Somalia Graduates Elite DANAB Commandos in Bid to Bolster Security
Because we were discussing the Somalia National Army’s DANAB Commandos the other day.
[ShabelleMedia] President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, alongside Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohammed Nur, presided over a significant military ceremony at the Colonel Hassan Tuurre Academy in Balidogle.

The event marked the graduation of a new cohort of DANAB Commandos, a pivotal elite force in Somalia’s ongoing efforts against insurgency.

During the ceremony, President Mohamud commended the graduates for their dedication and unwavering commitment. "Your training and resolve are not just steps towards personal achievement, but they are strides towards the liberation of our nation from the grip of our enemies," the President stated, emphasizing the strategic importance of the DANAB Commandos in combating threats to national security.

Minister Nur echoed the President’s sentiments, highlighting the vital role these commandos play. "These men and women are not just soldiers; they are the vanguard of our country’s future, securing peace and enabling development," Nur said, addressing the graduates.

The graduation comes at a critical time as Somalia continues to battle against al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
, with these elite forces being at the forefront of many successful operations. The ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of the new commandos but also reinforced the government’s commitment to enhancing military capabilities and ensuring national stability.

The ceremony was attended by military officials, government dignitaries, and foreign military advisors, underscoring the international support for Somalia’s efforts in stabilizing the region. The event concluded with a military parade, showcasing the prowess of the newly graduated commandos.

Multiple explosions heard in Rojava’s Qamishli
[Rudaw] Three explosions have been reported in Qamishli city, northeast Syria (Rojava) late on Wednesday, injuring at least one person.

Local security forces have yet to comment and there are few details immediately available.

"Three shells of unknown sources" were fired at Qamishli, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), which relies on a network of sources on the ground.

At least one of the blasts was heard near Qamishli airport, ANHA news outlet reported, adding that one civilian was injured.

Ronahi TV, a broadcaster affiliated with the Kurdish authorities, described the earth-shattering kabooms as "powerful."

Ottoman Turkish drones often strike parts of Rojava on the grounds of targeting the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK). Ankara also claims that local security forces are linked to the gang.

The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
has not grabbed credit for Wednesday’s explosions.

The blasts occurred days after internal security forces (Asayish) carried out raids across Hasaka province, arresting 54 people accused of robbery, theft and murder.

The Asayish also cordoned off regime-controlled parts of Hasaka for unknown reasons, according to SOHR.

Qamishli is located in Hasaka province.

Head of CBS parent says ‘a mistake’ to rebuke host for Ta-Nehisi Coates interview
[IsraelTimes] Shari Redstone expresses support for Tony Dokoupil, while top officials at network back news chief who criticized him over pointed questioning of author of new anti-Israel book.
Instapundit was all over the previous stages of this story yesterday. See here and here. M. Dokoupil’s CBS colleagues and managers were appalled that he committed reporting while interviewing Ta-Nehisis Coates’s for CBS.
An internal debate over CBS News host Tony Dokoupil’s pointed interview with author Ta-Nehisi Coates about Israel has spread to the boardroom, with the chief of the network’s parent company saying Wednesday that it was a mistake to reprimand him.
Whoops!
Shari Redstone, outgoing head of Paramount Global, expressed support for Dokoupil while speaking at a conference sponsored by Advertising Age on Wednesday. CBS News leaders on Monday had reprimanded Dokoupil, a "CBS Mornings" host for an interview they said didn’t meet their standards.

"I think we made a mistake," Redstone said, according to published reports.

Later Wednesday, CBS network President and CEO George Cheeks issued a supportive statement for Wendy McMahon, the boss of CBS News, who was involved in criticizing the interview.

"There has been strong and growing discord within CBS News that needed to be addressed in an editorial meeting," Cheeks said. "This must lead to further substantive dialogue about perceptions of inconsistent treatment, implicit bias and the important standards our News division has in place to establish guardrails for fairness and objectivity."

The seven-minute morning show interview on September 30 was about Coates’ new book of essays, and Dokoupil zeroed in right away on a section about Israel and Paleostinians in the West Bank, saying the essay "would not be out of place in the backpack of an hard boy." He wondered why Coates’ writing did not include references to Israel being surrounded by enemies that want to eliminate the country.

"Is it because you just don’t believe that Israel in any condition has a right to exist?" he asked.

Coates said there was no shortage of places where Israel’s viewpoint is represented, and that he wanted to speak for those who don’t have a voice.

