Raskambooni Clash Sparks Deep Divisions in Somali Federal Leadership
What they’ve been doing in Somalia while our attention was on Israel, Syria, and domestic American politics:
15-12-2024
[Garowe] A major rift has emerged among the top leadership of Somalia’s Federal Government following the recent festivities in Raskambooni. The incident saw Somali National Army (SNA) troops cross into Kenyan territory after being overwhelmed in battle, while others surrendered to Jubbaland forces.

The fallout from the defeat has led to accusations within the Federal Government. Somali National Army Chief of Staff Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh has directly blamed Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and the Commander of Ground Forces for the debacle. Gen. Odowaa has reportedly threatened to resign unless clear accountability is taken for what he described as a "catastrophic failure."

"This incident has inflicted severe damage on the reputation of the Somali National Army and eroded the trust that the international community had in us," Gen. Odowaa reportedly stated during a high-level meeting.

PRESIDENT HASSAN SHEIKH SCRAMBLES TO CONTAIN POLITICAL FALLOUT
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been holding extensive consultations with advisors and key political figures since returning to Mogadishu. The Raskambooni incident is said to have upended Villa Somalia’s political strategy, particularly its efforts to align Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohammed Islam (Madobe) with federal policies.

Neither Villa Somalia nor the Office of the Prime Minister has commented publicly on the Raskambooni incident. Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout Montefiore's foot was still stuck and the hound had completely soaked his uniform with slobber...
captured federal troops are being repatriated to Mogadishu, raising questions about the Federal Government’s handling of the situation.

INTERNATIONAL CONCERNS GROW OVER FEDERAL RESPONSE
The international community has expressed significant concern over the Federal Government’s management of the crisis. The U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Larry André, is expected to meet with President Mohamud in the coming days to address the incident, which has been described as a serious blow to the Federal Government’s credibility and its efforts to maintain international support.

Kenya to Send Back Over 600 Somali Soldiers Stranded After Raskamboni Defeat
15-12-2024
[Garowe] The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will repatriate more than 600 Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers stranded along the Kenya-Somalia border, just days after they lost the battle to claim Raskamboni, a strategic town in Jubaland.

After hours of intense fighting, the overwhelmed Somali troops retreated to the Kenya-Somalia border, where they sought refuge in a KDF Forward Operating Base, surrendering weapons as a result, multiple security sources confirmed.

Kenya's Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo confirmed the presence of SNA soldiers at a KDF base in Lamu County, just a few yards from Raskamboni, a strategic town we'll guarded by Kenyan troops and those from Jubaland.

“They laid down their arms. We are now working on how to take them back home," Omollo said, adding that Kenya respects existing mutual and bilateral relations with the government of Somalia.

Trouble began when SNA forces from the elite Gorgor contingent attacked a base controlled by Jubaland while provoking Kismayo in pursuit of the removal of Ahmed Islam Mohamed Madobe from power, after winning his third consecutive term as a regional leader.

Jubaland claimed control of the town, with reports of ten federal soldiers killed after heavy clashes, forcing the government of Somalia to withdraw the soldiers with some taking refuge in the KDF base. Somalia's government warned that legal actions will be taken against those involved.

Somali Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala alleged, “There is clear evidence that Al-Shabaab played a consequential role in the attack on government forces.” Jubaland denied these claims.

Although the government of Somalia insists the elite soldiers were deployed to take bases left by exiting African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops, Jubaland says there was a conspiracy to overthrow President Madobe.

Kenya’s involvement in Jubaland dates back to military operations against Al-Shabaab and its support for Ahmed Madobe. However, this has sometimes led to tensions with Somalia’s federal government, forcing KDF to take a neutral stand in the latest regional conflict in Somalia.

Somalia: Jubaland releases second batch of captured SNA troops
15-12-2024
[Garowe] The regional government of Jubaland has released the Somali National Army (SNA) troops who were captured during Wednesday's clashes at Raskamboni, signaling possible dialogue with the federal government, which was accused of trespass in the region.

The second group of Somali soldiers taken prisoner by Jubaland regional forces during Wednesday's battle in Raskamboni were flown back to Mogadishu on a private flight on Sunday. Over 600 soldiers surrendered to the Kenyan military at the border and they are now awaiting repatriation.

The SNA soldiers had been dispatched to the area following a standoff between Jubaland's President Ahmed Madobe and the Somali federal government over the Kismayo election last month.

At least 83 soldiers who had been taken prisoners were released and evacuated to Mogadishu, where they were deployed to fight the regional administration of Ahmed Islam Mohamed Madobe, the Jubbaland leader.

The soldiers, including elite Turkish-trained Gorgor and Haram'ad brigades, were transported to Mogadishu on two flights from Raskamboni, on Friday, multiple sources from Jubaland confirmed to Garowe Online.

"The dead were buried, wounded treated, and the captured returned to Mogadishu," said the soldiers.

Jubaland officials accused the FGS of deploying troops hundreds of miles away from Mogadishu for political gains while Al-Shabaab is outside the capital of Somalia. Madobe insists he is legitimately elected in Jubaland, asking the federal government to 'restrain' from acts of war.

Mohamud Fanah, the district commissioner of Badhadhe who sided with the federal government against Ahmed Madobe, along with 40 soldiers from the Somali National Army (SNA), crossed into Kenya following the loss of Raskamboni to Jubaland forces on Wednesday, Jubaland media reported.

Authorities in Kenya said 600 Somali National Army soldiers would be repatriated to Somalia after they surrendered in a Kenya Defence Forces Forward Operating Base within Lamu County in Kenya.

Meanwhile, Jubaland Vice President Mohamud Sayid Aden met Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Ethiopia army chief of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces in Addis Ababa where they discussed ENDF support for Jubaland troops amid war with Somalia forces.

The meeting comes as Jubaland soldiers overpowered SNA in Raskamboni and expelled them from the area after heavy fighting on Wednesday that forced government soldiers and their commanders to surrender to KDF at the border.

Somali Forces Repel Attack in Lower Juba, Accuse Jubaland Leader of Al-Shabaab Ties
11/12/2024
[ShabelleMedia] Somali National Armed Forces (SNA) repelled an attack on their forward operating bases in Raskamboni, Lower Juba, by regional troops led by Jubaland leader Ahmed Madoobe, the defense ministry said on Wednesday.

The SNA had been securing the bases and preparing for enhanced anti-terrorism measures in the region when the assault occurred. They effectively countered the attack, maintaining control over the area and ensuring continued stability.

In a statement, the Ministry of Defense condemned the assault and accused Madoobe of collusion with al-Shabaab militants. The ministry noted that Madoobe’s forces could only have reached Raskamboni by crossing through al-Shabaab-controlled territory, indicating a coordinated effort with the insurgents. This cooperation, they said, highlights a dangerous partnership.

Somali government forms committee to probe Ahmed Madobe’s militant links
12/12/2024
[ShabelleMedia] The Somali Council of Ministers, under the leadership of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, announced the creation of a new investigative committee during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

The committee’s mandate includes examining any connections between Ahmed Madobe, a suspect currently sought by judicial authorities, and his alleged involvement with militant groups, particularly Al-Shabab.

The formation of this committee comes in the wake of escalating security concerns in the region. Ahmed Madobe, who has been on the run, is accused of orchestrating attacks that have destabilized areas under government control.

The committee’s investigation will focus on Madobe’s role in the recent assault on Raskamboni, a strategic town in the Lower Juba region, which saw significant civilian displacement and loss of life.

Jubaland Conflict: Who is Responsible for what happened in Raskamboni?
15-12-2024
[Garowe] The Somali National Army ( SNA) unleashed against Jubaland regional forces in the Raskamboni area of Lower Juba region after weeks of mobilisation, in what could escalate into a full-blown war following a political dispute between Villa Somalia and Ahmed Madobe.

For the better part of Wednesday, elite soldiers from SNA clashed with Jubaland forces, just days after Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe called for their withdrawal, accusing them of interference with a 'legally elected administration'.

Officials in Jubaland accused the Somali army of a drone attack on its forces near Raskamboni leading to festivities, adding that dozens of Ottoman Turkish-trained Gorgor soldiers surrendered during Wednesday's battle. After the battle, as many as 83 captured SNA soldiers were released and airlifted to Mogadishu.

Also, the Kenyan military said it would send back more than 600 Somali soldiers who surrendered at their base in Lamu county after suffering a major defeat in the Raskamboni area and fled to the Kenyan-Somali border for safety.

Jubaland deputy security minister Aden Ahmed described as unfortunate the use of the weapons and drones provided by the International Partners against "a peaceful" federal state, instead of the intended al-Shabaab

war.

Mogadishu had insisted that the elite troops are set to take over Forward Operating Bases left vacant by the outgoing African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops, a claim Jubaland dismisses as a 'political narrative to pursue ouster of Madobe'.

Despite Jubaland's outcry, which has persistently accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of conspiracy to overthrow Madobe, the government distanced itself from Wednesday's bloodbath, claiming that Madobe engineered it.

Jubaland said Raskamboni had been freed from al-Shabaab more than a decade ago and it was under its full control but Somali troops' deployment was a politically motivated move aimed at de-stabilization of security and destroying the current administration in Kismayo
...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region....
"The Ministry of Defence has been monitoring Ahmed Madobe’s alarming collision with al-Shabaab," read the statement. "The alliance has enabled al-Shabaab to grant passage to the groups he has mobilised for assaults against national forces."

The Ministry of Defence further threatens to charge Madobe with 'treason' adding that 'all those involved shall face legal consequences'. But the fighting comes after Madobe warned against mobilisation of troops in Raskamboni and El-Wak, arguing that 'we cannot allow you to destabilise the state'.

Either side had issued arrest warrants a few days ago against Hassan Sheikh and Ahmed Madobe, with Jubaland accusing the federal government of 'sabotaging' the fight against al-Shabaab. A quick check on the ground shows that the SNA contingent is yet to take over any FOB vacated by ATMIS.

The US and other international partners are calling for the cessation of hostilities and asking both parties to embrace dialogue. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had vowed to intensify operations against Madobe, whom he accuses of conducting indirect elections.

Just as Madobe won the third term, the federal government vowed to teach him 'a lesson'. The warning was followed by the deployment of elite GorGor troops to Jubaland, triggering tensions in strategic towns and subsequently leading to the mobilisation of troops.

Somali PM Hamza Abdi Barre has Called the Jubaland Election held last month in Kismayo Illegitimate and illegal Before the Raskamboni Clashes.

For Madobe, the universal suffrage model would trigger unconstitutional term extensions for federal and regional leaders, thus his decision to stick with the indirect arrangement. Analysts believe the animosity between the two former allies could create a governance gap that could be exploited by al-Shabaab.

Mogadishu’s Folly: A Reckless Attack on Jubaland Threatens Somalia’s Fragile Peace
Opinionating about what they’ve been doing in Somalia while our attention was on Israel, Syria, and domestic American politics:
[Garowe] The recent military offensive in Raskamboni, where the Somali National Army clashed with Jubaland forces, stands as a glaring misstep in the federal government’s handling of Somalia’s delicate political fabric. This ill-advised confrontation not only highlights the growing divide between Mogadishu and the federal member states but also jeopardizes the tenuous stability that Somalia has painstakingly built over the years.

The roots of this conflict lie in a deepening mistrust between the federal government and its federal member states. At the heart of the disagreement is President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s insistence on implementing a universal suffrage model for Somalia’s elections—a move vehemently opposed by federal member states like Jubaland and Puntland
...a region in northeastern Somalia, centered on Garowe in the Nugaal province. Its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland and the equally autonomous Somaliland seem to have avoided the clan rivalries and warlordism that have typified the rest of Somalia, which puts both places high on the list for Islamic subversion...
. These states have voiced legitimate concerns that such a model could pave the way for unconstitutional term extensions and a dangerous centralization of power in Mogadishu. The federal government’s refusal to acknowledge the autonomy of these federal member states has only exacerbated tensions, further eroding trust.

