Afghanistan
Afghanistan: Taliban to rely on Chinese funds, spokesperson says
[Aljazeera] With the help of China, the Taliban will fight for an economic comeback in Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid tells Italian newspaper.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has told an Italian newspaper that the group will rely primarily on financing from China following the withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan and its takeover of the country.

In his interview published by La Repubblica on Thursday, Mujahid said the Taliban will fight for an economic comeback with the help of China.

The Elites' Battle for the Future America
BLUF:
[Of Two Minds] America's elites are fracturing along multiple tectonic fissures: while the conventional media focuses on the ginned-up bread and circuses of Red and Blue political games (i.e., The Purple Empire), the real conflicts are within the camps running the Red and Blue games, the Imperial Project of global hegemony (a.k.a. The Deep State), the New Nobility of Big Tech attempting to overthrow the Old Nobility, the Nationalists versus the Globalists and the Financial Gamesters versus The New Foundation.

These are my informal acronyms, of course, but the conflicts are real and intensifying as extreme policies reach new extremes and the risks of breakdown increase.

The most dangerous elites are the ones clinging to the perverse but compelling faith that the Federal Reserve and Treasury can conjure endless trillions of U.S. dollars without any consequence other than continued global hegemony, the faith that the Federal Reserve has god-like powers to tweak the dials so that 1) the U.S. dollar remains the pre-eminent reserve currency 2) but not so strong that it sinks the emerging market economies and 3) magical enough that there are no limits on how many can be absorbed by global stock, bond, debt, risk and commodity markets and 4) remains the primary method of limiting the global financial leverage of geopolitical rivals. Uh, sure. No problem, the Fed is all-powerful, right?

Iraq
Four injured in ISIS attack near Kifri
[Rudaw] Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) Death Eaters on Tuesday night attacked a village in a disputed area near the southern Garmiyan administration, injuring four people, a Peshmerga official told Rudaw on Wednesday.

Militants launched a mortar attack on Islah village, near Kifri, injuring two women, according to commander of the Garmaser front Mahmood Sangawi. Kifri is administered by the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) but is part of the swathes of territory disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.

ISIS also attacked Iraqi forces, injuring two of their ranks, Sangawi added.

ISIS takes advantage of a lack of coordination between Peshmerga and Iraqi forces in often rugged areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad. Militants have conducted around 134 attacks in disputed territories so far this year, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga Jabar Yawar told Rudaw on Monday, noting that most of the attacks took place in areas between Kifri and Tuz Khurmatu, as well as in eastern and western Kirkuk.

On Tuesday, the group grabbed credit for an attack on a village in southwest Kirkuk. It used rocket-propelled grenades (RPG), according to villagers, killing at least 25 cows and seven sheep and goats, and burning five cars and tractors and two houses.

Baghdad and Erbil are working to close the security gap. This summer, they established four joint coordination centres in the disputed provinces to improve their cooperation and they are in talks to create joint brigades.

Afghanistan
The Taliban leader who trained with the Indian Army
Now we know.
[OneIndia] Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai
...Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, Head of the Taliban political office in Doha. He was a member of Rassoul Sayyaf's group in the war against the Soviets....
is one of the seven persons who calls the shots in the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
which recently took over Afghanistan. It was Stanikzai who met with Ambassador Deepak Mittal, India's envoy in Qatar

They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
on Tuesday.

Stanikzai had trained under the Indian Army at its institutions in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The meeting between Stanikzai and Mittal was the first diplomatic contact with the Taliban.

Stanikzai is the head of the Taliban's political office in Qatar, a release from the Ministry of External Affairs said. The meeting took place in the Indian Embassy at Doha, the statement also read.

Stanikzai trained in the Indian Army in the Army Cadres College, Nowgaon as a Jawan between 1979 and 1982. He then trained as an officer at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.

When the Taliban last controlled the country, he was the Deputy Foreign Minister. He is well travelled and a rare leader in the Taliban who is fluent in English. Stanikzai was Abdul Hakim Haqqani's deputy negotiator in the talks that were held with officials of the earlier Afghanistan government. He had also visited Washington DC in 1996 to convince the Bill Clinton

Guantanamo Tribunal Finishes Arraigning Southeast Asian Terror Suspects
BLUF: Hambali and two Indonesian associates, who have been in American custody since 2003, were arraigned in a court marshal at GITMO without entering a plea. At some point the next stage of the proceedings will be scheduled.
[BenarNews] The arraignment of three Southeast Asian terror suspects before a U.S. military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay wrapped up on Tuesday but without any of the defendants entering a plea and their lawyers expressing frustration and doubt about the fairness of the proceedings.

The two-day court appearance was the first for Indonesian Encep Nurjaman, who is more commonly known as Hambali
...real name Riduan Isamuddin, close personal friend of Osama bin Laden, one of the founders of Jemaah Islamiyah and the planner of the 2002 Bali bombings. He was captured with the help of a mid-Eastern intel service, shipped to Guantanamo to rot but he'll likely be released eventually because that was a long time ago and we were all so much younger then...
, and for Malaysians Mohammed Nazir bin Lep and Mohammed Farik bin Amin since they were locked up at the American navy base in Cuba 15 years ago. All three men were arrested in Thailand in 2003 and sent to secret CIA-operated "black sites" before being moved to the military prison at Guantanamo Bay in 2006.

Britain
Over 2,000 Illegal Migrants Land In Britain in First Half of August
[Breitbart] Over 2,000 illegal boat migrants colonists have successfully crossed the English Channel from La Belle France since the start of the month, putting August on pace for a record number of alien arrivals.

Last Thursday, a record 592 illegal migrants colonists arrived at the Port of Dover, eclipsing the previous daily record of 482, which was set just over a week prior. The migrant boats continued over the weekend, with another 150 landings on Sunday.

The latest crossings take the total for the month to approximately 2,049 according to calculations made by the Daily Mail. This puts August on pace to break the previous monthly record of 3,509, which was set last month.

To date, approximately 11,464 boat migrants colonists have reached British soil since the start of the year, compared to 8,410 for the entirety of 2020.

Despite constant promises and pledges from Home Secretary Priti Patel to crack down on the migrant routes, the boats have only increased in number and in size, with people smuggler gangs using larger and often unseaworthy vessels to ferry migrants colonists from the beaches of La Belle France.

Appearing on GB News on Monday morning, Brexit leader Nigel Farage predicted that the failures in Afghanistan will lead to another wave of illegal migration into Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and ultimately the UK.

Mr Farge also predicted that the young men who comprise the overwhelming majority of illegal migrants colonists will claim to be from Afghanistan, as many already destroy their travel and identity documents prior to reaching British shores in order to make deportations more difficult.

The issue may be compounded by the fact that Defence Secretary Ben Wallace pronounced on Monday that the British government would be dropping passport requirements for asylum seekers from Afghanistan.

"If some of them are genuinely from Afghanistan, how do we know that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
or other murderous Moslem groups aren’t using this route to get their operatives into our country," Farage questioned.

Mr Farge went on to criticise Home Secretary Priti Patel for her failures to enact meaningful change amid the growing migrant crisis.

"There is no deterrent whatsoever, the only concern anyone would have crossing the Channel would be the sea conditions," he said.

"We already have numbers that we simply can’t cope with, the four-star hotels are booked, they are running out of accommodation," the Brexiteer added.

Mr Farage has long been a proponent of adopting a similar strategy to that taken by former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott, who unilaterally sent back illegal boats to Indonesia under his Operation Sovereign Borders policy, which resulted in 900 straight days of zero illegal boat migrants colonists reaching Australia by 2017.

"There is only one way to stop this and that is to tow the boats back into Calais harbour and by doing that the French government will come to the negotiating table," Farage said.

"At the moment, we have a situation in which Macron refuses to have a summit with the British even though it is long overdue... and until the French understand that we are simply not going to put up with this any longer, it will continue," he warned.

Mr Farage has predicted that by the end of the year, some 30,000 illegal migrants colonists will have crossed the English Channel from La Belle France.

Afghanistan
Arming Afghan Guerrillas: A Huge Effort Led by U.S. (Published 1988)
[NYTimes] With help from China and many Moslem nations, the United States led a huge international operation over the last eight years to arm the Afghan guerrillas with the weapons they needed to drive the Soviet Army from their country.

The operation is one of the biggest ever mounted by the Central Intelligence Agency, according to American officials and foreign diplomats. It dwarfs American efforts to aid the Nicaraguan rebels, but its details are much less widely known because it encountered little opposition in Congress.

