The fallout from the defeat has led to accusations within the Federal Government. Somali National Army Chief of Staff Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Rageh has directly blamed Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and the Commander of Ground Forces for the debacle. Gen. [Garowe] The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will repatriate more than 600 Somali National Army (SNA) soldiers stranded along the Kenya-Somalia border, just days after they lost the battle to claim Raskamboni, a strategic town in Jubaland.
After hours of intense fighting, the overwhelmed Somali troops retreated to the Kenya-Somalia border, where they sought refuge in a KDF Forward Operating Base, surrendering weapons as a result, multiple security sources confirmed.
Kenya's Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo confirmed the presence of SNA soldiers at a KDF base in Lamu County, just a few yards from Raskamboni, a strategic town we'll guarded by Kenyan troops and those from Jubaland.
“They laid down their arms. We are now working on how to take them back home," Omollo said, adding that Kenya respects existing mutual and bilateral relations with the government of Somalia.
Trouble began when SNA forces from the elite Gorgor contingent attacked a base controlled by Jubaland while provoking Kismayo in pursuit of the removal of Ahmed Islam Mohamed Madobe from power, after winning his third consecutive term as a regional leader.
Jubaland claimed control of the town, with reports of ten federal soldiers killed after heavy clashes, forcing the government of Somalia to withdraw the soldiers with some taking refuge in the KDF base. Somalia's government warned that legal actions will be taken against those involved.
Somali Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala alleged, “There is clear evidence that Al-Shabaab played a consequential role in the attack on government forces.” Jubaland denied these claims.
Although the government of Somalia insists the elite soldiers were deployed to take bases left by exiting African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) troops, Jubaland says there was a conspiracy to overthrow President Madobe.
Kenya’s involvement in Jubaland dates back to military operations against Al-Shabaab and its support for Ahmed Madobe. However, this has sometimes led to tensions with Somalia’s federal government, forcing KDF to take a neutral stand in the latest regional conflict in Somalia.

The second group of Somali soldiers taken prisoner by Jubaland regional forces during Wednesday's battle in Raskamboni were flown back to Mogadishu on a private flight on Sunday. Over 600 soldiers surrendered to the Kenyan military at the border and they are now awaiting repatriation.
The SNA soldiers had been dispatched to the area following a standoff between Jubaland's President Ahmed Madobe and the Somali federal government over the Kismayo election last month.
At least 83 soldiers who had been taken prisoners were released and evacuated to Mogadishu, where they were deployed to fight the regional administration of Ahmed Islam Mohamed Madobe, the Jubbaland leader.
The soldiers, including elite Turkish-trained Gorgor and Haram'ad brigades, were transported to Mogadishu on two flights from Raskamboni, on Friday, multiple sources from Jubaland confirmed to Garowe Online.
"The dead were buried, wounded treated, and the captured returned to Mogadishu," said the soldiers.
Jubaland officials accused the FGS of deploying troops hundreds of miles away from Mogadishu for political gains while Al-Shabaab is outside the capital of Somalia. Madobe insists he is legitimately elected in Jubaland, asking the federal government to 'restrain' from acts of war.
Mohamud Fanah, the district commissioner of Badhadhe who sided with the federal government against Ahmed Madobe, along with 40 soldiers from the Somali National Army (SNA), crossed into Kenya following the loss of Raskamboni to Jubaland forces on Wednesday, Jubaland media reported.
Authorities in Kenya said 600 Somali National Army soldiers would be repatriated to Somalia after they surrendered in a Kenya Defence Forces Forward Operating Base within Lamu County in Kenya.
Meanwhile, Jubaland Vice President Mohamud Sayid Aden met Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, Ethiopia army chief of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces in Addis Ababa where they discussed ENDF support for Jubaland troops amid war with Somalia forces.
The meeting comes as Jubaland soldiers overpowered SNA in Raskamboni and expelled them from the area after heavy fighting on Wednesday that forced government soldiers and their commanders to surrender to KDF at the border.
The SNA had been securing the bases and preparing for enhanced anti-terrorism measures in the region when the assault occurred. They effectively countered the attack, maintaining control over the area and ensuring continued stability.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defense condemned the assault and accused Madoobe of collusion with al-Shabaab militants. The ministry noted that Madoobe’s forces could only have reached Raskamboni by crossing through al-Shabaab-controlled territory, indicating a coordinated effort with the insurgents. This cooperation, they said, highlights a dangerous partnership.
The committee’s mandate includes examining any connections between Ahmed Madobe, a suspect currently sought by judicial authorities, and his alleged involvement with militant groups, particularly Al-Shabab.

