Histadrut labor union announces nationwide strike, over failure to release hostages
[IsraelTimes] ‘A deal is more important than anything else,’ says Bar-David, amid outrage over killing of 6 captives; Smotrich says strike illegal, accuses him of representing Hamas interests
Back when the labour socialists were running the government instead of just the labour unions, Histadrut was on strike pretty much all the time. Since they lost control of the government, it’s a lot harder to find excuses.
Histadrut Labor Federation chief Arnon Bar-David declared a general strike on Sunday afternoon over the government’s failure to secure the release of hostages held in Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
. He stated that "a deal is more important than anything else," in light of mounting outrage over the killing of six captives by Hamas
..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...
During a presser in Tel Aviv, Bar-David said that the action — the union’s first foray into politics since October 7 — will start at 6 a.m. and is currently planned as a one-day strike, with decisions beyond Monday to be made later. (It was also announced that Ben Gurion Airport would be shut down at 8 a.m., with all incoming and outgoing flights canceled, but reports later Sunday indicated the airport could function as usual, and passengers were advised to check for updated information.)

"It is impossible to stand idly by in the face of the cries of our children who are being murdered in the tunnels in Gaza. It is unacceptable," he declared after meeting with representatives of the Hostages and Missing Families Forum — which earlier Sunday called on the public "to join a massive demonstration, demanding a complete shutdown of the country" and appealed to the powerful Histadrut to stage a mass strike.

The call angered the government, with far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich branding the strike illegal and saying that the union was playing into the hands of Hamas. Several cities and municipalities announced they would not take part.

The Histadrut’s call was taken up by the Israel Business Forum, which represents most private-sector workers from 200 of the country’s largest companies, as well as Opposition Leader Yair Lapid.

Their demand for a strike came amid widespread anger over the slaying in captivity of six Israeli hostages whose bodies were recovered over the weekend, with many blaming Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for failing to agree to a deal with Hamas to secure their release.

Bar-David’s call for a nationwide strike was welcomed by representatives of the Hostages and Missing Families Forum, which is planning a series of demonstrations calling for a deal and tweeted that "Israel’s social, financial, and municipality leadership voices the people’s demand: Seal the deal now!"

It was also welcomed by Opposition Leader Yair Lapid, who stated that "no Israeli can stand by while the country is falling apart," and Israel Bar Association (IBA) chief Amit Becher, who called on "all lawyers to go on strike tomorrow."

In line with the general strike called by the Histadrut, the Teacher’s Union, a branch of the Histadrut, announced Sunday that all K-12 schools in Israel would be open only until 11:45 a.m. on Monday, except schools for special needs students. A similar notification, sent by the union’s early childhood director, said that all kindergartens would be completely closed Monday, except for special needs centers.

A high-school teachers’ strike, which began on Sunday, not connected to the national labor stoppage, will continue on Monday, the Secondary Schools Teachers Association announced in an earlier statement.

For the time that the schools remain shuttered, Israel’s research universities will also "join the economic shutdown," though some scheduled exams will still be held, depending on the university, the Association of University Heads said in a statement.

"The university heads repeat their call to the government of Israel to make freeing the hostages the highest national mission," the association said.

Several municipalities and local councils announced work stoppages tomorrow, including Ra’anana, Kfar Saba, Tel Aviv-Yafo, Hod Hasharon, and Herzliya.

"I call on all mayors in the country to join our measure. The return of the hostages is a national mission that needs to be carried out immediately," Givatayim Mayor Ran Kunik said in a statement announcing that the city’s civil servants instead will demonstrate together with hostage families to urge the government to reach a deal to release captives held in Gaza.

"Tomorrow, beginning in the morning until midday, there will be no reception of the public [at our offices] and we will allow all employees to go out and support the families’ struggle," Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai tweeted on Sunday, even before Bar-David’s announcement.

Despite this, numerous municipalities have stated that they will not take part in the general strike.

Israel Gantz, the head of the West Bank’s Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, said that his employees would "not take part in an illegal strike that weakens the country" while the Safed city hall argued that it was irresponsible to halt municipal services during wartime.

In court rulings, "it was specifically established that a workers’ committee does not have the right to shut down the economy due to a political debate in protest of political and security issues. With all due respect, no one is above the law," stated Samaria Regional Council chief Yossi Dagan.

"We will not take part in the Histadrut’s political strike," he said.

According to Hebrew media, other cities not taking part include Jerusalem, Ashdod, Bnei Brak, Netanya, Ramle, Dimona, Holon, Petah Tikva, Kiryat Gat, Arad, Beit Shemesh, the northern town of Katzrin, the Merom HaGalil Regional Council and the settlements of Efrat and Ma’ale Adumim.

In addition, the National Committee for Heads of Arab Local Authorities in Israel has said it will not support the strike.

The White Coats — Healthcare Professionals for Democracy called on doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers from all fields to join the planned strikes tomorrow to demand the return of hostage and in support of their families.

FULFILLING SINWAR’S DREAM
Addressing news hounds during a presser in Jerusalem, Smotrich slammed Bar-David’s call for a national strike on Monday, arguing that rather than lending a hand to the Israeli economy during wartime, the union chief was "actually fulfilling [Hamas leader Yahya] Sinwar’s dream, and instead of representing the Israeli workers, he chooses to represent the interests of Hamas."

Smotrich said that he instructed Finance Ministry officials not to pay anybody who strikes on Monday and said that he was "happy to see that there are local authorities who do not align themselves with the decision of the chairman of the Histadrut."

"I call on the workers to come to work tomorrow and not lend a hand to a shutdown that harms the State of Israel during wartime," Smotrich continued, arguing that those in favor of the strike wanted to see Israel "surrender... [and] immerse yourself in illusions about arrangements that are not worth the paper they are written on."

"If, God forbid, we listen to these voices and stop in the middle it will be a disaster," he stated — contending that for the past 30 years, since the Oslo Accords, "we surrendered and fled, gathered behind walls and fences. We asked for artificial peace and tranquility in the present and mortgaged the future for it."

"We brought turbans here and armed them, we released turbans and gave them a second chance to attack us. We destroyed settlements, surrendered territories, neutered the land forces and allowed terrorist monsters to develop under our noses and next to our fences and settlements. Now is the time for correction," he stated.

"This time, we can and must eliminate terrorism, to prove to ourselves and the world that there is a military solution to terrorism, that it can be destroyed with determination and persistence."
Vendetta!

Likud MK Ariel Kallner struck a similar note, tweeting that "Bar-David kidnapped the workers and endangers the kidnapped" and that his "criminal strike...is a gift to Sinwar and a danger to the State of Israel." Gvura

Three wounded by Hezbollah anti-tank missile; 30 rockets fired at north on Sunday
[IsraelTimes] IDF strikes targets in Lebanon; Defense Minister Gallant vows prices ‘won’t be in vain’ during visit to Majdal Shams, where 12 children were killed by Hezbollah rocket in July

A Hezbollah anti-tank guided missile attack maimed three Israelis, including a civilian who was seriously hurt and a member of a northern border community’s local security team who was moderately injured, the military and a hospital said Sunday.

Following the targeting of Kfar Yuval, the civilian, a man in his 40s, was evacuated to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa by helicopter, after initially being taken to Ziv Medical Center in Safed.

Ziv Medical Center said the security team member and a third person injured in the attack were in good to moderate condition and were being treated at the hospital.

Meanwhile,

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? on Sunday, including a barrage of 10 rockets at the Misgav Am area and another 20 at Matat, according to the IDF.

There were no injuries in the rocket attacks.

The IDF also said that throughout the day it had struck Hezbollah rocket launchers in Ayta ash-Shab and Bint Jbeil, as well as buildings used by the terror group in Beit Lif, Taybeh and Odaisseh, among other infrastructure.

Hezbollah later announced the death of a member killed "on the road to Jerusalem," its term for operatives slain in Israeli strikes, identifying him as Hussein Moussawi.

As the attacks from Hezbollah continued, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant vowed on Sunday that "the price we are paying in the north won’t be in vain" as he visited schools near the border with Lebanon on the first day of the school year.

At an elementary school in the northern Druze village of Majdal Shams, where 12 children were killed in a Hezbollah rocket attack on a soccer pitch in July, Gallant spoke with teachers and students who knew the victims, a statement by his office said.

"This is the place that took the hardest hit, and it’s the place we are sending the message — the suffering and pain won’t be in vain," Gallant said during the visit, according to his office.

So far, the skirmishes have resulted in 26 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of 20 IDF soldiers and reservists. There have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.

Hezbollah has named 432 members who have been killed by Israel during the ongoing skirmishes, mostly in Lebanon but some also in Syria. Another 76 operatives from other terror groups, a Lebanese soldier, and dozens of civilians have also been killed.

Masses protest across Israel in flood of grief, anger after Hamas executes 6 hostages
[IsraelTimes] Almost 300,000 rally in Tel Aviv in largest protest since Oct. 7, later clashing with police and blocking highway for hours as they demand Netanyahu agree to hostage-ceasefire deal

Hundreds of thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv on Sunday evening, with tens of thousands more demonstrating across the country in the largest protests since October 7, expressing pain and anger and demanding a hostage-ceasefire deal after the army recovered six bodies of hostages executed by the Hamas

terror group.

Organizers estimated that 300,000 people gathered in Tel Aviv and an additional 200,000 took part in protests across the country. The Crowd Solutions firm estimated that some 280,000 people participated in the Tel Aviv demonstration, in what would be the largest rally in almost 18 months. There were no official numbers from police.

The Tel Aviv protest began with a march from Dizengoff Street to the Begin Gate of the IDF headquarters, carrying six "symbolic coffins" to symbolize the six bodies that were recovered on Saturday night.

The bodies of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, 23, Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Ori Danino, 25, Alex Lobanov, 32, Carmel Gat, 40, and Almog Sarusi, 27, were discovered in a tunnel in Gazoo

’s southern city of Rafah.

An autopsy found that they had been shot in the head and body multiple times at close range between Thursday and Friday morning.

The news of their murders after nearly 11 months of captivity sparked an outpouring of national grief and anger, much of it directed at Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who has been accused of holding up a hostage deal for political reasons.

Demonstrators chanted "Now! Now!" as they demanded Netanyahu reach a ceasefire with Hamas to bring the remaining captives home. Others chanted: "We want them back alive."

Protesters carried Israeli flags, yellow ribbons in honor of the hostages, and signs apologizing to the six dead hostages.

"We really think that the government is making these decisions for its own conservation and not for the lives of the hostages, and we need to tell them, ’Stop!’" said Shlomit Hacohen, a Tel Aviv resident.