Indeed, Congress was continually prodding the C.I.A., the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the State Department to provide more support for the Afghan guerrillas, who limped along with relatively ineffective weapons until they got Stinger antiaircraft missiles in September 1986. They used the missiles to shoot down armored Soviet helicopter gunships, and as a result, the guerrillas and their supply caravans have been able to move with much less fear of being attacked from the air. Cost Totals $2 Billion

Director of MRC Latino, Jorge Bonilla, posted an interview of Pardo-Maurer. Pardo-Maurer, who was in the State Department for years, since at least 2001, said he was being told that the Department of Defense already knew who the bomber was ahead of time, before the bombing and when the Kabul attack would occur.

This goes along with a report that we did previously that they knew when and where it was likely to occur.

The report of intelligence communications indicated that the U.S. knew generally where and when the attack would occur at the Kabul airport, even that the gate where the attack occurred — the Abbey Gate was at "highest risk."

How do we know this report likely is true? Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby refused to talk about it and railed against leaking intelligence.

But Pardo-Maurer went further in his interview. He said not only did they know where and when it would happen, but that they had a Predator drone lock on the bomber, but that "they" refused to grant permission to take the guy out. "[Permission] was requested and was denied," he said. Why? "Because we are in this process of negotiating with the Taliban who aren’t even in control of their own government or their own people."

So is he really saying what it sounds like he’s saying? Because it sounds like he’s saying that we had the shot to take this guy out but they were afraid of angering the Taliban if they took the shot. Yikes. So not only had we outsourced our security to the Taliban. But we wouldn’t even properly protect our own people because it might disturb the enemy. We are truly living in a bizarre reality at this point with the Biden team.

I’m thinking those reporters who were questioning Kirby yesterday have to go back to him with this: What did you know and when did you know it? And who gave this order not to take the bomber out? Why was this bomber not taken down? Does this go back to Joe Biden’s famous "risk averseness?" Heads need to roll in the administration over all these failures. But, of course, the biggest problem is the failure at the top which is why everything else is such a disaster.

#1  Is there any accurate reporting as what happened at Abbey Gate? I listened to two Gold Star parents who lost their sons at the AG bombing. They spoke of details I was unaware of. For instance, one father spoke of a firefight prior to the bomb blast.

#2  I too read some reports of a "complex attack" (IED accompanied or followed by Small Arms Fire).

My sense is the Taliban gate guards, having been tipped off about an approaching VBIED (Vehicle Borne IED) opened up on the car and everyone else, with light machinegun fire.

I have seen NO reporting of Taliban KIA or wounded relative to the VBIED. Likewise, I have seen NO reporting of the 'cause of death' or cause of injuries of any of the dead or wounded.

Inconvenient truths can oftentimes be found in things not discussed.

#3  Indeed, and perhaps a closer look at the drone strike that supposedly killed 2 ISIS-K leaders whose names nov one knows as well as the family heading to HK Airport. How about that? This is what you get when you team up with the Taliban. Yes, it gets worse.

Fighting Continues Between Taliban, Resistance Forces
[ToloNews] Fighting is ongoing between Taliban
...Arabic for students...
fighters and the forces of a resistance front lead by Ahmad Massoud in Panjshir province.

The Taliban confirmed that the fighting has been ongoing for two days and both sides have suffered casualties.

"Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate were attacked from some circles in Panjshir who bluff and say they will resist. The Mujahideen reacted to the attack and as a result the other side has suffered heavy casualties," said Anaamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban's cultural commission.

Residents at the front lines in the Nasaji-Gulbahar area, which is just outside of Panjshir valley, say the fighting resumed last night and is still ongoing.

According to locals, most of the people have fled the area.

"The fighting started at 10pm last night and is still going on," said Baba Shirin, a resident of the area.

Members of the resistance front, meanwhile, said that they pushed back the Taliban attack on Panjshir and that the Taliban has suffered heavy casualties.

"In the past 40 hours the Taliban launched some offensives on Khawak from the Andarab valley of Baghlan. From our side, there were local forces of various districts of Andarab, local forces of Panjshir as well as the ANSDF forces. They fought back very well; they defeated the Taliban on that front. The Taliban lost 40 of their personnel, another 35 of them were maimed," said Fahim Dashti, a front man of the resistance front.

The Taliban denied attacking Panjshir, saying that their forces were attacked by Massoud supporters and that they only responded to the attack.

Amid the ongoing fighting, Amir Khan Muttaqi, a Taliban leader, said on Wednesday that the talks between both sides have failed so far.

He said, however, that the Taliban still wants to resolve the issue peacefully.
Islam means surrender, after which there is peace, of a sort.
Al Ahram adds:
As the last US soldiers boarded their flight out of Afghanistan in the Kabul dark late Monday, residents of Panjshir said the Taliban had attacked the valley on two fronts -- the Khawak pass in the west, and from Shotol to the south.

"Perhaps they wanted to try their luck," NRF official Fahim Dashti said in a video posted Tuesday by the US broadcaster Voice of America's Dari language service. "By the grace of God, luck wasn't on their side."

Dashti reported seven or eight Taliban fighters were killed in Monday's clashes along with one or two resistance fighters.

The Panjshir has immense symbolic value in Afghanistan as the area that has resisted occupation by invaders.

"We defended it during the era of the Russians, the era of the British, the previous era of the Taliban we will continue to defend it," one fighter said.

Ahmad Massoud, one of the NRF's leaders, is the son of the late guerrilla commander Ahmad Shah Massoud, who was dubbed the "Lion of Panjshir" for holding out, first against Soviet and then Taliban forces.

The valley has limited entry points and its geography offers a natural military advantage defending units can use high positions to effectively target attacking forces.

ANTICIPATING ASSAULT
This week, Panjshir fighters held military training in a show of force, with men carrying heavy logs on their shoulders crossing chest-deep icy rivers.

Above their armoured vehicles and over their bases fluttered their flag, a challenge to the Taliban's white banner now hauled up across the rest of the country.

Many Afghans are terrified of a repeat of the Taliban's initial rule from 1996 to 2001, which was infamous for their treatment of girls and women, as well as a brutal justice system.

The NRF has set up machine gun nests, mortars and surveillance posts fortified with sandbags in anticipation of a Taliban assault.

Communications are difficult with the valley, with Taliban forces on three sides. Internet into Panjshir has been on and off repeatedly in recent days.
Al Arabiya adds:
Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Standing Buffalo watched the circling Commanches and asked himself What would Geronimo do?...
a front man for the Massoud’s resistance movement, Fahim Dashti, said the Taliban attacked from three directions over the last two nights but without achieving any progress.

"More than a dozen Taliban [fighters] have been killed and more than seven others maimed," ToloNews quoted him as saying.

The Taliban had announced two weeks ago that hundreds of their fighters were heading to Panjshir to control the province.
Khaama Press adds:
Meanwhile, the Taliban claim to have taken Shutul district of Panjshir province and have also killed ten resistance forces.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has also said that the fighters have seized three military tanks and some weaponry.

It comes as the Taliban has previously said their negotiations with tribal elders and religious scholars of Panjshir province have gone in vain.
Following the same script they used for all the other provinces, because the combination of bribery and threats is much easier on the cannon fodder than actually braving opposition rifles.

Nancy Pelosi Blocks House from Reading Names of 13 Killed U.S. Servicemembers
[Breitbart] Wicked Witch of the West House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Tuesday blocked the House from publicly reading the names of the 13 killed U.S. service members in Afghanistan, House Republicans said.

Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) told the Floridan that Pelosi ignored the Republicans’ request to read the names, instead she "just closed the House down."

"We gaveled in, had a prayer, said the Pledge of Allegiance, took a moment of silence with pretty much all Republican veterans, then asked to be recognized to read names and bring up Afghanistan legislation," Mast told the Floridian. "They did not acknowledge us, and just closed the House down."

Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) tweeted a rhetorical question of whether Pelosi is attempting "to cover up" the Afghan debacle by not allowing the names to be read publicly on the floor.

"How badly do Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats want to cover up this Afghanistan debacle?" Gimenez asked. "They just blocked Members of Congress from reading the names of the service members who sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan last week. Don’t you think our military deserves better?"

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Ex-con charged in fatal shooting of 15-year-old boy
[NYPOST] An ex-con was charged this week with gunning down a 15-year-old student athlete in East Harlem on Memorial Day, police said.

Shane Lloyd, 33 — who is locked up at Rikers in connection to a September 2020 hit-and-run — was linked to the May 31 slaying of Amir James at Lexington Avenue and East 123rd Street, authorities said.

James, a student at Thurgood Marshall Academy, was out to pick up fried chicken with his sister and another relative around 10:30 p.m. when he was shot in the chest by the lone gunman, authorities said.

The teen was pronounced dead at Harlem Hospital.