"I wrote a 260-page book," Coates said. "It is not a treatise on the entirety of the conflict between the Israelis and the Paleostinians."

Dokoupil later asked Coates about what offended him about the existence of a Jewish state, and he said that Paleostinians "exist in your narrative merely as victims of Israel," as if they had not been offered peace in any juncture.

Coates said that he was offended when anyone — including the Paleostinians who talked to him for his book — are treated as second-class citizens in the country where they live, comparing it to the Jim Crow-era United States where his ancestors grew up.

In the staff call on Monday, CBS News chief Wendy McMahon and her deputy, Adrienne Roark, said several journalists in the company had reached out to them about the interview.

"There are times we have not met our editorial standards," Roark said, citing Dokoupil’s interviews and other comments made by CBS personnel that she did not identify.

CBS News is built on a "foundation of neutrality," she said. "Our job is to serve our audience without bias or perceived bias."

She said that the problems had been addressed, but neither she nor CBS explained what this meant.

McMahon told staff members on the call that she expected its contents would remain confidential. But a tape of it was posted within hours on The Free Press news site.

Dokoupil did not immediately return messages seeking comment. A front man for Coates did not return a message.

Dokoupil is one of three "CBS Mornings" hosts, along with Gayle King and Nate Burleson. All three participated in the interview with Coates, but with the exception of an opening question by Burleson and a brief one at the end by King, it was dominated by Dokoupil.

Dokoupil is married to NBC News journalist Katy Tur. He has two children from a previous marriage who both live with their mother in Israel. In the wake of the October 7, 2023, Hamas

attack, Dokoupil said on the show that, "as a father, I think people can understand if somebody, anybody, is firing rockets in the direction of your children without regard to whether they are struck or not, you’re going to feel a thing or two."

The rebuke by CBS management Monday came on the first anniversary of the Hamas attack.

Management received immediate pushback on the call from Jan Crawford, CBS News’ chief legal correspondent, who said that it’s a journalist’s obligation to ask tough questions when somebody comes on the air to present a one-sided view.

"I don’t see how we can say that failed to meet our editorial standards," Crawford said. She said she worried that it would make her think twice when conducting interviews.

Two killed in Kiryat Shmona, several hurt in Haifa as Hezbollah rockets batter north
[IsraelTimes] Military says 3 troops seriously wounded in southern Lebanon fighting, but touts drone strike on operatives who killed paratrooper last week; 185 Hezbollah sites targeted from air

Two people were killed in a rocket attack on the border town of Kiryat Shmona Wednesday, as Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets into northern Israel and military forces aimed heavy air and ground fire at the Lebanese terror group.

The pair of fatalities, which marked the first deadly attack on civilians since fighting between Israel and Leb

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? intensified late last month, came on a day that also saw five people injured in a large rocket barrage on Haifa.

In southern Lebanon, Israeli troops continued to carry out raids, engaging in close combat with Hezbollah forces and carrying out strikes from the air, including against operatives who killed an officer last week, the Israel Defense Forces said. Three soldiers were seriously injured in fighting over the past day, according to the IDF.

Hezbollah took responsibility for the strikes Wednesday, including a volley on Kiryat Shmona early Wednesday afternoon that it claimed had targeted "enemy forces" mustering outside the Galilee Panhandle city.

According to the IDF, some 20 projectiles were fired at the Kiryat Shmona area from Lebanon in the attack, with an unspecified number impacting inside Israel.

The two victims, who were not immediately named, were identified in Hebrew-language media as a civilian couple who had been walking their dogs and were unable to reach a shelter in time. Medics declared the two dead at the scene, according to the Magen David Adom rescue service, which said the pair had been in their 40s. The pair were the first civilians killed in Hezbollah rocket attacks since early August, when a student visiting his family was fatally struck by an errant interceptor missile.

The Kiryat Shmona attack, which also sparked a number of fires in the city, was one of several major bombardments to batter Israeli cities over Wednesday.

At least 40 more rockets were fired at Haifa from Lebanon early Wednesday afternoon, the IDF said, and rockets also rained on other cities across the Galilee, including Safed, which appeared to come under major attack before 5 p.m. A 16-year-old boy was moderately injured by shrapnel from the Haifa attack, MDA said, while four others in their 40s and 50s were hospitalized with minor injuries.

At least one rocket impacted in the Haifa suburb of Kiryat Bialik, causing power outages in the city.