For the better part of Wednesday, elite soldiers from SNA clashed with Jubaland forces, just days after Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe called for their withdrawal, accusing them of interference with a 'legally elected administration'.
Officials in Jubaland accused the Somali army of a drone attack on its forces near Raskamboni leading to festivities, adding that dozens of Ottoman Turkish-trained Gorgor soldiers surrendered during Wednesday's battle. After the battle, as many as 83 captured SNA soldiers were released and airlifted to Mogadishu.
Also, the Kenyan military said it would send back more than 600 Somali soldiers who surrendered at their base in Lamu county after suffering a major defeat in the Raskamboni area and fled to the Kenyan-Somali border for safety.
Jubaland deputy security minister Aden Ahmed described as unfortunate the use of the weapons and drones provided by the International Partners against "a peaceful" federal state, instead of the intended al-Shabaab ... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda... war.
Mogadishu had insisted that the elite troops are set to take over Forward Operating Bases left vacant by the outgoing African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. Despite Jubaland's outcry, which has persistently accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of conspiracy to overthrow Madobe, the government distanced itself from Wednesday's bloodbath, claiming that Madobe engineered it.
Jubaland said Raskamboni had been freed from al-Shabaab more than a decade ago and it was under its full control but Somali troops' deployment was a politically motivated move aimed at de-stabilization of security and destroying the current administration in Kismayo ...a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia, at the extreme southern end of the country (always assuming Somalia can be called a country). It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region.... "The Ministry of Defence has been monitoring Ahmed Madobe’s alarming collision with al-Shabaab," read the statement. "The alliance has enabled al-Shabaab to grant passage to the groups he has mobilised for assaults against national forces."
The Ministry of Defence further threatens to charge Madobe with 'treason' adding that 'all those involved shall face legal consequences'. But the fighting comes after Madobe warned against mobilisation of troops in Raskamboni and El-Wak, arguing that 'we cannot allow you to destabilise the state'.
Either side had issued arrest warrants a few days ago against Hassan Sheikh and Ahmed Madobe, with Jubaland accusing the federal government of 'sabotaging' the fight against al-Shabaab. A quick check on the ground shows that the SNA contingent is yet to take over any FOB vacated by ATMIS.
The US and other international partners are calling for the cessation of hostilities and asking both parties to embrace dialogue. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had vowed to intensify operations against Madobe, whom he accuses of conducting indirect elections.
Just as Madobe won the third term, the federal government vowed to teach him 'a lesson'. The warning was followed by the deployment of elite GorGor troops to Jubaland, triggering tensions in strategic towns and subsequently leading to the mobilisation of troops.

Domestically, the political fallout has been equally severe. The defeat in Raskamboni has weakened the Somali National Army, exposing its vulnerabilities and undermining its morale. The political polarization stemming from this crisis has further paralyzed efforts to address critical issues such as drought, famine, and poverty.
Mogadishu’s decision to resort to force against Jubaland has backfired spectacularly. Instead of consolidating its authority, the federal government has only deepened divisions and fueled resistance among federal member states. This strategy of confrontation is not sustainable. Somalia’s future depends on a governance model that respects the autonomy of its federal member states while fostering collaboration and unity. The federal government must abandon its combative approach and prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and inclusivity. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud should urgently convene a national forum with the leaders of all federal member states to address their grievances and reaffirm the principles of federalism enshrined in Somalia’s provisional constitution.
Somalia stands at a crossroads. The path chosen now will determine whether the country continues its slow march toward stability or slides back into the chaos of the past. Respecting the autonomy of federal member states and fostering a spirit of cooperation are not just political necessities—they are the keys to ensuring Somalia’s survival as a united and peaceful nation. The lessons of Raskamboni must not be ignored. Failure to act decisively and wisely risks undoing decades of progress, leaving the Somali people to pay the price for their leaders’ misjudgments.

2/2/2014 report: The Raskamboni brigade which helped Kenya to push al-Shabab militants out of Kismayo in 2012 is led by Ahmed Madobe, a Somali warlord who has established a local administration in Kismayo that is independent of the central government. Madobe is a key power broker around Kismayo, although he is not backed by the federal government in Mogadishu.

A total of 7,621 Syrian refugees returned to their country from across Turkey in a "voluntary, safe, honorable, and regular" manner since Assad’s downfall, Yerlikaya said on X.
There are over three million Syrian refugees in Turkey. Many are returning to their homeland after the fall of the Assad regime.
"The tyrant Bashar was killing and displacing people, that's why we fled," Mohammed, a Syrian national who was at the border crossing, told Rudaw on Monday, before returning to Syria after years of displacement.
Thousands of Syrian refugees last week erupted into the streets in Istanbul and Ankara to celebrate the fall of Assad, some thanking Ottoman Turkish authorities for their warm welcome to the refugees fleeing war.
Ankara has been working to return the Syrian refugees to their homeland over the past few years amid economic challenges; however, it has faced backlash from humanitarian organizations, which have characterized the conditions in Syria as unsafe.
Hakan Fidan, Turkey's foreign minister, said on Monday that Ankara will work for the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees to their homeland.
He also said Turkey will help Syria with reconstruction efforts and will engage with all "regional actors" in that regard.