The situation in Jubaland is particularly telling. Ahmed Madobe, Jubaland’s leader, has long been at odds with Mogadishu’s policies, especially after securing a third term in an election that the federal government deemed illegitimate. Mogadishu’s deployment of elite GorGor troops to Jubaland territory under the pretext of assuming African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
Transition Mission in Somalia bases has been widely interpreted as a veiled attempt to undermine Madobe’s authority. For Jubaland, this was not about security or collaboration—it was a direct challenge to their autonomy as a federal member state. The subsequent military defeat of the Somali National Army, which saw hundreds of its soldiers surrender and seek refuge across the Kenyan border, marked a humiliating failure for the federal government’s strategy.

The fallout from this reckless assault is immense. Trust between Mogadishu and the federal member states has been severely damaged, with Jubaland’s defiance likely to embolden other states to resist federal overreach. This growing resentment risks pushing Somalia closer to fragmentation, as federal member states increasingly view the government not as a partner but as an aggressor intent on undermining their autonomy. Meanwhile,
...back at the wine tasting, Vince was about to start on his third quart...
the conflict has created an opening for al-Shabaab
... al-Qaeda's tentacle in East Africa...
, diverting critical resources and attention away from the fight against the murderous Moslems. As Somalia’s primary security threat, al-Shabaab is poised to exploit this vacuum, further destabilizing the country.

The international response to this crisis has been one of alarm. Somalia’s key partners, including the United States, have condemned the violence and urged dialogue between the federal government and its federal member states. However,
there's more than one way to skin a cat...
Mogadishu’s apparent disregard for the principles of federalism risks alienating its allies, potentially jeopardizing the foreign aid and international support that Somalia desperately needs. Domestically, the political fallout has been equally severe. The defeat in Raskamboni has weakened the Somali National Army, exposing its vulnerabilities and undermining its morale. The political polarization stemming from this crisis has further paralyzed efforts to address critical issues such as drought, famine, and poverty.

Mogadishu’s decision to resort to force against Jubaland has backfired spectacularly. Instead of consolidating its authority, the federal government has only deepened divisions and fueled resistance among federal member states. This strategy of confrontation is not sustainable. Somalia’s future depends on a governance model that respects the autonomy of its federal member states while fostering collaboration and unity. The federal government must abandon its combative approach and prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and inclusivity. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud should urgently convene a national forum with the leaders of all federal member states to address their grievances and reaffirm the principles of federalism enshrined in Somalia’s provisional constitution.

Somalia stands at a crossroads. The path chosen now will determine whether the country continues its slow march toward stability or slides back into the chaos of the past. Respecting the autonomy of federal member states and fostering a spirit of cooperation are not just political necessities—they are the keys to ensuring Somalia’s survival as a united and peaceful nation. The lessons of Raskamboni must not be ignored. Failure to act decisively and wisely risks undoing decades of progress, leaving the Somali people to pay the price for their leaders’ misjudgments.

#1  2/2/2014 report: The Raskamboni brigade —which helped Kenya to push al-Shabab militants out of Kismayo in 2012 —is led by Ahmed Madobe, a Somali warlord who has established a local administration in Kismayo that is independent of the central government. A total of 7,621 Syrian refugees returned to their country from across Turkey in a "voluntary, safe, honorable, and regular" manner since Assad’s downfall, Yerlikaya said on X.

There are over three million Syrian refugees in Turkey. Many are returning to their homeland after the fall of the Assad regime.

"The tyrant Bashar was killing and displacing people, that's why we fled," Mohammed, a Syrian national who was at the border crossing, told Rudaw on Monday, before returning to Syria after years of displacement.

Thousands of Syrian refugees last week erupted into the streets in Istanbul and Ankara to celebrate the fall of Assad, some thanking Ottoman Turkish authorities for their warm welcome to the refugees fleeing war.

Ankara has been working to return the Syrian refugees to their homeland over the past few years amid economic challenges; however, it has faced backlash from humanitarian organizations, which have characterized the conditions in Syria as unsafe.

Hakan Fidan, Turkey's foreign minister, said on Monday that Ankara will work for the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.

He also said Turkey will help Syria with reconstruction efforts and will engage with all "regional actors" in that regard.

(HTS) launched a blistering offensive against the Syrian army, ending over five decades of Baathist rule.

While Turkey has announced it had no role in the offensive that led to the fall of the Assad regime, it said on Sunday that it wanted the new government in Syria to be inclusive, with its future determined by the Syrian people.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Prisoner CNN helped free from Syrian prison was actually notorious Assad-regime torturer: report
[NY Post] The prisoner CNN helped free from a secret facility in Syria was actually a notorious member of Bashar al-Assad’s forces known to torture those who refused to pay him off, according to a shocking local fact check.

The network went viral last week with footage of the startled prisoner being led from the prison by journalist Clarissa Ward, who called it "one of the most extraordinary moments I have witnessed" in her 20 years of reporting.

But "independent and unbiased" fact-checkers Verify-Sy published a detailed report Sunday saying that the seemingly innocent prisoner was actually Salama Mohammad Salama — a first lieutenant in Syrian Air Force Intelligence with a long history of alleged war crimes.

"We have subsequently been investigating his background and are aware that he may have given a false identity," CNN acknoweldged to the Telegraph. "We are continuing our reporting into this and the wider story."

The CNN story last week showed Ward and a camera crew, escorted by a rebel fighter, visiting a former Syrian Air Force intelligence headquarters in Damascus and freeing the man who was found under a blanket locked in a windowless cell.

He gave his name as Adel Ghurbal and claimed to have been arrested by government authorities three months earlier — and said he had no idea the Assad regime had collapsed.

Verify-Sy noted, however, that he appeared “well-groomed, and physically healthy, with no visible injuries or signs of torture — an incongruous portrayal of someone allegedly held in solitary confinement in the dark for 90 days.”

Verify-Sy then found that there was no record of an Adel Ghurbal in the region — leading it to his true identity, Salama, the outlet said.

Known as “Abu Hamza,” Salama worked at several security checkpoints in Homs and was involved in theft, extortion and coercing residents into becoming informants for Assad, local residents told the fact-checkers.

He also killed civilians during the Syrian civil war in 2014 — and allegedly detained and tortured young men on bogus charges, many of whom refused to pay bribes, Verify-Sy reported.

Locals claim he was locked up in the prison where he was discovered for less than a month due to a dispute with a high-ranking officer over sharing the extorted money.

-Great Cultural Revolution
VDH: Are the Years of Madness Ending?
[AmericanGreatness] Never in U.S. history has a president-elect been welcomed as the real president before his January 20 inauguration. And never has the incumbent president so willingly surrendered his last two months in office and all but abdicated—to the relief of his nation and the rest of the world.

One reason so many are welcoming Trump’s return is the universally desperate hope that his election spelled an end to a collective madness at home and its ripples abroad during the last four years. And why not?

Nations overseas had never quite witnessed anything like the lethal August 2021 American flight from Afghanistan. That utter humiliation and impotence of the U.S. military likely signaled to Russia there would be no consequences if it invaded Ukraine—and it did; to Iran that it could now unleash Hamas and Hezbollah on Israel—and it did; and to China that it could daily threaten Taiwan and send a spy balloon across the United States with impunity—and it did.

The result was the current global chaos perhaps not seen since the late 1930s when a confused United States was similarly a bystander to the rise of bellicose regimes and wars. The Biden administration shrugged that the Red Sea, the Black Sea, the South China Sea, the Straits of Hormuz, and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea all became dangerous to the U.S. Navy and unsafe to world shipping.

A disparate group of nuclear and near-nuclear powers—Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran—are either at war with Western allies or threatening war with them. Their confidence was predicated on the assumption that the U.S. after 2020 was engaged in a Maoist-like cultural revolution that warred on its own security, energy, military, universities, and social unity—and would continue with a second Biden term.

The Biden-era cultural revolution has done great damage to the United States. The U.S. border was systematically and deliberately destroyed to allow some 10-12 million illegal entrants to pour into the U.S. without legality or background checks. Never has an outgoing administration spitefully sold taxpayer-purchased border wall material for pennies on the dollar—rather than see it used for the purposes for which it was purchased.

Never had the U.S. experienced such an immigrant surge. And never had more than 50 million, and over 15 percent of the resident American population been foreign-born.

Why did Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas erase the border? What madness and hate drove them to dismantle federal immigration law? Was it sheer nihilism? Or a desperate but calculated effort to alter American demography for political purposes?

For four years, the public, elected officials, and pundits have all warned that Joe Biden was dangerously cognitively challenged and indeed completely unfit to fulfill the duties of the presidency.

A long-suffering nation winced as Biden slurred his words, spoke in unintelligible sound bites, stood frozen and mute, screamed at and libeled half the country, tripped, fell, wandered aimlessly, became bewildered, and more or less proved a global embarrassment. All knew Biden was not able to run the country; yet none knew exactly who was actually in charge of America in his stead. The Obamas? Leftists like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, the Squad, Jill Biden, and the Biden staff?

Our allies worried that the usually resilient American president was now all but demented. Our enemies enjoyed these leaderless years of opportunity. And the left serially misled the public that the decrepit Biden, whom they feared in private was senile, was "dynamic," "energic," and "fit as a fiddle."

Never has a president so deserved to be removed by the 25th Amendment or through impeachment and conviction. And never has even his inner circle finally but silently agreed as they left office, the very enablers who had done their political best to mask his dementia for four long years.

Rarely have the FBI, the CIA, the IRS, the Department of Justice, and the Pentagon become weaponized and so flagrantly and with impunity broken the law, abandoned their mission statements, and served political agendas rather than the American people. Not since the J. Edgar Hoover era has the FBI hierarchy serially lied under oath, stonewalled Congress, forged a court affidavit, or partnered with the media to suppress the news. Has the FBI ever raided an ex-president’s home, spied on parents at school board meetings, monitored Catholics, or tried to terrify and harass pro-life activists?

Never has the justice system, from local to state to national jurisdictions, so systematically and coordinately, sought to bankrupt, render inert, and jail an ex-president and current presidential candidate.

Never has a presidential family so brazenly profited by selling its influence to foreign interests. Never has it used the powers of the FBI and DOJ to cover up its crimes and to ensure the family filial bagman would be for years exempted by the DOJ and later pardoned by the president himself, the father of the family miscreant and privy to the family syndicate’s illegal activities.

Seldom has a president and his administration sought to fuel a veritable cultural revolution to change the fabric of the nation by institutionalizing a third, transexual gender, violating civil rights law, and systematically admitting, hiring, and promoting Americans on the basis of their race and gender.

Never since the Civil War era had local and state insurrectionist governments established 600 nullification zones, in which they vowed to break federal law and consider it null and void within their jurisdictions. Never have rioters looted, burned, killed, assaulted, and occupied large swaths of cities for over 120 days, and largely with impunity.

Never had the U.S. Treasury borrowed so much money so quickly and owed $37 in national debt—and been so intent on borrowing continuously nearly $2 trillion a year in annual deficits.

Never has a political party sought to systematically violate long-standing traditions, customs, and often the law itself to destroy a political opponent: hiring a foreign national to spread smears among the media and bureaucracies, impeaching a president twice, trying an ex-president in the Senate, seeking to remove a presidential candidate from 16 state ballots, using five different judicial jurisdictions to try an ex-president, and serially so defaming a candidate and ex-president as a dictator, fascist, and Nazi to create a climate that encouraged two near-miss assassination attempts on him.

In sum, for the last four years, the world has watched aghast as the United States lost its collective mind and became a radical Jacobin revolutionary society.

So why is there not a sense of almost ecstatic relief, not just among conservatives but even among Democrats, that the years of darkness and madness are ending?

The global public believes that the United States will again become lawful, have a secure border, return as a beacon of free-market economics, protect its allies, deter its enemies, win over its neutrals, return to the rule of law, restore the professionalism and prestige of its government agencies, check predatory nations abroad with a new deterrent military, and prepare to lead the world in energy production, exploration of space, and scientific and technology development.

Summed up, the welcomed counterrevolution is one of restoration—to dream again that nothing is impossible, and the dreary age of stasis, envy, cynicism, and nihilism is ending, replaced again by a world without limits. No one knows quite what is ahead, but all know that it is at least better already than the current nightmare.

