Afghanistan
Islamic Emirate Announces Arrests of ISIS-K Members
[ToloNews] Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, announced the arrests of perpetrators behind the recent attacks in Kabul and Bamyan.

Mujahid, in a statement, said that these attacks were carried out by individuals affiliated with the ISIS-Khorasan branch, and they had received training in Mastung, Balochistan.

The spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate said: "The special units and Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate have arrested important members of the insurgent group who had attacked the employees of the Directorate of Supervision and Prosecution of Decrees and Orders, and were also involved in several other attacks in Kabul and the attack on foreign tourists in Bamyan province."

On May 17th, an armed attack targeted civilians and foreign nationals in Bamyan, resulting in the death of six people, including three Spanish citizens and three civilians, and injuring seven others, including three locals and four foreign nationals.

Furthermore, on September 2nd, a suicide bomber attacked the employees of the Directorate of Supervision and Prosecution of Decrees and Orders, killing six people and injuring thirteen others.

Zabihullah Mujahid also added that from the hideout of the Kabul attack planner, including both light and heavy military equipment, a Tajikistani national was arrested, who intended to carry out a suicide attack.

Mujahid stressed that after conducting these operations, the leaders and remaining members of the ISIS-Khorasan branch, with the assistance of some intelligence agencies, have been transferred to Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

"It is evident that 95 percent of the attacks that take place in Afghanistan are planned in Pakistan, and those crimes are then carried out in Afghanistan," said Aziz Stanekzai, a military analyst.

"It is the responsibility of neighboring countries not to allow terrorist groups to destabilize both Afghanistan and other trans-regional countries. In this regard, there needs to be an international consensus, especially in the fight against terrorism," said Zalmai Afghan Yar, another military analyst.

The spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate further mentioned that ISIS, using new centers in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, conducts attacks in Afghanistan and other countries, targeting religious, political, and clerical figures.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid stated in a press release that, during a series of operations in Kabul and Nangarhar, those responsible for attacks on Afghanistan judiciary employees and foreign tourists in Bamiyan were apprehended.

Mujahid further explained that investigations revealed that the attackers targeting employees of the “Prosecution and Monitoring of Orders” directorate had entered Afghanistan from a training camp of ISIS-Khorasan in Mastung, Balochistan.

He added that in separate operations in Kabul and Faryab, two ISIS members were killed, and several others were arrested.

Two arrested for setting fire to Girls’ school in Panjshir
[KhaamaPress] Authorities confirmed on Monday, September 30, that the Bibi Amina High School, located in Paranda, Bazarak, Panjshir province, was torched at around 9 p.m. the previous night.

Officials further stated that the fire department arrived promptly after the incident and extinguished the fire.

Police have arrested two individuals accused of setting fire to a girls’ school in Panjshir province. The suspects have confessed to the crime, and their case is now under legal review.

Their case will be processed through the legal system.

The motive behind the arson and the identities of those involved remain unclear.

A similar incident had occurred in Panjshir province previously, indicating a worrying trend.

Since 2021, girls in Afghanistan have been banned from attending school beyond the sixth grade, deepening the country’s educational and humanitarian crisis. The ban has left millions of girls without access to education, worsening poverty and hopelessness in the nation.

This policy has drawn widespread condemnation from the international community, with many calling it a violation of basic human rights. Amid dire poverty, the denial of education only exacerbates the country’s suffering, leaving a generation of girls without prospects for a better future.

Assad regime strikes kill two in rebel-held Idlib: Monitor
[Rudaw] At least two civilians were killed and three injured on Monday in artillery strikes carried out by the Syrian army on the northwestern Idlib province, the last remaining rebel bastion in the area, a war monitor reported.

“Two civilians were killed and three others were injured as a result of artillery shelling by regime forces targeting homes in the city of Sarmin, east of Idlib city,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based war monitor.

Half of Idlib province, as well as parts of Aleppo, Hama, and Latakia provinces, are the last rebel-held bastions in the country after President Bashar al-Assad seized back swathes of territory over the course of the brutal Syrian civil war, which erupted in 2011.

Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the former Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, is the prominent force among dozens of different rebel factions operating in the rebel-held northwest. It controls large swathes of Idlib and parts of Aleppo, Hama, and Latakia provinces.

It has been internationally recognized as a terrorist organization.

A ceasefire brokered by Russia and Turkey has been in place in northwest Syria since March 2020, but the area has witnessed a recent flare-up in violence.

Over 13 million Syrians have been displaced since the start of the civil war, more than six million of which are refugees who have fled the war-torn country, according to a report from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Gaza notes - IDF strike on Nuseirat camp kills 11, IDF soldier hit with anti-tank fire in southern Gaza
There is probably more going on, but the world’s attention has moved to Lebanon, so the IDF can just quietly get on with the job.
At least 11 Palestinians killed in Israeli strike in Gaza’s Nuseirat camp, Gaza medics say

[IsraelTimes] At least 11 Palestinians were killed, including women and children, in an Israeli strike on a house in Nuseirat camp in central Gaza Strip, Gaza medics tell Reuters after midnight on Tuesday. There is no immediate comment from the IDF, which says it takes steps to avoid casualties to civilians while Hamas embeds its fighters among them.

Israeli soldier seriously injured in southern Gaza, likely from anti-tank fire

[IsraelTimes] An IDF soldier with the Yiftah Brigade’s 8108th Battalion was seriously wounded earlier today during fighting in the southern Gaza Strip, the military says. According to an initial IDF probe, the soldier was hit by anti-tank fire. He was taken to a hospital in Israel for treatment.

Israeli High Court rejects petition demanding release of body of Arab-Israeli terror convict
Tit for tat.
[IsraelTimes] The High Court of Justice unanimously rejects a petition demanding that the government release the body of Walid Daqqa, an Arab-Israeli citizen who died in April this year in prison after being convicted for his role in the abduction and murder of Israeli soldier Moshe Tamam in 1984.

The ruling, issued by justices Isaac Amit, Ofer Grosskopf and Gila Kanfi Steinitz, determines that the decision of Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, approved by the security cabinet, to keep hold of Daqqa’s body did not exceed the boundaries of the principles of reasonableness or proportionality, and that there was therefore no cause for judicial intervention.

Owing to Daqqa’s importance to the Palestinian national movement, the security cabinet decided to keep hold of Daqqa’s body in order to use it as leverage in negotiations with Hamas for the return of the hostages abducted by the terror organization on October 7.

In its decision, the High Court rules that alongside the value of respecting the dead and the right of family members to bury their dead, the goal of freeing captives is a foundational principle of the country and is expressed in the controversial nation-state law, one of Israel’s quasi-constitutional Basic Laws.

The court acknowledges that the case of Daqqa was exceptional, in that although Israel has in the past held on to bodies of Palestinian terrorists, it has not done so for Israeli citizens. It says however that the military commander has the right to hold on to bodies including those of Israeli citizens.

It also says that Daqqa was “adopted” as a symbol by Hamas which itself hold on to the bodies of Israelis for use in negotiations to release its Palestinian prisoners.

The court says that since it is the opinion of professionals within the security establishment that holding on to Daqqa’s body “is likely to advance in an effective manner” negotiations for the return of the bodies of IDF soldiers and Israeli citizens, the decision is reasonable and proportionate.

“At the time of writing these lines, standing before my eyes are the hostages, the captives, and the missing, and the IDF soldiers, who have been in Gaza since October 7, and the families of those who have been there [Gaza] for many years — IDF soldiers Sgt. Hadar Goldin and Staff-Sgt Oron Shaul, and Israeli citizens Avera Mengistu and Hisham al-Sayed,” writes Amit.

“The voice of our brothers cries out from the tunnels in the Gaza Strip. May the prophecy of Jeremiah ‘and the children shall return to their borders’ be fulfilled for all of them speedily in our days.'”

The Adalah legal aid organization, which works to protect civil rights of Arab Israelis and Palestinians which petitioned the court to have Daqqa’s body released, condemns the decision, saying it was based on a “racist worldview.”

Said the organization, “Judge Yitzhak Amit justified the denial of the constitutional rights of the deceased and his family members to burial according to their faith by relying on the state’s duty to protect the members of the Jewish people in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law: Nation-State.”

It adds that anyone who believed that the contentious nation-state law was only declarative “can now clearly conclude that the High Court has validated anchoring the status of Arab citizens as an enemy population that has no protection for their fundamental rights.”

US: We haven’t released updated bridging proposal because Hamas refusing to engage, still gifting $300mil in aid to W. Bank and Gaza
[IsraelTimes] I am shocked. For so many reasons.

US to announce over $300 million in aid for Palestinians in Gaza, West Bank today

[IsraelTimes] The United States will today announce nearly $336 million in additional humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, according to a US Agency for International Development (USAID) statement seen by Reuters.

The funding will enable USAID’s partners to continue to provide humanitarian aid, including food assistance, healthcare, nutrition and other services, according to the statement.

The funding will also support emergency shelter assistance for displaced Gazans ahead of winter, the statement says.

“Over the last year, this conflict has cost the lives of innocent Palestinians and Israelis and has left Gaza and the West Bank in a state of humanitarian crisis and dire humanitarian need,” the statement says.

“The United States continues to call on all parties to agree to a ceasefire deal and an immediate release of hostages, and to allow for the immediate scale-up of humanitarian aid moving into and throughout Gaza.”

President Trump stopped all payments to the Palestinians when he was in office last time. So that is when it will be at least significantly reduced.

UN chief condemns Hamas for not allowing Red Cross visits to Gaza hostages
Very good. Almost an entire year after the kidnappings, but at least he said it. Has the Red Cross done so yet?
[IsraelTimes] UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemns Hamas for not allowing the International Committee of the Red Cross to visit the hostages in Gaza.

“I’d like to condemn the fact that the Red Cross is not even allowed to visit those hostages,” Guterres says, in a speech at an event raising awareness of hostage-taking worldwide. “This is something clear in international humanitarian law. Hostages… are entitled to receive Red Cross visits. I once again strongly plea for the ICRC to be allowed to visit these hostages.”

Guterres reiterates his call for the immediate release of the remaining 101 hostages being held in Gaza. He laments that efforts to broker a ceasefire have yet to bear fruit.

“I hope that the horrible events that we’re seeing will teach a lesson to the world for this [practice of hostage-taking] not to be possible anymore,” he adds.

The New York event is organized by Hostage Aid Worldwide, in partnership with the Raoul Wallenberg Center for Human Rights.