Earlier in the day, air defenses intercepted two missiles launched from Lebanon at the Carmel region south of Haifa. The attack triggered rare sirens in cities in Israel’s northern coastal plain, including Caesarea and Zichron Yaakov.

Hezbollah has lobbed over 3,000 rockets at Israel’s north — and in some cases beyond — since Israel launched an offensive on September 23 aimed at removing the terror group from southern Lebanon following a year of near-daily cross border attacks. Israel says it is seeking to make it safe for some 60,000 people displaced by the Hezbollah attacks since October 2023 to return home, including by eliminating the threat of a Hamas-style cross-border rampage it alleges Hezbollah had planned to unleash on northern towns.

The Israeli military said it has dismantled Hezbollah infrastructure along the border and killed hundreds of Hezbollah fighters. It has also carried out Arclight airstrike

s deeper inside Lebanon, including an attack on a coastal town near Sidon that Lebanon said killed four people Wednesday. It did not say if the four were civilians or combatants.

The IDF said Wednesday three soldiers had been seriously maimed in the fighting in southern Lebanon over the last 24 hours: an NCO and a reservist from the Military Intelligence Directorate’s Unit 504 seriously hurt on Tuesday and a soldier from the Alon Brigade’s 8207th Battalion seriously injured on Wednesday.

Four divisions have been deployed along a narrow strip along the border in southern Lebanon, with the army saying Tuesday that operations were expanding toward the west.

During the past day of fighting in southern Lebanon, several Hezbollah button men were killed and weapons and rocket launchers were uncovered by ground troops, the military said in a statement. In one village, paratroopers found hundreds of weapons and a 7-meter-deep bunker.

Overnight airstrikes hit around 185 Hezbollah sites, the army said, including a weapons factory and intelligence command center located amid civilian sites in the southern Beirut suburb known as Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold. Other targets included sites where cells of operatives were gathered, observation posts, rocket launchers and weapons depots, the IDF said.

The army released footage of a dronezap that it said killed two Hezbollah operatives who had killed Cpt. Ben Zion Falach, 21, of the Paratroopers Brigade’s 202nd Battalion, during an exchange of fire in southern Lebanon on October 2.

The IDF did not specify when the airstrike took place.

Another operative was killed in an exchange of fire in a building, the IDF added.

Since October 8, 2023, 33 IDF soldiers and reservists have been killed in cross-border skirmishes and in the ensuing ground operation launched in southern Lebanon.

Two soldiers in northern Israel have been killed in a drone attack from Iraq, and there have also been several attacks from Syria, without any injuries.

— who have been killed by Israel during the war, mostly in Lebanon but also some in Syria. Lebanon says over 1,300 people have been killed in Israel’s offensive and over a million people displaced.

Israel says at least 440 Hezbollah operatives have been killed since it launched the offensive in September alone.

German police close anti-Israel protest camp Greta Thunberg planned to visit
[IsraelTimes] German police say they have dissolved an anti-Israel protest camp in the western city of Dortmund after organizers told them that Swedish activist Greta "Pippi" Thunberg
...an autistic sixteen year old Swedish expert on climate change, though I guess she's older now...
was planning to visit the camp.

Dortmund police says the decision last night was made, among other reasons, because Thunberg’s appearance would probably have drawn more people to the protest camp than originally permitted.

The dismantling of the camp, which has been in existence for months, was accepted without resistance, police says. Seven protesters were present at the camp yesterday, but Thunberg did not appear, German news agency dpa reports.

On Monday, Thunberg participated in an anti-Israel protest in Berlin.
Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Wednesday accused German police of overly heavy-handed tactics in breaking up a pro-Palestinian camp ahead of her planned visit.

WHAT THUNBERG SAID ABOUT THE POLICE
"Police said they would arrest me if I went there," Thunberg tweeted on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. "All this just because the students had invited me to speak at their event, and I had been to a [pro-Palestinian] protest in Berlin the day before that police has stormed.

"Germany is threatening and silencing activists who speak out against the genocide and occupation," she said.

Thunberg has repeatedly expressed her solidarity with Palestinians and accused Israel of genocide in recent months.

POLICE CITE FEARS OF VIOLENCE
Police said they had taken down the camp, which had been in place for several months, in a peaceful manner, with seven protesters present.

"After an intensive examination in the context of a risk assessment, the Dortmund police headquarters ordered the ban and the associated dissolution of the gathering," the police statement said.

Dortmund police initially said the decision was taken because Thunberg was a "potentially violent participant" in the protest.

