Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Report: New IDF assessment shows some 6,000 Gazans invaded Israel on Oct. 7
[IsraelTimes] Channel 12 says army data indicates 3,800 of the attackers were members of Hamas’s elite Nukhba force

New assessments indicate twice as many Gazooks breached the border into Israel on October 7 than previously believed, Channel 12 reported Saturday, citing data compiled by the Israel Defense Forces’ Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Division.

Some 3,800 hard boyz from the Hamas
..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
terror group’s elite Nukhba forces smashed through the border fence, the report said, among a total of 6,000 Gazooks who crossed into Israel that day.

Hitherto, figures made public indicated that some 3,000 Hamas-led hard boyz participated in the invasion, massacre and hostage-taking that day. That number did not take into account Gazooks who crossed the fence and participated in the atrocities but were not Hamas members, nor did it differentiate between Nukhba hard boyz and other Hamas terrorists.

It was unclear from the report what the status was of the 2,200 other Gazooks who infiltrated Israel on October 7. Presumably, many were civilians, as extensive footage of the onslaught showed many enter to loot and take part in the assault, while others were likely members of other Hamas units or other terrorist organizations such as the Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
The TV report also said that the border was breached in 119 spots — again, about double the previously widely cited figure of 60 breaches in the Gaza-Israel fence.

Additionally, 1,000 hard boyz inside Gaza were involved in firing rockets at Israel that day, the report said, meaning that a total of some 7,000 Gazooks took part in the onslaught.

Some 5,000 rockets were fired at Israel on October 7, with 3,000 of them in the first four hours of the onslaught, according to the IDF.

Channel 12 said the data was submitted to IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi.

In response to the report, Channel 12 quoted the IDF Spokesman’s Office as saying that the IDF’s operational probe of the events surrounding October 7 has not yet been completed, and is continuing in accordance with situational assessments and operational needs.

Upon completion, the findings will be made public, the front man’s office said.

The October 7 massacre saw hard boyz kill some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnap 251, all while committing widespread atrocities and mass sexual assault. Over 350 people were killed at a music festival and whole families were executed in their homes.

U.S. History: More Than Just New England
[Tom Woods] The 1607 Project

Jon Harris has created an important documentary correcting a major problem with the story of American history, which is typically New England-centered. Virginia, with the 1607 Jamestown settlement, was not only founded earlier, but also generated so many important figures in early American history.

Iraq
15 Dead, 7 U.S. Troops Hurt In Raid Targeting Suspecting ISIS Militants
Updating this story from yesterday.
[Townhall] According to U.S. Central Command officials, the United States and Iraqi forces conducted a joint raid that killed at least 15 people and left seven American troops injured. It is unclear if the mission resulted in civilian casualties.
US troops injured or maybe dead, according to the first paragraph at the link, which was attributed to Journalistic Confusion.
The officials said that ISIS militants had "numerous weapons, grenades, and explosive ’suicide’ belts."

"This operation targeted ISIS leaders to disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan, organize, and conduct attacks against Iraqi civilians, as well as U.S. citizens, allies, and partners throughout the region and beyond," Central Command continued. "Iraqi Security Forces continue to further exploit the locations raided."

The Iraqi military also released a statement, saying "airstrikes targeted the hideouts, followed by an airborne operation. Among the dead were key ISIS leaders. All hideouts, weapons, and logistical support were destroyed, explosive belts were safely detonated, and important documents, identification papers, and communication devices were seized."

Iraq did not initially acknowledge that the U.S. took part in the raid, and it took nearly two days for the U.S. to announce its involvement. The raid comes as the U.S. debates whether to have American troops on the ground in the country. Currently, there are 2,500 U.S. troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria.

The threat of ISIS attacks has increased over the last three years. Last month, ISIS-affiliated actors threatened to attack a Taylor Swift concert in Austria, and this month, a terrorist-affiliated actor went on a stabbing spree in Germany. The U.S. military revealed that the number of attacks claimed by ISIS in Syria and Iraq was on track to double this year.
New math estimate.

‘Loss Of Confidence': Navy Relieves Officer Once Pictured Shooting Rifle With Backwards Scope From Ship Command
[DC] The U.S. Navy relieved an officer who was once photographed firing a weapon with an attached scope facing the wrong direction from the command of a missile destroyer ship on Friday.

Rear Adm. Christopher Alexander, commander of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, relieved Cmdr. Cameron Yaste of his duties as the commanding officer of the USS John McCain, citing a "loss of confidence" in his ability to command the ship. Yaste and the Navy were ridiculed in April after he was pictured in a since-deleted Navy social media post firing a rifle with a scope that was attached to the weapon facing the wrong way.

"The Navy holds commanding officers to the highest standards and holds them accountable when those standards are not met. Naval leaders are entrusted with significant responsibilities to their Sailors and their ships," the Navy said in a statement announcing the move. "Yaste reported to assume the role as John S. McCain’s commanding officer in October 2023. He has now been temporarily reassigned to Naval Surface Group Northwest."

The ship is presently on a deployment in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations, a zone that includes the Arabian gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, segments of the Indian Ocean, and several pivotal points of the Strait of Hormuz, Suez Canal and the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb, according to the Navy. The Iran-backed Houthi terrorists have repeatedly attacked commercial vessels and American forces operating in the area since Hamas started its ongoing war with Israel on Oct. 7, 2023.

Fentanyl Vaccine to be Tested in 2025
[Epoch Times] More than 81,000 people died in 2023 due to synthetic opioid overdose, according to provisional data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Almost 75,000 of those deaths were due to illicit fentanyl. In comparison, the number of U.S. troops who died during the entire 20-year Vietnam war was 58,220, according to the National Archives.

To help address the opioid crisis, doctors such as Dr. Colin Haile of the University of Houston’s Drug Discovery Institute are hoping to block fentanyl’s ability to enter the brain, eliminating the drug’s euphoric effect, or "high." Early results suggest that their method, a vaccine, not only accomplishes that goal but also eliminates fentanyl’s lethality in the vaccinated.

"About seven years ago, it became very clear that fentanyl was becoming a huge problem," Haile told The Epoch Times.
At the time, he and his colleague Dr. Thomas Kosten were researching new vaccines for cocaine and methamphetamines but switched to studying fentanyl once they recognized the changing needs.

Their research led to the published study, An Immunoconjugate Vaccine Alters Distribution and Reduces the Antinociceptive, Behavioral and Physiological Effects of Fentanyl in Male and Female Rats, in October 2022, which detailed the effects of their fentanyl vaccine in rats.

Thanks to the positive results and lack of adverse side effects in the immunized rats, human clinical trials are projected to start in early 2025.

Antabuse blocks an enzyme that is involved in processing alcohol and produces very unpleasant side effects (such as fast heartbeat, chest pain, nausea, dizziness, flushing, and thirst) when combined with alcohol in the body.

Europe
Urgent warning as parcels rigged with 'incendiary devices' explode into flames while being shipped around Europe sparking sabotage plot fears
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] German authorities have issued an urgent warning as parcels rigged with alleged incendiary devices' which exploded into flames while being shipped around Europe sparked sabotage plot fears.

The parcels were sent from European locations to other locations on the continent via freight service providers and caught fire on the way, German news agency dpa reports, citing a message sent to airlines and logistics companies.

The security notice was reportedly issued by the domestic intelligence service BfV and federal crime agency BKA to aviation and logistics companies.

A connection with Russian sabotage has not been not ruled out in security circles, with sources saying the warning is linked to an incident at the DHL logistics centre in Leipzig, in the German state of Saxony, outlet Der Spiegel reports.

In the Leipzig centre, which serves as DHL's global depot, a package containing an incendiary device caught fire in July.

It was sent from the Baltic states and set fire to an entire freight container.

Germany's hard-right AfD set for huge gains in key state elections amid mounting fury over deadly festival stabbing rampage by failed Syrian asylum seeker
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Germany's hard-right AfD party is set for huge gains in key state elections amid mounting fury over a deadly festival stabbing rampage by a failed Syrian asylum seeker.

Voters in two former East German states - Thuringia and Saxony - will go to the polls on Sunday in what could be a celebratory night for the anti-immigration Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.

Opinion polls have the AfD as the biggest party in Thuringia on around 30 percent, while in Saxony it is running neck-and-neck for first place with the conservative CDU.

The projected success for the AfD comes a week after three people were stabbed to death in the western city of Solingen, allegedly by a Syrian asylum seeker, in an attack that has shocked Germany and fuelled a bitter debate about immigration.
A photo of Syrian national Issa Al H., the first image we have of him, can be seen at the link.
Stefan Angelov, 35, a security guard from Jena, the second-largest city in Thuringia, said the AfD was 'the right party' to vote for, 'especially after the attack in Solingen'.

'Open borders, anyone can come in... with who-knows-what in their hands,' said Angelov, who is originally from Bulgaria but has been living in Jena for 10 years.

The AfD is unlikely to come to power in either state, even if it wins, as other parties have ruled out collaborating with it to form a majority.

But the result would still be a humiliating slapdown for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's Social Democrats (SPD) and the other parties in his governing coalition, the Greens and the liberal FDP, as they look ahead to Germany's national election next year. In both states, Scholz's SPD is polling at around six percent.

A third former East German state, Brandenburg, is also due to hold an election later in September, with the AfD also leading there on around 24 percent.

Besides causing a headache for Scholz's coalition, the election could also have international implications if it gives a boost to parties that oppose continued support for Ukraine.

Created in 2013 as an anti-euro group before morphing into an anti-immigration party, the AfD has enjoyed a resurgence over the past 12 months as Germany struggles with a rise in migration and a stumbling economy.

The AfD has also capitalised on dissatisfaction with the three-way coalition government in Berlin that has been plagued by disagreements and stalemate, most recently a protracted dispute over the 2025 budget.

In June's EU Parliament elections, the party scored a record 15.9 percent overall and did especially well in eastern Germany, where it emerged as the biggest force.

The AfD has also notched up several local successes including its first city mayor, but a victory in Thuringia or Saxony on Sunday would be the first time it has won a state election.

The AfD is especially strong in the former communist East Germany partly 'because it has a core of voters there who can identify with its nationalist and authoritarian positions', according to Kneuer.

But the party's popularity there can also be put down to 'a large proportion of dissatisfied protest voters who turn to the AFD because they don't want to vote for any other party', she said.

Saxony is the most populous former East German state, with around four million inhabitants and several large cities including Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz.

Thuringia, which has a population of around two million and whose biggest city is Erfurt, is the only state to currently have a leader, Bodo Ramelow, from the left Die Linke party.

After struggling economically for years after reunification, eastern Germany has recently seen higher growth than western Germany and wage increases have also been higher.

BSW, a new party formed by popular left-wing politician Sahra Wagenknecht after she defected from the Die Linke, is also polling well in all three states.

BSW has enjoyed a swell of support for its stance against weapons deliveries to Ukraine and won six percent in June's EU elections.

'It is possible that BSW could become an important factor in forming a coalition in Brandenburg, Thuringia and Saxony,' Kneuer said.

BBC - Israel says bodies of six Gaza hostages recovered
See also here,
[BBC] Israel says its forces have recovered the bodies of six hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the bodies were located on Saturday in an underground tunnel in the Rafah area of southern Gaza.

The IDF named the hostages as Carmel Gat, Eden Yerushalmi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alexander Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Master Sgt Ori Danino.

Spokesman Rear Adm Daniel Hagari said an initial assessment was they were "brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists shortly before we reached them".

A senior Hamas official, Izzat al-Rishq, insisted Israel was responsible for their deaths, as it has refused to sign a ceasefire deal.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would not rest until those responsible for their killing are brought to justice.

In a statement, he also said his government was committed to achieving a deal to release those remaining in captivity and protects the country's security.

"Whoever murders hostages - does not want a deal," he added.

A group representing the families of those held hostage in Gaza has demanded that Mr Netanyahu "address the nation and take responsibility for abandoning the hostages".

The Hostages Families Forum said that all six held captive were "murdered in the last few days, after surviving almost 11 months of abuse, torture, and starvation in Hamas captivity".

Arabia
Saudi Arabia arrests 20,718 illegal migrants in one week
[ArabNews] RIYADH: Saudi authorities arrested 20,718 people in one week for breaching residency, work and border security regulations, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.
Huh? The home of Sunni Islam doesn’t have open borders???
The Saudi Ministry of Interior said that anyone found to be facilitating illegal entry to the Kingdom, including providing transportation and shelter, could face imprisonment for a maximum of 15 years, a fine of up to SR1 million ($260,000), as well as confiscation of vehicles and property.
HUH???? They are not called "undocumented" and you get 15 years in the can for assisting them? No Soros or Catholic NGOs here...

Why can Saudi ship out illegals and punish traffickers while the entire Western workd is wayciss "far right" literally hitler for so much as asking for a reduction in numbers?

Suspected violations can be reported on the toll-free number 911 in the Makkah and Riyadh regions, and 999 or 996 in other regions of the Kingdom.

#2  Sorry, but knowing first hand how the SAG functions, this article gets it wrong. 1) they are NOT migrants. They are workers brought in for work. They came in willingly. 2) They did NOT illegally enter the country. They illegally overstay their work visa. They have NOT left the country when they should have. 3) The vast majority continue to work for either their sponsor or others who can't be bothered to pay the market rate for workers. Thus these overstayers impact the economy by lowering the market's normal pay rate. Thus making it difficult of legally functioning companies/families to justify paying what it actually costs to import, house, and return manual labor. Remember 99% of these people are manual labor. They aren't petroleum engineers or software programers. They literarily are brick layers, carpenters, bulldozer drivers and street sweepers (have I forgotten a particular category you personally experienced when visiting the Kingdom?). Also they burden the medical system. Third they really do live in terrible conditions, particularly if it's summer ÀND Ramadan simultaneously. Try living in an unairconditioned hovel in Hofuf or Al Kharg or Buraidah. None the less these folks overstay willingly and are illegally remaining in the Kingdom. It expensive to pay for airline seats to fly 20 thousand people overseas, plus the policing effort to round them up, house them and do all this extra work when they should have willingly left under their own or their sponsors cost in the first place. It's not a perfect world, but Saudi does offer ages that continue to attract willing labor to leave their families for mostly 2 to 5 years at a time and not return each year for an annual vacation. These works basically leave home for 5 years at a go and make decent wage. Enough to both send lots back home to their family and still enough to try and overstay when their visa expires. Anybody here have actual; experience with this issue other pertinent information? (that's not hearsay).