It was unclear whether he was targeted or an innocent bystander. Another man, 30, was also shot in the knee.

Lloyd was busted on July 22 for allegedly tossing a firearm out of his car after striking another car and driving off on Sept. 13, 2020, cops said.

At the time of that alleged crime, Lloyd — who also uses the first name Antonio — was on post-release supervision in connection to a prior weapons possession conviction, state corrections records show.

Lloyd was released from prison in August 2019 after serving a three-year sentence for the weapons charge, according to the records.

Amir’s grandmother Rosemary West previously described him as a top student and a gifted athlete — particularly in football, basketball and kickball.

"Always called on him to get on the team because he was so good," she said.

Amir also loved to cook, she said.

"I taught him how to cook," West said, adding that they liked to make breakfast, peas and rice, potato salad and barbecue chicken together.

"He would have been a great person," West said the day after the slaying. "He was just starting out."

"There were so many things he wanted to do."

Afghanistan
Afghanistan crisis: Unclear if ruthless Taliban will change, says General Milley
[BBC] The top US general has described the Taliban as a "ruthless group" and says it is unclear whether they will change.

Gen Mark Milley said, however, it was "possible" that the US would co-ordinate with the Islamist militants on future counter-terrorism operations.

US forces withdrew from Afghanistan on Tuesday, ending America's longest war 20 years after launching an invasion to oust the Taliban.

The Islamists are now in control and expected to announce a new government.

Gen Milley was speaking alongside US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, in their first public remarks since the last troops left Afghanistan.

US President Joe Biden has been widely criticised over the abrupt manner of the withdrawal, which led to the unexpected collapse of the Afghan security forces the US had trained and funded for years.

The Taliban's lightning advance sparked off a frenetic effort to evacuate thousands of foreign nationals and local Afghans who had been working for them.

In the news conference on Wednesday, both Gen Milley and Secretary Austin praised the troops who had served in Afghanistan and the massive evacuation mission.

Afghanistan
Oliver North: Weapons, Equipment Abandoned in Afghanistan Will Be ‘Reverse-Engineered in China, ‘Used Against Us'
[Breitbart] U.S. weapons and military equipment abandoned by the Biden administration in Afghanistan will be reverse-engineered by China and Russia and then used against American interests, retired Lt. Col. Oliver North said on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow.

The Biden administration leftist behind "some of the most sophisticated weapons and equipment we’ve ever made for the military," North stated. He warned, "It’s going to be reverse-engineered in China. It will be reverse-engineered in Russia. It will be used against us in other campaigns."

North predicted that the Taliban, ISIS, and Haqqani Network would collectively become "the best armed criminal enterprise in the history of mankind" due to the Pentagon’s abandonment of military equipment, vehicles, and weaponry in Afghanistan.

Heavy equipment transporters have been used to transport two M1 tanks
(Doubtful. AFAIK, US removed them and Afghans weren't given any. Worry more about night vision devices and other electronics. Chinooks and at least one CRAM was left behind.)
from Afghanistan into Pakistan, North claimed. He remarked, "They’re going to be heading to the port where they will be loaded aboard a ship and taken to communist China for exploitation. That’s what’s happening to anywhere between five and ten of every piece of equipment. The Taliban, by the way, are getting rich on this. They’re — quote — selling them."

The Oryx Blog detailed the losses of U.S. military weapons and equipment provided to the Afghan military in a post entitled, "Disaster At Hand: Documenting Afghan Military Equipment Losses Since June 2021 until August 14, 2021."

#6  Any Afghan regime in possession of these systems would have sold access to the hightest bidder.

That should have been the default assumption, no matter if the Afghans were elements of the liberated 'Islamic Republic' or the 'Islamic Emirate.'

If the US political deciders were smart they would have turned this into an advantage by leaving behind subtly modified equipment that will equally subtly mislead anyone attempting reverse engineering.

Afghanistan
Economic Impact of 20-Year Intl Presence in Afghanistan
[ToloNews] The last two decades of major international presence in Afghanistan caused a huge influx of funds and investment which enabled Afghanistan's economy to grow, economic analysts say.

The economic achievements, however, according to the analysts, have become fragile following the hasty and full withdrawal of foreign forces and the closing of foreign diplomatic missions.

According to the numbers, Afghanistan's economy witnessed a growth of 21 percent in the last 20 years, especially in 2007, and huge private and public investments, especially in construction projects, have changed the face of major cities.

According to officials from the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), the private investments on different projects reached around $4 billion a year.

As a result of aid money and investment flowing in, the rate of poverty decreased and hundreds of trade, transport, banks, and services companies started operations in Afghanistan.

"In the past years, around 50 to 60 billion USD has been invested in mining and other services in Afghanistan because there was the demand for such investments," said Khan Jan Alokozay, the deputy head of ACCI.

The United States figures show that the US government has spent around two trillion dollars in Afghanistan, an amount equal to the Marshal Plan which was invested in the rebuilding of Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
after World War II.

The former Afghan government, however, said that the on-budget accumulated US funds to Afghanistan amounted to around $80 billion.

A number of economic analysts say the huge amount of money spent in Afghanistan in the last 20 years could have resulted in much more economic development but most of the funds were either embezzled or funneled back to the donor countries. According to them, most of the implemented projects also have not been sustainable.

"Our economy had turned into a mafia economy. A limited number of individuals were in charge of most of--around 90 percent of--Afghanistan’s capital," said Sayed Massoud, an economic analyst.

"If someone does an assessment, it will clearly show that the former governments and the foreigners have failed (to implement projects) and have caused the promotion of corruption, an economic mafia and the embezzlement of aid funds," Alokozay said.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
the 20-year international presence has also helped Afghanistan build close economic and trade relations with world and regional countries.

In the past years, Afghanistan gained membership in several regional and international organizations and economic institutions such as the World Trade Organization and World Road Transport Organization.

Afghanistan also connected to the world with big regional projects such as the Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistain and India gas pipeline (TAPI), the Central Asia-South Asia power project (CASA-1000), the regional railroad project, and the Lapis Lazuli Trade and Transport Route.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
despite the signs of progress and development, Afghanistan still struggled with economic problems and now the country’s economy is in a very bad situation, according to analysts.

"Several economic mafias and their competition" affected the mining industry, Massoud said.

"In Afghanistan, around 18 million people are struggling with poverty and lack of food, and we have to work hard for the continuation of international funds," said Tariq Farhadi, an advisor to the former president.

After 20 years of relative economic growth and aid, once again Afghanistan’s economy is experiencing an economic downturn.

Following the collapse of the former government, the United States and NATO

Gunmen impersonating Taliban stabbed money changer in Kabul
[KhaamaPress] A number of button men who were pretending to be the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
fighters stabbed a moneychanger in Police District eight of Kabul city.

Deputy Head of Afghanistan’s chamber of commerce Khan Jan Alokozai said that the money changer was followed from the money changing market and was then stopped and stabbed maimed.

Khan Jan Alokozai said that the moneychanger had given the bag of money to one of his friends and was carrying an empty bag when stopped by the button men.

"Since the businessmen have been disarmed and their armored cars have been taken, they are subject to armed thievery." He addressed the businessmen to be more cautious while carrying money in Kabul city.

The deputy Head said officials of the chamber will discuss the issue with the Taliban and will ask them to provide the businessmen with weapons and armored vehicles.

Though the Taliban have decreased the number of thieves by arresting nearly two thousand in the past two weeks, people across the country are asking for special uniforms for their fighters.

India-Pakistan
Senior Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani is no more
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

Senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away after a long illness in Srinagar on Wednesday night, reports said.

He was 92.

Reports said that Geelani breathed his last around 10:30 pm at his residence in Hyderpora in uptown Srinagar.

Geelani, who was suffering from multiple ailments, had been keeping unwell for the past many years.

Quoting sources, news agency KNO reported that Geelani developed serious complications on Wednesday afternoon. "He had chest congestion and breathing problems. He passed away at 10:30 PM," the report quoted the sources as having said.

Following Geelani's death, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....
, Vijay Kumar announced that they have imposed restrictions as a "precautionary measure". "Restrictions imposed including suspension of internet services in the Valley," Kumar told ANI news agency.
One India adds:
Authorities imposed a security clampdown in Kashmir late Wednesday after the death of separatist icon Syed Ali Geelani at the age of 92.

Troops put up barbed wire and barricades on roads leading to Geelani's house in the main city of Srinagar after the family announced the death, news agency PTI reported.

Announcements were made from loudspeakers of the main mosque near Geelani's residence asking people to march towards the house.

But police said no one in the Kashmir valley would be allowed to leave their homes. Thousands of security forces were immediately deployed and mobile internet services were cut across the area.

