PostMillennial] The unidentified ballot box bombing suspect in the Pacific Northwest could strike again, authorities warned. Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Mike Benner told news hounds during a Wednesday press brief: "Investigators believe it is very possible the suspect intends to continue these assassinations across the area."

Benner described the alleged suspect as a thin-faced white male between the ages of 30 and 40 years old with balding or very short hair, a medium to thin build, and was wearing dark clothing.
Could be an Antifa cadre…
Detectives believe the suspect has "a wealth of experience in metal fabrication and welding."
An interesting description. What could have triggered that?
Benner told news hounds case Sherlocks would be conducting a second presser later in the evening to provide more detailed information on the alleged suspect.

The briefing came in response to Monday's arson attacks, in which a suspect set fire by igniting incendiary devices to electoral ballot drop boxes in Portland, Oregon, and the neighboring city of Vancouver, Washington, just days before the highly anticipated US Presidential election.

Nearly 500 ballots were burned at the Vancouver bombing site located at Fisher's Landing on 3510 SE 164th Ave, the Clark County Auditor's Office said. Only three ballots were lightly burned at the Portland bombing site, according to Multnomah County election officials, who credited the state's ballot boxes being equipped with dry chemical fire suppressant systems that activate in response to heat.

"It worked exactly as it was supposed to," Oregon Elections Director Tim Scott said. "As soon as there was heat, it discharged the contents and immediately put out the flames." Washington state ballot boxes also are equipped with fire suppressant systems, but it had failed to go off, officials said.

A holiday air travel reminder
[FoxBusiness] United Airlines passenger pummels another flier in ‘vicious,’ bloody attack. Everett Nelson targeted sleeping passenger on United Flight 2247 from San Francisco to Washington, DC, according to reports

A United Airlines passenger let out "blood-curdling screams" during a "vicious" attack by another flier on a San Francisco to Washington, D.C. flight this week, a witness says.

The airline tells FOX Business that "Thanks to the quick action of our crew and customers, one passenger was restrained after becoming physically aggressive toward another customer" onboard United Flight 2247 on Monday.

"He was just very violently and very aggressively just pummeling the guy who was in the window seat who was in front of me and it was vicious. This wasn't like a bar room, I'm going to throw a couple of punches around, I mean this was vicious," Sandhya Gupta told KGO following the incident.

The FBI says the suspect, Everett Nelson, was walking back to his seat after using the plane’s bathroom when he targeted the sleeping victim, according to the station.

"The next thing I know, I just hear these blood-curdling screams," Gupta said.

The attack reportedly ended when another passenger intervened.

"Basically kind of like wrapped this guy in sort of like a hug and the assailant just, it was the weirdest thing, he just went limp," Gupta told KGO. "This doctor was just like trying to stop the bleeding, his face was just a mess. It was awful. There was blood spatter on the window... and all that kind of stuff."

A United Airlines spokesperson told FOX Business that "The flight landed safely and was met by paramedics and local law enforcement."

There were 82 passengers onboard the aircraft and six crew members. The motive for the alleged assault is unclear.

"United Airlines Flight 2247 safely landed at Dulles International Airport in Virginia after the crew reported a passenger disturbance on Monday, Oct. 28 at 1:40 p.m. local time. The Boeing 737-900 departed San Francisco International Airport. The FAA will investigate," the Federal Aviation Administration told FOX Business in a statement.

University of Michigan student from China charged with illegally voting in US election
[PostMillennial] Although the ballot was illegally cast, the vote is still expected to be counted because the ballot cannot be retrieved by election officials once it is put into a tabulator.

A 19-year-old Chinese student at the University of Michigan, who is not a US citizen, is facing charges after allegedly voting on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office issued a joint statement confirming the charges against the unnamed student, who is legally present in the country but ineligible to vote as a non-citizen. The 19-year-old student reportedly registered to vote on Sunday and signed a document affirming US citizenship before submitting a ballot into a tabulator. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
he later contacted the local clerk’s office and asked if he could get his ballot back.

Although the ballot was illegally cast, the vote is still expected to be counted because the ballot cannot be retrieved by election officials once it is put into a tabulator, according to a report by The bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
News. The system is set up to prevent ballots from being traced back to an individual voter after they are cast.

"We’re grateful for the swift action of the clerk in this case, who took the appropriate steps and referred the case to law enforcement," a joint statement from the offices of Benson and Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit said. "We are also grateful to law enforcement for swiftly and thoroughly investigating this case."

"Anyone who attempts to vote illegally faces significant consequences, including but not limited to arrest and prosecution," the statement added.

The student is now facing charges of perjury for making a false statement on an affidavit to register to vote. The standard penalty for perjury is 15 years in prison. Additionally, the student is also being charged with being an unauthorized elector attempting to vote—a felony punishable by up to four years in prison and a $2,000 fine.

This incident comes as Michigan remains a pivotal battleground state in the upcoming election. Trump narrowly won Michigan in 2016 by less than 11,000 votes, while Biden captured the state in 2020 with a 3 percent margin or 154,188 votes. Current polling between Trump and Kamala Harris
What can be, unburdened by what has been
suggests the race could once again be highly competitive.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Supplying Israel with 30,000-pound bombs could deter Iran's nuclear threat
[Jpost] Strength, as in providing Israel with the means to destroy their nuclear program, is the best path to delay an Iranian atomic bomb, restore deterrence, and deescalate the conflict.
Which is why the Harris-Biden administration refuses to send the things.
A Wall Street Journal headline after Israel’s retaliatory strike on Iranian military facilities said, “Israel’s Strikes on Iran, While Measured, Push Region Deeper into a Dangerous Era… Direct conflict between the foes has reset rules of engagement.”

After two massive Iranian ballistic missile attacks and a restrained Israeli response, America is seeking to de-escalate the conflict and prevent a regional war.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin warned Iran not to “make the mistake of responding to Israel’s strikes.”

So, how could providing Israel with massive ordnance bombs (GBU-43/B or GBU-57) and the planes to deliver them lessen the risk of another Iranian ballistic missile attack and “reset the rules of engagement” for the better?”

It seems counter-intuitive, but if the United States provides Israel with the ability to penetrate Iran’s deeply buried nuclear facilities, Iran may be much more hesitant to respond to the Israeli attack on Iranian soil or move towards weaponization and complete a functioning atomic bomb.
Peace through greater firepower.
Why do American foreign policy strategists and the Biden administration dismiss this scenario? This is due to their assessment of the war between Israel and Iran through Western lenses, and their underestimation of the impact of revolutionary Shi’ite jihadist ideology on their strategies, responses, and actions.

Our experts would do well to listen to the former head of the US National Security Agency, Gen. H.R. McMaster, who spoke about the need to have strategic empathy and the ability to put themselves in the shoes of their adversary, “looking at issues from the perspective of others,” as a way to prevent wars.

When former supreme leader Khomeini said, “We shall export our revolution to the whole world. Until the cry ‘There is no god but Allah’ resounds over the whole world,” he meant it.

That remains the passion, mission, and creed of the Iranian Republic of Iran to this day.

The Israelis are a Western democratic nation swimming in a sea of authoritarian regimes, including one that has made it abundantly clear that its expansionist agenda includes the elimination of the Jewish state and its seven million Jewish inhabitants.

The State Department is unwilling to re-evaluate its misconstrued analysis of the nature of the Islamic Republic, as they are married to a narrative that says Iran will not choose ideology as its lodestar to guide its hegemonic ambitions and genocidal intentions.

SCARING THE SUPREME LEADER AND THE IRGC
However, regime change does scare the supreme leader and the IRGC, and they will react to dangers threatening the regime’s survival.

Giving Israel the means to imperil Iran’s nuclear program is one of the best ways, short of allowing an attack on their nuclear facilities, to slow their nuclear program, prevent a retaliatory ballistic missile attack on Israel, and deescalate the conflict.

What would Israel need to provide a credible threat to the Iranian nuclear program and deter Iran?

Transferring mothballed American B-52 bombers that can carry massive, deeply penetrating ordnance would be a good start.

Alternatively, Israel possesses C-130 Hercules transport planes and F-15i Ra’am (Thunder) aircraft, which could theoretically undergo retrofitting to carry 30,000-pound bombs.

Both the US and Israeli intelligence services have deeply penetrated Iran’s political and military structures.