Government Corruption
The Deafening Silence Over the J6 Pipe Bombs
[PJ] The silence over the Jan. 6, 2021, pipe bomb incident is deafening. The radio silence on what we've been assured are "viable" pipe bombs planted outside the DNC and near the RNC on J6 continued in the Inspector General's report when he offered only a few treacly paragraphs on the issue. Keeping the pipe bomb issue on the DL raises the spidey senses of those who believe that the pipe bomb incidents, far from being a J6 sideshow, were a planned diversion by — who, exactly? — to stop the Electoral College counting when Republican senators were to be offering proof of shady ballot counting and calling for an audit of the 2020 election.

All available cops would be sent to the bomb reports, the count would stop, Kamala Harris, the nation's first woman of color who ascended to the nation's second most powerful position and could have been killed by a "viable" pipe bomb, would be feted as a woke heroine and survivor. Joe Biden would be officially declared the winner. Game over.

But they didn't need a diversion. The people who brought you the information and active measures campaigns in "color revolutions" around the world had succeeded in starting a riot at the Capitol Complex.

The January 6 Committee mentioned the pipe bomb only five times — in its index, not even in the body of the report.

The Chairman of the January 6 Committee, Bennie Thompson, admitted he wasn't "privy" to much information about the pipe bomb. He had never seen the video of the person "planting it" and chatting on his cell phone the night before, nor had he seen the lackadaisical way in which the Secret Service treated the "discovery" of the pipe bomb the next day, as Harris sat inside the building.

Israel drops 'earthquake bomb': Colossal explosion 'so big it registered on the Richter scale' hits Syria as air strikes target weapons depots after fall of Assad
Lots of dramatic photos at the link.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] 'Colossal' explosions have filled the skies in Syria as Israeli strikes are said to have targeted military sites in the 'the heaviest strikes' in the area for more than a decade - with blasts which registered on earthquake sensors.

A war monitor group said that Israeli strikes had targeted military sites in Syria's coastal Tartus region.

'Israeli warplanes launched strikes' targeting a series of sites including air defence units and 'surface-to-surface missile depots', said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, in what it said were 'the heaviest strikes in Syria's coastal region since the start of strikes in 2012'.

It has been claimed that the explosion was so large, it measured as a magnitude 3.0 on seismic sensors.

Tartus has been the location of one of Russia's two military bases in Syria and was used as a naval base, as well as an ammunition depot.

The huge explosion, as well as secondary explosions, may indicate the presence of a large volume of stored armaments.

Dramatic videos circulating on social media showed a huge bright flash followed by several explosions which sent an enormous mushroom cloud of smoke into the air.

Russia's foreign ministry earlier today said it had evacuated some of its diplomatic staff from Syria, a week after the fall of the nation's dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Russia in Syria. 15.12.2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin:

[ColonelCassad] 1. Negotiations with HTS regarding our bases are ongoing. The parties are currently exchanging proposals and discussing possible parameters. There are already certain points of contact on a number of parameters. But there are a couple of problematic issues.

2. There are currently no decisions on the complete withdrawal of bases in Latakia and Khmeimim. For now. If we fail to reach an agreement with HTS regarding the bases, we will have to organize the process of withdrawing troops and equipment in full. This is also not a quick process. But I would like to believe that the bases will be preserved. This is easier than negotiating alternatives in other countries.

3. From the remaining strongholds in Syria that were not specified in the agreement on bases in Latakia, our troops are being pulled back in the direction of Tartus or Khmeimim. So far, without any significant incidents.

4. The surplus equipment that is generated in Latakia will be removed, and the group, even in the case of an agreement with HTS on bases, will be reduced due to the absence of previous tasks for it, which required an expanded military presence in different areas of Syria.

5. The Russian embassy in Damascus also remains for now and will probably remain. The security of the external perimeter is currently provided by HTS militants, driving away militants from groups that are not part of HTS (a carbon copy of the situation in Kabul), including with a fatal outcome for some of them.

6. In addition to Assad, a number of high-ranking officials of the previous army and government of Syria are now in Russia in de facto political exile. In the foreseeable future, they are unlikely to be able to return to their homeland and they have currently dropped out of current Syrian politics.

7. The remnants of the Syrian army that went to Iraq are unlikely to be able to represent a combat-ready force now. Perhaps the Iranians will take them under their wing and create formations from Syrians under the wing of their numerous proxy structures. Although the question of the combat capability of the Syrian formations remains in question. But this is already the Iranians' concern.

8. In Syria itself, especially outside the major cities, killings of people associated with the previous government and army, as well as robberies and looting, continue. HTS militants are trying to create the appearance of legality, but outside several major cities, power essentially belongs to various armed gangs that take advantage of the vacuum of power and security. HTS, even if it wanted to, would not be able to stop all this in a short time.

9. Israel continues to consolidate its position in the occupied Syrian territories and demonstrates a desire not only to hold and populate the Golan Heights captured earlier, but also to extend the occupation to new territories. Even HTS was forced to publicly declare that it is against the Israeli occupation and that Israel must stop striking Syria. However, HTS is unlikely to be able to do anything to Israel now.

10. The key question of Syria's future is whether HTS and Turkey will limit themselves to painting Syria green along the Euphrates (including the upcoming capture of Tabqa and Raqqa) or whether there will be an invasion of the mainland Rojava. The US and Turkey are currently negotiating this issue. Everyone understands that without Rojava's oil, the economic situation for "green" Syria will be as unacceptable as it was for the Assad government. Erdogan obviously wants to finally resolve the Kurdish issue while there is still an opportunity. The US, of course, does not want to give up the Kurdish card, which they use to cover up the theft of Syrian oil and maintain their military presence in Syria.

Russia says it evacuated some Russian, Belarusian, North Korean diplomats out of Syria

[IsraelTimes] A special Russian air force flight from the Khmeimim air base in Syria has evacuated some of the Russian diplomatic personnel in Damascus as well as Belarusian and North Korean diplomats, the Russian foreign ministry says.

“The work of the Russian Embassy in Damascus continues,” the crisis situation department of the Russian foreign ministry says on its Telegram messaging channel.

Russia’s RIA state news agency reports, citing the Belarusian foreign ministry, that all Belarusian diplomats have been evacuated from Syria.

Two Teens Killed in Houston Party Shooting
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Two teenagers were killed and three others were injured in a shooting at a spontaneous party in the Texas city of Houston
...a city in Texas, named after Sam Houston, who would drop deader than he is now if he could see how it turned out...
. This was reported on December 15 by the assistant chief of police of the city Luis Menendez-Sierra, Fox News reports.

"A 16-year-old boy died at the scene, and a 13-year-old girl died at Texas Children's Hospital," a police spokesman said.

The impromptu pop art party was held in an abandoned store, organized via social networks and mostly attended by minors. Information about the shooting was received by the police at 23:20 local time on December 14 (08:20 Moscow time on December 15). When police officers arrived at the scene, they saw teenagers running away, then found the dead and wounded.

It is noted that of the three wounded, one is in non-critical condition, there is no information about the others. It is known that the alleged criminal fled in a car. Information about the shooter has not been disclosed.

Earlier, Regnum News Agency reported that a woman was killed and two men were injured in a shooting in northwest London, and law enforcement officers are investigating. One of the injured men is in critical condition in hospital. The second received injuries that are not life-threatening.

On December 14, a shooting took place in the suburbs of Dunkirk, France. Four people were killed : two migrants and two security agents. A man surrendered to the police, confessing to the murders, and said that he had previously committed another crime.

ABC News clarifies:
Two teenagers were killed and three other people were injured when gunfire erupted inside a crowded Houston "pop-up party" police said was organized via social media.

The Saturday night shooting unfolded at a strip mall in North Houston, where an empty storefront was illegally converted into a "makeshift club" packed with juveniles, Assistant Chief Luis Menendez-Sierra said during a news conference early Sunday.

Officers answering a shooting-in-progress call at 11:20 p.m. local time found a "very hectic scene" with a large crowd of people running out of the makeshift club, Menendez-Sierra said.

Schiff warns of 'precedent' that could be set with Biden's preemptive pardons - Washington Examiner
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] Sen. Adam Schiff
>...Showboating U.S. Representative for California's 28th congressional district since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, Schiff has served in Congress since 2001. He currently serves as the chairman of the United States House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. In a manner reminiscent of Joe McCarthy, on March 22, 2017, in a interview with Chuck Todd on MSNBC Schiff claimed there was “more than circumstantial evidence now” that Donald Trump's campaign colluded with Russia." Todd followed up by asking if he had seen direct evidence of collusion and Schiff responded that there was "evidence that is not circumstantial and is very much worthy of investigation"...>
(D-CA) dismissed the need of getting a preemptive pardon from outgoing President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
, warning that these types of pardons would set a concerning ''precedent.''

Schiff's comments come after Biden granted a sweeping pardon to his son, Hunter Biden, and commuted roughly 1,500 sentences, the most ever offered within a single day. When the incoming senator was asked about why he did not want a preemptive pardon for his role on the Jan. 6 committee, Schiff explained that his preference comes from ''a couple reasons,'' among which he is ''very proud'' of his work on the committee.

''So I think it's unnecessary,'' Schiff said on ABC News's This Week. ''But second, the precedent of giving blanket pardons, preemptive blanket pardons, on the way out of an administration, I think is a precedent we don't want to set.''

Israel and Jordan hold secret talks on the situation in Syria
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] . The head of the Israeli General Security Service Ronen Bar and the head of the Jordanian General Intelligence Service Ahmad Husni held secret talks on the situation in Syria. This was reported on December 14 by the Axios portal, citing its sources.

It is specified that the parties discussed the situation in Syria and interaction with the armed opposition that came to power in the country, which is forming a transitional government. In particular, the issue of arms smuggling to the West Bank of the Jordan River, which threatens to aggravate the situation in the Palestinian territory, was raised.

Israel and Jordan have expressed their desire to work together to address common security concerns.

Jordan is currently the key mediator between Israel and Syrian armed opposition groups.

Earlier, Regnum news agency reported that the leader of the armed Syrian opposition, Ahmed al-Sharaa (known by the nickname Abu Muhammad al-Julani), called on the international community to stop the “Israeli escalation” in Syria.

Al-Sharaa accused the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) of violating the demarcation line in the Golan Heights and striking Syrian territory, and called Tel Aviv's arguments for justifying its actions weak.

On December 8, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Bashar al-Assad had resigned as President of Syria. He ordered a peaceful transfer of power and left for Russia with his family, where they were granted asylum.

Israel then began to strike military targets in Syria. On December 10, the IDF announced that it had destroyed most of the neighboring republic's strategic weapons in 48 hours.

Al Mayadeen TV also reported on December 10 that Israeli tanks had come within 21 km of Damascus. The IDF denied this information, stating that it was holding only a buffer zone on the Golan Heights and approaches to the state border.

On December 14, Yeni Şafak, citing sources, stated that the Turkish army intends to shoot down Israeli warplanes if they help the Syrian Kurds with their strikes. According to the publication, the Kurds asked the IDF to help in the fight against pro-Turkish forces.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Israel's actions in Syria, said that they are unlikely to contribute to stabilizing the situation. Moscow hopes for a speedy settlement in the region, he added.

West Bank: Terrorists factions in Jenin declare the participation in the war against the Palestinian Authority
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

… Hamas and the Palestinian Jihad are trying to overthrow the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. They sent this child soldier along with others to the front line yesterday in Jenin. He and many others were killed in a gun battle with the Palestinian Authority forces.

The media, human rights organisations, the UN and pro-Palestinians in the west don’t care about the Palestinians when they can’t blame Israel or Jews.
So you won’t read about him because Israel wasn’t involved.

Please retweet if you are fed up with the globalist far-left political establishment exploiting everything to promote their false narratives and political agenda!

Report: US asked Israel to approve military aid for PA as it fights terror groups in Jenin
[IsraelTimes] The US has asked Israel to approve the urgent delivery of military assistance to the Paleostinian Authority amid its latest crackdown on terror organizations in Jenin as it attempts to restore order in the flashpoint West Bank city, Axios reports.