Scores of armoured vehicles and trucks patrolled main roads in Srinagar.
Another One India writes about Mr. Geelani:
The hardliner Islamist leader had resigned from politics and Hurriyat in 2020. His exit comes after he had headed it for 17 years.

Several Kashmiri political leaders have blamed Geelani for the rise in militancy and bloodshed in Kashmir. The Hurriyat leader has called for numerous general strikes or shutdowns, in response to the deaths of unnamed suspected militants, local militants and death of civilians in Kashmir.

Reportedly, Geelani calls Islamist leader and founder of the Jamaat-e-Islami, Abul A'la Maududi as his mentor.

Syed Ali Geelani was born in a town Sopore Baramulla, North Kashmir, on 29 September 1929, was viewed as a key separatist leader in Kashmir.

He was previously a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later on founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He has served as the chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, a conglomerate of pro separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He was an MLA from the Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and in 1987.

#1  A bit of history: Among the earliest and longest lived Muslim organization is the World Muslim Congress (Motamar Al-Alam Al-Islami) founded in Makka in 1926. Often called the World Islamic Congress, its first meeting was chaired by King Ibn Saud. Perhaps its most historically significant meeting was convened in Jerusalem in December 1931 with 130 delegates from 22 countries in attendance, during which Haj Amin al-Huseini declared that Zionism was an "agression" and calling for an economic boycott of the Jewish community in Palestine. The Congress was to be held every two or three years and it will later proclaim that after WWII it would "actively shape the agenda of the Muslim world." In fact, it also evolved into a meeting place for Muslim Brothers. The Congress met infrequently, with one general congress held in Cairo in 1937. (The Thrid Conference was held in Karachi in February 1951, with the Mufti presiding, where in effect he declared war with India over the status of Kashmir. The Fifth World Islamic Congress was held in 1962.) Until his death in 1974 the spiritual leader of the WMC was Haj Amin al-Husseini, The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem.

Woman dumped backpack with suspected human remains
[NYP] Police are looking for a woman after she allegedly dumped a bag of suspected human remains in a Virginia store dumpster.

The woman, whose name hasn’t been released, was spotted placing the backpack in the dumpster of Gabe’s discount store in Chesterfield County on Monday, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

"An employee saw the young lady put something in the dumpster, and thought it was odd," Chesterfield police Maj. Michael Louth told the newspaper.

Louth said the employee "subsequently went out there and saw the book bag, and it had some blood on it."

Police opened the backpack and found what was believed to be human remains.

The remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy, police said.

Several hours after releasing surveillance photos of the woman, police said they had identified her, though they declined to release her name.

"The investigation is ongoing. We have no additional information to release at this time," police said.

'I warned you': Chilling details emerge in attack on Rikers correction officer
[NYPOST] The Rikers Island inmate charged with attempted murder in Monday’s brutal attack on a correction officer blamed "voices in his head" for the beatdown that left the guard with a fractured skull.

Disturbing details in the violent mostly peaceful assault emerged in a new criminal complaint against Marvens Thomas, 28, who goes by the nickname "Murda" and is accused of knocking the officer to the ground while pummeling him with his fists — before kicking and stomping on his head multiple times.
Since the mental hospitals closed, prisons are where many of the untreated mentally ill end up, as well as the vicious and those who succumb to temptation.
Thomas then allegedly swiped the guard’s pepper spray, according to the court papers filed in Bronx Criminal Court Tuesday.

The CO was taken away on a stretcher and suffered "substantial pain, soreness, bruising, and swelling, as well as a bleeding laceration that required 20 [stitches], 11 inside and 9 outside," the document said.

Thomas is facing a slew of charges in addition to first-degree attempted murder, including assault, robbery, larceny and obstruction governmental administration, the Bronx District Attorney said.

The complaint said Thomas allegedly warned the victim he’d attack if his demands weren’t met.

"I want a female officer. Get this dreadhead motherf—er off my floor or else," the suspect allegedly said, adding after the attack, "I warned you," prosecutors claim.

Thomas allegedly blamed the vicious thrashing on his mental problems in a statement to detectives.

"What happened in the morning happened because I have a mental illness. I hear voices in my head and I think that people are trying to hurt me," the statement read, according to prosecutors.

"My family abandoned me. I want to be in a facility for my whole life where I can receive treatment and be with people like myself so we can understand each other."

Thomas, a Florida native who is listed at 6-3 and 253 pounds, was being held at Rikers on assault charges, according to the DOC’s website.

Thomas’ Legal Aid Society lawyer, Alice Louise Swenson, did not immediately return a request for comment on the case.

The accused attempted murderer was being held on $150,000 bail on the attack case and is due back in court on Friday, prosecutors said.

Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Benny Boscio said City Hall is to blame for the incident.

Hell on Rikers Island — but de Blasio doesn’t care
"Our Correction Officer, who was simply doing his job, was nearly killed by this heinous attack. The blood that shed from his wounds and the wounds of all of our brave officers, who continue to be assaulted with impunity, are on the Mayor’s hands," Boscio said.

Taliban launch charm offensive with banks in Afghanistan amid funding fears
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The new, Taliban
...Arabic for students...
-appointed head of Afghanistan's central bank has sought to reassure banks the group wants a fully-functioning financial system, but has so far provided little detail on how it will supply funds to sustain it, said four bankers familiar with the matter.

The acting central bank governor, Haji Mohammad Idris, met members of the Afghanistan Banks Association and other bankers this week, and told them that the Taliban viewed the banking sector as imperative, said two bankers who attended the meeting.

The holy warrior group which now controls the country was working to find solutions for liquidity and rising inflation, they quoted Idris as saying.

"They were very charming and asked banks what their concerns were," said one of the bankers who requested anonymity.

Under the Taliban's previous rule between 1996 and 2001, Afghanistan had little functioning banking sector and although a handful of commercial banks retained licenses none were operational and few loans were made.

Idris, a Taliban loyalist who has no formal financial training or higher education, was appointed to head the central bank last week.

He and his team did not tell the bankers how much cash Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), the central bank, had access to, nor did they give any indication about how the Taliban would approach its relationship with the US, one of the bankers said.

The central bank provided liquidity to banks in recent days, said two of the bankers, with one adding that DAB paid a portion of the amount each bank requested.

It appears unlikely that the holy warriors will get quick access to most of the roughly $10 billion in assets held by DAB, which are mostly outside of the country.

"Around 80 percent of transactions done by banks are in dollars, so it's very critical the new government should make the relationship with the US," said the banker.

Another banker who attended the meeting said an initial rush by customers to access bank accounts after the Taliban captured Kabul had eased slightly. A key priority for the central bank was now to have its international accounts "unblocked" and get access to its reserves, to allow it to keep enough money circulating.

"We are in close contact and negotiations with the central bank," said the second banker.

Banks have mainly re-opened this week, but are operating with limited services, including $200 weekly limits on withdrawals and few wire transfers amid liquidity worries and correspondent banks cutting ties, say bankers.

Idris also offered reassurances about banks' female staff, telling them that the Taliban was not planning to stipulate whether they could employ women or not, said one of the bankers.

Women account for around 20 percent of staff in some banks, but some have stayed away from offices amid concerns the movement will repeat the stance of their previous government before 2001 when women were not allowed to work.

Central Committee in Syria's Daraa publishes terms of agreement
[NPASYRIA] On Wednesday, the Central Committee in Daraa, southern Syria, issued a statement specifying the terms of the agreement reached with the Syrian government forces under Russian auspices, which started to be carried out in Daraa al-Balad, the Tariq al-Sadd neighborhood and the camps.

The statement stated that among the terms of the agreement was an immediate ceasefire, the entry of a Russian Military Police (MP) patrol and its stationing in Daraa al-Balad, and the opening of a center to settle the status of wanted persons and their weapons.

It added that the agreement stipulated checking the identities of those in Daraa al-Balad to deny the presence of any strangers, and the deployment of four security points in the neighborhood of Daraa al-Balad.

Yesterday, an agreement was reached between the dignitaries of Horan, the Central Committee in the western neighborhood, the Fifth Corps, and the Daraa al-Balad Committee on the one hand, and the Security Committee of the government forces on the other hand, with the guarantee of the Russians.

The agreement also included the lifting of the cordon around the perimeter of Daraa al-Balad, the return of the cop shoppe personnel and the restoration of services to Daraa al-Balad.

Additionally, to release the detainees and clarify the fate of the missing, five days after the implementation of this agreement.