This was best evidenced by Israel’s recent assassination of the Hamas leader Haniyeh in a Tehran safe house and the series of Iranian scientists targeted by Mossad over the last two decades.

The hope is that this level of intelligence would give enough warning if Iran races to a nuclear bomb, but the failure of intelligence to warn Israel or the US of the October 7, 2023, attack has shaken everyone’s confidence.

America must clearly communicate to Iran that any advancement in the weaponization of a nuclear device, including the development of neutron initiators, advanced computer modeling, increasing the quantity of uranium metal for an atomic weapon, or increasing stockpiles of enriched uranium beyond 20% enrichment, could serve as a trigger for a preemptive attack, provided Israel possesses the necessary weapons.

THE ANSWER FOR STABILITY IN THE MIDDLE EAST
This could create a more sustainable deterrence, leading to more stability in the Middle East.

Back in 2020, a bipartisan piece of legislation (H.R. 8733, United States-Israel Common Defense Authorization Act) asked the president to consider authorizing the transfer of massive bombs to Israel.

Democratic Representative Josh Gottheimer said it would “help ensure Israel’s QME in the region and secure both of our countries from the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran.”

This was co-sponsored by Republican Congressman Brian Mast, but the legislation died in the House without a vote.

A new Congress could resurrect this legislation and give the next president a new option to deter the Supreme Leader and the IRGC.

The Iranian “leopard won’t change its spots,” but its choices can be managed. In the past, Iran viewed American conciliatory actions, such as the failure to enforce sanctions, as a sign of weakness, appeasement, and an invitation for aggression.

Strength, as in providing Israel with the means to destroy their nuclear program, is the best path to delay an Iranian atomic bomb, restore deterrence, and deescalate the conflict.

Naval Warfare Doctrine lessons learned from the sinking of the Russian Cruiser Moskva in the Black Sea.
[YouTube] In April 2022, the Russian guided-missile cruiser Moskva, the flagship of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, sank following an engagement with Ukrainian forces. Ukraine reported striking the Moskva with two domestically developed R-360 Neptune anti-ship missiles while it was approximately 60 nautical miles off the coast of Odessa in the Black Sea. The Neptune missile, designed to evade radar and strike targets up to 280 kilometers away, successfully bypassed the ship’s defenses.

After the reported missile impact, the Moskva was severely damaged, and despite Russian attempts to stabilize and tow the ship to port, it ultimately sank. The incident marked one of the most high-profile losses of a naval asset in recent history and highlighted the evolving role of long-range anti-ship missiles in coastal defense strategies.

Boeing Union Endorses Latest Offer to End Crippling Strike
[Bloomberg via Yahoo] Boeing Co. and union leaders representing 33,000 striking workers reached a tentative agreement to end a lengthy labor dispute that’s crippling the company’s commercial airplane manufacturing.

The company’s latest proposal would boost wages by 38% over four years and give workers a $12,000 signing bonus if it’s approved, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers said in a statement.

IAM District 751 urged its members to accept the Boeing offer and end the strike, warning they risked losing gains they’ve made after weeks of collective bargaining. The union plans to hold a vote on the proposal on Nov. 4.

"In every negotiation and strike, there is a point where we have extracted everything that we can in bargaining and by withholding our labor," the union said late Thursday. "We are at that point now and risk a regressive or lesser offer in the future."

Boeing’s shares rose as much as 2.8% in after-hours trading. The stock had plunged 43% so far this year through the close of Thursday’s session.

The latest attempt to end the labor strife comes after 64% of members of IAM District 751 voted to reject Boeing’s third contract offer, which would’ve hiked wages by 35% over four years. Ratification would represent a critical win for new Chief Executive Officer Kelly Ortberg, clearing the way to move forward with plans to rebuild Boeing’s culture and improve the quality of work in its factories.

#1  ... clearing the way to move forward with plans to rebuild Boeing’s culture and improve the quality of work in its factories.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but Boeing's problems are workers doing a crappy job and executives making crappy decisions. Gonna be hard to get different results with the same people doing the same thing. Maybe if everyone had a mandatory monthly flight on the latest Boeing plane, it would give them all a sense of skin in the game.

Armed Forces of Ukraine announce stabilization in Toretsk
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent) Russians have been storming Toretsk for several months now.

The number of Russian artillery attacks are not decreasing, despite the smaller number of assaults, the Lugansk OTG noted.

Ukrainian military managed to stabilize the situation in Toretsk, Donetsk region. The enemy is not advancing, said Anastasia Bobovnikova, press secretary of the operational-tactical group (OTG) Lugansk, on the air of the telethon on Thursday, October 31.

"The enemy is not advancing in Toretsk either, the line of conflict has not changed for a long time. We have stabilized the situation thanks to the units that are stationed in Toretsk," she said.

At the same time, Bobovnikova noted that although the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not allowing the enemy to advance, the number of Russian shellings is not decreasing, despite the smaller number of assaults.

"The enemy uses both aviation and artillery. And we do not see a reduction in these resources," she said.

According to her, the enemy still remains on the eastern outskirts of Toretsk.

Let us recall that back in late July, information was spreading on social networks that Russian troops had allegedly "entered Toretsk" and that "fights were already underway in the city itself." But these statements were not true.

And in today's report, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported two enemy assaults in the Toretsk direction. Our soldiers gave a worthy rebuff. Now this direction is one of the calmest on the front.

The Linux Case: Why a Finn Millionaire Kicked Out Russian Developers
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Ivan Lizan

[REGNUM] At the end of October, Russian developers were banned from developing the Linux operating system kernel. Now Russians are cut off from developing the OS, which occupies 5% of the desktop market, 30% of the server market, and is used in a host of other devices - from routers to smartphones and portable gaming consoles.

The news shook the information space, as it became not only a striking example of discrimination based on nationality, but also a precedent when sanctions affect open source software, which until now was considered immune to politically motivated restrictions.

Globally, software is divided into two parts depending on the availability of its source code: closed and open.

Closed, or proprietary, software is subject to restrictions on the use, copying, and modification of the source code. A clear example is the Windows OS: you cannot distribute it as you wish, you do not have access to its source code, and you do not have the right to modify it. Such software is the property of the developer, who sets the rules for use.

Open source software can be freely used and modified. It appeared as a counterweight to proprietary software in the mid-1980s thanks to the American Richard Stallman, who united around himself in the NGO Free Software Foundation developers guided by the idea of creating free software, for the use of which you do not need to pay.

Regardless of the goals that open source developers are guided by, they still enter into legal relations with each other, automatically accepting the terms of the license. Those, in turn, come in several types.

Reciprocal - oblige the developer to distribute the modified program under the same conditions as the original. Such licenses include all types of GPL (General Public License), LGPL and AGPL.

Permissive — allow the creation of proprietary software based on the original program, but do not allow the author of the original code to control the fate of the modified version of the software. Permissive licenses include BSD (Berkeley Software Distribution License), MIT, and Apache.

Thus, open source software, in turn, is divided into two more types depending on the order: license - its use for free (distributed under mutual licenses) and Open Source (distributed under permissive licenses).

In the case of Linux and Russia, the GPL license is important. Now we need to figure out how Open Source developers interact with each other — the movement.

At the core is a repository — a cloud storage with project files containing the source code, which are usually GitLab or Launchpad portals. Contributors, i.e. participants in the Open Source movement, work with these files. They copy the repository for themselves, creating a fork (clone), and make their own changes to it that do not affect the main repository. The edits made to the fork are called commits. After that, contributors submit a pull request to the repository administrators — a request to merge their copy of the repository with its original. If the administration approves the request, the original repository is updated.

In the case of Linux, a large operating system with many variants, worked on by hundreds of different teams, there is an internal division of developers. Over the years, the most competent and responsible members of the community have been promoted to maintainers, allowing them to work with the operating system kernel. And at the head of the entire movement are three people: Linus Torvalds, Greg Kroah-Hartman and Huah Han.

And here, at the intersection of law and the internal hierarchy of Open Source developers, the inevitable bureaucracy arises in the form of the non-profit consortium The Linux Foundation.

LINUX FOUNDATION VS. RUSSIA
The consortium does not develop the operating system or its components, but promotes their development by coordinating and protecting community members, including providing them with legal services. The organization itself unites 130 corporations and thousands of individual members. Naturally, The Linux Foundation is a legal entity.