The network went viral last week with footage of the startled prisoner being led from the prison by journalist Clarissa Ward, who called it "one of the most extraordinary moments I have witnessed" in her 20 years of reporting.
But "independent and unbiased" fact-checkers Verify-Sy published a detailed report Sunday saying that the seemingly innocent prisoner was actually Salama Mohammad Salama — a first lieutenant in Syrian Air Force Intelligence with a long history of alleged war crimes.
"We have subsequently been investigating his background and are aware that he may have given a false identity," CNN acknoweldged to the Telegraph. "We are continuing our reporting into this and the wider story."
The CNN story last week showed Ward and a camera crew, escorted by a rebel fighter, visiting a former Syrian Air Force intelligence headquarters in Damascus and freeing the man who was found under a blanket locked in a windowless cell.
He gave his name as Adel Ghurbal and claimed to have been arrested by government authorities three months earlier — and said he had no idea the Assad regime had collapsed.
Verify-Sy noted, however, that he appeared “well-groomed, and physically healthy, with no visible injuries or signs of torture — an incongruous portrayal of someone allegedly held in solitary confinement in the dark for 90 days.”
Verify-Sy then found that there was no record of an Adel Ghurbal in the region — leading it to his true identity, Salama, the outlet said.
Known as “Abu Hamza,” Salama worked at several security checkpoints in Homs and was involved in theft, extortion and coercing residents into becoming informants for Assad, local residents told the fact-checkers.
He also killed civilians during the Syrian civil war in 2014 — and allegedly detained and tortured young men on bogus charges, many of whom refused to pay bribes, Verify-Sy reported.
Locals claim he was locked up in the prison where he was discovered for less than a month due to a dispute with a high-ranking officer over sharing the extorted money.

[AmericanGreatness] Never in U.S. history has a president-elect been welcomed as the real president before his January 20 inauguration. And never has the incumbent president so willingly surrendered his last two months in office and all but abdicated—to the relief of his nation and the rest of the world.
One reason so many are welcoming Trump’s return is the universally desperate hope that his election spelled an end to a collective madness at home and its ripples abroad during the last four years. And why not?
Nations overseas had never quite witnessed anything like the lethal August 2021 American flight from Afghanistan. That utter humiliation and impotence of the U.S. military likely signaled to Russia there would be no consequences if it invaded Ukraine—and it did; to Iran that it could now unleash Hamas and Hezbollah on Israel—and it did; and to China that it could daily threaten Taiwan and send a spy balloon across the United States with impunity—and it did.
The result was the current global chaos perhaps not seen since the late 1930s when a confused United States was similarly a bystander to the rise of bellicose regimes and wars. The Biden administration shrugged that the Red Sea, the Black Sea, the South China Sea, the Straits of Hormuz, and the Eastern Mediterranean Sea all became dangerous to the U.S. Navy and unsafe to world shipping.
A disparate group of nuclear and near-nuclear powers—Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran—are either at war with Western allies or threatening war with them. Their confidence was predicated on the assumption that the U.S. after 2020 was engaged in a Maoist-like cultural revolution that warred on its own security, energy, military, universities, and social unity—and would continue with a second Biden term.
The Biden-era cultural revolution has done great damage to the United States. The U.S. border was systematically and deliberately destroyed to allow some 10-12 million illegal entrants to pour into the U.S. without legality or background checks. Never has an outgoing administration spitefully sold taxpayer-purchased border wall material for pennies on the dollar—rather than see it used for the purposes for which it was purchased.
Never had the U.S. experienced such an immigrant surge. And never had more than 50 million, and over 15 percent of the resident American population been foreign-born.
Why did Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas erase the border? What madness and hate drove them to dismantle federal immigration law? Was it sheer nihilism? Or a desperate but calculated effort to alter American demography for political purposes?
For four years, the public, elected officials, and pundits have all warned that Joe Biden was dangerously cognitively challenged and indeed completely unfit to fulfill the duties of the presidency.
A long-suffering nation winced as Biden slurred his words, spoke in unintelligible sound bites, stood frozen and mute, screamed at and libeled half the country, tripped, fell, wandered aimlessly, became bewildered, and more or less proved a global embarrassment. All knew Biden was not able to run the country; yet none knew exactly who was actually in charge of America in his stead. The Obamas? Leftists like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, the Squad, Jill Biden, and the Biden staff?
Our allies worried that the usually resilient American president was now all but demented. Our enemies enjoyed these leaderless years of opportunity. And the left serially misled the public that the decrepit Biden, whom they feared in private was senile, was "dynamic," "energic," and "fit as a fiddle."
Never has a president so deserved to be removed by the 25th Amendment or through impeachment and conviction. And never has even his inner circle finally but silently agreed as they left office, the very enablers who had done their political best to mask his dementia for four long years.
Rarely have the FBI, the CIA, the IRS, the Department of Justice, and the Pentagon become weaponized and so flagrantly and with impunity broken the law, abandoned their mission statements, and served political agendas rather than the American people. Not since the J. Edgar Hoover era has the FBI hierarchy serially lied under oath, stonewalled Congress, forged a court affidavit, or partnered with the media to suppress the news. Has the FBI ever raided an ex-president’s home, spied on parents at school board meetings, monitored Catholics, or tried to terrify and harass pro-life activists?
Never has the justice system, from local to state to national jurisdictions, so systematically and coordinately, sought to bankrupt, render inert, and jail an ex-president and current presidential candidate.
Never has a presidential family so brazenly profited by selling its influence to foreign interests. [WASHINGTONEXAMINER] A House Republican is set to revive efforts to repeal Washington's Home Rule and return the district to congressional control for all local legislation.
Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) is planning to introduce legislation next year that would undo Washington's local autonomy, instead requiring every local law to be approved by Congress before it can be enacted. Clyde has previously attempted to repeal the D.C.'s Home Rule but those efforts have largely been unsuccessful due to Democratic opposition in the Senate and White House.
But now, with a GOP trifecta heading into the new year, Clyde is looking to try again.
''When home rule was created in 1973, it was: 'OK, whatever the city passes is approved and Congress has a limited amount of time to disapprove it,''' Clyde told the Daily Caller. ''That's backwards.''
Although Washington is not a state nor part of one, the district is allowed to operate as an independent local government through the D.C. Home Rule Act, which was enacted in 1973 to give it some control over its own legislative affairs. The only caveat is that all laws are subject to congressional approval before being enacted, giving members of Congress outsize influence over the 68-square-mile jurisdiction.
That caveat was seen in action last year when Clyde introduced a bill to overturn the district's revised criminal code that was passed by the D.C. Council. The revised code sought to clarify the district's crime laws and, in some cases, reduce the penalties for violent mostly peaceful crimes such as carjackings and homicide.
That bill ended up passing the House and Senate with bipartisan support, and President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. This Is A Man That Does Not Seem Demented... signed it into law — marking the first time in 30 years that Congress has repealed a district law passed by the D.C. Council.
But in most cases, Congress chooses not to vote on bills passed by the local government. If politicians abstain from doing so, local laws will take effect automatically after 30 days.

