[JPost] - Officials in Seoul and Tokyo summoned Israeli diplomats on Sunday to protest Israel’s ban on the entry of people traveling from South Korea and Japan due to the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
The ban on South Koreans entering Israel began on Sunday while the block on Japanese nationals will come into effect at 8 a.m. on Monday. Israel has also banned entry from people who were in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Thailand and Singapore in recent weeks.

Never-Trumpers fleecing the sheep
[Breitbart] The majority of the money spent in the first four months of operations by The Lincoln Project, a Super PAC founded by George Conway and other "Never Trumpers," has been paid to consultants affiliated with the project.
From its inception in November 2019 until February 21, 2020, The Lincoln Project has reported $180,624 in expenditures, according to its Federal Election Commission filings. At least $135,274 of these expenditures were paid to firms owned or affiliated with individuals listed as advisers to the group, or directly to the advisers themselves.
CNBC reported the details of the group's public launch in December:
A super PAC led by a group of "Never Trump" conservatives has raised over $400,000 since it launched Tuesday.
The committee, known as the Lincoln Project, raised the sum from over 5,000 individual donors, with an average contribution of of $77, according to the group’s treasurer, Reed Galen. The top donation was for $10,000.
"We are truly honored by the outpouring of grassroots financial support that The Lincoln Project has received in just its first two days. It is a testament to the untapped reservoir of Americans ‐ Republicans, Democrats and Independents ‐ who believe our country deserves better than the leadership we have today," Galen said. "We will work as hard as we can to ensure that next November, Donald Trump is a one-term president."
Galen noted that the organization had a strong day of fundraising Wednesday while President Donald Trump was being impeached in the House of Representatives.
The PAC’s list of advisors include several conservative critics of Republican Trump, including Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway’s husband, George Conway, as well as two former strategists for the late Sen. John McCain, Steve Schmidt and John Weaver.
According to its website, the mission of The Lincoln Project is to "Defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box."

Mexico grows almost half avocados sold globally, nicknamed as 'green gold'
US sales have risen almost fivefold this century and have also surged in the UK
Almost all of Mexico’s avocados are grown in fertile volcanic soil of Michoacán
About 20 gangs, including Los Viagras and Jalisco New Generation, have seized 35 per cent of the £1.9 billion sector in this state alone
One collective of 40 farmers is being forced to pay £500K a month to gangsters
Michoacán became one of the most blood-soaked parts of our planet after cartels fought to control vast profits from cocaine, heroin and cannabis
The price of heroin has crashed due to synthetic opioid alternatives, cannabis is legal in much of North America – and violence has surged in Mexico with a record toll of murders as gangs diversify into avocados and mining
Just 10 years ago, there were nearly 30,000 acres of avocado trees growing in such places as Fallbrook, Valley Center, Bonsall and the San Pasqual and Pauma valleys.
Today that number has dwindled to between 18,000 and 22,000 acres, experts say, and the trend is expected to continue downward for the next couple years before stabilizing at around 15,000.
The big farmers — the ones with groves ranging from 40 to 800 acres — will survive as they keep investing in their business by replanting for higher density and upgrading to more efficient irrigation methods.
The good news is that some of the groves are being replaced by vineyards that produce some pretty good wine which will only get better as the vines become better established and the roots grow deeper.
Bad news is you may feel a pang of guilt as you dip your chip into your guacamole.

Abu Uluque, will that change now that President Trump has ordered more water be released to the farmers?
Experts' views have led to many scouring the online markets for WW2 incendiary munitions and even the archaic but (reportedly) effective RPO launchers and their 'bobcat' napalm grenades used in the 'Nam. [FoxNews] Philip Haney, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) whistleblower who was an outspoken critic of the administration of former President Barack Obama, was found dead Friday, about 40 miles east of Sacramento, Calif., local authorities said.
Haney, 66, "appeared to have suffered a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound," the Amador County Sheriff's Office said in a release. Sheriff and coroner Martin A. Ryan shared the initial details of the case.
"On February 21, 2020 at approximately 1012 hours, deputies and detectives responded to the area of Highway 124 and Highway 16 in Plymouth to the report of a male subject on the ground with a gunshot wound," the release read.
"Upon their arrival, they located and identified 66-year-old Philip Haney, who was deceased and appeared to have suffered a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound. A firearm was located next to Haney and his vehicle. This investigation is active and ongoing. No further details will be released at this time," the office added.
Haney was recently in contact with DHS officials about a possible return to the agency, the Washington Examiner reported, adding that he was also engaged to be married.
In June 2016, Haney testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he alleged that the Obama-era DHS had ordered him to delete hundreds of files about reputed associates of Islamic terrorist groups. Haney made the case that several attacks in the U.S. could have been prevented if some of the files had not been deleted, the Examiner reported.

Rank speculation here. China was recently humiliated by Trump and had to sign a trade deal. What if they leaked this virus in retaliation, knowing that it would tank the world economy? From their standpoint, why not? They could lose 100,000,000 people and never notice.