Thus, jurisprudence and corporate bureaucracy come into conflict with the interests of the Open Source community. In 2022, US President Joe Biden signed Executive Order 14,071, which prohibited Russians from developing or using GPL-licensed software created in the US. Formally, the order does not apply to all Russian citizens, but only to those who are either on the sanctions lists or work for companies included in the US Treasury's sanctions lists. However, the order only came into force on September 12, 2024 - companies had 90 days to comply with it.

The Linux Foundation did the only possible thing, taking into account the letter of Decree No. 14 071, by excluding from its ranks developers who were important to the entire community and who suffered because of their Russian citizenship and mailboxes in the RU domain zone. No one explained anything, no one was warned about anything.

Moreover, when a storm of indignation arose in the community, the Finn Linus Torvalds, whose father was a communist until 2014 and then became a nationalist, accompanied the removal of Russians with a specifically Russophobic comment.

"Okay, a bunch of Russian trolls are on their way out. It's pretty obvious why this change was made and it won't be reversed," Torvalds wrote, identifying 11 highly respected community members as trolls.

In essence, the consortium's management and the founding father of Linux, Linus Torvalds himself, did not have a choice between conflict with the US and preserving the principles of Open Source. But instead of a civilized farewell, Torvalds and company simply kicked out the Russians, who, out of pure enthusiasm, spent thousands of hours of their time creating the program on which dollar millionaire Torvalds is now promoting himself.

THE RUSSIANS ARE ALREADY HERE, THE CHINESE ARE NEXT
Overall, this story suggests several local and global conclusions.

Firstly, the United States has once again extended its national legislation to those areas that were previously not subject to any legal regulation, and in principle did not need such regulation.

Secondly, any formalized international projects managed by a legal entity or coordinated through an NPO are vulnerable to sanctions. Russia was expelled from hundreds of different organizations and associations after 2022, from medical associations to the Large Hadron Collider. If they could have been expelled from ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) without the collapse of the Internet — they definitely would have.

And the bureaucracy that imposes sanctions is indifferent to internal rules, goals, principles and hierarchy. Its interest is in inflicting maximum harm on the party that they designate as guilty.

At first, The Linux Foundation will suffer from this story only in terms of reputation - they will find someone to replace the 11 Russian maintainers. But now the Russians have been excluded, and tomorrow the Chinese will take their place. And then it will turn out that the development of various Linux forks is being carried out without exchanging changes and technologies due to sanctions and the stupidity of the main maintainers. And after some time, instead of one Linux Foundation, a couple more will appear - the number of forks will multiply, the differences between them will increase. Moreover, such an example already exists.

In 2019, the US banned Huawei from using Google services (GMS). At the time, it seemed like a fatal blow, but instead of dying, Huawei made its own services (HMS), including an app store. As a result, Huawei's Android fork, which differed from the original version only in its shell, evolved over five years into a separate operating system that has nothing in common with Android.

Now it's time to move on to the global trends that Linux fits into.

DEGLOBALIZATION IS PAINFUL AND EXPENSIVE
Due to the inertia of human thinking, the current round (it is neither the first nor the last) of deglobalization is perceived as a tragedy, especially when it comes to the digital sphere, which for decades was considered a space of freedom.

In reality, there was no such freedom, there were simply no reasons to tighten the screws. But after 2014, they appeared. First, it turned out that Russia needed to be forced into submission, and then China, which had set its sights on competing with the US in the high-tech sector. At that point, software and various digital services turned into weapons. And since IT is entirely based on American technologies, the US began to openly abuse sanctions.

At first, the stated goal was to cause damage to bring it into submission. With ZTE, which came under attack from Washington due to the supply of telecommunications equipment to Iran, it worked: the corporation paid a fine and replaced part of the board of directors. As a result, ZTE's position was greatly weakened.

But with Huawei, it didn’t work out: the initial blows, the deprivation of access to GMS and the ban on chip production in Taiwan were spread out over time, which allowed them to adapt and survive. At the same time, from 2019 to 2022, American companies sold chips to Huawei under general licenses. In 2022, Washington changed its approach and immediately began to strike hard.

But this did not help either. Having banned the sale of electronic design automation equipment to China in 2022, the United States faced the fact that China imported them — with the help of the same Huawei. The ban on the supply of lithographs, including to the world leader, the Dutch ASML, led first to a sharp increase in orders from China, and then to the strongest collapse of the company's shares in 26 years, dragging down the shares of other Asian high-tech brands. At the same time, China is working on import substitution of lithographs.

The beauty of globalization was the maximum possible division of labor, which allowed the development of technology and technology with minimal costs and the highest possible pace. If the development of the 16-nm process technology cost Taiwan's TSMC $1.1 billion, then for 3-nm they will spend $4-5 billion only on development and $15-20 billion on the construction of a new plant. Deglobalization will lead to a slowdown in the pace of progress and an increase in costs in already extremely expensive sectors of the economy.

With "software" the story is different. There is no need to build factories for it, but it is easier to ban it. However, it is possible to bypass bans, including through complete substitution - if there is a desire. And it will definitely appear, considering the Linux case and the behavior of Washington clerks together with Finnish millionaire-Russophobes.

#1  Russians have been prolific hackers since the dawn of the computer age, second only to the Chinese. We must be honest. However sympathetic I may be for the Russian cause in Ukraine, I trust Torvalds' judgement in this case.

What? You think I should convert my computer back to Windows? LOL.

European Southern Observatory Releases Image of Dark Wolf Nebula
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] On October 31, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) presented an image of a nebula dubbed the Dark Wolf Nebula because its silhouette resembles the figure of a predator. This was reported on the institution's portal.

The nebula was discovered in the constellation Scorpius and is located approximately 5,300 light years from Earth. It is noted that it is actually part of an even larger nebula called Gum 55. Its image was obtained using the VLT Survey Telescope (VST) at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. The picture was made up of images taken at different times, each of which was equipped with a filter that passed a different color. In total, about 500 million Milky Way objects were examined during the photometric study.

Nebulae are cold cosmic clouds that absorb visible light and allow only long-wavelength radiation to pass through. These objects are of interest to astronomers because they are often the birthplace of forming stars.

On July 13, Regnum News Agency reported that NASA's James Webb telescope captured two galaxies, NGC 2936 and NGC 2937, which together form a figure resembling a penguin with an egg. It is noted that the "egg" and "penguin" have been approaching each other for tens of millions of years and will eventually merge into one galaxy.

Spain: At Least 158 Dead Following Flash Flood
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

At least 158 people have died after torrential rainfall turned into a natural disaster in Valencia, Spain.

Local officials announced on Thursday that the continuous rain prompted one of the worst natural disasters that the country has faced in at least a decade.

Photographs have emerged from Valencia, Spain’s third most populous city, showing dozens of cars wedged atop one another after being carried by a wave of mud and debris into the narrow city streets.

“Unfortunately, there are dead people inside some vehicles,” said Transport Minister Óscar Puente.

Emergency services in the region of Valencia announced that the “provisional” death toll was now 158, and the “process of collecting and identifying victims continues.”

According to meteorologists, a year’s worth of rain fell in just eight hours in areas around the city. Emergency workers have begun searching for survivors that could be stranded in the area’s small towns and villages.

Additionally, over 1,000 soldiers have been deployed by the Spanish government in order to assist with the rescue operation.

According to reports, this is one of the worst natural disasters to hit Europe in years, rivaling deadly floods that killed 185 people in Germany back in 2021.

I wonder if nature flooded the new, man-made course or the original route. Or both.

IDF hits Hezbollah sites in Syria, warns Baalbek
[IsraelTimes] The IDF issued warnings for a second day running to residents of northeast Leb
...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...

s on Hezbollah sites.

"You are in a combat zone where the IDF intends to attack and target Hezbollah infrastructure, assets, installations and weapons, and does not intend to harm you," Col. Avichay Adraee said on X, attaching a map of the areas that will be targeted.

Dozens of cars could be seen speeding out of the area after Thursday’s warning, with wafts of black smoke still visible emanating from the town of Douris, where an Israeli strike the previous day destroyed Hezbollah fuel stocks, according to the Israeli military and a Lebanese security source.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported a strike on a cycle of violence rider in the Beqaa Valley, where Baalbek is located. A Lebanese security source told AFP that one person was killed by an Israeli dronezap on the Araya-Kahhale road, which links the capital Beirut to the eastern Beqaa Valley. The dronezap targeted a car, killing the driver, the source said, without identifying the victim.

