Three soldiers martyred, four terrorists killed in separate incidents in KP's Tirah
[GEO.TV] Three Pakistain Army soldiers embraced martyrdom during shootouts with holy warriors at three different locations in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Tirah Valley, the military’s media affairs wing said on Friday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), fire exchange took place between security forces and the "Khwarij" at three different locations in Tirah Valley of Khyber District.

"Resultantly, four khwarij were sent to hell due to effective engagement by own troops."

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
during the intense fire exchange, three brave soldiers — Havildar Inam Gul, 37, resident of District Mianwali; Sepoy Muhammad Imran, 29, resident of District Tank and Sepoy Iltaf Khan, 22, resident of District Mardan, — having fought gallantly embraced Shahadat.

It added that a sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other "Kharji" found in the area as security forces are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve.

Bangladesh
FO rejects Indian claims of Pakistan's role in Bangladesh uprising
[GEO.TV] The Foreign Office has rejected all speculations regarding the purported involvement of Pakistain in the recent unrest in Bangladesh that forced the country's longtime ruler the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and now exiled former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She was President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia showed such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums. That is probably because Khaleda's late husband was the Pak tool who had Mujib assassinated...
Wazed to step down and flee the country.

"Pakistain rejects all such statements. Such statements depict India's disturbing obsession with Pakistain. Indian politicians and their media have a habit of blaming Pakistain for their failures in domestic and foreign policy," FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Friday.

The remark came in response to a question regarding the commentary on Indian media regarding Pakistain's alleged involvement in the situation in the South Asian country.

Bangladesh witnessed one of the deadliest turmoil in its history when millions of students erupted into the streets, initially seeking the abolition of a controversial quota system in government jobs and later an apology and resignation from the then-prime minister.

As the protests grew lethal and intense, Hasina stepped down and fled the country and took shelter in India. Later, the country's army announced the formation of a new interim government headed by Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus as per students' demand.

At least 300 people were killed in weeks of deadly protests that ended the her rule after 15 long years.

Israel's hunt for Hamas's elusive new chief Sinwar
[GEO.TV] Since Hamas’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, Yahya Sinwar has been at the top of Israel’s most wanted list, but the newly appointed chief of the Palestinian group has remained elusive as ever.

Israeli commanders believe Sinwar, 61, is skittering hiding in a labyrinthine maze of tunnels that Hamas has built under the Gaza Strip over the years.

Over 100 Palestinians killed in Israeli strike on school in Gaza City. Honest.
[GEO.TV] More than 100 Paleostinians were killed and dozens maimed in an Israeli strike that targeted a school sheltering displaced people in the Daraj district of eastern Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. , the official Paleostinian news agency WAFA said on Saturday.

As per Al Jazeera, Israeli military confirmed the attack carried out on school in Gaza City, claiming bully boyz were hiding there.

"...dozens [others] maimed after the Israeli bombing of the al-Taba'een school in the al-Sahaba area in Gaza City," Gaza's civil defence agency front man Mahmoud Basal said in a post on Telegram.

Basal described the incident as "a horrific massacre", with some bodies catching fire.

"The crews are trying to control the fire to retrieve the bodies of the deaders and rescue the maimed," he said.

Update from the Times of Israel at 11:30 a.m. ET:
The Gazoo Strip’s Hamas
..a regional Iranian catspaw,...
-run civil defense agency said over 90 people were killed in the Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
, describing the incident as a "horrific massacre." The IDF expressed heavy skepticism toward the claim, saying the numbers appeared to have been inflated.

The IDF said that according to its intelligence, at least 20 terror operatives, including "senior commanders," were at the site when it was struck.

Fadel Naeem, director of the al-Ahli hospital in Gaza City, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that the facility received 70 bodies of those killed in the strike and the body parts of at least 10 others. The Hamas-rung health ministry said another 47 people were maimed.

The army said it had struck an "active" Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. command room embedded within a mosque in the al-Taba’een school complex, in Gaza City’s Daraj neighborhood. It said the site was used by the terror operatives as a hideout and to plan and carry out attacks against IDF troops in Gaza and against Israel.

To mitigate harm to civilians in the strike, the IDF said it carried out "many steps," including using aerial surveillance, "precision munitions," and other intelligence.

It also accused Hamas of "systematically [violating] international law and [operating] from within civilian shelters, brutally exploiting the civilian population and institutions as human shields for their terror activities."

According to military assessments, Hamas operatives are struggling to remain inside tunnels as the long war drags on and are therefore increasingly moving to above-ground sites, while hiding among innocents.

The IDF also said two days ago that it had struck Hamas command and control centers in schools in the Daraj and Tuffah neighborhoods. On Monday it said the commander of Hamas’s Sheikh Radwan Battalion was killed in an airstrike at a school in Gaza City.

Many shuttered schools have been used as shelters for displaced Paleostinians amid the war, but Israel says Hamas regularly uses the sites to run its operations and hide from the IDF. It says it takes steps to ensure its strikes on such sites are precisely targeting the combatants and to limit harm to civilians.

On Friday morning, the IDF launched a new ground operation in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, following what it said was "intelligence indicating the presence of bully boyz and terror infrastructure in the area."

A day earlier, the military told Paleostinians in the Khan Younis area to evacuate to an Israeli-designated humanitarian zone, ahead of renewed operations there.

Col. Avichay Adraee, the IDF’s Arabic-language front man, warned that the military would "forcefully operate" against terror groups in the area.

Some 1.9 million Paleostinians of the 2.3 million Gazook population are currently in the humanitarian zone, located in the al-Mawasi area on the Strip’s coast, western neighborhoods of Khan Younis, and central Gaza’s Deir al-Balah.

The new offensive was aimed at preventing terror groups in the Gaza Strip from regrouping, the IDF said in a statement.

Third teen arrested over Taylor Swift terror plot after pledging allegiance to ISIS
[NYPOST] A third teenager has been arrested over the foiled bloodbath terror plot to strike a Taylor Swift concert in Austria — just days after he pledged allegiance to ISIS, Austrian security officials said Friday.

The 18-year-old Iraqi national was nabbed Thursday night in Vienna after authorities realized he'd been in contact with the alleged ringleader before the sinister plans were uncovered, according to Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.

He had been in contact with the main perpetrator, but is not directly connected to the attack plans, the minister told a news conference.

But, as was found out a few days ago, he took an oath of allegiance specifically to the IS on Aug. 6, he said, referring to the terror group the Islamic State, also known as ISIS.

The third suspect ran in the same social circles as the alleged mastermind — a 19-year-old Austrian with North Macedonian roots, Karner added.

Donald Trump's Trump Media Reports Scant Revenue, Soaring Operating Loss
[via Yahoo Finance] Former President Donald Trump's Trump Media & Technology (DJT) late Friday reported another quarter of sub-$1 million revenue. Operating losses soared while net losses declined. DJT stock was little changed in late trading after the Donald Trump stock suffered a third straight big weekly loss.
Why I said this was a good stock to short and just a coincidence that there was heavy put option buying before the assassination attempt.

[Independent] Former President Donald Trump’s plane was diverted while heading to a rally in Montana on Friday.

The Associated Press reported that the plane was diverted from Bozeman, Montana due to a mechanical issue but landed safely at Billings Logan International Airport. A staff member at the Billings airport confirmed the incident.

The former president was going to a rally in Bozeman, about 140 miles west of Billings, to support Tim Sheehy, a Republican Senate Candidate, at a 10pm rally.

"His aircraft had mechanical issues, and he was diverted into the Billings-Logan Airport," a spokesperson for the airport told The New York Post. "He’s continuing to Bozeman on a private jet," they added.

Trump’s campaign confirmed that the ex-president had landed in a video posted to Truth Social around 5.30pm but it did not mention anything about the reported technical issues surrounding his arrival in the state.

[F24] Iran ramping up cyber attacks ahead of US presidential vote, Microsoft says
[France24] Iran is ramping up online activity that appears intended to influence the upcoming U.S. election, in one case targeting a presidential campaign with an email phishing attack, Microsoft said Friday.

Iranian actors also have spent recent months creating fake news sites and impersonating activists, laying the groundwork to stoke division and potentially sway American voters this fall, especially in swing states, the technology giant found.

The findings in Microsoft’s newest threat intelligence report show how Iran, which has been active in recent U.S. campaign cycles, is evolving its tactics for another election that’s likely to have global implications. The report goes a step beyond anything U.S. intelligence officials have disclosed, giving specific examples of Iranian groups and the actions they have taken so far. Iran's United Nations mission denied it had plans to interfere or launch cyberattacks in the U.S. presidential election.