#3  Useful perspective, gentlemen. Thank you.

No personal experience with life as a big company American expat trailing spouse in the Third World, Jumbo Grease7837, but what I’ve been told by others of my class about household servants (cooks, maids, nannies, drivers, gardeners) in Saudi and the Philippines, which no doubt applies elsewhere: it’s hard to find someone who speaks English and even can read/write a bit. The odds are high they’ll need a lot of training to accept and perform to First World standards — one friend is a house husband-cum-Eagle Scout (I know, I know, but it’s true!) who discovered he had to teach not only his own native household guard to actually use the gun he’d been issued, but all the other guards in their Caracas neighbourhood as well — so this class of servant, whether imported or domestic, is generally well paid and is found a new employer when one is transferred elsewhere. Ditto for hiring someone they recommend as able or trainable — both to keep your people happy and to increase the number of such people available for the other expats.

There are always stories about how the locals abuse their servants, whether domestic or imported, and too many stories of expats taking undue advantage of them, too. Mr. Wife and I talked about it before I hired my first au pair girl — the university classmate of one of his local PhD staffers — and then I formally sat her down and explained that no one was entitled to those kinds of services from her, and she was to tell me if anyone tried so that I could handle the situation, because none of my people are ever expected to allow themselves to be abused.

All of this is different than underpaid over-stayers working for locals, but I moved in different circles back in the day.

Multi-agency operation in Texas nabs 33 violent gang members in border town of Uvalde
[JustTheNews] Thirty-three members of violent gangs were arrested as part of a multi-agency operation targeting transnational and organized crime in the border town of Uvalde, Texas, and surrounding area in Uvalde County.

“Gang violence has no place here in Texas, we will bring the full force of justice down on these famous criminals,” Gov. Greg Abbott said when directing Texas Department of Public Safety to surge resources there to root out organized crime in September 2022.

Nearly two years ago, a multi-agency operation began, made possible through additional state funding and criminal investigative oversight from DPS targeting an extensive organized crime network operating at the Texas-Mexico border. The investigation focused on the selling and distribution of narcotics, weapons, extortion, aggravated assaults and organized criminal activity of multiple gangs associated with transnational criminal organizations, including Mexican cartels.

DPS deployed special agents to target gang activity in the Uvalde area with a priority of focusing on Tango affiliated gangs and the Latin King gang, which are classified by DPS as Tier 1 and Tier 2 gangs, respectively.

After an extensive investigation, 33 gang members were arrested, including from the Latin Kings, West Texas Tango, Tango Blast, Tango Orejon, Tango Aguilon, Texas Syndicate, Paisa, Texas Mexican Mafia, Maniac Latin Disciples, and San Antonio Walked Down Gang, according to a statement from the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office.
So this could be just the 'hook', 'runner' and 'bank' teams from 10 different blocks. No remarks about quantities seized or big names, or date of arrests.
The 38th Judicial District handed down 68 state indictments related to narcotics trafficking and engaging in organized criminal activity. The U.S. Western District, Del Rio Division, handed 17 federal indictments related to racketeering and conspiracy.

Texas DPS criminal investigators have identified gang activity “as a growing and serious problem in Uvalde and the surrounding area.”

Joining them in the investigation were investigators with the Uvalde County Sheriff's Office, Uvalde Police Department, and U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations. The 38th District Attorney’s Border Prosecution Unit and the U.S. Attorney’s office are prosecuting the case.

The investigation targeted the Uvalde area nearly 10 years after a joint operation in 2015 vanquished major gang operations there resulting in the Latin Kings being disbanded, the sheriff’s office said. Since that time, gang activity increased with the “most recent gang activity involve[ing] some of the children of those former incarcerated gang members.”

The investigation was a collaborative effort “to identify and combat violent crime from the southern border of the United States,” the sheriff said.

“We will not tolerate this criminal activity in our community,” District Attorney Christina Mitchell said. “We will uncover anyone who participates, collaborates or permits this cancer in our town.”

She also said she anticipated more indictments and arrests coming from the investigation.

The indictments and arrests were issued after 33 Latin King members and associates were convicted in October 2020 on federal racketeering charges.

Formally known as the Almighty Latin King and Queen Nation, the Latin King gang has tens of thousands of members operating in chapters in different states, law enforcement officials have explained to The Center Square. In 2020, 33 members of the Austin, San Antonio and Uvalde chapters of the Latin King’s Central Region of Texas, were sentenced to between 45 and 288 months in federal prison. They were convicted for their role in operating a criminal enterprise in Central Texas for ten years beginning in 2005, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Texas.

Suspected Terrorist Detained in Adygea
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] In Adygea, a man has been detained whom security forces suspect of participating in a terrorist organization and recruiting residents of Maikop.

Security forces have detained a Russian citizen suspected of recruiting members for a terrorist organization, the FSB reported on its website today.

"The detainee, being a follower of the ideology of an international terrorist organization banned in Russia, established contact with its foreign emissaries and swore allegiance to the leader of the ITO. On their instructions, he persuaded residents of the city of Maikop in the Republic of Adygea to commit attacks on employees of law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation and then travel to ITO camps in the territory of one of the Central Asian countries," the investigation's version is cited in the department's publication.

The detainee was found to have correspondence with members of a terrorist organization and a "video recording of his oath of allegiance to the terrorist organization." "The Investigative Department of the UFSB of Russia for the Republic of Adygea has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 205.5 "Organization of the activities of a terrorist organization and participation in such an organization" of the Criminal Code of Russia," the report says.

Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for 10 to 20 years of imprisonment.

The video of the man's detention and interrogation was published today by Kommersant. The footage shows that the man was detained in an apartment building. The detainee's face is retouched in the video. Answering questions from one of the security officers, the man said that he planned to go to Turkey "with an Afghan" to meet with a representative of a terrorist organization.
Could be ISIS-K, could be Al Qaeda…

Palestinians say Gaza Tik Tok star, known for videos on life amid war, killed in strike
[IsraelTimes] Medo Halimy’s friends say he found salve in channeling his grief and anxiety into deadpan humor as he filmed his ‘Tent Life’ series, showing life in a humanitarian safe zone
Bad luck.
It was another day of war in Gazoo

, another day of what 19-year-old Paleostinian TikTok star Medo Halimy called his "Tent Life."

As he often did in videos documenting life’s mundane absurdities in the enclave, Halimy on Monday walked to his local internet cafe — rather, a tent with Wi-Fi where displaced Paleostinians can connect to the outside world — to meet his friend and collaborator Talal Murad.

They snapped a selfie — "Finally Reunited" Halimy captioned it on Instagram — and started catching up.

Then came a flash of light, 18-year-old Murad said, a kaboom of white heat and sprayed earth. Murad felt pain in his neck. Halimy was bleeding from his head. A car on the coastal road in front of them was engulfed in flames, the apparent center of the earth-shattering kaboom Paleostinians said was caused by an Israeli strike. It took 10 minutes for an ambulance to arrive. Hours later doctors pronounced Halimy dead.

"He represented a message," Murad said on Friday, still recovering from his shrapnel wounds and reeling from the apparent Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
that killed his friend. "He represented hope and strength."

The Israeli military said it was not aware of the alleged strike that killed Halimy.
Lede buried. Headline should read: Really Nice Guy Killed By Hamas Rocket That Missed Israel, Learns Whether Paradise Is Also For Accidental Martyrs.
Tributes to Halimy kept pouring in Friday from friends as far afield as Harker Heights, Texas, where he spent a year in 2021 as part of an exchange program sponsored by the State Department.

"Medo was the life of the hangout... humor and kindness and wit, all things that can never be forgotten," said Heba al-Saidi, alumni coordinator for the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study program. "He was bound for greatness, but he was taken too soon."

His death also catalyzed an outpouring of grief on social media, where his followers expressed shock and sadness as if they, too, had lost a close friend.

Britain
UK minister suggests she got faster medical care because she voted for Gaza ceasefire
[IsraelTimes] Jess Phillips says she sought medical attention at Birmingham hospital for trouble breathing, was seen by Palestinian doctor who apparently prioritized her due to her political views.

The UK’s minister for safeguarding and violence against women and girls, Jess Phillips, has suggested she received quicker medical care through the National Health Service (NHS) because she voted for a ceasefire in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Speaking at an event titled "An Evening With Jess Phillips" earlier this month, Phillips told attendees of an episode she had where she had difficulty breathing, according to multiple reports.

"Me lips had gone blue, and I couldn’t breathe," she recounted to the audience, saying that she subsequently sought help at a Birmingham hospital.

Describing the scene at the hospital, Phillips was quoted as saying she had "genuinely seen better facilities, health facilities, in war zones [and] in developing countries around the world."

She eventually reached the front of the queue, Phillips continued, "undoubtedly" because of who she was and because the doctor who saw her was Paleostinian.

Phillips explained that the doctor helped her get through because she resigned from the Labour frontbench in November, while Labour was still the opposition, to vote for a resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
"I got through because of who I am. Also the doctor who saw me was Paleostinian, as it turns out. Almost all the doctors in Birmingham seemed to be," she said, according to the Daily Mail.

The doctor "was sort of like, ’I like you, you voted for a ceasefire,'" Phillips recounted, adding that she appeared to have received faster care for that reason.

After the UK election in July, Phillips decried the abuse she and her activists had suffered at the hands of some pro-Paleostinian protesters in what she dubbed "the worst election I have ever stood in."

In her victory speech after she narrowly held her Birmingham Yardley seat, which was accompanied by heckles of "shame on you" and "free Paleostine," Phillips described an instance when a man screamed at a woman who was distributing leaflets for her and cases when her campaign team had their tires slashed.

She also said she believed that candidates standing on the pro-Gaza platform were "deplorable" and that they "have done absolutely nothing to help a single person in Gaza" other than bullying and picking on "mainly women."

Her story about the NHS was criticized by many who said that as a public servant, she should not have accepted preferential treatment, and some who questioned how someone who was known to be pro-Israel or recognizably Jewish would have been treated in comparison.

Phillips has refused or not responded to multiple British publications’ requests for comment on the story.

In a letter published in the Lancet medical journal in November, two doctors, David Katz and Fiona Sim, on behalf of the Jewish Medical Association wrote that many Jewish healthcare professionals had been the victims of "unacceptable and explicit antisemitism" since the Israel-Hamas war broke out on October 7 with the terrorist organization’s attack on Israel that resulted in some 1,200 people being murdered, and 251 hostages taken.

They wrote that the abuse included doctors who openly expressed support for Hamas’s attack, including one who mocked people fleeing from the Supernova music festival where hundreds of people were murdered by terrorists.

"Although these attacks might have come from a small number of people, it is nonetheless a serious problem," they wrote. "Patients, and their families, need to feel safe in the knowledge that those entrusted with their care never express racist — including antisemitic — views."

Anti-Israel BDS calls on UK campuses thwarted by lawfare as antisemitism spikes
[IsraelTimes] Bombastic university protests fuel a record-breaking rise in reported incidents of Jew-hatred — but the type and scope of divestment they seek is often contrary to British law

For decades, the prestigious London School of Economics has been seen as a hotbed of student radicalism and left-wing politics.

But this summer the school has struck twin blows against anti-Israel student protesters — taking legal action in June to end a monthlong occupation of a university building and last month robustly rejecting the demands of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The stance by the London School of Economics (LSE) reflects the failure of BDS campaigners to advance their goals on Britannia’s campuses despite a wave of pro-Paleostinian protests and a surge in antisemitic incidents in the UK following the October 7 Hamas

According to the latest analysis by the Community Security Trust (CST), which monitors antisemitism and provides protection for Jewish venues, there has been "a significant rise in anti-Jewish hate incidents in higher education settings." January to June 2024 saw a record half-year figure and a sharp increase of 465% over the same period in 2023. Nearly three-quarters of incidents — in which the victims or offenders were students or academics, or which involved student unions, societies or other representative bodies — contained discourse relating to Israel, Paleostine and the Middle East, compared to 52% of all incidents nationally.

The Union of Jewish Students agrees. "Following a year where Jewish students have experienced the worst campus antisemitism crisis — that continues to unfold — a renewed campaign of BDS that targets Jewish life on campus is misguided, disruptive, and unacceptable," a union spokesperson said in a statement. "BDS is a divisive

movement prioritizing a single narrative instead of nuanced and respectful discussion. It divides peers, alienates Jewish students and creates an atmosphere that can and has fueled antisemitism on campuses across the UK."

Since October 7, there has been a jump in anti-Israel campaigning on campuses. Student unions have passed motions attacking the Jewish state and demanding university authorities heed the demands of the BDS movement.

But, as has often been the case in the past, events at the LSE have drawn the most media attention. Anti-Israel, pro-Paleostinian students occupied a building on the school’s central London campus in mid-May and issued a laundry list of demands they wanted fulfilled if they were to vacate. These included divestment from "any and all companies identified as complicit in crimes against the Paleostinian people"; a ban on "representatives of the Israeli state or Zionist holy warriors" speaking at the university; and a bar on "active or reserve IDF members who have participated in genocidal acts or war crimes" enrolling at the university as students.

The students also demanded the university issue a public statement in collaboration with the Paleostine, Islamic and other pro-BDS societies "expressing unwavering solidarity with Paleostinian liberation," and trash its adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism.