Thousands fleeing the violence in Baalbek have sought shelter in the nearby Christian-majority town of Deir al-Ahmar, where local official Jean Fakhry said authorities were struggling to cover even a fraction of their needs and some people had to spend the night in their cars.

"We cannot continue this way," Fakhry said.

The killing of six Lebanese health workers and wounding of four others in three separate strikes across south Lebanon on Thursday brought the total toll of health workers killed and maimed in over a year of Israeli strikes to 178 and 279 respectively, the Lebanese health ministry said.
Are we quite, quite sure that none of the Lebanese health workers were not also on the Hezbollah payroll… or just catching a ride in an ambulance, like Hamas is wont to do?
The army also announced strikes on sites belonged to Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force and the terror group’s armament unit in Syria’s al-Qusayr region, near Lebanon’s northern border. The armament unit is responsible for storing weapons in Lebanon, and according to the IDF, it recently expanded its activities to Syria, where it stored weapons in al-Qusayr.

Elsewhere in Lebanon, an Israeli dronezap hit a cycle of violence near the coastal town of Naqoura, NNA reported.

The IDF said on Thursday that the commander of a Hezbollah anti-tank guided missile unit had been killed in a recent airstrike. According to the IDF, a strike carried out by fighter jets this week in the southern Lebanon village of Burj Qallawiyah killed Muhammad Khalil Alian. Alian was the commander of Hezbollah’s anti-tank array in the Hajjar regional unit, which is responsible for attacks on northern Israel’s Ramim Ridge region.

Meanwhile,
...back at the railroad tracks, Little Nell tried to kick her bound feet and scream post the snotty handkerchief Scarface Al had stuff into her mouth...
the IDF said a Wednesday dronezap in Mazraat al-Yahoudiyeh, just north of Tyre, killed a cell of Hezbollah members who launched a missile at an Israeli Air Force unmanned aerial vehicle, adding that the UAV was not harmed in the incident.
“Missed me! Missed me! Now ya gotta kiss me!”
The IAF released footage of the dronezap.

The strikes were carried out in tandem with the ongoing ground campaign in southern Lebanon, where the IDF’s 91st and 146th divisions are continuing to operate against Hezbollah.

Israeli attacks kill 45 in Lebanon in last 24 hours, health ministry says
[IsraelTimes] Israeli attacks killed 45 people in Lebanon in the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 2,865 since October 2023, the Lebanese health ministry says, without differentiating between civilians and combatants.

Lebanon’s official news agency says at least 10 strikes hit south Beirut
[IsraelTimes] At least 10 strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs at dawn, Lebanon’s official news agency says, after the Israeli army issued evacuation orders for buildings in the area.

AFPTV footage shows explosions followed by clouds of smoke that rang out in the city’s suburbs after the Israeli army ordered several buildings in Hezbollah’s stronghold to evacuate.

“The raids left massive destruction in the targeted areas, as dozens of buildings were leveled to the ground, in addition to the outbreak of fires,” the National News Agency (NNA) says.

Israeli warplanes carried out 10 raids targeting the suburban areas of Ghobeiry and Al-Kafaat, the Sayyed Hadi Highway, the vicinity of the Al-Mujtaba Complex, and the old airport road, it adds.

Trump sues CBS News for $10 billion alleging 'deceptive doctoring' of Harris' '60 Minutes' interview
[FoxNews] CBS practices 'news distortion' intended to 'confuse, deceive and mislead the public,' the lawsuit says

Former President Trump is suing CBS News for $10 billion in damages, stating the network practiced "deceptive conduct" for the purpose of election interference in its interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Fox News Digital exclusively obtained the lawsuit filed Thursday.

Trump attorneys said the complaint comes due to "CBS’ partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion calculated to confuse, deceive, and mislead the public."

Trump attorneys also argued the edits were done in an effort to "attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party as the heated 2024 Presidential Election — which President Trump is leading — approaches its conclusion."

"President Trump brings this action to redress the immense harm caused to him, to his campaign, and to tens of millions of citizens in Texas and across America by CBS’s deceptive broadcasting conduct," the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit comes after Trump’s attorneys wrote letters to CBS News demanding the network release the full transcript of the "60 Minutes" interview with Harris after it aired two different answers to the same question. Trump attorneys asked CBS to preserve all documents and communications related to the interview pending a potential legal battle.

CBS News refused to release the full transcript, citing the First Amendment, and rejected the assertion that it had "doctored" the Harris interview to mislead the American people. The network insisted that "the interview was not doctored" and that the program "did not hide any part of the vice president’s answer to the question at issue."

The lawsuit filed Thursday specifically references the exchange Harris had with "60 Minutes" correspondent Bill Whitaker. In a preview clip that aired on "Face the Nation," Harris was asked why it seemed like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn’t listening to the U.S.

"Well, Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region," Harris responded in the "Face the Nation" clip.

Harris was mocked by conservatives for offering a lengthy "word salad" to Whitaker. But when that same question aired the following night in the primetime election special, a shorter, more focused answer from the vice president followed.

"We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end," Harris said in the primetime special.

Critics accused CBS News of editing Harris' "word salad" answer to shield the vice president from further backlash, and there have been growing calls for the network to release the full transcript after it only shared transcripts of what had aired.

"To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news," the lawsuit states.

Trump lawyers argue that news organizations "are responsible for accurately representing the truth of events, not distorting an interview to try and falsely make their preferred candidate appear coherent and decisive, which Kamala most certainly is not."

"Due to CBS’ actions, the public could not distinguish which Kamala they saw in the Interview: the candidate or the actual puppet of a behind-the-scenes editor," the lawsuit states, noting that Whitaker’s question "was of the utmost public significance — U.S. foreign policy on the matter of the Israel/Gaza war — at a time of immense importance, mere weeks before the most critical presidential election in American history."

Trump is demanding a jury trial and at least $10 billion in damages for CBS’ alleged "ongoing false, misleading, and deceptive acts; the attorneys’ fees and costs associated with this action; and such other relief as the court deems just and proper."

CBS News did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Catholic hospital apologizes for sending bleeding mom home with a bucket when she miscarried twins
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] A Catholic California hospital has agreed to revisit training and education after the State sued the facility, alleging that its practitioners denied a woman an emergency abortion.

Anna Nusslock, 36, claimed doctors at the Catholic-affiliated Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka sent her home, bloodied, as she miscarried, offering her nothing other than a bucket and towel.

The expecting mother alleged that doctors responsible for her care denied an emergency abortion after her water prematurely broke, leaving her vulnerable to infection and other complications.

Nusslock was just 15 weeks pregnant with twins when doctors told her the babies would no longer be viable and if her pregnancies were not terminated she could risk hemorrhaging, or developing an infection that could negatively impact her future fertility.

But, because doctors reportedly detected fetal heartbeats, the Catholic hospital turned to their own policy - which states that the hospital could not perform an abortion unless the patient's life was at risk.

Catholic hospitals restrict reproductive health care because of their following of the church’s 'Ethical and Religious Directives'.

Yet, according to the Cleveland Clinic, fetal tissue remaining in the uterus can cause 'infection, which can damage your reproductive organs or even cause dangerous complications like sepsis when left untreated.'

Denied care, Nusslock and her husband then drove to Mad River Community Hospital, 12 miles away. On the unimaginable, blood-riddled ride, the now-grieving mother expelled one of the fetuses.

She arrived at the Arcata hospital in distress before medical professionals had to perform an emergency procedure to remove the other unborn fetus.

On September 30 the State of California filed a lawsuit against the Eureka hospital, alleging that it violated state law mandating hospitals with emergency centers to provide care to prevent 'serious injury, illness and death.'

The suit alleges that 'instead of providing the emergency medical care she needed, Providence Hospital offered her a bucket and towels.'

If that wasn't enough, additional details were expunged in the September suit including that the Providence doctor advised Nusslock to be helicoptered to University of California, San Francisco Medical Center for treatment.

But when she brought up the unfathomable $40,000 cost, the suit states her doctor told her: 'If you try to drive, you will hemorrhage and die before you get to a place that can help you.'

The hospital has since responded to Nusslock's traumatic experience issuing a statement in a Facebook post, signed by its Chief Executive, Garry Olney.