What if they leaked this virus in retaliation, knowing that it would tank the world economy?
It would be a pyrrhic victory — China’s economy is a good deal less stable than America’s, and it would be seen domestically as the Communists having lost the mandate of heaven.
There is enough information out there to make this an accidental release of a biological weapon
There is nothing about this virus that is naturally occurring

If you can see the image, you can click on the tweet itself to get the article, if there is one — the headline goes to the twitter post. I think of bare bones tweets, those having no accompanying article, as akin to rumours awaiting soldi confirmation. Also, I personally don’t have the attention span to monitor twitter feeds for the needles of soldi information in the haystack, so I am grateful others are willing to sift that for us.

The president became "furious" with senior advisers after learning the 14 Americans who tested positive had been put on a plane with healthy passengers, according to The Washington Post. “These individuals were moved in the most expeditious and safe manner to a specialized containment area on the evacuation aircraft to isolate them in accordance with standard protocol,” the State Department and Department of Health and Human Services said in a joint statement Monday.
If you knew that you weren't suppose to transport infected people why did the plane have a specialized containment area to handle all those people? Someone needs their butt shipped to Utqiagvik, AK.
If the virus is still rapidly evolving as it adapts to humans this could be an adaption to the existing quarantine's selective pressure giving advantage to strains that work slower and cause milder symptoms.

So what is the over/under on this virus? 60,000 have it, 2,500 dead. 3.5-4% morbidity? 3DC do you have any statistics? Comparative analyses? Is it killing across the board at the same rate or higher at the older generations and the poor? I get the panic, I get the press but is this pandemic going to reduce a large number of humans or just make us all really sick for a period of time. The press is selling the end of the world and I'm not sure we are seeing it, I just cant believe anyone in any position of power now.

Ok, in the be careful what you ask for department. I am worried. Lots of escapes from the lab in that area. Signs that this virus has markers ties to HIV. The collector that first alerted to the issue found murdered. Surviving it the first time does not insure your good to go. Catching it a second time your antibodies attack your heart and kill you. They have 85 + incinerators on site running full time. Statistics would show a greater than 10% morbidity in the population. So if we follow the rule of misinformation, 10% is accurate, I really don't know what to think.

Evolution doesn't do strategy or long term planning. Only immediate reproductive advantage counts.
Not everything is good news btw.
If fecal transmission is a relevant vector selection will favor high virulence since even a gravely ill individual will contaminate sewage and a high virus load in the excretions is the key to viral reproduction.

So if we follow the rule of misinformation, 10% is accurate, I really don't know what to think.
Be prepared, then compose yourself to calm waiting until we have more information. If it is a worst case, Black Plague situation, it will spread until it burns itself out. Still, it is supposed to be most serious for those who are unhealthy and have high ACE-2 receptors in the deep lungs, supposedly significantly more prevalent among the Chinese than other population groups. So the odds are better for fewer strong reactions to infection here, with resulting lower morbidity.
Nontheless, collect supplies for a 28-day quarantine, including bleach and alcohol wipes, wash your hands every two hours, and don’t touch your t-zone (eyes, nose, mouth) with unwashed hands. And as much as possible, avoid airports and hospitals until further notice. Whatever the virulence of this thing, we’ll do better in the West than they are in China, simply because we are healthier and the majority of us have less susceptible genomes.

They have lung issues in a larger population group than we do. They are still a heavy smoking population with a very heavy airborne pollution issue that does affect their overall health status and ability to fight viruses. Not a genetic issue, more an environmental issue.

Apparently Han Chinese and related peoples have a significantly higher incidence of the genetic variant that results in more ACE-2 receptors, Herb. Meaning non-Han Chinese should be less susceptible than their Han countrymen, the dreadful environmental impacts of heavily polluted air, water, and soil, and a history of poor diet and heavy smoking among the men being equal.

All the Rantburgers reading this should follow Trailing Wife's advice here.
Just working out the implications of 8 dead in Iran means that those 8 people were sick for about 9 days and asymptomatic for about 5 days. Given that as best we can tell only 2% of the infected die, that means 14 days ago 400 people were infected in Iran. If they spread the infection with an R0 of 3 for only their asymptomatic days, that means about 100,000 Iranians could be infected today.
Given the Iranian interest in Syria and a known fecal transmission route, all of the Syrian refugee camps are about to light up in the next week. That is at least a million people.
Then there are the Uyghur camps and all of Africa that we have no information about.
This thing is out of the bag. It almost certainly will come to your town at least once over the next year, and you will spend a couple weeks working from home.
He leaked information about China, so moving this to P. 3: Non-WoT
.[BREITBART] U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) counterterrorism analyst Henry Kyle Frese pleaded guilty on Thursday to leaking information to the press in 2018 and 2019.
According to a DIA blurb, Frese faces up to 10 years in prison for leaking sensitive military information from five separate classified documents. Frese was employed by the DIA as either a contractor or employee from January 2017 to October 2019.
Over the course of two years, Frese illegally obtained and distributed classified military intelligence information to two journalists. But court filings state that the information was published in eight articles written by the same journalist ‐ Amanda Macias, a national security news hound for CNBC, and Frese’s girlfriend at the time.
Court documents claim Macias later asked Frese via Twitter direct messages whether he would share the information with another journalist whose identity has not yet been disclosed. Frese then "searched on a classified United States government computer system" to obtain the information requested.
"Frese violated the trust placed in him by the American people when he disclosed sensitive national security information for personal gain," Assistant Attorney-General for National Security John Demers said. "He alerted our country’s adversaries to sensitive national defense information, putting the nation’s security at risk."
In a statement released by the Department of Justice, Virginia District Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger said the case should "serve as a clear reminder" that "unilaterally disclosing such information for personal gain, or that of others, is not selfless or heroic, it is criminal."
Frese was arrested in October. He pleaded guilty to two charges of "willful transmission of national defense information" on Thursday. He will be sentenced in federal court on June 18.

