[Mil.com] Thousands of U.S. service members who've been sent to operate along the Mexico border will receive a military award reserved for troops who "encounter no foreign armed opposition or imminent hostile action."
The Pentagon has authorized troops who have deployed to the border to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) since last April to receive the Armed Forces Service Medal. Details about the decision were included in a Marine Corps administrative message in response to authorization from the Defense Department.
There is no end date for the award since the operation remains ongoing.
"The Under Secretary of Defense has authorized the Armed Forces Service Medal to service members who have provided support to CBP, starting from April 7, 2018 [until a date to be determined]," said Army Lt. Col. Chris Mitchell, a Defense Department spokesman at the Pentagon.

Their satire hits home. Which is why Snopes is trying everything they can to get them thrown off platforms.
Snopes official Twitter tweeted an article titled “Study: Too Many People Think Satirical News Is Real” and wrote that “stories published by The Babylon Bee were among the most shared factually inaccurate content in almost every survey of this research.”
In this August 16 post, they were well aware that Babylon Bee is a satire website but have switched tactics to instead claim satirical news can be dangerous, saying “In a news cycle full of clownish characters and outrageous rhetoric, it’s no wonder satire isn’t fully registering with a lot of readers.”
The Babylon Bee made a formal response to the study in question, saying “From their view, we're just pretenders, using the label "satire" to our advantage so we can hoodwink the masses.” It later added “It's really extraordinary, especially since they've acknowledged in private communication with us that there is a ‘clear distinction’ between our satire and intentionally misleading fake news.”
[Aljazeera] Jeffrey Epstein wrote a will just two days before his suicide, saying he had about $578 million in assets that he placed in a trust, which could complicate efforts by women who say he sexually abused them to collect damages.
Epstein, who died Aug. 10 in a federal jail cell in Manhattan, asked that Darren K. Indyke and Richard D. Kahn be appointed as executors, according to a copyof the will filed Aug. 15 with the court in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
All of his assets were transferred to the trust as of Aug. 8, two days before he died, assuring that details on how the proceeds are distributed may remain private. The will was first reported Monday by the New York Post, which also published a document detailing Epstein's fortune in real estate, cash, equities and other assets.
The real estate -- from his New Mexico ranch to his Manhattan mansion and private islands -- is held through various entities laid out in the will. The assets listed are similar to those in Epstein's unsuccessful bail request.
The valuation does not include his art collection, which is subject to appraisal, according to the document.
Indyke had served as an attorney for Epstein, the financier indicted on charges of conspiracy and trafficking, accused of sexually abusing dozens of girls. He pleaded guilty more than a decade ago to state prostitution charges in Florida, admitting to soliciting an underage girl. Epstein's estate is expected to face many lawsuits by women who claim he abused them when they were children.

But once on the ground in Mexico, from where they hope to smuggle their contraband into the United States, those tiny planes will be greeted by a swarm of Mexican law enforcement. "Even this airplane weighing 100,000 pounds ‐ we can sneak up behind them and they won’t see us. And with the sensors we have on the airplane, a lot of times we don’t even have to get that close," said Dan Jordan, a supervisory air interdiction agent for U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations.

We've been seeing stories like this in the news for as long as I can remember and yet there has never been a shortage of illegal drugs on the street. I don't believe for one minute that compassion for poor immigrants is the reason why so many in Congress refuse to secure the border.

The New York Daily News quoted King saying, "They are weapons of mass slaughter." He added, "I don’t see any need for them in everyday society."
The Democrats’ "assault weapons" ban is sponsored by Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI), and has the support of nearly 200 Democrat Representatives.
On August 14, Breitbart News reported that the "assault weapons" push became central for Democrats after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) signaled his willingness to take up gun control when the Senate reconvenes in September. McConnell said that universal background checks will probably "lead the discussion," but he also said an "assault weapons" ban would be front and center.
King has been focused on background checks but recent events renewed his focus for an "assault weapons" bill. He said, "I think the assault weapons ban is timely now, especially in view of the shooting in El Paso and Dayton."