'As you have likely heard, yesterday we learned that the California attorney general filed a lawsuit alleging that we denied emergency care to a pregnant patient in Humboldt County earlier this year,' the post reads.

'We are heartbroken over the experience this patient had while in our care and reached out to her today in an effort to express our profound apologies.'

The hospital Nusslock ultimately did receive potentially life-saving care at, Mad River, will soon close its labor and delivery department - leaving even fewer options for those who find themselves needing care.

Providence will then be the only hospital within an 85-mile radius to offer labor and delivery, according to a KFF Health News analysis.

This case brings about a larger issue plaguing women as it illustrates a profound loophole in California's state law that allows Catholic-affiliated hospitals to instead follow their religious directives.

In California, 56 hospitals have shuttered their maternity wards in the past 12 years, according to an investigation by CalMatters, The 19th News reported.

Meanwhile, nationwide, at least 267 hospitals closed labor and delivery units between 2011 and 2021, representing about 5 percent of the country’s hospitals, according to Chartis, a health analytics and consulting firm.

LA erupted into chaos following Dodgers’ World Series victory
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] Wait for the election!

At least a dozen people were arrested as Los Angeles descended into chaos Wednesday night after the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the World Series — with belligerent baseball fans setting fire to a bus while others clashed with cops and looters ran amok.

Six people were arrested for commercial burglary, four for receiving stolen property, and two for failure to disperse, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The LAPD shared footage of a mob of looters running in and out of a boarded-up Nike store carrying merchandise and throwing it into cars parked outside the store about four miles from Dodger Stadium just after 11 p.m.

Elsewhere, footage from the wild chaos captured a man covered in blue paint on his hands and knees frantically scrawling a message on a sidewalk ahead of an advancing crowd of police. That blue guy scurried away, but another man was caught up in the brigade of cops and dragged by his backpack for a block as officers in riot-gear dispersed the mayhem, according to the footage captured by journalist Sean Beckner-Carmitchel.

The LAPD said it was “aware of the looting” and has made arrests but did not disclose how many suspects were taken into custody.

The department also shared that “several businesses” were looted and multiple properties were “vandalized” during the “violent celebrations” across the city.

Aerial footage from ABC 7 Los Angeles shows dozens of looters calmly walking into and leaving a Nike store with boxes of goods without police interference. As looters ransacked businesses, other areas of downtown Los Angeles were plunged into madness.

The LAPD said a “hostile crowd” — estimated at between 200 and 300 people — lit an MTA bus on fire about a mile from Dodger Stadium around 12:35 a.m. local time. Footage posted to Citizen captured the moment a massive crowd — the majority of whom were wearing Dodgers jerseys and apparel — surrounded and sat atop the graffiti-laced bus. Members of the crowd were caught on video entering the bus, while others were seen holding up Dodgers flags and taking pictures.

Emergency responders arrived at about 12:45 a.m. local time, monitored the bus fire, and protected nearby structures from potential spread.

A video posted by @FilmThePoliceLA shows fireworks being set off inside the bus as the crowd shouts in excitement. Another showed the bus fully engulfed in flames and spewing out thick, black smoke while police in riot gear set up a perimeter to keep back the crowd.

“Let’s go, Dodgers!” the crowd shouted over the sounds of helicopters and police sirens.

The bus then appeared to explode and shot flames into the air.

The LAPD also reported that officers trying to disperse the rowdy crowd were being pelted with rocks, bottles and fireworks from a malicious crowd around where the looting was taking place.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass warned citizens that “violence will not be tolerated” as the city celebrates the Dodgers besting the Yankees during Game 5 in New York, according to Fox 11 Los Angeles.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia clamps down on its independent press
Infuriating.

What a shameless and cowardly act by the government of Russia to require its blogosphere to provide personal information to the government.

Bastards.

Not really surprising though, surely.
[PGPlaw] A law has been passed obliging bloggers who have an audience of more 10,000 users to report information about themselves to Roskomnadzor.

Pepeliaev Group advises that, on 30 July 2024, the State Duma (the lower chamber of Russia’s Parliament) passed in its third reading Law No. 647048-8 “On amending the Federal Law “On communications” and certain legislative instruments of the Russian Federation” (the ‘Law”). The Law provides for amendments to be made to particular federal laws, including Federal Law No. 149-FZ “On information, information technologies and the protection of information” and Federal Law No. 38-FZ “On advertising”.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BLOGGERS
1. The Law introduces amendments to article 106 of the Federal Law “On information” (“On the specific aspects of how information is distributed on social networks”) which is proposed to be supplemented with the following provisions: if the audience of a blogger’s personal webpage is over 10,000 users of a social network, the blogger must submit to Roskomnadzor (the Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and the Mass Media) information that allows for him or her to be identified. The Russian Government will establish the composition of such information and how it should be submitted.

Currently, there are no clarifications as to what an “audience” will mean and how the volume of the audience will be determined (for example, by the number of subscribers or the number of views of the content on a personal webpage). It is also unclear whether the requirements of the Law extend to companies’ corporate webpages on social networks.

We believe that, for the purposes of the Law, “social networks” may mean resources that have been included in Roskomnadzor's Register of social networks. These include, among others, Telegram, VKontakte, YouTube, Rutube, or Dzen. However, there are no official clarifications on this matter either.

The Law’s provisions concerning a blogger submitting his or her information to Roskomnadzor (para 3 of article 3(2)(b) of the Law) come into effect on the date on which the Law is officially published.

2. A blogger whose personal webpage has an audience exceeding 10,000 users must not allow for the subsequent distribution (reposting) on his/her webpage of information posted on another blogger's personal webpage which has not been included in the special register of bloggers that Roskomnadzor will maintain. This requirement (para 4 of article 3(2)(b) of the Law) comes into effect on 1 January 2025.

In particular, Roskomnadzor will maintain a list of personal webpages whose audience exceeds 10,000 users (the “List”). This means that the List will include personal webpages of bloggers who simultaneously:

  • meet the above criteria (i.e. they have submitted information to Roskomnadzor regarding themselves, and they do not repost information from other bloggers’ pages, which, in turn, have not been included in the List);

  • do not disseminate information in violation of the requirements of Russian legislation or information that is prohibited from being disseminated in Russia.

The second requirement is extremely broad and requires a blogger to thoroughly evaluate all information that he/she disseminates on his/her webpage in terms of whether it complies with Russian legislation.

'Like March 2022': Russian army liberates Donbass at record pace
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Sergey Adamov

[REGNUM] The Russian army is close to achieving one of the goals of the SVO - the complete liberation of Donbas. Ukrainian troops are forced to retreat along the entire line of contact, while the Russian Armed Forces are increasing the pace of the offensive that began a year ago.

In the fall of 2023, the decisive assault on Avdeevka, the last major fortified area of the Ukrainian Armed Forces located in close proximity to Donetsk, began. With the fall of the city and the retreat, Ukrainian troops were unable to organize a stable line of defense. The defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was consistently broken through along the Durnaya and Vovchya rivers, as well as along the so-called "Poroshenko Line" - a system of fortifications created back in 2015.

By the beginning of autumn 2024, the pace of the Russian troops' advance had increased: in September-October, the Russian Armed Forces occupied more territory than in the whole of 2023. Moreover, in the last week of October, the Russian army took control of the largest area of territory in the entire period of military operations, reports the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

In addition, analysts note that in August 2024, the Russian army took control of 478 square kilometers in Donbas. Such a pace of advance was last recorded in March 2022.

As a result, Ukrainian troops retreated to the city of Pokrovsk, trying to organize defense in its suburbs - the villages of Novogrodovka, Grodovka, Selidovo and Ukrainsk. However, again unsuccessfully. Now the Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing for a battle for Pokrovsk itself - their last stronghold in the western part of Donbas.

According to the latest information, engineering equipment is being brought into the Pokrovsk area, Ukrainian troops are digging trenches, blocking city streets with minefields and "dragon's teeth". At the same time, the Russian army can bypass the city and cut the enemy's defense into separate fragments.

"In Avdeevka and other areas, we do not give them the opportunity to create a monolithic defense. As a rule, the Ukrainian Armed Forces fortify themselves in industrial zones and urban areas, but we do not storm them head-on, but rather we wedge ourselves into weak spots at the junction of fortified areas and force them to retreat. This tactic has been well-developed and can be used in the future," an informed source in the region told Regnum.