Authorities later retracted this statement and, when asked, said there had been an "internal error."

The dismantling of the camp comes after a pro-Palestinian protest in Berlin saw bottles being thrown at police and journalists attacked, with Thunberg being present at the protest.

The decision comes a day after the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel, with the previous day marked by numerous pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrations across Germany.

ARRESTED IN BELGIUM PROTEST
Thunberg was detained by Belgian police at a climate demonstration in Brussels on Saturday, the latest in a string of arrests.

The 21-year-old joined a sit-in blockade with around 150 other activists on Saturday afternoon, the Belgian news agency Belga reported, before she was detained by police together with more than 100 other protesters.

The demonstrators had been calling for an end to subsidies for fossil fuels.

Thunberg became known worldwide for her "school strike for the climate," and her protest action gave rise to the international climate movement Fridays for Future.

Since the Islamist attack on Israel a year ago and with Israel's subsequent military action in the Gaza Strip, the Swede has regularly attended pro-Palestinian rallies.

Critics have accused Thunberg of taking a one-sidedly pro-Palestinian stance during the war in Gaza and the attack that triggered it.

At the protest in Brussels, she wore a keffiyeh — the chequered scarf that has become a symbol of Palestinian solidarity.

IDF chief says Hezbollah is trying to cover up its immense losses: in past ten days over 1100 airstrikes and over 500 infrastructure targets and tunnels destroyed
[IsraelTimes] IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi says the Hezbollah terror group is trying to hide its losses amid intensive fighting and Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon.

“Hezbollah is trying to hide the significant harm we have inflicted on the organization in the past weeks,” says Halevi, according to the IDF.

The terror group “is experiencing control and command difficulties, leading to confusion at the decision-making level and challenges in its ability to function,” says the military chief.

Halevi says that “even in Iran they still don’t realize the full damage to the front they built along the northern border.”

Amid reports that the terror group is interested in a ceasefire, Halevi says the IDF will continue to strike at Hezbollah and “not allow it any respite or recovery.”

that were carried out in coordination with ground forces, amid an ongoing offensive against Hezbollah launched at the end of last month, the military says.

These airstrikes, carried out by fighter jets, attack helicopters and drones, have been led by the IAF’s Cooperation Unit 5620, which coordinates operations between the IAF and ground forces during maneuvers.

The targets included cells of Hezbollah button men, weapon depots, tunnels and observation and sniper posts.

According to the IDF, the shortest time to carry out a strike from the moment ground troops called it in was seven minutes, and the closest target to the forces was some 50 meters away.

IDF: Troops in south Lebanon have destroyed more than 500 Hezbollah targets
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says that troops with its 36th division, which deployed in south Lebanon a week ago, have so far destroyed more than 500 Hezbollah infrastructure targets and destroyed underground tunnels.

The troops also destroyed weapons and weapons storage units and “eliminated many terrorists,” the IDF says.

The military releases footage of the division’s troops operating in south Lebanon.
Five short videos can be seen here.

IDF says it struck Hezbollah drone stockpiles yesterday, several Beirut sites overnight
[IsraelTimes] Several Hezbollah drone storage sites were destroyed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon yesterday, the military says.

According to the IDF, the drone caches were located both above and below ground. Additionally, drone launchers that were to be used by Hezbollah were struck.

In a separate strike overnight, the IDF says fighter jets struck a Hezbollah weapons manufacturing plant in Beirut, and a command center belonging to the terror group’s intelligence division.

Before the strike, the IDF issued a warning to civilians in the area.

IDF says 185 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon struck in past day
[IsraelTimes] The Israeli Air Force struck 185 Hezbollah sites in Lebanon, including sites where cells of operatives were gathered, observation posts, rocket launchers and weapon depots.

The IDF says troops continue to battle Hezbollah operatives in southern Lebanon, and several gunmen were killed during the past day in close-quarters combat and in airstrikes.

Weapons and rocket launchers were also found by the troops in southern Lebanon.

US denies Israeli report claiming secret talks with Iran for axis-wide ceasefire
[IsraelTimes] State Department says Washington is not involved in negotiations and is unsure they exist at all, calling Channel 12 claims ‘different than actual diplomatic conversations’

The United States denied an Israeli report Wednesday that it and Arab nations were conducting secret backchannel negotiations with Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. They hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
aimed at reaching a comprehensive regional ceasefire with Israel.