Ramping up pressure on Netanyahu, Histadrut Labor Federation chief Arnon Bar-David declared a general strike for Monday over the government’s failure to secure the release of hostages held in Gaza.

Speakers at the Tel Aviv protest included relatives of hostages still in Gaza, as well as Bar-David and Lior Simcha, the secretary general of the Kibbutz Movement.

Following the Tel Aviv protest, thousands descended to the Ayalon Highway where they blocked traffic for three hours, with some setting off fireworks, lighting fires on the road, and placing rocks, fences, nails and metal objects on the road. Some chanted, "Bibi is murdering the hostages," using Netanyahu’s nickname.

Police said in a statement that they were "forced" to declare the protest on the Ayalon illegal and then "used crowd control measures to disperse the rioters."

Around 30 protesters were arrested in Tel Aviv, in addition to five in Jerusalem and others elsewhere around the country.

Police clashed with some of the thousands of protesters on the Ayalon Highway as they attempted to clear the road, including by using water cannons. At least four stun grenades were thrown by cops, lightly hurting several people including Labor MK Naama Lazimi and her adviser, and knocking them down on the road.

Police said an officer lost her consciousness during a "riot" and was hospitalized, without detailing what had happened.

A 51-year-old demonstrator was moderately injured and hospitalized after falling from a height of 2.5 meters, the Ynet news site reported.

The protests, which took place across the country, kicked off with thousands gathering to protest outside the Prime Minister’s Office near the Knesset in Jerusalem during an emergency meeting of the security cabinet.

Many of the protesters blew whistles and trumpets to disrupt the meeting, causing deafening noise. Half an hour into the rally, the crowd observed a minute of silence to honor the hostages. After the minute passed, the crowd erupted again into loud whistles and shouts.

"This was the last minute of silence you will have," shouted one of the organizers in a bullhorn, as he proceeded to read out the names of ministers. "We will not give this security cabinet a moment of quiet until all the hostages are released!"

In Jerusalem, demonstrators also later blocked a key entrance to the city where they clashed with police trying to clear the roads.

Thousands also demonstrated at dozens of bridges, highways and cities around the country in what were likely the largest protests since October 7.

Turkish Youth Group Attacks US Soldiers, Places Sacks Over Their Heads to Protest Israeli Action in Gaza
[RedState] In disturbing video out of Turkey Monday, members of the socialist and nationalist group Turkish Youth Union attacked American soldiers on the streets of Izmir in protest "against Israeli actions in Gaza and decades-long ’U.S. imperialism.’" The soldiers were reportedly serving on the warship the USS Wasp, which is in the Mediterranean supporting U.S. operations in Gaza.

The video shows men aggressively shoving a sack over a soldier’s head:

🚨New: A US soldier was attacked in Turkiye. A group of people put a sack on the head of an American soldier allegedly serving on a US warship (USS Wasp) arrived at the port of Izmir, Turkiye.

"Yankee, go home!" the group chanted.

Fifteen assailants were arrested after the assault.

In a statement, the Izmir governor's office said members of the Turkey Youth Union (TGB), a youth branch of the nationalist opposition Vatan Party, "physically attacked" two U.S. soldiers dressed in civilian clothes in the Konak district.

It added that five U.S. soldiers joined in after seeing the incident, and that police intervened. All 15 attackers had been detained and an investigation was launched into the matter, it said.

The U.S. Embassy to Turkey confirmed the attack and said the U.S. soldiers were now safe.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Family Unsure If Watching Beautiful Meteor Shower Or Just Boeing Plane
[BEE] The Jennings family enjoyed an incredible light show in the night sky, though it was unclear if it was from a meteor shower or from pieces of airplane falling off a Boeing.

"Wow, look at the meteor... or maybe an airplane wing," said Steve Jennings, observing the show. "It's breathtaking. Or maybe really tragic, I'm not sure yet."

According to witnesses, the Jennings raced outside with their telescope after seeing some sort of object race across the sky on their way home from the movies. "Come on kids! These are rare astronomical events," said Jennings, before hearing what sounded like an explosion. "Eh, maybe it's a super common aeronautical catastrophe. Either way, it's going to be a great show!"

The family watched as pieces of unknown matter fell from the sky one after another in a blaze of glory. "This is either one of the best meteor showers I've ever seen or that plane really shattered," said Jennings. "It's so hard to tell these days."

At publishing time, Boeing had announced that it wasn't a big deal or anything but they would offer a $10 Jersey Mike's gift card to anyone who returned a missing plane engine.

AfD wins in Thuringia State Elections; Socialists Coalition only gets 15%
[DetroitNews] Berlin; The Alternative for Germany party's success in two state elections piled new pressure on Chancellor Olaf Scholz's fractious government and left the country's conservative opposition facing political contortions on Monday to find a way to govern a pair of eastern regions without involving the far-right party.

Alternative for Germany, or AfD, became the first far-right party to win a state election in post-World War II Germany in Thuringia on Sunday under one of its hardest-right figures, Björn Höcke. In neighboring Saxony, it finished only just behind the mainstream center-right Christian Democratic Union, which leads the national opposition. Voters punished the three parties in Scholz's governing coalition, which took well under 15% of the vote between them.

--------------
AfD victory largely based on immigration policy although this escapes the notice of the Detroit news.
Deutsche Welle has all the details here, including pretty bar graphs of the preliminary results for both states here.
But Instapundit links to the below, which may or may not turn out to be true in the end:
Election result corrected AfD loses seat in Saxony - this has major consequences

[BlueNews]
  • Incorrect election results have been published in Saxony,5(4 state electoral commission announced.

  • Compared to the previously published election results, the AfD has lost one seat and thus the blocking minority in the Saxon state parliament.

  • The reason for the incorrectly published results was a software error.

With more than a third of the seats, the AfD would have been able to block all decisions requiring a two-thirds majority in future. For example, constitutional judges are elected by parliament with a two-thirds majority. The party had announced its intention to make use of this means as often as possible in order to "drive the government before it".

Famed Beluga whale believed to be ‘Russian spy' dies in Norway
[NY Post] Pretty obviously he knew too much so Vlad had him killed
The Beluga whale made famous for the "Russian spy" harness he was found wearing off the coast of Norway died over the weekend as volunteers said they were close to securing his release to open waters.

The white Beluga whale named "Hvaldimir" was discovered close to the Russian/Norwegian maritime border in 2019 wearing a Russian camera harness, sparking rumors that he was used as a spy, according to Marine Mind, a Norway-based nonprofit founded to protect the whale.

Hvaldimir was a regular sight in Norwegian waters and actively sought human presence, spending a lot of his time at fish farm facilities. According to Marine Mind, he has suffered propeller strikes and other injuries during his interactions with humans.

On Saturday, locals reported Hvaldimir was floating dead in the water. Norwegian news outlet NRK reports his body was found in the waters in Rogaland and taken to Risavika harbor.

OneWhale founder Regina Haug posted an update to Instagram saying that Hvaldimir’s cause of death was unknown, but Norwegian officials would perform a necropsy.
"He loved sushi. That might've been his downfall given FSB tactics"
"We don’t know the manner of death yet but he was in heavily trafficked waters just outside of Stavanger, Norway, so we expect it was not a natural death," Haug said. "We have asked the Norwegian authorities to provide a necropsy and they have stepped up to do this. We are heartbroken. We are angry, too, as we have had to fight so hard, for so long to help him out of danger. And he was finally so close to having a better life."

OneWhale, another organization founded to help Hvaldimir, said it received permits from different government agencies in Norway to move Hvaldimir to a location near a wild Beluga pod in open waters. Belugas live in large groups of pods in the wild, and marine experts say living a solitary life put Hvaldimir at risk.

The organization said it was working to move Hvaldimir to his new home by September, which would have allowed him to live potentially another 50 years.

Hvaldimir ’s presence was well-known in Norway’s waters, and marine nonprofits used his story to promote marine conservation.

"Over the past five years, he touched the lives of tens of thousands, bringing people together in awe of the wonders of nature. His presence taught us about the importance of ocean conservation, and in doing so, he also taught us more about ourselves," Marine Mind wrote.
"I like sardines a lot more now"

VDH - Can They Really Reinvent Kamala Harris in 70 Days?
[American Greatness] An Opportunistic Mediocrity

In theory, it should be hard for Kamala Harris to win the presidency of the United States.

Under pressure, Harris just completed her first "live interview"—a disastrous performance that was mysteriously taped, edited, and emotionally supported by her co-interviewed running mate. During the interview, she claimed that her values remain the same even though her manifestations of them have admittedly changed. Translated, that means for the next 70 days, she will advocate for popular policies antithetical to her own values, which will inevitably resurface after the election once the current facade fades away.

She is a Berkelyite who, as attorney general of California, had a proud far-left tenure. The lifelong large corpus of Harris’s left-wing enthusiasm and causes are only now being unearthed. But they are singular in that her riffs of embracing wokism, being a radical, erasing ICE, doing away with private health insurance, or being the last person in the room when Joe Biden made his disastrous decisions were all given to sympathetic media or pandered to crowds.

NASA astronaut stuck in space reports ‘strange noises' coming from troubled Starliner capsule
[NY Post] Uh Oh
A NASA astronaut at the International Space Station (ISS) on Saturday reported hearing a "strange noise" coming from the Boeing Starliner spacecraft just days before it is set to leave the station and return to Earth on autopilot.

The astronaut, Butch Wilmore, radioed Mission Control at Johnson Space Center in Houston to inquire about the noise.

On an audio recording of the exchange, Wilmore holds up a phone to the speakers so that Mission Control could hear the noise he was referring to.

A pulsating sound emanating at steady intervals can be heard through Wilmore’s device.

"Butch, that one came through," Mission Control says after not hearing it the first time. "It was kind of like a pulsating noise, almost like a sonar ping."

"I’ll do it one more time and let you all scratch your heads and see if you can figure out what’s going on," Wilmore tells Mission Control, playing the sound one more time.

Mission Control tells Wilmore the recording will be passed along and that they’ll let him know what they find.

Wilmore clarifies that the sound is emanating from the speaker inside the Starliner.

The bizarre sound was first reported by Ars Technica, which cited a recording first captured and shared by Michigan-based meteorologist Rob Dale.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Mission Control and Boeing to inquire if the source of the sound has been identified.

Starliner is slated to undock from the ISS, empty, and attempt to return on autopilot with a touchdown in the New Mexico desert.

NASA decided it was too risky to bring back Wilmore and Suni Williams until February.