At graduation ceremonies in July, students receiving their degrees unfurled Paleostinian flags and banners accusing the university of being "an Islamophobic institution." Unsurprisingly, Jeremy Corbyn, the far-left former leader of the Labour Party, addressed students at the encampment, telling them they were "on the right side of history."

Nonetheless, anti-Israel campaigners appear to have largely faltered in their efforts to use the conflict to push their agenda.

In June, the LSE went to court and became the first UK university to take legal action to end an anti-Israel encampment on its campus. The school’s administration has also taken a tough line against students’ BDS demands.

In a report issued in July, the LSE’s governing council said the school would not adopt the divestment policy demanded by the students which, in effect, encompassed all companies "that do business in or with the State of Israel."

The council’s report argues its decision is consistent with LSE’s environmental, social and governance policy, noting the "impossibility of distinguishing this conflict from so many others of concern to different groups within the LSE community."

The council rejected demands that the university back the Paleostinian cause, saying its duty was to preserve "free expression and thought on campus and protect the academic freedom of all our faculty and students." The Israeli-Paleostinian conflict, it said, is "an ongoing geopolitical dispute with many complex dimensions as to which members of our community hold a wide range of views and positions."

And the council said it would protect "protest and criticism," before pointedly adding "so long as it does not cross the line into harassment or hate and does not impede the teaching, research, and learning opportunities of others."

LEARNING FROM THEIR YANKEE COUNTERPARTS
Inspired by similar efforts in the US, the summer saw pro-Paleostinian encampments appear at universities across the country, including at elite "Russell Group" colleges, such as the universities of Cambridge, Oxford, Bristol, Manchester, Leeds, Exeter, and the LSE. In some instances, welcome talks at open days for prospective students were invaded — on occasion, with the permission of staff — by pro-Paleostinian activists. Elsewhere, summer exams were disrupted, canceled and moved due to students barricading themselves in buildings.

The organization UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) has been keeping a close eye on developments, warning student unions and university administrators when their actions are likely to breach various British laws which regulate and have an impact upon the higher education sector.

Student unions, for instance, are charities and are barred from campaigning on issues beyond those directly affecting student life.

Those who administer university pension funds — a key target for activists calling for divestment from Israel and companies linked to the Jewish state — are subject to complex legislation. They are, for instance, not allowed to make decisions which might risk significant financial damage to the fund or which might not command broad support from the beneficiaries of the funds — primarily, former university staff.

More broadly, given their reliance on taxpayer funding, universities have to comply with regulations that bar them from allowing politics to influence their purchasing decisions.

Finally, the UK’s Equality Act is stringent and bars discrimination, harassment and victimization on the basis of factors including race (which covers nationality and ethnic origin), religion, or philosophical belief (which may include anti-Zionism), while public order legislation criminalizes threatening or abusive language and stirring up racial or religious hatred. The Terrorism Act bans the expression of views supportive of proscribed terrorist organizations, such as Hamas.

UKLFI has demanded tougher action by universities to protect Jewish students against antisemitism, harassment and discrimination, while warning them of the perils of acceding to the — often illegal — demands made by anti-Israel activists on campuses.

"We are concerned that they are responding to these unlawful encampments by giving in, which will only cause more trouble in future," Jonathan Turner, UKLFI’s chief executive, told The Times of Israel. "They really shouldn’t allow the intimidation by the encampments to affect their policies. It’s one thing to hear reasoned argument from people behaving in a civilized way, but paying off, as it were, those who are making it extremely unpleasant for many of the other students is not actually the best course."

In April, for instance, UKLFI told the University of Exeter, which is ranked one of Britannia’s top universities, that the "current situation" on the campus was "unacceptable" for Jewish students.

It highlighted "extremely aggressive" weekly anti-Israel protests which were accompanied by chants of "genocide," "murderers" and "from the river to the sea." Jewish students, the letter said, were now being forced to cover up outward signs of their Jewish identity and walk in groups. It also detailed instances of lecturers describing the October 7 massacre as "resistance," and PhD students making "viciously antisemitic" comments in an online group.

In June, UKLFI claimed that Oxford University’s "appeasement" had encouraged disruption which had led to the cancellation of some exams, while others took place amid noisy anti-Israel protests. The exam papers of Israeli, Jewish and Zionist students, who had been the "targets of such venomous hostility and threatening behavior," should be marked more generously than those of other students, UKLFI argued, noting anti-discrimination legislation.

And last month, UKLFI wrote to the vice-chancellor of Bristol University — another top UK institution — after masked anti-Israel protesters disrupted visiting day lectures, and were then permitted or encouraged by staff to deliver speeches labeling the university "complicit in the genocide in Gaza" because it had failed to break ties with arms companies. Anyone choosing to attend Bristol University, the protesters told prospective students and their parents, had a "duty to resist" Israel’s "genocide." The "uninterrupted hate speech," and the role of staff in facilitating it, warned UKLFI, breached the university’s obligations under the Equality Act.

FOCUS ON PENSION FUNDS
A number of student unions — including at the University of Manchester and University of Nottingham — that passed motions calling for BDS campaigns have been forced to reverse course by their trustees following warnings by UKLFI and legal advice that advocating on issues not directly affecting students would breach their status as charities.

Turner believes the situation at UK universities is "not quite as bad" as the "horrifying" position on many US campuses.

Nonetheless, pro-Israel groups are not complacent about the potential threat posed by BDS on British campuses. Turner cites the University of Edinburgh’s response to an anti-Israel encampment which included instructions to its fund manager to pause the purchase of new shares in Amazon and Alphabet (Google’s parent company). Amazon and Google are targeted by the BDS movement because they have contracts with the Israeli government to provide cloud technology.

In a letter to the university’s vice-chancellor in June, UKLFI warned that, if the instruction affected the institution’s pension fund, the university could be opening itself up to legal action.

UKLFI is also concerned about decisions made by the University of Aberdeen in response to a pro-Paleostinian student encampment.

Aberdeen has pledged a review of its investments and its contracts with IT giant HP and fast-food company Subway. (HP provides and operates technology for the Israeli government while Subway’s local franchises are accused of offering in-kind donations to the IDF).

And although the university responded to the encampment’s demand of a boycott of Israeli academic institutions by defending academic freedom, it went on to say that it had no active agreements with Israeli universities and no intention of embarking on new ones.

Britannia’s previous Conservative government was pushing an anti-BDS bill through parliament when the general election was called. While the new Labour administration hasn’t proposed reviving the bill, Turner believes the UK’s existing laws remain "quite strong."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: August 31, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 18:04 The number of victims as a result of today's Russian strike on the village of Cherkasskaya Lozovaya in the Kharkiv region has grown to ten, including two children. Two people died, reported the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

17:49 Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said that Ukraine has given the United States a list of targets on Russian territory that it wants to strike with ATACMS missiles. According to him, the partners are currently reviewing this request. The minister said that the list includes airfields.

Umerov also claims that the dismissal of the Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk is not connected with the death of one of the best Ukrainian pilots, Oleksiy Mes, during the F-16 crash. "I would probably say that this is a rotation, these are two separate issues... At this stage, I would not connect them," the Ukrainian minister noted.

16:18 The Russian army struck the village of Cherkasskaya Lozovaya in the Kharkiv region - two people were killed, eight were wounded, reported the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

13:45 Russians shelled Chasov Yar in Donetsk region, at least five people were killed, reported the head of the OVA Vadim Filashkin.

13:03 The United States has refused to send specialists to Ukraine to service F-16s, The Wall Street Journal writes. According to the publication's sources, the National Security Council has considered a proposal to send civilian contractors to Ukraine to service Western equipment, including F-16 fighters, but intelligence and other agencies have said it would be too risky. The United States hopes that European countries will take on most of the obligations to service the F-16s, the newspaper's sources added.

11:04 Ukraine has deployed one of its few offensive brigades, the Kara-Dag Brigade, to the area around Pokrovsk, writes Forbes analyst David Axe. Kara-Dag, one of the National Guard's offensive brigades, was formed in 2014. The brigade fought near Melitopol in the early days of the full-scale war and remained in virtually the same area for two years. But now it has been redeployed to the east because that is where the toughest fighting is taking place, Axe added.

10:17 Air defense destroyed 24 of 52 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs at night, another 25 crashed on their own, the Air Force reported. Two drones flew in the direction of Russia, another one - to Belarus. In addition, Russia attacked with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and four S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles. Air defense operated in the Kiev, Poltava, Cherkasy, Dnipropetrovsk, Chernihiv, Kirovohrad, Nikolaev and Sumy regions.

09:25 In Donetsk Oblast, two people were killed as a result of Russian shelling on August 30 - in Kurakhovo and Gornyak. Another nine people in the region were injured in the past 24 hours, reported OVA head Vadim Filashkin.

09:18 In the Kherson region, over the past 24 hours, as a result of Russian shelling, three people were injured, reported the head of the OVA, Oleksandr Prokudin.

09:07 As a result of yesterday's strikes on Kharkov, six people were killed, 97 were injured, including 22 minors , reported the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

08:56 The General Staff made a statement on the appointment of Roman Gladkyi as Chief of Staff of the Unmanned Systems Forces. They emphasized that Gladkyi is an officer with many years of service experience, underwent specialized training in Canada, and with the start of a large-scale war, carried out tasks "in various important areas." "The Unmanned Systems Forces, as a separate branch of the military, are in the process of formation and development. This process requires understanding, patience, and sometimes silence," the statement said. Earlier, this appointment was criticized on social networks, including by MP Maryana Bezugla.

08:27 The General Staff announced the estimated losses of the Russian Federation as of the morning of August 31:

  • personnel - about 614,950 (+1360) people,

  • tanks - 8582 (+8),

  • combat armored vehicles - 16,736 (+14),

  • artillery systems - 17,614 (+42),

  • MLRS - 1176 (+1),

  • air defense systems - 940 (+0),

  • aircraft - 368 (+0),

  • helicopters - 328 (+0),

  • Operational-tactical level UAVs - 14,471 (+18),

  • cruise missiles - 2557 (+1),

  • ships/boats - 28 (+0),

  • submarines - 1 (+0),

  • automotive equipment and tank trucks - 23,825 (+62),

  • special equipment - 2977 (+10).

07:57 Ukraine's military operation in Russia's Kursk region is legal and falls under Kiev's right to self-defense, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: "Ukraine has the right to self-defense. And under international law, this right does not end at the border." The Secretary General added that NATO was not informed in advance of Ukraine's plans and did not play any role in them.

At the same time, Stoltenberg believes that Ukraine is taking a risk by advancing on Russian territory, but Kyiv itself must decide how to conduct its military campaign. "President Zelenskyy has made it clear that the operation is aimed at creating a buffer zone to prevent further Russian attacks across the border. Like all military operations, this is associated with risks. But it is Ukraine's decision how to defend itself," he explained.

07:40 At night, Russians fired artillery at Nikopol and Marganets in the Dnipropetrovsk region, one person was injured, reported the head of the OVA, Serhiy Lysak.

05:24 Russia has detained two Colombian citizens who fought on the side of Ukraine and accused them of "mercenarism," the Russian FSB reported. According to the Colombian newspaper El Tiempo, both Colombians were detained in the Venezuelan capital Caracas and extradited to Russia. The sister of one of the detainees reported that the Colombians attracted the attention of the Venezuelan police because they had a Ukrainian army uniform. Alexander Arte and Jose Aron Medina were heading home to Colombia with a stopover in Caracas.

00:38 Ukrainian OSINT project DeepState reports that the Russian army has occupied Karlovka in the Pokrovsk direction, and has also advanced in Galitsynovka, Stelmakhovka, near Dolinovka and Peschanoye.

00:26 The UN Charter gives Ukraine the right to "project force" into the territory of an aggressor country, said British representative Fergus Eckersley during a UN Security Council meeting. The UN Security Council meeting was held on Friday, August 30, at Russia's request in connection with the supply of Western weapons to Ukraine.

"Direct strikes on civilian infrastructure are a war crime. Under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine has the right to defend itself against attacks by Russia. This does not deprive it of the right to project force into Russian territory if these actions comply with international law," Eckersley emphasized.

In turn, the Permanent Representative of France Nicolas de Riviere also stated that Paris supports Ukraine's right to strike military targets on Russian territory: "Russia strikes Ukrainian border regions from military facilities located beyond the Russian border. Ukrainians must have the ability to strike the facilities from which Russia is committing its aggression. Ukrainians must have the ability to neutralize military targets directly involved in operations against them.

The Grand Turk
Erdogan Highlights Turkey’s Expanding Military Presence in Libya
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]
Swanning around as if Turkey can actually afford to be the sultanate he pretends it to be.
Ottoman Turkish President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
stated that Ottoman Turkish forces are fulfilling their duties to the fullest in all their areas of operation, including Syria, northern Iraq, Libya, and Somalia.

Speaking at the diploma ceremony of the National Defence University Military Academy in Ankara, he emphasised that The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
’s military presence in these regions is part of its broader strategy to maintain national security and protect its interests.

Erdogan highlighted that anyone who tries to limit Turkey’s vision to its 782,000 square kilometres of land is out of touch with the country’s ambitions, or simply unaware of its strategic goals.

He underscored Turkey’s commitment to extending its influence and safeguarding its interests beyond its borders, citing the importance of maintaining a proactive and expansive defence policy.

In Libya, Turkey’s military involvement is grounded in the security and military cooperation agreement signed in 2019 with the outgoing Government of National Accord (GNA). This agreement, which includes provisions for training, advisory services, and equipment support, was designed to help the GNA fend off the advance of rival forces and establish stability in the region.

Under the terms of this agreement, Turkey has provided military support, including dronezaps and military advisers.

Erdogan’s remarks reaffirm Turkey’s resolve to maintain its military presence in these regions, asserting that the country’s actions are not just about defence, but also about expanding its sphere of influence and protecting its geopolitical interests.

He pointed out that Turkey’s involvement in Libya is a strategic move that aligns with its broader goals of regional influence and security, particularly in areas crucial to its national interests.