This morning, the Russian forces and members of the Eighth Brigade of the Fifth Corps entered Daraa al-Balad and the besieged neighborhoods to carry out the terms of the agreement.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his shoulder. Ow! he exclaimed, with feeling......
a settlement center was opened in Daraa al-Balad, and the government forces started to settle the situation of 34 residents of Daraa with the delivery of a number of light weapons, in the presence of Major General Hussam Louqa, head of the security committee of the government forces.

The Syrian government forces and the Iranian-backed factions have been besieging the Daraa al-Balad and other neighborhoods and closing all roads leading to them for more than two months.

Pfizer Is Now Developing A Twice-Per-Day COVID Pill That Must Be Taken Alongside Vaccines
[NationalFile] Pharmaceutical megacorporation pfizer is now developing a COVID pill that is meant to be taken alongside the COVID vaccines that have already made the company a staggering amount of money. The new pill is expected to be released by the end of the year and will be required to be taken twice per day.

"Success against #COVID19 will likely require both vaccines & treatments," Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said on Wednesday. "We’re pleased to share we’ve started a Phase 2/3 study of our oral antiviral candidate-specifically designed to combat SARS-CoV-2-in non-hospitalized, low-risk adults."

Pfizer also put out a press release the same week that proclaimed, "If successful, [the drug] has the potential to address a significant unmet medical need, providing patients with a novel oral therapy that could be prescribed at the first sign of infection, without requiring hospitalization." The company described the drug as an "investigational orally administered protease inhibitor antiviral therapy designed specifically to combat COVID—19 — in non—hospitalized, symptomatic adult participants who have a confirmed diagnosis of SARS—CoV—2 infection and are not at increased risk of progressing to severe illness, which may lead to hospitalization or death."

Media corporations have already expressed excitement about the new pill, and Pfizer is so confident that the pill will be swiftly approved and mandated by governments that it has already started a production line before the end of clinical trials.

Other companies are also hard at work on COVID pills to be taken indefinitely while governments and media corporations focus on COVID.

In Singapore, a 16-year-old boy was ruled to be eligible for a $225,000 settlement this week after suffering a myocarditis cardiac arrest event that doctors ruled was likely in response to receiving his first dose of the Pfizer BionTech vaccine, with the Ministry of Health stating, "The myocarditis was likely a serious adverse event arising from the COVID-19 vaccine he received, which might have been aggravated by his strenuous lifting of weights and his high consumption of caffeine through energy drinks and supplements."

CALCULATE C-19 ODDS OF INFECTION Based on common factors.

ODDS SINCE 01/14/2020 (598 days CDC Data)
INFECTION = 121,018 in 1 Million or 12.10% or 1.2 in 10
DEATH = 1,980 in 1 Million or about 2/10ths of 1%

ODDS OF BECOMING INFECTED LAST 7 DAYS
3,444 in 1 Million (1,147,649 / 333,267,823) or about 3.5/10ths of 1%

ODDS OF DYING IF INFECTED IN THE LAST 7 DAYS
24 in 1 Million or 0.0024000000000000002 of 1%.

TOTAL CDC NOW CLAIMED COVID-19 US DEATHS = 660,013/598 days using basic math =1,104 average deaths per day x 365 days per year = 402,960 per year (2020-2021)

Remember of the COVID-19 CDC claimed deaths (598 day total data)
485,290 of the 660k were shown to be 65+ Note: This is not counting remaining 129k+/- likely due to preexisting Health Reasons.

Covid-19 is likely #3 on the 2020 Death List. Likely further down for 2021 as the Infection to Death ratio has dramatically widened since 2020.

Turkey renews shelling of Syria's Tel Tamr
[NPASYRIA] On Tuesday-Wednesday night, Ottoman Turkish forces and Ottoman Turkish-backed armed Syrian factions renewed their shelling on the countryside of Tel Tamr town, northeast Syria.

Ottoman Turkish forces targeted three villages (Kozaliya, Tel al-Laban, and Umm al-Khair) in the western countryside of Tel Tamr near the M4 Highway with more than 10 shells, a source from the Tel Tamr Military Council said.

The impacts of the shelling were limited to material losses in residents’ properties, according to the source.

During the past two days, the frontlines in Tel Tamr were completely calm following three weeks of military escalation by Ottoman Turkish forces targeting villages of the towns of Tel Tamr and Zargan (Abu Rasin), northeast Syria.

Gunmen abduct 73 children from school in northwest Nigeria
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Armed men kidnapped 73 children from a school in the northwestern Nigerian state of Zamfara in the latest mass abduction in the region, police said in a statement on Wednesday.Police said a large number of armed bandidos invaded the Government Day Secondary School in the village of Kaya in rural Zamfara state at 11:22 am local time (1022 GMT).

"The command ... has deployed search and rescue team that was mandated to work in synergy with the military to ensure the safe rescue of the kidnapped students," Zamfara police front man Mohammed Shehu said in the statement.

Armed gangs seeking ransoms have kidnapped more than 1,100 pupils in more than a dozen attacks on schools or colleges across northwest Nigeria since December 2020, adopting a tactic first used by Islamist holy warriors in the northeastern part of the West African nation.

Zamfara’s government ordered all statewide schools to close to prevent further attacks, Ibrahim Dosara, the state’s information commissioner, told Rooters by telephone. Police said they had also increased security around Kaya to prevent further attacks on the community.

A staff member at the school told Rooters by phone that the school had more than 500 children enrolled.

Zamfara is among four states in northwest Nigeria that have taken measures to try to curb the security crisis. They have banned the sale of fuel in jerry cans and the transport of firewood by truck in hope of disrupting gangs who travel by cycle of violence and camp out in forests.
Al Ahram adds:
Northwest and central states have for years been troubled by tit-for-tat attacks and community raids between nomadic herders and local farmers who clash over water and land.

But violence has escalated sharply with the emergence of large criminal gangs who steal cattle, raid and loot villages and kidnap for ransom.

Armed gangs often arrive on motorbikes during their abduction attacks and also engage in castle rustling.

They operate out of camps hidden in forests in northwest Nigeria, often raiding and abducting in one state and crossing back with their victims into another state.

This year bandidos have turned their sights on schools, seminaries and colleges across the region, herding children and students deep into forest hideouts while they negotiate ransom payments.

Many students have been released only after spending weeks or months in captivity. Dozens are still being held.

The bandidos are seeking financial gain and have no known ideological leanings, but there are growing worries among security experts and officials over their ties with jihadists fighting a 12-year war in Nigeria's northeast.

Moderna says tainted COVID vaccines sent to Japan contained steel
[IsraelTimes] Moderna says tainted batches of its COVID-19 vaccine sent to Japan were contaminated with stainless steel particles, but the company does not expect it to pose "an undue risk to patient safety."

The US biotech firm is facing major setbacks in Japan, with hundreds of thousands of doses suspended following reports of foreign substances detected in vials.

Authorities are also investigating the deaths of two men who received doses from a tainted batch, but the cause of their deaths is so far unknown.

In a joint statement with its Japanese partner Takeda, Moderna says the contamination in one of three suspended lots had been traced back to production line flaws at a factory run by its Spanish contractor, ROVI Pharma Industrial Services.

"The rare presence of stainless steel particles in the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine does not pose an undue risk to patient safety and it does not adversely affect the benefit/risk profile of the product," the statement says.

Metallic particles of this size injected into a muscle may cause a site reaction, but are unlikely to go beyond that, it adds.

"Stainless steel is routinely used in heart valves, joint replacements and metal sutures and staples. As such, it is not expected that injection of the particles identified in these lots in Japan would result in increased medical risk."

Moderna adds that for the time being, there was no evidence that the two deaths were related to administration of the vaccine and "the relationship is currently considered to be coincidental." An investigation is ongoing.

One of the greatest political opportunities missed in the last century was that of Moscow's. If the Soviets, who had the means and geographical location, had rescued most of the hostages held by Iran the Politburo would have reaped political and economic benefits untold - most favored trade nation, hands off in Afghanistan, loans to keep their economy running, no election of Ronald Reagan and an unwinnable arms race, et al.

If you can formulate plausible past event scenarios, future event calculations shouldn't be much of a problem. Both Qatar and Germany warned of the negative consequences of Taliban

isolation and urged the world to engage with the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Al Thani said that the Taliban’s isolation benefits no one, and that engaging with them could bear positive results.

According to the Qatari minister, if the Taliban are cut off from the world, a new crisis will unfold in Afghanistan.

"We believe that isolation is not the response to this issue (the Taliban takeover by force) ... our assessment is that the Taliban was isolated in 1996 and it led to what happened next in those years. But we also saw that engagement can have positive outcomes," Al Thani said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, the partisans of Honorius went for their knives and the partisans of Stilicho went for the doors...
Germany's foreign minister Heiko Maas said that instability in Afghanistan is not acceptable.