The Channel 12 report, which cited second-hand information from unnamed Israeli sources, claimed covert talks were taking place aimed at reaching an agreement to halt attacks on Israel from Tehran-led proxies, including Hezbollah, that have repeatedly launched missiles and drones at Israel in solidarity with Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
Asked about the report Wednesday, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller flatly denied that Washington had any part in or knew of any such initiative.

"No one has reached out to the United States about such a proposal, and we’re not in talks with not in talks with any countries about such a proposal," Miller said during a press briefing on Wednesday.

"I cannot speak to a hypothetical proposal that I’m not even sure actually exists in reality," Miller added. "Obviously, we would welcome the end of conflict across the region."

He stressed the Channel 12 story "was different than actual diplomatic conversations."

The comments came shortly after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call with US President Joe The Big Guy Biden

Formerly dictatorial and steeped in Olde Tyme Religion, deferring to Salafist holy men on all issues, it has now done a 180 and is making a serious effort to modernize, so as not to be left in the sand by its Gulf Arab neighbors. The holy men have been shoved to the background and the nation is now still dictatorial but somewhat Frational. That doesn't make them trustworthy, but it's a start...
Miller declined to detail if the US was seeking to send any messages to Aracgchi, who is also set to travel to Qatar

, a main mediator in efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. Doha is also the political base for the Hamas terror group, which plunged the region into war when it launched an unprecedented attack on Israel one year ago.

Talks between Biden and Netanyahu were expected to revolve around Israel’s plans to retaliate against Iran for its October 1 ballistic missile attack, amid reports of growing frustration in Washington over Jerusalem’s unwillingness to share details of its intentions.

The US, which has sought to temper Israel’s retaliation, has consistently said it wants to keep the war in Gaza from spilling over into other arenas, but those hopes have withered in recent weeks as Israel and Iranian proxy groups around the Middle East, dubbed the "Axis of Resistance®" by Tehran, have shot it out with increasing intensity.

Formerly inhabited by hardy Phoenecian traders, its official language is now Arabic, with the usual unpleasant side effects. The Leb civil war, between 1975 and 1990, lasted a little over 145 years and produced 120,000 fatalities. The average length of a ceasefire was measured in seconds. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. rebels in retaliation for missile and drone attacks, and has been accused of attacking Iran-backed groups in Syria and Iraq as part of what it has described as a seven-front military engagement.

The Channel 12 report claimed that Israel was not involved in the talks and that it was unclear how they would affect elusive efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

An Israeli official quoted by the channel indicated that Jerusalem was keen to press its military advantage against Hezbollah rather than make concessions in a potential ceasefire deal.

"We are currently in a position of power, a ceasefire will be on our terms, including a [Hezbollah] withdrawal beyond the Litani [River] and the dismantling of all military Hezbollah sites in areas near the border," a senior Israeli official was quoted as saying.

On Wednesday, Channel 12 and the Walla news site reported that Mossad chief David Barnea told his US counterpart that any ceasefire deal with Hezbollah in Lebanon must also include the release of the hostages being held in Hamas.

The reports said the Mossad chief told CIA head Bill Burns that the deals must be linked together. The strategy is reportedly aimed at getting Iran and Hezbollah — who have indicated they are open to a ceasefire in the north — to exert additional pressure on Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar to agree to a deal in Gaza that has proved elusive for many months.

A day earlier, Hezbollah appeared to drop its demand for a truce in Gaza as a condition for reaching a ceasefire in Lebanon, rowing back from an oft-repeated promise to keep up its rocket and drone barrages until Israel halts its offensive against the Lebanese terror group’s Iran-backed ally Hamas.

Hezbollah officials have consistently said they would not stop until Israel ended the conflict in the Strip, but the group has suffered major losses in recent weeks, including airstrikes that have wiped out much of its top leadership.

Naim Qassem
... the Grand Vizier of the Hezbullies...
, the deputy leader of Hezbollah and its top living official, said he backed efforts by Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Knobby Berri

...perennial Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, head of the Amal Shiite party aligned with Hezbollah, a not very subtle sock puppet of the Medes and Persians...
, a Hezbollah ally, to secure a truce — without setting a precondition.

"We support the political activity being led by Berri under the title of a ceasefire," Qassem said. "If the enemy continues its war, then the battlefield will decide."

In a follow-up to Qassem’s speech, Hezbollah issued a statement saying it will "not abandon our support and backing for our steadfast Paleostinian people in the Gaza Strip."