Number of armed clashes has grown to 109 - Ukrainian General Staff

Ukrainian military holds the defense with dignity.

It is very hot in the Donetsk region, and the largest number of clashes are in the Pokrovsk direction, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine published operational information on the Russian invasion as of 16:00 on Saturday, August 31.

It is reported that since the beginning of the day the number of combat clashes along the entire front line has increased to 109: the most active enemy is in the Pokrovsk and Kurakhovsk directions.

In the Sumy and Chernigov regions, 15 districts of different settlements came under enemy artillery strikes.

"Among them are Khrenovka, Ulanovo, Velikaya Pisarevka, Slavgorod and Stepok. Sopich was shelled twice, and Porozok three times. Russian terrorists targeted Glukhov, Manukhovka, Zhuravka and Obody with aerial bombs, in particular," the report says.

In the Kharkov direction, the enemy attack continues in the area of Volchansk, Liptsy and Malye Prokhody suffered bomb strikes.

In the Kupyansk direction, the Russians began to storm the positions of our units 12 times near Sinkovka, Kolesnikovka and in the direction of Lozovaya; six combat clashes are still ongoing.

"In the Liman direction, the invading army carried out six attacks on Ukrainian positions near Tverdokhlebovoye, Nevsky, Novosadovoye, Dibrova and in the Serebryansky forest during the day. Three combat clashes ended without success for the enemy, and three continue. The occupiers fired unguided rockets from Ka-52 helicopters," the General Staff reported.

It is also noted that the enemy is trying to find a weakness in our defense in the Northern direction.

Near Verkhnekamenskoye, Vyimka, Zvonovka and Spornoye, he carried out seven attacks. He received a tough rebuff. The fighting near Vyimka and Verkhnekamenskoye is still ongoing, the General Staff reported.

In the Kramatorsk direction, the invaders began 12 assaults near Kalinovka, Chasovy Yar, Andreyevka and Kleshchievka, three of which have not yet been completed. The General Staff notes that the enemy is suffering losses and concentrating its efforts in the areas of Kalinovka and Andreyevka.

In the Toretsk direction, the number of enemy attacks has increased to nine. Our soldiers stopped eight of them. The battle is still being fought in the Nelipovka area, where the enemy is attacking most actively, the report continues.

But the greatest number of armed clashes are in the Pokrovsky direction.

"Since the beginning of the day, the occupiers have already made 23 attempts to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of seven different settlements. Most of the clashes, almost half, took place near Novogrodovka. Selidovo and Pokrovsk were hit by UABs," the General Staff clarified.

It is also reported that 21 enemy attacks were recorded in the direction of Ukrainsk, Lesovka, Galitsynovka, Georgievka and Konstantinovka in the Kurakhovsky direction. The occupiers made their main efforts in the areas of Georgievka and Konstantinovka - they carried out eleven and five assaults, respectively.

In the Vremovsky direction, two military clashes continue near Ugledar and Vremovka; the enemy has attacked three more times in the direction of Makarovka, but has received a tough rebuff.

In the Orekhov direction, the occupiers unsuccessfully attacked three times - at Malaya Tokmachka and Rabotino. Twenty unguided air missiles were launched at Rivnepolye.

In the Dnieper direction, one enemy assault was successfully repelled.

In other directions there are no significant changes.

Let us recall that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the total number of Russian military casualties has reached almost 615 thousand people . In the previous day alone, 1,360 fighters were lost, which is close to a record figure.

Earlier , footage appeared online of a bridge across the Seim River in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation destroyed by Ukrainian troops.

Built to battle ‘woke’ academia, a new Texas school takes on fresh relevance after Oct. 7
Even as students and their parents are turning away from the elite universities because they’ve become forces of anti-education, new institutions arise to fill the need for a classical education.
[IsraelTimes] With a notable contingent of Jewish students and faculty, the University of Austin private liberal arts college is about to launch its inaugural undergraduate class.

The third floor of a historic high-rise in downtown Austin, Texas, with restricted elevator access may be an unexpected place to find a college campus, but it’s where America’s newest private university is preparing to open its doors to an inaugural undergraduate cohort this fall.

According to founding president Pano Kanelos, the University of Austin, or UATX, aims to address the perceived decline in intellectual freedom and prioritization of knowledge at established universities, with an emphasis on open inquiry, critical thinking, respectful, vigorous debate, and persuasive writing.

“Our core motivation is to renew the spirit of higher education,” explained Kanelos, a Shakespeare scholar who has become an outspoken advocate for classical education — study based on traditional liberal arts rooted in the canon of Western thought — following years of what he and other perceive as a retreat from the central purpose of higher education and academic scholarship.

The school’s opening on August 26 — several years in the making — comes at what many see as an inflection point for higher education in the US, with college campuses protests over Israel’s war against Hamas focusing attention on wider cultural battles taking place in academia that UATX aims to address.

The university was established in the wake of a number of watershed cultural events in American public life over the past few years that have affected how Americans converse and think about race, sexuality, gender, and a variety of other hot-button issues.

In many places, the protests have been viewed within the lens of a wider cultural battle that has been brewing in higher education for years: the clash between academia’s embrace of efforts to create safe, inclusive spaces for students and teachers representing a wide diversity of views and backgrounds and those who view those efforts as the latest iteration of PC culture gone wild, muzzling speech by “canceling” any whose ideas are deemed insufficiently in line with progressive ideals.

Those behind UATX are aiming to counter what Panelos described as the gradual but forceful introduction of “ideological protocols” at universities, which have ended up “distorting knowledge.”

“Universities have historically been places where we do our own thinking, places we dedicate to thinking, to knowledge creation, to the transmission of knowledge, to the preservation of knowledge,” he told The Times of Israel in an on-site interview this spring. At traditional institutions, “all the evidence points to a kind of retreat from that commitment” and at “many, if not most, universities and especially… elite universities… the pursuit of knowledge is maybe not always prioritized.”

While UATX was created years before the Israel-Hamas war turned antisemitism on campus into a major hot-button issue, Kanelos said one of the reasons it was founded was “because the very things that are causing that kind of antisemitic agitation at universities, the very kind of ideological positions that generate that, are the things that we’ve identified years ago as being problematic at universities.”

“In many ways, we started this university to create an institution that wouldn’t be vulnerable to the kind of ideological strains that are generating some of the most atrocious behavior we’re seeing on campuses,” he told The Times of Israel, speaking a week before the first pro-Palestinian tent had been pitched on a college campus.

The school’s first cohort will consist of about 100 students, some of them fresh out of high school, others with some university or higher education experience under their belt. The students were selected from about 2,500 applicants through what the University of Austin, or UATX, described as a rigorous admissions process — high SAT scores, various entrance exams on knowledge and ability, an essay and a personal statement.

Kanelos said the institution sought to recruit students “the way you might recruit a professional football team – pick each student very carefully because they’re going to create the foundational culture.”

That culture is of high importance to the newly accredited four-year university, whose motto urges faculty and students to commit to the “fearless pursuit of truth.”

The school’s incoming undergraduates will study toward a BA in Liberal Studies, the only program offered.

The first two years will focus on what the school calls Intellectual Foundations, offering programs diving into the works of Homer, Plato, George Orwell, Tocqueville, Confucius, and Descartes among others; readings will also include the Book of Genesis and the Gospel of John.

UATX’s Intellectual Foundations is led by Prof. Jacob Howland, who serves as dean of the program and previously taught philosophy at the University of Tulsa. Howland was also a senior fellow at the Tikvah Fund, a conservative philanthropic foundation that invests in a range of educational initiatives in Israel and the US.

In the third and fourth years, students will pursue fellowships and internships in their areas of study and work with scholars and researchers at UATX’s Center for Economics, Politics, & History, the Center for Arts & Letters, and the Center for Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics.

“Our curriculum won’t be for the faint of heart,” the university has warned. “Courses will be purpose-driven, cohesive, and intellectually rigorous. That’s exactly what an education should be.”

BIRDS OF A FEATHER
Kanelos says the campus was founded as a pushback to the sort of groupthink and “atrocious behavior” that shuts down the free exchange of ideas on other campuses, though some have argued that the school is creating its own sort of echo chamber.

Some of the students who spoke to The Times of Israel expressed a desire to be part of a select group of kindred spirits, while also being critical of the sort of peer pressure and ideological and political homogeneity they say exists on US campuses today.

In NYC, Jewish school with focus on West’s achievements to open with 40 students

[IsraelTimes] Tikvah Fund launches Emet Classical Academy, which eschews ‘woke’ educational values, as many Jews are disillusioned with progressive spaces often seen as less welcoming to them.

#2  That’s no NYC enclave, Skidmark — Rochester is in Western New York State on Lake Ontario. The Mail reporters are clearly not up on their American geography.

Key paragraph from the article:

Researchers attribute the drop to families switching to private schools - aided by an expansion of voucher programs in many red and purple states - and to homeschooling, which has seen especially strong growth.

IDF claims several bodies found in underground Gaza tunnels, Israeli hostages possibly among deceased UPDATE: 6 freshly murdered hostages named

[NY Post] Several bodies that could be those of kidnapped Israeli hostages were found in underground areas in Gaza, according to reports.

"At this stage, the forces are still operating in the area and carrying out a process to extract and identify the bodies, which will last several hours," the military said in a statement obtained by the Times of Israel.

Although the IDF shared few details about the recovery, it told the Jerusalem Post that the bodies could not have been killed by any recent fight with Hamas in the area because the military did not use force nearby.

Also, the exact number of remains was not disclosed.

The Jerusalem Post also said that the identity of the bodies could not be confirmed until the remains were returned to Israel.

Update from the Times of Israel liveblog at 12:55 a.m. ET. No doubt the Jerusalem Post, Ynet, and Israel National News have more.

97 hostages abducted by Hamas remain in Gaza, including bodies of 33 confirmed dead
Following the recovery of six murdered Israeli hostages from Rafah overnight, 97 of the 251 hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7 remain in Gaza, including the bodies of at least 33 confirmed dead by the IDF.

Hamas released 105 civilians during a weeklong truce in late November, and four hostages were released before that.

Eight hostages have been rescued by troops alive, and the bodies of 37 hostages have also been recovered, including three mistakenly killed by the military as they tried to escape their captors.

Hamas is also holding two Israeli civilians who entered the Strip in 2014 and 2015, as well as the bodies of two IDF soldiers who were killed in 2014.

IDF spokesperson says hostages ‘brutally murdered’ shortly before troops arrived
IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says the six hostages recovered from southern Gaza’s Rafah were “brutally murdered” by Hamas shortly before troops arrived.

“According to an initial assessment… they were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists a short while before we reached them. They were abducted alive on the morning of October 7 by the Hamas terror group. Their bodies were found during the fighting in Rafah, in a tunnel, about a kilometer away from the tunnel from which we rescued Farhan al-Qadi a few days ago,” he says in a press conference.

“Since Farhan was found, troops were given an emphasis on operating carefully even more than usual, because of the understanding that additional hostages may be in the area. We did not have information on the exact location of the hostages,” Hagari says.

He also says troops battled Hamas terror operatives above ground in the area where the tunnel was located.

Harris says Hamas ‘must be eliminated’ after US citizen Goldberg-Polin found murdered in Gaza
Vice President Kamala Harris says in a statement that Hamas “must be eliminated” and cannot be allowed to control Gaza after the bodies of US citizen Hersch Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were found in Gaza.

Harris extends her condolences to Goldberg-Polin’s parents Jon and Rachel, and declares, “I have no higher priority than the safety of American citizens, wherever they are in the world. President Biden and I will never waver in our commitment to free the Americans and all those held hostage in Gaza.”

“Hamas is an evil terrorist organization. With these murders, Hamas has even more American blood on its hands. I strongly condemn Hamas’ continued brutality, and so must the entire world. From its massacre of 1,200 people to sexual violence, taking of hostages, and these murders, Hamas’ depravity is evident and horrifying,” she says.

IDF announces bodies of 6 hostages murdered by Hamas found in Rafah tunnel
Overnight, the IDF recovered the bodies of six Israeli hostages from a Hamas tunnel in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, who according to the military were murdered by their captors not long before they were found.

The hostages are Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Ori Danino, 25, Alex Lubnov, 32, Carmel Gat, 40, and Almog Sarusi, 25.

According to the IDF, the six were murdered by Hamas a short while, possibly around a day or two, before troops found them.

The IDF did not have the exact location of the hostages but had indications of a general area where the six could be held. The military says it operated carefully in the area, due to the possibility that hostages were being held there.

Troops began to search a tunnel complex yesterday until they found the hostages dead in the afternoon. Overnight their bodies were extracted from Gaza and brought to Israel for identification.

The IDF says there were no clashes with Hamas terrorists inside the tunnel, and the guards who likely murdered the six fled the area.

The tunnel in which the slain hostages were found, in Rafah, is about a kilometer away from where soldiers found hostage Farhan al-Qadi earlier this week.

Goldberg-Polin, Yerushalmi, Danino, Lubnov, and Sarusi were abducted from the Nova music festival near Kibbutz Re’im by Hamas terrorists on October 7, while Gat was taken from Kibbutz Be’eri.

Jewish students injured in heinous attack by bottle-wielding assailant wearing Palestinian scarf on Pitt campus
[NYPost] Two Jewish students were attacked on the University of Pittsburgh campus late Friday by a man wearing a Paleostinian scarf and wielding a bottle.

Campus police arrested Jarrett Buba, 52, in the assault, the Pittsburgh Post Gazette reported. University officials said he had no known affiliation with the school.

Buba, who lives in the Oakland neighborhood where the school is located and was wearing a keffiyeh, the checkered scarf associated with Paleostinians, had been sitting at a table across a main street from where the students were walking on the final day of the first week of classes.

The students, who were both wearing yarmulkes, told cops they made eye contact with Buba but kept walking.

He then ran across the street and attacked them from behind about 6 p.m., the criminal complaint said, according to the Post Gazette.