The report doesn’t specify Iran’s intentions besides sowing chaos in the United States, though U.S. officials have previously hinted that Iran particularly opposes former President Donald Trump. U.S. officials also have expressed alarm about Tehran's efforts to seek retaliation for a 2020 strike on an Iranian general that was ordered by Trump. This week, the Justice Department unsealed criminal charges against a Pakistani man with ties to Iran who’s alleged to have hatched assassination plots targeting multiple officials, potentially including Trump.

The report also reveals how Russia and China are exploiting U.S. political polarization to advance their own divisive messaging in a consequential election year.

Microsoft’s report identified four examples of recent Iranian activity that the company expects to increase as November’s election draws closer.

First, a group linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard in June targeted a high-ranking U.S. presidential campaign official with a phishing email, a form of cyberattack often used to gather sensitive information, according to the report, which didn't identify which campaign was targeted. The group concealed the email’s origins by sending it from the hacked email account of a former senior adviser, Microsoft said.

Days later, the Iranian group tried to log into an account that belonged to a former presidential candidate, but wasn’t successful, Microsoft’s report said. The company notified those who were targeted.

In a separate example, an Iranian group has been creating websites that pose as U.S.-based news sites targeted to voters on opposite sides of the political spectrum, the report said.

One fake news site that lends itself to a left-leaning audience insults Trump by calling him “raving mad" and suggests he uses drugs, the report said. Another site meant to appeal to Republican readers centers on LGBTQ issues and gender-affirming surgery.

A third example Microsoft cited found that Iranian groups are impersonating U.S. activists, potentially laying the groundwork for influence operations closer to the election.

Finally, another Iranian group in May compromised an account owned by a government employee in a swing state, the report said. It was unclear whether that cyberattack was related to election interference efforts.

The Microsoft report said that as Iran escalates its cyber influence, Russia-linked actors also have pivoted their influence campaigns to focus on the U.S. election, while actors linked to the Chinese Communist Party have taken advantage of pro-Palestinian university protests and other current events in the U.S. to try to raise U.S. political tensions.

Microsoft said it has continued to monitor how foreign foes are using generative AI technology. The increasingly cheap and easy-to-access tools can generate lifelike fake images, photos and videos in seconds, prompting concern among some experts that they will be weaponized to mislead voters this election cycle.

While many countries have experimented with AI in their influence operations, the company said, those efforts haven’t had much impact so far. The report said as a result, some actors have “pivoted back to techniques that have proven effective in the past — simple digital manipulations, mischaracterization of content, and use of trusted labels or logos atop false information.”

Microsoft’s report aligns with recent warnings from U.S. intelligence officials, who say America’s adversaries appear determined to seed the internet with false and incendiary claims ahead of November’s vote.

Top intelligence officials said last month that Russia continues to pose the greatest threat when it comes to election disinformation, while there are indications that Iran is expanding its efforts and China is proceeding cautiously when it comes to 2024.

Iran's efforts seem aimed at undermining candidates seen as being more likely to increase tension with Tehran, the officials said. That’s a description that fits Trump, whose administration ended a nuclear deal with Iran, reimposed sanctions and ordered the killing of the top Iranian general.

Migrant Freed from Jail After Allegedly Mugging 80-Yr-Old Woman
[Breitbart] A migrant was released from jail in the sanctuary city of Chicago, Illinois, after allegedly mugging an 80-year-old woman, a new report details.

According to CWB Chicago, 47-year-old migrant Elio Redondo Ragas of Venezuela was arrested and charged with robbing an elderly woman in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago on August 2.

Police allege that Ragas was riding a bike early in the morning when he sought out the woman who was only a block from her home. The woman told police Ragas ran up to her, snatched her purse, grabbed the hat off her head, and then took off on the bike.

Two good samaritans, a 42-year-old man and a 43-year-old man, watched the alleged robbery occur and ran after Ragas. Eventually, the two men got hold of Ragas and held him down until police officers arrived. Ragas was arrested and subsequently charged.

Prosecutors, though, did not request Ragas to be held in jail and, thanks to Chicago’s sanctuary city policy, it is unlikely officers can turn him over to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman thus released Ragas from jail even though he had previously failed to appear in court in a case from October last year.

In that case, Ragas is accused of breaking into an elderly man’s home and stealing beer and food from his fridge. He failed to appear in court and prosecutors dropped the case against him.

Jan 6 rioter who attacked police with pole jailed for 20 years
[BBC] A California man who attacked police officers with a flag pole and other weapons during the US Capitol riot has been jailed for 20 years.

Prosecutors said David Dempsey, 37, was one of the most violent members of the crowd during the attack on 6 January, 2021.

They said he used "his hands, feet, flag poles, crutches, pepper spray, broken pieces of furniture", among other things, to injure at least two officers.
Overexcited or malice aforethought? And if premeditated, was he pro-Trump or an anti-Trump undercover agent?
"Your conduct on 6 January was exceptionally egregious," US District Judge Royce Lamberth told Dempsey, the Associated Press reported.
As an American, the judge likely said January 6th. How often do the vaunted BBC journalists make such simple errors?
"You did not get carried away in the moment."

Dempsey pleaded guilty to assaulting police officers.

More than one thousand people have been arrested for crimes related to the Capitol riot, while hundreds have been convicted.

Only Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the far-right Proud Boys group, has received a longer sentence than Dempsey.

Tarrio was found guilty of seditious conspiracy for orchestrating the attack, and jailed for 22 years.

Officials said Dempsey, a former fast-food and construction worker, had a history of arrests and convictions, including for burglary and and drug dealing.

The court heard that Dempsey wore a bullet-proof vest and a gaiter that covered much of his face during the riot.

He climbed over other rioters on the steps of the Capitol to repeatedly attack police, striking an officer's helmet and cracking his face shield, prosecutors said.

"David Dempsey is political violence personified," a prosecutor said before Dempsey was sentenced.

Dempsey expressed a "profound sense of regret" for his actions, according to US media.

Government Corruption
Special Counsel Confirms Hunter Biden Was Taking Bribes
[Federalist] While President Joe Biden spends yet another weekend in Delaware after the collapse of his 2024 campaign his son, Hunter Biden, is facing new and damning facts from Special Counsel David Weiss.

According to a new court filing, the younger Biden took millions of dollars from a Romanian real estate tycoon in exchange for U.S. policy changes toward corruption in the country.
He’s been identified as Gabriel Popoviciu.
The exchange took place while President Joe Biden was the Vice President during President Barack Obama's administration.

The central question regarding the shady, overseas Biden family business has always been whether Hunter -- who was business partners with his father and often flew on Air Force Two to make deals in foreign countries -- was influencing changes in U.S. government policy in exchange for payment. In other words, was the Biden family accepting bribes? According to new information unearthed by the Special Counsel, the answer is yes.
"Bribes" or handling charges? You decide.

Pentagon Refuses To Rule Out Strikes On Moscow In Shocking Exchange On Ukraine's Incursion Into Kursk
[ZERO] The Pentagon on Thursday was asked by a reporter during the daily briefing whether Ukraine forces' use of American weapons in its ongoing Kursk incursion is "consistent" with US policy of what Ukraine can and cannot do with US weapons. It has become clear that Ukrainian troops are currently using American weapons to attack Russian territory, troops, civilians, and infrastructure.

Spokeswoman Sabrina Singh answered without hesitation that "yes it is consistent with our policy" and explained that Washington has supported the need for "crossfire" from Ukraine back across the border onto Russian positions from which it is being attacked, even if that is on Russian territory. She framed what is happening in Russia's Kursk oblast—an offensive which has entered day four—as 'defensive' in nature.

Singh still tried to point out that it remains US policy for Ukraine to avoid striking deep into Russian territory using American arms; however, when pressed about the scenario of a direct attack on Moscow, she simply said: "I’m not going to put a specific range on it" and thus refused to rule it out. But she did caveat that "we still don't support long-range attacks into Russia." Singh additionally explained, "I'm not gonna draw a circular map for you here of where they can and cannot strike." The Kremlin is likely to remain unconvinced when hearing this clear escalation in rhetoric from the Pentagon where attacking the Russian capital is discussed, even if theoretically. Watch the full exchange related to the Kursk offensive below:

Europe
German prosecutors, police and press continue to denounce and investigate an unending plague of 'Nazi salute' incidents
[eugyppius: a plague chronicle] Once upon a time, the spectre that haunted Europe was communism, but today that spectre is the stiffly extended arm raised to an angle of 45 degrees. Sometimes I cannot sleep at night, so much does the anxiety gnaw at me that a political extremist might be sticking his arm into the air and hailing victory. It is the stuff of nightmares, and the very idea should make you intensely afraid, because nothing conveys confidence in your political beliefs and moral convictions as much as hyperventilating that somebody, somewhere might be mimicking — even by accident! — the signature gesture of a political party that has been defunct for nearly four generations now.