''The way it should have been is whatever the city approves, Congress must approve that and it is not approved until Congress approves it. And if Congress does not approve it, then it is disapproved,'' Clyde told the outlet. ''It's not approved and Congress has a limited time to disapprove it. It is not approved until Congress approves it because that's the way the Constitution is written.''

Bowman was also criticized for referring to Israel's war against Hamas ..the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,... as a ''genocide'' against Paleostinians.
In the case of Bush, she was the victim of her own self-inflicted wounds. According to GovTrack, Bush ranks as one of Missouri's least effective Congress members, with only a few of her bills advancing out of committee. During her time in office, the Department of Justice quietly launched an investigation into her bodyguard, questioning whether he provided any legitimate work despite receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars from her official office. Bush also committed several notable blunders, including confusing Memorial Day with Veterans Day in a social media post, struggling to understand the tax code during inquiries, and voicing unsolicited opinions on racial issues related to specific criminal cases.

The EU will not lift sanctions on Syria before its new rulers ensure minorities are not persecuted and women’s rights are protected within a unified government that disavows religious extremism, the EU’s top diplomat said on Sunday.
In other words, never. Why are they even playing this game, when the target is not only totally uninterested, but despises such things as effete, proof only of the fact that the EU is ripe for conquest?
An EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Monday, which has Syria on the agenda, would not discuss expanding financial support to the country beyond that already provided by the EU through United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... agencies, said the European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... ’s new foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas.
"One of the questions is whether we are able to, in the future, look at the adaptation of the sanctions regime. But this clearly is not the question of today, but rather in the future where we have seen that the steps go in the right direction," Kallas told Rooters in an interview.
While the EU has in place a tough sanctions regime against Syria, the rebel group that led the overthrow of Syrian president Bashir al-Assad — Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... — has also been under sanctions for years, complicating matters for the international community.
The EU was already the biggest donor of humanitarian aid to Syria, Kallas said.
"We need to discuss what more can we do. But as I say, it can’t come as a blank check," Kallas added.
She was speaking after attending a conference in Jordan on Saturday that brought together regional and Western powers to discuss Syria’s post-Assad future. Diplomats agreed that the protection of Syria’s minorities was a major concern.
"Syria faces a hopeful but uncertain future," said Kallas, who is making her first visit to the Middle East in her new post. Syria’s new interim leaders had made "positive signals" but these were not enough, she said.
"They are judged by the deeds, not only the words. So the coming weeks and months will show whether their deeds are going to the right direction," Kallas said.
"What everybody is looking at is, of course, the treatment of women and girls also, which shows the society and how it goes, how the institutions are built up, so that there is a government that takes on board everybody," she added.
Human rights bodies say tens of thousands perished under the Assad family’s authoritarian rule, and the ousted president had to be held accountable, Kallas said.
"It’s clear that Assad has been responsible for the crimes committed in Syria, so there clearly has to be accountability," she said, and the International Criminal Court would be expected to look into how he would be prosecuted
"Without accountability, there is no justice, and without justice, it’s also very hard to build the country," she added.
[IsraelTimes] The Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) says that over the past week, 1,316 humanitarian aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip.
Additionally, a similar number of aid trucks, 1,318, were distributed to humanitarian warehouses and shelters in Gaza over the past week, “in coordination with aid organizations and the international community,” COGAT says.
The trucks carried food, water, medical supplies, and shelter equipment. The aid was transferred following a “thorough security screening” by Israeli authorities.