The astronauts were originally slated for a weeklong trip in early June, but the mission has been mired in problems after thruster failures and helium leaks.

Boeing had counted on Starliner’s first crew trip to revive the troubled spacecraft program after years of delays and ballooning costs. The company had insisted Starliner was safe based on all the recent thruster tests in both space and on the ground.

Enemies of Freedom: BARACK OBAMA
[Free Beacon] Occupation: Serial memoirist, nicotine addict, property owner, Netflix producer, secret Muslim, 44th president of the United States

Background: "Born" in "Hawaii" in 1961, B. Hussein Obama moved with his mother at age six to Indonesia and ate dog meat. He returned to Hawaii years later to join the Honolulu-based "choom gang" and experiment with drugs
and traditional sexual roles
before "enrolling" at Occidental College, followed by Columbia, followed by Harvard Law School. After publishing his first memoir at age 33, Obama worked in the Illinois state government under the tutelage of left-wing terrorist Bill Ayers before getting elected to the U.S. Senate in 2004 and immediately running for president to validate his preternatural self-regard. Mission accomplished.

Hobbies: Hanging out with celebs, drinking wine with "interesting Italians," and complaining about his wife’s literary success. Being wrong about politics might even be considered one of Obama’s hobbies. In 2016, for example, he backed Hillary Clinton over his own vice president. We all know how that turned out. In 2020, Obama was "enamored" with failed candidate Beto O’Rourke and feared Joe Biden would "dishonor himself" by running. He didn’t even donate to Biden’s campaign.
All indications of a competing covert initiative.
Hates freedom? Without question.

Why/how? Where to begin? As president Obama relished every opportunity to apologize for American exceptionalism, which he dismissively likened to "British exceptionalism" or "Greek exceptionalism." His signature move when greeting foreign leaders was the submissive bow. He brazenly lied about whether Americans would be able to keep their doctors following the passage of Obamacare. He repeatedly expressed frustration with the fact that he was merely president of the United States, as opposed to an "emperor" or "dictator" with total authority to decide how the American people should live their lives. Apart from coddling terrorists, his signature foreign policy achievements include
sending CDs to the Royal Family
presiding over the death of an American ambassador in Benghazi and cozying up to seeking validation from the anti-American regimes in Iran and Cuba.

Claim(s) to shame: Generally speaking, Obama is a pathological narcissist who journalists lustily admired as president because he reminded them so much of themselves and satisfied their overwhelming desire to publicly demonstrate opposition to racism and other bad things
while embracing other closet behaviors.
He resented the American people for constantly letting him down, and behaved as though the office of the presidency was beneath him. In March 2014, for example, Obama refused to let Russia’s impending annexation of Crimea spoil his vacation plans. "I needed this," he told former NBA star Alonzo Mourning and other guests at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo. "I needed the golf. I needed to laugh."

Fun fact(s): Obama is the first former president since Dwight Eisenhower, commander of the D-Day invasion, to compose a multi-volume memoir about his time in office. During the 2012 election, the Choom Gangsta voted for himself at precisely 4:20 p.m.

What’s next? Becoming the first ex-president billionaire, finishing his third memoir, and eventually publishing a 900-page novel that reviewers will unanimously praise as "Holden Caulfield meets Ta-Nehisi Coates ... an intellectual call to arms," because they’ll be too gutless to admit it’s rather tedious and overwrought.

Protests erupt at California State Capitol after pair of reparations bills shelved
[FoxNews] "Gimme Dat Money!"
A pair of reparations-related bills for the descendants of enslaved Black Americans failed to pass in the California legislature on Saturday after backers said the bills would not move forward.

Authored by Democrat state Sen. Steven Bradford of Inglewood, Senate Bill 1331 would have created a new state fund for reparations, while Senate Bill 1403 would have established a state agency to oversee these efforts and determine who would be eligible.

These measures were considered key components of some lawmakers’ ambitious efforts to pass legislation aimed at atoning for what they said was a legacy of racist policies that drove disparities for Black people, from housing to education to health.

While the Democrat-led California legislature did a pass a spate of other bills aimed at remedying past racial injustices, none of these would provide direct payments to African-Americans.

#1  A few things:

* California is almost bankrupt and in debt. Where is the $$$$$$ coming from?

* Just because a person is of Darker Skin does not mean their ancestry were 1776-1865 US slaves. Estimates show that the US has admitted just over a MILLION of African immigrants since the Civil war. Most of which had 2+, offsprings each generation for over 150 years (10+/-) generations.

* Isn't the $3.4+/- Trillion in WELFARE and assistance, since the 1960's, to Black families single parent units, a form of Reparations?

* California was admitted as a free state in 1850. So it never had a state or federally allowed slave population.

* Why should California's Non-White (yes that includes Blacks) be taxed to pay for the reparations?

* Not one person being offered Reparations was ever a slave in pre-1865. FACT!

* 96+/-% of the US Citizens NEVER owned a pre-1865 Slave. So why should they be taxed for the sins and errors of the 4+/-%

* It isn't legal to hold a person accountable for the acts of a possible Great Great Great Grand parent?
check the suits against gun manufacturers

* Well over 3/4's of the US population ancestry was not in the USA until AFTER 1870. Why should they be taxed to pay for it?

* If 40 AC and Mule is the basis for this political sham for votes. BUT WAIT!!! it was the DEMOCRAT Party that supported Slavery and now wants the Black Vote? So using the same stupid political logic. Since the Democrat Party existed then and is still around. Shouldn't it and those that support the DNC be SOLELY responsible for paying the $$$$? where did the mules come from?

Remember, Republicans were and still are Anti-Slavery.
While the (D's) are moving towards National Socialism, which supports the Government owning the lives of its slaves.

BTW: Still supporting BLM ?
Because some of the biggest tribal based slave owning countries are still in Africa. Historically, Africans have held many times more slaves than the US, even after supplying millions to a dozen other nations?

Israel Sets Up Army Unit To Oversee Control Of Gaza 'For Years To Come'
[ZERO] Israeli media news site Ynet has reported that the Israeli army is preparing to occupy and control the Gaza Strip for years to come, and this is increasingly the default assumption of Israeli military officers in the absence of a clearly defined long-term mission by top leadership.

The outlet wrote that this comes "in the absence of clear strategic goals for the future of the Gaza Strip."
The clear strategic goal is to remain until a peaceful, de-jihadicized Arab government can be found and become capable of defending the territory against internal and external jihadi impulses, so that it never again is a threat to Israel. But that can’t be said while there’s a Democrat in the White House.
The report continued, "The Israeli army began yesterday through this appointment to accept the fact that its responsibility for the Strip will continue for years and will expand, and about two million Palestinians will remain under its responsibility."

The military's Lt. Col. Elad Goren has been appointed Head of Humanitarian-Civilian Effort in Gaza to oversee these longer term efforts. "This new position is not for show ... It will have an important role for years to come ... Anyone who believes that Israeli control and intervention in the Gaza Strip will end soon, whether by stopping or not stopping the fighting and its decline, or even with or without a deal, is mistaken," a high-ranking security official told Ynet.

High Court rejects writ seeking ban on Awami League
[DHAKATRIBUNE] The High Court has dismissed a writ petition seeking the ban and the cancellation of Awami League's registration as a political party, accusing it of indiscriminately killing students and people.

The High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Md Mahbubul Ul Islam issued the order.

The writ petition was filed by Arifur Rahman Murad Bhuiyan, executive director, Sarda Society, on August 19.

The writ also requested the renaming of institutions named after the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and now exiled former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She was President of the Bangla Awami League since the Lower Paleolithic. She is the eldest of five children of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangla. Her party defeated the BNP-led Four-Party Alliance in the 2008 parliamentary elections. She once before held the office, from 1996 to 2001, when she was defeated in a landslide. She and the head of the BNP, Khaleda Zia showed such blind animosity toward each other that they are known as the Battling Begums. That is probably because Khaleda's late husband was the Pak tool who had Mujib assassinated...
Additionally, the writ seeks a minimum of three years for the current interim government to reform the country, repatriate Tk11 lakh crore smuggled abroad, and transfer officers who were appointed on a contractual basis during the previous Awami League government.

You Heard it Here First: Constitution said threat to democracy
Fascists gonna fascist.
[DailyCaller] Constitution Comes Under Fire, Identified As Possible ’Threat’ To American Politics
Extinction burst. They keep throwing things against the wall that used to work, but ever increasing numbers of voters no longer believe them. So they try ever more outrageous ideas in the hope that this will be the Russia! Russia! Russia! hot button that works this time.
The New York Times

...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

non-fiction book critic Jennifer Szalai claimed the Constitution was "frozen in amber" while reviewing a book by University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, law school dean Erwin Chemerinsky.

Chemerinsky’s book, "No Democracy Lasts Forever," released Aug. 20, argues that the United States Constitution has become a "threat to American democracy" that is "beyond redemption." Szalai claimed that "Constitution worship" was possibly damaging the American political system in her review, citing arguments made by Chemerinsky and other liberal legal scholars, who say the document created a situation where a minority held tyrannical power to thwart.

"According to this line of argument, the damages of Constitution worship extend to the structure of the political system itself. National politics gets increasingly funneled through the judiciary, with control of the courts — especially the Supreme Court — becoming a way to consolidate power regardless of what the majority of people want," Szalai wrote. "This disempowerment of majorities, combined with political gridlock and institutional paralysis outside the judiciary, fuels popular disaffection. The document that’s supposed to be a bulwark against authoritarianism can end up fostering the widespread cynicism that helps authoritarianism grow."

#5  Szalai and Chemerinsky have chosen to ignore the fact that the Constitution can be amended. The amendment process is extremely difficult and time consuming but that is by design so that demagogues can't pass amendments on a whim. The vast majority of the people must be in general agreement on the necessity of an amendment and, with so many people brainwashed by corporate media, such agreements are rare these days.

I know one thing: If I had to choose between the Constitution and the New York Times, I'd choose the Constitution.

#11  Articles like this and the multiple child like ideas held by many folks today, especially by those under 35 of age come about because of a fatal flaw in inculcating today's role of what a Government's true (valid) purpose actually is for each of us trying to "live each of our lives in quiet desperation." The fault can be discovered in most folks inability to understand the the actual, and verifiable answer to the following question: "What is a Right". My guess is that at best just one person even here on Rantburg most likely will not be able to correctly answer this question. The answer to this question is NOT a matter of opinion or personal interpretation. Please mind.... the question is NOT "Please be able to list all the "things" that are Rights". The question is very simple "What IS a Right?" The answer is to state what is the acid test to determine if a person claims something is a Right, to actually determine with certainty if it is a Right? Think back to the issue at hand about our Civil War in 1865. I challenge each of us here on Rantburg to post their attempt to describe what is this acid test to unequivocally demonstrate if something is a Right or pretending to be a Right, meaning its actually just a privilege? I do have the answer and will gladly post it here, but only if others on Rantburg attempt to answer it. My bet is at the very best... just one of us here might be able to answer this correctly. Go ahead and use Google to locate the answer. I bet you won't get it right even using the internet. Victor Hanson and Thomas Sowell know the answer. Anybody willing to give it a good try?