The German economy may be caught in an indefinite downward spiral, we may be unable to practice even the most basic border security, stabbings and gang rapes may be on the rise, and the Interior Minister may be unilaterally banning entire newspapers, but at least we can take heart in the fact that our cultural police are sparing no effort to combat that perennial plague of fascist saluting:

The Saarland police have opened an investigation into the Austrian right-wing extremist Martin Sellner. The police in Saarbrucken announced that they are investigating him on suspicion of using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organisations. Sellner is said to have publicly offered a Hitler salute in the Saarland state capital.

The prominent Austrian extremist was in Saarbrucken on Thursday evening to present a book he had written. The event was private and the group Omas gegen Rechts ["Grandmothers against the Right"] organised a demonstration against it. According to the police, Sellner went to this counter-demonstration and "provocatively" promoted his book there.

The police added that he was filmed and photographed by several people. Some of these recordings were subsequently given to the police with the comment that they showed Sellner giving a Hitler salute. The few videos of Sellner in Saarbrucken that could be seen on Platform X, however, do not show a Hitler salute.

That conclusion seems overhasty to me. In this photo, for example, we see that Sellner is very clearly raising both of his arms.

Iraq
Iraqi court orders arrest of Yazidi Peshmerga...
Another blasphemy case, because Moslems treasure being able to murder infidels, but hate being called out on it.
[Rudaw] A Nineveh court issued an arrest warrant on Thursday for Qassim Shasho, commander of the Yazidi Peshmerga unit in Shingal district, on charges of blasphemy.

The specific charge is insulting Muhammad (PBUH), the Prophet of Islam, and inciting religious conflict and the warrant was issued after a video was shared on social media of Shasho making a controversial remark.

In the video, Shasho is heard saying, "We should not say orders have ended. Orders will not end as long as we live. I am responsible for what I am saying, as long as Mohammed [referring to Islam] exists, orders against us will not end. They are the enemies of our religion."

The term "order," or "farman" in Kurdish, is used by Yazidis to describe the disasters and genocides that they have suffered.

Yazidi history says that the minority has suffered 73 genocides, most recently at the hands of the Islamic State (ISIS), which seized large areas in Iraq and Syria in 2014. In the Yazidi heartland of Shingal in northern Iraq, the group killed about 5,000 Yazidi men and older women, burying some in mass graves, and enslaved nearly 7,000 women and children.

Shasho's statement elicited a range of reactions, from hate speech and criticism to defense and support. Some social media users warned his comments could make things worse for Yezidis and others said Muslims should be open to hearing such criticisms.

After the video of Shasho was shared online, Yazidis said they have received hate speech online.
Yazidis have reached out to Yazda, fearing imminent attacks. We urge national and international actors to prioritize safety, Yazda organization, which advocates for Yazidis and provides services for genocide survivors, said in a post on X.

At an Erbil event this week marking the 10th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani called the tragedy a turning point in Iraq's and the Kurdistan Region's history, urging the international community to ensure such crimes are never repeated.

Shasho's nephew said the situation has been exaggerated.

"This issue, despite our clarifications, has been greatly exaggerated. The intention is to confuse matters, which is why supporters of ISIS are taking advantage of it," Haidar Shasho told Rudaw on Thursday.

Like his uncle, Haidar Shasho is a military commander, leading the Ezidixan protection forces, a Yazidi force within the Peshmerga ministry.

If these actions persist, we will take a stand, as those opposing us today have never spoken against the violations and neglect committed against our people, he said.

A powerful explosion sets off a fireball on a container ship at a Chinese port - ABC News
[ABCnews] A powerful explosion set off a fireball on a container ship loaded with hazardous goods at a major port on China's Pacific coast, state media and authorities said Friday.

Surveillance camera video posted online by state broadcaster CCTV showed a huge burst of white smoke followed by an orange and yellow fireball that dispersed debris and completely engulfed containers stacked at least three high.

No injuries were reported from the explosion and an ensuing fire at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, just south of Shanghai and one of the largest in the world. A container on the docked ship is believed to have exploded, CCTV said.

An aerial photo posted by the broadcaster showed black smoke rising from a stack of containers at one end of the ship and from an area on the dock. The rest of the ship and its containers appeared undamaged.

The Zhejiang Province Emergency Management Administration said the ship was loaded with Class 5 hazardous materials, but it didn't say what they were.

California Dam Demolitions a Victory for Some, Devastation for Others
[Epoch Times] The effort to save salmon has meant the loss of manmade lakes and the tourism they generated.

As the Klamath Dam Removal Project—the largest in the nation’s history—nears completion, reaction to the aftermath has been mixed, ranging from celebration to devastation.

Proponents are celebrating the four dam removals after their decades-long battle to restore the free-flowing river, while other residents and property owners say the destruction of the dams and loss of the manmade lakes is crippling tourism and recreation activities as well as hurting wildlife and increasing wildfire risks.

Environmental nonprofit groups and local Native American tribes have pushed for decades to demolish the dams along the Klamath River, saying they damaged the ecology of the river and blocked upstream spawning habitat, causing a decline in salmon populations.

The project is intended to "improve the habitat and health of fisheries by allowing salmon, steelhead, and lamprey access to over 400 stream-miles of historic spawning habitat upstream of the dams," prevent stagnant reservoirs from increasing water temperatures in the summer, and help alleviate poor habitat conditions that contribute to algae growth and fish diseases, according to KRRC.

The demolition of the four dams—John C. Boyle, Copco 1, Copco 2, and Iron Gate—which were built between 1911 and 1962, is expected to be complete by late August.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Kamala Harris' $8 billion 'shoplifting industry' wrecked California
[FoxNews] Kamala Harris inaugurated a heyday for shoplifters and created a new industry for stolen goods.

Shoplifting in California has become so rampant that it’s no longer just a petty crime. It’s an $8 billion per year industry where organized "rip crews" strip an entire store, resell the goods, and return to steal again. Even while rates of other crimes have declined, reports of shoplifting have increased through the first half of 2024.

Why has California occupied the top position for retail theft nationwide? This decline of law and order in the state happened on the watch of its former attorney general and our current vice president, Kamala Harris.

Harris’ tenure as attorney general from 2011-2017 produced a poisonous cocktail of activist prosecutors, pro-crime initiatives and efforts to undermine police – all of which emboldened a culture of theft.

In 2023, the Golden State experienced what The New Yorker called "Flash Rob Summer" – a free-for-all crime spree that saw mobs pillaging stores like Yves Saint Laurent, Sunglass Hut, Gucci and Nike. Major cities across the country are at the forefront of this crisis, with Los Angeles and San Francisco scoring as the top two shoplifting cities in the country.

But for California, this November offers a chance to turn the tide. Though California’s electoral votes will all go to the Democratic candidate, a statewide ballot measure called Proposition 36 offers relief for the crime wave of the last several years.

Prop 36 is a strong law-and-order initiative aimed at rolling back Proposition 47, a policy passed in 2014 and overseen by Attorney General Harris that shortsightedly reduced penalties for theft and released thousands of criminals onto the streets.

Taiwan detects Chinese planes and ships approaching the island
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Taipei, August 9, 2024, 10:04 — IA Regnum. The Taiwanese army has tracked nine ships and 18 aircraft of the People's Liberation Army of China approaching the island in a day. This was reported on August 9 by the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense on the social network X.

Taiwan's military said 12 Chinese aircraft crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait, entering the air defense identification zone in the southwest and southeast of the island.

In response, the Taiwanese army deployed aircraft, ships, and ground-based anti-aircraft missile systems to monitor the targets.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on July 27, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that Taiwan was and remains part of China and will never be a “separate state.” He stressed that Beijing will definitely take countermeasures when the forces supporting Taiwan in its desire to secede commit provocations.