Vice President-elect J.D. Vance says that they will start at a minimum target of 1 million immigrants colonists a year.
Critics say the effort will cost $1 trillion and a CNN ...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for... analysis of research on the subject says even deporting 1 million a year is "unrealistic." That’s bunk.
The deportation deniers offer four reasons we can’t do it: It will cost too much; we don’t know who to deport and we’ll have to grossly violate civil liberties to get it done. Moreover, they argue, foreign countries won’t take them back. None of those are true or they don’t have to be.
I am not making a judgment on whether Trump should make a record-setting mass deportation effort. I am saying that too many analysts have confused what they want to be true with what actually is true.
MYTH 1: IT COSTS TOO MUCH
To begin with, in 2009 and 2010, Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 250,000 people a year from the interior of the U.S. each year. Those are the hardest cases, not like people we turn away just over the border or those we apprehend, process and then return home, which are sometimes reported as deportations.
The budget for these 500,000 deportations was $7.5 billion over two years or $3.74 billion annually in 2024 dollars, in what is called ICE’s Detention and Removal Budget. It was bipartisan, happening under the leadership of Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama That’s just how white folks will do you.... . In the years since then, that budget has gone up by 20% to $4.5 billion but we’re deporting a fraction of the number of immigrants colonists we did before.
All we have to do is get back to the same efficiency we had in 2009 and 2010 to deport 300,000 (20% more than 250,000). Say the next 300,000 cost twice as much to deport — $9 billion and the next 300,000 cost twice as much again, or $18 billion. That’s 900,000 deportations a year for $31.5 billion annually. That doesn’t seem too crazy. And over a decade, that’s a third the cost critics complain of.
Moreover, even the lowball estimates of researchers who say Trump’s goals are impossible accept that such a national effort would cause more than a 100,000 immigrants colonists a year to leave on their own to avoid getting entangled with ICE. That’s your million a year.
MYTH 2: WE DON’T KNOW WHO TO DEPORT
We know enough right now to handle the first five or six years. The federal government knows of 1 to 2 million undocumented immigrants colonists in the country who are wanted or convicted criminals, depending on your definition. There are already 1.5 million undocumented immigrants colonists who are not criminals, but who have been through the immigration court system and been denied legal status. At the same time, there are nearly 4 million cases lumbering their way through our immigration court system — what’s often called the "backlog."
We don’t have to identify a single new individual as an undocumented immigrant for six years of deporting 1 million a year. That’s half the undocumented migrants colonists in the country.
MYTH 3: WE’LL VIOLATE CIVIL RIGHTS
Critics of the Trump plan argue that there simply aren’t enough resources to give everyone who gets caught up in the ICE net due process. Not enough lawyers, judges and ICE agents.
To begin with, there’s no serious argument that the Bush and B.O. regimes were violating civil rights willy-nilly when they deported 250,000 undocumented immigrants colonists a year 15 years ago. Trump’s plan can do the same due diligence as it ramps up to a million a year by spending up to four times as much per immigrant — that’s a lot of extra resources. Trump told Time that he wants to follow the law to get this done. It wasn’t that long ago that ICE quadrupled removals without systematically violating civil rights. The Biden administration did it between 2020 and 2024.
For the first six years, the people who would be targeted for deportation have already gotten their due process or are in the process of getting it already from the system in place under President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing... MYTH 4: COUNTRIES WON’T TAKE BACK CITIZENS
According to Pew researchers, two-thirds of what they believe are 12 million undocumented immigrants colonists in the United States come from Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and South America. All those countries get billions a year in remittances from immigrants colonists who work in the U.S. and send home part of their earnings.
In many cases, a country’s economy is dependent on this $200 billion in leverage. Trump can deliver a simple message: If you don’t take back your undocumented immigrants colonists, our financial system will cut off the remittances. This tool would work just as well with much of Asia, the Middle East and Africa where, among others, Pakistain, Vietnam and Nigeria each get billions of dollars.
The Trump administration has powerful winds at its back that might allow it to launch roundups and deportations at an even faster pace. Computer technology and surveillance have both advanced markedly since 2009. There are more police than there were 15 years ago and crime is much lower — allowing more boots on the ground to enforce immigration laws if local police cooperate as they do in much of the country, and which Trump says he will encourage. The economy is much more digitized, making it harder to live a life where your identity is off the grid.
And there are powerful tools to make the United States much less welcoming to undocumented immigrants colonists that the U.S. has never wielded. For instance, undocumented migrants colonists paid federal, state and local governments nearly $100 billion in taxes in 2024, billions of which is returned to them in refunds fueled by tax breaks targeted at low-income earners. The U.S. could require proof of legal presence to pay refunds and hold the money until the immigrants colonists agree to return to their home countries. Companies could be required to provide proof of legal presence for each employee whose salary they claim as an expense on their taxes. Such a move would hit farmers and hotels where undocumented workers frequently work, as each is dependent on undocumented migrants colonists for workers, and the salaries of which are deducted on their taxes.
Donald Trump’s plans for dealing with undocumented immigration are big, and they could be undone by the competence problems that were rife in his last administration. But they are not as unrealistic as his critics proclaim.
[IsraelTimes] The four anti-government protesters charged with terrorism for allegedly firing lit flares at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Caesarea home last month were subjected to a full strip search after meeting with Labor MK Gilad Kariv last week, Hebrew media reports.
According to Channel 12, the Israel Prison Services ordered the strip search on suspicion that Kariv had smuggled them a communications device or similar contraband when visiting on Thursday. However, speaking to the Kan public broadcaster, Kariv says he was scanned for weapons and other suspicious items before entering the prison facility.
Kariv, in a statement responding to the report, accuses the IPS of “deliberately thwarting the ability to carry out parliamentary oversight of the conditions of detention” and says that the reported incident is proof that the categorization of the detainees as security prisoners “severely violates their rights.”
The Public Defender’s Office in response says that being strip searched “is a harsh, humiliating and degrading act.”
“The Public Defender’s has previously criticized the inappropriate phenomenon of unnecessary strip searches,” it continues. “Even in instances where the Prison Service has the legal authority to conduct a strip search on a person in custody, this should only be done when appropriate, when there is a real suspicion of the transfer of prohibited substances.
“Even when a person loses his freedom, he does not lose his dignity,” it adds.