[NEWS.YAHOO] A northwestern Indiana couple allegedly used a car to force two teenage boys off a road, angered that the twin brothers were riding bicycles adorned with flags supporting President Donald Trump ...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US... , before ripping one of the sibling's flag from his bike, police said Friday.
Hobart police said Snapchat videos helped officers secure charges against Kyren Gregory Perry-Jones, 23, and Cailyn Marie Smith, 18, in connection with a July 22 incident.
Police Capt. James Gonzales said the Hobart couple are accused of driving in their car, running the 14-year-old boys off of the road, and making threats toward them.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the boys told officers that a vehicle with a man driving and woman passenger followed them before the male driver pulled up nearby and asked one of the boys "if they were Trump supporters" ‐ to which the boy replied that they were.
The driver then swerved at the boys, forcing them onto roadside grass to avoid being struck, according to the affidavit. The driver followed the boys before exiting the car and tearing off the flag from one of the brother's bikes, the affidavit states.
The driver dropped the flag, which was affixed to the bike with fishing pole, ran back to his car and drove off, "but not before running the flag over," it states.
Both Perry-Jones and Smith have been charged with two felony counts of intimidation and criminal recklessnes. They were also charged with one count each of theft and criminal mischief, both of which are misdemeanors.
Smith was in jug but Perry-Jones remained on the lam Friday evening, police said. Online court records do not list attorneys who could speak on behalf of either of them.
Gonzales said the charges weren’t filed until Thursday because there was a delay in detectives getting information from Snapchat, The (Northwest Indiana) Times reported.
In a video posted to Snapchat, allegedly by the couple of their encounter with the boy, shows "the driver turns the wheel sharply as if he saw the boys and wanted to hit them with the vehicle while yelling `ya'll better get home,'" according to the affidavit. A male's voice is then heard telling the female passenger "pull that flag down" in the video which shows the female trying to reach it through her window and her saying, "get closer."
"The female is then heard saying `ya'll scared, just like your president'' and `America is not great'" followed by an expletive, according to the affidavit.
In a second Snapchat video, Perry-Jones alleged says, "Don't let me see you downtown" to one of the boys and threatens to beat him up.

Allawi’s recent nomination to be Iraq’s next leader is a dead end, for Iraq and the United States alike. He has no chance of resolving the two fundamental crises now plaguing the country: first, the collapse of legitimacy of Iraq’s post-2003 political class, and second, Iraq’s ever-expanding subjugation by Iran and its local Shiite Islamist proxies. The United States would be well advised to keep its distance from Allawi’s candidacy and instead focus its energies on supporting the extraordinary protest movement that has upended Iraq’s politics since late last year, and whose demands for sovereignty, independence, and clean government represent the last best hope for salvaging not just Iraq, but the future of U.S.-Iraqi relations as well. [KhaamaPress] The United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... released its latest report on civilian casualties in Afghanistan which documents up to 10,400 civilian deaths and injuries during the year 2019.
The UN Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in a statement said "The new report documents 3,403 civilians killed and 6,989 injured, with the majority of the civilian casualties inflicted by anti-government elements."
UNAMA further added "It is the sixth year in a row that the number of civilian casualties has exceeded 10,000."
"The figures outlined in the new report ‐ released jointly by UNAMA and the UN Human Rights Office ‐ represent a five per cent decrease over the previous year, mainly due to a decrease in civilian casualties caused by Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. It also added "Civilian casualties caused by the other parties increased, particularly by the Taliban ...Arabic for students... (21 per cent increase) and the international military forces (18 per cent increase), mainly due to an increase in improvised bomb attacks and Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s."