"I believe there is no way except (to engage with) the Taliban, and we should translate it into action. For example, we should talk about the airport. We cannot accept instability in Afghanistan because this will benefit insurgency and will have big consequences for Afghanistan’s neighboring countries," he said.

The Taliban has also said they want to have good relations with the world’s countries, including the United States.

Iraq
Iraq at risk of power shortages after Iran reduced gas supply drastically
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraq’s electricity ministry said on Wednesday that Iranian gas supplied to the central and southern regions was reduced from 49 million to 8 million cubic meters per day, causing a risk of serious power shortages.

A reduction in Iranian gas supplies led the national power system to lose about 5500 megawatts, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said that there has been contact with the Iranian energy ministry and Iran’s embassy in Baghdad to clarify the reasons for the reduction, the statement added.

Washington has repeatedly extended by 90 or 120 days a sanctions exemption to allow Baghdad to import Iranian energy after Washington reimposed sanctions on Tehran’s oil sector forbidding countries from purchasing Iranian energy.

The United States has insisted that oil-rich Iraq, OPEC’s second-largest producer, move towards self-sufficiency as a condition for its exemption for importing Iranian energy, yet Baghdad has struggled to do so, in part due to low oil prices.

Palestinians mourn man found shot in West Bank, blame Israel
[IsraelTimes] Hundreds of people mourn the death of a man Paleostinian health officials claim was killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank.

Raed Jadallah, 39, a resident of Beit Ur al-Tahta near Ramallah, is buried on Wednesday.

According to the official Paleostinian news agency Wafa, Jadallah was a gardener and was shot at the western entrance of his village while returning from work in Israel. The circumstances of the death were unclear, as there were no conflicts in the area when the shooting happened Tuesday night.

The Paleostinian foreign ministry described the killing as a "heinous crime" and blamed the Israeli army for Jadallah’s death. The Israeli military has not commented on the circumstances of the incident.

"They are catching us as if they are fishing," Mohammad Jadallah, Raed’s uncle, says of his nephew’s killing. "This is not acceptable."

Ibrahim Zaki, a relative of the slain man, tells Paleostine TV that Raed Jadallah did not show up to meet a friend as arranged after work. Raed’s son and the friend had heard that there had been shooting in the area near the meeting place, called his phone and went to look for him.

The friend says they followed traces of blood on the ground and found Raed’s body nearby. Zaki says it appeared that Jadallah had been shot from a hill on which the Israeli military is often located.

Jadallah was born in Jerusalem and left behind four children, according to Paleostinian television.

Scores feared missing after ambush in eastern Congo
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.NET] Around 80 people are feared missing in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo
...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material...
after armed rebels ambushed a convoy on Wednesday and set fire to 16 vehicles, a local parliamentarian said.

Jean-Paul Ngahangondi, a member of the Ituri province’s parliament, blamed the assault on the Allied Democratic Forces
...the ADF is one of several murderous Moslem groups in NE Congo. In 2019 the U.S. Treasury Department imposed sanctions on them for the usual reasons. They don't appear to be affiliated with al-Qaeda or Islamic State, though ISIS claims their work from time to time — they just like killing infidels....
(ADF), an Islamist hard boy group accused of killing thousands of people in recent years.

The group could not be reached for comment.

Attacks by the ADF and dozens of other gangs operating in the region have continued unabated despite the government’s declaration of martial law in Ituri and neighboring North Kivu province at the beginning of May.

The installation of army generals as provincial governors was meant to quell a surge in violence that the military largely attributes to the ADF.

But the number of civilians killed in such attacks has further increased since then, according to the Kivu Security Tracker, which maps unrest in eastern Congo.

Commenting on Wednesday’s incident, government front man Patrick Muyaya told Rooters that ADF fighters had set fire to 14 cars and two minibusses in Ituri. He did not specify the number of people injured or missing.

Ngahangondi, the local politician, criticized what he said was the army’s slow response to the attack, a frequent complaint of local people.

"The army just waits for the rebels to kill the population and only then pursues them without any positive results," he said. "We need to see the army launch a good offense against the ADF instead of playing defense every time."

Eastern Congo’s borderlands with Uganda and Rwanda have been plagued by violence since regional wars around the turn of the century in which millions of people died, mostly from hunger and disease.

Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
has claimed dozens of killings blamed on the ADF, although U.N. experts say they have not found conclusive evidence that IS has control over ADF operations.
Al Ahram adds:
Suspected jihadists killed three people and torched up to 14 vehicles on Wednesday in the DR Congo's troubled northeastern Ituri province, a Western monitoring group and local civil society and security sources said.

The attack Wednesday morning occurred near the town of Ofai, the US-based Kivu Security Tracker (KST) said on Twitter, adding that the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) were suspected to have carried it out.

It said the toll of three dead was still provisional.

The convoy was under escort by UN peacekeepers in the MONUSCO force and the Congolese army, according to a local civil society official, Dieudonne Malangayi.

The dirt road connects Ituri to North Kivu province, and security forces mount escorts to protect convoys against rebel attacks.

"The ADF rebels cut the convoy in half," Malangayi told AFP, adding that the attack left three dead while 13 vehicles were torched.

AFP viewed a video showing several vehicles burning on the road, with dwellings nearby, as armed peacekeepers patrolled all around the site of the attack.

The ADF, historically a Ugandan Islamist group, have been accused of killing thousands of civilians in both Ituri and North Kivu.

UN warns of pending food crisis in Afghanistan

rulers as they endeavor to restore stability after decades of war.

Ramiz Alakbarov says that about a third of the country’s population of 38 million is facing "emergency" or "crisis" levels of food insecurity. Alakbarov is the local UN humanitarian coordinator. With winter coming and a severe drought ongoing, more money is needed to feed the population.

He says the UN’s World Food Program has brought in food and distributed it to tens of thousands of people in recent weeks. But of the $1.3 billion needed for aid efforts, only 39% has been received.

Alakbarov says: "Without additional funding, food stocks will run out at the end of September."

State Dept Admits The Majority of Afghans and SIVs Who Helped us Did Not Evacuate, So Who Are These 116,000 Afghans We Evacuated
[The Last Refuge] According to the data provided by the U.S. State Department in the last few days, the total number of people evacuated from the Kabul airport was 122,000. Of those, 6,000 were American citizens (AmCits), and 116,000 were Afghan refugees.

Today the State Department admits the "majority" of the qualified Afghan people who assisted the U.S. during operations in Afghanistan, Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) applicants, did not get evacuated. That admission begs the question: then who the heck are those 116,000 refugees?

[...] The U.S. still doesn’t have reliable data on who was evacuated, nor for what type of visas they may qualify, the official said, but initial assessments suggested most visa applicants didn’t make it through the crush at the airport. "I would say it’s the majority of them," the official said. "Just based on anecdotal information about the populations we were able to support."

[...] The Biden administration has said that from the end of July, the U.S. and allied nations evacuated more than 122,000 thousand people from the country, most of whom were Afghans.

The State Department estimates that fewer than 200 Americans that wanted to leave Afghanistan have been left behind. Pentagon Press secretary John Kirby said on Friday, near the end of the evacuation effort, that the U.S. had been able to evacuate about 7,000 Special Immigrant Visa applicants by that point.

We had 'kill shot' (on airport bomber) but didn't take it? Report makes bombshell allegation
[WND] A new report on Joe Biden's Afghanistan evacuation disaster, in which Americans were abandoned to be under the thumb of the Taliban and tens of billions of dollars worth of American war equipment was turned over to the terror group, explains the military probably could have prevented the suicide bombing that killed 13 service members.

But it didn't.

According to a report at the Media Research Center-affiliated NewsBusters, the "bombshell allegation" appeared on Univision.

It explained according to former Army Green Beret and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Roger Pardo-Maurer, the Defense Department knew of the homicide bomber at Hamid Karzai International Airport and had scrambled a Predator drone that locked on the target for the kill shot.

Then drone operators were ordered to stand down.

Apparently, "in deference to negotiations with the Taliban," the report said.

Iran-backed Hezbollah hammered with criticism amid Lebanon's crises

White House announces plan to build 100K affordable homes
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The White House said Wednesday it will use existing federal funds to build and provide 100,000 homes to low- and middle-income buyers and nonprofits over the next three years to bolster supply that is often snapped up by deep-pocketed investors.

President Joe Biden
...... 46th president of the U.S. We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women created ... by the — you know — you know, the thing......
believes Congress can bolster affordable housing by approving his mammoth spending plan for families, but the White House said it "can’t wait to take action," as economically battered Americans sought space during the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic only to find tight supply and runaway home prices and rents.