A federal police team arrived at the village on Saturday and removed the ISIS flag, returning the Iraqi banner to its place.
According to Mohammed, the village is rural, without surveillance cameras, and lacks access to electricity.

Previously, the enemy transferred parts of one of the tank brigades to the Chernihiv region + up to two brigades of the strategic reserve. The potential of the group for the enemy's offensive is estimated at up to 25,000 personnel, 100-120 tanks, up to 600-700 armored fighting vehicles, up to 60 units of barrel artillery (self-propelled guns, towed howitzers) + a certain number of MLRS (including several HIMARS).
The ammunition and equipment now hastily transferred from the EU and the USA are primarily thrown into preparing for the offensive. The same applies to the busification, through which they are trying, among other things, to increase the number of personnel for a potential offensive.
Talk of peace and negotiations is a banal camouflage designed to somehow cover up the preparation for the next stage of escalation.
If we can correctly determine the main areas of concentration and the direction of the main attack, and then provide the necessary defensive measures, the failure of this attack will have the most serious consequences for the enemy. If we miss somewhere, we will get additional operational and tactical problems, which under certain circumstances may interfere with plans for offensive operations in other directions.
So we wait and prepare. The cornered rat will try to rush into attack once more.
[NEWARAB] Iraqi officials have said that the country has no intention of granting asylum to thousands of Syrian soldiers who entered its territory shortly before the collapse of Bashir al-Assad's regime. Estimates suggest that around 3,000 former Syrian army personnel, including both soldiers and officers, are currently under Iraqi custody or supervision mainly in the western Anbar province.
Speaking on condition of anonymity to The New Arab's Arabic language edition, al-Araby al-Jadeed, Iraqi sources said the soldiers, who fled as the Assad government was on the brink of collapse, will not be permitted to remain in Iraq as refugees.
"They will remain hosted by Iraq in the coming period until their situation is resolved and their safe return is guaranteed," one source said. "Iraq is committed to ensuring their well-being while they remain on its territory and once they are sent back across the border."

TNA sent inquiries to the International Committee of the Red Thingy regarding whether the Syrian soldiers could be considered prisoners of war, but had not received a response at the time of publication.
Turki Mohammed, the mayor of al-Qa'im in western Anbar, where many of the soldiers are currently being held, said Iraqi authorities facilitated the Syrian troops' entry once they had surrendered their weapons at the border.
"Iraq received nearly 3,000 former Syrian army combatants, including soldiers and officers, over the past few days," he told al-Araby al-Jadeed.

In a statement, the military said it carried out a dronezap against a group of Hamas ..a regional Iranian catspaw,... and Islamic Jihad terror operatives at a command center, based out of the offices of the Gaza civil defense organization in Nuseirat.
"The compound was used by the gunnies to plan and execute terror acts against IDF troops in the immediate time frame," the military said.
According to the IDF, several terror operatives were killed in the strike, including Ahmad al-Louh, an Al Jazeera cameraman whom the military accused of previously serving as a platoon commander in Islamic Jihad’s central Gaza brigade.
The IDF said it took steps to mitigate civilian harm in the strike, including by using precision munitions, aerial surveillance and other intelligence.
Al Jazeera, meanwhile, said in a statement that it "condemns in the strongest terms the killing of its cameraman, Ahmad Baker al-Louh, 39, by the Israeli occupation forces," whom the network said was "brutally killed in an airstrike that targeted a civil defense post in the market area."
The network added that Louh’s killing came "just days after the targeting of his house" by Israeli forces who "utterly destroyed" it — an accusation to which the IDF did not specifically respond.
The network accused Israel of "systematic killing of journalists in cold blood," as well as "evasion of responsibilities under international humanitarian law."

