Citing two dozen unnamed officials from Israel and the US, the report said the two countries — both of which classify Hamas as a terrorist organization — have jointly poured vast resources into the hunt for Sinwar, including "ground penetrating radar" supplied by the US.

Gallant initially ordered fuel supplies to Gaza cut along with other goods on October 7, arguing they would be used to bolster Hamas and would power generators to keep oxygen flowing into the group’s vast tunnel system.
In November, following heavy international pressure, the war cabinet voted to begin allowing in fuel shipments, over the objections of right-wing members of the government who have pushed to cut any aid into Gaza until all hostages are released.
Despite the shipments of fuel, Sinwar long ago stopped communicating electronically, making it much more difficult for officials and ceasefire negotiators to track him, the report noted.
The US and Israel believe Sinwar spent the first weeks of the war hiding in a tunnel under Gaza City, where the report said IDF troops found footage of Sinwar moving his family to another locale.
From Gaza City, Sinwar was believed to have moved to tunnels under Khan Younis, where he came close to being captured at the end of January but fled just before the army raided his bunker.
According to the NYT, this escape was hasty, with Sinwar leaving behind roughly a million dollars in shekels in the tunnel.
As part of its war with Hamas in Gaza, the IDF has eliminated many members of the terrorist organization’s leadership over the last 10 months. Included on the list of targets were the organization’s top three leaders, Sinwar, former political leader Ismail Haniyeh ...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank... , and Mohammad Deif.
Deif was killed in an Israeli Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... in Gaza in July. Haniyeh was killed in a kaboom in Tehran at the end of the month, but Israel has not officially confirmed any involvement in the liquidation. Now, Sinwar, who replaced Haniyeh as Hamas’s political leader, is the most big shot on the list who has yet to be captured or killed.
Some sources in the NYT report believe eliminating Sinwar is the achievement Israel needs to declare that Hamas has been fully defeated, and will make Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu more amenable to ending the military campaign in Gaza.
It is unclear, however, how Sinwar’s death would affect negotiations for a hostage-for-ceasefire deal, as the report says the Hamas leader has had to okay every development in the talks in Doha and Cairo.
Given that Hamas is playing everyone for suckers while they wait for Allah, Iran, or America to step in and force Israel to surrender, the permanent absence of Mr. Sinwar from the proceedings will have very little effect. In fact, like Japan after Nagasaki and Hiroshima, his descent into Hell will likely concentrate his successors’ minds immensely.
The war in Gaza broke out on October 7 following an unprecedented surprise attack by Hamas in which hard boyz rampaged through southern Israel murdering some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and taking 251 hostages. The attack was widely believed to have been engineered by Sinwar, who was released from Israeli prison as part of a 2011 prisoner exchange for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.

not sure how good the ground penetrating radar is
I presume the USA has pretty good stuff and that it is very effective in locating un exploded ordinance. Finding tunnels more than 100' underground would be quite a bit more trouble.

I wonder if an oil exploration crew would have any luck using seismic methods...they can map out underground salt domes and such. Probably not used to working under mortar and small arms fire, though. However, continuous mortar fire might eliminate the need for a thumper truck.