On July 12, Beijing imposed sanctions on a number of American military-industrial companies selling weapons to Taiwan. The Chinese Foreign Ministry also accused Washington of seriously interfering in China's internal affairs and damaging its territorial integrity.

US President Joe Biden on June 4 allowed the possibility of sending US troops to Taiwan, which he said could happen if China "uses force" against the island.

Chess Player Suspended for Using the Putin Gambit
[OffThePress] Chess Player Suspended After Allegedly Poisoning Rival

A chess player has been suspended by the Russian Chess Federation and is reportedly facing time in jail after she allegedly tried to poison her rival at the chessboard during a tournament.

Amina Abakarova, a 40-year-old chess coach from Makhachkala in the Russian Republic of Dagestan, is accused of trying to poison her rival, 30-year-old Umayganat Osmanova.

The incident unfolded during the Dagestan Chess Championship on August 2, according to a Telegram channel that first reported on the story, and is now making headlines in state-run Russian news media as well as reaching global media as well.

Security camera footage shows the incident where Abakarova calmly walked over to the board where Osmanova was supposed to appear 20 minutes later. It was reported that she’d previously asked if cameras were in operation and been told that they weren’t. She then smeared what is said to be potentially deadly mercury from a thermometer.

Osmanova said she began feeling unwell 30 minutes later, complaining of nausea and dizziness, prompting an immediate call for medical assistance. Doctors eventually concluded that poisoning was a likely cause. After reviewing the footage from security cameras, the arbiter reported it to the police and Abakarova was detained, rtv1.com reports.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Bogdanov: Russia concerned about expansion of conflict in Middle East
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Moscow, August 9, 2024, 17:05 — Regnum News Agency. Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov expressed concern about the danger of expanding confrontation in the Middle East at a meeting with Lebanese Ambassador Shawki Bou Nassar, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on August 9.
t
During the conversation, the parties discussed the military-political situation in the Middle East, which threatens to escalate into a large-scale conflict in the future.

“Deep concern was expressed over the danger of an escalation of armed confrontation in the region with unpredictable consequences,” the ministry said.

Russia, for its part, confirmed its unwavering position in supporting the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.

Bogdanov and Shawki Bou Nassar also discussed current issues of further strengthening the traditionally friendly Russian-Lebanese ties, including holding events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.

The meeting took place at the initiative of the Lebanese Ambassador to Moscow.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, tensions in the Middle East increased in late July after the head of the Palestinian Hamas Politburo, Ismail Haniyeh, and one of his bodyguards were killed in an attack on their residence in Tehran on July 31. Hamas blamed Israel for the attack. Iran sent a message to the Israeli leadership via Hungary about its plans to attack the Jewish state.

On August 5, the media reported that four Israeli Air Force planes flew over Beirut, violating Lebanese airspace.

On August 6, the G7 countries called on the participants in the conflict in the Middle East to exercise restraint. The states expressed confidence that no party or people would benefit from further escalation of tensions in the Middle East.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty discussed the situation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone on August 4. The ministers called for a speedy ceasefire and a general de-escalation of the situation in the region.

Harris Refuses to Comment on All Three of Trump's Debate Challenges
Vice President Kamala Harris
It is time for us to do what we have been doing. And that time is every day
refused to answer on Thursday whether she accepted former President Donald Trump's
...They hit him with slander, they impeached him twice. Nancy Pelosi tore up his State of the Union address on national TV. They stole an election and put his adherents in jail. They vilified him. They couldn't crucify him, so they shot him. Still, they can't keep him down...
challenge to debate three separate times.

Trump offered on Thursday to debate Harris on September 4 on Fox News, September 10 on NBC News, and September 25 on ABC News.

Harris agreed to debate on September 10 on NBC News but refused to comment on whether she would participate in the other two.

"I am looking forward to debating Donald Trump and we have a date of September 10. I hear he's finally committed to it and I'm looking forward to it," she said Thursday in Wayne, Michigan.

Kamala also refused to directly address the allegations against her running mate, Gov. Mike Walz, of stolen valor. "I praise anyone who has presented themselves to serve their country. And I think that we all should."

Throughout the week, Republicans widely mocked Harris for failing to hold unscripted media events.

"Excuse me, what are we doing right now?" Trump questioned during a Thursday presser at Mar-a-Lago. "She's not doing any news conference — She doesn't know how to do a news conference. She's not smart enough to do a news conference."

Trump's comments might have irritated Harris and encouraged her to schedule an interview before the end of the month, she said Thursday after speaking with her team. It is unclear if the interview will take place in the last three weeks of August or whether the interview's scheduling will take place before August ends.

I've talked to my team. I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month, she said when asked when she would sit down for her first interview since entering the presidential race.

Harris failed to give one unscripted presser since joining the presidential race 18 days ago. A longtime Harris ally told Politico's West Wing Playbook on Wednesday that she may continue to avoid the press until Labor Day, 25 days away.

Harris might not be partial to unscripted events for two reasons. First, she has a habit of delivering silly word salads. Second, she appears to be trying navigate policy debates within her own party. Anonymous campaign aides reportedly flipped flopped on five of her radical-left policies.

Iraq
US gives Peshmerga more military aid
[RUDAW.NET] The United States delivered another batch of military aid to the Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga forces on Tuesday, with the US consulate in Erbil calling it a "significant milestone."

"Today we provided important equipment to @KRG_MOPE marking a significant milestone in building the capacity of the #Peshmerga Forces. This weaponry will enhance the Peshmerga Forces’ collective security capabilities to ensure the enduring Iraqi-led defeat of ISIS [Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
]," the US consulate in Erbil said in a post on X.

The aid was given to the Peshmerga in a ceremony in Erbil attended by top military officials.

"Another convoy of aid and assistance from the coalition, which consisted of a number of howitzer artillery was presented by the [global] Coalition to the Ministry of Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and then handed over to the two commands of the Support Forces (1 and 2) of the Ministry of Peshmerga in a ceremony," the Peshmerga ministry said in a statement.

Minister Shoresh Ismail thanked the coalition for the aid and emphasized the importance of the equipment for the Peshmerga.

"The region is heading towards an invisible complexity, and if there is a threat to our country, we must confront it with one voice and oneness," he said.

When ISIS seized swathes of the Iraqi and Syria territories in 2014, Peshmerga played a key role in driving the krazed killer group out of the areas disputed between Erbil and Baghdad, especially Kirkuk. The US-led global coalition provided Peshmerga and Iraqi forces with military assistance to defeat ISIS territorially in 2017.

The United States has provided the Peshmerga with several rounds of military aid over the years.

Babakir Zebari, a military advisor at the Kurdistan Region Presidency, told Rudaw in June that the Iraqi government does not allow the global coalition against ISIS to provide the Peshmerga forces with drones and other weapons to defend themselves from attacks.

Smartmatic president, 2 other execs charged with bribing Philippines election official: DOJ
[ABC] The president of voting machine company Smartmatic and two other executives were charged with bribing the head of the Philippines election commission in order to get business during the 2016 election, according to the U.S. Justice Department.
Raffensperger-Kemp? Nooooo, that's just crazy talk.
Between 2015 and 2018, Smartmatic co-founder Roger Alejandro Pinate Martinez, 49, and Jorge Miguel Vasquez, 62, together with others, allegedly caused at least $1 million in bribes to be paid to Juan Andres Donato Bautista, 60, the former chairman of the Philippines' Commission on Elections (COMELEC), according to an indictment filed in the Southern District of Florida.
Why in Florida? Can’t the Philippines try their own criminals?
The men allegedly overpaid contracts using a slush fund to conceal the bribes.

The co-conspirators then allegedly laundered funds related to the bribery scheme through bank accounts located in Asia, Europe, and the United States, including in the Southern District of Florida, according to prosecutors.

Harris' Walz Problem Just Got Even Messier
[Townhall] Since he was selected as Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate earlier this week, there has been considerable chatter about the headache that Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) has caused. Among the latest causes for concern is a report from Friday detailing how Walz hosted an imam who celebrated the October 7 attacks against Israel and promoted a pro-Hitler website.

As Gabe Kaminsky of the Washington Examiner reported about Walz and Imam Asad Zaman of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota:

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, on at least five occasions as governor of Minnesota, hosted a Muslim cleric who celebrated Hamas's Oct. 7 attack last year on Israel and promoted a film popular among Neo-Nazis that glorifies Adolf Hitler, the Washington Examiner found.