[TAMPABAY] The three men who held up a CVS Pharmacy on New Year’s Day planned their moves meticulously. The robbers hit at 5 a.m. They wore blue surgical gloves so they wouldn’t leave prints. They waved guns at employees and bound several of them with zip ties. Detectives would later review store surveillance video that showed one of the suspects casing the place the day before.
And they made off with a boatload of drugs in white garbage bags ‐ more than 10,000 pills that contained the opioids hydrocodone and oxycodone, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. It had an estimated street value of about $320,000.
But as detectives investigated the area around the store, located at 30387 U.S. 19 N, they started noticing pill bottles, according to an arrest warrant. The robbers, it appeared, had emptied the bottles as they made their getaway, then tossed them out the window of their car.
Detectives started following the pill bottles like bread crumbs, eventually leading to a house at 1045 West Ave. There, they found the same White Chrysler 200 that had been recorded on surveillance camera fleeing the scene. White cotton and a pill bottle cap lay on the ground nearby.
The deputies detained the two men inside the Chrysler: Christopher Rachell Jr. and David Dobbins, both 19. They matched the descriptions of two of the robbers seen inside the store, detectives said.
They found more evidence on Dobbins’s cellphone. He had recorded videos of the suspects in the same room as a bed strewn with pills and clear plastic baggies. Videos also showed them handling a white garbage bag near the pills ‐ the same type of bag with which the suspects were seen fleeing, reports state.
The videos helped them identify Roy Lampkin as a collaborator. The 18-year-old could be seen in the video handling a clear plastic bag that contained round white pills, reports state, and his fingerprints were found on one of the white garbage bags and on a plastic bag of opioid pills.
Though the warrant does not name Lampkin as one of the suspected robbers, it says he was captured on CVS’s surveillance video before the crime. He entered the building at about 3:52 a.m. on Jan. 1 and asked the pharmacist a question. He was arrested on Feb. 5 on charge of drug trafficking.
Rachell and Dobbins were arrested Jan. 1. Each faces one count of armed robbery, two counts of trafficking in illegal drugs and three counts of false imprisonment. Dobbins remains in the Pinellas County jail, held in lieu of $280,000 bail. Rachell, who also faces a charge of possession of oxycodone, is being held in lieu of $282,000 bail.

[Guardian] A homeless man has appeared in court charged with stabbing a prayer leader with a kitchen knife at a London mosque.
Daniel Horton, 29, is accused of grievous bodily harm and possession of a bladed article. He appeared at Westminster magistrates court on Saturday. Horton spoke only to state his nationality as British and confirm his name and date of birth.
Raafat Maglad, 70, was treated in hospital for stab injuries after being injured at London Central mosque in Regent’s Park on Thursday.
Maglad, known as the muezzin ‐ the person who makes the call to prayer ‐ returned to the mosque for Friday prayers less than 24 hours after the incident.
The prosecutor, Tanyia Dogra, said Maglad suffered a 1.5cm wound to his neck. She told the court the victim and defendant were known to each other because Horton had been attending the mosque for a number of years.
Horton, who the court heard had been sleeping rough since last year, was remanded in jug to appear at Southwark crown court on 20 March.

[Jpost] The fact that the ties between Paleostinian civil society groups and terrorist organizations have significantly deepened over the years should alarm anyone.
A tactic made famous by Yasser Arafat, Paleostinian leaders have a long and rich history of saying one thing to Western audiences, and another thing entirely to their own Paleostinian audience. If recent reports are any indicator, that tradition has expanded to Paleostinian NGOs, which are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars from the EU and Europe ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... an governments. The recent reports from the Israel’s Ministry of Strategic Affairs paint an alarming picture of how terrorist organizations like the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP) are actively and intentionally using Paleostinian NGOs to collect funds and promote goals of internationally recognized terrorist groups.

Iran = no quarantine when they evac'd their "important" people from Wuhan. Pretty simple they didn't want to inconvenience the high and mighty.
There is a thought that Iran may be the source of the Italy infections.
Korea it may have been a "super spreader" (infects multiple people, shows no signs of the illness, think "Typhoid Mary") at a specific church.
This will rip thru North Korea once it gets there, given the malnutrition and lack of modern medicine, and complete information isolation they live under. What happens when Pudge loses 6% of all his military aged men?

[IsraelTimes] A Paleostinian man in Jerusalem’s Old City tried to stab coppers on Saturday in an attempted terror attack before he was rubbed out by officers.
Police said the assailant was spotted with a knife by Border Police officers at the Lion’s Gate as he ran to carry out an attack.
"[The officers] called on him to stop and he turned around toward them with the aim of harming them. The police responded quickly while firing toward him, neutralizing him and preventing harm," a statement from police said.
Police did not provide details on the identity of the suspect, who was named by Channel 13 news as 33-year-old Maher Ibrahim Za’atara of East Jerusalem’s Jabel Mukaber neighborhood.
The incident comes a day after a Paleostinian woman tried to stab passerby at a popular promenade in Jerusalem. The woman, reported to be a Paleostinian from East Jerusalem, tried to stab people at the Armon Hanatziv promenade several times with a knife, United Hatzalah said in a statement. One man suffered very mild injuries and did not require medical treatment.
The Ynet news site interviewed Itzik Itach, who it identified as one of the people who grabbed the assailant.
“She shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is Greatest) and tried to stab a passer-by,” Itach said. “We jumped at her and I held her until a police car came.”
United Hatzalah paramedic Yechiel Maiberg said: “I was walking in the area when I heard shouts. Civilians were spooked by a woman brandishing a knife. I ran at her and knocked the knife out of her hand. With the help of civilians we subdued her until the police officers arrived.”
[ToloNews] Farmers and factory owners in the capital say they are now waiting for more than 100 tons (metric) of pine nuts to be exported to China.
The alternative being getting close to various Chinamen silently infected with coronavirus and bringing it home, whereas now they can offer their crop to those who previously bought Chinese pine nuts...
The Chamber of Commerce and Investments admitted that flights to China are suspended due to the spread of the coronavirus.
"It's been a long time since our export to China first stopped. Our warehouses are full of pine nuts," said Sher Ali Zadran, pine nut businessman.
According to companies exporting pine nuts, one kilogram of pine nuts in a Chinese market will sell for up to 2,800 Afghanis, and each kilogram of clean pine nuts in these markets can earn up 7,000 Afghanis.
"Although flights to China have declined, this has not had much impact on our exports. We are already exporting to other countries around the world," said Sayed Zaman Hashemi, the CEO of Chamber of Trade and Investment.
The pine nut export season starts every year in September and lasts for up to three months, but this year, due to delays in exports to China, bulk pine nuts that were prepared to be exported to China have remained in warehouses.