It reports that the Biden administration is seeking to provide the PA security forces with ammunition, helmets, bulletproof vests, armored cars and other essential items, but needs Israel’s approval in order to do so.

It adds that an unnamed Paleostinian official appealed to the US for assistance, explaining that the terror groups — chiefly Hamas
..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
and the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
— are currently better equipped than the PA security forces.

The PA has said that the operation in Jenin, the largest of its kind in years, is aimed at restoring security and stability in the area. It comes as Ramallah appears to be trying to signal that it could play a significant role in managing a post-war Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. But the reasons for the operation are twofold, Axios reports, as PA President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

, whose family’s 50-year-reign came to an abrupt end after a lightning rebel offensive earlier this month.

"It was a Syria effect," the unnamed Paleostinian official tells Axios. "Abbas and his team were concerned that what happened in Aleppo and Damascus will inspire Paleostinian Islamist [groups]."

Ukrainian General Staff on the situation around Kurakhove
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Korrespondent] The General Staff denied information about the occupation of the city.

In an effort to take control of Kurakhov at any cost, the enemy is conducting active assault operations on the southeastern outskirts of the city.

The General Staff reported on the operational situation regarding military actions in the area of responsibility of the Khortitsa: Kurakhovo Joint Forces Command, effectively refuting previously circulated statements about Russian troops' control over the city.

It is noted that the Kurakhovsky direction remains one of the hottest on the entire front of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

"Our troops are fighting back against the occupiers, who have a significant advantage in personnel and equipment, and are attacking with the support of artillery and aviation," the statement noted.

Since the beginning of the day, ten armed clashes have occurred in the Kurakhovo area.

The military added that in an effort to seize Kurakhovo at any cost, the enemy is conducting active assault operations on the southeastern outskirts of the city. At the same time, it is trying to seize a road junction and a block of apartment buildings in its southern part.

For this purpose, as well as for the purpose of capturing important administrative and industrial facilities and structures located in the central part of the city, sabotage and reconnaissance groups are trying to infiltrate.

Yes, the General Staff claims, there have been recorded cases of sabotage and reconnaissance groups using civilians.

In turn, in order to prevent such actions by the enemy, the Defense Forces carry out counter-sabotage measures. The command makes all necessary decisions taking into account the complexity of the situation.

The General Staff expressed enormous gratitude to the soldiers, sergeants and officers who held back the Russian occupiers.

But they reminded that the Russian Federation continues to wage a complex hybrid war against Ukraine: along with the offensive of its troops on the ground, it actively implements special operations in the information space. Thus, in support of the implementation of the tasks of the Kurakhovo operation, the enemy is disseminating distorted information about the situation in the city.

"Therefore, observe information hygiene and trust official sources," the message urged.

Earlier, analysts reported that Russian invaders hung their flag on the building of the Kurakhovo city council in the Donetsk region.

Russians entered Novy Komar - DeepState

Russians break into the village of Novy Komar in Donetsk region for the second time.

The enemy continues to use tactics where an armored vehicle, covered with plates and with a bunch of electronic warfare devices, is at the head of the column. The column moves behind it and if the leading vehicle is already hit, they retreat, or, less often, continue moving.

Russian troops entered the village of Novy Komar in the Vremovsky direction, located in the Velikonovoselkovskaya community of the Volnovakha district of the Donetsk region. This was reported by analysts of the DeepState project on Sunday, December 15.

"The situation has also worsened in Novyi Komar, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently carried out a cleanup. On December 14, a column of 9 infantry fighting vehicles and 1 tank at the head drove through the fields south of Razdolnoye and calmly dropped off at least 50 "people," the statement noted.

Analysts explained that now this entire mass of occupiers has dispersed into houses and basements in the southern and central parts of the village.

It is reported that the enemy continues to use tactics where an armored vehicle (usually a tank), covered with plates and with a bunch of electronic warfare devices, goes at the head of the column. A column moves behind it and if the leading vehicle is already hit, they retreat, or, less often, continue moving.

"Unfortunately, this tactic is producing results," the statement added.

Let us recall that the Ukrainian Armed Forces recently returned the village of Novy Komar in Donetsk Oblast to Ukrainian control.

Earlier we wrote that the Russian army tried to break through to the city of Kupyansk, but their assault was repelled.

Northern direction: tactical success of the Russian Armed Forces in the Belogorovsky sector

Russian assault units in the Northern directioncontinueoffensive actions, concentrating efforts on the Belogorovsky sector of the front, where tactical success was recorded.

- Today, the assault group of the Russian Armed Forces, supported by armored vehicles, carried out a successful offensive operation at the junction of the positions of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade and the 81st Joint Airborne Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Russian units broke through the enemy's defensive lines south of Belogorovka, making a dash to 2,000 meters from the line of combat contact. As a result of these actions, Russian assault aircraft, one might say, reached the rear of the Belogorovka section, which created serious threats to Ukrainian forces in this area.

– The Ukrainian Armed Forces are actively using FPV drones to attack Russian attack aircraft, trying to prevent them from gaining a foothold on new frontiers. However, despite fierce resistance, Russian troops are holding the initiative, continuing to build on their success in this area.

A breakthrough in the Belogorovsky sector is of great operational importance, as it threatens the enemy’s defensive lines in this direction.

The consolidation of Russian units in the rear of Ukrainian formations could create the preconditions for a further offensive deep into the defensive positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Seversky direction.

18:33 Drone operators of the "North" group of troops are giving me nightmares to theenemy in the Khar'kov region.

Aerial reconnaissance of the group in the Khar'kov region discovered a concentration of Ukrainian Armed Forces manpower in a wooded area.

Government Corruption
Of Drones, Druze, and Pardons
[AT] Clarice
Some representative excerpts as the essay wanders across a variety of topical topics:
There’s been a lot of buzz this week about the appearance of SUV-sized drones over the Atlantic Coast states, particularly New Jersey. They exhibit some characteristics not previously observed, and speculation is rampant. The most commonly voiced of these is that they were launched by Iran from a ship parked off our coast, but that doesn’t seem true. I’m inclined to accept the speculation of Scott Adams, Dilbert’s creator and a man who has spent a great deal of time exploring psychological tools of persuasion:

This is a good week to practice your lie detection skills because we know the government is lying about drones. For example, Mayorkas says, ". . . no evidence of anomalous activity." Right. It's not "anomalous" to Mayorkas because he knows what the truth. (I assume is our military.) John Kirby says the sightings they could confirm were all regular airplanes. That's pure weasel. The government also says they are investigating, with the FBI, etc. That's also probably true, but only because whatever is happening is not being shared to every part of the government. Watch for overly specific answers. That's how normies (non-psychopaths) lie.

On the other hand, it could be outgoing SEC chair Gary Gensler pretending to launch a fleet of spaceships at us to foil Musk’s plan of transporting people to Mars -- just in case his lawfare against Musk fails.

In the Middle East, autocracy and butchery seem to be meeting a match in the IDF and IAF. In 11 days, the Israelis erased a barbaric Assad regime that had lingered after a civil war for 13 years. Unlike the Biden administration, which left in the hands of the Taliban billions of dollars worth of weapons and military supplies, or the Obama administration, which left Libya’s war stocks untouched, the Israelis systematically destroyed most of the Assad arsenal. They’ve now opened a clear corridor to Iran and its nuclear facilities:

While there’s some press coverage portraying the Syrian “rebels” and suggesting there will be substantial improvement in the areas under their control, I believe that is far-fetched. The HTS -- aka “rebel” forces led by Al-Joulani -- are only minimally an improvement over Assad.

“The terrorists responsible for forcing Assad out are called HTS, or Hayʼat Tahrir al-Sham. Roughly translated to “Levant Liberation Committee.” Meaning that they want to control the entire “Levant.” This includes Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey.”

The country seems, in fact, to be divided along ethnic lines, with the Kurds in the North, the Alawites along the coast, the Al-Joulani forces in the middle, and the Druzes (and many Christians) in the south. To my mind, it is altogether possible that Syria may divide up on ethnic lines. At least one analyst seems to agree with this:

Will incoming President Trump pardon all those convicted in connection with the January 6 riot at the Capitol? There’s lots of speculation about whether he will or should pardon them all or just those whose actions included claims of property damage or violence. I think Bill Shipley makes the best argument for pardoning them all.

...it is based on the refusal of the Biden DOJ to consider moving the trials outside DC, and for no one being willing to acknowledge that all DC residents, including those working in the Courthouse, were quasi-victims of the events of Jan. 6. In 30+ years doing federal criminal trial practice -- including 21 as a federal prosecutor -- I never handled a bench trial. But because of the overt bias of the DC juror pool, and the inability of normal voir dire to screen out biased jurors, defense attorneys -- including me -- have abandoned jury trials for our clients. They are pointless. There has been only one jury that acquitted a Jan. 6 defendant on all the felonies the Govt charged him with -- my client Michael Greene, a 34 year old black combat veteran who came to DC on Jan 6 for work -- and was paid -- performing a task for the Oath Keeper organization. He testified he didn't vote, has never voted, does not care about politics at all, doesn't like Trump, doesn't like Biden, he was only in DC because it was a job -- something the Oath Keepers had paid him to do in the past at other events. If that is the only guy where a jury in DC can find reasonable doubt, then there is no jury trial right in DC because there is no way to find 12 unbiased jurors in a city of only 400,000+ registered voters. You begin with the problem that 93% didn't want Trump for a second term. Then you add the layer that 60% either work for or have jobs linked directly to activities of the federal government. I have had 3 jury trials -- I've had attorneys with DOJ and family of attorneys with DOJ on my juries. They were better than other jurors I had to strike before them. It is not a question of getting "good jurors" -- it is a question of keeping only the "least bad" jurors. You are hearing this from a guy who reviewed probably close to 600 lengthy juror questionnaires in the three Oath Keeper trials. To be a defendan[t] reading through those and thinking "These are the people who are going to judge me knowing I came here to support Trump" is a nightmare. Almost everyone consumes news from the WaPo, NYT, NPR and MSNBC. So, if J6 defendants -- all J6 defendants -- did not have a basic right to a fair jury trial in DC, how can anyone be said to have had a trial process that comported with due process? Your "no blanket pardon" position assumes the opposite to be true. It is not -- 100+ bench trials proves my point.

The Sniffing For Something theory makes sense. Drones are used to inspect infrastructure like power lines and pipelines. But that is easier to do during the day, plus no need for secrecy. Sure is a lot of sniffing going on for an inspection.

In addition to gas and radiation, a drone could also sniff for electromagnetic signals. We have planes that can do that but you cannot fly low in civilian areas, whereas a drone can take advantage of the inverse square law by getting up close.

The heart [BELCH!] bleeds.
Had they not attacked, they would not have been ruined. Do they consider Hezbollah and the government of Iran ruined, too?
[BREITBART] A bigwig within the Paleostinian terrorist organization Hamas
..one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
admitted to a Saudi media outlet that the October 7 terror attack caused the destruction of the organization because of the ferocity of Israel's response.

Israel Hayom reported Sunday:

A senior Hamas official currently based in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
told Saudi media that the 37th anniversary of the terrorist organization's founding comes during a period of decline due to defeats in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
and the broader region.

The official disclosed, ''Hamas is suffering from a genuine leadership crisis. The al-Aqsa Flood attack backfired on us, submerging us in a sea of blood and crises. The most recent blow was the fall of Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Supressor of the Damascenes...
's regime in Syria, with which Hamas had been attempting to rebuild relations.''

According to a report by the Saudi news site Elaph, the Syrian government has ordered Paleostinian terrorist groups to shut down their offices, hand over their weapons, dismantle training camps, and leave Syria as soon as possible.
That would be the conquering Hayat Tahrir al Sham, as the various elements of the Assad government are occupied with running like rabbits to any haven they can find.
The primary Paleostinian group active in Syria has been the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
. In contrast, Hamas's political bureau left Syria earlier due to its support for Salafist tough guys at the start of the Syrian civil war, which sparked a rift with Assad.