The imam, Asad Zaman of the Muslim American Society of Minnesota, joined other Muslim leaders in May 2023 for a meeting about mosque security with Walz's gubernatorial office in Minnesota. Zaman also spoke at a May 2020 event to call for peaceful protests with the governor during the riots in Minnesota sparked after George Floyd's death. In April 2019, the cleric delivered an invocation before Walz's state address -- just months after Zaman called for an end to a government shutdown at a press conference with Walz in January 2019.

Zaman, moreover, attended a May 2019 event that Walz hosted for Ramadan, social media posts show.

Walz's ties to Zaman could serve as problematic baggage for the Minnesota governor as he campaigns with Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee. News of the ties also comes after a Washington Free Beacon report this week found Walz spoke at a 2019 event with an antisemitic scholar who has defended terrorism against Israel.

...

In recent years, Zaman has also appeared to equate Hamas committing terrorism to Israel defending itself. State records reviewed by the Washington Examiner show Walz's administration has awarded over $100,000 in funding to MAS Minnesota.

...

The Muslim American Society was once described by federal prosecutors as being founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the United States, court records show. The MAS, which the United Arab Emirates designated as a terrorist group in 2014, came under fire in 2019 after a video surfaced online of children at an event held by its Philadelphia chapter calling for the murder of Jews.

We will chop off their heads, and we will liberate the sorrowful and exalted Al-Aqsa Mosque, two young girls said at the event, according to the Times of Israel.

Walz's office and Minnesota's Muslim American Society did not reply to requests for comment.

#1  From Breitbart.

It would be such a shame if this went viral!

Seven things to know about MN Governor (and VP nominee) Tim Walz -

* A June report from Minnesota’s legislative auditor found that Walz’s administration “failed miserably in its duty to properly oversee millions of federal dollars it administered to nonprofits to feed children.” The report said that Walz’s alleged incompetence “created opportunities for fraud.” Axios reported: “The report highlighted several ways in which the Walz administration failed to rein in the fraud, undercutting the governor’s longstanding claims that his agency staff deserve credit, not criticism, for their efforts to catch and stop it.”

* Walz signed legislation to allow minors to get sex-change operations in Minnesota. He signed a bill to require schools to stock period products in boys’ bathrooms.

* Walz allegedly failed to anticipate and react to riots in Minneapolis after the death of George Floyd. Even the liberal mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey, slammed Walz’s response to the riots.

* Under Walz’s leadership, Minnesota gives free college tuition to illegal immigrants.

* Walz signed a bill into law that will give driver’s licenses to potentially 77,000 eligible illegal aliens.

* Walz openly championed socialism last week during a “White Dudes” for Harris event.

* Waltz was also a radical member of the House of Representatives, with Heritage Action giving him a lifetime score of 13 percent.

Honorable mentions:

* Authorities arrested Walz for DUI.

* Walz said it was “ageism for Americans to be concerned about Biden’s fitness for office.

"So that the enemies know!": Zakharova reacted to footage of a wounded Poddubny

Moscow, August 9, 2024, 17:53 — IA Regnum. Russia and its people are capable of withstanding and surviving any enemy attacks, just as VGTRK correspondent Yevgeny Poddubny was able to stay alive after the Ukrainian drone attack, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said on August 9.

This is how she reacted to the first footage of the war correspondent after he was wounded. They show how the wounded correspondent himself went out onto the road, stopped a passing car and asked for a ride to the hospital.

"So that everyone knows: enemies, foes, "not a friend, not an enemy, but just like that" - let's all stand up and go! Like Zhenya Poddubny the day before yesterday, like the men on the front lines every day, like all of Kursk today, like our country historically," she wrote on the Telegram channel.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on the evening of August 7, Poddubny was wounded as a result of an attack by a Ukrainian drone in the Kursk region. The journalist himself reached the side of the road, where a driver from Sudzha saw him and brought him to an intermediate aid point. The war correspondent was hospitalized in the regional hospital.

On August 8, Poddubny was taken to the Sklifosovsky Institute of Emergency Care. The director of the medical institution noted that the war correspondent's condition remains serious but stable, and doctors have not yet observed any significant dynamics.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on attempted murder and obstruction of journalistic activity in connection with the wounding of Poddubny.

Leonid Ilyich's Mistake: How to Make the US President Resign
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

by Dmitry Bavyrin
"There are people who hope that the President of the United States will give in to pressure and step down, but we are glad to note that you are not going to give them that satisfaction." With these words, conveyed in a 1974 letter through the ambassador, Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev tried to support Richard Milhous Nixon, who was being pushed to resign by the Watergate scandal.

The General Secretary valued his American counterpart as a co-author of "détente": Nixon, like himself, was sincerely afraid of bringing the Cold War to a hot Third World War. They talked a lot, drank together, almost trusted each other - there was a "spark" between them, regardless of the General Secretary's famous kisses. But Brezhnev miscalculated: Nixon was "left" after all.

Leonid Ilyich’s mistake is forgivable because it is common.

Few believed that one of the most popular, successful and powerful US presidents in history could be brought to heel. But in just a few months, Nixon had become a despised bigwig and antagonist who is still casually kicked around at home and who was only spared jail by a pardon from his successor.

Many colossi in history have fallen from conspiracies - sometimes exposed, more often suspected.

Behind the first and so far last voluntary resignation of a US president, which happened exactly 50 years ago, there still seems to loom the world government, the Masonic lodge, the powerful handful and other “real masters of America” who overthrew Nixon either for “détente” or for withdrawing troops from Vietnam.

But the thread in any case stretches back to unscrupulous toilet paper manufacturers who left their mark back in the distant forties.

While the Soviets were trying to stop the Nazi advance on Moscow, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission was working on another problem: Was the Red Cross brand of toilet paper intentionally misleading consumers into believing that its product was affiliated with the same Red Cross that helps the wounded? U.S. law prohibits that.

A young, ambitious official named Mark Felt was tasked with clarifying this issue.

After speaking with hundreds of consumers, he says he came to three conclusions. First, most Americans used toilet paper. Second, most Americans didn't like being asked questions about toilet paper. Third, he—a J.D. and former senator aide—was doing something wrong with his life.

With the Pipifax plot unsolved, Felt decided to change his life and applied to the FBI, where he was assigned to catch German spies.

He made a brilliant career, entered the inner circle of the Bureau's creator and the most influential person in the United States, Edgar Hoover, at some point even becoming his right hand. This allowed Felt, after the death of the patriarch, to become the heir to his files with compromising information on the Washington regional committee and the first deputy director of the FBI. However, he was not the director.

But Felt became a secret informant for The Washington Post, hiding for years under the pseudonym Deep Throat, thanks to whom a minor incident in the Watergate hotel complex became a national scandal and Richard Nixon's "Koschei needle."

He later explained this as an impulse of a lover of truth, which few people believe.

According to a more widespread version, Felt was taking resentful revenge for himself and for his father Hoover, who had a hostile relationship with Nixon, and the president took advantage of the director’s death to appoint his own man to head the Bureau, rather than Felt’s actual leader and ready-made successor.

The second version sounds logical, but there is a nuance.

Nixon appointee Louis Patrick Gray deliberately covered for Felt, who was in charge of internal security at the FBI and was looking for the source of the leak, that is, catching himself.

Moreover, Gray himself was ready to become Deep Throat for another newspaper, The New York Times, but the material about this was mysteriously not published.

At the same time, certain forces manipulated public opinion, successfully convincing Americans that they cared about what happened in Watergate.

But they didn't care: despite the scandal, Nixon was re-elected for a second term with an overall result of more than 60% and a clear victory in 49 states out of 50. This record has not been broken since then.

About six months before the election, a security guard at the Watergate office of the opposition Democratic Party called the police and reported a break-in for the purpose of robbery. For some reason, it was not the police who responded to the call, but FBI agents who, after searching the office, found a group of men with wiretapping equipment.

Hacking is a criminal offense, and two of the five arrested had ties to the Nixon campaign. But at first, the incident did not seem outrageous.

First, no one was hurt. Second, politics is known to be a dirty and spy-intensive business. Third, many believed that Nixon's opponent and Democratic candidate George McGovern was a crypto-communist who needed to be watched 24 hours a day.

But then the arrested men were allegedly identified as two of the three vagabonds - almost folklore characters who were seen near the site of Kennedy's assassination.

This version, which "took the covers off" the main political assassination in the United States in the 20th century, has been repeatedly refuted, but it riveted the nation's attention to the seemingly boring trial of the Watergate burglars. And Deep Throat's benefit performance began.