[LATimes] When President Trump ticks off his accomplishments since taking office, he frequently mentions his aggressive makeover of a key sector of the federal judiciary ‐ the circuit courts of appeal, where he has appointed 51 judges to lifetime jobs in three years.
In few places has the effect been felt more powerfully than in the sprawling 9th Circuit, which covers California and eight other states. Because of Trump’s success in filling vacancies, the San Francisco-based circuit, long dominated by Democratic appointees, has suddenly shifted to the right, with an even more pronounced tilt expected in the years ahead.
Trump has now named 10 judges to the 9th Circuit ‐ more than one-third of its active judges ‐ compared with seven appointed by President Obama over eight years.
"Trump has effectively flipped the circuit," said 9th Circuit Judge Milan D. Smith Jr., an appointee of President George W. Bush.
To assess the early impact of these appointments, The Times interviewed several judges on the 9th Circuit. Some either declined to discuss their colleagues or inner deliberations or refused to be quoted by name, saying they were not authorized to speak about what goes on behind the scenes.
To be sure, some of the new appointees to the 9th Circuit have quickly won the respect of their colleagues. But the rapid influx of so many judges ‐ most without judicial experience ‐ has put strains upon the court and stirred criticism among judges appointed by both Democratic and Republican presidents.
"Ten new people at once sends a shock wave through the system," a 9th Circuit judge said. Much more at link

2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton lashed out at Donald Trump Friday characterizing her former rival as “Putin’s Puppet” following new reports that Russia is attempting to interfere in the upcoming presidential election.
“Putin’s Puppet is at it again, taking Russian help for himself. He knows he can’t win without it. And we can’t let it happen,” Clinton wrote on Twitter in response to an NBC report that the acting Department of National Intelligence chief was replaced over an intelligence briefing delivered to lawmakers regarding Russia’s efforts.

It's all so confusing. Isn't that just like those diabolical geniuses?
Diabolical indeed, if you consider their goal simply to be disruption. You don't want to kill anyone, just increase the friction in their national processes.
By playing both sides, you get both teams angry and no matter who wins, the losers can point and say the Russians helped. Collusion! Illegitimate Election! Trust in government is reduced. Suspicion and worst between citizens increases. Not bad for a day's work!