Israel Hayom also cited reporting that Paleostinian holy warriors in Syria fled to Iran, but may leave for other countries due to the fear of liquidation (Israel is suspected of having killed Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continued as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintained a separate PM in the West Bank. Zapped during the 23-24 war, to eveyone's satisfaction...
in Tehran in July.)

There are also Hamas officials in Turkey, and some are in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
— including some who reportedly returned there at the urging of the incoming Trump administration, solely for the purpose of negotiating a hotage deal by January 20.

The report that Hamas leaders are accepting that the October 7 terror attack was a strategic mistake is a reversal from past months, and suggests that Israel is succeeding in restoring a deterrent against its enemies.

However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
there are European nations who continue to reward Hamas, with Ireland the latest to join South Africa's ''genocide'' case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Ireland, Spain, and Norway also recognized a Paleostinian state.

Home Front: Politix
DC's Home Rule faces opposition from House Republican in next Congress
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A House Republican is set to revive efforts to repeal Washington's Home Rule and return the district to congressional control for all local legislation.

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) is planning to introduce legislation next year that would undo Washington's local autonomy, instead requiring every local law to be approved by Congress before it can be enacted. Clyde has previously attempted to repeal the D.C.'s Home Rule but those efforts have largely been unsuccessful due to Democratic opposition in the Senate and White House.

But now, with a GOP trifecta heading into the new year, Clyde is looking to try again.

''When home rule was created in 1973, it was: 'OK, whatever the city passes is approved and Congress has a limited amount of time to disapprove it,''' Clyde told the Daily Caller. ''That's backwards.''

Although Washington is not a state nor part of one, the district is allowed to operate as an independent local government through the D.C. Home Rule Act, which was enacted in 1973 to give it some control over its own legislative affairs. The only caveat is that all laws are subject to congressional approval before being enacted, giving members of Congress outsize influence over the 68-square-mile jurisdiction.

That caveat was seen in action last year when Clyde introduced a bill to overturn the district's revised criminal code that was passed by the D.C. Council. The revised code sought to clarify the district's crime laws and, in some cases, reduce the penalties for violent mostly peaceful crimes such as carjackings and homicide.

That bill ended up passing the House and Senate with bipartisan support, and President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. This Is A Man That Does Not Seem Demented...
signed it into law — marking the first time in 30 years that Congress has repealed a district law passed by the D.C. Council.

But in most cases, Congress chooses not to vote on bills passed by the local government. If politicians abstain from doing so, local laws will take effect automatically after 30 days.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
Clyde wants to change that to have every piece of legislation subject to congressional approval.

''The way it should have been is whatever the city approves, Congress must approve that and it is not approved until Congress approves it. And if Congress does not approve it, then it is disapproved,'' Clyde told the outlet. ''It's not approved and Congress has a limited time to disapprove it. It is not approved until Congress approves it because that's the way the Constitution is written.''

Only Three Members Show Up for Ousted Squad Members Farewell Speeches
[TOWNHALL] Just three ''squad'' members showed up to the farewells of ousted members who lost their Democratic primaries this year, Reps. Jamaal Firebug Bowman
...sleazy Dem politician and educator, former U.S. representative for New York's safe 16th congressional district since 2021. On September 30, 2023, while House Dems were desperately attempting to delay a vote that avoided shutting the government down so they could blame it on the Pubs, Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building, causing the building to be evacuated. Bowman told reporters he thought it was a doorknob or something. Capitol Police released a statement saying they were investigating the fire alarm incident, and maybe a few rubes somewhere expected something to come of it. Republicans introduced a motion to expel Bowman from the House but that evaporated too. Bowman issued a statement saying they were Nazis. Bowman is a member of The Squad, a faction of like-minded subversives...
(D-NY) and Cori Bush
...politician, nurse, pastor, and Black Lives Matter activist formerly serving as the U.S. representative for Missouri's 1st congressional district, since 2021, and probably all years after that until she dies. The district includes all of the city of St. Louis and most of northern St. Louis County. There are few normal people to be found there. Soon after being sworn in, Bush joined The Squad, a group of Socialist Dem lawmakers intent on wrecking the country. She posted a photo on Twitter of herself, the four original Squad members, and another new member, Jamaal Fire Alarm Bowman, with the caption "Squad up."...
(D-MO). The two Democrats
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
delivered their outgoing speeches to an empty congressional floor with only fellow squad members Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Alexandria Boom Boom Ocasio-Cortez
Dem Congressgirl from da Bronx in Noo Yawk and leader of the Mean Girl Caucus in Congress. One of the Great Minds of the 21st Century, she is known as much for her innaleck as for her dance moves. She is all in favor of socialism, even though she's fuzzy on the details. She was the inventor of the Green New Deal, though she doesn't talk about it much anymore
(D-NY), and Rashida Tlaib
...the very first ever Paleostinian-American ever sworn into Congress in 2019. She is a member of The Squad and consistently votes against the U.S. national interest. She's a Dem, naturally, from a safe district you wouldn't want to live in (Michigan's 12th congressional district). She wants the country to be kinda like Gaza only without any Jews for neighbors...
(D-MI) being present.

Bowman's progressive stance on issues is said to be the culprit for his devastating loss. The person who pulled the fire alarm to stall a vote earlier this year has become so unpopular that AOC canceled an appearance she had planned with him on Elected Day. Bowman was also criticized for referring to Israel's war against Hamas
..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,...
as a ''genocide'' against Paleostinians.

In the case of Bush, she was the victim of her own self-inflicted wounds. According to GovTrack, Bush ranks as one of Missouri's least effective Congress members, with only a few of her bills advancing out of committee. During her time in office, the Department of Justice quietly launched an investigation into her bodyguard, questioning whether he provided any legitimate work despite receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from her official office. Bush also committed several notable blunders, including confusing Memorial Day with Veterans Day in a social media post, struggling to understand the tax code during inquiries, and voicing unsolicited opinions on racial issues related to specific criminal cases.

EU diplomat: Syria sanctions relief not relevant until new leadership proves itself
[IsraelTimes] Kaja Kallas says new leaders will have to ensure rights of minorities and women, disavow religious extremism in order to make good on their assurances of moderation

The EU will not lift sanctions on Syria before its new rulers ensure minorities are not persecuted and women’s rights are protected within a unified government that disavows religious extremism, the EU’s top diplomat said on Sunday.
In other words, never. Why are they even playing this game, when the target is not only totally uninterested, but despises such things as effete, proof only of the fact that the EU is ripe for conquest?
An EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Monday, which has Syria on the agenda, would not discuss expanding financial support to the country beyond that already provided by the EU through United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
agencies, said the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
’s new foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas.

"One of the questions is whether we are able to, in the future, look at the adaptation of the sanctions regime. But this clearly is not the question of today, but rather in the future where we have seen that the steps go in the right direction," Kallas told Rooters in an interview.

While the EU has in place a tough sanctions regime against Syria, the rebel group that led the overthrow of Syrian president Bashir al-Assad — Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
— has also been under sanctions for years, complicating matters for the international community.

The EU was already the biggest donor of humanitarian aid to Syria, Kallas said.

"We need to discuss what more can we do. But as I say, it can’t come as a blank check," Kallas added.

She was speaking after attending a conference in Jordan on Saturday that brought together regional and Western powers to discuss Syria’s post-Assad future. Diplomats agreed that the protection of Syria’s minorities was a major concern.

"Syria faces a hopeful but uncertain future," said Kallas, who is making her first visit to the Middle East in her new post. Syria’s new interim leaders had made "positive signals" but these were not enough, she said.

"They are judged by the deeds, not only the words. So the coming weeks and months will show whether their deeds are going to the right direction," Kallas said.

"What everybody is looking at is, of course, the treatment of women and girls also, which shows the society and how it goes, how the institutions are built up, so that there is a government that takes on board everybody," she added.

Human rights bodies say tens of thousands perished under the Assad family’s authoritarian rule, and the ousted president had to be held accountable, Kallas said.

"It’s clear that Assad has been responsible for the crimes committed in Syria, so there clearly has to be accountability," she said, and the International Criminal Court would be expected to look into how he would be prosecuted

"Without accountability, there is no justice, and without justice, it’s also very hard to build the country," she added.

More than 1,300 aid trucks entered Gaza over last week, says COGAT
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) says that over the past week, 1,316 humanitarian aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip.

Additionally, a similar number of aid trucks, 1,318, were distributed to humanitarian warehouses and shelters in Gaza over the past week, “in coordination with aid organizations and the international community,” COGAT says.

The trucks carried food, water, medical supplies, and shelter equipment. The aid was transferred following a “thorough security screening” by Israeli authorities.

Deporting 1 million undocumented immigrants a year is much easier than you think
[KansasCityStar] In a Time magazine interview published this week, Donald Trump
...Never got invited to a P.Diddy party...
continues to stand by his plan to deport millions of undocumented immigrants colonists in the United States to their home countries beginning the day he takes office. Vice President-elect J.D. Vance says that they will start at a minimum target of 1 million immigrants colonists a year.

Critics say the effort will cost $1 trillion and a CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
analysis of research on the subject says even deporting 1 million a year is "unrealistic." That’s bunk.

The deportation deniers offer four reasons we can’t do it: It will cost too much; we don’t know who to deport and we’ll have to grossly violate civil liberties to get it done. Moreover, they argue, foreign countries won’t take them back. None of those are true or they don’t have to be.

I am not making a judgment on whether Trump should make a record-setting mass deportation effort. I am saying that too many analysts have confused what they want to be true with what actually is true.

MYTH 1: IT COSTS TOO MUCH
To begin with, in 2009 and 2010, Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 250,000 people a year from the interior of the U.S. each year. Those are the hardest cases, not like people we turn away just over the border or those we apprehend, process and then return home, which are sometimes reported as deportations.

The budget for these 500,000 deportations was $7.5 billion over two years or $3.74 billion annually in 2024 dollars, in what is called ICE’s Detention and Removal Budget. It was bipartisan, happening under the leadership of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama
That’s just how white folks will do you....
. In the years since then, that budget has gone up by 20% to $4.5 billion but we’re deporting a fraction of the number of immigrants colonists we did before.

All we have to do is get back to the same efficiency we had in 2009 and 2010 to deport 300,000 (20% more than 250,000). Say the next 300,000 cost twice as much to deport — $9 billion and the next 300,000 cost twice as much again, or $18 billion. That’s 900,000 deportations a year for $31.5 billion annually. That doesn’t seem too crazy. And over a decade, that’s a third the cost critics complain of.

Moreover, even the lowball estimates of researchers who say Trump’s goals are impossible accept that such a national effort would cause more than a 100,000 immigrants colonists a year to leave on their own to avoid getting entangled with ICE. That’s your million a year.

MYTH 2: WE DON’T KNOW WHO TO DEPORT
We know enough right now to handle the first five or six years. The federal government knows of 1 to 2 million undocumented immigrants colonists in the country who are wanted or convicted criminals, depending on your definition. There are already 1.5 million undocumented immigrants colonists who are not criminals, but who have been through the immigration court system and been denied legal status. At the same time, there are nearly 4 million cases lumbering their way through our immigration court system — what’s often called the "backlog."

We don’t have to identify a single new individual as an undocumented immigrant for six years of deporting 1 million a year. That’s half the undocumented migrants colonists in the country.

MYTH 3: WE’LL VIOLATE CIVIL RIGHTS
Critics of the Trump plan argue that there simply aren’t enough resources to give everyone who gets caught up in the ICE net due process. Not enough lawyers, judges and ICE agents.

To begin with, there’s no serious argument that the Bush and B.O. regimes were violating civil rights willy-nilly when they deported 250,000 undocumented immigrants colonists a year 15 years ago. Trump’s plan can do the same due diligence as it ramps up to a million a year by spending up to four times as much per immigrant — that’s a lot of extra resources. Trump told Time that he wants to follow the law to get this done. It wasn’t that long ago that ICE quadrupled removals without systematically violating civil rights. The Biden administration did it between 2020 and 2024.