Maybe Hamas is worried the Living Hostage count is not what they claim? Or Hamas can locate them all due to recent Radio/Pager issues ;-)

Iraq
US forces accounted for after reported rocket attack in Baghdad, official says
Probably the Kataib Hezbollah militia, working on Iran’s payroll and direction.
[IsraelTimes] Multiple Katyusha rockets were fired near Baghdad International Airport, two Iraqi military officials told Reuters early on Tuesday, but a US official disputes reports that its military forces were targeted in the incident.

“All military personnel are accounted for and military forces were not targeted as had been reported,” the US defense official tells Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

Two Iraqi security sources say an initial investigation showed three rockets were fired, including one that landed near buildings used by Iraqi counter-terrorism forces, causing damages and fire to some vehicles but no casualties.

The sources had previously said at least two Katyusha rockets were also fired at a military base hosting US forces and that air defenses intercepted the rockets.

But the US official says Washington was aware of reports of an attack instead on the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Complex, which is a Department of State facility.

The US Department of State is assessing the damage caused by the attack, according to a spokesperson, who says there were no casualties.

Iraq, a rare regional partner of both the United States and Iran, hosts 2,500 US troops and also has Iran-backed armed factions linked to its security forces.

Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq have repeatedly attacked US troops in the Middle East since the Gaza war began.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
IDF announces launch of limited ground raids of Hezbollah sites across Lebanon border
[IsraelTimes] Incursion aimed at removing terror group’s infrastructure along Blue Line; US official tells ToI: We understand desire for limited op, but are concerned about mission creep

The military launched limited raids into southern Lebanon late on Monday night against Hezbollah forces and infrastructure positioned along Israel’s northern border, hours after the security cabinet was said to have approved plans for the newest phase of the war against the Lebanese terror group, in a move that the US appeared to express its support for.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the IDF said that a “targeted and limited” incursion had begun several hours earlier, and was focused on Hezbollah targets and infrastructure in a number of Lebanese villages along the border that posed an immediate threat to Israeli towns on the other side of the Blue Line.

Ground troops operating inside southern Lebanon were being assisted by air and artillery forces, the military said, adding that the operation was based on plans drawn up by the IDF’s General Staff and Northern Command.

Confirmation that Israeli troops were operating on the Lebanese side of the border came several hours after various conflicting reports emerged on social media and in some Arabic media outlets as to whether some troops had already crossed the border. Lebanese troops had further added to speculation when they pulled back about five kilometers (three miles) from positions along the border late on Monday, apparently opting to stay on the sidelines, as it has historically done in major conflicts with Israel.

Ahead of the IDF’s announcement, an Israeli official told the Times of Israel that their US counterparts had been informed that the goal of the limited operation was to remove Hezbollah positions along Israel’s northern border, thus creating the conditions for a diplomatic agreement under which the terror group’s forces would be pushed back beyond the Litani River, in line with UN Security Council resolution.

In an apparent attempt to waylay US concerns about the incursion, two Israeli officials told the Axios news site that the operation would be limited in both time and scope and was not intended to occupy southern Lebanon. While the US had voiced concern earlier on Monday that even a limited incursion could spread further and turn into something else once it was already underway, the Biden administration appeared to express its support for the raids by way of a call between US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

“We agreed on the necessity of dismantling attack infrastructure along the border to ensure that Lebanese Hezbollah cannot conduct October 7-style attacks on Israel’s northern communities,” Austin said in the Pentagon’s readout of the call. During the call, the pair discussed Israel’s latest military operations, and Austin “made it clear that the United States supports Israel’s right to defend itself.”

While he seemed to voice support for the IDF operation, Austin nevertheless stressed that the incursion was not an end in of itself.

“I reaffirmed that a diplomatic resolution is required to ensure that civilians can return safely to their homes on both sides of the border,” he said in the readout.

The US defense official also “made clear that the United States is well-postured to defend US personnel, partners, and allies in the face of threats from Iran and Iran-backed terrorist organizations and determined to prevent any actor from exploiting tensions or expanding the conflict,” the readout continued. It added that Austin “reiterated the serious consequences for Iran in the event Iran chooses to launch a direct military attack against Israel.”

Echoing this line of thinking, another US official pointed to how Israel framed its 1982 invasion into Lebanon as a “limited” incursion, and how it had turned into an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon.

The start of the IDF’s ground offensive came some two weeks into intensified fighting with Hezbollah, and after Operation Northern Arrows was launched earlier in September to meet the recently declared war goal of bringing residents of Israel’s north back to their homes following their evacuation last October under heavy rocket fire from the Lebanese terror group.

Earlier in September, thousands of Hezbollah’s communication devices exploded, reportedly taking some 1,500 fighters out of action, in an attack widely blamed on Israel.

Israel then engaged in days of targeted attacks, wiping out most of Hezbollah’s leadership in repeated strikes, culminating in the IDF killing longtime Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah on Friday, when fighter jets dropped massive bunker-buster bombs on the group’s underground headquarters, located beneath residential buildings in a suburb of Beirut.

In its statement on Tuesday morning, the military stressed that it was “continuing to operate to achieve the goals of the war and is doing everything necessary to defend the citizens of Israel and return the citizens of northern Israel to their homes.”

Throughout the period of intensified fighting, the IDF had warned that it could conduct a limited ground offensive into Lebanon, leading the country’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati to make an apparent last-ditch effort on Monday to stave off the possibility by declaring that the Lebanese government was ready to fully implement a 2006 UN Security Council resolution that had aimed to end Hezbollah’s armed presence south of the Litani River. He did not, however, say that he had reached an agreement with Hezbollah on the matter, and it was not clear how he proposed to implement UN Resolution 1701 — which declares that Hezbollah is barred from maintaining a military presence south of the Litani — without use of force against the terror group that effectively controls southern Lebanon.

In the hours leading up to the limited raids, several European countries began pulling their diplomats and citizens out of Lebanon. Germany sent a military plane to evacuate diplomats’ relatives and others, while Bulgaria sent a government jet to get the first group of its citizens out.

The UK said that it had chartered a commercial flight for its nationals who wished to evacuate Lebanon, expected to depart from Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport on Wednesday, with further flights dependant on demand. Canada said that it had reserved 800 seats on commercial flights for citizens who wished to evacuate. About 45,000 Canadians are currently in Lebanon, and the next flight was scheduled to depart on Tuesday.

At the same time as the IDF announced it had begun operating inside Lebanon, Syrian state media reported that the country’s air defenses had intercepted “hostile targets” over the vicinity of Damascus, following an explosion that was heard in the capital. The state television channel later said that one of its anchors had been killed in what it said was three rounds of allegedly Israeli strikes in the area of the capital. Identifying the anchor as Sadaa Ahmad, the channel said he was “martyred in the Israeli aggression on the capital Damascus.” Citing a military source, the state media outlet said two others had also been killed, and nine people were wounded. There was no immediate comment from the IDF, which rarely comments on reports of airstrikes inside Syria.

Sirens warning of incoming Hezbollah rocket fire continued to blare periodically across northern Israel on Monday night and into the early hours of Tuesday, as did reports of Israeli strikes across southern Lebanon and in Beirut. Three rockets were launched from Lebanon toward the Israeli town of Shtula shortly before midnight, setting off sirens in the border community. The rockets all landed in open areas, and the attack was claimed by Hezbollah. Sirens were also triggered in the Upper Galilee town of Misgav Am and the surrounding area shortly after, although there were again no reports of damage or injuries. The IDF later said that ten rockets had been fired from Lebanon, some of which were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system while others had landed in open areas.

The Israeli Air Force, meanwhile, intercepted an unmanned aircraft over the Mediterranean Sea, dozens of kilometers west of Israel’s central coast.

Shortly before midnight, the IDF warned civilians to flee three sites in Beirut’s southern suburb, a Hezbollah stronghold known as Dahiyeh, before it commenced strikes in the area, and Lebanese media outlets reported that large explosions could be heard across Beirut. Speaking to AFP on the condition of anonymity, a Lebanese security official said that Israel had conducted at least “six or seven strikes” in the southern Beirut suburbs. It was not immediately clear what the targets were, or what damage had been caused.

In a more general update, the Lebanese health ministry said that over the past 24 hours, at least 95 people had been killed and 172 wounded in Israeli strikes on the country’s southern regions, the eastern Bekaa Valley and Beirut.

In southern Lebanon, Lebanese media and a Palestinian source said that Israel had launched a strike on a building in the Ain El-Hilweh Palestinian camp near Sidon. It marked the first strike on the overcrowded camp, the largest of Lebanon’s several Palestinian camps since cross-border hostilities broke out nearly a year ago. The strike had targeted Mounir Maqdah, commander of the Lebanese branch of the Palestinian Fatah movement’s military wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, according to two Palestinian security officials. Maqdah’s fate was not immediately clear.

IDF says chief of Hezbollah’s medium-range rocket unit killed in Saturday strike
[IsraelTimes] The commander of Hezbollah’s medium-range rockets unit was killed in an airstrike on Saturday in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, the military announces. Eid Hassan Nashar was a “veteran commander” in Hezbollah and was a “central source of knowledge in the field of rockets,” the IDF says. He previously served as the head of the surface-to-surface missile unit, and the deputy of the Badr regional unit, according to the military.

Most of Hezbollah’s leadership, including the commander of its rocket and missile division, Ibrahim Qubaisi, have been killed by Israel in recent weeks. Other top commanders in the division have also been killed.

The IDF says it also struck caches of medium-range rockets, which can reach up to 200 kilometers, in recent airstrikes in Lebanon.

Report: IDF special forces entered Hezbollah tunnels during Lebanon cross-border operations
[IsraelTimes] The small raids made by Israeli special forces into Lebanon in recent months have included sending troops into Hezbollah tunnels along the border, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Hezbollah’s tunnel network is cumulatively several hundred kilometers long, Tal Beeri, an expert on underground warfare, told The Times of Israel in January.

Hezbollah has also tunneled directly into Israel, but those tactical tunnels were exposed and destroyed by the IDF in the January 2019 Operation Northern Shield, according to Beeri.

Israeli strike near Syria-Lebanon border injures seven pro-Iran militants: Monitor
[Rudaw] At least seven pro-Iran militants were injured in an Israeli strike in the countryside of Damascus, near the Syria-Lebanon border, a war monitor reported on Monday, amid soaring regional tensions against the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war.

“Seven elements, most of them non-Syrians, were injured in an Israeli airstrike on a border crossing on the Syrian-Lebanese border in Rif Dimashq from the Syrian side,” said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor.

The strike targeted a border crossing that is experiencing heavy traffic, with tens of thousands of Lebanese citizens making their way to Syria to flee simmering tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

#2  Diplomacy works when:
1) Both sides agree to the same thing.
2) Both sides KEEP the agreement.