[ToloNews] The Taliban ...the Pashtun equivalent of men... fought with Afghan cops in eight provinces of the country in the first day of the reduction in violence plan, according to reports sent by the public to TOLOnews.
The festivities were reported in Faryab, Uruzgan, Paktia, Balkh, Baghlan, Badghis, Helmand ...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan... and Kapisa provinces.
With the start of the reduction in violence, TOLOnews asked the public across the country to text information about attacks to a WhatsApp number. 400 people sent messages, and many of them simply expressed support for the reduction in violence. However, facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable... messages also came in reporting festivities between the Taliban and the Afghan cops in eight provinces of the country.
Meanwhile, ...back at the shootout, another bullet hole appeared in Butch's hat...... the Afghan acting Minister of Defense Assadullah Khalid confirmed that in the first 12 hours since the reduction in violence was in effect, the Taliban launched some attacks in various regions, and the Afghan forces defended themselves against those attacks.
"Violence has declined significantly. Only a few minor attacks were reported in some areas that are not serious," said Khalid.
The Taliban’s front man Zabihullah Mujahid on Twitter stated that the reduction in violence agreement places the following areas off limits: "The centers of all provinces, all corps (Afghan military corps), units, divisions (Afghan army divisions) and all foreign bases." In areas not on this list, Mujahid said, "any shelling and attacks by the (Taliban fighters) shouldn’t be taken as a violation, because this is not a nationwide ceasefire."
Details are not available about any casualties from the attacks today.
"When the two sides are still armed, there is a need for more caution, because even a small provocation by a commander or a soldier can affect the entire process," said military analyst Atiqullah Amarkhel.
This comes a day after the NATO ...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions... Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the announcement by the United States and Taliban about a reduction in violence.
He said that this is a critical test of the Taliban’s willingness and ability to reduce violence, and contribute to peace in good faith.
"This could pave the way for negotiations among Afghans, sustainable peace, and ensuring the country is never again a safe haven for terrorists," he said.
What is the reduction in violence agreement?
At 12:00 midnight (Afghan time) on Friday, Feb. 21 (the morning of Saturday, Feb. 22), a reduction in violence plan kicked off that is intended to last for seven days. Upon its successful completion, according to statements by the US and Taliban, a peace deal negotiated between the two sides over the past 18 months in Doha, will be signed. The expectation is that this signed agreement will lead to intra-Aghan talks between the Taliban on one side, and a delegation representing the Afghan republic's government and political and civil establishment, on the other.
Iran will close schools, universities and educational centers in two central cities to prevent a deadly coronavirus outbreak spreading, according to a report.https://t.co/OCAWfcGFvI
[Jpost] Iranians are scared and angry. Their government has been lying to them and their media was instructed not to report on the coronavirus outbreak as it rapidly spread from the religious city of Qom to other cities. On Saturday, Tehran was awash with rumors and riots occurred in the city of Talesh on the Caspian sea due to a quarantine.
"The situation inside the hospital is very scary and terrifying," one man tweeted. "Even the hospital medical staff, some of whom are infected with the coronavirus, are terrified." In Isfahan medical students protested at the local University of Medical Sciences due to lack of protective gear. Iranians are well educated and they know the risks as their government tried over seventy hours to stop the spread of information about the crises.
By Saturday evening at least six people were dead but official figures put the number of infections only in the twenties. In fact rumors were spreading that the numbers could be in the hundreds or a thousand cases. In Iraq the authorities moved to shut the border and stop Iranian pilgrims from coming from Qom. In addition Iran ...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... sought to clamp down on travel. A Lebanese woman returning from Qom tested positive in Leb. Leb’s Health Minister, who is linked to the pro-Iranian Hezbollah, said everything was in order.
In The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor... the authorities, acting on information they received from Iran that was not available for the media, sought to monitor and interdict Iranians who might have the virus. Kuwait also expressed concern over Iranian arrivals and travel to Iran. In Iraq’s Maysan the governor decided to try to prevent Iranians from arriving. Already the virus was in Tehran, Rasht and other cities. Governments in the region, evidently aware of the crises more than Iran’s people were aware, began to seek to stop Shi’ite pilgrims from going to Iran.
Yet Iranians were urged by their government to congregate in confined spaces on Friday to vote. The regime wanted the turnout to grow beyond the 11 million who were estimated to have voted.
Yet Iranians were urged by their government to congregate in confined spaces on Friday to vote. The regime wanted the turnout to grow beyond the 11 million who were estimated to have voted. The government, seeking to censor information on the spread of the virus, likely contributed to misinformation by pushing the polls to stay open later with a national health emergency looming. Yet Fars News, Tasnim and other news outlets did not warn of the crises. The only information came later on Saturday when reports said that there was price gouging for protective medical masks. Anadolu, a Ottoman Turkish news agency, photographed dozens of people in Iran already wearing the masks. The government sought to put price controls on masks so people could afford them.
In the afternoon on Saturday officials moved to close all schools on Sunday and Monday. A mayor, named Mortaza Rahmanzeda of a district in Tehran was taken to hospital. Rumors claimed he was badly ill from the virus. Other officials appeared to be concerned they might be sick. Mohsen Rafsanjani, head of the city council of Tehran, said he was visiting a hospital. By the evening Iran’s media announced universities would close. But media still wasn’t allowed to report the reason. Educational facilities, according to Fars News, will be closed in Tehran, Alborz, Qazvin, Markzai, Qom, Hamedan, Isfahan, Gilan and Mazandaran provinces. There are thirty provinces in Iran, but there are the most central. It appears the virus may not have spread to outlying areas, such as the Kurdistan region. But the Kurdistan region of Iraq is taking no chances, quarantining people in Soran and considering to close the border. In Pakistain also some voices are calling for border closures. In Iran some expressed anger at Mahan Air and other airlines for continuing to fly pilgrims.
The Minister of Science spoke out Saturday about the coronavirus precautions. He urged people at University to visit health center "as soon as they feel symptoms of a cold, flue or the like. Take the necessary measures to treat them at the centers. In Alborz a university head encouraged most people not to wear a mask. He said that news about the virus must come only from the Ministry of Health and that people should avoid rumors. There are no cases in the province, he claimed, according to ISNA in Iran.
The lack of response by authorities and rumors have caused a tense situation in Iran. It also appears to be contributing to the spread of the virus to other countries. Iraq’s Moqtada Tater al-Sadr ...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, though lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics... flew home to Iraq as the virus spread in Qom. Oddly he did not have to be quarantined. Iran is already on edge because of protests last year where the authorities killed 1,500 demonstrators. But the authorities continue to provide little information on the extent of the outbreak. A head of a unit at Qom University said he had received no statistics. Women at a university in Tehran protested the lack of information. In Talesh people continued to protest mysterious closures and quarantines. Tear gas was used outside at least one hospital. In Rasht fires were lit and the authorities cracked down on protests. "They resort to oppression instead of a solution to the coronavirus crises," wrote locals.
News programs in the evening in Iran gave advise on wearing masks and cleaning one’s hands. But they didn’t explain how to best prevent the spread of the virus. They gave only "comfort" one woman tweeted, complaining of the lack of information.