For the first six years, the people who would be targeted for deportation have already gotten their due process or are in the process of getting it already from the system in place under President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing...
MYTH 4: COUNTRIES WON’T TAKE BACK CITIZENS
According to Pew researchers, two-thirds of what they believe are 12 million undocumented immigrants colonists in the United States come from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. All those countries get billions a year in remittances from immigrants colonists who work in the U.S. and send home part of their earnings.

In many cases, a country’s economy is dependent on this $200 billion in leverage. Trump can deliver a simple message: If you don’t take back your undocumented immigrants colonists, our financial system will cut off the remittances. This tool would work just as well with much of Asia, the Middle East and Africa where, among others, Pakistain, Vietnam and Nigeria each get billions of dollars.

The Trump administration has powerful winds at its back that might allow it to launch roundups and deportations at an even faster pace. Computer technology and surveillance have both advanced markedly since 2009. There are more police than there were 15 years ago and crime is much lower — allowing more boots on the ground to enforce immigration laws if local police cooperate as they do in much of the country, and which Trump says he will encourage. The economy is much more digitized, making it harder to live a life where your identity is off the grid.

And there are powerful tools to make the United States much less welcoming to undocumented immigrants colonists that the U.S. has never wielded. For instance, undocumented migrants colonists paid federal, state and local governments nearly $100 billion in taxes in 2024, billions of which is returned to them in refunds fueled by tax breaks targeted at low-income earners. The U.S. could require proof of legal presence to pay refunds and hold the money until the immigrants colonists agree to return to their home countries. Companies could be required to provide proof of legal presence for each employee whose salary they claim as an expense on their taxes. Such a move would hit farmers and hotels where undocumented workers frequently work, as each is dependent on undocumented migrants colonists for workers, and the salaries of which are deducted on their taxes.

Donald Trump’s plans for dealing with undocumented immigration are big, and they could be undone by the competence problems that were rife in his last administration. But they are not as unrealistic as his critics proclaim.

Protesters held on terror charges made to undergo strip search after meeting with Labor lawmaker
[IsraelTimes] The four anti-government protesters charged with terrorism for allegedly firing lit flares at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Caesarea home last month were subjected to a full strip search after meeting with Labor MK Gilad Kariv last week, Hebrew media reports.

According to Channel 12, the Israel Prison Services ordered the strip search on suspicion that Kariv had smuggled them a communications device or similar contraband when visiting on Thursday. However, speaking to the Kan public broadcaster, Kariv says he was scanned for weapons and other suspicious items before entering the prison facility.

Kariv, in a statement responding to the report, accuses the IPS of “deliberately thwarting the ability to carry out parliamentary oversight of the conditions of detention” and says that the reported incident is proof that the categorization of the detainees as security prisoners “severely violates their rights.”

The Public Defender’s Office in response says that being strip searched “is a harsh, humiliating and degrading act.”

“The Public Defender’s has previously criticized the inappropriate phenomenon of unnecessary strip searches,” it continues. “Even in instances where the Prison Service has the legal authority to conduct a strip search on a person in custody, this should only be done when appropriate, when there is a real suspicion of the transfer of prohibited substances.

“Even when a person loses his freedom, he does not lose his dignity,” it adds.
They’ve demonstrated they aren’t trustworthy. Therefore they are not trusted.

Iraq police remove ISIS flag from ex-stronghold Hawija

They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) flag that flew for three days over a public school in a remote village in Kirkuk’s Hawija district, a security source said.

"Three nights ago, the Iraqi flag was removed from the primary school in Ofiya village in Hawija district and was replaced by the ISIS flag," Sabir Mohammed, head of Kirkuk police’s media office, told Rudaw.

A federal police team arrived at the village on Saturday and removed the ISIS flag, returning the Iraqi banner to its place.

According to Mohammed, the village is rural, without surveillance cameras, and lacks access to electricity.

He did not name any suspects.

Hawija district, located in the southwest of Kirkuk province, has been a longtime bastion of insurgency in Iraq and was among the final holdouts of territory held by ISIS when the group was declared defeated in 2017.

ISIS remnants continue to pose security threats through hit-and-run attacks, abductions, and bombings, particularly in rural parts of Iraq disputed by the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Iraq uses its air force to crack down on ISIS sleeper cells, launching frequent Arclight airstrike

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
On the probable offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin.

[ColonelCassad] Regarding the new tactical signs that appeared in the Chernigov region.
It is quite possible that this is for a new attempt at an offensive in the Bryansk or Kursk regions.

Previously, the enemy transferred parts of one of the tank brigades to the Chernihiv region + up to two brigades of the strategic reserve. The potential of the group for the enemy's offensive is estimated at up to 25,000 personnel, 100-120 tanks, up to 600-700 armored fighting vehicles, up to 60 units of barrel artillery (self-propelled guns, towed howitzers) + a certain number of MLRS (including several HIMARS).

The ammunition and equipment now hastily transferred from the EU and the USA are primarily thrown into preparing for the offensive. The same applies to the busification, through which they are trying, among other things, to increase the number of personnel for a potential offensive.

Talk of peace and negotiations is a banal camouflage designed to somehow cover up the preparation for the next stage of escalation.

If we can correctly determine the main areas of concentration and the direction of the main attack, and then provide the necessary defensive measures, the failure of this attack will have the most serious consequences for the enemy. If we miss somewhere, we will get additional operational and tactical problems, which under certain circumstances may interfere with plans for offensive operations in other directions.

So we wait and prepare. The cornered rat will try to rush into attack once more.

Iraq
Iraq rejects asylum for Syria ex-regime soldiers, Maher al-Assad
[NEWARAB] Iraqi officials have said that the country has no intention of granting asylum to thousands of Syrian soldiers who entered its territory shortly before the collapse of Bashir al-Assad's regime. Estimates suggest that around 3,000 former Syrian army personnel, including both soldiers and officers, are currently under Iraqi custody or supervision mainly in the western Anbar province.

Speaking on condition of anonymity to The New Arab's Arabic language edition, al-Araby al-Jadeed, Iraqi sources said the soldiers, who fled as the Assad government was on the brink of collapse, will not be permitted to remain in Iraq as refugees.

"They will remain hosted by Iraq in the coming period until their situation is resolved and their safe return is guaranteed," one source said. "Iraq is committed to ensuring their well-being while they remain on its territory and once they are sent back across the border."

Iraq announced last Saturday that it had received hundreds of Syrian troops who had abandoned their positions as battles intensified, initially planning to return them to Damascus by air. However,
a hangover is the wrath of grapes...

there is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened...
the swift downfall of the Assad regime forced the Iraqi government to put repatriation plans on hold.

Sagvan Sindi, the deputy head of the Security and Defence Committee in the Iraqi parliament, told The New Arab that the government was deliberating on how best to handle the Syrian soldiers' presence.

"The issue is related to the Iraqi government on how it would deal with the Syrian soldiers," Sindi said.

TNA sent inquiries to the International Committee of the Red Thingy regarding whether the Syrian soldiers could be considered prisoners of war, but had not received a response at the time of publication.

Turki Mohammed, the mayor of al-Qa'im in western Anbar, where many of the soldiers are currently being held, said Iraqi authorities facilitated the Syrian troops' entry once they had surrendered their weapons at the border.

"Iraq received nearly 3,000 former Syrian army combatants, including soldiers and officers, over the past few days," he told al-Araby al-Jadeed.

IDF says Al Jazeera cameraman killed in Gaza strike was member of Islamic Jihad
[IsraelTimes] Military says Ahmed Al-Louh, previously a PIJ platoon commander, was situated in compound used to plan attacks; TV network accuses Israel of ‘systematic killing of journalists’

The Israel Defense Forces said Sunday that an Al Jazeera cameraman killed in an Arclight airstrike

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. i-funded network condemned the strike.

In a statement, the military said it carried out a dronezap against a group of Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
and Islamic Jihad terror operatives at a command center, based out of the offices of the Gaza civil defense organization in Nuseirat.

"The compound was used by the gunnies to plan and execute terror acts against IDF troops in the immediate time frame," the military said.

According to the IDF, several terror operatives were killed in the strike, including Ahmad al-Louh, an Al Jazeera cameraman whom the military accused of previously serving as a platoon commander in Islamic Jihad’s central Gaza brigade.

The IDF said it took steps to mitigate civilian harm in the strike, including by using precision munitions, aerial surveillance and other intelligence.

Al Jazeera, meanwhile, said in a statement that it "condemns in the strongest terms the killing of its cameraman, Ahmad Baker al-Louh, 39, by the Israeli occupation forces," whom the network said was "brutally killed in an airstrike that targeted a civil defense post in the market area."

The network added that Louh’s killing came "just days after the targeting of his house" by Israeli forces who "utterly destroyed" it — an accusation to which the IDF did not specifically respond.

The network accused Israel of "systematic killing of journalists in cold blood," as well as "evasion of responsibilities under international humanitarian law."

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
the strip’s Hamas-governed civil defense agency front man Mahmud Bassal confirmed Louh had been killed in the strike on the Nuseirat camp, which he said also claimed the lives of three members of the rescue agency.

In a statement, Hamas called Louh’s killing an "liquidation" and a "war crime," describing it as "part of a systematic targeting of journalists in Gaza, aimed at intimidating them and deterring them."

It was not the first time an Al Jazeera employee has been killed by Israeli forces amid the ongoing war in Gaza, which began when the Hamas terror group attacked Israel on October 7 last year, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages.

In January, Israel said an Al Jazeera staff journalist as well as a freelancer killed in an airstrike in Gaza were terror operatives.

The following month, it accused another journalist with the channel, who was maimed in a separate strike, of being a deputy company commander with Hamas.

And in October, the IDF said it had uncovered documents in Gaza that show six active Al Jazeera news hounds were operatives in the Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

Al Jazeera has fiercely denied
No, no! Certainly not!
Israel’s allegations and accused it of systematically targeting Al Jazeera employees in the Gaza Strip.

In April, the Israeli government passed an emergency law to take the network off the air and block its broadcasts for violating national security. Courts have since upheld the legislation, citing confidential information.

Israel continues bombing Syrian Army targets: 61 airstrikes + 26 raids = 450 strikes in 13 provinces over past week, Tartus strike hits 3.1 on Richter scale

Israel said to heavily strike military targets on Syrian coast

[IsraelTimes] Reports say Israeli strikes have targeted military sites in Syria’s coastal Tartus region, with a Syria war monitor calling them “the heaviest strikes” in the area in more than a decade.

“Israeli warplanes launched strikes” targeting a series of sites, including air defense units and “surface-to-surface missile depots,” says the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, in what it says were “the heaviest strikes in Syria’s coastal region since the start of strikes in 2012.”

Footage posted to social media shows a huge explosion.

SOHR, run by a single person, has regularly been accused by Syrian war analysts of false reporting and inflating casualty numbers as well as inventing them wholesale.

Israel still striking former Syrian army depots: Monitor

[Rudaw] Israeli warplanes on Sunday continued striking warehouses and ammunition depots of the former Syrian army in the Damascus, Hama, and Homs provinces, a war monitor reported.

The latest round of strikes targeted missile warehouses in the Qalamoun Mountains in Damascus, as well as weapons warehouses and air defense facilities in Homs and Hama, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor.

“Since Saturday evening, Israeli warplanes have launched 61 airstrikes and carried out 26 raids. This brings the number of Israeli strikes to 446, targeting 13 Syrian provinces since the fall of the former regime on December 8,” the Observatory said.

Israel has been scrambling to destroy Syria’s military stockpiles since last Sunday, when rebels ousted Bashar al-Assad’s regime from power and sent him fleeing to Russia. It has also sent troops marching across the border into a buffer zone east of the annexed Golan Heights, a move condemned by Arab countries and the United Nations.

It has defended its decision to send troops across the border as a precaution to political uncertainty in Syria.

As Assad’s regime fell, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a “historic day for the Middle East.”

Tartus strikes said picked up by quake monitor

[IsraelTimes] A tremor recorded off the coast of Syria late last night is being attributed in Hebrew language media to heavy Israeli strikes allegedly carried out in in the coastal Tartus region.