#12  To define a right, one must first establish the fundamental nature of the individual. In classical terms, the individual alone in nature is sovereign, he has no limits on behavior and thought beyond the existential consequences of actions, both immediate and prolonged. One can impute a theological component into this description regarding creation of the individual and an implied divine intent. Regardless of that consideration, the political concept of "rights" at this stage of individuality is universal. The individual has the "right" to do anything that his physical being can accomplish since he is untimately sovereign.

The traditional concept of "rights" as permissions or limits on behavior, thoughts, or possessions is based on agreements of limitations and permissions agreed upon by external connections to others. They take the form of laws, religions, cultures, belief systems, but in each case an "agreement" on the limitations of some aspect the sovereignty of the individual is in return for protections and acceptance in a societal setting. It is a contractual relationship, willing or otherwise, between citizens and the state they create or inherit.

The contextual basis for our own Constitution sees this "natural" sovereign state as being those "rights" as given by God, hence a religious context, and has the concept of the contract between man and state that is our Constitution as an articulation of the limits place on government concerning rights, not the idea that government gives us rights!

#14  This Rantburg right? So.....Excellent try and well written NoMoreBS, but not quite correct. Your answer is not an acid test. You have attempted to define a Right by stating what it isn't. A process of elimination. Much like one might say that a car is not a boat or a train. You state that Rights are not permissions granted by others. I see that nobody else has tried to answer this key question just yet. Any community of people(a sovereign state) has to know what Rights are in order to not create tyranny down the road. Tryanny will abuse Rights, by conflating Privileges to ALSO BE Rights. They aren't. For example, in the early years of the USA (pre 1865) for a long time, folks claimed they had the Right to own other humans. The tyranny that was inflicted was sad. Also the pain to correct this was harsh. Battel of Gettysburg, Antetium etc. Sheridan's march etc. The so called right to own the value created from another human's labor wasn't actually a Right at all. It was simply a false belief. The answer to "What is a Right?" is simply.... A Right does NOT require the existence of another human to exist for you, as to exercise that specific Right. The key phrase to focus on is the term "existence of another human to exist. Let's test this answer. Freedom of speech: Does this require another human to exist for you to express your idea/thought? No it doesn't. How about freedom of religion? It too doesn't require another human to exist for you to believe that that rock over yonder is God or whatever. How about Right to privacy? That too doesn't require other humans to exist. How about self defense from harm, form an attack by a lion? That too doesn't require another human. Now then.... how about there Right to a job? Ahhhh! It does require another human to create a need to hire you. If a job is considered a Right, then somehow other must be forced to give you a job. That is a form of slavery. Forcing other humans to take time out of their life (not by choice but by force or threat of force to give you some of their productivity (value/wealth). How about medical care?, ...or an education? ....or housing? ....or food?, being Rights? These are NOT Rights because in each case other humans have to be forced to give you time or productive value in the from of their labor. Are you required to give a portion of your limited life here on earth to others? Ahhh but you might say these things (like a job or an education/ or shelter/f or ood etc) are all paid for by our taxes. But if others don't willingly chose to pay for these things then what happens. If you DON"T pay your tax... You go to jail. Thus when Privileges are considered Rights, it creates tyranny. That's what we are seeing today. WEF/ Marxism / Socialism / Modern Monetary theory / Illegal immigration / Banned speech on X etc, all these "crises" have the underlying theme of people demanding Rights when they aren't there at all. They are Privileges under the pretense of being Right. Privileges can only be negotiated by mutually benefitial contracts. Social contracts that allow for compensation in return for something of value. It can't be one sided benefit. One's medical care must be bought by the receiver of that care giving up something to get that care. You can't demand care from others for free (without compensation). Today people want things for free. Getting things for free is a form of slavery. You demand that I give you a portion of my labor's product (value) and you don't have to compensate me, since its your "right" to have it for free. Codswallop. That's slavery redefined and coated in make-up. It may not appear to be slavery. But it is.... I've ranted on too long here. But its Rantburg...Correct?

#16  Actually, in the generic and simple form of a definition what I wrote was correct. Absent the other, rights are universal, that is to say all behaviors and beliefs can be called a "right". What you assert, that another is not necessary for something to be a right, is precisely what I said. You asserted, (correctly I might add):

"A Right does NOT require the existence of another human to exist for you, as to exercise that specific Right".

I said:"The individual has the "right" to do anything that his physical being can accomplish since he is ultimately sovereign"..."the individual alone in nature is sovereign, he has no limits on behavior and thought (hence rights such as those you describe) "

What the balance of your epistle was about is contextualized into a current, and definitively American context, with which I am in general agreement.

Africa Horn
Why Ethiopia is so alarmed by an Egypt-Somalia alliance
[BBC] A military alliance between Somalia and Egypt is ruffling feathers in the fragile Horn of Africa, upsetting Ethiopia in particular - and there are worries the fallout could become more than a war of words.

The tensions ratcheted up this week with the arrival of two Egyptian C-130 military aeroplanes in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, signalling the beginning of the deal signed earlier in August during a state visit by the Somali president to Cairo.

The plan is for up to 5,000 Egyptian soldiers to join a new-look African Union force at the end of the year, with another 5,000 reportedly to be deployed separately.

Ethiopia, which has been a key ally of Somalia in its fight against al-Qaeda-linked militants and is at loggerheads with Egypt over a mega dam it built on the River Nile, said it could not “stand idle while other actors take measures to destabilise the region”.

Somalia’s defence minister hit back, saying Ethiopia should stop “wailing” as everyone “will reap what they sowed” - a reference to their diplomatic relations that have been on a downward spiral for months.

WHY ARE ETHIOPIA AND SOMALIA AT ODDS?
It all comes down to the ambitions of Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who wants his landlocked country to have a port. Ethiopia lost its access to the sea when Eritrea seceded in the early 1990s.

On New Year’s Day, Mr Abiy signed a controversial deal with the self-declared republic of Somaliland to lease a 20km (12-mile) section of its coastline for 50 years to set up a naval base.

It could also potentially lead to Ethiopia officially recognising the breakaway republic - something Somaliland is pushing hard for.

Somaliland broke away from Somalia more than 30 years ago, but Mogadishu regards it very much as part of its territory - and described the deal as an act of “aggression”.

Somalia fears such a move might set a precedent and encourage other countries to recognise Somaliland's independence, geopolitical analyst Jonathan Fenton-Harvey told the BBC.

He added that neighbouring Djibouti was also worried it could harm its own port-dependent economy, as Ethiopia has traditionally relied on Djibouti for imports.

In fact in an attempt to deescalate tensions, Djibouti’s foreign minister has told the BBC his country is ready to offer Ethiopia “100%” access to one of its ports.

“It will be in the port of Tadjoura - 100km [62 miles] from the Ethiopia border,” Mahmoud Ali Youssouf told BBC Focus on Africa TV.

This is definitely a change of tune for as recently as last year, a senior presidential adviser said Djibouti was reluctant to offer its neighbour unfettered access to the Red Sea.

Attempts so far to calm tensions - by Turkey - have failed, with Somalia insisting it will not budge until Ethiopia recognises its sovereignty over Somaliland.

WHY IS ETHIOPIA SO UPSET BY SOMALIA’S REACTION?
Somalia has not only brought its Nile enemy Egypt into the mix, but also announced that Ethiopian troops would not be part of the AU force from next January.

This is when the AU’s third peace support operation begins - the first one was deployed in 2007 months after Ethiopian troops crossed over the border to help fight al-Shabab Islamist militants, who then controlled the Somali capital.

There are at least 3,000 Ethiopian troops under the current AU mission, according to the Reuters news agency.

Last week, the Somali prime minister also said Ethiopia would have to withdraw its other 5-7,000 soldiers stationed in several regions under separate bilateral agreements - unless it withdrew from the port deal with Somaliland.

Ethiopia sees this as a slap in the face for, as its foreign minister put it, “the sacrifices Ethiopian soldiers have paid” for Somalia.

The withdrawal of troops would also leave Ethiopia vulnerable to jihadist attacks, Christopher Hockey, a senior researcher at the Royal United Services Institute, told the BBC.

The planned deployment of Egyptian troops along its eastern border would also make Ethiopia particularly apprehensive, he added.

Egypt sees Ethiopia’s Nile dam - in the west of the country - as an existential threat – and has warned in the past that it will take “measures” should its security be threatened.

WHY IS THE NILE DAM SO CONTENTIOUS?
Egypt accuses Ethiopia of threatening its supply of water with the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (Gerd).

This began in 2011 on the Blue Nile tributary in Ethiopia’s northern-western highlands, from where 85% of the Nile's water flow.

Egypt said Ethiopia pushed forward with the project in complete “disregard” of the interests and rights of downstream countries and their water security.

It also argued that a 2% reduction in water from the Nile could result in the loss of around 200,000 acres (81,000 hectares) of irrigated land.

For Ethiopia the dam is seen as a way of revolutionising the country by producing electricity for 60% of the population and providing a constant flow of electricity for businesses.

The latest diplomatic efforts to work out how the dam should operate - and determine how much water will flow downstream to Sudan and Egypt - fell apart last December.

HOW WORRIED SHOULD WE BE?
Egypt sees its military deal with Somalia as “historic” - in the words of Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi - and a possible chance to settle scores over the mega dam.

Indeed the Nile dispute may well play out in Somalia, warns Dr Hassan Khannenje, the director of the Horn International Institute for Strategic Studies.

It could potentially lead to a “low-scale inter-state conflict” between Ethiopia and Egypt if their troops meet at the Somalia border.

Somaliland has also warned that the establishment of Egyptian military bases within Somalia could destabilise the region.

Both Ethiopia and Somalia are already coping with their own internal strife - Ethiopia with low-level rebellions in several regions and Somalia, recovering from a destructive 30-year civil war, still has al-Shabab to contend with.

Experts say neither can afford further warfare - and more unrest would inevitably lead to further migration.