[THEWEEK] Former Vice President Joe Foreign Policy Whiz Kid Biden ...Old, boring, a plagiarist, fond of hair sniffing and grabbing the protruding parts of women, and not whatcha call brilliant... has a pretty good tale to share ‐ but it may be a little tall.
Biden, who is running for president, has been spicing up his recent campaign stump speeches with a story of how he was arrested while in South Africa trying to see Nelson Mandela, The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize... reports. But that recollection of events has only recently come to light, and it was reportedly omitted from Biden's 2007 memoir that detailed his escapades in the country around that time.
During recent campaign speeches, Biden says he "had the great honor" of meeting Mandela and "of being arrested with our U.N. ambassador on the streets of Soweto." As Miami Herald news hound Alex Daugherty points out, Soweto is a ways away from Robben Island, where Mandela's maximum security prison was located.
The arrest, which has seemingly only been brought up publicly by Biden in the last few weeks, was not found referenced anywhere by readily available news outlets, per the Times.
The U.S. ambassador to the U.N. from 1977 to 1979 was Andrew Young. While Young reportedly acknowledged going to South Africa with Biden, he said he was never arrested in the country, and he told the Times he didn't think Biden had been arrested there either.
"I don't think there was ever a situation where congressmen were arrested in South Africa," Young told the Times, although he did say some people were being arrested in Washington.
The story, which was seemingly nonexistent before a few weeks ago, has been told three times on the trail as Biden heads into Nevada and South Carolina, where he needs to pull in big numbers in order to counteract a lackluster showing in Iowa and New Hampshire.

[Jpost] The "Classic Days" auto show in Berlin’s main shopping district was cancelled because "the anti-Jewish al-Quds day demonstration was permitted by the authorities at the same time."
The "Classic Days" organizer Frank Peppel told the paper that on May 16 a hate demonstration will take place. "It's a shame for Berlin," said Peppel, adding "Several hundred thousand visitors have to give way to murderous Moslems who protest against Jews."
Peppel told the paper that he applied for a permit in May 2019 for the Classic Days and heard nothing from the authorities for six months. In early January, the authorities told him that the Al Quds Day has priority.
The founder of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, launched the Al Quds Day in 1979 calling for the destruction of Israel. Al Quds is the Arabic word for Jerusalem. The Berlin Al Quds demonstration has been held each year since 1996 in the capital.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel ...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslem colonists... and Berlin mayor Michael Muller have ignored appeals over the years from the Israeli and American governments, as well as Germany’s Jewish community, to ban the antisemitic rally.
Al Quds in Berlin is attended by members and supporters of the EU and US designated terrorist organizations Hezbollah and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine. In addition to the operatives from Iran’s chief proxy, Hezbollah, German neo-Nazi ...adherents of a philosophy that was seen even at the time as pure evil, which makes them either consciously and purely evil, or attention-seeking ratbags. Pick one, or both.... s have participated in the event.
Germany’s government refuses to ban all of Hezbollah in the federal republic, where 1,050 Hezbollah members and supporters raise funds and recruit new members, according to German intelligence reports reviewed by the Post.
The Federal Republic has merely banned Hezbollah’s so-called "military wing" in Germany. The Arab League ...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing... , Israel, Britannia, the US, Canada, and many Latin American countries have classified Hezbollah’s entire movement a terrorist entity.
[BREITBART] Los Angeles Times film critic Justin Chang said Friday on CNN that President Donald Trump ...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party... mentioning the movie "Gone With the Wind" at his rally was a "racist dog whistle."
Chang said, "It’s kind of unfortunate, I think, that we have a president whose entire presidency is founded on xenophobia and of course his comments are not surprising coming from someone who likes to dehumanize people of other cultures and people of color. So none of that’s surprising."
He continued, "Well, that whole thing, "Gone with the Wind" and "Sunset Boulevard," that all smacks of a dog whistle hearkening back to an earlier era of Hollywood greatness. Look, we can love "Gone with the Wind," and also acknowledge it’s the romantic view of the old South, which many people find problematic. That is another racist dog whistle as well."
He added, "I think it’s real laziness on his part. He is just someone who is very lazy. I think to say that. You know, a lot of people say this, there are no movies being made in the present today that are as good as the classics that were made 50 or 60 years ago. And it’s totally fine that Trump is, you know, out of touch with popular culture. You know, he has or should have better things to do like running the country, but he really should think twice about speaking about things of which he is so woefully ignorant." Does that last paragraph make sense to anyone?... Bueller?
I like Trump. Not being a dog, I can't hear his whistle. He's obviously not lazy, since he's on the go all the time, so that's nothing but political calumny.
I also like Gone with the Wind. It's a great movie, based on a great book. Racist? I suppose, by today's mealy-mouthed lights, but it was made eighty five years ago. It's about events in the 1860's, in an area where slavery was a fact of life. It holds together still, better than, for instance, Birth of a Nation, which is only twenty years older. It's the character studies that make Gone with the Wind, not tedious Race Relations® (which is why they don't regularly re-release Birth of a Nation).
Look at the characters:
Scarlet - Selfish, self-centered, and unlettered, under a thinly civilized shell. See the part where Rhett suggests naming her store the Caveat Emporium.
Rhett - Strong, manly, brave, and cynical, with a marshmallow layer over a steel core. There are layers to Rhett, and without the layers the movie and the book would have flopped.
Ashley - A nice man, but ineffectual. A good argument against inbreeding, which one of the minor characters comments on early in the book.
Melanie - A sweet person, and loyal to Scarlet, refusing to see her shortcomings. Melanie's more of an ideal than a real-life character.
Mammy - Wise and strong. Without Mammy, Scarlet would have been just another background character in her own book. Hattie McDaniel received an Academy Award for the part, and it was well-deserved.
Prissy - The anti-Mammy, a brainless dipshit.
Mose - Loyalty. He's just a field hand, but he's a good man. Notice that Scarlet and all her family are kind to him (and all the slaves, note) and Mose is loyal in return.
Frank Kennedy - Barely anybody home there, a will o' the wisp, but again, he's loyal to Scarlet because of what he believes she is, even after she lied to him to steal him from her sister.
Jonas Wilkerson - The overseer. You know you're gonna hate him. Scarlet's mother dismisses him for diddling Emmy Slattery.
Aunt Pittypat - The comic relief, full of airs and graces and not a lick of sense.
Then there's the background of the Civil War. It starts out with nifty uniforms and hoorays, and it ends with little Phil marching off to defend Atlanta and never coming back. Mose, Mammy, and Po'k are Scarlet's friends and supports; they all work together after the defeat, rootin' taters and pickin' cotton to survive. Scarlet's mother dies trying to help the trashy Slatteries, who are no account ingrates lacking the class of Mose the field hand.
I'm still looking for the dog whistle in here. It's a good movie, set at the end of a different civilization. It's got blacks in subordinate positions, but that's not what it's about. Maybe Mister Film Critic needs to watch it again.