A 3.1 magnitude temblor is reported by the Geographic Survey of Israel’s seismology department at 11:49 p.m. last night, with its epicenter about 28 kilometers (17 miles) off the coast of the city of Banias.

The earthquake’s depth is measured at 32 kilometers (20 miles), and there is no confirmation that the reading was in fact caused by explosions.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Israeli planes launched intense strikes in Syria’s coastal region late Sunday targeting air defense units, “surface-to-surface missile depots” and other sites.

… used by jihadist rebels.

Israel has done more for peace and security than the United Nations.

Ukrainian 120mm mortar team fires a defective round

Ukrainian mortars and artillery were one of the few bright spots of the Ukrainian defense against the Russian invasion.

[VK] Another example of a defective 120mm mortar mine of Ukrainian manufacture, supplied to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

After firing, the mine flew only a few meters and fell on the roof of a barn where the mortar crew was hiding.

The footage shows one of the reasons for this outcome - half of the main propellant charge is simply filled with cardboard instead of propellant, which does not burn completely and results in a colossal undershoot.

Leb: Israel airstrikes three Hezbollah sites in two districts, one toes up
Israeli drones bomb areas near two Sidon district towns

[NAHARNET] An Israeli drone on Friday bombed the Tebna area near the Sidon district town of Bayssarieh, the state-run National News Agency said.

The same area had been targeted twice since the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire took effect on November 27.

Israel had claimed that the targets were Hezbollah ''activities'' and ''a Hezbollah facility containing medium-range rockets.''

Later on Friday, an Israeli drone bombed an open area on the outskirts of the Sidon district town of al-Zrariyeh, causing no casualties, media reports said.

The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
's health ministry said an Israeli dronezap in the south killed one person on Saturday, the latest deadly raid despite a more than two-week ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.

"An Israeli enemy dronezap... killed one person" in al-Khardali in the Marjayoun district, the health ministry said in a statement. The official National News Agency reported a car was targeted.

Bodies of mother, daughter who drowned in Aegean returned to Sulaimani
[Rudaw] The bodies of Naila Mustafa and her 9-month-old daughter Noor who drowned when their boat sank in the Aegean Sea, were returned to Sulaimani on Saturday to be buried in Ranya.

"On November 28, we received news that their boat had sunk in the waters between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
and Greece. Besides my niece and her daughter, three Afghans drowned," Mustafa’s uncle Ismail told Rudaw, adding that the boat they were on could carry a maximum of 15 people but the smuggler had 32 people aboard.

Ismail said Mustafa and her family decided to leave the Kurdistan Region after her spouse lost his job.

Mustafa’s brother Rasul Mustafa said they have learned that the boat operator and the smuggler are Ottoman Turkish nationals and were arrested by the Greek police.

"The Greek police encountered the smugglers on the way and out of fear of being caught, they quickly turned the boat, resulting in the boat capsizing and five victims," Rasul Mustafa explained at a presser on Saturday.

Speaking to Rudaw the day after the boat sank, Mustafa’s husband Kawez Saadulla also blamed the smuggler for the death of his family.

The boat sank north of the island of Samos, Peshraw Abdullah, a representative of the Returning Refugees Association, told Rudaw after the tragedy.

According to a report of the Association of Returning Kurdish Refugees in Europe, 46 citizens of the Kurdistan Region have bit the dust this year, 14 of whom were from the Autonomous Administration of Raparin, which includes the city of Ranya.

Face tattoo maniac sentenced to 100 years for shootings that killed 1, wounded others in Nevada, Arizona
[NYPOST] A maniac dubbed "Skelator" for his eerie face tattoos is headed to prison for 100 years for a shooting rampage across Nevada and Arizona that left one person dead and several others injured, including a cop.

Christopher McDonnell, 32, of Texas landed the life sentence Friday after pleading guilty in October to more than 20 felonies in the horror.

The creepy-looking killer claimed he was "God" during the slay spree, during which he fatally shot a man in a 7-Eleven store in Nevada on Thanksgiving in November 2020 before speeding off in a car and randomly shooting at others from it.

Kevin Mendiola Jr., 22, died after shielding his girlfriend from the bullets.

In court, three victims recalled their terrifying run-ins with the sick gunman, whose face is tattooed to look like a cracked skull with a cross etched between his eye sockets.

"I call him ’Skeletor,’ " testified a man who dodged McDonnell’s bullets zipping past him as he left the 7-Eleven, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

McDonnell eventually turned his gun on the man’s daughter and 1-year-old granddaughter, who were trapped in a parked car as he menaced them.

"I said, ’Please don’t shoot. I don’t have any money. You can take my car. You can take anything you want. Please don’t shoot,’ " the daughter told the court.

McDonnell then leveled the gun at the baby in the back seat of the family’s car before getting into his own car and driving off.

"I heard him say he was God and that there is an upcoming war coming," the daughter said.

McDonnell’s brother Shawn McDonnell, 34, and Shawn’s then-wife, Kayleigh Lewis, 29, were also allegedly in the killer’s vehicle at the time and joined in on the gruesome mayhem, which lasted 11 hours and continued across the state line into Arizona.

The rampage finally ended after a high-speed chase and shootout with Arizona state troopers during which one officer took a bullet.

Prosecutors said Christopher McDonnell’s sister-in-law was behind the wheel while he and his brother fired from the car’s windows. Lewis was found guilty in the case, although the charges she was convicted of are unclear, and is set to be sentenced in June. Shawn McDonnell is still awaiting trial, according to Fox 16.

Clark County District Judge Tierra Jones slapped Christopher McDonnell with a sentence that means he wouldn’t be eligible for parole until the next century, 2120, KLAS-TV reported.

Israel will be closing its embassy in Ireland
[PUBLISH.TWITTER] In part a response to this story from three weeks ago about Irish Hamas-love and Jew-hate in schools and elsewhere, but mostly about blatant Irish anti-Israel politics.

Irish PM says Israel’s decision to close Dublin embassy ‘deeply regrettable’

[IsraelTimes] Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris says that the decision by Israel to close its Dublin embassy is “deeply regrettable.”

“I utterly reject the assertion that Ireland is anti-Israel,” Harris writes on X. “Ireland is pro-peace, pro-human rights and pro-international law.”

“Ireland wants a two state solution and for Israel and Palestine to live in peace and security. Ireland will always speak up for human rights and international law,” he adds.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar announced that he would be closing the embassy earlier today, citing the “extreme anti-Israel policy of the Irish government” as his reason for doing so.

Israel recalled its ambassador in May after Ireland became one of three EU countries that said they would unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state. Ireland has not recalled its envoy to Israel.
More:
Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin said the two countries would maintain diplomatic relations and that there were no plans to close Ireland’s embassy in Israel.

Last week, Ireland’s cabinet voted to join South Africa’s case accusing Israel of "genocide" at the International Criminal Court in The Hague.

"The antisemitic actions and rhetoric that Ireland is taking against Israel are based on delegitimization and demonization of the Jewish state and on double standards," says Sa’ar in a statement. "Ireland has crossed all red lines in its relationship with Israel. Israel will invest its resources in promoting bilateral relations with the countries of the world according to priorities that are also derived from the attitude of the various countries towards it."

At the same time, Sa’ar announces that Israel will open an embassy in Moldova, which already has an embassy in Israel. The opening is expected to occur in the next year, and Israel is beginning the process of finding a site and appointing an ambassador.

"There are countries that are interested in strengthening their ties with Israel and do not yet have an Israeli embassy," says Sa’ar. "We will adjust the Israeli diplomatic structure of our missions while giving weight, among other things, to the approach and actions of the various countries towards Israel in the political arena."

Mikati calls on Syrians to return home from Lebanon
[NAHARNET] Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called for Syrians who sought refuge in his country to return home following the fall of Syria's longtime leader, Bashar al-Assad.

"The consequences of the Syrian war made Lebanon home to the largest number of refugees per capita, with one-third of our population comprising of Syrian refugees", Mikati said Saturday at a Rome political festival.

"The strain on our resources has been substantial, worsening existing economic trouble and creating fierce competition for jobs and services," he said in English.

"Today, and after the political transformation in Syria, the best resolution to this issue is for Syrians to go back to their homeland," he said.

Authorities say Lebanon, population 5.8 million, currently hosts around two million Syrians, while more than 800,000 are registered with the United Nations -- the highest number of refugees per capita in the world.

Many fled Syria after its civil war began following the repression of anti-government protests in 2011.

Mikati told a festival held by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party that "the international community, particularly Europe, should assist in the return of Syrians".

They should do so "by engaging in early recovery efforts in secure areas with Syria", he said.

Journalist Butusov: More than a thousand fighters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade deserted
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] About a thousand soldiers from the 155th Anna Kyivska Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF), trained in France, deserted after arriving at the front line. This was stated by the editor-in-chief of the Ukrainian publication Censor.net Yuriy Butusov on the air of his YouTube channel.

“There are a huge number of cases of unauthorized abandonment of the unit (SOCH) from among those who were put there, in this brigade,” he said.

He explained that the desertion was due to the fact that this brigade was recruited from forcibly mobilized soldiers who were poorly trained.

“They literally crammed several thousand people from the street into the brigade – these busified people – they said that this was a brigade, they put a competent commander there, but they didn’t give him time to form a team,” he stated.

Butusov concluded that this was precisely the reason why almost a thousand soldiers went home immediately upon arrival.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced on November 26 that 2,300 Ukrainian soldiers had been sent from the country to Ukraine after training. The newly created brigade was named "Anna of Kiev" in honor of Queen of France Anna Yaroslavna, daughter of the Russian Prince Yaroslav the Wise. The head of the department announced readiness to continue training Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers.

Platoon commander of the 21st mechanized brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine Vyacheslav Khomenko stated on November 25 that the overwhelming majority of servicemen in the Armed Forces of Ukraine have no motivation to fight. According to him, 90% of Ukrainian servicemen do not have the necessary combat experience.

The Financial Times reported on December 1 that more soldiers deserted from the Ukrainian army between January and October 2024 than in the previous two years. Over 10 months, prosecutors opened 60,000 criminal cases in connection with the military abandoning their positions. The publication noted that some Ukrainia

Netanyahu approves plans to expand Golan Heights settlements, aiming to double its population
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Cabinet approves $11 million plan to double population of Golan Heights

[IsraelTimes] Money to go toward education, renewable energy, establishment of a student village, and a plan for absorbing new residents in Israel’s northern region

The plan only pertains to the Israel-held part of the Golan.
The cabinet gave unanimous approval Sunday to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s NIS 40 million ($11 million) plan to double the population in the Golan Heights.

Around 50,000 people live on the Israeli-controlled side of the heights, evenly split between Jews and Druze.

The money will go toward education, renewable energy, the establishment of a student village, and a plan for absorbing new residents, said the Prime Minister’s Office.

"Strengthening the Golan Heights is strengthening the State of Israel," Netanyahu was quoted in the statement as saying, "and it is especially important at this time. We will continue to hold on to it, make it flourish and settle it."

The plan only pertains to the Israel-held part of the Golan.
And now for the usual complaints from the usual complainers:
Saudi Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula, largely made up of sand and oil rigs. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual haj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat Frational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start...
slammed the new plan Sunday as "sabotage" against Syria.

In a statement, Riyadh’s foreign ministry expressed "condemnation and denunciation" of the plan, which it called part of a "continued sabotage of opportunities to restore security and stability in Syria" after Islamist-led rebels overthrew president Bashir al-Assad earlier this month.

Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
asserted that the Israeli declaration was a "new episode in a series of Israeli aggressions on Syrian territories and a blatant violation of international law."

Private Seryozhenka: The youngest soldier of the Great Patriotic War
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Text taken from a post on the V Kontakte page of Irina Belokolos

[VK] Seryozha Aleshkov was six years old when the Germans executed his mother and older brother for their connections with the partisans. This happened in the Kaluga region.

Seryozha was saved by a neighbor. She threw the child out of the window of the hut and shouted at him to run as fast as he could. The boy ran into the forest. It was autumn 1942. It is hard to say how long the child wandered, hungry, exhausted, frozen in the Kaluga forests. He was encountered by scouts from the 142nd Guards Rifle Regiment, commanded by Major Vorobyov. They carried the boy in their arms across the front line. And left him with the regiment.