[Hot Air] Wind turbines in Schuyler County, Missouri, seem to be having problems remaining upright. This happened Sunday morning. And as I looked around for more information, there were more turbines in Schuyler County that had either gone over or had chunks fly off onto the deck below.
This turbine came down in April in the same county and is owned by the same company. All wind turbines in Adair and Schuyler counties have been temporarily turned off while Ameren tries to figure out why the entire top of one turbine fell to the ground late last week and was destroyed.
The offshore wind industry is waking up to more disheartening news- another GE Vernova turbine blade has failed, this one off the northeast coast of England.
The failure occurred Thursday morning on an installed GE Vernova’s Haliade-X turbine at Dogger Bank A offshore wind farm.
The towers planned right now for the East Coast are enormous, and I haven't seen the stats for the floating turbines they want for the Pacific. But the newest turbines planned for off-shore projects in the UK are mind-numbingly huge - obscenely so. And will cover hundreds of square miles of ocean.
And there was one more little nugget of information I learned about these massive abominations where none should be, and I really thought about it when I read of the fishermen's defiant boat parade around the Vineyard Wind towers.
In the U.S., the radar interference issue emerged when Cape Wind was proposed and the potential of its wind turbines to disrupt the radar of neighboring military bases became a concern. The initial solution was to propose a huge vessel exclusionary area around the 24-square-mile wind farm.
The issue has not gone away as the Coast Guard has noted that radar interference will prevent it from conducting search-and-rescue operations within wind farms. Given the size of proposed East Coast wind farms, substantial areas where commercial and sport fishing is done, and where commercial ships and pleasure boats transit, the loss of the Coast Guard’s ability to operate in fulfillment of its mission is unacceptable.
That's before one even gets to the part about some of these towers being built 500+ feet above the FAA standards for air traffic. The Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind turbines stand 1,057 feet tall, 548 feet above the FAA standard. The wind turbines of Empire Offshore Wind are 952 feet tall, 453 feet above the allowed height.

[Breitbart] The Syrian asylum seeker suspected of killing three and injuring several others at a "festival of diversity" in Germany on Friday reportedly had a deportation order last year, but authorities failed to remove him from the country.
According to information obtained by German paper of record Die Welt, 26-year-old Issa Al H., the Syrian asylum seeker who surrendered himself to police on Saturday after the mass stabbing in Solingen, was supposed to be deported in 2023.
The attack has led to increased pressure on the leftist government coalition of Chancellor Olaf Scholz to crack down on mass migration and ramp up deportations.
The leader of the centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party, Friedrich Merz, called for the government to begin deportations to Syria and Afghanistan, which have been halted over safety concerns, and to stop accepting asylum seekers from the countries.
"It’s enough," Merz wrote, saying: "After the terrorist act in Solingen, it should now be finally clear: it is not the knives that are the problem, but the people who run around with it... In the majority of cases, these are refugees, in the majority of the deeds, there were Islamist motives behind them."
The CDU leader also called on the government to immediately revoke residence status for any alleged asylum seeker who travels back to their home country after it was revealed that many so-called refugees from Afghanistan had vacationed in their homeland despite supposedly needing asylum from the country.