Success in the Avdeevka-Pokrovsk direction predictably led to the Ukrainian troops also leaving Ugledar, a city that allowed the Ukrainian Armed Forces to maintain control over a large area of territory southwest of Donetsk.

In general, Ukrainian troops are now less and less likely to cling to populated areas and are increasingly rolling back without offering serious resistance.

According to Ukrainian media, in light of the recent failures, the Ukrainian Armed Forces Command “recommended” the military not to use the words “retreat,” “withdrawal,” or the expressions “the enemy has wedged in” or “we had to abandon our positions” when speaking to the media. Instead, the military is being asked to talk only about successes, “stabilization” of the front line, and counterattacks.

However, it cannot be said that over the past months the Ukrainian Armed Forces have tried to counterattack only in the press.

KURSK ADVENTURE
In August, the Ukrainian Armed Forces command decided on a risky offensive and opening a new front in the Kursk region. Ukrainian troops entered the territory of the Sudzhansky district and tried to occupy the largest possible area as quickly as possible.

Elite units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were involved in this operation, including units of marines and airborne troops, equipped with the best Western-made armored vehicles: Leopard 2 tanks, Stryker and Bradley armored vehicles, and other equipment.

However, the breakthrough was quickly stopped, after which Russian troops began to push the enemy out of the Kursk region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces miscalculated by relying on weapons supplied by NATO countries, military expert Alexander Mikhailovsky told the Regnum news agency.

"As we can see, Kiev's bet on a miracle weapon did not work out again. The wheeled armored vehicles sent to the Kursk region turned out to be too heavy for off-road conditions and were unable to maneuver actively. As a result, the advancing forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were left without armored support, and the breakthrough was stopped. So Kiev will be wary of planning such operations in the border area or on the line of combat contact in the future," the expert is sure.

The F-16 fighters transferred to Kyiv, which were planned to be used to gain dominance in the skies, and in the future - to strike at Russian territory, did not bring success to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. F-16s did not appear near the front, moreover, it is known that one of the fighters crashed "for technical reasons."

As a result, the few American-made aircraft were relocated to airfields in the western regions of the country - away from Russian fighters and air defense systems.

During the raid into the Kursk region, Ukrainian troops suffered heavy losses among motivated and qualified soldiers, Mikhailovsky notes. Kyiv had kept these forces in reserve since the spring of 2024, intending to use them in a counteroffensive in one of the critical areas. As a result, the front in Donbass was left without support and, as expected, began to collapse.

WHAT AFTER DONBASS
If we leave aside the operation in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, after the loss of Avdiivka, did not make a single serious attempt to turn the situation at the front in their favor.

At various times, it was assumed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces could either try to break through again in the Zaporizhzhya direction, or try to attack in the north of the LPR, or counterattack Russian troops advancing from Avdiivka.

But the reserves for the offensive, formed in the spring and summer of 2024, were lost in the Kursk region or scattered across separate sections of the front. Kyiv was unable to create a powerful strike force. With the arrival of autumn rains and muddy roads, Ukrainian troops will lose their last opportunity to counterattack - until the spring of next year. At the same time, the Russian army, of course, will not wait for the weather to give Kyiv the opportunity to attack.

"In strategic terms, we see a complete loss of initiative by Ukrainian troops. Attempts to turn the situation to their advantage have failed, counterattacks in Donbass are being repelled with losses for the enemy. The current situation for Kiev can be described as a systemic crisis. Not a collapse yet, but somewhere close," believes Alexander Mikhailovsky.

He notes that in recent weeks, Kyiv has launched another wave of mobilization, which has caused a storm of discontent in Ukrainian society and the media. In response, the Ukrainian leadership has introduced criminal penalties for documenting cases of the use of force by the military, catching recruits on the streets, in shopping malls and other public places.

But, the source of IA Regnum adds, even if mobilization allows for the necessary number of recruits, they will be able to go to the front in a month at best. By that time, reinforcements may simply be late.

Foreign media outlets also report on the grave situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, according to which Kyiv is beginning to prepare the Zaporizhzhya and Dnipropetrovsk regions for defense. Pokrovsk and the large Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration are still under the control of Ukrainian troops in Donbass. However, given the trends of the last year, the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not be able to hold this last line of defense.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Trump told Netanyahu he wants Gaza war over by time he enters office ‐ [anonymous] sources
[IsraelTimes] Republican nominee has repeatedly called for Israel to end war quickly, but ex-Trump aide and Israeli official are first to reveal that the request has a timeline attached.
One of the ex-Trump aides who loves him or one of those who loathes him? Whether we believe this claim depends on who is making it.
Former US president Donald Trump has told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he wants Israel to wrap up the war in Gaza by the time he returns to office if he wins the election, two sources familiar with the matter revealed to The Times of Israel this week.
Woo hoo! Ring the bell, guys, we’ve got us an EXCLUSIVE!
The message was first conveyed when the Republican presidential nominee hosted the Israeli premier at his Florida Mar-a-Lago resort in July, according to a former Trump administration official and an Israeli official.

While Trump has publicly confirmed having told Netanyahu that he wants Israel to win the war quickly, the sources speaking to The Times of Israel are the first to reveal that a timeline was attached to that request.

The former US official stressed that Trump wasn’t specific in his appeal to Netanyahu and could well back “residual” IDF activity in Gaza, so long as Jerusalem has officially ended the war.

Netanyahu has long stressed that Israel will maintain overriding security control of Gaza for the foreseeable future after the war, and other Israeli officials have spoken about the IDF maintaining a buffer zone inside the Strip while regularly re-entering areas throughout the enclave when it detects Hamas trying to regroup.

But the prime minister indicated on Monday that Israel is not yet at the conflict wrap-up stage, telling Likud MKs in a quickly leaked recording from a faction meeting that he cannot agree to Hamas’s demand to end the war in exchange for the 101 hostages it still holds.

Trump in recent weeks has indicated that he’d give Israel freer reign to make decisions, slamming US President Joe Biden for trying to restrict the potential targets of Jerusalem’s retaliation to Iran’s October 1 ballistic missile attack.

The former US official clarified that the pre-inauguration day victory that Trump wants Israel to secure in Gaza also includes the return of the hostages.

Trump, himself, warned at the Republican National Convention in July that those holding American hostages abroad will “pay a very big price” if they aren’t released before he assumes office.

The Trump campaign and Netanyahu’s office did not respond to requests for comment.

Trump and Netanyahu have spoken several times since their July Mar-a-Lago meeting, and Trump said last week that the prime minister had just called him two days in a row.

Earlier this month, two senior Israeli officials told The Times of Israel that they were concerned about Trump’s repeated calls for Israel to end the Gaza war quickly, fearing an inability to do so will lead to a clash if the former US president wins next week’s election and returns to office in January.

“There are internal political constraints to ending the war quickly,” one of the Israeli officials from the security establishment said at the time.

While declining to elaborate, he appeared to refer to the makeup of Netanyahu’s coalition, which includes far-right elements who have opposed hostage deal proposals conditioned on a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

There is also near-unanimity within the Netanyahu government against allowing the Palestinian Authority to play a role in the governance of Gaza. A second Israeli official said this has contributed to the war dragging on, as Jerusalem struggles to find a viable alternative to fill the power vacuum in Gaza, thereby allowing Hamas to regain its footing in areas where the IDF has left.

A lawmaker from the opposition — also speaking on condition of anonymity — acknowledged that dragging out the war through the January 20 inauguration would also sour relations with Vice President Kamala Harris, if she were to win in November.

However, “Netanyahu has managed clashes with Democratic presidents without paying a heavy price. In fact, he campaigns on his ability to stand up to them,” the lawmaker said.

“A fight with Trump is something he hasn’t really had to deal with, and I think it’s something he’d want to avoid, but [Finance Minister Bezalel] Smotrich and [National Security Minister Itamar] Ben Gvir may not let him,” the MK added, referring to the far-right cabinet ministers whose support the premier needs to remain in power.
Hmmmm…. both the former Trump official/aide and the Israeli are anonymous. So after all that, we can have no idea of the validity of the exclusive report. And the Israel Times dislikes both President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, making me skeptical in both directions.

#11  Trump...says we have to get Lebanon conflict over with

We are in "it depends on what the meaning of 'is' is" territory here. And let's not forget that this story has been passed through the Journalism Filter which makes everything more awful than it is.