When either of those fails, the "agreement" is just a bunch of words without meaning, and diplomacy itself is meaningless. When that happens, the only recourse is sufficient might for one side or the other to enforce the "agreement".

With Lebanon, what Israel should do is conquer southern Lebanon, open it ONLY to Christian Lebanese, kick the UN out of the way, and stomp Arab Lebanon every time they rise up to do any damage to either southern Lebanon or Israel. No member of the United Nations (which have only monetary interest in anything in the Middle East) should be allowed into Israel, Gaza, or Lebanon without being in risk of his/her life.

It won't bring peace, but it WILL cut down the number of murders.

Arabia
Houthi rebels say US-made drone shot down over Yemen
[IsraelTimes] Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed Monday that they shot down another American-made MQ-9 Reaper drone over the country, with videos purportedly showing a surface-to-air missile striking it. The US military did not immediately acknowledge losing any aircraft.

The Houthi-run broadcaster Al-Masirah claimed shooting down the MQ-9, hours after video footage circulated online showing the purported missile striking the aircraft over Yemen’s Saada province. A single image online also appeared to show wreckage of the drone, with pieces resembling that of an MQ-9.

The US military did not respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

General Atomics Reapers, which cost around $30 million apiece, can fly at altitudes up to 50,000 feet (15,240 meters) and have an endurance of up to 24 hours before needing to land. The aircraft have been flown by both the US military and the CIA over Yemen for years.

Since Houthis seized the country’s north and its capital of Sanaa in 2014, the US military has seen Reapers shot down in Yemen in 2017, 2019, 2023, and 2024. The US military acknowledged the Houthis shot down two MQ-9s in September.

The Joint Maritime Information Center, overseen by the US Navy, acknowledged the last attack on a merchant ship by the Houthis came on September 2, but the rebels remain a threat.

“Despite a drop in attacks against merchant vessels over the last two weeks, the Houthis have shown ability and willingness to target US Navy assets and coalition partners,” the center said. The Houthis claimed an attack targeted American warships last week.

Dockworkers' strike could push up prices and cause shortages if it lasts for weeks
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — From Maine to Texas, dockworkers at 36 ports across the eastern United States are on strike for the first time in decades, a work stoppage that could snarl supply chains and cause shortages and higher prices if it stretches on for more than a few weeks.

Workers began walking picket lines early Tuesday in a strike over wages and the ports’ use of automation, though some progress was reported in negotiations over a new contract. The existing contract between the ports and about 45,000 members of the International Longshoremen’s Association expired at midnight.

The strike comes just weeks before a tight presidential election and could become a factor in the race if shortages begin to affect many voters.

In early picketing, workers outside the Port of Philadelphia walked in a circle and chanted, "No work without a fair contract." The union, which is striking for the first time since 1977, posted message boards on the side of a truck reading: "Automation Hurts Families: ILA Stands For Job Protection."

#5  FWIW,

Although there hasn't been a strike since 1977 the ILA has initiated several work slowdowns.

Also, the average wage for an ILA member is about $40/hr. Non wage benefits, e.g., paid vacation time, health benefits, are difficult to estimate but most analysts think it is equivalent to about $25/hr.

Home Front: Politix
Tim Walz Said He Was in Hong Kong During the Tiananmen Square Massacre. He Was Home in Nebraska.
[WFB] Think CBS Moderators will ask him about this in the debate? Me neither
Walz’s claims in 2014 congressional hearing are a tall tale, video and local news reports show
At a 2014 congressional hearing held to mark the 25th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, Tim Walz, then a congressman representing Minnesota’s first district, recalled being in Hong Kong when the Chinese Communist Party crushed the student protests that had roiled the country since mid-April of 1989. The unforgettable crackdown came on June 4 of that year.

"I was just going to teach high school in Foshan in Guangdong, and was in Hong Kong in May of ’89," he said. "And as the events were unfolding, several of us went in. And I still remember the train station in Hong Kong." He went on: "There was a large number of, especially European, I think, very angry that we would still go after what had happened, but it was my belief at that time that the diplomacy was going to happen on many levels."

That anecdote has since been repeated, without scrutiny, by the New York Times, CBS News, and National Public Radio, among others. In reality, local news reports show that Walz was at home in Nebraska in May and June of 1989, as protests convulsed China and the government’s response turned the world’s attention to its gross human rights violations. He wouldn’t depart for China until August.

Contemporaneous news reports show Walz touring a National Guard storeroom in Alliance, Nebraska, in May 1989. They indicate that Walz did not leave the United States until August of that year, at least two months after the student protests ended with the Tiananmen Square massacre.

Tim Walz Really Excited After Hearing He Might Get Spanked At Debate
[Bee] U.S. — A source close to the Harris campaign reveals Tim Walz is "very excited" for this week's Vice Presidential Debate after learning he might get spanked by JD Vance.

"I was nervous at first because Vance seems to know what he's talking about," Kamala Harris' running mate said, "but I didn't realize it was that kind of a debate."

"I can barely contain my excitement!"

Walz, a known tampon aficionado, claims to be "an actual heterosexual married to a woman," dispelling rumors that he is a gay man. However, his newfound eagerness for a spanking by Vance appears to contradict previous statements that he "loves the womens."

"I'm not a gay," Walz said on the campaign trail. "Why do people keep asking me that?"

News of Walz's excitement has reportedly reached JD Vance, who sources claim is now no longer looking forward to the debate.

At publishing time, Tim Walz asked his wife not to come to the debate. "We're just doing guy stuff, you wouldn't be interested," he said.

Bitar is the highest-ranking official at the White Houseresponsible for coordinating the U.S. government's intelligence and defense policy.

In his youth, Bitar was a radical Palestinian supporter, an Anti-Israel activist, and a Board Member of the radical activist group Students for Justice in Palestine in its early days.

According to Rep. Mike Lawler, who has deep concerns about Bitar’s position, Bitar was also an intern for UNRWA.

Lawler also claims that Bitar has shown "a clear bias against and disregard for Israel."

Evidence has shown UNRWA is intertwined with Hamas, which is a U.S. designated terrorist organization.

SJP is the subject of multiple investigations and lawsuits for alleged ties to Hamas.

-Land of the Free
Ron Paul on Freedom of speech
[x]
For over 100 years, the U.S. government ’tolerated’ freedom of speech because they virtually controlled the information that Americans received.

Whether it be from the government-controlled schools, or from watching one of the handful of ’licensed’ TV stations, all Americans consumed the same pre-packaged "narratives."

There was no threat to the government from Americans speaking freely, as long as the "narratives" were controlled.

But that monopoly has been shattered with the Internet.

We all choose our sources of information, who to follow and who to block, or just ignore.

While lies will always exist (both in and out of government) the American people actually have fighting chance to hear the truth!

It's now possible to hear/see/read the truth, and it can come from anywhere in the world, at any time.

Under these new circumstances, the government is finding freedom of speech intolerable, because their control over information is gone.

Democrat admits in leaked video that Kamala Harris is in big trouble in Michigan: 'We have her under water in polling'
[The Blaze] One state in the Democratic 'blue wall' could cost the Democrats the election.

A video obtained of a Michigan Democrat during a donor call undermined the media narrative that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris was safely ahead in the battleground state.

Harris is only about 1.4% ahead of former President Donald Trump in the RealClearPolitics average of polls for Michigan, and some polls included she is winning by as much as as 5%.

"I'm not feeling my best right now about where we are on Kamala Harris in a place like Michigan," said Slotkin in the video obtained by Axios.

"We have her underwater in our polling," Slotkin added.

However, according to Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a Michigan Democrat who is running for an open U.S. Senate seat, the Harris-Walz ticket is losing in their internal polling. She was speaking with Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey on a leaked video from a virtual fundraiser.

'Without hesitation': FBI whistleblower warns Kamala WILL JAIL her opponents
[The Blaze] After the weaponization of Biden’s DOJ — where peaceful pro-life activists and attendees of January 6 were jailed — it should come as no surprise that Democrats want to crack down harder on American citizens.

Recent comments made by Virgin Islands delegate Stacey Plaskett on the weaponization of the federal government couldn’t have made that more obvious.

"It’s necessary for the public and the media to try and provide cover for the eradication of the Department of Justice and the FBI," Plaskett said, claiming without these agencies there would be no checks "against white nationalism, great replacement theorists, Christian nationalists, white fragility, fascists, and the twice-impeached convicted felon former President, and would-be dictator, Donald Trump."

FBI whistleblower, Steve Friend, believes Plaskett reflects "entirely what they’re all interested in."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Hamas Leader Killed in Israeli Air Strike Was United Nations Employee
More on the gentleman.
[Red State] Fateh Sherif was, supposedly, an educator — the principal of Deir Yassin Secondary School. He was also an employee of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA.) Sherif also moonlighted as a Hamas leader, responsible for coordinating Hamas actions with Hezbollah, including recruiting and logistics operations.

Now he's been shuffled off the mortal coil by the Israeli Air Force after an air strike eliminated him, and the UNRWA is finally admitting he was one of theirs.

A U.N. aid group confirmed Hamas’ leader in Lebanon, who was recently killed by Israeli strikes, was their employee.

Fateh Sherif was killed Monday in an airstrike on the al-Bass refugee camp in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre, along with his wife and children.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) noted that Sherif had been on suspension with the organization since March but had not been fired.

"Fateh Al Sharif was an UNRWA employee who was put on administrative leave without pay in March and was undergoing an investigation following allegations that UNRWA received about his political activities," an UNRWA spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

At the time, his suspension sparked widespread protests and strikes by teachers in Lebanon.

What a fine example he set for little Lebanese schoolkids! It's important to note that Sherif had been living this not-so-subtle double life for some time now, and the UNRWA seemed to notice only after they came under scrutiny for some of their members providing support for, if not actually taking part in the Oct 7th attacks on Israel — and for stealing and reselling humanitarian aid meant for non-Hamas Gazans.

Government Corruption
NY Judges Scrutinize ‘Troubling' $450 Million Penalty In Trump Fraud Case: ‘No One Lost Any Money'
[The Federalist] Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron ordered in February former President Donald Trump to pay an approximate $450 million penalty in a civil fraud case in which there were no victims. Now, a New York appellate court is raising questions regarding the "troubling" penalty and Attorney General Letitia James’ justification for bringing the case in the first place.

James accused Trump of inflating his personal wealth to get better loan terms. Trump, for example, valued his Mar-a-Lago estate at between $427 million and $612 million, Forbes reported. Engoron, however, cited a one-off local Palm Beach County appraiser who valued the property as low as $18 million. Some experts have reportedly valued the sprawling property in the hundreds of millions.