Then a former communications officer who handled the White House-CIA liaison testified that Nixon personally ordered Langley to wiretap Democrats. That was probably a lie, but the CIA is prohibited from engaging in domestic operations even at the president's direction, so Congress launched its own investigation.

By that time, Nixon was already a proven liar with the manners of a godfather, and the entire country was watching the trial of his consigliere, capos and soldiers.

Everyone knew that a special department of daring people had been created at the presidential election headquarters to "solve issues" in defiance of the law. These people had imagination and had huge plans, for example, to turn some Democratic party event into an orgy with the help of bribed prostitutes.

In the public mind, Nixon was like the fat spider at the center of this mafia web.

The real Nixon, wherever he was in reality, did not need all these tricks: he easily won the election in any scenario. A successful and powerful workaholic president, who rose from the bottom and traveled all over America - against the dull and too liberal pacifist McGovern, who was known as the Whiner and All-Winner and took as his running mate (as a vice-presidential candidate) a man with a tendency to manic depression.

Half a century has passed, and it is still unclear what benefit spying on losers could have brought to the presidential team, what the goals of this action were, what the calculation was.

The closest analogy to what happened in Watergate is the Soviet comedy Operation Y. They say about such performers that "drug addicts were recruited from an ad."

They couldn't install the primitive device the first time and sealed the bolt of the lock on one of the office doors with tape - so that it wouldn't slam shut. The tape was noticed and removed by a security guard, thinking it was a cleaning lady, but that same night the same bolt was sealed with the same tape a second time.

After this, the police received a request to arrest the robbers, but instead of the robbers, the FBI agents arrested the all-powerful Nixon's special group for especially dirty deeds, which went down in history as the "White House plumbers."

The head of the group was George Gordon Liddy, another student of Papa Hoover, a brilliant FBI agent in the past. He personally arrested especially dangerous criminals and organized the fight against the mafia in hopeless places in this regard, until he decided to go first into politics, and then to become Nixon's "plumbers".

Nixon himself called Liddy "the most dangerous man in America," but his first deputy, Howard Hunt, seemed even more dangerous.

Hunt served in the CIA for more than twenty years, was part of the Langley elite, and specialized in changing undesirable regimes. Sometimes it worked, as in Guatemala, sometimes it was disastrous, as in the case of the famous landing in the Bay of Pigs to overthrow Fidel Castro. The failure in Cuba cost the careers of both Hunt and his boss, the CIA director, "that same" Allen Dulles, who had a bad plan or no plan at all.

Both "plumbers" were brave, smart, experienced and even literary, only one worked as a "literary ghostwriter" for the FBI director, and the other for the CIA director. But fate brought them to Nixon's campaign headquarters as a kind of toilet paper, to plant McGovern's propaganda materials at crime scenes and to break into psychiatrists' apartments in search of dirt on their patients - the enemies of the "godfather".

The choice, then, is limited: either believe that a team of real James Bonds got screwed over by a piece of scotch tape, or believe what American conspiracy theorists believe - a plot that brought down Nixon when he began to take too much and give too little.

Conspiracy theorists seem like more sensible people in this situation, but there is a nuance - the chaos of everything that happened around Watergate.

The American elite is often accused of using the tactics of “controlled chaos,” but the chaos of Watergate would have been too difficult to manage. Nixon himself tried, but what began as a misunderstanding over duct tape became one of the greatest political disasters in Washington history as the president became involved in protecting “his boys.”

The Watergate scandal bore little resemblance to the subtle mechanism of a seasoned intriguer. Rather, it resembled the planting of a bomb that, when it exploded, naturally scattered everyone and everything around it, including the planters themselves.

Twenty-five influential people, including the Prosecutor General and the head of the presidential administration, went to prison because of their boss.

The vain Felt narrowly escaped their fate - he was identified, forced to leave "quietly", and then persecuted for his own dirty deeds in the FBI. The man who inherited Papa Hoover's archive with the secrets of the American elite squandered this inheritance, failing to extract any visible benefit from it, except for a pardon from President Ronald Reagan.

Liddy and Hunt are among those who saw the checkered sky - one for 52 months, the other for 33, but in the end both lived to be 90 years old each. This is, albeit indirect, but important evidence that there was no general conspiracy - the "pawns" of real conspirators do not live long.

Just before his death, Hunt, allegedly mistaken for a vagrant at the scene of President Kennedy's assassination, confessed to his two sons that he was involved in the assassination of President Kennedy.

True, by that time he was sick with Parkinson's disease, and those two were the "black sheep" in a large family - all of Hunt's other children and relatives accused them of wanting to hype (become famous and make money) on their father's fading age.

This example, even more than the toilet paper story, makes us think about how political life in the United States is actually organized.

Like a puppet theater, where unknown people pull the strings or even cut them, like ancient Greek goddesses of fate? Like a brain center of cunning intrigues, producing everything planned at the click of a finger - wars, revolutions, impeachments?

Or as a banal terrarium of like-minded people?

Outwardly, it is an almost diligent system, but inside, driven by pride, greed and other sins, ordinary people drown and set each other up, making unimaginable and expensive mistakes for everyone because of the belief in their undervaluation and exclusivity.

There is no consensus on Richard Nixon's America. But Joe Biden's America is definitely the third option.

Britain
Russia Sends Troops To Liberate Oppressed British People From Communist Rule
[Bee] LONDON — In response to desperate pleas from downtrodden citizens throughout the United Kingdom, Russia announced it was preparing to send troops to liberate oppressed British people from communist rule.

British citizens who had been crushed under a communist reign of terror reportedly rejoiced when hearing the news that the brave, freedom-loving Russian military would soon arrive to set them free from the despotic British government.

"We have heard the cries for help from the persecuted British people," Russian President Vladimir Putin said when announcing the operation. "Our forces are now on their way to the United Kingdom to liberate these poor, helpless people from the iron grip of their oppressive communist rulers. We are happy to export the freedom we have here in Russia to the countries of the West."

Upon hearing of their impending liberation, British citizens wept tears of joy. "I have been dreaming of this day!" said London resident Wellington Hamptonshire. "We have been living under communist brutality and oppression for so long that we have forgotten what it feels like to be free. Thank God for the kindness of Russia and Vladimir Putin for risking so much to bring freedom to Great Britain!"

Sources within the British government said Prime Minister Keir Starmer remained committed to retaining power and keeping the people of the UK enslaved under his totalitarian regime.

At publishing time, Russia was rumored to also be in the early stages of making plans to liberate the United States in the event of a Kamala Harris presidency.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian perspective: Operation in Kursk region
Direct Translation Via Google Translate. Edited.

22:10 Forbes writes that the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region have applied new tactics of using drones and electronic warfare, which became one of the main factors of the success of the offensive in the first days. Thus, the Ukrainian military first shot down the screen of Russian reconnaissance aircraft-type drones, effectively blinding the commanders. And then short-range jammers, programmed on the basis of data previously received from electronic warfare intelligence, were deployed to the front lines.

As a result, Russian troops, at least at first, were unable to use drones for reconnaissance, fire adjustment, or strikes on equipment and personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, while Ukrainian troops were able to fill the sky with entire swarms of FPV attack drones that flew in a “continuous stream.”

22:03 The German Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine's right to defend itself is not limited to its territory: "Ukraine has the right to self-defense, enshrined in international law. This right is not limited to its own territory."

21:57 The Russian army has partially lost control over 661 square kilometers of territory in the Kursk region, Russian publics write.

21:45 In the Kursk region, as a result of the fall of UAV debris on a transformer substation in one of the regions, a fire broke out, power supply was lost in Kurchatov and five other regions, the regional authorities reported.

20:07 Russian publics show what Sudzha in the Kursk region looks like now. The video shows an abandoned Russian tank and empty streets.

20:01 A video allegedly of fighters from the 61st separate mechanized steppe brigade in Sudzha, Kursk region, has appeared on social networks. "The news is as follows. The city is controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Gazprom's strategic facility in Sudzha is controlled by the 99th mechanized battalion," the fighters said in the video.

19:53 Rosatom announced that in connection with the introduction of a federal emergency regime in the Kursk region, the number of personnel at the construction site of Kursk NPP-2 will be temporarily reduced, but construction continues on schedule, and all systems ensuring the construction of power units are operating normally.