While the suspect was apparently not on the radar of police for holy warrior leanings, the so-called Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... The alleged knifeman is also reported to have shouted out the jihadist war cry "Allahu Akbar" during Friday’s attack on the diversity festival, which saw three people killed and eight others injured, including four with life-threatening wounds. The suspected terrorist is said to have specifically targeted the necks of his victims.
A judge at the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe ordered 26-year-old Issa Al H. held pending further investigation and a possible indictment after federal prosecutors said that he shared the radical ideology of the Islamic State extremist group — and was acting on those beliefs when he stabbed his victims repeatedly from behind in the head and upper body.
The suspect, wearing handcuffs and leg shackles, was taken Sunday from the police station in Solingen for the initial court appearance.
He “shares the ideology of the foreign terrorist organization Islamic State” and on the basis of his “radical Islamic convictions” decided “to kill the largest possible number of those he considers unbelievers” at the festival, the Office of the Federal Prosecutor said in a statement.
Authorities have documented seven attacks and 21 attempted or planned attacks in Western Europe since October 7, 2023. Thomas Mücke told DW. He works for the Violence Prevention Network (VPN), an organization dedicated to preventing extremism and deradicalizing violent criminals. Mücke thinks the rise is not surprising: "IS identified Western Europe as a target for attacks, obviously with the intention of spreading horror and fear and dividing society so that they can recruit even more people for their cause."
Mücke says that the perpetrators have become younger, with two-thirds of those arrested in Western Europe being teenagers. And the methods that are being used to appeal to them are also tailored to their age. "The internet plays a major role in radicalization and mobilization, as well as in recruitment."
The case of the suspect in the Solingen attack, 26-year-old Syrian Issa Al H.*, who had pledged allegiance to the "Islamic State" (IS) terror group, has highlighted how despite four major reforms in deportation law since 2015, many rejected asylum seekers are still able to fall through the cracks.
In January, the German government agreed to a raft of new measures first proposed by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in 2023. This included extended detention periods for those slated for deportation, extended search and seizure rights for police who suspect a pending deportee to be hiding in a shared accommodation or not in possession of identification, and not informing rejected asylum seekers of their deportation date in an effort to hinder absconding. (There is an exception to the latter for minors or families with children.)
The Deportation Improvement Act also included a new rule stating that membership of a criminal organization, even if you haven't been convicted of a crime, is grounds for deportation.
The provisions of the new law regarding detention and deportation dates came into effect in February of this year, and the search and seizure provisions at the beginning of August.
In light of the changes, the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung reported in May that the official number of deportations in the first quarter of the year had risen dramatically. Some 3,566 people were deported in the first three months of 2023. In 2024, that number had climbed to 4,791, an increase of 34%.
Despite that, according to government records seen by the paper, some 7,048 planned deportations did not take place. In some cases, this is because pilots can refuse to fly deportation flights on technical grounds or because those scheduled for deportation may have serious health issues. However, in the vast majority of cases it is either because the rejected asylum seeker has disappeared or because their country of origin has not agreed to receive them.
PROTECTION OF SYRIAN NATIONALS
If people do not qualify as a refugees under the Geneva Refugee Convention, in Germany they are allowed to apply for something called "subsidiary protection" if they would be in serious danger if returned to their homeland.
Syria was removed from Germany's list of countries to which no one can deported in 2020. And in July, a court ruling on the deportation of a convicted human smuggler said that some parts of Syria are safe to return to. However, most Syrian refugees in Germany are still being granted subsidiary protection or allowed to remain under other circumstances.
Rejected asylum seekers are usually held in detention pending their deportation only if they are deemed a risk to public safety or if it is strongly suspected that they will try to flee. According to German media reports, Issa Al H. had not been flagged as either dangerous or a flight risk.
Further complicating matters in the case of the Solingen suspect were the sometimes complex and overlapping EU asylum laws. Before coming to the German city of Bielefeld and applying for asylum in 2022, Al H. had first arrived in the European Union via Bulgaria. Therefore, he should have been sent back to Bulgaria to have his asylum application processed.
However, if a person is in a second country for more than six months, the responsibility then transfers to their new location.
That deadline is extended to 18 months in the cases of people who cannot be found, during which time the authorities in their last known location are expected to carry out a search. It is not yet clear how extensive a manhunt was carried out for Al H. after it was determined that he had vanished. In any case, when authorities arrived at his accommodation in the city of Paderborn in June 2023 to send him to Bulgaria, he was nowhere to be found.
Some months later he reemerged in Germany, when he was put in the refugee home in Solingen. Due to the time elapsed, he was able to apply for asylum in Germany and was granted subsidiary protection.
LEGAL LIMBO
As of December 2023, there were 242,600 people in Germany slated for deportation. Sixty percent of them are rejected asylum seekers.
Further complicating deportation procedures in Germany is something known as the Duldung, or "tolerance" visa. People who have a Duldung live in a legal limbo where they are not immediately facing deportation because of, for example, a medical issue or because they are attending school in Germany.
People with a Duldung are usually not allowed to work and are restricted as to where they can travel. Local authorities are given the right to issue these visas on an individual basis according to need and how overwhelmed the responsible offices are. This can result in some people staying in Germany without a real residency permit for years.
As of October 2022, people who have been in Germany for five years with a Duldung and have not broken the law are now allowed to apply for an "opportunity visa" and are given 18 months to find a way of sustaining themselves. According to the authorities, pending applications for these visas are also part of the reason why some deportation orders are not carried out.