As my colleague Mark Hemingway explained earlier this year, "Trump took out loans over several years, as real estate moguls are wont to do. For him to get approved for those loans, the banks did their own due diligence about Trump’s finances and ability to pay back the loans and decided to give them to him. Trump paid back the loans, and everyone made money."

Enogoron ultimately ordered Trump to pay $354 million plus an additional $100 million in interest. Trump posted a $175 million bond in April and appealed the ruling.

All-time hits leader Pete Rose dies at 83
[MLB] CINCINNATI – A gritty baseball great who compiled a nearly unrivaled list of achievements, only to tarnish his own legacy with sins against the game that drew a nearly unrivaled list of detractors, Pete Rose died on Monday at the age of 83.

Rose passed with the distinction of being both Major League Baseball's all-time hits leader and on its permanently ineligible list for betting on Cincinnati Reds games.

"Major League Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Pete Rose's family, his friends across the game, and the fans of his hometown of Cincinnati, Philadelphia and beyond who admired his greatness, grit and determination on the field of play. May he rest in peace," MLB said in a statement.

Every time Rivers came to the plate Pete was positioned literally 10 feet in front of the dirt cut-out and *then* would start his momentum forward as the pitcher released the ball. He basically dared Rivers to hit line drives at him while simultaneously announcing "There will be NO bunt hits this series." It was Rose being Rose--the ultimate competitor.

Three senior officials of PFLP killed in Zionist attack on Beirut
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine (PFLP) mourned three of its leaders who were killed in an Israeli bombing of a residential apartment in the Cola area of central Beirut early on Monday.

In a statement, the group identified the deaders as Mohammed Abdel Aal (Abu Ghazi), member of the Political Bureau of the Front, and Head of the Military Security Department, Emad Odeh (Abu Ziyad), member of the Military Department of the Front, as well as its military leader in Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
; and Abdel Rahman Abdel Aal.

''As the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine bids farewell to its heroic martyr leaders, it pledges to them and to all the deaders of our people and our nation that it will continue the path of struggle and resistance until the occupation is swept away, no matter how long it takes and regardless of the sacrifices, '' the statement read

Lebanese media sources reported that Israeli drones attacked an inhabited residential apartment in the Cola area of central Beirut.
The Times of Israel adds:
According to the military and Shin Bet, Nidal Abd al-Aal was involved in planning and advancing terror attacks in the West Bank.

The IDF and Shin Bet say al-Aal was behind a bombing attack on a bus in the settlement of Beitar Illit in March 2023, as well as a shooting attack in Huwara in the same month, the latter of which wounded two soldiers.

Alongside him, Imad Odeh, a PFLP military commander, and another operative, Abdelrahman Abd al-Aal, were killed in the strike.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainian Perspective: Invasion of Ukraine: September 30, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title
.
[Korrespondent] 20:25 The G7 foreign ministers issued a joint statement reaffirming that they will never recognize Russia's annexation of Ukrainian territory. "This war of aggression can end now if Russia immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraws its troops from all of Ukraine to its internationally recognized borders, renounces its claims to the annexation of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, as well as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, and respects the sovereign rights of Ukraine as an independent state," the statement said.

20:04 The next meeting in the Rammstein format in Germany will be "special", Zelensky said in an evening video address. Earlier it was reported that the meeting will take place on October 12 at the level of heads of state and will be chaired by Biden. "From our side, our partners receive all the details, all the arguments on how to ensure results in the coming months both at the front and in diplomatic work. The power of arms and the power of diplomacy always work effectively only together, and this is how we expect, this is how we must implement the victory plan. We also expect specific things from our partners," the Ukrainian president emphasized.

He also announced the preparation of another security agreement, this time on the 27th. In addition, Zelensky said that today he held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Headquarters, where they discussed the staffing of brigades, the purchase and supply of weapons and equipment for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Another meeting was with Commander-in-Chief Syrsky and Chief of the General Staff Bargilevich, who reported on each of the front-line areas. "A very difficult situation. The most important thing is to put pressure on Russia by all means, all instruments, in order to achieve our goal as soon as possible - a real and fair peace for Ukraine," the head of state noted.

18:08 Russians struck a team of power engineers in the Dnipropetrovsk region, hitting a service vehicle, DTEK reported. The repair team, which was working near the front line, managed to take cover and was not injured. The drone hit the service vehicle and completely destroyed it.

16:43 September was the first month since the start of the war during which Russia attacked Ukraine with Shahed drones daily, writes ArmyInform. According to Air Force statistics, in September the enemy launched a total of 1,339 Shahed attack UAVs at Ukraine, of which 1,107 were shot down, and some were suppressed by electronic warfare. On average, the Russians launched 44 Shaheds daily, and the largest number of attack drones was launched on September 14 - 72.

16:07 Stoltenberg said that NATO has not recorded any changes in Russia's nuclear doctrine "that would require any changes on the part of the Alliance."

15:34 The Ministry of Justice assured that Ukrainians who were forcibly given Russian passports in the occupied territories will not be held accountable. "Article 40 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in the presence of evidence of the use of psychological coercion, provides them with full legal protection in court," the department said.

15:18 In the Donetsk region, near Chasovy Yar, another Russian "war correspondent" was wounded, Izvestia newspaper employee Denis Kulaga, Russian media write. He was riding an ATV when an FPV drone flew into him. Kulaga received shrapnel wounds to both legs, burns and fractures of his lower limbs, but his life, as stated, is not in danger.

13:59 Putin signed a decree on the autumn draft: from October to the end of December, 133 thousand people are planned to be called up. The General Staff of the Russian Federation emphasized that conscripts "will not be involved in the implementation of tasks within the framework of the SVO in new regions."

12:45 Peskov called for "not excessive appeals" to changes in the Russian nuclear doctrine in the context of the war in Ukraine, which "continues on its own course." At the same time, he added that the decision to adjust the nuclear doctrine "is important, all changes will be formalized accordingly."

12:36 In the morning, Russians struck Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region with an FPV drone, one person was killed, said the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

11:48 For Ukrainians who are in the temporarily occupied territories, a service called Ty v Ukrainі has been created. The service includes a free VPN and a special browser for residents of the temporarily occupied territories. Thanks to it, Ukrainians will be able to stay in touch with Ukraine, even if the occupiers block Ukrainian sites or introduce their local Internet. Registration on the website tyvukraini.com.

11:27 The European Union will introduce a new sanctions regime against Russia, RFE/RL Europe Editor Rikard Jozwiak reported: "EU ambassadors will agree on a new thematic sanctions regime on Wednesday, targeting Russia's hybrid threats. It will be formalized next week. There are no names yet, but they will be added in the future." The journalist added that the EU initially wanted to introduce a general sanctions regime, but eventually agreed that it would focus on Russian threats.

11:04 In Sumy Oblast, nine people were wounded as a result of Russian shelling over the past day, the National Police reported. The enemy carried out 280 strikes on 50 settlements.

10:56 Russians have been attacking the Kherson region since the morning: three people were injured in Velyka Oleksandrivka, two more in Kherson, OVA reported. In addition, three residents of the region who were injured yesterday due to Russian UAV strikes sought hospital treatment: in Berislav, Belozerka and the Belozerskaya community.

10:13 In the Kiev region, debris from downed "shaheeds" fell in six districts: grassy areas caught fire, a private house caught fire, and a cemetery was damaged. No one was hurt, OVA reported.

09:28 In the Kherson region, over the past day, as a result of Russian shelling, one person was killed and 12 were injured, reported the head of the OVA, Oleksandr Prokudin.

09:17 In Donetsk Oblast, two people were killed as a result of Russian shelling on September 29 - in Lisovka and the village of Shevchenko. Three more people in the region were injured in the past 24 hours, reported OVA head Vadim Filashkin.

09:10 In the Kharkiv region, over the past day, four people were injured as a result of Russian shelling - two in the village of Boguslavka in the Izyum district and two in the village of Odnorobovka in the Bogodukhovsky district, reported the head of the OVA Oleg Sinegubov.

09:04 The victory plan will be presented to the public for review, but some of its points are secret, said the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak: "Everything that becomes public is heard not only in our country, but also by the enemy. And therefore, of course, some details of this plan are closed."

08:46 Air defense destroyed 67 of 73 Shahed-type attack UAVs at night, the Air Force reported. One drone flew in the direction of Belarus, three more were lost in the northern regions of Ukraine. One UAV remains in Ukrainian airspace, combat work is underway.

In addition, at night Russia attacked with one Kh-59/69 guided air missile (it was also shot down), as well as one Iskander-M ballistic missile and one Kh-31P anti-radar missile. Air defense forces operated in the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Zhitomir, Poltava, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk and Nikolaev regions.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
How did Israel prepare for the elimination of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah?
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

Original text in English, and behind a paywall, but posted in its entirety at Boris Rozhin's Live Journal account.

[ColonelCassad] Since the assassination of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Quds Force commander Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in Iraq on President Donald Trump’s orders in 2020, Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has emerged as the de facto leader of the “axis of resistance.” As a result, he has become a top target for both the United States and Israel, especially since Hezbollah announced its support for a second front in the war on Gaza.

In response, Israel has been constantly updating its list of high-value targets, employing the latest technologies of fifth- and sixth-generation brilliant warfare to locate and eliminate resistance leaders, whether in their homes or meeting places.
Not to mention on the road between home and meeting places. An awful lot of Hezbollah bad guys have died on the road to Jerusalem, as they like to say, while going somewhere.
The assassination of Hezbollah’s leadership, most notably Sayyed Nasrallah, whom Israel claimed to have killed in a large-scale strike, fits into Israel’s broader strategy to neutralize what it perceives as one of its most serious threats. These efforts are not new, but have been going on since 2006, when an unprepared Israel faced a less powerful Hezbollah. Today, the Israeli military is far better equipped, both technologically and strategically, to engage Hezbollah in a full-scale conflict. An important component of this preparation has been the accumulation and analysis of vast quantities of intelligence collected over the past 18 years. Israel’s intelligence capabilities have evolved significantly, using a combination of human intelligence (HUMINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), geospatial intelligence (GEOINT), and advanced cyberwarfare to identify Hezbollah’s vulnerabilities. The Israeli intelligence community, led by agencies such as the Mossad and Aman (the military intelligence directorate), operates a sophisticated network of informants, technical surveillance, and advanced data analysis systems that are used to make military decisions in real time.