19:48 Kursk region authorities reported problems with mobile signal and internet connection due to DDoS attacks. In turn, Roskomnadzor announced the blocking of the Signal messenger in Russia "due to violation of legal requirements." Publics assume that the ban is related to the use of this messenger by the Ukrainian military.

19:39 Russian pro-war Telegram channels claim that the Kursk region center Sudzha is "almost completely under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces" and that Ukrainian reinforcements are being transferred there. Other pro-war channels report a deeper advance of Ukrainian units - in particular, a breakthrough to the highway to the city of Lgov, the capture of Malaya Loknya, attacks on the village of Snagost and battles in the area of the village of Anastasyevka north of Sudzha, 35 km from the Kursk NPP and 65 km from the regional center. 17:12 A photo of a Ukrainian soldier has appeared on social media, allegedly in Sudzha, Kursk Oblast. It is unknown when the photo was taken. In the background, a Pyaterochka store is visible, located on the western outskirts of the city. Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the presence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces there, but now Russian Telegram channels are writing that there are no Ukrainian forces in Sudzha itself, only in the western suburb of Goncharovka.

15:43 Igor Korpunkov, the mayor of the Russian city of Kurchatov, where the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant is located, confirmed that military action is already taking place several dozen kilometers from the city, and called on local residents "not to panic."

15:35 According to War Mapper analysts, the Ukrainian Armed Forces control at least 155 square kilometers of the Kursk region. For comparison, the Russians control about 150 square kilometers of the northeastern part of the Kharkiv region.

13:37 Publics report that military actions are taking place several dozen kilometers from the Kursk NPP, the situation is tense. Russian war correspondents also report that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have begun to build fortified areas in the Kursk region on the so-called Surovikin line. They also report that Russia is transferring reserves to the Kursk region - MLRS, artillery guns, tanks, vehicles.

11:26 The situation in the Kursk region has been recognized as a federal emergency, the Russian Emergencies Ministry announced.

"ATACMS strikes are needed to destroy fighters at Russian airfields that the aggressor uses for retaliatory strikes. This will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to retain control of the areas of the Kursk region," the source noted.

Markets recovered 80-90% of losses from Monday's Stock Market Dive
Wall Street mounted a major comeback at the closing bell, culminating in a win on Friday and a turn-around that nearly wiped away Monday's heavy losses.

The S&P 500 (^GSPC) rose close to 0.5%, while the Nasdaq Composite (^IXIC) increased 0.5%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) gained 0.1% or about 50 points.

Traders poured back in after Monday saw the worst rout of the year, and Wall Street's "fear gauge," the CBOE Volatility Index (^VIX), soared to its highest levels since the throes of the pandemic. But encouraging labor data and reassurances from analysts and economists helped to level-set the panicked mood.

– Ukrainian formations have attempted to land troops in the west of the Kherson region for the second time in a week. If on August 6, a similar attempt was recorded on the Tendrivska Spit, then this morning the emphasis was on the Kinburn Peninsula.

– At two o’clock in the morning, Ukrainian drones, under the cover of Ukrainian electronic warfare, began to operate on Russian positions in Pokrovskoe. In total, up to four boats and two Baba Yaga-type drones of the enemy took part in the raid.

– The goal of the operation was to seize the building of the sea terminal and provide a bridgehead for further landing of troops. One of the boats managed to approach the shore and land: during the landing, several members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were blown up by mines, while the remaining ones entered into a firefight with Russian servicemen.

– By 07.00 the threat from the enemy was eliminated: one of the boats with the landing force was destroyed, and the rest retreated. Russian troops began to inspect the area of the seaport.

Some say another possible similarity.

JFK was assassinated just weeks after deciding NOT to deploy US troops to Vietnam. Then LBJ deployed US troops.

Nixon Admin in the final wind down of US troops in Nam. Watergate during re-election, then impeachment and resignation.

#2  Didn't have time to sit and listen to the whole thing, the guy should write a book and I might read it.

But I'm all too willing to believe that Nixon didn't do anything that was any worse than some of our more recent presidents (cough, cough, baraq) have done. For that matter, he was a breath of fresh air after Lyndon Johnson who, IMHO, is rivaled only by Franklin Roosevelt for that coveted worst president ever spot.

C'mon, people, forget Carter. He might have been evil but he was too soft headed to do anywhere near as much harm as Roosevelt or Johnson.

Of course the media hated Nixon, just like they do Trump. They hated Reagan too but he wore too much teflon for any of it to stick. It's amazing how much influence the media has over the minds of otherwise intelligent people. If you're ever in doubt, just cast your ballot for the guy the media hates.

#3  I read “Silent Coup”, 1992 book by Len Colodny and Robert Gettlin., The prevailing narrative is that Nixon and his high-ranking associates covered up a 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) headquarters in the Watergate Complex …] Colodny and Gettlin contend that former White House counsel John Dean orchestrated the 1972 Watergate burglary. His motive was argued to have been to protect his future wife Maureen Biner by removing information linking her to a call-girl ring that worked for the DNC.

The interview with Tucker provided the stone-cold proof of the assertion, as Shepard confirms that the anteroom to Larry O’Briens office had the only phone on a small desk that was NOT linked through the DNC switchboard. The assertion was that the photo album in the desk was a visual menu of the prostitutes the DNC had on call for major donors or players, and John Deans future wife, Mo, was among the attractions.
Shepard confirmed in the Tucker interview that one of the Cuban burglars had a key to that desk as well as the phone number to that specific phone. During the arrest he attempted to swallow the key to hide it.
Shepard makes it clear that Dean orchestrated the whole thing, guided the cover-up from his position as White House Counsel, and when confronted, flipped on everybody, and escaped any actual incarceration.
Fascinating story about an innocent President forced from office by a massively corrupt judicial process.

would struggle to meet even a fraction of its aid needs if full-scale war erupts between Israel and Hezbollah, a bigwig said, as it seeks increased donor support amid persistent border festivities.

Nasser Yassin, the minister overseeing contingency planning for a wider conflict, told Rooters Lebanon would need $100 million monthly for food, shelter, healthcare and other needs in a worst-case scenario.

"A small fraction, even 10 to 15 percent of that, would be huge for the government. We will need donors to step up," Yassin said.

Man in niqab who shot at police officers sought in Dagestan
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] A man who fired at police officers during a document check is being sought in Dagestan, republic's Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on August 9.

“We are searching for 41-year-old Demilkhanov Ali Sharpudievich, a native of the village of Novaya Zhizn, Shali district of the Chechen Republic,” the statement says.

On the Khasavyurt-Tlokh highway, while attempting to check the documents for a VAZ 111 730 vehicle, the suspect fired a firearm at police officers. As a result, two law enforcement officers were hospitalized.

The department added that the suspect was wearing women's loose, dark-colored clothing and a niqab.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on June 29, the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, stated that wearing niqabs in Russia should be banned. Before that, in May, presidential adviser and chairman of the Presidential Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, Valery Fadeyev, proposed banning the niqab in Russia. He explained that banning the niqab is necessary to reduce the risk of extremism.

In April, criminals in Karachay-Cherkessia carried out a brutal attack on a rapid response team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. As a result, two law enforcement officers were killed and another was wounded. A "Siren" plan was introduced in the region for shootings.

In April, a drug courier attacked police officers in the Moscow region. Law enforcement officers discovered a hiding place and set up an ambush. During an attempt to detain him, the criminal opened fire, hitting both police officers. One of them died.

#14  Someone should remind the Commissioner of the words of a far more able and righteous countryman of his. The cautionary note about the Iron Curtain and how he is intimating such a thing might be erected across the Western Approaches must needs be stillborn at once...

"we must never cease to proclaim in fearless tones the great principles of freedom and the rights of man, which are the joint inheritance of the English-speaking world and which, through Magna Carta, the Bill of Rights, the Habeas Corpus, trial by jury, the English Common Law, find their most famous expression in the American Declaration of Independence."

"All this means that the people of any country have the right and should have the power by constitutional action, by free unfettered elections with secret ballot, to choose or change the character or form of government under which they dwell; that freedom of speech and thought should reign; that courts of justice, independent of the executive, unbiased by any party, should administer laws which have received the broad assent of large majorities or are consecrated by time and custom. Here are the title deeds of freedom, which should lie in every cottage home. Here is the message of the British and American peoples to mankind. Let us preach what we practice, let us practice what we preach."

Putin is going to be remembered as Vladimir the Stupid, the thief has allowed his friends to rape Russia and now the entire Russian army is in Ukraine with limited ability because they've stolen half of what Russia allocated to the military.