Traditionally in the ME, getting a conflict over with meant kicking the can far enough down the road that the news cycle died down and everyone could get back to grifting. Having the Gaza war over makes life better for everyone in the neighborhood except Hamas and UNRWA.

Being a successful businessman implies Trump is a practical guy. Solving a problem once and for all is better than letting it fester eternally. Especially if someone else does the heavy lifting.

tl;dr: I interpret this story as Trump to told Netanyahu: Weapons Free!

Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: October 31, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 22:17 Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin announced that new military aid would be provided to Ukraine in the near future. He specified that "we are talking about artillery, air defense, armored vehicles, ammunition and other important weapons."

21:16 The United States has identified about 8,000 North Korean soldiers in the Kursk region who could take part in combat operations in the coming days, said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Overall, the US estimates that there are about 10,000 North Korean troops in Russia. "If these troops take part in combat operations or operations in support of combat operations against Ukraine, they will become legitimate military targets," Blinken emphasized.

17:29 Zelensky said in an interview with the South Korean TV channel KBS that after the DPRK troops enter the war, Ukraine may file a request for the arrest of Kim Jong-un in the International Criminal Court, as was done with Putin. He also said that Kiev will officially ask Seoul for military assistance - in particular, artillery, air defense systems, etc. According to the president, Putin is now checking how the West will react to the participation of DPRK troops in the war against Ukraine. If the reaction is weak, Moscow will attract even more North Korean troops, Zelensky predicts.

He also stressed that if Trump, if elected US President, wants to end the war by forcing Ukraine to cede its territories, he will not succeed. As for the Kursk operation, according to Zelensky, Ukraine is ready to use it to end the war, diplomatic steps or military tactical steps on the battlefield, if it has an influential effect.

16:48 The first point of the internal "strengthening plan" that Zelensky recently ordered to be developed is the fight against disinformation, said the president's communications adviser Dmitry Lytvyn. "If people do not understand what is happening, or if partners do not understand Ukraine's position, then other points will be difficult to implement," Lytvyn explained. He added that the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Foreign Intelligence Service, and the Security Service of Ukraine will work on this point.

The second point, according to Litvin, is that "the state's activities should be understandable both for our people and for our partners." Litvin announced that the first draft of this plan could be presented in two weeks.

15:57 In Toretsk, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have stabilized the situation and are not allowing the Russians to advance, said Anastasia Bobovnovkova, spokesperson for the Luhansk operational-tactical group. At the same time, she added that the number of shellings is not decreasing, despite the smaller number of assaults.

14:24 In Kharkiv, the death toll from the Russian airstrike on a high-rise building at night has risen to three - rescuers have recovered the body of a 15-year-old teenager, the State Emergency Service reported. Another 36 people were injured, and rescue operations are ongoing.

13:41 In Kharkov, the death toll from the Russian airstrike on a multi-story building at night has risen to two - rescuers have recovered the body of the deceased, the State Emergency Service reported. Another 36 people were injured, and rescue operations are ongoing.

13:33 Norway's new €500 million aid package to Ukraine will include not only F-16s, but also NASAMS air defense systems, said Gennady Kovalenko, Director of the Defense Ministry's Department of International Defense Cooperation. In addition, according to him, Norway is ready to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry following Denmark's example.

12:06 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that a partnership agreement between Russia and Iran will be signed in the near future, and will confirm "the parties' desire for closer cooperation in the field of defense and interaction in the interests of peace and security at the regional and global levels."

12:02 Ukraine and Hungary are preparing a document on bilateral relations, which, in particular, will include a clause on joining NATO, Zelensky said. He clarified that Kyiv is asking Budapest not to block an invitation to the Alliance: "That is, not to support, not to vote for us, but not to block. Today, this clause is in our proposals, we would very much like Hungary not to block even such a clause. This is important for us."

11:34 The Russian army is preparing for an offensive in the Zaporizhia region and is conducting exercises with armored vehicles at one of the training grounds in the occupied territories, said Vladislav Voloshin, spokesman for the Southern Defense Forces. According to him, the Russians are planning to use this equipment in the areas of two populated areas.

11:25 Zelensky said that Ukraine had agreed with NATO to send planes to Poland so that it could hand over old MiG-29 fighters to Kiev, but Warsaw did not do so: "These are NATO planes. We really wanted to get MiGs from Poland, but they could not give them to us because they did not have enough of their own. Therefore, we agreed with NATO that they would provide them with a police mission, like our Baltic friends... And what after that? Did Poland give us planes? No. Was there another reason? Yes."

11:17 At night, Russians shelled Kramatorsk and Slavyansk in Donetsk Oblast, the heads of the city's military administrations, Oleksandr Goncharenko and Vadim Lyakh, reported. In Kramatorsk, the strike was aimed at the industrial zone, and in Slavyansk, at the administrative building of the Donfish Combine in the village of Mirny. In both cases, no one was hurt.

10:51 The General Staff claims that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have repelled enemy attacks on Myrolyubovka, Promin, Myrnohrad, Lysovka, Sukhoi Yar, Novogrodovka, Krutoi Yar, as well as Vyshneve and Selidovo in the Pokrovsk direction. OSINT analysts previously reported the capture of the latter two.

10:26 Syrsky reported that he discussed the situation at the front with the commander of the US Armed Forces in Europe Christopher Cavoli. According to Syrsky, the Russian army, taking advantage of its numerical advantage in personnel and equipment, continues intensive assault operations in several directions. Heavy, high-intensity battles are taking place along the entire front line.

09:39 "Authorities" of occupied Berdyansk in Zaporizhia Oblast have announced an attack by Ukrainian kamikaze drones on the port. Schools and kindergartens in the city will not work today, residents are asked to stay home. Gauleiter of the occupied part of Zaporizhia Oblast Yevhen Balitsky said that three people were injured in the attack.

09:24 In the Kherson region, over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, one person was killed and six were injured, reported the head of the OVA, Oleksandr Prokudin.

09:03 Five people were killed in Donetsk Oblast as a result of Russian shelling on October 30: two in Zarechnoye, one each in Druzhkovka, Berestki and Uspenovka. Three more people in the region were injured in the past 24 hours, said OVA head Vadim Filashkin.

08:50 On the evening of October 30, the Russian Armed Forces launched a strike on the Saltovsky district of Kharkiv. An air-dropped munition landed between the third and fourth floors of a nine-story residential building. According to the prosecutor's office, a 12-year-old child was killed and 35 more people were injured, including an 11-year-old child. According to preliminary information, the city was struck by a FAB-500. OVA chief Oleg Sinegubov reported that 14 apartment buildings were damaged as a result of the shelling.

In addition, the previous day, Russians shelled the village of Kucherivka in the Kupyansk region - one person was killed, one was wounded.

08:38 At night, Russians attacked the bridge across the Dniester estuary in Zatoka, Odessa Oblast, with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles and eight Kh-59/69 guided air missiles, two of which were shot down, the Air Force reported. The enemy also struck Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast, with two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles.

In addition, during the night attack, the Russian Federation used 43 drones - attack UAVs of the Shahed type and of an unspecified type. Of these, 17 were shot down in the Odessa, Kyiv, Cherkasy, Kirovograd, Kharkov, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Poltava regions. Another 23 drones were lost in location, three Russian UAVs flew in the direction of the Russian Federation and the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.

07:54 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of October 31:

  • personnel - about 694,950 (+1310) people,

  • tanks - 9156 (+19),

  • combat armored vehicles - 18,450 (+17),

  • artillery systems - 20,013 (+58),

  • MLRS - 1243 (+1),

  • air defense systems - 994 (+8),

  • aircraft - 369 (+0),

  • helicopters - 329 (+0),

  • Operational-tactical level UAVs - 18,063 (+84),

  • cruise missiles - 2627 (+2),

  • ships/boats - 28 (+0),

  • submarines - 1 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tank trucks - 27,961 (+121),

  • special equipment - 3570 (+3).

07:01 At night, Russia again attacked Kiev with drones, all of them were neutralized, said the head of the Kyiv State Air Defense Forces Sergey Popko. In the Podolsk district of the city, as a result of falling debris, a fire broke out in an open area, which was quickly extinguished. Windows in two two-story residential buildings and one administrative building were also damaged. A high-voltage power line was damaged, no information about casualties was received.

According to KGVA, the enemy attacked the capital with drones 20 times during October. Over the 31 days of the month, only one day was the alarm not declared in Kyiv. On average, sirens sounded in the city twice a day.