They fought back, bringing Buba to the ground while they waited for campus cops to arrive.

Surveillance footage backs up the students’ account, the report said. The students, who were not named, were maimed in the "appalling" attack, which occurred near the university’s famed Cathedral of Learning, according to a university statement released Friday.

The police report said one of the students had cuts on his face and the other was bleeding from cuts on his neck, the Post Gazette said. One was taken to a local hospital and later released.

"While there is not believed to be any ongoing threat to the public stemming from this incident, we recognize that incidents like these are unsettling to our Pitt community," the statement read.

The area where the attack took place was the scene of pro-Paleostinian protests during spring semester calling for the university to divest from Israel in response to the war in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Buba was hit with two counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and harassment, among other charges, the Post Gazette reported. Agents from the FBI’s Pittsburgh field office are looking at the attack as a possible hate crime

Pitt leaders reached out to the Hillel University Center and Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh in the wake of the attack, which took place less than two miles from the Tree of Life Synagogue, where in 2018, mass shooter Robert Bowers killed 11 in the deadliest antisemitic attack in US history.

Counseling services were made available to the university community, and officials said there was no threat to the public.

"To be clear: Neither acts of violence nor antisemitism will be tolerated," the statement read. "Local and federal partners are supporting Pitt Police in this ongoing investigation."
One of the students tackled Buba and detained him until officers arrived, the complaint said.

Buba was wearing a red sweatshirt and a keffiyeh, a garment commonly associated with support for Palestine, the complaint said.

Officers arrested Buba after a brief struggle, the complaint said. Police said Buba also gave authorities a series of false names before properly identifying himself.
Update from the Jewish Chronicle at 7:45 a.m. ET:
Buba was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, two misdemeanor accounts of simple assault and reckless endangerment, TribLive reported. He also faces charges of resisting arrest and two summary charges of harassment.

The FBI’s Pittsburgh office also is investigating the possibility charging Buba with a hate crime. He was denied bail and is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.

Gingrich & Walker: Kamala Harris' abandoned astronauts should already be back on Earth
[FoxNews] This debacle has brought long overdue attention to Boeing’s and NASA’s incompetence. However, this failure also belongs to VP Kamala Harris.

On June 5, astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams went to the International Space Station for an eight-day visit. They now face an eight-month stay.

This debacle has brought long overdue attention to Boeing’s and NASA’s incompetence.

However, this failure also belongs to Vice President Kamala Harris. She is the Chair of the National Space Council. For her entire vice presidency, Harris has done the bare minimum required by law as chair of the council and has been totally uninvolved in the policy process.

President Joe Biden clearly articulated the importance of Vice President Harris’s job as chairwoman in a Dec. 1, 2021, executive order.

"The Chair shall serve as The President’s principal advisor on national space policy and strategy."

So, the leader of the National Space Council has a major opportunity to develop America’s future in space. Vice President Harris has simply pissed passed on that opportunity.

[IsraelTimes] Columbia’s Students for Justice in Palestine and NYU’s People’s Solidarity Coalition likely violated Meta’s new rules, which ban use of word ‘Zionist’ to promote antisemitism.

In February, Within Our Lifetime, the prominent hardline anti-Israel group, announced that it was banned from Instagram. A spokesperson for Meta told the New York Jewish Week at the time that the group’s accounts had been removed because they violated the platform’s community guidelines, including its “Dangerous Organizations & Individuals policy.”

This week, the NYU administration similarly issued new hate speech guidelines saying that the use of “Zionists” is banned if employed to target Jews or Israelis.

US universities, Jewish groups hope to change campus climate as school year begins
[IsraelTimes] With new initiatives including broader rules around demonstrations and even full-time surveillance, institutions seek to rein in anti-Israel protesters, who vow not to ease up.

Colleges, caught flat-footed by a groundswell of protests last year that frequently created a hostile climate for Jewish students, are trying to get ahead of the problem this fall. Meanwhile, various Jewish groups, including those with a focus on college students, are announcing initiatives of their own after venting their frustrations with what they say is inadequate action by the colleges.

Facing lawsuits, Congressional hearings, donor pressure, Title VI complaints and the occasional high-profile resignation of a campus president, many schools are still improvising what exactly protecting Jewish students will look like this year. Universities have issued revised policies around the acceptable time, place and manner of student protests.

Some, such as Indiana University and the University of Denver, have banned all tents, late-night rallies and writing on campus walls. George Washington University preemptively suspended student groups, including the anti-Zionist Jewish Voice for Peace, before classes began. Others, such as the small liberal arts school Ohio Wesleyan University, are trying the approach that gained renown for Dartmouth College last year by launching new civic dialogue initiatives.

Yet the campus protest movement, like the Israel-Hamas war itself, is still casting a long shadow. New-student orientations at other schools this summer, including the University of New Mexico and the University of Michigan, have also been disrupted by anti-Israel activists. Young Democratic Socialists of America, which has chapters on more than 100 campuses, is encouraging a “national student strike for Palestine.”

And this week the American Association of University Professors, a major national faculty organization, changed its longstanding policy discouraging boycotts to say they can now be “legitimate tactical responses” — clearing the way for faculty to argue in favor of boycotting Israeli universities, a longtime rallying cry of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement. Pro-Palestinian faculty encouraged or even participated in many of the most disruptive student protests last year.

Jewish groups are taking more aggressive action for students, without waiting for the schools to improve their policies. The Community Security Service, saying it had heard from Jewish students who “fear for their life,” recently announced new self-defense training for students.

Hillel International and the Secure Community Network, which organizes security for Jewish spaces, are partnering on “Operation SecureOurCampuses,” their own training initiative for Jewish students and staff. The new venture includes what the groups describe as “full-time intelligence analysts to monitor campus security incidents and provide real-time support.” Some individual Hillels are also taking their own steps: Penn State University’s is reinstating a full-time Israel educator to its staff.

[NYPost] The protesters, there to demand that the school divest from all companies that support Israel, identified themselves as members of the TAHRIR Coalition, whose name is an acronym for “Transparency, Accountability, Humanity, Reparations, Investment, and Resistance.”

The school’s club fair was disrupted almost immediately by a sit-in of a few dozen anti-Israel demonstrators chanting “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” — a slogan that implies the state of Israel must be eliminated. The anti-Israel protestors, who did not have a permit to demonstrate, passed out fliers listing their demands that the school divest from “Israeli apartheid and genocide,” establish a “People’s Audit,” boycott Israeli academic institutions, and abolish campus policing.

A group of pro-Israel counter-protesters also quickly gathered, holding American and Israeli flags.

Last spring, anti-Israel activists at U-Michigan running under the banner of the “Shut It Down” party won control of the student government. Since then, they’ve withheld funding from clubs on campus, demanding that the University divest from companies that support Israel.

In a March press release, university regents made clear they won’t buckle under political pressure to divest.

New battery has double the power and fraction of the dangerous chemicals
This reads like a press release, but beyond that I’m not qualified to judge — except that a breakthrough in battery capacity would be a very good thing.
[FoxNews] In our tech-driven world, batteries are the unsung heroes powering everything from your smartphone to electric cars. But here's the catch: Traditional battery manufacturing can be pretty harsh on the environment and our health due to those problematic "forever chemicals" called PFAS.

These chemicals sneak into countless everyday products and have even made their way into the bloodstream of most Americans, bringing along a host of health concerns.

That's where Ateios Systems comes in. Based in Newberry, Indiana, this innovative company is shaking things up by developing a new way to make batteries without these harmful substances.

A NEW ERA IN BATTERY MANUFACTURING
Ateios Systems has developed an innovative electrode manufacturing process that not only removes forever chemicals but also offers a 20% reduction in costs, a 50% increase in energy density and an 82% decrease in energy consumption during production. This breakthrough is not just about creating a cleaner battery; it's about making batteries more efficient and cost-effective, which is crucial as the global battery market continues to grow rapidly.

Foreign-backed mercenaries abduct prominent sheikh in Shabwah
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] Gunmen of the UAE-funded ''Al-Amaliqa'' factions kidnapped on Saturday one of the most prominent religious sheikhs in the Bayhan district of Shabwah province, which is under the control of the factions.

The sources added that the faction leaders accused Sheikh Jabr of teaching people magic in order to enchant one of the Salafist sheikhs loyal to them called ''Waddah al-Mathah.
Local sources in the district said, ''Armed men on board six military vehicles belonging to the al-Amaliqa factions stormed the house of Sheikh Abdulqadir Ateq Jabr and kidnapped him from his family after surrounding his house.'' Sheikh Khabar was threatened with death and forced to write his last will to his sons, with weapons over his head.

The sources added that the faction leaders accused Sheikh Jabr of teaching people magic in order to enchant one of the Salafist sheikhs loyal to them called ''Waddah al-Mathah.''

Some local notables in Bayhan intervened and pressed on the al-Amaliqa leaders to release Sheikh Jabr, according to the sources.

Major Driver Behind COVID and Long COVID Identified in Study
[Epoch Times] Researchers at the University of California San Francisco have identified fibrin, a natural protein involved in blood clotting, as a major driver of the COVID-19 disease, according to a new study.
Fibrin is a fibrous protein which, together with platelets, forms a hemostatic plug or clot over a wound site.
Fibrin binds to proteins from the SARS-CoV-2 virus to form blood clots that are difficult to break down, the authors found. This clotting then drives the various inflammatory and neurological symptoms seen in COVID-19 and long COVID, the researchers found.

Previous studies have theorized that blood clotting is a consequence of inflammation. However, the new Nature study, published on Wednesday, shows the reverse: that the clotting comes first.

"Our study is the first to report causality for fibrin as the root of inflammation and brain pathology after COVID infection," Katerina Akassoglou, senior author and professor of neurology at UCSF, told The Epoch Times on email.

By blocking fibrin using a novel antibody, the researchers were able to reduce clotting and neurological symptoms, offering a new potential therapeutic for patients.

Furthermore, the new study offers an explanation for the increase in cancers following COVID-19 infections. The researchers found that the abnormal clotting between COVID-19 spike proteins and fibrins reduces cancer-fighting immune cells known as natural killer (NK) cells.

#3  The Nature article (I've read it, understood about half) does not mention the vaccines at all. The clotting effect is due to an affinity of the natural C-19 spike protein with certain sites on fibrinogen / fibrin protein molecules (the precursor and major component of blood clots, respectively). What it does not say - and they may not know at this stage - is whether the same effect can occur with a fragmentary spike protein, as might occur from a killed virus vaccine, or synthesized in vivo as a result of mRNA injection. Given the obviousness of the question, I'd suspect more than one lab is trying to figure it, but they aren't going to say a thing until the have evidence one way or another.

#4  Clarification to the above: The paper does mention vaccines, in the summary, to dismiss any similar effect. That is not backed up with any actual lab testing.

Massive explosions reported in Aden
[HODHODYEMENNEWS] The city of Aden experienced violent mostly peaceful explosions on Friday evening, causing massive fires and widespread panic among residents, local sources reported.

According to local sources, the first explosion occurred at a gas filling station in the Hashid neighborhood on 90th Street in the Mansoura district.

This was followed by a more powerful explosion of a nearby gas tanker, resulting in a large fireball.

The initial explosion has resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to 13 others. Several vehicles were burned at the site.

The sources explained that the delay of fire trucks to control the fire helped in the expansion of the fire, which threatens to explode the main tank of the station and cause a disaster for the residents.

Zelensky once again calls on the West to lift restrictions on missile strikes deep into Russia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, has made another appeal to Western countries asking them to lift the ban on long-range missile strikes against Russia.

He addressed his speech to the authorities of Germany, France, the USA and Britain.

“We need both long-range permits and your long-range missiles and shells,” Zelensky said on his Telegram channel.

The leader of the Ukrainian Nazis added that vital decisions cannot be postponed.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, the escalatory course of the US authorities is becoming increasingly provocative, stated the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

According to her, the White House is preparing to completely untie Zelensky's hands to use virtually any type of American weapons, including deep into Russian territory.

The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, called on EU countries to completely lift restrictions on strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian territory.

Kiev and the European Union have asked US President Joe Biden to allow Ukrainian troops to strike all of Russia.

Earlier, Zelensky said that he had received a message from the United States about the possibility of using Western weapons supplied to Ukraine to strike Russian territory. In addition, he said that it was only a matter of time before the Ukrainian Armed Forces received permission from the West to fire at Russia with any weapons.

Goldman Sachs will reportedly fire more than 1,300 employees
[NYPOST] David Solomon is sharpening the axe again.

The Goldman Sachs CEO will slash more than 1,300 jobs as part of the bank's ongoing review to cull poor performers, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday

Goldman's cuts will affect between 3% and 4% of Goldman's 45,000-strong workforce, the Journal added, citing people familiar with the matter. The cuts are part of the bank's annual performance reviews that cull those believed to have performed poorly.

The layoffs have already started and will continue through the fall, according to the Journal, under the bank's annual review process known as ''strategic resource assessment.''

''Our annual talent reviews are normal, standard, and customary, but otherwise unremarkable,'' Tony Fratto, a Goldman front man, told the newspaper.

He added that headcount would be higher at the end of 2024, compared to the end of last year.

The bank regularly seeks to cut back on between 2% and 7% of its workforce each year based on various performance factors, market conditions and its financial outlook.

#1

It does raise the other question.
How many were "special" social hires to check off the diversity, equity and inclusion campaign block, instead of just hiring the best no matter what?

ALSO NOTE
The HR departments in corporate America have admitted DEI causes higher than normal attrition rates, with expenses adding up to 150% of an employee’s annual salary, reduce productivity and cause R.O.I. issues

End Result
It cost Goldman-Sachs literally $1 Billion in profits, before it too dumped DEI.

$1 Billion, which relates to what GS charged customers for services over that period of time.

Tim Walz's Brother: He's ‘Not the Type of Character You Want Making Decisions About Your Future'
[Breitbart] In a Facebook post from March 2023, Jeff Walz, one of the Minnesota governor’s siblings, responded to comments from people telling him to talk to his brother and to “help MAGA.”