Like a number of US states, Minnesota has a labour shortage - specifically a skills shortage - and seeing his valuable experience disappear overnight would have left Alexandria's management with big shoes to fill.
According to the US Department of Labor, since March 2018 US monthly job vacancies have outnumbered unemployed job seekers. As the baby boomers reach retirement, it seems there are not enough millennials in the jobs pipeline ready to step in.
"We have a labour shortage and it's going to be a problem for the next couple of decades as the boomers leave the workforce," says Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's Analytics.
So, one answer for companies struggling to find staff is to ask workers like Mr Klug to put off retirement. He did.

As long as business treat employees as bottom line costs and not as assets, they don't deserve consideration. Those that refuse to spend on employee training because its a cost not an investment can go without. Nothing stops employers from signing contracts that trade training for a set time of employment to retain a ROI. When you treat them all as replaceable cogs in the machine you put yourself into that position of making some people irreplaceable. The problem is cemeteries are filled with irreplaceable people.

[Breitbart] Nearly two weeks after the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency raided five food processing plants in Mississippi for their hiring of hundreds of illegal aliens, no employers have yet been charged, federal records reveal.
This month, ICE agents conducted the largest workplace raid in more than a decade across five food processing plants in Mississippi, netting the arrests of 680 illegal aliens. That same day, however, ICE officials said they released about 300 of the illegal workers back into the U.S. on "humanitarian grounds." More than 200 of the illegal workers had prior criminal records. The raids have already resulted in job fairs at some of the plants seeking to hire locals.
Despite federal affidavits alleging widespread exploitation and fraud at the five food processing plants, charges against the employers who are accused of "willfully" hiring the illegal workers have yet to be brought by federal prosecutors, the Clarion Ledger reported.
To date, only 40 of the 680 illegal aliens have had charges brought against them since the ICE raid.
Federal affidavits, as Breitbart News noted, allege that the food processing plant employers were fully aware that hundreds of their employees were illegally in the U.S. and in some cases, illegal workers said they were not asked for work authorization documents.
An Oakland Park man attacked a jogger with a sword in an attempt to protect a plastic dump cart that had been thrown out in the trash, police said Monday.

If I were the proud boys I'd have some spies join Antifa Portland and get as many names as possible of Antifa members as possible and to record evidence...
The list of members could then be used in case of a lawsuit, or to inform their employers/parents of their activities, or to go after their employers if the employers support Antifa, or simply to sew dissension among the scumbags and get them hunting for spies and purging their ranks.

The disadvantage that the Right has here is that almost everyone will be employed or in some trade, indisposed for 24/7 of this shit. Antifa will be composed of unemployed welfare collectors and people on the DNC payroll. They can get paid holidays for this 'duty'.
Secondly, spreading mayhem and chaos needs no training or coordination. You just provide a direction for a mob and of it goes. While targeted crusade requires training, tactics and coordination. I'm not sure the 'proud boys' will have that. Clearly they need help.

"If you want intelligence to be good on the current wave of domestic terrorism ‐ what people call right-wing extremism, Neo-Nazi extremism ‐ I don’t think people realize how tough that target is," Philip Mudd, who is now a counterterrorism analyst, told Hill.TV in response to a question about how security officials should prepare for the future.
"It’s dispersed, that’s people in every state, but it’s also a civil liberties issue," he added.
Mudd said the first step towards combating white nationalist-fueled violence is re-evaluating the nation's political rhetoric.
"Either side of the political spectrum, you cannot validate their anger," he said in reference to members who identify as part of the Neo-Nazi movement.
"You can’t even get close to saying it’s appropriate to look at a foreigner in this country or an immigrant or an asylum seeker and say that person is less than you," he added. "It’s not a political statement, it’s what I saw with Al-Qaeda."
Mudd also said lawmakers need to take congressional action against homegrown hate groups like the Ku Klux Klan.
"That means laws that say, ’hey, groups that committed acts of violence ‐ how about the KKK, you want to go after them? They’ve committed acts of violence for political reasons ‐ that’s terrorism," he said. "The politicians have to provide cover."
The mass shooting in El Paso, Texas has renewed calls to address the rise of domestic terror attacks. Federal authorities believe the suspected shooter, who killed 22 people, was motivated by hatred of Hispanics and immigrants.