Dr Khannenje told the BBC that if a conflict broke out, it could further complicate the geopolitics of the Red Sea by drawing in other players and further affect global trade.

At least 17,000 ships go through the Suez Canal each year, meaning that 12% of annual global trade passes through the Red Sea, amounting to $1tn (£842bn) worth of goods, according to shipping monitor Lloyd’s List.

For this reason, countries like Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey have been keen to forge partnerships with African nations like Somalia that border the Red Sea.

According to Mr Harvey, Turkey and the UAE stand a better chance at mediating and finding a middle ground.

The UAE has heavily invested in Somaliland’s Berbera port and holds significant influence over Ethiopia because of its investments there.

All eyes will be on the next diplomatic push by Turkey, which has ties with both Ethiopia and Somalia. Talks are due to start in mid-September.

Religions

Ethiopian Orthodox 43.8%, Muslim 31.3%, Protestant 22.8%, Catholic 0.7%, traditional 0.6%, other 0.8% (2016 est.)

The end of Ethiopia bordering Somalia is much more Moslem, and has problems with Al Shabaab.

Separately, as I recall Somalia’s Somaliland and Puntland states are self-ruling and fairly stable, unlike Somalia proper. Interestingly, democratic Somaliland was an English protectorate, while Puntland and Somalia looked to Italy. Also, Puntland is designated as the homeland of the Harti clan, which presumably makes them more homogenous, more easily finding societal agreement than in the viciously chaotic Somalia rump state.

Hostages 'must be returned home', Israel's defence minister
[GEOTV] Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday to conclude a ceasefire deal with Hamas to bring the remaining hostages home from Gaza, as the bodies of six of those taken on October 7 were brought home.

"It's too late for the abductees who were murdered in cold blood. The abductees who remain in the captivity of Hamas must be returned home," he said on the social media platform X.

"The political-security cabinet must convene immediately and reverse the decision made on Thursday," he said.

Gallant has clashed repeatedly with Netanyahu over the need to reach a deal to halt the fighting in Gaza and bring the remaining hostages back in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held by Israel.

Libya’s Notorious Human Trafficker ‘Al-Bidja’ Assassinated in Tripoli
[PUBLISH.TWITTER]

On Sunday, unknown button men assassinated Abd al-Rahman Milad, infamously known as "Al-Bidja," the head of the Naval Academy in Libya.

According to eyewitnesses, al-Bidja’s car was riddled with bullets as he drove through Janzour, west of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
. Medical sources at Zawiya Hospital confirmed the arrival of al-Bidja’s lifeless body shortly after the attack, marking the violent mostly peaceful end of one of Libya’s most notorious figures.

Social media quickly lit up with photos and videos of the aftermath, showing the bullet-riddled car and the lifeless body of al-Bidja. The liquidation of this high-profile figure has sent shockwaves across Libya, where al-Bidja was both feared and infamous for his extensive involvement in human trafficking and smuggling operations.

Al-Bidja was no ordinary criminal. His name was synonymous with the lucrative and deadly trade of human trafficking in Libya, making him a key player in the migration crisis that has plagued the Mediterranean for years. His operations, which facilitated the illegal movement of thousands of migrants colonists to Europe, earned him international condemnation and UN sanctions.

His journey into the criminal underworld began in an unexpected place: the Libyan Coast Guard. Initially serving as an officer, al-Bidja leveraged his position to build a smuggling empire, earning him the moniker "Emperor of Smuggling." Over the years, he expanded his criminal activities, turning the coastal town of Zawiya into a hub for both human trafficking and illegal oil exports.

Al-Bidja’s ruthless tactics made him one of the most feared figures in Libya. He was accused of heinous acts, including deliberately sinking boats filled with migrants colonists to avoid detection by international authorities. His control over Zawiya’s coasties station allowed him to operate with impunity, enriching himself while contributing to the suffering of countless migrants colonists.

In early 2021, al-Bidja’s criminal activities caught up with him when Libyan authorities arrested him on charges of human trafficking and smuggling. The arrest was hailed as a major step forward in the fight against organized crime. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
the victory was short-lived; just four months later, al-Bidja was released, a decision that sparked outrage and underscored the corruption plaguing Libya’s institutions.

Shockingly, during his brief detention, al-Bidja was not only freed but also promoted. His release and subsequent rise to a more prominent position exemplified the deep ties between criminal networks and official institutions in Libya. Despite his notorious reputation, al-Bidja continued to appear at official events, even overseeing cadet training at the Naval Academy and rubbing shoulders with top government officials.

Superintendent orders Oklahoma schools to promote patriotism after student told to remove US flag from truck
Taking the opportunity to make a point.
[FoxNews] 'We want patriots. We want our students flying the American flag,' Oklahoma State School Superintendent Ryan Walters told Fox News

Oklahoma State School Superintendent Ryan Walters told the Fox News Channel that his school district would be enacting new policies to allow students to show their patriotism after an Oklahoma high school student was forced to remove an American flag from his truck by school staff earlier this month.

Walters spoke on "Fox & Friends Weekend" on Saturday to declare that under new state school guidelines, no student will be punished for displaying the flag or showing their patriotism. Rather, they will be encouraged to love their country and better understand its founding.

"We’re not going to tolerate this anti-Americanism," Walters told "Fox & Friends Weekend" co-host Pete Hegseth.

The public school superintendent’s appearance on the channel came several days after Edmond North High School senior Caleb Horst was reportedly instructed by school officials to remove the American flag from the pick-up truck he uses to drive to school.

As Horst told local outlet KOCO, school staff told him it was school protocol to keep flags off campus. Edmond Public Schools denied their stance on flag flying had anything to do with patriotism. They told KOCO the practice was about safety and to avoid becoming a distraction.

The statement added, "To be clear, this is not about the American flag or patriotism. Edmond Public Schools proudly displays the American flag prominently and in the proper, respectful way outside each of our buildings and in our classrooms. Not only do we recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning as we start our school day, but we also present the colors and play the national anthem at most of our athletic events. All of these things are done in the proper fashion according to flag etiquette."
That does put a different complexion on the thing.
Fox News Channel’s interview with Walters led off with some of the new guidelines the superintendent’s department has enacted to prevent such incidents, among them one that obligates schools to develop a clear policy that ensures flags can be flown and displayed, another that requires students in the state to recite the Pledge of Allegiance at least once a week, and another ensuring that schools file a report to show they are complying with these guidelines.

Walters also said that the state’s schools are "redeveloping our social studies standards to get more of an understanding of the American founding."

"We need more patriotism. We’ve seen our schools become leftist indoctrination mills pushing hatred for country. That’s not going to happen in Oklahoma," he declared.

The superintendent issued a memo to state schools in June directing them to incorporate the Bible and Ten Commandments into their curricula for grades 5-10, primarily for historical context. At the time, Walters stated his directive aligns with educational standards approved in May 2019.

Libyan Authorities Break Up Migrant Smuggling Network - LibyaReview
The Libyan Attorney General's office has announced the dismantling of a network involved in migrant smuggling and human trafficking. The operation led to legal actions against the accused individuals.

A statement released on Facebook by the office of the Attorney General last Saturday detailed that the General Directorate of Security Operations investigated activities related to gangs organizing illegal migration and human trafficking in the municipality of Ash Shwayrif.

Initial procedures confirmed the facts and identified those responsible. Security personnel, supported by military units from the Joint Force-South, began raiding the centers involved in the illicit activities.

Security forces documented violations affecting the rights of 1,300 migrants colonists, some of whom were liberated from forced detention and torture used to extort money from their families for their release.

Law enforcement arrested a leader of the organization and ten members, including illegal migrants colonists involved in committing murders, deprivation of liberty, torture, and rape.

The Attorney General's office staff took charge of gathering information, conducting inspections, documenting victims' testimonies, and investigating the incidents attributed to the arrested members of the organization.

Fires at Russian energy plants after Ukraine drone attacks
[BBC] Ukraine has launched a wave of overnight drone attacks on Russia, causing fires at two Russian energy facilities.

According to Russia’s defence ministry, more than 158 Ukrainian drones targeted fifteen regions of the country, including the capital Moscow.

The Russian military claimed that these drones were intercepted and destroyed.

But as a result of the attack a fire has broken out at an oil refinery in Moscow in a “separate technical room”, the city's mayor said.

Sergei Sobyanin reported that at least 11 drones targeted the capital city and the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, 75 miles (120km) from the Russian capital, in the Tver region, loud blasts were heard close to the Konakovo Power Station.

Russian media are reporting a fire at the facility.

The region's governor, Igor Rudenya, acknowledged a fire caused by an attack in Konakovsky district had been contained, without providing details of what was hit.

Local officials also said drones attempted to attack the Kashira Power Plant in the Moscow region - but that there were no fires, damage or casualties as a result.

About 160 Ukrainian drones destroyed overnight over 15 regions, including Moscow
[Regnum] About 160 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones were destroyed at night over 15 Russian regions, including Moscow and the Moscow region, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry reported on September 1 in a Telegram channel.

“The air defense systems on duty destroyed and intercepted 158 Ukrainian aircraft-type UAVs,” the report says.

The Kursk region was subjected to the most massive attack, over which 46 drones were intercepted. Another 34 drones were shot down over the Bryansk region, 28 over the Voronezh region, 14 over the Belgorod region, and eight over the Ryazan region.

Over Moscow and the Moscow region, two and seven enemy UAVs were destroyed, respectively. Another five were intercepted over the Lipetsk region, three over the Tula region, two over the Tambov and Smolensk regions, and one over the Oryol, Tver and Ivanovo regions.

The Kiev regime sent drones to Russian territory to carry out terrorist attacks, the department noted.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, one of the Ukrainian drones that attacked Moscow was neutralized near the Moscow Oil Refinery (MNPZ) in Kapotnya. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that there was no threat to the plant's operations; a separate technical room was damaged.

Ukrainian drones have also been neutralized in the areas of Podolsk, Stupino, Odintsovo, Vidnoye, Ramenki, Sobyanin added.

Three Ukrainian Armed Forces drones attempted to attack the territory of the Kashira State District Power Plant in the Moscow Region, reported Mikhail Shuvalov, head of the Kashira urban district. There is no destruction, electricity is being supplied to subscribers, he noted.

Domodedovo Airport introduced flight restrictions on the morning of September 1.

New Security Patrols Initiated in Ghat & Eastern Libyan Borders - LibyaReview
This Sunday morning, the Security Directorate Support Unit of the Eastern Region announced the initiation of its duties in Ghat by deploying safe patrols within the city.