“We’ve just become a third-world banana republic,” Jeff Walz wrote in his post at the time.

In another comment, a person told him to "Help MAGA" and "Get on stage with President Trump and endorse him."

"Help save this country," the person added.

"I’ve thought hard about doing something like that," Jeff Walz responded. "I’m torn between that and just keeping my family out of it. The stories I could tell. Not the type of character you want making decisions about your future."

Dunno, but my "Spidey Sense" tells me the stories he could tell may be available to the highest bidder.

Tim Walz, Snitch [Updated]

One of Tim Walz’s themes in his speech in Philadelphia today was “Mind your own damn business.” This is beyond ironic. There is no aspect your life, or your children’s lives, that Walz does not consider to be his business. He advises his fellow Democrats not to shy away from socialism, which is just being “neighborly.” Right. God preserve us from neighbors like that.

Which brings us to the Walz Snitch Line. At the beginning of the covid epidemic, Walz issued an executive order that prohibited any resident of Minnesota from leaving his or her house, except as permitted by him. It was perhaps the most overtly fascist measure in America’s history. Walz then set up a snitch line, so that Minnesotans could phone in, anonymously, and rat out their neighbors if they violated Walz’s “stay at home” order:

Israeli strike on Gaza aid convoy kills four Palestinians, says US group
Responding to this story from yesterday, the NGO is still trying to pretend to hold the moral high ground.
[GEOTV] An Israeli air strike on an aid convoy carrying food and fuel to a Gaza hospital killed four Palestinians on Thursday, US-based aid group said as Israel claimed they were "armed assailants," which the group American Near East Refugee Aid (Anera) denied.

The four Palestinians were in the lead vehicle of an Anera aid convoy bound for the Emirati Red Crescent Hospital in Rafah in southern Gaza, the aid group said in a statement on Friday.

Soon after the convoy left the Israel-controlled Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, four Palestinians from the community "took control of the leading vehicle, citing concern that the route was unsafe and at risk of being looted," Anera said.

"Israeli authorities allege that the lead car was carrying numerous weapons. Every initial report from those at the scene indicate that no weapons were present," the organisation said.

Transgender Activists Lose Ground as Public Protects Sex Distinctions
[Breitbart] A federal appeals court rejected an appeal by pro-transgender advocates, allowing Alabama to keep protecting children and youths from transgender advocates.

The good news was matched by other events in Texas, Virginia, and Missouri where judges and university officials rejected demands from transgender advocates seeking to minimize the public’s recognition of the two male and female sexes.

The United States 11th Circuit Court of Appeals released a divided 173-page decision in which ten out of 11 judges took part, according to the Alabama Reflector. In the decision from the court, there were five dissenting opinions and a concurrence written by U.S. Circuit Judge Barbara Lagoa.

In May 2022, an Alabama law went into effect, which made it a felony to conduct transgender surgeries on minors or to offer minors puberty blockers or hormone treatments.

“Judge Rosenbaum’s dissent characterizes the panel opinion as holding that parents do not have a constitutional right to access ‘life-saving medical care’ for their children. Rosenbaum Dis. Op. at 4; see also Jordan Dis. Op. at 22 (describing the asserted right as ‘the right of parents to obtain medically-approved treatment for their children’),” Lagoa wrote in her concurrence. “But frankly, whether puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones qualify as ‘life-saving’ treatment-or even ‘medical care’-is a policy question informed by scientific, philosophical, and moral considerations. Neither an unelected district judge nor unelected circuit judges should resolve that debate for the State of Alabama.”

This comes after a three-judge panel issued a decision in August 2023 that reversed a ruling from a federal district court that blocked Alabama’s ban from being enforced.

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall wrote in a post on X that the court upholding Alabama’s ban on transgender surgeries and gender-affirming care for minors was a “big win to protect children” in the state.

“Alabama Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act continues to be enforced!” Marshall wrote. “This is a big win to protect children from these untested and life-altering chemical and surgical procedures.”

In her dissenting opinion, Judge Robin Rosenbaum wrote that “the panel opinion’s reasoning strip every parent in this Circuit off their fundamental rights” to get medical treatments for their children.

Judges Jill Pryor and Adalberto Jordan also joined Rosenbaum’s dissenting opinion.

“If ever a case warranted en banc review, this is it,” Rosenbaum wrote. “The panel opinion’s reasoning strips every parent in this Circuit of their fundamental right to direct that their children receive any medical treatment (no matter how well-established and medically endorsed)-except for those medical treatments in existence as of 1868. Yes, 1868-before modern medicine. So in the states of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia, blistering, blood-letting, and leeches are in, but antibiotics, antivirals, and organ transplants are out.”

The decision from the federal appeals court comes as Sweet Briar College, a liberal arts college in Virginia announced that it would only be accepting biological women, according to the Washington Times.

“An applicant is qualified for admission if she confirms that her sex assigned at birth is female and that she consistently lives and identifies as a woman,” the college’s website says.

Missouri, along with 23 other states recently filed a brief with the United States Supreme Court in support of North Carolina and West Virginia seeking an appeal regarding a decision from the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals requiring taxpayer-funded healthcare insurance plans to “cover” medical treatments for transgender individuals, according to the Carolina Journal.

Texas recently established a new policy that prevents transgender drivers from being able to change the sex listed on the license.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) issued a statement stating that, “not having an accurate driver’s license jeopardizes trans people’s health and safety,” due to the potential of them experiencing discrimination or harassment, according to KHOU 11 News.

Similar policies have been enacted in states such as Florida, Kansas, and Montana, according to Kut News.

“In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is...in some small way to become evil oneself. One's standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

Palestinians in Jenin use RPGs for first time during battles with Israeli forces - IRNA English
[IRNA] Paleostinian resistance fighters based in the occupied West Bank are using rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) for the first time during their battles with Israeli occupation forces.

Paleostinian news agencies, citing Israeli media, reported on Saturday that these weapons are being used by resistance fighters in Jenin, a city in the northern West Bank that has been the scene of fierce festivities in recent days.

Jenin has been a flashpoint area for months now. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
tensions have been escalating since Wednesday (August 28) when Israeli forces launched a large-scale military operation that has also targeted other parts of the West Bank, including the city of Nablus.

Nearly two dozen Paleostinians have been killed since then, most of them in Jenin.

Israeli media have described the ongoing operation in the West Bank as the biggest by the regime in the occupied Paleostinian territories over the past 22 years.

In the meantime, the Central Command of the Israel Occupation Forces, which is responsible for the units and brigades located in the West Bank, al-Quds, the Sharon, Gush Dan and the Shephelah, has warned that the situation in the West Bank is about to explode.

The Central Command has also warned that the expansion of the conflict in the West Bank would impose extra burden on Israeli forces.

The warning comes as the Israeli regime is continuing its war in the besieged Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks.
Strip where nearly 40,700 Paleostinians have been killed since the start of the war in early October 2023.

At least 17 Texas National Guard have died securing the border -- with one drowning trying to save migrants
[NYPOST] At least 17 Texas National Guard members have died securing the US southern border — with one drowning in the Rio Grande while trying to save migrants colonists.

The corpse count was revealed during an Aug. 20 meeting of Texas' state House Committee on Defense and Veterans' Affairs.

Shelia Bailey Taylor, the Texas Military Department director of state administration, was discussing a new state law that provides $500,000 to families of fallen service members deployed under Gov. Greg Abbott
... governor of Texas. Abbott is a Republican. His 2014 Dem opponent, state senatrix Wendy Davis, thought the absolute, most pressing, most important issue facing the state was abortion. Abbott beat the pantyhose off her. His 2018 opponent, Lupe Valdez didn't dwell too heavily on abortion, but she lost too...
's Operation Lone Star border mission.

The legislation was inspired by the death of Guardsman Bishop Evans, who drowned in April 2022 after jumping into the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass and saving a pair of migrants colonists who were trying to enter the country illegally.

Many of the deaths of other Guard members' assigned to the border were not directly related to the migrant mission.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Shutters More than One Million Restaurants as Economy Withers
[Breitbart] Canguanju, a Chinese catering industry news service, reported that more than one million restaurants have closed since the beginning of 2024, as the flagging economy makes Chinese consumers more interested in cheap takeout meals than even the most budget-friendly dining room experiences.

Radio Free Asia (RFA) pored over Canguanju’s data on Thursday and noted that times have been especially tough for noodle and dumpling shops, which surged in popularity when the Chinese economy was booming but withered just as quickly when consumers decided it was cheaper to have their noodles and dumplings at home.

Of particular note is the sad state of Din Tai Fung, a Taiwan-based dumpling chain that is closing nearly half of its 30 stores in China.

Din Tai Fung was seen as a bellwether of expanding middle-class prosperity in China, as the restaurant served upscale gourmet versions of dishes that could be purchased more cheaply from takeout joints or made at home, somewhat like gourmet hamburger restaurants in the United States.

Although it is based in Taiwan, Din Tai Fung also has a curious political dimension in China because dumplings are seen as a delicacy that China developed and exported to the Taiwanese after the great schism between the island and mainland. Taiwan cooking top-shelf dumplings and selling them successfully in China was almost a metaphor for the prodigal Taiwanese returning to China. The collapse of the Taiwanese chain is, therefore, both an economic and political embarrassment to the Chinese Communist Party.

Noodle shops were, likewise, a barometer of business-class success, catering to ambitious professionals on the go. Chinese commentators told RFA with some amusement that noodle shops became popular for business meetings, including the kind where bribe money changed hands under the table, but now they are shutting down by the thousands. Eating out is becoming such an ostentatious luxury that civil servants are afraid to do it, lest they attract the attention of anti-corruption investigators.

“Officials aren’t eating out or spending money anymore, which is a major blow to China’s high-end restaurants,” commentator Chen Pokong observed.

The bottom line was catering profits falling by an amazing 88.8 percent in the first half of 2024, while food delivery profits increased by 49.7 percent. Delivery drivers anecdotally reported that more of their customers were the kind of people who used to prefer eating out — and more of the drivers, themselves, were people who used to have white-collar jobs.

'Uncommitted' Nightmare Haunts Harris as CNN Interview Further Fractures Base
Long and detailed. Here are the opening paragraphs:
[Breitbart] Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris
So Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong
is facing a severe crisis with the pro-Paleostinian wing of her party after she doubled down on her and President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. We get to suffer the consequences...
’s Israel policies in her CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
interview Thursday.

CNN’s Dana Bash pressed Harris on arms policy toward Israel on Thursday night. After Harris initially skirted a direct question about potentially withholding "some" arms to Israel, as the pro-Paleostinian Uncommitted movement has been demanding for seven months, Bash did not let her off the hook. Following up on the same question, she drew a "No" from Harris when she asked if there would be any "change in policy in terms of arms and so forth" towards Israel, igniting a frenzy of condemnation from prominent pro-Paleostinian figures, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib
...the very first ever Paleostinian-American ever sworn into Congress in 2019. She is a member of The Squad and consistently votes against the U.S. national interest. She's a Dem, naturally, from a safe district you wouldn't want to live in (Michigan's 12th congressional district). She wants the country to be kinda like Gaza only without any Jews for neighbors...
(D-MI).

The response and the fallout underscore and worsen a massive problem for Harris, who has a fractured base heading into the home stretch of the election. These voters, more than half a million of whom protested the Biden-Harris administration with "uncommitted" votes in the Democratic primary, have threatened and continue to threaten to stay home in November, barring a radical change in policy or a cease-fire. The movement includes Arab Americans, Moslems, young voters, and far-left progressives.

Making the problem so severe for Harris is that the movement began in the ever-critical swing state of Michigan and spread to other key swing states like Wisconsin, places where the presidency is expected to be decided by a slim margin. Harris is on shaky ground, considering she still has not brought home her base at a point in the cycle where presidential candidates typically are focused on courting moderates.

Another aspect to contemplate is that if Harris does change course on this position, she runs the risk of looking that much more insincere to undecided voters on crucial issues. She has already waffled on a number of critical policy positions, including fracking, and polling shows the public views former President Donald Trump
...His ancestors didn't own any slaves...
as the more genuine candidate by a wide margin. Regardless, the issue has festered so long that winning these voters back with words alone appears impossible. At this point, she needs a concrete stoppage in arms and a ceasefire, which are not on the horizon.

#1  The Dem candidate is supposed to have the opportunity to pander to the whacko base in the primaries before modifying all their positions to satisfy the Dem middle of the roaders after the convention. They have stood the process on its head and the base is upset. She is trying to signal to them that her core crazy values remain intact. Maybe she can blink a message to them in Morse code in her next scripted interview. Pulling that off would require a lot of sobriety.

NY imam tells Columbia students how to ''take out'' pro-Israel professor
[NYPOST] An upstate imam urged student activists to ''take out'' an outspoken, pro-Israel Columbia University professor who's returning to the embattled Ivy this fall after a year of antisemitic hate.

Vassar-educated, Utica-based imam Tom Facchine made the plea about business school professor Shai Davidai during an Aug. 20 webinar called ''Islamic Political Activism'' with various Columbia student groups which promoted and broadcast it.

''That Shai Davidai guy: How do we get him in trouble? How do we create a situation in which he's in jeopardy?'' Facchine, 35, asked. ''If you're able to take out somebody like that and make an example, that might shut up a hundred more.''

The Jersey-born Facchine left Christianity to become atheist, found Marx in college and converted to Islam in 2010.

Davidai alerted Columbia honchos about the imam's screed and the university launched a probe using outside security experts who concluded that the rhetoric ''did not create conditions that require enhanced security measures,'' according to an email from VP of public safety Gerald Lewis to Davidai and shared with The Post.

Countries where Elon Musk's X social network is banned
[GEOTV] With its ban of X, which went into effect on Saturday, Brazil joins a small club of countries to have taken similar measures against the social network, most of them run by authoritarian regimes.