Culture is an important factor when one talks about crime. Are black criminals different from white ones ? Decidedly so.

Judicial Watch has been investigating the origins of the Obama administration investigation of alleged Trump-Russia collusion.
The ruling came in Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for records of communications and payments between the FBI, Christopher Steele and his private firm, Orbis Business Intelligence.
The court initially had allowed the government to say it couldn’t confirm or deny the records.
But last year, some government records were declassified that revealed Steele’s role as an FBI informant and his firing by the FBI in November 2016. So the Judicial Watch case was reopened.

The recent trip to Venezuela by a group calling itself a Chicago Teachers Union delegation has upset some union members and expats who question the point of the tour and take issue with the group's praise of the country's disputed government.
The four travelers, who crowdfunded the July trip under the banner of the CTU, met with Venezuelan government officials and educators, visited a commune and were featured in local media.
They wrote online about wanting to connect with Venezuelan teachers, students and unionists, criticized U.S. economic sanctions against the South American nation and wrote admiringly of its socialism, its communes and high literacy rates.
But critics say the group glossed over Venezuela's ongoing political and economic crises and were excessively complimentary of President Nicolás Maduro, whose administration has been accused in recent United Nations reports of "grave" human rights violations and violence against dissenters.
"I am appalled a delegation representing themselves as CTU went to Venezuela, not to support striking teachers, not to object to human rights violations, but to go on what appears to be a state-chaperoned propaganda tour," said Karen Moody, a teacher and union member.
And though the four travelers regularly called themselves a "CTU delegation" online, the union representing close to 25,000 people has sought to distance itself from the trip, stating the CTU did not endorse, sponsor or fund the trip.
Asked on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" last week about "some controversy" surrounding the excursion, union President Jesse Sharkey said: "Members go all kinds of places in the summer. This was neither an official trip nor something that was funded by the union. This is a group of people who are members of the CTU who decided to go to Venezuela."
Yet, the official CTU Twitter account retweeted some of the group's updates, including a blog post titled "Introduction to CTU Delegation to Venezuela."
CTU also retweeted another post by teacher Sarah Chambers, one of the travelers and a member of the CTU executive board, which read: "While staying in #Venezuela, we didn't see a single homeless person. USA is the richest country in the world; yet, there are homeless people everywhere. Over 17k CPS students are homeless... This is why @CTULocal1 is fighting for fair housing #CTUAgainstVezIntervention."

[Libya Observer] Security services in Benghazi have found a human head without a body in a building under construction in Qawarsha district, west of Benghazi, local residents said.
The security services handed over the head to al-Jalaa Hospital for Surgery and Accidents to be referred to the forensics, in order to be identified.
The head has started decomposing and the forensics suggested that it has been cut off ten days ago.
Mysterious murders are rife in Benghazi amid unprecedented insecurity.
[DAWN] Four people have died and nine were maimed after being attacked by a patient in a psychiatric hospital, Romanian press reports said on Sunday.
They said a 38-year-old man who had admitted himself to the hospital in Sapoca, northeast of the capital Bucharest, entered a treatment room and attacked other patients with a transfusion stand.
Three of the patients suffered head injuries and died at the scene while a fourth died later in hospital, the reports said.
Among the nine injured in the attack, two were in a coma, they added.
"Everything happened in less than a minute," hospital director Viorica Mihalascu was quoted as saying.
"This patient was admitted on a normal surveillance level. His symptoms did not give an indication that a tragedy was imminent," she told Antena 3 television station.