Well, since you're the one hearing the claimed dog whistle I'd recommend taking some time to inspect your views on humans based on their skin colors.

I suppose a remake is in order, more in consonance with today's prevalent standards. This one would be aptly named 'Gone To The Dogs'.

If I had to definitively say which profession had its biggest concentration of useless, snotty and self-important types, without a doubt it would be the professional 'critic'. Not even close.

What's lazier than a film critic who doesn't know when the film being criticized was made?
Gone With the Wind - 1939 - That's 80 years ago.
It was beforehand an incredibly popular book, authored by Margaret Mitchell. I wouldn't expect a cutting edge film buff educated to the point as deserving the title of critic to know such things.
In fact, it was the first book to out-sell the previous record holder, Ben Hur. Now the Ben Hur we know, 1959, is not the first movie made based upon the Lew Wallace (Union Army General among other things) but we are closer to that 50-60 years thing. So, by all means, let's compare the chariot race from Ben Hur to the chariot race in Star Wars Episode 1.
For some 40 years, Ben Hur was literally the most popular story after the Bible. The only story to top that reign was Gone With the Wind, even before the movie was made. And that held reign some twenty years until the second Ben Hur movie was made, re-igniting interest in that story.
I know he didn't say Space Jam 2, but a lazy choice? Hardly.
[IsraelTimes] Pro-Palestinian activist Brad Parker on Friday said that Belgium rescinded an invitation for him to address the UN Security Council, which it currently chairs, after being pressured by Israel.
%z, a senior advisor at Defence for Children International-Paleostine (DCI-P) had been invited by Brussels to address the UN over allegations of rights abuses in Israel and the Paleostinian territories.
Israel claimed he was too biased to address the forum and summoned Belgian diplomats to protest the invitation.
Parker told AFP he would no longer address the body after being informed that the parameters of the meeting had changed.
"What I have been told is on Monday the Belgian government has changed the briefing to be closed consultations, which effectively means I won’t be speaking," Parker told AFP, adding he was "deeply frustrated."
He said he had planned to give an "evidence-based statement" on "grave violations in Israel and the occupied Paleostinian territories from 2014 to the end of 2019."
"It is frustrating once again the political context has worked to silence our voice."
The Ynet news site reported Israeli diplomatic officials were pleased by Belgium’s decision.
DCI-P describes itself as working to protect "the human rights ...which often include carefully measured allowances of freedom at the convenience of the state... of Paleostinian children."
Israel says the NGO’s board includes individuals affiliated with the leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, considered a terrorist organization by the Europe ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... an Union, the United States and Israel.
Foreign Ministry front man Lior Haiat said Parker is "known for extreme positions against Israel."
Israel’s ambassador to Belgium and Luxembourg, Emmanuel Nahshon, wrote on Twitter earlier this month that inviting Parker to speak created "unnecessary tension" that was "easily avoidable."
Parker said the Israeli allegations against him were "an attempt to silence legitimate human rights work that exposes the reality for children impacted by Israeli military occupation."
Israel summoned a top Belgian diplomat twice earlier this month over the issue, while the Belgian foreign ministry summoned Nahshon to censure him for retweeting a tweet critical of Brussels’s choice to invite Parker.
[AlAhram] The Cairo Criminal Court acquitted Alaa and Gamal Mubarak, the sons of ousted president Mohammed Hosni Mubarak ...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011... , and others, in the case known in the media as "manipulating the stock exchange" on Saturday.
The court also postponed its rule on preventing nine defendants accused in the same case from disposing of their money, including Gamal and Alaa Mubarak, till 11 March.