According to a statement, the security deployment is part of a comprehensive security plan, instructed by the head of the unit, Colonel Mahmoud Bahiri. The implementation follows the launch of an extensive security strategy involving various security agencies and the armed forces.

The forces of the Security Directorate Support Unit in the Eastern Region will conduct intensive patrol operations along the border strip in collaboration with other security agencies, as stated in the announcement.

The objective of this plan is to enhance security and stability in Ghat and its suburbs by deploying patrols that ensure safety and visibly uphold security. This initiative also aims to combat various types of cross-border crimes threatening the country's stability.

Libya's economy, heavily reliant on oil, has suffered due to the ongoing conflict. The instability has led to fluctuations in oil production and prices, impacting the global oil market and Libya's economy.

The conflict has led to a significant humanitarian crisis in Libya, with thousands of people killed, and many more displaced. Migrants and refugees using Libya as a transit point to Europa

have also faced dire conditions.

The planned elections for December 2021 were delayed due to disagreements over election laws and the eligibility of certain candidates. This delay has raised concerns about the feasibility of a peaceful political transition.

Despite the ceasefire, security remains a significant concern with sporadic fighting and the presence of mercenaries and imported muscle. The unification of the military and the removal of foreign forces are crucial challenges.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Feds say pharmacy burglary ring is largest in DEA history
[JustTheNews] More than 40 people accused of running the largest pharmacy burglary stole approximately $12 million worth of controlled substances, according to an indictment.

The bust is the largest in the history of the Drug Enforcement Administration, according to the Department of Justice.
Not counting the cartels of course.
U.S. Attorney Jonathan D. Ross for the Eastern District of Arkansas said Thursday the group of 42 people worked together to burglarize over 200 pharmacies across 31 states.
Was this a twisted example of American enterprise, or yet another rob-to-order gang of illegals going where the robbing is easy?
More than 11 of the affected pharmacies were located in Arkansas, according to Ross.

Ross said the group, based in Houston, Texas, targeted independent, non-chain pharmacies in rural locations and would drive rental cars or take flights to get there.
Well funded from the start.
Their pattern would be to go to their selected target locations in the early morning, break the glass and crawl on the floor to avoid motion detectors.

Stolen medications included opioids like oxycodone and hydrocodone, along with other prescription drugs like Xanax, Adderall and promethazine, Ross said.

“As a result, hundreds of thousands of pills and gallons of promethazine cough syrup were returned and distributed on the streets of Texas,” said Ross.

The street value of the stolen medications is approximately $12 million, according to federal officials.

“As we know, the opioid epidemic is still with us: 107,543 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2023, of which 81,083 were due to opioids,” Ross said. “Theft and illegal distribution of prescription opioid and other scheduled medications fuels the addiction and overdose crisis throughout the United States and theft and illegal distribution of prescription opioid and other scheduled medications result in millions of dollars in proceeds to pro-criminal organizations perpetuating dangerous criminal activity.”

Previously, Ross’s office announced Phase 1 of Operation #RichoffMeds in December. At that point, 18 suspected members of the crime ring had been indicted for burglaries that took place in Arkansas.

This week’s announcement comes after a superseding indictment was returned by an Arkansas grand jury, which charged 24 additional people in the conspiracy to distribute controlled substances for acts that occurred nationwide, Ross said.

Law enforcement seized 11 firearms, around $79,000 in U.S. currency, and custom jewelry retailing at about $510,000 in Houston, which Ross said
were could have been
proceeds from the sale of pharmaceutical drugs.

Most of the defendants appeared in a court in Little Rock Thursday afternoon. The remaining defendants will be in court in September.

#3  Arkansas State Police in 2023 saw a huge rise in illegal drug seizures due to traffic stops compared to previous years. In all, there were 138 significant seizures in 2023. ASP troopers seized more than 11,000 pounds of illegal drugs and $1.4 million from Arkansas highways in total. cocaine seizures showed a huge increase, with 353 pounds confiscated in 2023. The street value of the confiscated cocaine is more than $15 million. Those seizures represent a 146% increase from the 2022 seizure of 143.35 pounds of cocaine by ASP.
The second-highest seizure of illegal marijuana was in December of 2023. Fentanyl seizures were down but still substantial with 65 pounds in 2022 compared to 46 pounds in 2023.

Three Israeli police officers killed in West Bank, Fatah gunman later killed in Hebron
[GEOTV] Three Israeli police officers were killed on Sunday when their vehicle came under fire near the city of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, Israeli officials said, adding to days of violence in the Palestinian territory.

The military confirmed the attack in the area of the Idna Tarqumiyah Junction, saying that security forces were searching for the assailants.

Hundreds of Israeli troops have been carrying out raids across the West Bank since last Wednesday in one of their largest actions in the area in months, which Israel says is aimed at rooting out Hamas resistance fighters.
The Times of Israel has considerably more:
Three Israeli police officers were killed in a shooting attack near the Palestinian city of Tarqumiyah in the southern West Bank on Sunday morning, the military, police, and medics said.

The slain officers were named as Ch. Insp. Arik Ben Eliyahu, Command Sgt. Maj. Hadas Branch, and First Sgt. Roni Shakuri.

A Palestinian gunman opened fire at a police car on Route 35 near the Idhna-Tarqumiyah junction, just east of a checkpoint between the West Bank and Israel, before fleeing the scene. He was later killed in an exchange of fire with troops in Hebron.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said it treated three victims in critical condition. Ben Eliyahu and Branch were declared dead at the scene, while Shakuri died en route to a hospital.

The gunman was believed to have opened fire from a passing vehicle at the police car, before fleeing the scene on foot. It was not immediately clear if there were other attackers with him.

The Israel Defense Forces launched a pursuit of the gunman, later locating and killing him in Hebron.

Troops of the Duvdevan Commando Unit surrounded a building in Hebron where the gunman was holed up, following intelligence on his whereabouts provided by the Shin Bet security agency and Military Intelligence Directorate, an IDF source said.

The commandos carried out a tactic known as “pressure cooker” that involves escalating the volume of fire directed at a building to force a suspect to come out.

The soldiers fired shoulder-launched missiles at the building, and the gunman was eventually killed. The military source said the troops found an M16 assault rifle on his body.

He was named by the IDF and Shin Bet security agency as Muhannad al-Aswad, 31, from Idhna. Al-Aswad was affiliated with the Palestinian Authority’s Fatah movement, and in the past served in the PA’s presidential guard, the military said.

Israel Police Commissioner Danny Levy told reporters at the scene of the attack that the victims were officers from the police’s West Bank district.

Police later named the three.

Ben Eliyahu, 37, from Kiryat Gat, was survived by his wife and three children.

Branch, 53, from Sde Moshe, was survived by her husband, three children, and a granddaughter.

Shakuri, 61, from Sderot, was survived by his wife, a daughter, and a granddaughter. Shakuri’s daughter Mor Shakuri, who was also a police officer, was killed battling Hamas terrorists trying to take over the Sderot police station on October 7.

The attack came after terrorists on Saturday detonated two car bombs in the southern West Bank’s Gush Etzion settlement bloc, some 15 kilometers (nine miles) northeast of Tarqumiyah. Two soldiers were lightly and one moderately hurt in the explosions.

The attackers, who were killed in the attack, were both from Hebron.

Meanwhile, in the northern West Bank, a soldier was killed and three were wounded, including one in serious condition, in a shootout with Hamas gunmen in Jenin on Saturday, amid large-scale IDF operations in the area.

The IDF said Sunday that so far amid its ongoing operation in the northern West Bank, some 30 gunmen have been killed.

Since October 7, troops have arrested some 5,000 wanted Palestinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,000 affiliated with Hamas.

According to the Palestinian Authority health ministry, more than 670 West Bank Palestinians have been killed in that time. The IDF says the vast majority of them were gunmen killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or terrorists carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 29 people, including Israeli security personnel, have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank — including in Sunday’s attack. Another six members of the security forces were killed in clashes with terror operatives in the West Bank.

The state reported 87 new infections and three deaths on Sunday alone, with 217 people currently hospitalized in isolation centres.

The Berber locality has seen a spike in cases, surpassing the city of Atbara, which previously had the highest number of infections.

Separately, an East Nile emergency response team member reported 724 cases of watery diarrhoea, including four confirmed cholera cases, in the region between August 16 and 27.

Heavy rains and flooding often exacerbate the spread of waterborne diseases like cholera, particularly in conflict zones where healthcare facilities are disrupted.

''Al-Ban Jadid Hospital received 181 cases of watery diarrhoea, while Abu Delig Hospital recorded 60 cases, including one confirmed case of cholera,'' the emergency team member told Sudan Tribune.

Kassala protests after man dies in Sudan intelligence custody
Protests erupted in Kassala; eastern Sudan

South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
, on Sunday after a young man died in the custody of the General Intelligence Service (GIS), allegedly due to torture, activists said.

Demonstrators blocked major roads in Kassala and staged a sit-in at the public prosecutor's office, demanding justice for 25-year-old Alamin Mohammed Nur, who was arrested on Friday and pronounced dead hours later.

The public prosecutor has filed a case of premeditated murder and demanded the GIS identify those responsible.

Protesters are refusing to receive Nur's body for burial or end their demonstrations until the perpetrators are arrested and GIS leaders are dismissed.

A relative of the dear departed told Sudan Tribune that Nur, a merchant, was arrested without cause. An autopsy report revealed bruises consistent with torture, he said.

The GIS has reportedly agreed to provide the prosecution with the names of agents involved in Nur's arrest and interrogation.

Security forces fired shots to disperse protesters who surrounded the GIS headquarters in Kassala, witnesses said, though no injuries were reported.

The Bani Amer Youth Gathering, a local group, called for the dismissal of top GIS officials in the state and held them responsible for the death. The East Sudan Bar Association also demanded that those responsible be held accountable.

Sudan's military and security agencies have been accused of widespread arrests and abuses against civilians in areas under their control, particularly those suspected of supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group that has been battling the army since April 2023.

#1  Kassala is an interesting place situated among some fantastic dolmans. The area has had close ties with Ethiopia and Eritrea, and has a large non-Arab but Muslim population. It was a stop-off between Khartoum and Port Sudan. This incident indicates that the Arab Military control over the population of eastern Sudan may be tenuous outside of Port Sudan itself and the area to the north of that city. Port Sudan now serves as the de facto capital of the Sudan, which is a humpty-dumpty failed state if there ever was one. The military will survive as long as Cairo continues to support its existence -- which it does given the long-standing ties to Egyptian expats whose farms provide the food Egypt, with its burgeoning population, must have.