The Russians are far weaker in Syria than they pretend, but the same S-400 air defense platform that Erdogan has bought from Putin, is operated by Russian forces in Syria. It would impose heavy costs on the Ottoman Turkish air force in any fight.
That said, weakened at home, Erdogan may see a short escalation as a chance to rally his nationalist-Islamist base, then extract a cease-fire on better terms.
Over the past four years Erdogan has gone back and forth between resisting axis ambitions (in an effort to make himself the father-protector of Syrian Sunnis), and bowing to Putin. Alongside numerous other incidents, Monday's air strike proves that Putin retains the initiative.

“The security forces have cordoned off all the targeted areas while the military aviation provided the necessary security protection to the invading forces,” Obeidi said, while indicated that the offensives came within an operation to clear all desert areas and secure them from the threat of the criminal group.

An Afghan groom whose wedding ceremony was hit by a suicide kaboom in Kabul on Saturday evening says the tragedy has taken happiness from his life forever.
Interior Ministry says 63 people were killed and more than 180 others were maimed in the blast claimed by ISIS.
The blast happened at around 11:40 pm when the elders were attending the Nikah ceremony and female guests were having dinner, eyewitnesses said.
Mirwais Alani, 26, who was engaged with Roeena, 18, seven months ago, worked for months to celebrate his wedding.
"I would have never organized this ceremony if I knew that such an incident happens," Mr. Alani said.
"I was supposed to return happy, but within span of two hours, they devastated my whole life. They devastated my life within seconds," he added.
Mr. Alani said the government has failed to provide security to the people.
"We had done nothing wrong to anyone, but our lives were devastated," the groom added.
His brother, Basir, said described the attack horrific and said he heard a huge blast sound at first and then he saw that three everyone was on the ground.
"People work day and night to make their lives, but the things go like this and their wishes and dreams are ruined," the groom’s relative Mohammad Aref said.
The bride’s 11-year-old brother was also killed in the attack.
Despite that, Mirwais and Roeena have tied the knot and they have to live together with the bitter memories.

[AlAhram] Some 3,500 Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh have been cleared to return home to Myanmar beginning this week, a top official said Monday, nearly two years after a military crackdown sparked their exodus.
Some 740,000 Rohingya fled to Bangladesh in August 2017 from a military offensive in Myanmar -- joining 200,000 already there -- but virtually none have volunteered to return despite the countries signing a repatriation deal.
Bangladesh refugee commissioner Mohammad Abul Kalam, however, said he was "optimistic" about a new repatriation process scheduled to start on Thursday.
A previous attempt in November 2018 to return 2,260 Rohingya failed after they refused to leave the camp without guarantees for their safety.
"Everything is ready... the land transit point has been prepared," Kalam told news hounds after a meeting with Myanmar officials in Cox's Bazar, southeast Bangladesh, where the refugees live in vast camps.
"Nobody will be forced to return unless they volunteer," he said.
Bangladesh and Myanmar officials plan to repatriate 300 Rohingya each day, with some 3,500 refugees cleared to make the journey home, Kalam said.
The new push follows a visit last month to the camps by high-ranking officials from Myanmar led by Permanent Foreign Secretary Myint Thu.
Sunday will mark the second anniversary of the crackdown that sparked the mass exodus to the Bangladesh camps.

"Decisions on depriving a dual national of citizenship are based on substantial advice from officials, lawyers and the intelligence agencies and all available information," the office said in a statement.
Letts, who has been held in a Kurdish prison for two years, told ITV in February that he wanted to return to Britannia because he considered it his home.
In 2015, he posted on Facebook that he would like to perform a "martyrdom operation" on a group of British soldiers.

"A school is a weak target," Wix allegedly said. "Id be more likely to open fire on a large crowd of people...I already have a location (laughing cry face emoji) is that bad?"
At one point, cops said he flat-out acknowledged that he could be arrested for his words.