The hardest thing was to find clothes for the little soldier: where would you find size thirty boots? However, over time, both shoes and a uniform were found - everything as it should be. Young unmarried Major Mikhail Vorobyov became a second father to Seryozha. Incidentally, he later officially adopted the boy.

- But you don’t have a mother, Seryozhenka, - the major said sadly, stroking the boy’s short-cropped hair.

- No, it will be like this, - he answered. – I like the nurse Aunt Nina, she is kind and beautiful.

So, thanks to the child, the major found his happiness and lived with Nina Andreyevna Bedova, the senior medical officer, all his life.

Seryozha helped his older comrades as best he could: he carried mail and ammunition to the soldiers, sang songs between battles. Seryozhenka turned out to have a wonderful character – cheerful, calm, he never whined or complained about trifles. And for the soldiers, this boy became a reminder of peaceful life, each of them had someone at home who loved and waited for them. Everyone tried to caress the child. But Seryozha gave his heart once and for all to Vorobyov.

Seryozha received the Medal "For Military Merit" for saving the life of his adopted father. Once, during a fascist raid, a bomb tore apart the regiment commander's dugout. No one except the boy saw that Major Vorobyov was under the rubble of logs.

– Daddy! - Seryozha screamed in a voice that was not his own, ran up to the dugout and pressed his ear to the logs. A muffled groan was heard from below.

Swallowing his tears, the boy tried to move the logs to the side, but only tore his hands until they bled. Despite the continuing explosions, Seryozha ran for help. He led soldiers to the collapsed dugout, and they pulled out their commander. And Guards Private Seryozha stood nearby and sobbed loudly, smearing dirt over his face, like the most ordinary little boy, which, in fact, he was.

The commander of the 8th Guards Army, General Chuikov, having learned about the young hero, awarded Seryozha with a combat weapon - a captured Walther pistol. Later, the boy was wounded, sent to the hospital and never returned to the front. It is known that Sergei Aleshkov graduated from the Suvorov Military School and the Kharkov Law Institute. For many years he worked as a lawyer in Chelyabinsk, closer to his family, Mikhail and Nina Vorobyov. In his last years he worked as a prosecutor. He died early, in 1990. The war years took their toll.

The story of the son of the regiment, Aleshkov, seems like a legend, if not for the old black-and-white photograph, from which a smiling, round-faced boy with a cap pulled jauntily down over one ear looks at us trustingly. Guards Private Seryozhenka. A child who got caught in the millstones of war, survived many troubles and became a real person. And for this, as we know, not only strength of character is needed, but also a kind heart.

Taken from the vastness of the Internet.

Israeli troops kill 20 in Gaza Strip, attack school sheltering displaced Palestinians
[GEO.TV] Israeli troops killed at least 20 Paleostinians, most of them in the northern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Strip, on Sunday Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s and other attacks on targets that included a school sheltering displaced Gazooks, medics and residents said.

They said at least 11 of the dead were killed in three separate Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City houses. The others were killed in the towns of Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun and Jabalia camp.

Residents said clusters of houses were bombed and some set ablaze in the three towns. The Israeli army has been operating in the towns for over two months.

In Beit Hanoun, Israeli forces besieged families sheltering in Khalil Aweida school before storming it and ordering them to head towards Gaza City, the medics and residents said.

Medics said several people were killed and maimed during the raid on the school while the army detained many men. The number killed was not immediately clear.

IDF: Dozens of terror operatives killed in overnight raid in north Gaza’s Beit Hanoun

[IsraelTimes] Several more gunmen killed in adjacent town of Beit Lahiya; military says it hit Hamas command center in former clinic in Jabalia, three cells in Gaza City

Dozens of terror operatives were killed in an overnight raid carried out by troops of the Givati Infantry Brigade in northern Gaza’s Beit Hanoun, the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday. According to the military, the Givati troops raided an area of Beit Hanoun where there was a “concentration of terrorists” following intelligence information on “the presence of terrorists in the area.”

During the operation, which also involved airstrikes, dozens of gunmen were killed, and several other terror operatives were detained, the IDF said.

In a separate operation in the adjacent town of Beit Lahiya, the IDF added, troops of the Kfir Brigade killed several terror operatives in ground combat and by directing airstrikes. The soldiers also located and destroyed weapons in the area.

Meanwhile, earlier Sunday, the IDF said it carried out an airstrike against Hamas operatives at a command center embedded within a building that formerly housed the Abu Shabak medical clinic in Jabalia.

“The compound was used by the Hamas terrorists to plan and carry out terror activity against IDF troops and the State of Israel, and many weapons used by the Hamas terrorists were stored there,” the military said.

The IDF also said that on Saturday night, fighter jets struck three terror cells in Gaza City, whose members were planning to carry out attacks against troops in the “immediate time frame.”

In all of the strikes, the IDF said it took steps to mitigate civilian harm, including by using precision munitions, aerial surveillance and other intelligence. Gaza-based medics said that nine people were killed Sunday in Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun and Jabalia. Residents said clusters of houses were bombed and some set ablaze in the three towns.

The latest operations came amid a months-long IDF offensive against Hamas in the Strip’s far northern towns of Jabalia, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun, launched in early September. So far, the military estimates that it has killed at least 2,000 operatives during the recent operation, while another 1,500 have been detained, and around 90,000 civilians evacuated from the area. Thirty-four IDF soldiers have been killed so far in the operation.

Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip stands at 386. The toll includes a police officer killed in a hostage rescue mission and a Defense Ministry civilian contractor.

Mitt Romney says Dems lost their base thanks to Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren: ''I don''t know how they recover''
[NYPOST] Retiring Sen. Willard Mitt Romney, aka Pierre Delecto

Not just the working class. A lot of new Republican voters look like JD Vance and Elon Musk.
Last month, Trump, 78, became the first Republican to win the popular vote for the presidency in two decades. The president-elect also notched the most robust support from minority voters of a Republican in decades.

Many in the party's progressive wing have faulted the Dems for shifting more to the center in the 2024 cycle
…the Democrats most definitely did not shift toward the center. They just cosplayed shifting to the center, but the lack of sincerity was blatant...
and for not nominating populist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) as the standard bearer in 2016.
It certainly would have been a more honest expression of the party‘s path, but I suspect Donald Trump still would have beaten the Stalinist from Vermont.
''One of the challenges in my party is that our policies do not necessarily line up with the interests of our voters. And so there'll be some reorientation,'' Romney said of the GOP.

''The Democrat Party's the one in trouble. I mean, I don't know how they recover,'' he went on. ''They've lost their base — union guys and gals have left
…also significant numbers of Black men, Hispanics, some 65% of Native Americans, successful tech entrepreneurs — including the Jewish ones, etc…
— the Democratic Party is seen not as rich people but as college professors and woke scolds.''

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Report: IDF’s October strikes drastically reduced Iran’s ability to produce ballistic missiles
[IsraelTimes] An unnamed Israeli military source tells The Washington Post that the Israel Defense Forces strikes on Iran in October meant that while prior to the strikes Tehran had been able to produce fuel for two new ballistic missiles a day, it was now probably limited to one per week.
!!!!!
The source tells the newspaper that it was assumed the shortfall would continue for a year.
!!!!!!!!!!
Additionally, former defense minister Yoav Gallant tells the outlet that the aim of the October 26 strikes — which also targeted air defenses and, reportedly, an active nuclear weapons research facility — was to ensure “Iran is weaker and Israel is stronger,” with Tehran unable to respond to future strikes.
No !!! — that one we already knew.
“There is no strategic defense around Tehran,” he says.

Gallant also says that the strikes, which were in retaliation for a massive Iranian ballistic missile barrage on Israel on October 1, created “a window to act against Iran” before it manufactures a nuclear weapon.

The former minister additionally confirms that Israel was behind the strike in April on a radar system for an air defense battery in Iran’s central city of Isfahan. That strike was in response to Tehran’s massive drone-and-missile attack against Israel on April 13.

“We hit them precisely, but it wasn’t enough to deter them,” he says.

#1  Back when the IDF was delivering their response, there was a lot of chatter about how they were wussing out by not destroying Iran's nuke facilities and more military targets instead of hitting air defense sites and factories. Kinda sorta looks like the Israelis are playing the long game.

Syria returns to normalcy: HTS orders schools open, Palestinian factions to disarm
Syrian children return to classrooms as officials order schools to reopen

[IsraelTimes] Students return to classrooms in Syria as the country’s new rulers order schools to reopen in a potent sign of some normalcy a week after rebels swept into the capital in the dramatic overthrow of president Bashar al-Assad.

The country’s new de facto leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, faces a massive challenge to rebuild Syria after 13 years of civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people.

Cities were bombed to ruins, the economy was gutted by international sanctions and millions of refugees still live in camps outside Syria.

Officials say most schools were opening around the country today, the first day of the working week. However some parents were not sending their children to class due to uncertainty over the situation.

Pupils waited cheerfully in the courtyard of a boys’ high school in Damascus and applauded as the school secretary, Raed Nasser, hung the flag adopted by the new authorities.

“Everything is good. We are fully equipped. We worked two, three days in order to equip the school with the needed services for the students’ safe return to school,” Nasser says, adding the Jawdat al-Hashemi school had not been damaged.

In one classroom, a student pasted the new flag on a wall.

“I am optimistic and very happy,” says student Salah al-Din Diab. “I used to walk in the street scared that I would get drafted to military service. I used to be afraid when I reach a checkpoint.”

HTS said to demand disarmament of Syria’s Palestinian factions

[IsraelTimes] Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else
...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State...
(HTS), the Islamist rebel group that spearheaded the insurgency that toppled Syrian president Bashir al-Assad, has reportedly ordered Paleostinian terror factions in Syria to lay down their weapons, close their training camps and dissolve their military formations.
"We'd rather die!"
"Your choice, bub."

According to a report published in the pro-Hezbollah Lebanese daily al-Akhbar on Friday, HTS has informed the Paleostinian factions, chiefly among them Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
, the Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, headquartered in Damascus, that they will be able to retain their charities and conduct political activities under the aegis of the Syrian state, but will not be allowed to use Syria as a base or a point of passage for military actions against Israel.

HTS leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, better known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani, a former al-Qaeda member, has sought to rebrand himself and his group as a moderate force that will stabilize Syria and respect religious minorities, and has indicated that he will not seek military confrontation with Israel.

Europe
Berlin warns Assad torturers against fleeing to Germany
[NEWARAB] Germany's foreign minister is warning anyone involved in atrocities for the ousted Syrian regime against seeking refuge in her country, saying they would face "the full force of the law".

Germany has been a major destination for Syrian refugees over the past decade, and several hundred thousand Syrian nationals live there. In rulings since 2021, former Syrian secret coppers already have been convicted in Germany for overseeing or facilitating the abuse of detainees.

"To any of (former President Bashar) Assad's torturers who might be considering fleeing to Germany now, I can only say clearly: We will bring all the regime's henchmen to account for their terrible crimes with the full force of the law," Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told Sunday's edition of the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

Baerbock called for international security authorities and intelligence services to work closely together.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said Germany is "extremely vigilant" and pointed to border checks that the country already has put in place on its frontiers as it tries to reduce irregular migration.

She told Bild am Sonntag that "no one who participated in atrocities is safe from prosecution here." She said the convictions already handed down show that Germany pursues such crimes rigorously and should act as a deterrent against people involved in them going there.

More broadly, German officials have stressed that many well-integrated arrivals of recent years will be welcome to stay after the removal of Assad, which came after a number of European countries decided to suspend asylum applications for Syrians, and some talk by politicians on sending refugees back. Chancellor Olaf Scholz acknowledged this in a video released on Friday which "deeply unsettled" them.

"Anyone who is working here, who is well integrated, is and remains welcome in Germany," he said. "That goes without saying."

"Some of the refugees hope they can soon return to their homeland. We will support that as soon as the situation allows," he added. But "only the coming days, weeks and months will show what direction Syria takes after Assad."