"The large and long-standing gap between the supply and demand of affordable homes for both renters and homeowners makes it harder for families to buy their first home and drives up the cost of rent," a White House fact sheet said. "Higher housing costs also crowd out other investments families can and should make to improve their lives, such as investments in education."

U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge
...Dem Congresswoman for Ohio's 11th congressional district since 2008. She won a special election to succeed Stephanie Tubbs Jones, who gave up her office when carried out feet first. The strangely-shaped, but really not gerrymandered, district includes most of the black-majority areas between Cleveland and Akron. Fudge was Chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus in the 113th Congress...
on Wednesday will announce a series of measures to carry out the plan, from expanded financing through the Treasury and agencies such as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to relaunching a Treasury-HUD Risk Sharing Program that provides low-cost capital for affordable housing development.

The plan would prioritize families by limiting the sale of certain properties owned by HUD or insured by the Federal Housing Administration to investors.

The administration said it is also "expanding and creating exclusivity periods in which only governmental entities, owner-occupants, and qualified non-profit organizations are able to bid on certain FHA-insured and government-owned properties."

The White House said it needs to act because investors gobbled up one in every six homes purchased in the second quarter of this year.

"Large investor purchases of single-family homes and conversion into rental properties [speed] the transition of neighborhoods from homeownership to rental and drives up home prices for lower cost homes, making it harder for aspiring first-time and first-generation home buyers, among others, to buy a home," the fact sheet said. "At the same, these purchases are unlikely to meaningfully boost supply in the lower-cost portions of the rental market, as investors charge more for rent to recoup higher purchase costs."

$10 million to help the cash-strapped nation buy vital fuel to power hospitals and water stations.

"Lebanon faces profound uncertainty. The humanitarian community, though, is resolved to assist all vulnerable populations, whether Lebanese, refugees or migrants colonists," UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths tweets during a visit to Beirut.

The UN’s humanitarian agency OCHA said yesterday a $6 million allocation from the Lebanon Humanitarian Fund was planned to help 65 hospitals, primary healthcare centers, dispensaries and medical cold storage facilities.

Another $4 million would be set aside for health centers as well as water stations and four water facilities that serve more than two-thirds of Lebanon’s population, it said in a statement.

"The allocation will help 2.3 million people across Lebanon by making sure there is enough fuel to keep water stations functioning," said OCHA.

"The fuel shortage, a result of the ongoing socioeconomic and political crises, is jeopardizing the availability of health care and drinking water for nearly everyone in Lebanon," it added.

U.S. liberals see dwindling legal options to challenge voting curbs
The view from the Progressive Left:
[MSN] During the bitter legal battles over the 2020 presidential election, conservative U.S. Supreme Court
...the political football known as The Highest Court in the Land, home of penumbrae and emanations...
justices signaled an embrace of a once-marginal legal doctrine thon the lamly gives state legislatures power to set election rules.

If applied aggressively by the court, the "independent state legislature doctrine," could further empower states to limit voting rights at a time when Republicans, emboldened by former President Donald Trump
...The tack in the backside of the Democratic Party...
's baseless claims of election fraud after his loss to Democratic President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier...
, are enacting new restrictions.

"It is a ticking time bomb," said Rick Hasen, a professor at the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Irvine School of Law.

The doctrine could limit the ability of courts to block voting rules that violate state law. It could also make it harder to challenge the drawing of electoral districts to entrench one political party in power - known as gerrymandering - and factor into lawsuits that arise in the heat of an election.

The doctrine threatens another avenue for challenging election restrictions and maps as plaintiffs and voting rights advocates have increasingly turned to state courts for relief. Unlike the U.S. Constitution, which implies the right to vote but does not explicitly grant it, most state constitutions expressly protect the right to vote.

"It would give the legislatures the authority to pass any voting rules they want without meaningful oversight, particularly under the state constitution," said Josh Douglas, a voting rights expert at the University of Kentucky Rosenberg College of Law. This can undermine voting rights by letting politicians craft rules that help them win re-election, he added.

The doctrine is based in part on language in the U.S. Constitution that the "times, places and manner" of federal elections "shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof."

Four of the Supreme Court's six conservative justices appeared to lend weight to the doctrine during the flurry of litigation around the 2020 election, when Republican politicians or officials sought to block lower court decisions allowing or requiring changes to election deadlines and other rules to account for the coronavirus (aka COVID19 or Chinese Plague)
...the twenty first century equivalent of bubonic plague, only instead of killing off a third of the population of Europe it kills 3.4 percent of those who notice they have it. It seems to be fond of the elderly, especially Iranian politicians and holy men...
pandemic.

Liberals could be taking political risk if they call election

In a Wisconsin case, Justice Brett Kavanaugh, agreeing with the court's Oct. 26 decision to prevent an absentee ballot deadline extension, said in his opinion that "state courts do not have a blank check to rewrite state election laws for federal elections."

Two days later, in a similar case from North Carolina, Justice Neil Gorsuch called it "egregious" that a state court and election officials "worked together to override a carefully tailored legislative response to COVID."

Justice Samuel Alito and Justice Clarence Thomas raised similar concerns about the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's decision to extend ballot deadlines.

'VERY DIFFICULT ROAD'
Given the court's higher hurdles for proving violations of the federal Voting Rights Act, a law that prohibits racial discrimination in voting, or the U.S. Constitution, election law attorneys and voting rights advocates say they are concerned.

"When you add all that together, it signals a very difficult road for voting rights litigation in the future," said Dale Ho, an American Civil Liberties Union lawyer.

The increasing rightward shift of the nine-member Supreme Court also raises questions whether it will overturn a 2015 ruling that narrowly upheld Arizona's decision to establish an independent commission to draw congressional districts.

The court interpreted the constitution's "times, places and manner" provision as referring not to a specific legislative body but instead to a state's general authority to legislate on the issue.

Two of the justices in the majority in 2015, including the late liberal Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who authored the decision, are no longer on the court.

"It’s a very open question whether, with the change in composition of the court: is that subject to overruling?" said University of Kentucky's Douglas. If it is, it could at a minimum threaten redistricting commissions in other states that were established via ballot initiatives.

Shooting reported at North Carolina high school, suspect at large
[NYPOST] A shooting at a North Carolina high school Wednesday reportedly left one student injured — and the suspect is in the wind, police said.

Authorities received a call just after 12 p.m. from a school resource officer about a student shot at Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, news station WXII reported.

"One student is injured, all other students are safe," Winston-Salem Police Department wrote on Twitter.

Police said they were still on the hunt for the unidentified shooter Wednesday afternoon.

"We are actively seeking the suspect. We have no confirmed information of any other shootings or injuries," police wrote.

Footage posted to social media showed SWAT teams responding to the scene, and authorities said they had placed the school on lockdown.

"We and the [Winston-Salem Police Department] have secured the campus and are doing everything possible to keep students safe," " authorities wrote on Facebook.

Myrtle Hines, a mother of three, said that her youngest daughter, Shakyra, was in the hallway when gunfire erupted.

"Shakyra said a teacher pulled her into the classroom as she was on her way into the cafeteria," Hines told The Post.

Hines’ older daughter, Frantazia, 19, had also been on the campus to drop off lunch for Shakyra when she overheard a single gunshot, followed by several others seconds later.

"I mean, it’s really scary. I went to Tabor for all four of my years and I’ve never seen anything like this," Frantazia told The Post.

"You can’t trust your kids to be safe at school or home or anywhere anymore."

She was among the families waiting at the local Harris Teeter supermarket, where students were being transported Wednesday afternoon.

"Parents can report there to be reunited with their children," authorities said. "Reunification will take some time as students are being transported in stages. "

One student at the school tweeted she that she waiting to be "bussed out," but expected to be waiting for some time.

"It’s awful," the girl whose profile identified her as Nicki wrote. "I was terrified."

Minutes earlier, she replied to a tweet about an "active shooter" in Winston-Salem.

"Yeah. Mount Tabor High School," Nicki wrote. "We’re okay though."

No further details were provided about the shooting. The condition of the victim has not been released.

"We are actively investigating what happened and will share confirmed information when available," authorities said.

Shelter for orphans, unaccompanied children to be opened in Syria's Raqqa
[NPASYRIA] On Wednesday, an official in the Child Protection Office of the Raqqa Civil Council revealed that in coordination with Lien Charity, they released a plan to establish a special center for orphans and unaccompanied minors in Raqqa city, northeast Syria.

The plan to establish the center aims to embrace those children who were orphaned are without a guardian as a result of divorce, the death of the parents, or losing them during the war, said Amira al-Hassan, co-chair of Child Protection Office of Raqqa Civil Council.