INTELLIGENCE CAPABILITIES:
1. Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) and Predictive Analytics:
Israel uses GEOINT to locate underground bunkers, missile silos, and hidden facilities, which is essential for identifying Hezbollah command centers, weapons depots, and safe houses. High-resolution satellite imagery, often augmented with artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, allows Israel to locate fortifications, track personnel movements, and identify new construction projects. Predictive analytics uses massive amounts of data, including Hezbollah’s past behavior patterns, to anticipate future enemy movements. AI-driven systems analyze historical data, intercept communications activity, and use spatial intelligence collected by satellites deployed by Israel and its key ally, the United States. This allows the Israeli military to plan strikes in advance based on where they predict high-value targets will appear.

2. Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and Communications Interception:
SIGINT is a critical element of Israel’s intelligence-gathering success and involves the interception and analysis of communications. This mission is carried out by Israel’s Unit 8200, one of the most advanced signals intelligence units in the world. ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) satellites monitor Hezbollah cellular devices, wireless networks, and encrypted communications. These satellites intercept communications traffic, which is then analyzed for patterns, critical information, and target identification. AI-powered systems can quickly sift through massive amounts of intercepted data, spotting unusual spikes in communications or operational changes that indicate imminent movements or plans within Hezbollah.

3. Cyberwarfare and Hacking Capabilities:
Israel has invested heavily in cyberwarfare, and artificial intelligence plays a major role in cyber espionage and offensive cyber operations. Israeli cyber units can penetrate Hezbollah’s digital infrastructure, intercepting emails, messages, and tactical communications, as well as disrupting the group’s internal networks. AI systems help Israeli intelligence gather data and automate countermeasures, such as spreading disinformation or disabling critical systems. By penetrating Hezbollah’s secure communications and databases, Israel gathers valuable intelligence, improves situational awareness, and even prepares preemptive strikes based on this knowledge.

4. Drone surveillance and AI integration:
In addition to satellite reconnaissance, Israel makes extensive use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or drones, to serve as surveillance assets and platforms for targeted strikes. Often controlled by artificial intelligence algorithms, these drones can monitor specific areas in real time, collect high-resolution video footage, and transmit that information to intelligence analysts for immediate action. Drones equipped with advanced sensors and cyber tools can hack into local communications networks without being detected, further expanding the reach of Israel’s intelligence-gathering apparatus.
Good lord — how do they find the time and manpower to actually fight?
Once this data is decrypted, consolidated, and analyzed, Israeli military and intelligence officers use pattern recognition to pinpoint high-value targets like Sayyed Nasrallah. This process is designed not only to provide direct intelligence on Nasrallah’s location, but also to identify locations that he or his lieutenants are likely to use repeatedly, allowing Israel to plan targeted strikes with minimal collateral damage.

85-TON STRIKE:
If Israel dropped 85 one-ton explosives using bombs like the GBU-31 JDAM or SPICE 2000, it would require at least 42 F-15Es and F-16s to carry out the strike, which is the required number of aircraft based on their payload capacity.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) 69th Squadron, also known as the "Hammer Squadron," operates 24 F-15I Ra'am fighters, which led the deadly attack.

The F-15E Strike Eagle is one of the most capable fighters in the Israeli air force for delivering bunker busters like the GBU-31 or SPICE 2000. Each F-15E can carry up to two GBU-31 bombs (each weighing one ton or 2,000 pounds).

Along with the F-15E, support aircraft such as the F-16, electronic warfare fighters and surveillance drones (SEAD missions) will be deployed to suppress enemy air defenses and provide situational awareness throughout the targeting and operational approval process:

Identification of a high-value target such as Nasrallah will be accomplished in real time using satellite intelligence (GEOINT), signals intelligence (SIGINT), unmanned surveillance and human intelligence (HUMINT). Real-time verification will confirm Nasrallah’s location, ensuring that the risk to civilians is low while the precision of the strike is prioritized. This phase can take anywhere from a few hours to a few days, depending on the strategic importance and clarity of the intelligence.

Once the intelligence is verified, the information is passed on to the IDF General Command and the Israeli Air Force (IAF) for operational planning. A mission of this magnitude requires final approval from the Israeli Prime Minister (Benjamin Netanyahu) after a detailed briefing by Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Given the nature and urgency of such a high-priority target, the decision-making process could take minutes. Once approval is received, the IAF will begin preparing the aircraft, which includes loading munitions (such as the GBU-31 JDAM and SPICE 2000 bombs), briefing the pilots just hours before the attack, and coordinating the strike. Given Israel’s advanced level of military readiness, this phase will likely take several hours.

The timing of the operation will depend on intelligence on Nasrallah’s location. The fact that the pilots were briefed just hours before the operation began suggests the urgency of the mission. However, the broader strategic decision was likely in the works for days or weeks, with the IDF waiting for the precise moment when Nasrallah's presence would be confirmed.

The entire process, from target confirmation to mission execution, could take anywhere from a few hours to half a day, with final execution taking 30 minutes to an hour to reach Beirut's Dahiya. The distance from Israeli air bases such as Ramat David Air Base or Hatzor Air Base to Beirut is relatively short, with F-15E fighters taking 30 minutes to an hour to reach the target.

BUNKER BUSTERS AND THEIR EFFECTS:
- GBU-31 JDAM (1-ton variant):
This bomb is a GPS-guided munition used to deliver precision strikes against hard-to-reach targets. The sheer volume of bombs used (85 tons) results in massive destruction, with each bomb designed to penetrate hardened structures before detonating.

- SPICE 2000:
This is an Israeli-developed smart bomb that has been used extensively in Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza. Like the GBU-31, the SPICE 2000 is a precision-guided munition that can target underground bunkers and hardened command centers.

- Impact on Buildings:
Hitting bunkers with 85-ton bombs causes massive damage. The bombs can penetrate deep into the ground or through hardened structures before exploding. This explains the crater that is 15 to 30 meters deep and the collapse of many buildings. The penetrating ability of the bombs ensures that they cause significant damage not only to the buildings they are aimed at, but also to nearby buildings, effectively “sucking” neighboring buildings in.

A successful assassination of Nasrallah could strengthen Netanyahu’s position among Israel’s security-minded right-wing electorate. The operation would be hailed as a major victory in removing a significant threat to Israel’s security. While Nasrallah’s assassination could be a temporary blow and catch Hezbollah off guard, it could also provoke retaliatory strikes from Hezbollah, potentially escalating the wider conflict. Israel is escalating by demanding that the population of southern Lebanon, Beirut, and the Bekaa stay away from any Hezbollah office or headquarters. This means forcibly expelling civilians and preparing to destroy Lebanon’s Shiite region unless Hezbollah turns the tables on Prime Minister Netanyahu and seizes the initiative.

STRATEGIC IMPLICATIONS:
Israel continues to target Hezbollah’s military infrastructure and leadership, not just the top brass but also the second and third tiers, using its vast intelligence resources accumulated over many years. While the Netanyahu administration is encouraged by what it perceives as a victory in the air campaign against Lebanon, the shift in focus from military capabilities to individual leaders reflects a broader strategy of decapitation – a tactic designed to destabilize Hezbollah’s command structure, disrupt its operations, and threaten its existence.

The air war in Lebanon provides Netanyahu with what he believes is a historic opportunity to decisively weaken Hezbollah. Israel’s refocusing of its military efforts on Lebanon has also eased domestic pressure on the Netanyahu government, providing it with a respite from the political fallout from the recent war in Gaza. However, the conflict is far from over.

Hezbollah has yet to fully respond. The group is currently regrouping and rethinking its strategy. With a new leader appointed following the announcement of Sayyed Nasrallah’s martyrdom, it is only a matter of time before Hezbollah makes its next move. The battlefield remains the deciding factor, and the real impact of these strikes will become apparent in the coming days.

Ugledar in pincers, Mirnograd in sight. Russian Armed Forces advance in Donbass
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Sergey Adamov

[REGNUM] Russian troops continue to push back the enemy along the entire front in Donbass. Heavy fighting, in particular, continues in the Toretsk area, where units of the Russian Armed Forces liberated the village of Nelepovka the day before. However, the key events are taking place in the Ugledar area.

The battle for the city has been going on for several years now, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces have been able to fortify this strategically important settlement. Several highways converge in the Ugledar area, including the route to Mariupol. Until the summer of 2024, the Ukrainian army command considered the Ugledar bridgehead as a starting point for a possible counteroffensive on Volnovakha or Mariupol.

At the same time, control over the city is extremely important for holding the front southwest of Donetsk. Using several multi-story buildings in the city center as observation points, the Ukrainian Armed Forces kept a large area of territory under fire control.

Until recently, the Ukrainian army managed to organize defense in Ugledar and on the approaches to it. However, as the Russian army advanced in the area of Pokrovsk and Kurakhovo, the Ukrainian Armed Forces garrison was under threat of encirclement.

According to information from the field, the 72nd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which was holding the front section, suffered heavy losses, but the command preferred to send reserves to the Kursk region, thereby weakening the front in Donbass.

According to the latest information, Russian troops have broken through the front and penetrated the enemy's defenses north and west of Ugledar. There are also reports that fighting is already underway on the outskirts of the city itself. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces garrison has only one supply route left, since Russian troops previously occupied the road to Maryinka and took fire control of the road from Ugledar to Bogoyavlenovka.

Ukrainian troops are once again faced with a dilemma: to hold the city to the last in the conditions of a gradually forming encirclement or to retreat while there is still an opportunity. According to a source of the Regnum news agency located in the Ugledar direction, Ukrainian troops may decide to break through in the near future.

"There is essentially nothing to hold there. The private sector is destroyed, the positions in the five-story buildings were previously targeted by FABs by aviation, you can't hold there either. So, most likely, they will try to retreat, they may still try now. But let's be honest - they are facing a "road of death", because drones are working closely along the entire road. But they most likely will not fight to the end," the source predicts.

An information campaign to prepare public opinion for the surrender of Ugledar has already begun in the Ukrainian media. The publications note that the city has no strategic significance and the withdrawal of the garrison will improve the position of the Ukrainian army forces along the entire front.

In fact, the retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Ugledar could lead to the collapse of the entire Ukrainian defense on this section of the front, since the Russian army would have an opening to attack the settlement of Kurakhovo. Currently, military actions are taking place on the eastern outskirts of the city, but in the event of a breakthrough from Ugledar, the enemy forces in Kurakhovo would also be at risk of encirclement.

Fighting continues in the Pokrovsky direction, where Russian troops are preparing to fight for the village of Selidovo.