Miller said Tuesday that Hezbollah’s call for a ceasefire showed it was "getting battered."

"For a year, you had the world calling for this ceasefire, you had Hezbollah refusing to agree to one, and now that Hezbollah is on the back foot and is getting battered, suddenly they’ve changed their tune and want a ceasefire," he said. "We continue to ultimately want a diplomatic solution to this conflict."

Virginia Teacher defended by ADF in 'preferred pronouns' lawsuit wins settlement
Looks like those persons, demanding they be addressed by a Pronoun created by their Mental Illness, will need to start counseling to cope with real life. Plus, the schools will need better Security when these persons become unhinged, like we have seen in the past.
[LawEnforcementToday] Former West Point School District high school teacher, Peter Vlaming, who pressed a lawsuit against the board after he was terminated for refusing to use his students' preferred pronouns, won a settlement last week.

According to Fox News, the attorney representing Vlaming told reporters that the $575,000 settlement for the educator had "seismic implications."

Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) President and CEO Kristen Waggoner told the outlet that the legal non-profit is "grateful that, because of this decision, tolerance is now a two‐way street, not a one‐way ratchet for totalitarian ideology." She added, "It protects all teachers in Virginia and its rationale should guide other courts addressing similar issues."

The ADF is reportedly representing other teachers who have faced similar scenarios in other states. Waggoner noted, "No teacher should be fired for living according to their beliefs or protecting their students."

She wrote in a post to X, "No teacher should be fired for living according to their beliefs. But that's exactly what happened to Peter Vlaming. So we sued. And won. This landmark victory protects all teachers in VA and should guide other courts addressing similar issues."

'Spliced'? 60 Minutes Under Fire For Deceptively Editing Kamala Harris Interview; Trump Demands Full Release
[ZERO] CBS has come under fire for deceptively editing Kamala Harris' "60 Minutes" interview - replacing her word-salad answer from a pre-interview teaser with a completely different answer in the version that aired.

When asked by host Bill Whitaker why it seemed like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn't listening to the United States, Harris originally replied:

"Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region."

But in the version that aired, Harris' answer was: "We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end."

The Trump campaign has demanded that the network release the full interview.

IDF Special Forces 'Mista'arvim' went undercover today in Nablus and eliminated four Palestinian terrorists, including Commander Issam al-Salaj
[X]

[IsraelTimes] Local Al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade leader, who reportedly survived June 2023 raid, killed in daylight shooting; Israel said to believe armed suspects were planning terror attack

Undercover Israeli forces opened fire on a car in the West Bank city of Nablus, killing five terror suspects, authorities said Wednesday.

Among those killed in the broad daylight shooting near central Nablus was the long-sought leader of the al-Aqsa Martyr’s Brigade terror group in the nearby Balata refugee camp, according to police. He was named in reports as Issam al-Salaj.

The Israel Police said commandos from the Yamam counter-terror unit had been operating in Nablus when they opened fire on the terror suspects.

"The Yamam forces eliminated five armed bully boyz who posed a threat to their lives," police said.

According to police, the unit had been in Nablus as part of an arrest operation targeting terror suspects, backed by the Israel Defense Forces, Shin Bet security service and Border Police force.

No Israeli forces were maimed, police said.

The Paleostinian health ministry said four men were killed in the raid and a fifth person was hospitalized with bullet shrapnel wounds. His condition was not given.

Footage of the shooting shared on social media appeared to show a small group of undercover officers with automatic rifles opening fire on a car at close range while standing on a busy street, after apparently emerging from another car with Paleostinian plates. Several onlookers could be seen watching the killings.

An unnamed security source quoted by the Kan public broadcaster said the occupants of the car had been high-ranking terror operatives who were planning an attack.

Police did not identify the other wanted Paleostinians, but said they had been "involved in carrying out and planning terror operations against civilians and the IDF."

Salaj had reportedly been the target of a failed June 2023 raid in Nablus, managing to escape with only injuries after a firefight with Israeli forces who had surrounded his home. A Paleostinian teen with mental disabilities was killed during the standoff.

Nablus and the adjacent Balata camp have been one of the several flashpoints in the northern West Bank where Israel has intensified efforts against Paleostinian terror groups.

The raids have largely targeted Hamas

Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. ’s Fatah party.

The shooting came hours after a terrorist stabbed several people in the Israeli city of Hadera, wounding six, in the second major terror attack this week following a deadly shooting in Beersheba on Sunday. In both instances, the perpetrators were Israeli citizens.