Beyond permanent bans, some nations have temporarily restricted access to X, formerly Twitter, which has often been used by political dissidents to communicate.

These have included Egypt in 2011 during the Arab Spring uprisings, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
in 2014 and 2023, and Uzbekistan around that country's 2021 presidential election.

Here is a list of some of the others:

China

Beijing banned Twitter in June 2009 — before it secured the prominent place it enjoyed in Western media and politics for much of the 2010s.

The block came two days before the 20-year anniversary of the government's crushing of pro-democracy demonstrations in the capital's Tiananmen Square.

Since then, many Chinese people have turned to home-grown alternatives such as "Weibo" and "WeChat".

Iran

Twitter was also blocked by Tehran in 2009, as a wave of demonstrations broke out following a contested June presidential election.

The network has nevertheless been used since then to pass information to the outside world about dissident movements, including the demonstrations against Iran's repression of women's rights since late 2022.

Turkmenistan

Isolated Central Asian country Turkmenistan blocked Twitter in the early 2010s alongside many other foreign online services and websites.

Authorities in Ashgabat surveil closely citizens' usage of the internet, provided through state-run monopoly operator TurkmenTelecom.

North Korea
...hereditary Communist monarchy distinguished by its truculence and periodic acts of violence. Distinguishing features include Songun (Army First) policy, which involves feeding the army before anyone but the Dear Leadership, and Juche, which is Kim Jong Il's personal interpretation of Marxism-Leninism, which he told everybody was brilliant. In 1950 the industrialized North invaded agrarian South Korea. Twenty-one countries of the United Nations eventually contributed to the UN force opposing the invasion, with the United States providing around 90% of the military personnel. Seventy years later the economic results are in and it doesn't look good for Juche...
Pyongyang opened its own Twitter account in 2010 in a bid to woo foreigners interested in the country.

But the application has been blocked along with Facebook, Youtube and gambling and pornography websites since April 2016.

Internet access beyond a few government websites is under tight government watch in the regime, with access restricted to a few high-ranking officials.

Myanmar

X has been blocked since February 2021 in Myanmar, when authorities took aim at the app for its use by opponents of the military coup that overthrew Aung San Suu Kyi's civilian government.

Since then, the junta has kept a tight grip on internet access in the country.

Russia

Access to Twitter was throttled from 2021 by Moscow, which complained the site was allowing users to spread "illegal content".

A formal ban came in March 2022, just after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Many Russian users continue to connect to X via VPN services that allow them to get around the block.

Pakistain

X has been banned since parliamentary polls in February this year. Pakistain's government says the block is for security reasons.

Venezuela

Paleo death toll from Israeli raid in West Bank hits 20 26 on third day of operation
[GEOTV] The death toll from a three-day Israeli raid on the occupied West Bank rose to 20 on Friday, Israel and the Palestinian health ministry said, while violence raged on in the Gaza Strip.

Israel army says two Palestinians killed attempting attacks in West Bank
[GEOTV] The Israeli army said on Saturday two Palestinians were killed overnight while allegedly preparing to carry out bombings in the occupied West Bank, where an Israeli operation entered a fourth day.

The Palestinian fighter group Hamas issued a statement hailing a "heroic operation" in the south of the West Bank, saying it came at "a sensitive time" with Israeli forces pressing on with raids in the north of the territory.

The view from Israel:
Soldier killed in fierce clashes in Jenin as IDF presses major West Bank operation
[IsraelTimes] Locals say they do not have access to water and electricity; Israel says at least 26 gunmen killed during operation; Palestinian terror groups have claimed 13 as their own

An Israeli soldier was killed and three others were maimed during fierce festivities with Hamas
..one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
button men in the West Bank city of Jenin on Saturday morning, the Israel Defense Forces said.

The IDF has been carrying out a major raid in the northern West Bank since early Wednesday. The action was now largely focusing on the Jenin area, after raids in Tulkarem and the Far’a camp near Tubas concluded.

The slain soldier was named as Staff Sgt. Elkana Navon, 20, a squad commander in the Bislamach Brigade’s 906th Battalion, from Petah Tikva.

According to an initial IDF probe, troops carrying out a raid in Jenin encountered two button men, considered to be prominent members of the Hamas terror group. The soldiers exchange fire with the two terror operatives from close range, killing both of them.

Four soldiers were hit by the button men, including Navon who later died. One of the maimed troops, an officer, was listed at death's door.

During the raid on the Jenin refugee camp on Saturday, the IDF said troops neutralized dozens of bombs that were planted along the roads.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi held an assessment in Jenin on Saturday amid the operation. He was joined by the head of the Central Command, Maj. Gen. Avi Bluth, the commander of the West Bank division, Brig. Gen. Yaki Dolf, and the commander of the Menashe Regional Brigade, Col. Ayub Kayuf.

"We are dismantling the terrorism that comes from the refugee camps in Judea and Samaria," Halevi was quoted by the IDF as saying.

"We are cut off from the world," Taher al-Saadi, a Jenin resident, told AFP.

"The water is cut off. The electricity is cut off, the sewage system is no longer working. All the infrastructure is destroyed, we no longer have any services that work.

"The bakeries are at a standstill. We can’t find milk for the children."
"Our ammo is running low" he wailed
"I think it’s the worst day since the start of the raid," Wisam Bakr, director of Jenin Government Hospital, told AFP of the IDF’s operations on Saturday. "We hear from time to time festivities and sometimes there is big bombing."

"It’s very hard, for the children and for everyone. We are afraid, we are terrified, look at all the damage," Jenin resident Faiza Abu Jaafar told AFP as she stood amid piles of rubble. "We are living in dark days."

Jenin Governor Kamal Abu al-Rub told AFP that he does not know exactly what is happening inside the camp, where the latest fighting appeared to be concentrated.

"The Israelis are besieging the hospitals and cutting off the city from the refugee camp, which has become a military zone with no access," he alleged.

"Neither the civil defense, nor the ambulances, nor the journalists can go and see what is happening there."

Israel has long said the camp is a hotbed of terror activity, and has moved in to make arrests and dismantle terror infrastructure from time to time.

The IDF has denied cutting off access to hospitals, saying it has positioned its forces to prevent turbans from gathering in them while allowing ambulances to come and go.

So far amid the major operation launched earlier this week, the IDF says troops have killed at least 26 button men and detained another 30 wanted Paleostinians. The terror groups Hamas and Paleostinian Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
have claimed 13 of those killed as their members, according to AFP.

The situation in the West Bank was further escalated late Friday night when two boom-mobiles went kaboom! in the Gush Etzion area south of Jerusalem. Three Israelis were hurt.

The IDF said it killed two turbans in the attacks. Hamas and PIJ praised the attacks but did not claim direct responsibility for them. Police said the bombings appeared to have been coordinated. Two Paleostinian turbans — Muhammad Marqa and Zahdi Afifa, from Hebron — were killed at the scene of the earth-shattering kaboom by Israeli forces, and six other Paleostinians were detained on suspicion of assisting them.

Since October 7, troops have arrested some 5,000 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,000 affiliated with Hamas.

According to the Paleostinian Authority health ministry, more than 670 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or turbans carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 27 people, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another Six members of the security forces were killed in festivities with terror operatives in the West Bank — including in Saturday’s incident.

Democrats Consider Replacing Kamala Harris With More Coherent Joe Biden
[Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following the Vice President's widely criticized pre-taped interview with CNN, reports circulated that the Democrats were considering replacing Kamala Harris with the more coherent Joe Biden.

Harris's joint interview with running mate Tim Walz was met with poor reviews, with top Democratic officials citing Harris' inability to provide cogent answers or communicate like a person as reasons why the party should turn to the clarity and coherence of Joe Biden.

"It may be time to consider a more mentally fit candidate," said one high-ranking Democrat who asked to remain anonymous. "We gave Kamala the good ol' college try, but she just does not display the same mental capacity and clear communication skills as Joe Biden. We need a candidate who can speak better and answer simple questions from time to time. It's obvious that Biden fits that bill better than Kamala."

Voters who were questioned following Harris's interview agreed. "A president should be able to speak clearly, like, with words that make sense and follow logically from the previous words to form a string of words to communicate an actual thought," said concerned citizen Dean Stark. "The Democratic Party cannot go into such a pivotal election with a candidate who can't even do that. The person we have running for president right now has trouble finishing sentences without making up words and spouting gibberish. That's why we need Joe Biden."

At publishing time, insiders revealed party leaders had already reached out to Biden's camp to gauge his interest in running for the office he already holds, though Biden was reportedly concerned that being president may take away from his full-time job vacationing on the beach.

Durov spoke about contacts with French counterintelligence, media reported
[Regnum] The founder of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov was in contact with French counterintelligence, including in the UAE, before his arrest at Paris's Le Bourget airport. He stated this during interrogation, the Libération newspaper reported on August 31 , citing a source.

Durov admitted that he met with representatives of the French General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) in Dubai. During the meeting, he made it clear that he considered it inappropriate to disclose “information constituting a military secret,” the publication notes, without explaining what he was talking about.

The businessman said that he had opened an official communication channel with the DGSI as part of the fight against terrorism, thanks to which several terrorist attacks had been prevented. After his arrest, Durov expressed his willingness to cooperate and provided French law enforcement with his mobile phone and access code.

When Durov was detained, the Elysee Palace was informed. The next day, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the situation with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan , the article says.

The newspaper notes that Durov had previously received French citizenship on Macron's orders. During his visit to Belgrade on August 29, Macron called the decision "completely justified."

According to TF1, Durov tried several times to obtain a French passport, but his requests were rejected due to not meeting the criteria.

As reported by Regnum News Agency , on August 24, Durov was detained at Paris's Le Bourget Airport, where he arrived from Azerbaijan. The businessman is accused of ten criminal offenses and faces up to 10 years in prison. After the hearing on August 28, Durov was transferred from custody to judicial supervision, ordered to post bail in the amount of 5 million euros, and banned from leaving France.

According to Durov, he flew to Paris for dinner with Macron. The French leader said that he did not know about Durov's arrival and did not intend to meet with him.

Russia considers Durov its citizen and is ready to provide him with all necessary assistance, said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, on August 29. He added that the cases against Durov should not become political persecution.

According to American journalist Tucker Carlson , Durov could not have been detained in France without the approval of the administration of US President Joe Biden .

MSNBC host rages after seeing polls showing Trump leading, calls Electoral College a 'suicide pact'
[FoxNews] MSNBC host Chris Hayes fumed over new poll results showing former President Trump as the favorite to win the Electoral College and therefore the presidency in November.

On his X account Friday, the "All in With Chris Hayes" anchor blasted recent poll results from famed pollster Nate Silver showing that Harris would most likely beat Trump in the national popular vote if the election were held today, though Trump would win the Electoral College.

"It’s clear as day the Electoral College is, to quote the great Justice Jackson a national suicide pact," Hayes posted.

The media pundit’s statement referenced a quote from Supreme Court Justice Robert Jackson, who wrote in 1949 that the Supreme Court "will convert the constitutional Bill of Rights into a suicide pact" if it doesn’t balance its "doctrine logic with a little practical wisdom."

Hayes seemed to be using the quote to suggest that the U.S.’s commitment to deciding presidential elections using the Electoral College system — which progressive Democratic politicians believe is obsolete — will needlessly result in the catastrophe of Trump returning to the White House.

The poll Hayes expressed frustration over was Silver’s latest election model, which was shared by finance journalist "Geiger Capital" on X on Thursday.

Describing the model, the X account stated, "Just like that... Trump — 52%. Harris — 47%. Trump is now back to being the favorite in Nate Silver’s election model. Harris is favored in the popular vote but an Electoral College underdog. It’s largely due to Pennsylvania (where she passed on Josh Shapiro for VP)."

Manifesto of ‘Tsar Anton'. How the Whites Made Kyiv Soviet in 1919
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Denis Davydov

[REGNUM] In 1919, Kyiv set a world record for the speed of change of power, which has not been broken by anyone to this day – not even by Bolivia, the acknowledged champion. And in this part of the city’s history, there were no other two consecutive days that left such a noticeable mark as August 30–31. Then the Ukrainian capital was abandoned by the Bolsheviks and taken by the White Guards.

In fact, the main trophy was seriously claimed by the army of the UPR united with the Galicians under the command of Symon Petliura, moving from the west, and they came to the finish line first. But the Volunteer Army (as part of the Armed Forces of the South of Russia of General Anton Denikin ) won, which was later called the "Kiev catastrophe" in Ukrainian patriotic historiography.

For the Russians of Kiev and the large number of officers who remained here during the turbulent events in distant Petrograd and the raging Civil War, the arrival of Denikin's men was a symbolic return to the old Russia and a hope for a peaceful life as before. For the "Ukrainians", as they were contemptuously called by the convinced monarchist, former State Duma deputy and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Kievlyanin" Vasily Shulgin, the situation was not so clear-cut.

The Galicians saw in the Russian army a chance to save themselves from Poland, which together with Romania and Czechoslovakia literally devoured the ZUNR in July. In fact, the routine entry of the Volunteer Army into Kyiv became possible thanks to the sluggishness of the "blue-coated" soldiers, who followed the order not to shoot under any circumstances. And for the "Nadneprians", who were actively pushing the issue of the independence of the UPR, any manifestations of the Russian were a pain in the neck.

This is particularly related to the key incident when, during a parade on Duma Square (now Independence Square), Petliurites from the Zaporizhian Corps, on the orders of Colonel Vladimir Salsky (incidentally, a former Russian intelligence officer assigned to the General Staff), tore down and threw under the horses’ hooves the tricolor that had just been raised on the building of the City Duma.

This was the spark in the powder keg. The first shot rang out when the front ranks of the Zaporozhian Cossacks were passing the corner of Kreshchatik and Instytutska Street. A bullet whistled past Salsky, then someone threw a hand grenade – and off it went.