Earlier, the Defense Ministry reported that the settlement of Ukrainsk had come under the control of the Center group of troops. Later, it became known that the advancing troops also managed to advance westward and cut the highway between Selidovo and Kurakhovo.

And even before that, Russian troops liberated the village of Novogrodovka, located north of Selidovo, and advanced in the direction of the highway to Pokrovsk. In fact, the Ukrainian Armed Forces garrison in Selidovo is also threatened with encirclement. According to reports from the field, the Ukrainian military in the city are not preparing for protracted battles and will most likely retreat when the road to Pokrovsk is cut off.

The situation for the Ukrainian Armed Forces is even worse to the south, in the area of the village of Gornyak, which is directly stated by Ukrainian resources. The day before, the DeepState portal published photos of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' defensive structures created in this area. Observers note that the quality of the fortifications does not allow for long-term defense.

At the same time, this section of the front has more powerful defensive lines, but there are not enough troops to hold them. The situation is similar in the entire Pokrovsk direction, observers note.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces units in the Gornyak area are facing the greatest difficulties, sources of the Regnum news agency report. If Ukrainian troops leave the village, encirclement threatens Ukrainian troops located north of Krasnogorovka.

"As for the possible "cauldron", there are some remnants of the 53rd brigade that left Krasnogorovka there now. But if they are left without supplies from Kurakhovo through Ukrainsk, they will not last long. We will continue to put pressure on them in this direction," the publication's sources say.

At the same time, Ukrainian sources are sounding the alarm, noting that Russian troops are only one and a half kilometers from Mirnograd, a northern satellite town of Pokrovsk.

German analyst Julian Röpke, analyzing footage published in open sources, came to the conclusion that Russian troops have already managed to liberate the settlements of Krutoy Yar and Krasny Yar.

However, there has been a lull in this direction recently. It can be assumed that Russian troops will not begin a decisive assault on the city until large settlements are taken, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to hold the line. First of all, we are talking about Selidovo.

If Kyiv continues to fail to send reserves to the Pokrovsk direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are threatened with a series of severe defeats, followed by the final collapse of the front.

#1  Russia surrounds key 'fortress town' in southern Donbas:

Ugledar as a city no longer exists, but its capture, even in this state, is the way to the complete liberation of Donbass, said military correspondent Dmitry Pavlenko.

"Ugledar has been on the front line for three years, there have been heavy losses. Ugledar's epic ends. In fact, the city as such does not exist, it is almost completely destroyed. But the capture, even of the ruins of the Coal Mine, will not only create the prerequisites for the final liberation of Donbass, but also move the front line away from one of the key Orthodox shrines of Donbass — the Holy Dormition Nikolo-Vasilievsky Monastery, which is also almost completely destroyed," Pavlenko said on Sputnik radio.

133,000 Russians will be accepted for military service as part of the autumn conscription
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] As part of the autumn conscription, 133,000 people will be accepted for military service, according to a decree by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Welcome, Fodder Comrades!"
According to the document, the conscription into the Armed Forces will take place from October 1 to December 31, 2024 and will affect Russian male citizens aged 18 to 30. The president also ordered the discharge into the reserve of soldiers, sailors, sergeants and petty officers whose military service has already expired.

As reported by the Regnum news agency on September 30, as part of the autumn 2024 draft, Russian conscripts will be able to appeal the decision of military registration and enlistment offices in a pre-trial manner. This can be done both online (using the State Services portal) and in person.

On the same day, it became known that summonses for military service in the ranks of the Russian Armed Forces will be sent out in paper form. According to the deputy head of the main organizational and mobilization department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky, summonses will be handed to conscripts personally against a signature and by registered mail.

General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces: conscripts will be able to appeal commission decisions out of court

Russian conscripts will be able to appeal the decision of military registration and enlistment offices in a pre-trial manner. This was announced on September 30 by Vice Admiral Vladimir Tsimlyansky, Deputy Chief of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

“A special feature of the upcoming conscription campaign will be the possibility for conscripts to appeal decisions made by conscription commissions in a pre-trial manner,” he explained.

Tsimlyansky clarified that conscripts will be able to challenge the decision of the draft boards both online and in person - electronically using the State Services portal or by personally contacting a multifunctional center.

The autumn conscription for military service in the Russian army will start on October 1 and will last until December 31, 2024. In the regions of the Far North, the conscription will be carried out from November 1 to December 31, which is due to the climate features of these regions.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on July 15, the spring conscription of 2024 ended in Russia, with 150,000 people sent to the troops.

The Ministry of Defense noted that the draft boards began work on time, on April 1. The sending of conscripts from assembly points of the subjects of the Russian Federation to the troops began on April 15. As in previous conscription campaigns, young people who arrived at the military commissariats of municipal entities could choose the type and branch of the military for service, taking into account their health and the results of professional psychological selection.

The department clarified that conscripts were not sent to the deployment points of units of the Russian Armed Forces in the new Russian regions - the DPR, LPR, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions - or to participate in the implementation of special military operation tasks there.

In Russia, from July 24, applications from IT specialists for a deferment from military service as part of the autumn draft began to be accepted. Applications could be submitted via the State Services portal until August 6.

Elon Musk's Mars colonisation dream could spawn weak, green-skinned humans
[GEO.TV] Elon Musk's vision of establishing human colonies on Mars in the next 20 years is likely to face substantial challenges as the planet's harsh conditions pose the risk of turning humans green.

Not only that, experts have revealed that the Red Planet's harsh conditons could lead to other significant health risks for humans settling there, despite the SpaceX founder's amibitious timeline to send the first Starship to Mars within the next two years.

In light of the potential risks that Musk's plan may ensue, experts emphasised the formidable obstacles that must be overcome for human survival and prosperity on Mars.

Biologist Dr Scott Solomon, from Rice University in Texas, said that the children born to human settlers on Mars could undergo significant mutations and evolutionary changes, Indy100 reported.

According to Solomon, these changes include weakened muscles, compromised eyesight, greenish pigmentation, and brittle bones, as a result of high radiation and low gravitation forces.

Mars is smaller than Earth in size with 30% less gravity than humans have evolved to live with.

Additionally, the Red Planet lacks a magnetic field and protective ozone layer, leaving the planet open to space radiation, UV and charged particles from the sun and cosmic rays.

Solomon revealed that the impact could see humans mutate at extreme rates just to survive in the new conditions, resulting in a change in skin colour to help cope with radiation.

"Perhaps in the face of this high radiation, we might evolve some new type of skin pigment to help us deal with that radiation," Solomon explained in his book, 'Future Humans'. "Maybe we get our own green men."
We already have a skin pigment to cope with radiation: melanin. We reduced it to deal with lower UV levels in latitudes far north of our native Africa — those naturally paler people develop suntans when exposed to higher levels of sunlight. On the other hand, having chlorophyl as well as melanin would be pretty cool — like having solar panels as well as a natural gas furnace.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Ahmadinejad: 'Head of anti-Mossad unit - was a Mossad agent'
I don’t even care if it’s true. It’s just falling-down funny that he said it. Also, now everyone else who has an anti-Mossad section is going to be very concerned about whether they really know Uncle Ahmed’s grandson as well as they thought they did.
[IsraelNationalNews] In an interview with the Turkish CNN network on Monday, former President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, claimed that a unit had been set up to fight against Mossad agents inside Iran — but the head of the unit was a Mossad agent himself.

He also claimed that in addition to the head of the unit, twenty Israeli Mossad agents were working with him and were responsible for directing significant intelligence operations inside Iran.

Among others, according to Ahmadinejad, the same Mossad agents stole documents about the Iranian nuclear program and killed several Iranian nuclear scientists.

He also claimed that all the agents managed to flee Iran before being caught and that they now live in Israel.
Sigh of relief: agent SAK is safe!
Ahmadinejad made this claim today for the first time, but as of now, no confirmation or, alternatively, a denial has been published by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

In recent years, Ahmadinejad has been far from the helm of power and has tried several times to run again for the position of president of Iran, but was disqualified.

The last time he ran an election campaign was after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a plane crash.

Procopius2k has a link he titled Just when you thought it couldn't get more interesting, which led me to the tweet below. If anyone can translate the Turkish, that would be grand:

Iran condemns Zionist attacks on Yemeni fuel tanks in Hodeidah
[HODHODYEMENNEWS.NET] The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, condemned the Zionist entity's attacks on fuel tanks and the power station at the Port of Hodeidah.

Kanaani described these brutal attacks, which resulted in the destruction of the civilian infrastructure of the Port of Hodeidah in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
, as a reflection of the inhumane nature of the Zionist entity.

''The crimes of the Zionist entity are carried out under the unconditional support of the American regime, and Washington is a full partner in the crimes committed by the criminal gang ruling in Tel Aviv,'' he added. ''The supporters of this entity, including the US government, are directly responsible for the serious and unforeseen consequences of the continued Zionist crimes in Paleostine and Leb
...an Iranian satrapy currently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, as well as the aggressive and reckless attacks on Yemen.''

Kanaani further explained that the Zionist entity's attacks on Yemen, as well as on the country's civilian and service infrastructure, constitute a flagrant and repeated violation of the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Charter and international norms.

In conclusion, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson once again warned of the consequences of the Zionist entity's actions in provoking wars and threatening regional and international peace and security.

FSB prevents series of terrorist attacks against law enforcement officers in Ingushetia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Federal Security Service officers prevented a series of terrorist attacks against law enforcement officers in Ingushetia. This was reported on September 30 by the Public Relations Center (PRC) of the FSB of Russia.

Also, according to the department, the criminals were planning a series of acts of sabotage at energy facilities.

The illegal activities of eight local residents, citizens of the Russian Federation, were stopped by security forces as a result of measures taken in the cities of Magas and Nazran.

“During the arrest, one criminal offered armed resistance and received injuries incompatible with life; the rest were arrested,” the department clarified.

The security forces conducted searches at the addresses of the detainees and in equipped hiding places and caches. In them they found a homemade explosive device with a capacity of about 10 kg in TNT equivalent, a grenade launcher, machine guns, pistols, grenades with fuses, as well as more than 8,500 cartridges of various calibers.

Investigators opened criminal cases against the suspects under articles of the Russian Criminal Code on preparation for sabotage, illegal arms trafficking, and illegal manufacture of explosive devices.

Trump assassination attempt: Secret Service to face new lawsuit over DEI quota
[FoxNews] The proposed lawsuit against the Secret Service takes aim at a reported agency goal to reach a 30% female workforce.

A nonprofit defending women's issues plans to sue the U.S. Secret Service for what it alleges is an "arbitrary" diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) initiative that harms female employees.