Past time for Russians to see reality and Ukraine is making sure the net stays up in Kursk oblast so they can.

On the estimates of losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Commentary by Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin

Some are perplexed. The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that from August 6 to 9, the enemy lost 945 people killed and wounded, while the General Staff stated that a group of up to 1,000 people with equipment invaded.
It appears, going by past posts on X and elsewhere that the Ukrainians committed parts of three combat brigades to this operation, which should be characterized as a punitive assault, with no real territorial objective.

Let me explain.

1. The General Staff's figure is an estimate - given the active work of electronic warfare, problems with communications and the lack of information about certain sections of the border, it is impossible to establish the number of personnel with an accuracy of one person. The initial figure of the invading enemy forces was estimated at up to 1,000 people. There is no exact information yet on how many the enemy was able to bring across the border in 3 days.

I am sure that the General Staff is now intensively collecting information on the enemy group and its capabilities for the purpose of its further defeat.

2. Secondly, these figures also include victims of massive missile and bomb strikes against the enemy in the Sumy region (I think everyone has seen footage of powerful VKS strikes).

The enemy acknowledges these casualties to a limited extent; blood is being actively collected in Sumy for a reason. So this takes into account the enemy's losses in both the Kursk and Sumy regions. There are more air strikes in Sumy right now.

The losses from these attacks will also be included in the total figure that the military will present tomorrow morning based on the results of today.

3. Thirdly, since August 6, following the forces that entered, the enemy continued to bring additional forces into the region to consolidate their positions in border villages, including engineering equipment. The enemy has several brigades and combined BTGr in the Sumy region, from which the enemy can pull up reinforcements across the border.

We will most likely learn the exact breakdown of forces and losses of the parties during the battle in the southern regions of the Kursk region after it is completed. The main thing now is to stabilize the situation and stop the enemy's initial success. Work on this is underway. Debriefings will also be held after the operation in the Kursk region is completed.

See the original post at the link for map graphics.

By 12 o'clock the situation remains difficult. It is too early to talk about stabilization of the situation.

There are unpleasant losses as a result of shelling of our columns, the enemy continues to try to develop the initiative in a number of areas.
At the same time, the situation in Sudzha has improved somewhat. Our troops are in the city and fighting there, also attacking on the flanks from Sudzha.

No need to whine that certain issues of the SVO are not covered in LiveJournal - those who do not have enough news on the SVO, go to Telegram - there on the 24/7 channel there are materials on the war in Ukraine in huge quantities.

More from Boris Rozhin:

According to Sudzha

At no point during the offensive since August 6 did the enemy fully control Sudzha.

The city was operationally surrounded by midday on August 7, due to the fact that mobile enemy groups that had slipped past the city began firing at cars on the highway, establishing local fire control over the roads, which was clearly visible in videos from civilians trying to enter or leave Sudzha.

Again, on August 7, there were already videos of objective control from drones confirming the presence of the enemy in Goncharovka (from where footage of Ukrainian Nazis looting later appeared) and in the western part of Sudzha. Objective facts confirming the complete capture of Sudzha never appeared.

After the entry of the "Aida" group and other units of the Russian Armed Forces (which are still working there), Sudzha is completely uncontrolled by anyone, there are some floating zones of control due to the limited forces in this area on both sides. In the city itself, meanwhile, since August 6, the presence of our military has remained, who for one reason or another did not withdraw from the city until the appearance of enemy mobile groups in the area of the roads leaving the city.

Today, the situation in the Sudzha area remains difficult, as well as in the city itself. Our specialists are working, this is not an easy job, but there are already successes, the enemy continues to suffer painful losses in the Sudzha area. It is necessary to intensify the defeat of identified enemy targets, reducing the time from receiving target designation to the strike by the Aerospace Forces or UAV operators.

About filming columns

Footage of the movement of columns of the Russian Armed Forces to the front in the Kursk region. For impressionable citizens - footage from the Russian Ministry of Defense is published by TV channel "Zvezda".

Ideally, if we are talking about publishing any footage of troop movements, it is advisable to post footage of columns after the movement is complete. I believe that in this case, footage is also provided with a delay. The troops moved, then uplifting videos appeared in the style of "Ours are coming."

It is worth remembering that the source of information about columns is not only videos from TV channels, bloggers or random citizens, but also the enemy's intelligence/technical reconnaissance, which provides target designation in the effective destruction zone. It can arrive without video, but it is better not to give the enemy additional information ahead of time. Any footage immediately ends up on the desk of Geosynthet specialists.

And most importantly, as they approach the front, it is better to split the columns (including during stops, avoiding crowding of equipment and personnel), so as not to lose too much equipment and people at once in the event of missiles arriving. The enemy will certainly try to inflict additional damage on us when moving reserves, which he of course tracks (including with the help of NATO satellites) and it is worth remembering that strikes can be without video.

Do not think that the enemy does not have its own ways to monitor our logistics without leaked videos, otherwise you will agree that in each arrival of a column moving without taking into account the experience of the SVO, a hyping blogger or a state TV channel will be to blame, and not enemy intelligence that caught our military or media people in one or another negligence with unpleasant consequences.

P.S., The reason for the squabble in Telegram about the video with footage of columns was the episode with the defeat of a column of the 44th Army Corps in the Rylsk area (more than 20 dead and several dozen wounded)
A truck borne rifle company.

Ministry of Defense: Attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through to Kursk Region continue to be repelled
Moscow, August 9, 2024, 11:35 — IA Regnum. Over the past 24 hours, Russian military personnel have thwarted attempts by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to break through deep into Russian territory in the Kursk region, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov, official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, said at a briefing on August 9.

“During the day, active actions by units of the North group of forces and the approaching reserves, strikes by army aviation, and artillery fire prevented attempts by enemy units to conduct raids deep into Russian territory,” the department’s statement said.

Konashenkov specified that the daily losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces during attempts to attack the Kursk region amounted to 945 fighters. The department also reported that Russian aviation and missile forces struck the Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves in the Sumy region.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on August 6, Ukrainian formations attempted to break through to Russian territory in the Kursk region. The following day, the Ministry of Defense reported that Russian forces had prevented the enemy from advancing deep into the country.

Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to President Vladimir Putin on August 7 that the Ukrainian Armed Forces had deployed up to 1,000 fighters to attack Kursk Oblast. According to him, the enemy's losses amounted to 315 soldiers and 54 armored vehicles. The Russian leader called the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack a large-scale provocation.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova called on the international community to strongly condemn the Kiev regime’s criminal attacks on Russian territory.

More from Russian Spring (rusvesna.su)

"Why Ukraine's Generals Took the Excessive Risk of Invading Russia"

Even the Democratic Party mouthpiece CNN writes that Kiev's attack on the Kursk region with the remnants of its meager forces is the height of idiocy and an outright gesture of desperation.

"Kiev needed a victory, but not an adventure. Ukraine's decision to transfer a large number of its meager military resources across the borderwith Russia — in pursuit of headlines but, for now, with an unclear strategic purpose — marks a moment of either desperation or inspiration.

✔And it may herald a new phase of military conflict. Because, at least in Russia’s view, Ukraine’s regular army is preparing to attack Russia, a rare risk for a Ukrainian top leadership whose actions over the past 18 months have largely been criticized as too slow and conservative.

✔So why take this risk now? For the first time in the military conflict, there is talk of negotiations. Russia may be invited to attend the next peace conference hosted by Ukraine and its allies. The share of Ukrainians who favor negotiations, though a minority, is growing modestly. And the possibility of a Trump presidency looms over Kiev.

✔US Vice President Kamala Harris may retain the same steadfastness on Ukraine as President Joe Biden. But it is important to remember that Western foreign policy is a fickle and easily exhausted beast. NATO’s steadfast support for Ukraine has been an exception. And as the conflict approaches its fourth year, questions about how it will end will grow louder.

✔With the prospect of a negotiated settlement less remote, both sides will be looking to improve their positions on the battlefield before sitting down at the negotiating table.”

All in Ukraine for no reasonable logic. Siloviki are going to execute Vladimir Vladimirovich, losing wars isn't cool in Russia.

[Ynet] The Flemish novelist and columnist Herman Briusselmans

accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of murdering children and dragging the world into World War III in his regular Flemish HUMO magazine column published in Belgium. In his writing he incited violence against Jews as a result of the ongoing war in Gaza.