[Rudaw] The bodies of Naila Mustafa and her 9-month-old daughter Noor who drowned when their boat sank in the Aegean Sea, were returned to Sulaimani on Saturday to be buried in Ranya.
"On November 28, we received news that their boat had sunk in the waters between The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... and Greece. Besides my niece and her daughter, three Afghans drowned," Mustafa’s uncle Ismail told Rudaw, adding that the boat they were on could carry a maximum of 15 people but the smuggler had 32 people aboard.
Ismail said Mustafa and her family decided to leave the Kurdistan Region after her spouse lost his job.
Mustafa’s brother Rasul Mustafa said they have learned that the boat operator and the smuggler are Ottoman Turkish nationals and were arrested by the Greek police.
"The Greek police encountered the smugglers on the way and out of fear of being caught, they quickly turned the boat, resulting in the boat capsizing and five victims," Rasul Mustafa explained at a presser on Saturday.
Speaking to Rudaw the day after the boat sank, Mustafa’s husband Kawez Saadulla also blamed the smuggler for the death of his family.
The boat sank north of the island of Samos, Peshraw Abdullah, a representative of the Returning Refugees Association, told Rudaw after the tragedy.

Kevin Mendiola Jr., 22, died after shielding his girlfriend from the bullets.
In court, three victims recalled their terrifying run-ins with the sick gunman, whose face is tattooed to look like a cracked skull with a cross etched between his eye sockets.
"I call him ’Skeletor,’ " testified a man who dodged McDonnell’s bullets zipping past him as he left the 7-Eleven, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
McDonnell eventually turned his gun on the man’s daughter and 1-year-old granddaughter, who were trapped in a parked car as he menaced them.
"I said, ’Please don’t shoot. I don’t have any money. You can take my car. You can take anything you want. Please don’t shoot,’ " the daughter told the court.
McDonnell then leveled the gun at the baby in the back seat of the family’s car before getting into his own car and driving off.
"I heard him say he was God and that there is an upcoming war coming," the daughter said.
McDonnell’s brother Shawn McDonnell, 34, and Shawn’s then-wife, Kayleigh Lewis, 29, were also allegedly in the killer’s vehicle at the time and joined in on the gruesome mayhem, which lasted 11 hours and continued across the state line into Arizona.
The rampage finally ended after a high-speed chase and shootout with Arizona state troopers during which one officer took a bullet.
Prosecutors said Christopher McDonnell’s sister-in-law was behind the wheel while he and his brother fired from the car’s windows. Lewis was found guilty in the case, although the charges she was convicted of are unclear, and is set to be sentenced in June. Shawn McDonnell is still awaiting trial, according to Fox 16.
Clark County District Judge Tierra Jones slapped Christopher McDonnell with a sentence that means he wouldn’t be eligible for parole until the next century, 2120, KLAS-TV reported.

[NAHARNET] Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called for Syrians who sought refuge in his country to return home following the fall of Syria's longtime leader, Bashar al-Assad.
"The consequences of the Syrian war made Lebanon home to the largest number of refugees per capita, with one-third of our population comprising of Syrian refugees", Mikati said Saturday at a Rome political festival.
"The strain on our resources has been substantial, worsening existing economic trouble and creating fierce competition for jobs and services," he said in English.
"Today, and after the political transformation in Syria, the best resolution to this issue is for Syrians to go back to their homeland," he said.
Authorities say Lebanon, population 5.8 million, currently hosts around two million Syrians, while more than 800,000 are registered with the United Nations -- the highest number of refugees per capita in the world.
Many fled Syria after its civil war began following the repression of anti-government protests in 2011.
Mikati told a festival held by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Brothers of Italy party that "the international community, particularly Europe, should assist in the return of Syrians".
They should do so "by engaging in early recovery efforts in secure areas with Syria", he said.

Later, the boy was wounded, sent to the hospital and never returned to the front. It is known that Sergei Aleshkov graduated from the Suvorov Military School and the Kharkov Law Institute. For many years he worked as a lawyer in Chelyabinsk, closer to his family, Mikhail and Nina Vorobyov. In his last years he worked as a prosecutor. He died early, in 1990. The war years took their toll.

They said at least 11 of the dead were killed in three separate Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City houses. The others were killed in the towns of Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun and Jabalia camp.
Residents said clusters of houses were bombed and some set ablaze in the three towns. The Israeli army has been operating in the towns for over two months.
In Beit Hanoun, Israeli forces besieged families sheltering in Khalil Aweida school before storming it and ordering them to head towards Gaza City, the medics and residents said.
Medics said several people were killed and maimed during the raid on the school while the army detained many men. The number killed was not immediately clear.

Dozens of terror operatives were killed in an overnight raid carried out by troops of the Givati Infantry Brigade in northern Gaza’s Beit Hanoun, the Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday. According to the military, the Givati troops raided an area of Beit Hanoun where there was a “concentration of terrorists” following intelligence information on “the presence of terrorists in the area.”
During the operation, which also involved airstrikes, dozens of gunmen were killed, and several other terror operatives were detained, the IDF said.
In a separate operation in the adjacent town of Beit Lahiya, the IDF added, troops of the Kfir Brigade killed several terror operatives in ground combat and by directing airstrikes. The soldiers also located and destroyed weapons in the area.
Meanwhile, earlier Sunday, the IDF said it carried out an airstrike against Hamas operatives at a command center embedded within a building that formerly housed the Abu Shabak medical clinic in Jabalia.
“The compound was used by the Hamas terrorists to plan and carry out terror activity against IDF troops and the State of Israel, and many weapons used by the Hamas terrorists were stored there,” the military said.
The IDF also said that on Saturday night, fighter jets struck three terror cells in Gaza City, whose members were planning to carry out attacks against troops in the “immediate time frame.”
In all of the strikes, the IDF said it took steps to mitigate civilian harm, including by using precision munitions, aerial surveillance and other intelligence. Gaza-based medics said that nine people were killed Sunday in Beit Lahiya, Beit Hanoun and Jabalia. Residents said clusters of houses were bombed and some set ablaze in the three towns.
The latest operations came amid a months-long IDF offensive against Hamas in the Strip’s far northern towns of Jabalia, Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun, launched in early September. So far, the military estimates that it has killed at least 2,000 operatives during the recent operation, while another 1,500 have been detained, and around 90,000 civilians evacuated from the area. Thirty-four IDF soldiers have been killed so far in the operation.
Israel’s toll in the ground offensive against Hamas in Gaza and in military operations along the border with the Strip stands at 386. The toll includes a police officer killed in a hostage rescue mission and a Defense Ministry civilian contractor.