The proposed lawsuit from the Independent Women's Forum (IWF) comes more than two months after some pointed fingers at female USSS agents assigned to former President Trump's detail at his July 13 presidential campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a 20-year-old shooter gained access to a nearby rooftop and shot at Trump with an automatic rifle.

"In our country, it is illegal for the government to discriminate on the basis of sex. That is the Constitution's 14th Amendment," May Mailman, director of the group's Independent Women's Law Center, told Fox News Digital. "But also Title VII prohibits employers from discriminating on the basis of sex. And yet you have the Secret Service, of all agencies, saying that they want to have a 30% female quota."

A Secret Service spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the agency does not comment on pending litigation matters.

The accusations mark an escalation in tensions between Abu Dhabi and Khartoum. Sudanese military leaders have accused the UAE of fuelling the conflict by providing military support to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

''The Sudanese Armed Forces condemn and deny the accusation by the United Arab Emirates of bombing the residence of its ambassador in Khartoum,'' an army spokesperson said in a statement on Monday morning.

The army does not target diplomatic missions, U.N. or aid organizations, nor use them as military bases or loot them, the spokesperson said, adding that the ''Terrorist militia of the Daglo rebels'' was responsible for such acts. The statement further said these rebels are supported by countries known to the world.

The military front man said it targets only locations where the militia is present, which it said was its right to defend the Sudanese state.

The umbrella group for Iraq's resistance factions said in statements issued on Sunday night that it had targeted a vital target in the occupied port city of Eilat using drones.

''In continuation of our approach to resisting the occupation, and in support of our people in Paleostine and Lebanon, and in response to the massacres committed by the usurping entity against civilians, including children, women and the elderly, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance® in Iraq today, Sunday 29-09-2024, attacked a vital target in Umm al-Rashrash ''Eilat'' in our occupied lands, using drones,'' one statement said.

The group added that a squadron of drones also struck two other targets in the occupied territories.

Iraq's Islamic resistance said the third operation hit Israeli targets with missiles.

The group stressed that it will continue its anti-Israel operations in support of Paleostinian people in Gaza and Lebanon.

Also on Sunday morning, fighters from the Iraqi anti-terror resistance groups also launched two dronezaps against strategic targets in the southern part of the Israeli-occupied territories.

The Islamic Resistance® grabbed credit for the early Sunday morning attack on the port city of Eilat.

The group noted that it will continue to target and destroy important installations across the occupied lands.

Hours after the drone attack, the Islamic Resistance® announced another strike, saying that it had used unmanned aerial vehicles to hit a vital target in the same Israeli-occupied area.

The Islamic Resistance® in Iraq has been launching attacks on Israeli targets ever since the occupying regime started the genocidal war on Gaza in early October.

The resistance has also been hitting American military bases in Iraq and neighboring Syria in retaliation for Washington's support for the Israeli genocide in Gaza

Latest poliovirus case in Hyderabad takes Pakistan''s tally to 24 this year
[GEO.TV] The total number of polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set. Currently the disease is only found in Pakistain and Afghanistain...
virus cases recorded in Pakistain this year climbed to 24 on Saturday after a two-and-a-half-year-old child from Sindh's Hyderabad was diagnosed with the virus.

According to sources at the National Emergency Operations Centre, the child, hailing from Hyderabad's Neronkot area, was left paralysed by the virus, marking the city's second polio case,.

The latest case in Hyderabad takes the province's total number of children affected by the current poliovirus outbreak to five.

The latest polio case comes a day after authorities had confirmed that a 10-month-old baby girl in district Kohat of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was diagnosed with the virus, marking the northwestern province's second case this year.

The infant from Tehsil Darra Adamkhel had contracted the wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) that left her paralysed on September 12.

Before that, authorities had confirmed that a 30-month-old boy from Pishin, Balochistan

Europe
After election win, Austrian far right seeks path to power through rivals’ blockade
[IsraelTimes] Herbert Kickl led his Freedom Party to win biggest slice of votes, but the 29% he scored requires cooperating with other parties, almost all of whom say they won’t work with him

Austria’s far-right Freedom Party (FPO) must work to clear a path to power after its first ever parliamentary election victory left the anti-establishment outfit needing a partner to form a governing coalition.

The triumph of the Eurosceptic, Russia-friendly FPO on Sunday was another milestone in the recent rise of Europe’s hard right. But the party immediately suffered a stiff reality check.

Facing FPO party leader Herbert Kickl in a television studio after results came in, leaders of the other parties in parliament dismissed his overtures on forming a coalition.

The FPO finished around 2.5 percentage points ahead of Chancellor Karl Nehammer’s conservative People’s Party (OVP) to capture some 29% of the vote — its best result ever — and Kickl accused his rivals of opposing the will of the people.

“Tomorrow there will be a blue Monday and then we will set about turning that 29% into a political reality in this country,” Kickl told supporters on Sunday evening, playing on the fact blue is the color associated with his party.

Kickl, a provocative and polarizing figure allied with Hungarian premier Viktor Orban, offered to negotiate with all other parties in Austria. The FPO’s unexpectedly clear victory risks being hollow if it cannot find a partner.

President Alexander Van der Bellen, a former Greens leader who oversees the formation of governments, urged all parties to hold talks and suggested the process could be drawn out.

Kickl’s win cheered hard-right parties across Europe, where the far-right has made gains in countries including the Netherlands, France and Germany. That growing support could stoke the risk of divisions inside the European Union over key policy areas like the defense of Ukraine against Russia.

Those victories have been no guarantee of power for the far right, however, with other parties eager to deny them.

France’s far-right National Rally won the first round of elections in June only to be frustrated when more moderate parties stood down candidates in the second round, helping the left win the most seats. In the end, the left too lost out when President Emmanuel Macron named a center-right prime minister.

In the Netherlands, nationalist Geert Wilders had to give up his hopes to be prime minister after coming first in an election there, when rivals refused to support a government led by him.

ORBANIZATION
Kickl says he wants to be a “Volkskanzler,” a term Nazis used for Adolf Hitler, though others have also claimed it.

The 55-year-old Kickl has embraced conspiracy theories, claiming de-worming agent ivermectin is effective against COVID-19, as did former US president Donald Trump. He opposes aid to Ukraine and wants sanctions against Russia withdrawn, arguing they hurt Austria more than Moscow.

Supporters say the FPO’s “Austria First” policies will curb illegal immigration and lift the economy. Critics worry it could herald a more authoritarian state.

An FPO victory meant the future of Austria as a democracy was now at stake, said Irene Rubik, a 69-year-old retired civil servant and Greens voter, voicing her concern that the country ran the risk of “Orbanization,” pointing to Hungary’s Orban.

Founded in the 1950s under the leadership of an ex-Nazi lawmaker, the FPO has worked to moderate its image. Voters were drawn by its pledges to restrict asylum and tackle inflation, though their attachment to Kickl appears limited.

Just 2% of FPO voters said he was the main reason for their vote, the lowest of any party leader, a survey by pollster Foresight showed.

The OVP is the sole party that has signaled openness to forming a coalition with the FPO — but Nehammer has ruled out going into government with Kickl. He repeated that on Sunday, and there was no indication Kickl would step aside.

If Kickl cannot assemble a coalition, it could open the door to some form of tie-up involving the OVP and the center-left Social Democrats, the two parties that have dominated the postwar political history of Austria.

The constant characterization of Kickl as a menace and other parties’ refusal to work with him risked strengthening his pitch as an outsider, said political analyst Thomas Hofer.

“Because it’s clear Herbert Kickl only sees this as a confirmation of his anti-system narrative, his anti-establishment narrative,” Hofer said.

France’s Le Pen and her party go on trial on charges of embezzling EU funds
[IsraelTimes] Leader of far-right National Rally denies misappropriating European Parliament funds to pay assistants for political work

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen denied violating any rules as she and her National Rally party and two dozen others went on trial on Monday, accused of embezzling European Parliament funds, in a case that has the potential to derail her political ambitions.

Arriving at the court in Paris, Le Pen said “we have not violated any political and regulatory rules of the European Parliament” and vowed to present “extremely serious and extremely solid arguments” in the trial.

The nine-week trial will be closely watched by Le Pen’s political rivals as she is a strong contender in the race to succeed Emmanuel Macron when the next presidential election takes place in 2027

It comes as a new government dominated by centrists and conservatives just came into office in the wake of June-July legislative elections. Some observers expect the trial could prevent National Rally lawmakers, including Le Pen herself, from fully playing their opposition role in Parliament as they would be busy focusing on the party’s defense.

Since stepping down as party leader three years ago, Le Pen has sought to position herself as a mainstream candidate capable of appealing to a broader electorate. Her efforts have paid off, with the party making significant gains in recent elections at both the European and national levels. But a guilty verdict could seriously undermine her bid to take the Elysee.

The National Rally and 27 of its top officials are accused of having used money destined for EU parliamentary aides to pay staff who instead did political work for the party between 2004 and 2016, in violation of the 27-nation bloc’s regulations. The National Rally was called National Front at the time.

Le Pen, whose party has softened its anti-EU stance in recent years, denies wrongdoing and claims the case is politically driven.

“Parliamentary assistants do not work for the Parliament. They are political assistants to elected officials, political by definition,” she argued in her defense. “You ask me if I can define the tasks I assigned to my assistants; it depends on each person’s skills. Some wrote speeches for me, and some handled logistics and coordination.”

If found guilty, Le Pen and her co-defendants could face up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to 1 million euros ($1.1 million) each. Additional penalties, such as the loss of civil rights or ineligibility to run for office, could also be imposed, a scenario that could hamper, or even destroy, Le Pen’s goal to mount another presidential bid after Macron’s term ends. Le Pen was runner-up to Macron in the 2017 and 2022 presidential elections.

She served as party president from 2011 to 2021 and now heads the group of RN lawmakers at the French National Assembly.

Despite her denial, her party has already paid back 1 million euros to the European Parliament, the Parliament’s lawyer Patrick Maisonneuve said. Of that amount, 330,000 euros were directly linked to Marine Le Pen’s alleged misuse of funds.

A LONGSTANDING CONTROVERSY
The legal proceedings stem from a 2015 alert raised by Martin Schulz, then-president of the European Parliament, to French authorities about possible fraudulent use of European funds by members of the National Front.

Schulz also referred the case to the European Anti-Fraud Office, which launched a separate probe into the matter.

The European Parliament’s suspicions were further heightened when a 2015 organizational chart showed that 16 European lawmakers and 20 parliamentary assistants held official positions within the party — roles unrelated to their supposed duties as EU parliamentary staff.