05:25 A DPRK military contingent of up to 12,000 people is undergoing training at five training grounds in the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. This contingent includes at least 500 officers from North Korea, including three generals from the General Staff, Ukraine's Permanent Representative Serhiy Kyslytsya said at a meeting of the UN Security Council. He also named the generals: Deputy Chief of the General Staff for Special Operations, Colonel General Kim Yong Bok; Deputy Chief of the General Staff - Chief of Intelligence Lee Chang Ho; Chief of the Main Operations Directorate, Major General Shin Ham Chol.

According to the Ukrainian diplomat, it is planned to subsequently form at least five units or formations from the DPRK military personnel, each with 2,000 to 3,000 servicemen. One such unit is equivalent to a motorized rifle regiment.

It is assumed that the DPRK servicemen will wear Russian uniforms and will be provided with Russian identification documents. According to Kislitsa, in order to conceal the presence of the DPRK servicemen, they will be integrated into Russian units staffed by representatives of ethnic minorities from the Asian part of the Russian Federation. Among them, for example, is the "special Buryat battalion" of the 11th separate airborne assault brigade of the Airborne Troops of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to Kislitsa, from October 23 to 28, at least seven aircraft transported up to 2,100 troops from the Eastern Military District to the Russian border with Ukraine. The number of North Korean soldiers expected to be transferred from the Primorsky Krai of the Russian Federation by the end of October could reach 4,500. They will likely begin direct participation in military operations against Ukraine as early as November, the permanent representative added.

01:39 Pyongyang sent its troops to Russia in exchange for technologies related to nuclear weapons, the development of intercontinental ballistic missiles, reconnaissance satellites and nuclear submarines, according to South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong.

00:06 Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState reports that the Russian army has occupied Selydove in Donetsk Oblast, as well as Vyshneve in Selydove urban community of Pokrovsky district and Zoryanoye in Maryinsky urban community of Pokrovsky district. In addition, the enemy has advanced near Novoukrainka, in Novodmitrovka and Kurakhovka in Donetsk Oblast.

Did Boston Dynamics Get Jealous After Spotlight On Tesla's Optimus Robot?
[ZeroHedge] Less than a day after Tesla CEO Elon Musk made bold claims at the Future Investment Initiative Conference in Saudi Arabia, touting big AI growth in the coming years, which is only suggestive of powerful tailwinds for his Optimus robot, Boston Dynamics—once the leader in viral humanoid robot videos—published a clip on YouTube on Wednesday morning showcasing its robot performing typical warehouse tasks usually carried out by workers in Amazon distribution centers.

Maybe a bit of jealousy is unfolding between Boston Dynamics and Musk's Optimus robot, which has received a lot of attention in October - from the "We, Robot" event on October 10 to Musk's comment at the event in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday:

"I think by 2040, probably there are more humanoid robots than there are people. Every country will have an AI or multiple AIs, and there will be a lot of robots, way more robots than people."

Back to the We, Robot event, where Musk said Optimus will cost less than $30,000 and forecasted that the humanoid robot will be the company's most popular product in the years ahead...

Maybe all this attention on Optimus provoked Boston Dynamics to release a video of its bipedal humanoid robot, Atlas.

Here's more from Boston Dynamics:

Atlas is autonomously moving engine covers between supplier containers and a mobile sequencing dolly. The robot receives as input a list of bin locations to move parts between.

Atlas uses a machine learning (ML) vision model to detect and localize the environment fixtures and individual bins [0:36]. The robot uses a specialized grasping policy and continuously estimates the state of manipulated objects to achieve the task.

There are no prescribed or teleoperated movements; all motions are generated autonomously online. The robot is able to detect and react to changes in the environment (e.g., moving fixtures) and action failures (e.g., failure to insert the cover, tripping, environment collisions [1:24]) using a combination of vision, force, and proprioceptive sensors.

Suppose robots and AI are forecasted to lead to millions of job losses in the years ahead. Then why did Democrats facilitate the greatest migrant invasion this nation has ever seen with low-skilled, unvetted illegal aliens when many of those jobs are likely to be automated away? Ah, yes, it's all about the votes.

Apropos, I think.

Computers learn at about 1 million times faster than we do and getting faster every day.

Germany: Manhunt After Explosives Left At Berlin Station
[MSN-DW] German police are looking for a man who left a bag of explosives at Berlin's Neukölln train station. A police search is underway on Thursday in the German capital, Berlin, after a man left a bag of explosives at a Berlin train station on Wednesday evening.

A police officer told the daily Berliner Zeitung that "it seems as if an attack has been prevented," as an explosion caused by the contents of the bag would have had "dramatic consequences" if it occurred near a group of people.

The man ran away after he was subjected to a check by police officers.

The bag was reportedly destroyed at a nearby car park in a controlled explosion.
Breitbart adds:
A man fled a police stop on the Berlin mass transit rail, dropping a bag as he fled containing over 17 ounces of a terrorist-favoured home made explosive.

Bomb squad officers discovered a drinks bottle wrapped in wire containing 500g (17½ ounces) of TATP explosives, along with a further quantity of cables and a believed stolen-in-2022 Polish citizen identity card.
Oh? So he could be a jihadi or a criminal. Let’s leave the story on Page 1: War on Terror until we have more information.
TATP is highly unstable and prone to exploding if handled roughly, suggesting the suspect in this case fleeing on foot and dropping a bag containing the explosive without it setting off was a lucky escape for pursuing officers and the wider public. What was said to be an attempted terror attack by a Ukrainian krazed killer in La Belle France earlier this year was averted, apparently at the last moment, after the would-be alleged perpetrator accidentally went kaboom! in an airport hotel room, it was reported at the time.
We know it here as Mother of Satan, which can be mixed up in the bathtub of your mother
The explosive has been used in terrorist attacks and in planned terror attacks again and again, but it is also known to be in use with robbery gangs blowing up cash machines.

Berlin’s Neukölln district has developed something of a reputation for crime. As previously reported of the neighbourhood:

well known for being both heavily migrant-settled and as being a centre of strength for German left-wing hard boys, who call themselves Antifa
...the armed wing of the Democratic Party...
Or he might be Antifa. So many exciting possibilities to ponder.
In some cases... violence in Neukölln manifests itself on strictly religious lines, and in others as cultural difference.

The area has become infamous to a certain degree recently, however, as migrant riots took place on New Year’s Eve into 2023, with widespread damage across the area. The way Germany responded to these events became a scandal itself, as broadcasters were accused of trying to cover up the violence, with the immigration background to the riots subject played down in reports.

Spain cancelled multimillion ammunition deal with Israel following media leak
More on this story from two days ago.
[Euractiv via Gates of Vienna] Spain is cancelling a €6.5 million contract with an Israeli military company to buy ammunition for the country’s militarised police, the Interior Ministry said after the case was revealed in the media.
So the Spanish deep state is perfectly happy to buy from Israel, it’s just the prime minister and his coterie. Good to know
Sources in the ministry, led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska (PSOE/S&D), said on Tuesday that other Israeli arms companies would also be excluded from future contracts with Madrid as long as the conflict in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
continues.

"The Spanish government maintains its commitment not to sell or buy arms to the Israeli state since the outbreak of the armed conflict in the territory of Gaza," a statement issued by the Interior Ministry reads.

The Interior Ministry's reaction comes after partners of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez (PSOE) asked the progressive executive to shed light on a contract to purchase ammunition for the Guardia Civil after the case was revealed by Cadena SER.

The controversial contract was awarded on 21 October by Madrid to Guardian Homeland Security SA for more than 15 million 9 x 19-millimetre Parabellum-NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
bullets.

As soon as the executive became aware of the award to the Israeli company, a process was quickly initiated to "terminate the contract with this company", government spokeswoman Pilar Alegría stressed on Tuesday.

"The Spanish government's commitment not to buy or sell arms to Israel remains intact," said Alegría, as reported by Spanish public broadcaster RTVE.

Both the left-wing Sumar platform, a junior partner in Sánchez's government, and its former ally Podemos, as well as other far-left parties, including Izquierda Unida, have urged the government to suspend arms sales to Israel, and some want Madrid to break diplomatic and trade relations with Tel Aviv.

Last weekend, Podemos Death Eaters voted internally to stop supporting Sánchez unless Madrid cuts ties with Israel.