"Shooting began, and the civilian population also shot at our units from rooftops and balconies. We lost 10 killed Cossacks there, and 7 horses were also killed. Great panic arose, and the Zaporizhzhya Group even left its cannons in the city," the journal of the Main Command (General Staff) of the Ukrainian Galician Army, published in 1974 in New York, reports about this event.

Throughout Kiev, volunteers began disarming and capturing Ukrainian units, capturing about three thousand people, including the headquarters of the III Corps, as well as all the heavy weapons and trophies left behind by the Bolsheviks. Shulgin described it this way: “The Petliurites ran ‘faster than a deer’ and concentrated at the train station…” where the headquarters was located, but they received no further orders.

As the main commander of the Petliura forces, the Galician general-chetar Antin Kravs rushed to his colleague, the commander of the VSYUR forces Nikolai Bredov, to settle the conflict. But he was demonstratively humiliated and received an unambiguous answer: "Kiev, the mother of Russian cities, has never been Ukrainian and never will be", and there can be no negotiations with the delegation of the UPR army, "... let them not come, they will be arrested and shot as traitors and bandits."

Finally, having signed the agreement to leave Kyiv, General Kravs left the building and discovered that his car had disappeared. In its place stood another, older car, "offered" by Denikin's men in exchange. Accompanied by his officers, Kravs left for the train station.

On the morning of September 1, 1919, Bredov's order was posted all over Kiev: "...from now on and forever Kiev returns to the united and indivisible Russia." The UPR, in fact, recognized the state of war with the Whites, and then Petliura concluded an agreement with the Poles, officially "giving" them Galicia. In September, the Galician Army was already part of the Armed Forces of South Russia, unable to find the strength to forgive such betrayal, and less than two months later it went over to the Bolsheviks.

MANIFESTO OF "TSAR ANTON"
The events of distant August, where everyone was against everyone, allow us to better understand why the Bolsheviks ultimately won. This is especially relevant in terms of the modern lamentations of the Ukrainian side about the innumerable forces of the "horde", the terrible occupation and the great sacrifice of the "heroes of Kruty": in the summer of 1919, the Reds generally had a great chance of losing everything.

Kyiv was a stopover for the Volunteer Army, the Whites were heading for Moscow and were confident of success. They had already successfully taken the strategically important Donbass and Kharkov, moving on to Kursk and Orel.

The chaos and disorder in the Red forces, which had grown due to independent “atamans” like Nestor Makhno, were countered by the troops of General Vladimir Mai-Maevsky with a crushing trump card: disciplined front-line units, effective maneuvers of infantry and armored trains on the railroad, and Cossacks on horseback.

It was in Donbass that tanks were first used.

Moreover, the Reds, who initially proposed a program that was very popular among the peasants, quickly undermined their credibility with food requisitioning, mobilization, and, if we are talking about Kyiv, with the insane renaming of streets and the purge of everything “old-regime.”

"Until recently, uprisings were a problem for the Directory, now they were shaking the rear of the Soviet forces. Rebel detachments were growing rapidly, there were no fewer republics in Ukraine than there were kingdoms in Palestine during the time of Joshua. The units sent against them could easily go over to the side of those they were sent to catch," writes the famous Ukrainian scientist and Kiev expert Stefan Mashkevich.

As for Petliura's power, it was so pitiful and ineffective that only the collapse of Soviet power under the blows of Denikin's forces gave the defeated UPR a last chance for at least some success. That is why he threw his army at Kyiv: both the Galicians from ZUNR and the nationalists from UPR controlled only small areas to the west of the capital, and tried to revive their movement.

At the same time, Petliura had no chance to reach an agreement with Denikin or the Reds from the very beginning: in both cases, the talk was about different projects for a united Russia. The White Guards agreed to communicate with the Galicians as an extraterritorial army, but they did not recognize the army of the UPR, which fought under the slogan of an independent Ukraine, in principle - despite numerous attempts by senior officials of the Entente countries, starting with Winston Churchill, to reconcile them.

At the same time, the Galicians were generally well-disposed towards Russia and did not rule out the possibility that Galicia (and, possibly, the Dnieper Ukraine) would become an autonomous region of the future Russian state. But the Petliurites were categorical opponents of Russia as such and did not want to quarrel with the main enemy of the Galicians - Poland, since objectively they would not have been able to endure a war on two fronts.

They didn't even take her to one front.

As early as the beginning of July, representatives of the UPR held negotiations with the White Guards in Bucharest with the participation of Marshal of France Philippe Pétain, proposing to postpone the decision on the structure of Russia and the independence of Ukraine, concentrating on the fight against Bolshevism.

But Denikin was adamant, quoting himself in Essays on the Russian Time of Troubles:

"I do not recognize an independent Ukraine. The Petliurites can either be neutral, in which case they must immediately surrender their weapons and go home; or they can join us, recognizing the slogans, one of which is broad autonomy for the outskirts. If the Petliurites do not fulfill these conditions, then they must be considered the same enemy as the Bolsheviks."

At the same time, having approached the borders of modern Ukraine in the summer of 1919, and Kiev in the second half of August, Anton Ivanovich suddenly felt the need to issue something like a programmatic statement. The appeal "To the population of Little Russia" was published on August 25 and is full of loud formulations like "regiments are approaching ancient Kiev, the "mother of Russian cities", in an unstoppable desire to return to the Russian people the unity they have lost."

In addition to condemning separatism “under the name of the “Ukrainian State,” “Tsar Anton,” as his contemporaries mockingly nicknamed him for this prank, assured everyone that the basis for organizing the regions of the South of Russia would be self-government and decentralization “with unfailing respect for the vital peculiarities of local life,” and that the Little Russian vernacular would be used in the education system and the press.

Leaflets with the text of the appeal were posted on the streets of Kyiv on August 31, the day the White Army entered Kyiv, that is, they did not reach their target audience - the city's residents as a whole did not understand such a move.

KYIV IS A STRANGER TO EVERYONE
The quantitative advantage in Kyiv was always on the side of the Russian camp.

"Kiev, like most cities in Ukraine at that time, was three-quarters foreign, not Ukrainian. And this Kiev, foreign to us, immediately rushed to give Denikin's forces all kinds of help, from ordinary information to armed units of local volunteers. Our Ukrainian Kiev did not manage to provide any such help," the Prime Minister of the Ukrainian National Party Isaac Mazepa later recalled, and representatives of the Galicians agreed that they came to the formally Ukrainian capital " mostly sons of the village, sons of the distant Galician volost, for whom a large city is generally foreign, and Kiev even more so."

But this was clearly not enough.

Although the White Guards, like any military men who know little about government, began literally to turn the clock back: they set the old style of the calendar, the hands to Petrograd time, and began to abolish the laws of the Soviet government and, at the same time, its money. That is, for the people, their cash was again zeroed out.

If the Cheka under the Reds actively caught agents of the "anti-people tsarist power", then the Whites were busy exposing the activities of the Cheka and catching their agents. Quite often this led to lynchings of those suspected of Bolshevism - they were shot right on the streets. Within a few days, the external traces of the presence of Soviet power disappeared - numerous monuments to Marx, Engels, Lenin and other communist figures, Bolshevik announcements.

But armed at first with the motto “now everything will be as before, that is, good”, the people of Kiev still expected something different.

“The population, exhausted to the point of nausea by unexpected changes and ‘revolutions’, almost didn’t care who would rule the city, as long as the new arrivals didn’t shoot, rob or throw people out of their homes,” wrote Konstantin Paustovsky, whose family lived at that time on Annenkovskaya Street, 33 (now Lyuteranskaya Street).

And the Whites, as Shulgin, who was completely loyal to them, bitterly admitted, were “overcome by the Grays and the Dirty… The former hid and did nothing, the latter stole, robbed and killed.” Robberies were a common occurrence and, as a rule, took place with complete impunity – the city was even divided into sections, and individual units “specialized” on certain streets, for example, the 42nd Yakut Regiment of Colonel Karpov robbed houses on Tarasovskaya Street, in Kiev’s “Latin Quarter” next to the university.

"The firmness of the Bolsheviks needs no comment. The anti-Bolshevik forces were never able to act as a united front and with a single strategy. Their most consistent opponents were the White Guards; the rest either refused to actively fight them (the Entente countries), or negotiated with them in mind possible cooperation (the army of the UPR), or simply went over to their side (the Galician Army in 1920; many of the rebels). The Bolsheviks did not always need to drive wedges between their opponents: the latter often provided them with such a service," Stefan Mashkevich states in his book "Two Days from the History of Kiev.

Kyiv once again experienced a change of power. But it was not final, there was still 1920 ahead. And only then was Soviet power established there for the next seven decades. The city, which was never able to "henceforth and forever" return to the "united and indivisible", first became only one of the provincial centers of the Ukrainian SSR. At first, the Ukrainian Bolsheviks did not trust Kyiv, which was alien to everyone, and Kharkov was the capital of Soviet Ukraine until 1934.

MSNBC's Attempt to Engender Sympathy for Kamala Harris on the Basis of Race Backfires When Mixed-Race Voter Delivers Brutal Response
[GatewayPundit] Liberal MSNBC's attempt to engender sympathy for Kamala Harris
It is time for us to do what we have been doing. And that time is every day
based on skin color backfired spectacularly this morning after a brutal response from a mixed-race voter.

The network gathered a panel of mixed-race voters to discuss their thoughts on the Presidential race. During the segment, the 'journalist' asked the voters whether they felt a ''kinship'' with Harris because she is multiracial (Harris is part Black and part Asian) like them.

But she got more than she bargained for when one of the voters said no and went on to rip Harris' poor leadership qualities, particularly when the world was blowing up.

She then twisted the knife by blasting Harris for her tendency to laugh at inappropriate times. As The Gateway Pundit readers know, Harris has a horrendous habit of cackling when nervous or unsure of herself.

Questioner: Do you feel some sort of kinship towards her (Harris) as a mixed person?

Voter: Not personally. I find a lot of her trajectory to not be my brand of woman leader.

We got three major international crises going on and someone applying to be commander-in-chief. As a woman, I want to see you do more than appeal to giggling and having a girl moment on stage.

#9  Ought means should, Zenobia F. Aught means anything.

#10  Thanks. In most such cases I know the difference, but entering text on this sad little phone seems to discombobulate me enough that (what passes for) meaning gets deprioritized. Embarrassing, though. :) But what really bugs me is when the brain just grabs a rhyme and runs away with it. As if it had a mind of its own! Recent "Badr" clanger, say. Cringe-o-rama.

[NewsFront] 21:03 Artillerymen destroyed UAV control point of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kherson direction

Intelligence discovered the location of the control point for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' unmanned aerial vehicles in one of the abandoned buildings on the right bank of the Dnieper. After further reconnaissance and confirmation of the target, the artillerymen received the order to destroy it.

The building with the Ukrainian Armed Forces personnel was destroyed by the precise fire of the 152mm D-20 gun crew. The target was hit by objective control footage.

19:54 Russian UAV operators “finished off” a Ukrainian HMMWV that had previously hit a mine in the Khar'kov region –video.

19:15 Russian Aerospace Forces struck Ukrainian Armed Forces facilities in the temporarily occupied Mirnograd, the Donbas Partizan channel reported.

The target was the territory of the Dimitrov Experimental Mechanical Plant (DEMZ). The plant's workshops and equipment were used for the repair and maintenance of military equipment.

18:50 Anti-tank crews of the Airborne Forces of the Dnepr group of forces destroyed during the rotation of a group of Ukrainian Armed Forces militants in the Kherson region.

18:20 Artillerymen of the "North" group of troops "smash" the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the border area of the Kursk region -video.

17:47 The Russian Armed Forces destroyed a stronghold of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region –video.

17:31 Situation in the South Donetsk direction from "Frontovaya Ptichka":

"Our fighters are attacking the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the village of Vodyanoye. The enemy is probably planning a retreat to Bogoyavlenka.

The liberation of Vodyane will seriously worsen the situation of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in this section of the front, and the Ugledar garrison will begin to suffer even more.

Even Syrsky’s panicky transfer of Ukrainian Armed Forces units from one place to another does not help.”

16:57 Calculation of the 122mm BM-21 MLRS "Grad" of the Dnepr group of troops struck accumulation of Ukrainian Armed Forces manpower north of Rabotino in the Zaporizhia region.

16:35 Artillerymen from the Dnepr group of forces destroyed UAV control point of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kherson direction.

15:57 Russian Aerospace Forces Su-34 bomber destroyed manpower and armored vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the border area of ??the Kursk region, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

15:22 In the DPR, in the Pokrovsk direction, a large cauldron for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is “emerging,” stated VGTRK reporter Andrei Rudenko.

“Several thousand servicemen of the Kyiv regime could end up in it,” Rudenko wrote on his Telegram channel.

15:05 Ukrainian Telegram channels reported explosions in Khar'kov.

14:47 Situation in the Pokrovsky direction from "Military Chronicle"

After reaching Grodovka, the “petals” of the offensive began to open up to the north in the Elizavetovka area.

Now the Ukrainian Armed Forces are under threat of a strike towards the junction at Konstantinovka. Lysovka, adjacent to Pokrovsk, is also currently considered by the Ukrainian Armed Forces command on the ground as an "unstable line of defense" that they will most likely not hold on to until the last soldier.

At the same time, fighting is taking place in the Selidovo area - the city is 25% occupied by Russian troops, but after Novogrodovka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces drew conclusions and pulled up reserves for defense and slowed down the advance of the Russian Armed Forces to Pokrovsk from the south.

The southern flank is still considered a priority for defense, so here, judging by the dynamics of the fighting, Ukrainian troops will most likely resist to the last.

There is some confusion: retreating units are mixed with defense units (with their own command and control), which is why rotation and replenishment of ammunition/equipment occurs in a chaotic manner, which is used by Russian artillery. Krasnopols and FPV drones are actively working.

14:32 Attack drone crews of the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade and the AKHMAT special forces in the area of ??Chasov Yar destroyed personnel of the 5th Separate Assault Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