"It's Business 101. You don’t disrespect your core consumers and you certainly don’t alienate and abandon them in the search to grow and expand elsewhere," said Jennifer Sey, a former senior marketing executive for Levi Strauss & Co.
Sey, the former Levi’s executive, witnessed the corporate culture wars from the trenches of the boardroom battlefield. She was a C-suite celebrity in 2020, charged with managing, polishing and growing the iconic Levi’s brand. Founded by German immigrant Levi Strauss in San Francisco in 1853, Levi's jeans have enjoyed global prestige as a symbol of American culture and opportunity.
But then the "lifelong Democrat" was shaken out of her corporate comfort when she opposed the city’s, the state of California’s, and her own employer’s onerous responses to COVID-19.
"I was a leader in the community and I was just vilified for speaking out against school closings," Sey said. "I was demonized because I cared about keeping schools open. I mean, it became an unlivable place for me."
Sey was forced out after a 23-year career at Levi's in 2022.
"San Francisco is the most aggressively conformist place you can fathom," she said. "It is not inclusive. It is not logical. And it is not progressive."
"Canceled," she claims, by corporate America, she was unable to land an executive-level position that reflected her sterling credentials.
Sey relocated to Colorado and launched XX-XY Athletics, a performance apparel company, in March. She's now a warrior against wokeism. The name of her company is itself an act of defiance against the notion that womanhood exists on a spectrum of sorts.
"The message is that there is empirical truth. Biology is true," Sey said. "It’s very simple, actually. There is XX and there is XY. We can corrupt the truth with language all we want. But at the end of the day the truth is that sex is binary."
The corruption of long-held truths and the embrace of radical ideology that drove her out of Levi's, and has driven customers away from Harley-Davidson, Bud Light, and other revered American brands, is the product of many factors, she believes.
"The elites adopt all these crazy far-left positions to assuage their guilt about having tons of money and privilege," she said.
"The other thing is that these companies are now populated by Gen Z employees from a woke education system and from woke universities who were raised in safe spaces and want you to know their pronouns," she added.
Executives fear running afoul of the surrounding mob, inciting their social-media outrage, and jeopardizing the wealth, privilege and perks they pretend to reject.

Cameron also noted that five years ago, the Business Roundtable, which he said serves as an organization of the CEOs of the largest corporations, decided to redefine the purpose of a corporation away from its profit-motive and toward serving leftist stakeholders such as Black Lives Matter.
He said this leftward move has caused many of these corporations to back “Black Lives Matter, you got Dylan Mulvaney … you get Disney making judgments and decisions to fight a common-sense law in Florida.” He noted that major CEOs and corporations have given $82 billion to Black Lives Matter.
The 1792 Exchange CEO also noted that Larry Fink, the CEO of BlackRock, the world’s largest asset management company, wanted to destroy the fossil fuel industry within the next couple of decades.
“This is all because of, and stems from, the fact that the Business Roundtable wanted to change and redefine the purpose of a corporation,” Cameron remarked.

Authorities announced environmental approvals for SunCable's US$24 billion project in Australia's remote north that is slated to power three million homes.
The project, which will include an array of panels, batteries and, eventually, a cable linking Australia with Singapore, is backed by tech billionaire and green activist Mike Cannon-Brookes.
"It will be the largest solar precinct in the world -- and heralds Australia as the world leader in green energy," said Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek.
It is hoped that energy production will begin in 2030, providing four gigawatts of energy for domestic use.
Two more gigawatts would be sent to Singapore via undersea cable, supplying about 15 percent of the city-state's needs.

The man - described only as having a dark complexion by the authorities - then ran away but it was unclear in which direction he went.