Bangladesh
'We aim to form a government through free and fair elections'
[DHAKATRIBUNE] Ruhul Kabir Rizvi continues to be a prominent leader within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), serving as the Senior Joint Secretary General since his election at the party's sixth conference on March 19, 2016.

Rizvi, originally from Kurigram district, is recognized for his academic accomplishments, holding a Master's degree in both Geography and History, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Law from Rajshahi University.

Rizvi's entry into politics began in student activism with the Left-wing Revolutionary Students' Union.

Following the formation of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal
...student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)...
(JCD), the student wing of BNP, he became actively involved, initially serving as the publicity secretary for the Rajshahi University unit.

His leadership capabilities were soon recognized, and he rose to become the president of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal.

Additionally, Rizvi was elected Vice-President (VP) of the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu) in the 1989 elections.

His extensive experience in both student politics and the broader national political arena has provided him with a nuanced understanding of Bangladesh's political dynamics.

As a seasoned spokesperson, Rizvi plays a crucial role in articulating BNP's positions on various issues, particularly emphasizing the party's commitment to democratic governance and national development.

Rizvi recently spoke with Dhaka Tribune's Siam Sarower Jamil to discuss the current political situation in Bangladesh, the legitimacy of the interim government, and the BNP's stance on various national issues.

LEGITIMACY OF THE GOVERNMENT
When questioned about the legitimacy of the interim government, Rizvi acknowledged that while some view the government's rise to power as unconventional, it is essential to understand that the government operates with the people's support.

He said: ''The constitution exists for the people, and what matters is that the government has the people's support. This government took power in a unique situation, backed by the people's mandate.''

Rizvi also accused deposed prime minister the loathesome Sheikh Hasina
...Bangla dynastic politician and now exiled former Prime Minister of Bangladesh. That is probably because Khaleda's late husband was the Pak tool who had Mujib assassinated...
of manipulating the constitution to establish an authoritarian regime, which he believes has been overcome.

DURATION OF THE GOVERNMENT
Regarding the duration of the interim government's tenure, Rizvi emphasized that it should remain in power only as long as necessary to ensure a stable transition.

He said: ''They will remain in power as long as necessary. The government should initiate reforms as soon as possible, focusing on laying the groundwork for a literate and articulate state. We're willing to give them the time they need, but it shouldn't be prolonged unnecessarily.''

RELATIONS WITH JAMAAT
Despite differing views on the current interim government, Rizvi dismissed any notion of conflict between BNP and its longtime political ally, Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
''BNP has a broader role in this country's politics. We aim to form a new government through free and fair elections. There's no conflict between us,'' he said.

Regarding student movements forming a political party, Rizvi expressed support for a democratic state where all voices could be heard.

CONCERNS OVER SECURITY
When asked about the release of some murderous Moslem leaders and the potential threat to law and order, Rizvi refrained from commenting, saying that these were matters for the legal process and the courts.

He also addressed allegations of BNP leaders and activists being involved in criminal activities following Sheikh Hasina's fall, saying that the party is committed to maintaining discipline and has taken actions against any misconduct.

ANTI-INDIA SENTIMENT
Rizvi clarified BNP's stance on relations with India, denying accusations of anti-India sentiments.

''There's no such thing as being anti-India or pro-India. We protest actions that are against the state. India is our big neighbor, but people are angry for various reasons,'' he explained, pointing out issues like the release of floodwaters affecting Bangladesh.

He also said that BNP has no foreign masters, only friends, and is open to constructive relationships with any country that respects Bangladesh's illusory sovereignty.

PROTECTING MINORITY COMMUNITIES
Responding to concerns about attacks on minority communities after Sheikh Hasina's government fell, Rizvi highlighted the role BNP played in protecting minority homes and temples, asserting that the party stands with all citizens of Bangladesh.

He further reassured that BNP is focused on ensuring the continuity of a democratic government and trusts that the interim government will fulfill its responsibilities in ensuring free and fair elections.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Cmdr: Iran among top six countries in terms of surface-to-air missile range
[IRNA] Second Brigadier General Abbas Azimi, Commander of the Army Air Defense Force in northwest Iran, made the comment on Saturday night.

He was speaking with news hounds on the 16th anniversary of the establishment the Army Air Defense Force as an independent unit under a decree by the Supreme Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution
...Iran's doddering head theocrat...
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
...the very aged actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...>
The commander did not specify the range of the Iranian surface-to-air missiles but emphasized that their range has put Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
among top six countries in the world.

He also said that the country's air defense has made significant progress in terms of both the equipment it uses and the areas it covers for surveillance.

According to Azimi, Iran used to import its air defense equipment before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. But after the Revolution, Iran has managed to produce such equipment domestically and has developed them, he said.

The Iranian army, under the toppled Shah regime, was in control of only 30 percent of the country's skies, while the army is now conducting surveillance in skies all over the country, the commander noted.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Final probe reveals ''bad weather'' as reason of Raisi copter crash
[GEOTV] A final investigation into the May helicopter crash that killed former Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi has found that the accident was caused by bad weather, the body probing the case said Sunday.

The helicopter carrying 63-year-old Raisi and his entourage came down on a fog-shrouded mountainside in northern Iran, killing the president and seven others, and triggering snap elections.

The main cause of the helicopter crash was the "complex climatic and atmospheric conditions of the region in the spring", the special board investigating the dimensions and causes of the helicopter accident said, according to state broadcaster IRIB.

The report added that "the sudden emergence of a thick mass of dense and rising fog" caused the helicopter's collision into the mountain.

Iran's army in May similarly said it had found no evidence of criminal activity in the crash that also killed Raisi's foreign minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In August, Fars News Agency cited the main causes of the May 19 crash as bad weather conditions and the helicopter's inability to ascend with two extra passengers against security protocols.

But the Iranian armed forces were quick to reject the finding saying, "what is mentioned on Fars news about the presence of two people in the helicopter against the security protocols [...] is completely false".

#2  ^ Plus it was a helicopter - thousands of rotating parts each of which are just waiting for a chance to kill you.

I prefer to think the Juice did it since that makes for a much better story than what the crash boys call CFIT - Controlled Flight Into Terrain. Either way, it is the Will of Alan.

[Regnum] Residents of Khar'kov reported that in the building of the shopping center in Khar'kov, which the Russian Armed Forces allegedly struck on September 1, there are militants of the 3rd assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — "Azov"'), reports "Strana.ua".

A recording made by a Khar'kov resident is being distributed in city Telegram channels, in which she stated that the brigade carried out a raider seizure of a shopping center near the Akademika Pavlova metro station “and declared it a military facility,” the article says.

Earlier, Ukrainian media and local authorities reported that a series of explosions were heard in Khar'kov on September 1. According to these data, in addition to the shopping center near the Akademika Pavlova metro station, the city's Sports Palace building was also hit, and explosions were heard in the Hydropark area in the Kievsky district of the city.

The Russian Ministry of Defense did not report any strikes on Khar'kov on September 1.

As reported by the Regnum news agency , the coordinator of the pro-Russian resistance in Nikolaev, Sergei Lebedev, citing his colleagues, reported earlier that there were Ukrainian Armed Forces militants in the Sports Palace in Khar'kov. They "were hardly hiding," and the day before, on August 31, about 200 more militants were brought to the palace, judging by the speech, from Western Ukraine, Nikolaev said.

According to preliminary data, another strike by the Russian Armed Forces on September 1 hit the training ground, there are casualties among foreign instructors, equipment was destroyed, the underground coordinator also reported. In addition, a Ukrainian Armed Forces warehouse with shells was hit, the detonation at the facility lasted for more than an hour, Lebedev added.

Earlier, the pro-Russian underground reported the destruction of a warehouse of unmanned aerial vehicles in Khar'kov, as well as a temporary deployment point of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the outskirts of the city.

Police: Those involved in putting bodies on van in Ashulia identified
The coppers who were seen present and involved in piling up dead bodies on a van in Ashulia have been identified, the police said.

''We are not disclosing names to allow for further steps. But it will be revealed to you very soon,'' Dhaka Superintendent of Police (SP) Ahmad Muyeed told the media after visiting Ashulia cop shoppe on Sunday.

Besides, a four-member investigation committee comprising Additional SP and DB officials have been constituted to investigate the incident of the video which went viral on social media, he added.

Police are handling the matter with utmost seriousness, Ahmad Muyeed said after inspecting the cop shoppe. "The committee is working diligently on the investigation."

However,
the difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits...
the officer said no specific deadline has been given for the submission of the investigation report.

In response to the question of whether a case will be filed against the police involved, he said that a case will be filed in the name of whoever is the culprit. ''The police are not outside the law.''

He further said that not only the students but also many coppers were burnt to death. There will also be a police murder case, he said.

"There are specific directives from the chief adviser to deal with crimes against humanity with utmost importance," he further said.

On Thursday night, a 1-minute and 14-second video went viral on social media, showing two coppers grabbing the arms and legs of a dead body and throwing it onto a van already stacked with bodies.

Subsequently, it was geolocated by the factchecker for AFP's Bangladesh office, Qadaruddin Shishir, and pinpointed to a spot near Ashulia cop shoppe, raising a tremendous hue and cry on social media, where some of the officers involved were also identified as attached to Ashulia cop shoppe.

Major explosion reported in occupied Abyan province
A major explosion rocked on Saturday evening, in one of the districts of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province, southern Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, which is under the control of the Southern Transitional Council (STC) loyal to the UAE.

The explosion occurred in Omran Valley, east of the Mudiyah district, which has been controlled by the STC factions since August 2022.

This comes after the expansion of attacks targeting the STC factions present there by al-Qaeda members, the most recent of which was targeting a gathering of the factions with a boom-mobile in mid-August, leaving approximately 15 dead and 20 injured.

Apple in Talks to Invest in OpenAI as Part of Multibillion-Dollar Funding Round
[Breitbart] Apple is in discussions to invest in artificial intelligence startup OpenAI, joining a funding round that could value the company at over $100 billion.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is reportedly in talks to invest in OpenAI, the artificial intelligence startup behind the popular ChatGPT language model, as part of a new multibillion-dollar funding round. The potential investment would further strengthen the ties between the two companies, following their recent partnership announcement for Apple’s new AI initiative called Apple Intelligence.

According to people familiar with the matter, the funding round is being led by venture capital firm Thrive Capital and is expected to value OpenAI at more than $100 billion. Microsoft, a key investor in OpenAI since 2019, is also anticipated to participate in this round. The exact investment amounts from Apple and Microsoft have not been disclosed.