According to the PA, more than 716 West Bank Paleostinians have been killed by Israeli troops since October 7, 2023, when the IDF stepped up anti-terror operations.

The IDF says the vast majority of them were button men killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or bully boyz carrying out attacks.

Troops have also arrested some 5,250 wanted Paleostinians across the West Bank, including more than 2,050 affiliated with Hamas.

IDF says Palestinian suspect tried to grab gun from soldier while being treated yesterday

[IsraelTimes] The IDF says a Palestinian suspect was shot yesterday after resisting arrest at the Tarqumiyah crossing from the West Bank into Israel, and that while being treated, he tried to grab a firearm from a soldier. According to the army, IDF forces spotted a suspect at the Tarqumiyah crossing, in the South Hebron hills, and tried to detain him. The man resisted arrest and was shot in the leg as a result.

“While receiving medical treatment due to the shooting, the terrorist tried to grab a gun from the military force that was accompanying him,” but was prevented from so doing, the IDF says.

Türkiye Blocks Access to Discord Following Russia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Access to the Discord messenger in Turkey has been decided to be blocked, said the head of the Turkish Ministry of Justice, Yilmaz Tunc.

“A decision has been made to block access to the social media platform Discord in Turkey,” state television channel TRT haber quotes Tunç as saying.

As reported by IA Regnum, on October 8, Roskomnadzor announced a restriction of access to Discord in Russia. The reason for the blocking is a violation of legal requirements aimed at preventing the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist purposes, recruitment of citizens to commit such crimes, drug sales, as well as in connection with the posting of illegal information.

According to Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, IT and Communications, a social network that does not protect users from destructive content and violates the law cannot continue to operate in Russia. He added that Discord has proven especially convenient for involving teenagers in illegal activities due to the lack of proper moderation.

Germany’s Bild: Beirut correspondent arrested after live interview with Israeli outlet
[IsraelTimes] News site’s team in Lebanon taken from hotel, blindfolded by ‘unknown men,’ after one spoke to Israeli public broadcaster Kan in aftermath of Nasrallah assassination

Germany’s Bild news site said on Wednesday that several of its journalists were arrested in Beirut and taken for questioning the day after Hezbollah leader His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah
...The late, lamented satrap of the Medes and the Persians in Leb...>
’s liquidation and following one correspondent’s live interview with an Israeli broadcaster.

Bild said its correspondent Paul Ronzheimer and his team were taken from their hotel rooms, handcuffed and blindfolded, to an unknown location. It described those who made the arrest as "unknown men," and added that they were said to have been members of Leb

’s military intelligence service.

While the outlet didn’t note the reason for the arrests, Hebrew media said that they came a day after Ronzheimer gave a live TV interview to Israel’s Kan public broadcaster. It was possibly the first live broadcast from Beirut on Israeli television since the IDF withdrew from the Lebanese capital in 1982.

Bild said Ronzheimer was released later the same day, after Germany’s embassy in Beirut contacted Lebanese authorities, who intervened. He then continued reporting but decided to leave Lebanon, only after which Bild revealed the ordeal.

"Regardless of the fact that we were arrested, interrogated and imprisoned, it is currently very difficult for many news hounds to report on what is happening," the report quoted Ronzheimer as saying. "I will of course continue to report on this war," he added.

Ronzheimer said Hezbollah hardly issues permits to journalists anymore, according to the Bild report, adding that Belgian news hounds were also beaten and attacked by Hezbollah supporters in Beirut.

The article added that on the morning of his arrest, Hezbollah distributed photos of Ronzheimer via WhatsApp and accused him of violating conditions.

Hezbollah terror chief Hassan Nasrallah, who led the Iranian-backed terror group through decades of conflict with Israel, was killed in an Israeli Arclight airstrike

in Beirut on September 27.

In Ronzheimer’s interview with Kan, he was asked what Lebanese media reports were saying regarding whether or not Nasrallah is dead, to which the journalist responds that "it’s not clear what has really happened there, if Nasrallah is dead or maimed."

The German foreign ministry had already raised its crisis level for missions in Beirut, Ramallah and Tel Aviv. Nevertheless, its embassies have remained operational.

There are currently 1,800 registered German citizens in Leb, a spokesperson for the German foreign ministry said.

Update from the Times of Israel at 5:30 p.m.ET: After American pressure, Mr. Ronzheimer was deported to the U.S., from which experience he has no doubt learnt absolutely nothing.