Israeli prosecutors on Monday charged a 21-year-old Jordanian man who attempted to knife a police officer and confessed to planning to stab an IDF soldier last month.
The indictment filed at the Haifa District Court charged Mohammad Maslah with planning to carry out a deadly terror attack, aggravated assault and other charges.
The indictment called him a Jordanian citizen, according to Hebrew media reports.
According to a police statement released after the indictment was filed, two officers patrolling late on July 22 in the northern city of Hadera noticed the suspect sitting alone at a bus stop on Hanasi Street. They approached him and began to question him.
The young man turned out to be a Paleostinian with Jordanian citizenship residing in the West Bank village of Deir al-Ghusun, near Tulkarem, who had entered Israel without an entry permit.
In later questioning, Maslah said he had arrived in the West Bank from Jordan in June, and was living with his sister for a month before sneaking into Israel.
One of the officers informed Maslah he was under arrest, but as he attempted to cuff him, Maslah allegedly resisted, then pulled out a knife with a 17-centimeter (7-inch) blade. According to police, Maslah then attempted to stab one of the cops and expeditiously departed at a goodly pace.
The officers gave chase, called in reinforcements, and eventually caught up to Maslah and ordered him at gunpoint to drop his knife.
According to police, Maslah then shouted "holy shit! Allahu akbar," or "God is greater," and lunged at an officer. The officer fired a single shot into the man’s left leg, causing him to collapse to the ground. Maslah was lightly to moderately injured by the gunfire, and taken to the city’s Hillel Yaffe Medical Center.
No police were hurt during the incident.
According to police, Maslah said during questioning that he got the knife from his sister’s home, entered Israel through a gap he found in the security fence around Tulkarem, and jumped on a bus to Hadera.
Once there, he said he spent the day looking for a soldier to stab. That remained his plan later that night as he sat at the bus stop where the officers first encountered him.

The Governor’s Office of Nangarhar said in a statement that six bombs went off in Jalalabad city earlier today.
The statement further added that the earth-shattering kabooms maimed at least 17 people in the 1st and 4th districts of the city.
Furthermore, the Governor’s Office said the security forces had earlier discovered and defused six bombs from various parts of the city.

Afghanistan's independence day was marred by bloodshed Monday when a series of explosions shook the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, wounding dozens of people including children.
As many as 10 blasts were reported in and around the city in Nangarhar province, authorities said, and casualty numbers appeared to be rising.
"The explosions were caused by IEDs in different parts of the city and as groups of people were celebrating independence day," Nangarhar governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogyani said, referring to improvised explosive devices.
Jalalabad is the scene of frequent bomb attacks, and the surrounding terrain is home to both Taliban fighters and the Islamic State group's local affiliate.
At least 19 people were wounded, Khogyani said. Zaher Adel, a spokesman for a local hospital, said about 40 wounded people had been brought in with more expected.
This year's August 19 celebrations mark 100 years of Afghan independence from British influence.
Although Afghanistan was never part of the British Empire, it gained its independence from Britannia after the signing of the Anglo-Afghan Treaty in 1919 ‐ a treaty that granted complete neutral relations between Afghanistan and Britannia.

A series of bombings struck restaurants and public squares on Monday in the eastern Afghan city of Jalalabad, wounding at least 34 people, officials said, as the country marked the 100th anniversary of its independence.
The Jalalabad bombs were planted near a market where hundreds of people had congregated after attending Independence Day events. Senior health official Fahim Bashari said at least 34 people were maimed.
[DAWN] A mysterious fire erupted on Sunday at a government primary school for girls in Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan, police said on Monday.
While the nature of the fire is not clear as yet, a police officer told DawnNewsTV on condition of anonymity that some miscreants had apparently set the furniture and books in the school on fire.
The incident comes a year after 14 schools, several of them girls-only institutions, in Diamer district were torched in a single night by miscreants. A local journalist said that the school where the fire occurred over the weekend was one of those 14 schools.
Police officials said they could not find any clue or indication of a short circuit or some other accident having caused the fire. However, it was a brave man who first ate an oyster... an inquiry was launched to ascertain the cause of the blaze.
Meraj, the chairman of a local schools committee, approached police to file a case against the inferno, however, no case had been filed till Monday evening.
The chairman contended in his application that anti-education elements target schools time and again, so action should be taken against them.
Diamer is the lowest-ranking district in terms of quality of education in GB, and among the 10 lowest-ranking districts in Pakistain.
There are 244 government schools in the district, about 83 per cent of which are primary level, 10.6pc middle schools and 6pc high schools. There are no higher secondary schools in the district. Of the total number of government schools, 156 are boys schools, while 88 are girls-only schools, according to Alif Ailaan.