Additionally, former defense minister Yoav Gallant tells the outlet that the aim of the October 26 strikes — which also targeted air defenses and, reportedly, an active nuclear weapons research facility — was to ensure “Iran is weaker and Israel is stronger,” with Tehran unable to respond to future strikes. No !!! — that one we already knew.
“There is no strategic defense around Tehran,” he says.
Gallant also says that the strikes, which were in retaliation for a massive Iranian ballistic missile barrage on Israel on October 1, created “a window to act against Iran” before it manufactures a nuclear weapon.
The former minister additionally confirms that Israel was behind the strike in April on a radar system for an air defense battery in Iran’s central city of Isfahan. That strike was in response to Tehran’s massive drone-and-missile attack against Israel on April 13.
“We hit them precisely, but it wasn’t enough to deter them,” he says.

Back when the IDF was delivering their response, there was a lot of chatter about how they were wussing out by not destroying Iran's nuke facilities and more military targets instead of hitting air defense sites and factories. Kinda sorta looks like the Israelis are playing the long game.
[IsraelTimes] Students return to classrooms in Syria as the country’s new rulers order schools to reopen in a potent sign of some normalcy a week after rebels swept into the capital in the dramatic overthrow of president Bashar al-Assad.
The country’s new de facto leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa, faces a massive challenge to rebuild Syria after 13 years of civil war that killed hundreds of thousands of people.
Cities were bombed to ruins, the economy was gutted by international sanctions and millions of refugees still live in camps outside Syria.
Officials say most schools were opening around the country today, the first day of the working week. However some parents were not sending their children to class due to uncertainty over the situation.
Pupils waited cheerfully in the courtyard of a boys’ high school in Damascus and applauded as the school secretary, Raed Nasser, hung the flag adopted by the new authorities.
“Everything is good. We are fully equipped. We worked two, three days in order to equip the school with the needed services for the students’ safe return to school,” Nasser says, adding the Jawdat al-Hashemi school had not been damaged.
In one classroom, a student pasted the new flag on a wall.
“I am optimistic and very happy,” says student Salah al-Din Diab. “I used to walk in the street scared that I would get drafted to military service. I used to be afraid when I reach a checkpoint.”

In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah... and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, headquartered in Damascus, that they will be able to retain their charities and conduct political activities under the aegis of the Syrian state, but will not be allowed to use Syria as a base or a point of passage for military actions against Israel.
HTS leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, better known as Abu Mohammed al-Julani, a former al-Qaeda member, has sought to rebrand himself and his group as a moderate force that will stabilize Syria and respect religious minorities, and has indicated that he will not seek military confrontation with Israel.
[NEWARAB] Germany's foreign minister is warning anyone involved in atrocities for the ousted Syrian regime against seeking refuge in her country, saying they would face "the full force of the law".
Germany has been a major destination for Syrian refugees over the past decade, and several hundred thousand Syrian nationals live there. In rulings since 2021, former Syrian secret coppers already have been convicted in Germany for overseeing or facilitating the abuse of detainees.
"To any of (former President Bashar) Assad's torturers who might be considering fleeing to Germany now, I can only say clearly: We will bring all the regime's henchmen to account for their terrible crimes with the full force of the law," Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock told Sunday's edition of the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.
Baerbock called for international security authorities and intelligence services to work closely together.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said Germany is "extremely vigilant" and pointed to border checks that the country already has put in place on its frontiers as it tries to reduce irregular migration.
She told Bild am Sonntag that "no one who participated in atrocities is safe from prosecution here." She said the convictions already handed down show that Germany pursues such crimes rigorously and should act as a deterrent against people involved in them going there.
More broadly, German officials have stressed that many well-integrated arrivals of recent years will be welcome to stay after the removal of Assad, which came after a number of European countries decided to suspend asylum applications for Syrians, and some talk by politicians on sending refugees back. Chancellor Olaf Scholz acknowledged this in a video released on Friday which "deeply unsettled" them.
"Anyone who is working here, who is well integrated, is and remains welcome in Germany," he said. "That goes without saying."
"Some of the refugees hope they can soon return to their homeland. We will support that as soon as the situation allows," he added. But "only the coming days, weeks and months will show what direction Syria takes after Assad."