The center will handle all issues related to children, she said in an exclusive statement to North Press.

This idea will be implemented according to the available limited capabilities due to the wide spread of unaccompanied children who lost their parents during the war, and "through this center, children will receive the necessary care and protection as well as all types of support," al-Hassan added.

Last week, a center for orphaned and unaccompanied children was been opened in the Jazira Region, which was preceded by another one in Kobani, according to Children Protection Office.

The idea to establish the center was posed by the office in cooperation with Lien Charity, and it has been very widely welcomed by residents as a result of the wide spread of this phenomenon in the city, al-Hassan indicated.

On August 23, in an attempt to find radical solutions to children labor phenomenon, Lien Charity in coordination with the Child Protection Office launched a volunteering initiative to reduce the spread of this phenomenon and its impacts on the community and children.

Seattle's 'defund the police' legacy: 'Over 100 additional shootings' compared to last year
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] At a presser Tuesday morning to address a weekend of shootings across the city, Interim Seattle Police Chief Adrian Diaz said, "So far, year to date, there have been over 100 additional shootings compared to the same time last year in 2020."

Following the presser there were multiple shootings the same day in the city, including a 58-year-old female victim who was shot and injured in a robbery in the Green Lake neighborhood.

Prior to the multiple incidents Tuesday, there had been 16 shootings in the last week alone. As of Tuesday morning, there have been more than 380 shots fired, 135 victims and 35 gun killings in the city so far this year.

Seattle is on pace to match or exceed 2020's 25-year record high of homicides. King County is also on track to eclipse last year's record high number of homicides.

According to the King County prosecuting attorney’s latest report on shootings released last week, 197 people have been shot so far this year, up 61 percent over the past four-year average. That number of victims is the highest number, through the 2nd quarter, since the prosecuting attorney’s office began keeping gun violence data in 2017.

The cause cited by police and safety experts is the slashing of the Seattle Police Department (SPD) budget and the demonizing of officers by public officials. Though the crime wave is spread across the city, victims are typically those in poor and minority communities.

In 2021, in the wake of a year with ongoing riots in the city following the death of George Floyd, the Seattle City Council cut the police budget by an $35.6 million on top of cuts made in 2020, roughly 20 percent of the department's budget.

As part of an annual report on the city's consent decree, Diaz described that "amidst often hostile rhetoric," SPD "experienced an unprecedented exodus of officers to other jurisdictions." Since Jan. 1, 2020, close to 300 officers have transferred, resigned or retired. US District Judge James Robart, who oversees a consent decree signed by the city and the Department of Justice in 2012, recently said, "I have seen too much of knee-jerk reaction and not enough forethought," the judge said. "We have to be religious in continuing to reduce bias and disparity, at the same time we need to recognize ... there is an essential requirement for public safety."

Afghanistan
US Treasury Issued License to Ease Aid Flow to Afghanistan
[ToloNews] The United States last week issued a license authorizing it and its partners to continue to facilitate humanitarian aid in Afghanistan, a Treasury Department official told Rooters, after the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, which is blacklisted by Washington, seized control of the country this month.

The specific license, issued by the Treasury Department last Wednesday, authorizes the U.S. government and its contractors to support humanitarian assistance to people in Afghanistan, including the delivery of food and medicine, despite U.S. sanctions on the Taliban.

The license, which expires on March 1, 2022, comes amid concerns that Washington's sanctions on the Taliban could speed an unfolding humanitarian crisis in the country, which relies heavily on foreign aid.

"This is targeted humanitarian assistance designed to help the people of Afghanistan," the official said, adding the assistance is not going to Taliban authorities.

Specific licenses are generally not made public by the Treasury.

The United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
says more than 18 million people - about half of Afghanistan's population - require aid and that half of all Afghan children under the age of 5 already suffer from acute malnutrition amid the second drought in four years.

President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier...
's administration has said it is committed to allowing humanitarian work in Afghanistan to continue despite Washington's designation of the Taliban as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

The sanctions freeze any U.S. assets of the Islamist murderous Moslem group and bar Americans from dealing with them, including the contribution of funds, goods or services. Those sanctions remain in place, the official said.

While U.S. sanctions frequently include humanitarian exemptions, critics say heavy U.S. sanctions like those on Iran

A Taliban offensive as foreign forces withdrew from Afghanistan after a 20-year war culminated in the capture of the capital Kabul on Aug. 15.

The Taliban have said they will respect human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
and not allow snuffies to operate from the country. The group has also encouraged aid organizations to continue their work, saying aid was welcome as long as it was not used as a means of political influence over Afghanistan.

State Department front man Ned Price said on Friday the United States would remain a "very generous" donor of humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and would aim to prevent any of its assistance from passing through Taliban coffers.

From my pitiful understanding, ketamine is a treatment excited delirium - a condition best described as getting too high on illegal stimulants and freaking out. Symptoms include agitation, aggression, confusion, pain insensitivity, superhuman strength, being hot to the touch, sweating, and rapid breathing. Agitation, pain insensitivity, superhuman strength - sounds familiar, eh?

Paramedics *are* a sort of medical professional oriented towards providing first aid. This would include administering drugs like epinephrine for anaphylactic shock, or naloxone for opiate overdoses. I have heard a number of stories of police saving lives by administering naloxone so maybe that has become standard kit.

Government Corruption
Hans von Spakovsky: Missing Ballots in Three States Exceed Joe Biden's Victory Margins
[Breitbart] He's not driven to hysteria
Von Spakovsky shared details of "unaccounted-for ballots" from a Daily Signal report

Hans von Spakovsky, manager of the Heritage Foundation’s Election Law Reform Initiative and a senior legal fellow of the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies, said president Joe Biden’s margins of victory in Arizona, Nevada, and Wisconsin in the 2020 presidential election were narrower than the states’ respective totals of unaccounted-for ballots.

Biden’s margin of victory in Wisconsin was approximately 20,000 votes despite the number of ballots "missing or undeliverable" in the state amounting to 83,000, von Spakovsky noted.

"Remember the margin of victory in Wisconsin was only 20,000 votes, and that basically 82,000 ballots were either lost or undeliverable or were rejected," von Spakovsky said on Wednesday’s edition of SiriusXM’s Breitbart News Daily with host Alex Marlow. "That’s four times the margin of victory."

"Those are the numbers that the Wisconsin Election Commission itself reported to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission," he added. "[The Wisconsin Election Commission] said 6,500 absentee ballots they mailed out were sent back by the postal service as ’undeliverable’ [and] 3,000 ballots that came back were rejected. They don’t say why, but usually [a ballot is rejected] because, for example, the signature doesn’t match, indicating it may have been a fraudulent ballot," he remarked.

Wisconsin authorities cannot account for 76,000 ballots, von Spakovsky stated. "They don’t know what happened to them," he said. "In other words, voters requested an absentee ballot, or [Wisconsin officials] simply decided — in some places in Wisconsin — to simply mail out absentee ballots to everybody, and the ballot never came back, so it’s unaccounted for. These are the official numbers of the election commission [in Wisconsin], and we don’t know what happened to them. We don’t know if [the ballots] got lost [or] if they were stolen and somebody didn’t get to vote."

"This didn’t just happen in Wisconsin. ... The margin of victory in Arizona for Joe Biden was only a little over 10,000 votes. Maricopa County alone has admitted that they sent 110,000 mail-in or absentee ballots to what turned out to be the wrong addresses," he continued

"They were labeled [and] returned as ’undeliverable’ by the postal service," he added. "Same thing in Nevada. ... Clark County sent out something like 93,000 mail-in ballots that are unaccounted for. In other words, they mailed it out [and] it never came back. We don’t know what happened to them, and remember, the margin of victory in the entire state was only a little over 33,000 ballots."

"There are literally tens of thousands of ballots out there floating around, and we don’t know what happened to them," he concluded.

The Public Interest Legal Foundation reported that approximately 15 million mail ballots were unaccounted for in the 2020 election.

#1  If election officials take a single ballot and run it through the counting machine multiple times then by default you will be short paper ballots in a recount.

#1  Very, very sad and points to a possible issue with employee training, as power companies continue to trend toward cheaper contract labor.

#2  More likely they were given tasks that they were unsure of doing properly and also were most likely unsupervised and on their own while doing so. I haven't read the actual OSHA report log yet, so don't have all the details.

The 2nd year electrical apprentices (of a 5-year program) are usually around 18-20 and require 'direct supervision' which means that they must have a journeyman (or higher) supervisor working directly with them and not in the next room (or down the block) doing something else.

#3  If you read down thru the Daily Mail's rather random word salad, you find out that these two guys were newbies working for Pike Electric, an electrical subcontractor.