Despite Adams' claims that crime was trending in the right direction late last year, the NYPD revealed that crime went up in virtually every category in 2023. The statistics paint a bleak picture of the city's efforts to address crime that's rocketed since the pandemic - a campaign that has been touted as successful several times over the past year by Mayor Eric Adams. However, statistics show the politician - who ran on promises of addressing violence on the city's streets and is now entering his second year as mayor - was mistaken.
The data, released by the department in December, came exactly two weeks after Adams assured citizens that officials had taken strides in the unrest, while touting supposed gains in public safety. The data shows that rapes, robberies, and assaults are all up from last year, since hitting highs not seen in decades in both 2020 and 2021.
Rape - which rocketed in 2020 when streets were empty and unemployment rife due to unrest caused by the coronavirus - rose by 7 percent, with more than 120 occurring this year than last.
Robberies, meanwhile, rose a shocking 20 percent, despite recent measures taken by Adams, 62, to increase police presence throughout the city.

The statistics directly contradict repeated statements from Adams that New York - which saw incidents of violence and shootings swell to historic highs in 2020 when its streets were hollowed out by lockdowns - was well on the path to recovery, the most recent of which came just last month.
Perhaps because of that, the New York Police Department will see a massive cash boost next year after the City Council adopted a $112 billion budget despite dissent from Democratic socialists. The Big Apple's increase in police spending by roughly $72 million comes under a week after Squad progressive Congressman Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., a defund the police advocate, lost his reelection bid to a moderate. The budget was adopted 46-3 in late June, with three Democratic socialist members voting against the measure partly because of the money for NYPD 'pet projects.'
The boosted law enforcement budget may now indicate New Yorkers' desires to get tough on crime, especially after Bowman's ousting.

[BBC] Canada says it will impose a 100% tariff on imports of China-made electric vehicles (EV) after similar announcements by the US and European Union.
The country also plans to impose a 25% duty on Chinese steel and aluminium.
Canada and its Western allies accuse China of subsidising its EV industry, giving its car makers an unfair advantage.
China has called the move "trade protectionism" which "violates World Trade Organization rules".

Canada's duties on Chinese EVs are due to come into effect on 1 October, while those on steel and aluminium will be implemented from 15 October.

"China urges the Canadian side to immediately correct its erroneous practices," they added.
China is Canada's second-largest trading partner, behind the US.

However, when the lead allegedly started flying, Morales, Antunez’s brother-in-law, fell right alongside the feuding family members who died that day.
Since he was allegedly caught in the crossfire, police have not determined who shot Morales.
Police added that Escobar and Antunez both pulled out their firearms, fired shots, and fell wounded at nearly the same instant.
Escobar had repeatedly warned police that he feared for his life and reportedly filed three police reports against Antunez.
Police arrested family members Santos Alfaro-Escobar and Justo Antunez-Escobar, who both allegedly fled the scene of the shooting.

The issue is primarily affecting iPhone users, and has even affected emergency services, with officials in Seminole County, Florida urging those with an issue to contact its non-emergency line.
When customers were fortunate enough to get through to AT&T support, the company acknowledged there is an outage but offered little reassurance.
There is currently no work around and the company has not provided an estimated time that the issue may be resolved.
Making matters worse, most of the company's senior technical support staff have gone home from their shifts for the day - leaving the issue unresolved, according to The Mobile Report.
Still, AT&T officials say they are working to fix the issue - which they insist is only affecting a 'limited number of our customers.
'We are working to address a software issue that may affect the ability of a limited number of our customers to connect to our wireless network,' a spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
'Keeping our customers connected is our highest priority, so we appreciate their patience as we work to resolve this issue.'
By around 11.20pm EST a spokesperson for the company contacted DailyMail.com with an update about the situation.
'We’ve resolved a software issue that disrupted the ability of a limited number of our customers to connect to our wireless network,' a spokesperson said.
'We apologize for the inconvenience and we appreciate our customers’ patience as we worked to resolve this issue.'