The news comes just months after Apple revealed OpenAI as the first official partner for Apple Intelligence at its annual developer conference in June. Apple Intelligence is a system designed to integrate AI features across Apple’s operating system, including an enhanced Siri voice assistant, text proofreading capabilities, and the ability to create custom emojis. While some tasks will be handled by Apple’s proprietary AI technology, more complex functions like generating written messages will rely on OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Apple’s decision to invest in OpenAI underscores the company’s commitment to securing access to cutting-edge AI technology. OpenAI faces intense competition from other AI startups and tech giants, but ChatGPT remains a market leader in the field. Apple has also expressed interest in partnering with other companies, such as Google and its Gemini generative AI model, as well as AI startups like Anthropic and Perplexity.

However, investing directly in OpenAI could potentially complicate Apple’s efforts to maintain a neutral stance as a partner with other AI companies. This move is also unusual for Apple, which rarely invests in startups. In the past, Apple has made investments in manufacturing partners to secure component supplies for its devices, as well as strategic investments in SoftBank’s Vision Fund and Chinese ride-hailing startup DiDi Chuxing.

Ingushetia authorities report on employment of Palestinian refugees
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] Twelve refugees from the Gaza Strip have begun working in catering, medical and trade enterprises, and Palestinian teachers are planned to be employed at a state university, the Ingush government reported.

As the "Caucasian Knot" wrote, the first refugees from Palestine arrived in Ingushetia in December 2023. The republic's authorities announced their  readiness to resolve issues of employment for adult refugees and education for children.

The authorities of Ingushetia must ensure the accommodation of 192 refugees from Palestine, the Russian government decided in April.

In Ingushetia, the employment of Palestinian refugees continues, the republic's government reported today on its Telegram channel. "Already 12 people have found work in the catering, medical and trade sectors. Plans include providing teaching opportunities for Palestinian refugees at the Ingush State University and conducting English classes for young people from Palestine," the publication says.

About 80 children evacuated from Palestine will study in the republic's schools in the academic year that has begun, the cabinet noted in another publication made today. "School supplies and uniforms have been prepared for them," the government reported.

Let us recall that many refugees who arrived in Ingushetia have higher education and teach English and Arabic to the residents of the republic. The barrier remains the lack of knowledge of the Russian language, but the Palestinians continue to study it diligently, employees of local volunteer organizations told the "Caucasian Knot" in February.

In one of the schools in Nazran, Russian language classes were organized for children of refugees from the Gaza Strip. In addition, together with a volunteer, children and adults study Russian and Ingush languages. Earlier, students from Palestine who arrived in Ingushetia expressed a desire to continue their education at local universities.

Muslims of the North Caucasus reacted sharply to the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in October 2023. You can read about who and how in the North Caucasus Federal District expressed support for Palestine in the "Caucasian Knot" report " Actions in support of Palestine in the North Caucasus ".

The fighting between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas began on October 7, 2023, with hundreds of rockets fired into Israeli territory, including at civilian targets and civilians. The Israel Defense Forces responded by launching a military operation against Hamas, after which Israel announced a blockade of the Gaza Strip.

Zalingei airstrikes kill civilians, Darfur coordination says
At least four people were killed and dozens maimed in Sudan
...a Moslem country located in the Horn of Africa. It is noted for its affinity for rule by ex- or current generals, its holy men, and for the oppression of the native Afro population by its Arab conquerors. South Sudan, populated mostly by the natives, split off from Sudan proper, which left North and South Darfur to be oppressed by the guys with turbans...
ese army air strikes on the city of Zalingei in Central Darfur, a displaced persons' organization said on Sunday.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group has controlled Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur state, since late last year. The army has recently intensified air strikes in the region, where it is battling the RSF for control.

Adam Rijal, the spokesperson for the Darfur Displaced Persons and Refugees Coordination, said the air strikes late on Saturday hit a camp for displaced people and a residential neighbourhood in Zalingei, killing four and wounding an unspecified number of others.

The army could not immediately be reached for comment.

The RSF has controlled most of Darfur's main cities since conflict with the army erupted in April, while the army holds most towns and villages.

Last week the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
said at least 24 civilians had been killed in two separate air strikes in the region.

Israel's Lapid calls for labour strike after hostages' bodies recovered
[GEOTV] Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid called on Sunday for a strike to shut down the country's economy in order to pressure the government to reach a deal to release the remaining hostages in the Gaza Strip.

Lapid, who is also a former prime minister, called on Israel's main labour union, businesses and municipalities to go on strike.

His remarks came after Israel recovered the bodies of six more hostages from captivity in Gaza.

Mercenary forces infighting among one another in occupied Shabwah
Armed festivities broke out on Sunday between UAE-funded factions in Radhom district of the oil-rich Shabwah province in eastern Yemen

, leaving several maimed.

Informed sources in the province confirmed that festivities broke out between the Death Eaters of the ''Second Shabwah Defense Brigade,'' led by Wajdi Baoum, and the guards of the commander Mukhtar Omar Saleh al-Sulaimani in Radhom al-Sahili, resulting in maimed people, including one of Baoum's guards.

The sources explained that the festivities broke out while commander Baoum was accompanying an Emirati military force that was targeted by al-Sulaimani in Radhom, where the UAE bases camps for its forces, especially in the Balhaf gas facility.

It was reported that the UAE forces command summoned military reinforcements to the region amid tensions likely to explode.

The GOP Needs an Exorcism says 'Party of Lincoln' "Republican"
Ugh.
[Headtopics.com summary of a Dallas News editorial behind their paywall] The party I joined as a 10-year-old in 1952 needs an exorcism. That’s why I’ve joined thousands of other Republicans, including former governors, senators, congressmen, Trump administration officials and members of the Trump family to support Kamala Harris in this year’s election.

Mine is the party of Dwight Eisenhower, who led the Allies to victory in Europe, yet as president, cautioned against the "military-industrial complex." Our capital city has been invaded only twice in our country’s history: once when the British burned the White House in 1814, and once when a mob invaded and threatened to hang the vice president, while the sitting president who instigated and inspired the mob remained silent in that same White House for 187 minutes, watching it on television. These aren’t just the concerns of those informed by mainstream media. Heed the warnings from those who know him best.
The author was a two-term (R) Congressman from Dallas, from 1973-1977. In August 2020, Steelman endorsed Biden for president. He was a member of the steering committee of Republicans and Independents for Biden. Following the 2021 'storming of the United States Capitol', Steelman signed a letter supporting the impeachment of Donald Trump. Steelman endorsed Kamala Harris for president in 2024. The older he gets, the dumber he gets.

Bangladesh
Rohingya smuggler Nabi Hossain arrested
Armed Police Battalion (APBn) have arrested Rohingya drug smuggler Nabi Hossain and his brother from Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar.

The arrestees Nabi Hossain, 47, and his brother Syed Hossain alias Bulu, 45, were residing in a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.

Mohammad Iqbal, commanding officer of the 14-APBn, confirmed the matter on Saturday night.

The police also seized two foreign pistols and eight bullets from their possession.

Mohammad Iqbal said: ''Acting on a tip-off,
[RING!]
Cop shoppe! Sergeant Shafiq speaking!
Lissen! Dis is Mahmoud da Weasel! I got a tip for youse...

a team of APBn conducted a drive at a hideout in B-block of 8-West Rohingya camp in Ukhiya early Saturday night. Spider senses tingling at the proximity of APBn, four or five people tried to flee tactically. Police managed to arrest two people, including Nabi Hossain, but the others managed to escape."
"Run serpentine!"
The commanding officer further said: "Nabi Hossain is the head of Myanmar's armed terrorist organization Nabi Hossain Group. He is the criminal mastermind of various drug smuggling syndicates, including yaba, through the Bangladesh-Myanmar border.

''The group is also active in the Rohingya camps. Members of the group are accused of being involved in various crimes, including murder, kidnapping and drug trafficking. There are several cases against Nabi Hossain with Ukhiya cop shoppe based on these allegations.''

A case has been filed against the arrested individuals under relevant laws at Ukhiya cop shoppe, he added.

Ex-Labor secretary Robert Reich claims Elon Musk 'out of control,' says regulators should 'threaten arrest'
[FoxNews] Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich, who served during Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of the word is...
's presidency, wrote in a column published Friday that Elon Musk was "out of control," and argued he needed to be reined in.
If you don't control him, he's out of control by definition.
"He may be the richest man in the world. He may own one of the world's most influential social media platforms. But that doesn't mean we're powerless to stop him," Reich wrote, including a list of six things people could do to rein in Musk.
Under our Constitutional system, being out of government control is exactly the point of the Constitution.
After Musk purchased Twitter in 2022, now known as X, Reich deemed the purchase "dangerous nonsense." He argued Musk's purchase was "just about power," rather than free speech.
By its very existence, government is solely about power. Musk acquiring Twitter is about Free Speech in the face of overwhelming government power.
Reich called on people to boycott Tesla and X and added, "Regulators around the world should threaten Musk with arrest if he doesn't stop disseminating lies and hate on X."

#6  In the olden days the West was committed to free speech.

Censorship was so odious that even those who desired it wouldn't dare open advocacy. Ironically there was some self-censorship among the advocates of censorship.

That a former US cabinet secretary, i.e. not a fringe kook, would openly call for criminal prosecution, like Robert Yezhov Reich did shows the dangerous extent to which Western values in the traditional West have detriorated.

Free speech is not a luxury but a superior error detection and correction mechanism.

Without freedom the West will turn itself into a collection of Third World Sh**h**s no different from the rest of the world.

But apparently a large part of the Western elite class finds it desirable to absolutely rule decaying and failing nations.

#10  Robert Reich was one of my half-a-dozen or so Professors at the K school. He's actually quite a very short person and full of himself. Almost makes one think he's an actual dwarf. Maybe he is? At the time I thought his oversized character and cartoon like antics while lecturing us during the twice weekly seminars to all be a put-on show. An exaggerated act designed solely to keep our attention focused on what normal folks might consider to be rather boring topics. "Public policy, Government obligations, When to intervene in public policy?, When to modify public administrations? etc. etc." Looking back on those days, it was distraction simply to make his proposals and ideas appear to be insightful. To make them seem more valuable than they would be in day-to-day practice. That was all a year or so before he was asked to be Sec of Labor. Later afterwards some of our Class could see through his ideas and most of his policies were simply unworkable piles of verbal garbage. What a Marxist. Masquerading as an enlightened optimist. Much like the matched pair of Harris and her "man-on-a-leash VP" side kick candidate "imposed by edict" from behind the curtain folks onto the Ballot for this November. Coddswallop.