A subsequent investigation found that some assistants were contractually linked to different MEPs than the ones they were actually working for, suggesting a scheme to divert European funds to pay party employees in France.

Alexandre Varault, a spokesperson for the National Rally who was elected to the European Parliament in June, told The Associated Press that Le Pen will attend the first day of the trial, adding that he hopes for the acquittal of all the defendants.

MISUSE OF PUBLIC FUNDS
Investigating judges concluded that Le Pen, as party leader, orchestrated the allocation of parliamentary assistance budgets and instructed MEPs to hire individuals holding party positions. These individuals were presented as EU parliamentary assistants, but in reality, were allegedly working for the National Rally in various capacities.

The European Parliament’s legal team is seeking 2.7 million euros ($3 million) in compensation for financial and reputational damages. This figure corresponds to the 3.7 million ($4.1 million) euros allegedly defrauded through the scheme, minus the 1 million euros already paid back.

During the 2014 European elections, the National Front won a record 24 MEP seats, finishing first with 24.8 percent of the vote, ahead of the center-right and the Socialists. This surge resulted in a substantial financial windfall for the party, which faced severe financial problems at the time.

An audit of the party’s accounts between 2013 and 2016 revealed that it was running a deficit of 9.1 million euros by the end of 2016. Yet, the party still had a cash balance of 1.7 million euros and had lent 1 million euros to Le Pen’s 2017 presidential campaign, while also holding 87,000 euros in loans to Cotelec, its funding association.

At the time, the party was also indebted to a Russian bank for 9.4 million euros, a loan taken out in 2014 for 6 million euros.

SUSPECTED SYSTEMIC PRACTICE
The investigation uncovered many irregularities involving prominent party members.

Thierry Légier, the long-time bodyguard of Le Pen’s father Jean-Marie, was listed as his parliamentary assistant. However his resume did not reference this role, and he made no mention of it in his 2012 autobiography. Légier admitted during the investigation that he was not interviewed and signed his employment contract without fully understanding his official role.

Jean-Marie Le Pen, who led the National Front from 1972 to 2011, will not appear in court alongside his former colleagues due to health concerns. Now 96, he was deemed unfit to testify by a court in June. He has 11 prior convictions, including for violence against a public official and hate speech.

He has denied wrongdoing during his time as party leader, stating that the “pool” of assistants was common knowledge. “I did not choose which assistants were assigned to me. That was decided by Marine Le Pen and others. I only signed the contracts,” he said.

UNRWA chief says he did not know a suspended teacher was Hamas’s leader in Lebanon
Responding to this story from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] The head of the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) on Monday denied knowing that its employee Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin was a Hamas commander in Lebanon, and called on states to push back against Israeli attacks on the agency’s reputation.

The head of Hamas’s Lebanon branch, Abu el-Amin, was killed along with family members in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, the Palestinian terror group said on Monday. A statement from the terror group identified him as a “successful teacher and excellent [school] principal.”

The Palestinian Refugees Portal news site reported in early June that Sherif was set to be reinstated, citing a press release from a Damascus-based group representing Palestinian refugees in Syria and Lebanon that said an arrangement had been found to drop the probe and end the teacher strike.
He was suspended from his job at UNRWA in March following allegations concerning his politics, Philippe Lazzarini told reporters in Geneva.

“The specific allegation at the time was that [he was] a part of the local leadership… I never heard the word commander before,” he said. “What’s obvious for you today, was not obvious yesterday.”

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said el-Amin had been on administrative leave without pay since March — “as soon as UNRWA received information about his possible involvement with Hamas at a senior level” — and had never been reinstated.

“As soon as information was received — in this case, from the Israeli government — action was taken,” Dujarric told reporters. “Every time UNRWA has received information beyond just a name, action has been taken.”

“Anyone who works for the UN and engages in terror, terror-like activity is unacceptable and outrageous and an insult to all UN staff members around the world,” he said.
He said with a *wink*
In a statement to the Times of Israel, UNRWA said Sherif was undergoing an investigation following allegations that UNRWA received about his “political activities.”

Lazzarini, who briefed the press after meeting with UN member states earlier on Monday, said he asked them to “push back on all the reputation attack on the agency and the ongoing drafting of bills which could be adopted in Jerusalem.”

He was referring to a move by Israeli parliament to declare the organization a “terrorist body,” which has already received preliminary approval. Such a move would be “absolutely unconscionable,” he added.

UNRWA has been in hot water for the past year over evidence of members’ involvement in terror activities. Israel has alleged that at least 12 of UNRWA’s employees were directly involved in Hamas’s October 7 atrocities, another 30 assisted or facilitated those crimes, and as much as 12 percent of the organization’s staff in Gaza — over 1,000 people — are affiliated with terror organizations.

According to the military, Sherif was responsible for coordinating Hamas’s activity in Lebanon with Hezbollah, as well as Hamas’s “force build-up efforts in Lebanon, in the field of recruiting operatives and procuring weapons.”

Sherif’s suspension in March sparked demonstrations and strikes by teachers demanding his reinstatement.

The Palestinian Refugees Portal news site reported in early June that Sherif was set to be reinstated, citing a press release from a Damascus-based group representing Palestinian refugees in Syria and Lebanon that said an arrangement had been found to drop the probe and end the teacher strike.

A “commitment” was reached “not to prosecute any employee on the basis of his national affiliation,” according to the press release.

Israel has long accused the agency of employing members of Hamas and other terror groups, allowing them to steep future generations in virulent anti-Israel ideology.

While UNRWA provides education, health, and aid to millions of Palestinians in Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, Israel has also accused multiple agency staffers of taking part in the Hamas-led attack on October 7, in which some 1,200 people in Israel were killed and 251 taken hostage.

Several donor countries cut aid to the agency after Israel provided evidence that employees took part in Hamas’s October 7 massacre. Many, however, have since reinstated their support, citing the dire need in Gaza.

During its operations in Gaza, the IDF found a Hamas data center located directly beneath UNRWA headquarters in Gaza City, in addition to numerous findings indicating the use of the agency’s assets for terror purposes.

The UN acknowledged in August that nine UNRWA staff may have been involved in the Hamas October attacks and fired them.

UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East) was established in 1949 and provides relief to Palestinians considered refugees across the Middle East, including in Lebanon where it says up to 250,000 reside.

The only UN refugee agency established for a specific people, it has come under criticism for bestowing the status not just on those who lost their homes in 1948, but to all their descendants as well — a practice unheard of elsewhere. Israel and its supporters say this encourages an enduring victimhood mentality and narrative in Palestinians and increases their dependence on aid.

Shin Bet says it’s recently foiled Iranian plots to assassinate Israeli officials
[IsraelTimes] Iran working to recruit Israeli citizens online, security agency says, noting recent arrest of Ashkelon man tasked with killing top official; public urged to stay vigilant

The Shin Bet security agency warned in a statement Monday that Iran has increasingly been attempting to carry out assassinations in Israel, and that some were foiled in very advanced stages, with details not yet made public.

“In recent weeks, the Shin Bet has detected a significant rise in Iran’s efforts to advance assassinations against targets in Israel,” the agency said, adding that Iran has been attempting to recruit Israeli civilians to harm senior officials in the country.

The agency noted the recent arrest of Moti Maman, a 73-year-old Israeli man from the coastal city of Ashkelon, who was smuggled into Iran twice and was tasked with helping to assassinate the prime minister, defense minister, or the head of the Shin Bet.

The agency said Iran has also attempted to recruit Israelis online. The Iranian operatives locate Israeli targets on social media, including channels relating to cryptocurrency, finance, and job searching, the Shin Bet said. The Iranian operatives offer individuals a high salary to carry out various tasks, including “placing money or phones in various areas in Israel, distributing flyers, painting graffiti, and even setting fire to cars and physically harming people,” according to the Shin Bet.

The Shin Bet in recent months has announced a series of alleged Iranian plots, in which Iran tried to trick Israelis online into carrying out missions for Tehran, including a scheme uncovered in January in which Israelis were allegedly recruited to gather intelligence on high-profile figures.

It was also announced earlier this month that Hezbollah, the Iranian terror proxy in Lebanon, had sought to assassinate former defense minister and IDF chief of staff Moshe Ya’alon in a bomb attack in Tel Aviv’s Yarkon Park last September that did not cause any injuries.

The announcement of that Hezbollah plot came shortly before the terror group came under waves of attack, as operatives’ pagers and other communications devices exploded, in an assault widely blamed on Israel. This was followed by weeks of intensive strikes that largely wiped out Hezbollah’s leadership, including chief Hassan Nasrallah in a massive airstrike Friday in a suburb of Beirut.

The Shin Bet said Monday that it “asks the public to pay increased attention and take extra caution in any case where suspicion arises… especially when the sums involved are large and are not suited to the nature of the requested tasks, or… if the requested tasks are unusual.” It asked to report any such suspicious activity to authorities.

Dagestan native convicted of attempting to join ISIS
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[KavkazUzel] The court sentenced Imam Gadzhimuradov, a native of the village of Novogagatli, to three years in prison, finding him guilty of attempting to travel to Syria to join the militants of the Islamic State*.

According to investigators, in January 2023, 26-year-old Imam Gadzhimuradov, a native of the village of Novogagatli in the Khasavyurt district of Dagestan, checked in at the airport for a flight to the territory controlled by the Islamic State, an international terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court. A border control officer later told the investigator that Gadzhimuradov's appearance and behavior indicated his possible involvement with terrorists.

Gadzhimuradov was detained at the airport. He later told the investigator that at the last moment he refused to board the flight and decided to return home. He specified that he planned to go to Syria.

The Southern District Military Court found Gadzhimuradov guilty of attempting to participate in an illegal armed group and sentenced him to three years in prison. Gadzhimuradov's defense appealed the sentence, but the Supreme Court of Russia upheld it, according to the case file published on the court's website.

There were no comments from representatives of Imam Gadzhimuradov.

'America's worst mayor' Tiffany Henyard and her boyfriend are served with eviction notice
[Daily Mail, Where America Gets Its News] Controversial mayor Tiffany Henyard and her boyfriend are reportedly being evicted from their home in Dolton, Illinois.

An eviction notice was filed against Henyard and her boyfriend, Kamal Woods, in Cook County Court.

They are said to owe over $3,300 in rent payments for their home on the 14600 block of South Harvard.

The document also alleges that Henyard, 41, has refused to have the property inspected.

The mayor's attorney told FOX32 that this information is untrue and that the couple has no outstanding rent payments.

This controversy comes after Henyard threw an $85,000 party for her town earlier this month even though she has been cut off from spending by the state for sinking her town into debt.