Sangasar mayor Nahro Aabdulla said the bombings, which targeted apparent Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) positions, took place at around 9:30 in the morning. Another resident told Rudaw the ambulances were finally able to transport the injured to a hospital in Ranya around 12:00 pm.

They have been replaced by government-appointed officials. the problem is that leprosy is not easily detectable in its early stages and we are letting in large numbers
leprosy is curable but it takes a six month treatment with multiple drugs so it is almost impossible to manage this with a large population of homeless people

[Rudaw] More than 100 individuals have been executed in Iraq since January, with a staggering 8,000 more on death row, according to Iraq's UN-approved human rights ...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions... body.
The execution figures came from Iraqi Ministry of Justice data that was reviewed by the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, according to one commission member.
"According to the data of the Iraqi Justice Ministry that have been reviewed by the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights, over 100 people have been executed in Iraq," Hemin Bajalan told Rudaw English on Sunday. "There are 8,022 prisoners in Iraq convicted with execution."
Iraq has one of the highest rates of execution in the world, and is ranked in the top four along with Iran, Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... and China, according to Human Rights Watch's 2019 report, which documented the year prior.
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi’s government has not made public the number of executions it carried out this year, according to the watchdog.
"Iraqi authorities handed down hundreds of death sentence ...the barbaric practice of sentencing a murderer to be punished for as long as his/her/its victim is dead... s to those convicted under counterterrorism legislation and carried out executions without publicizing any official numbers or sharing this information with international actors," Human Rights Watch report read.
The trials were also rushed and were sometimes based on a single confession or missing victims' testimonies, according to the report.
The 100 plus figure marks a big increase in Iraqi executions. In 2018, more than 52 recorded executions took place in Iraq, according to a report from Amnesia Amnesty International.
The more than 8,000 people with death sentences is also a striking increase from 2018. At the end of that year, Amnesty reported that there were more than 285 people with death sentence.
There are 26 prisons throughout Iraq that contain at least 37,113 prisoners. Of those, 18,306 are imprisoned on terrorism charges, according to an August report by the Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights.
Two officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Justice Rudaw spoke to declined to discuss the execution figures.
In the Kurdistan Region, Sulaimani authorities confirmed in May that they executed an ISIS bad boy from Baghdad after he was detained in Kirkuk in May.
'BAD CONDITIONS'
At present, there is not enough room in the Iraqi penal system to accommodate all those locked up, according to Bajalan.
"Due to the bad conditions prisons in Iraq are facing, the prisoners are finding it difficult to fit into one prison," he said. "For that reason, Iraq should deliver more facilities to the prisons."
Other observers have noted poor conditions in Iraqi prisons as well. According to a July report also by Human Rights Watch, prisons in the Nineveh province feature overcrowding and "degrading conditions." Some of the prisons in Nineveh are supposed to house a maximum capacity of 2,500 people, but are holding around 4,500 prisoners and detainees. Women and children are among those in the prisons, according to the organization.
Nineveh police have denied inhumane conditions in the prisons and rejected the Human Rights Watch report, calling it "not true."
Iraqi politicians visited the prisons in July, and described the overcrowding and conditions there as "tragic" and "catastrophic."

Acting BOP Director Hugh Hurwitz, who had been at the helm of the country’s prison system since last year, has been reassigned, US Attorney General William Barr said.
Barr did not say where Hurwitz will now be working but said the agency’s former director, Kathleen Hawk Sawyer, will succeed him at the helm. Sawyer served as the BOP’s director from 1992 to 2003, the AG said in a statement.

A State Department notice released Monday says the ban will remain in place until Aug. 31, 2020, unless revoked by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