6 injured, 2 critically, in terrorist stabbing spree in Hadera
[IsraelTimes] Suspect, an Israeli citizen, rides moped between different sites of his attack, is eventually cornered by armed residents and subdued

Six people were stabbed and injured, two of them critically, in a terror attack on Wednesday in Hadera that spanned four different locations in the central city.

Police said the suspect, who appeared to have acted alone, used a moped to get from one location to the next, attacking people at each place.

The terrorist was then cornered by armed residents until coppers arrived and helped subdue him.

The suspect was later identified by Hebrew-language media as an Arab Israeli resident of Umm al-Fahm.
...home of the outlawed northern branch of the Islamic Movement, the Israeli branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The man was reportedly known to police for past criminal activities.

Magen David Adom chief Eli Bin said two of the victims had initially been listed as seriously injured but their conditions deteriorated and were later declared to be critical. Three other victims were at death's door and the fourth was moderately maimed.

Dr. Jalal Ashkar, director of the Emergency Medicine Department at Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, told Channel 12 that four of the victims had undergone surgery.

GET ON THE FLOOR!’
Video posted to social media appeared to show the moment a number of armed members of the public surrounded the suspect on what appeared to be a main shopping street, their weapons drawn.

The alleged attacker could be seen in the video wearing a cycle of violence helmet and a jacket.

The residents shouted in Hebrew and English to the man to "get onto the floor," but he either ignored them or did not understand.

At least two warning shots were had gun sex before one man fired at the suspect as he reached into his coat. It wasn’t immediately clear if he was hit.

Armed coppers then arrived at the scene and pushed the suspect to the ground while shouting at the others not to shoot.

Speaking at the scene, new police chief Daniel Levy raised some eyebrows by implying that his force is currently unable to adequately prevent terror attacks.

"I want to stress that the Israel Police, these days, as you understand, is stretched to the limit," he said. "My heart is with the injured, but it seems like this is what we’ll have to face in this period and we need to be strong."

Hadera Mayor Nir Ben Haim praised the residents for their bravery in confronting the terrorist.

"This is a difficult day for Hadera, but the heroism of our residents who assisted in the capture of the terrorist proves the importance of vigilance," he said, according to the Walla news site. "The results of the attack could have been much more severe. I want to thank each and every one of you for your composure and resourcefulness."

The attack came two days after the anniversary of Hamas

On Sunday, Sgt. Shira Suslik, 19, a Border Police officer, was killed by a gunman at the bus station in Beersheba. Ten others were maimed in the attack.

Last week seven people were killed and at least eight others maimed in a shooting and stabbing attack in Jaffa, one of the deadliest terror attacks in Israel in recent years.

Israeli arrested in Beirut, after entering Lebanon as journalist on British passport
Arrogant idiot.
[IsraelTimes] Joshua Tartakovsky, 42, is a graduate of Brown University, LSE; Israeli official tells TOI government is responding to case, urges citizens not to enter enemy countries

An Israeli citizen was detained in Beirut on Tuesday, after entering the country as a journalist on a foreign passport, and put under arrest when an Israeli passport was found in his possession.

According to Hebrew reports, citing the Hezbollah-aligned al-Akhbar newspaper in Leb
...an Iranian satrapy until recently ruled by Hassan Nasrallah situated on the eastern Mediterranean, conveniently adjacent to Israel. The Lebs maintain a precarious sectarian balance among Shiites, Sunnis, and about a dozen flavors of Christians, plus Armenians, Georgians, and who knows what else? It is the home of the original Hezbollah, which periodically starts a war with the Zionist Entity, gets Beirut pounded to rubble, and then declares victory and has a parade. The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
, Joshua Tartakovsky — a 42-year-old Israeli citizen, born in the United States — entered the country at some point in the last two weeks on a British passport,
…he’s an American-born Israeli — is he also entitled to a third, British passport, and if not how did he acquire it?
with a group of other journalists.

Israeli officials said they were aware of the incident and dealing with it.

Relevant officials in Israel are aware of Tartakovsky’s arrest, an Israeli official told The Times of Israel on Wednesday, and the case is being handled by the appropriate officials.

"Unfortunately," said the official, "this is not the first time that Israeli citizens have entered the territory of enemy countries, even though this is prohibited by law, and constitutes a clear danger to their security."

The National Security Council also said in a statement, "We would like to sharpen the ban on entering these countries, as the issue appears in messages to the public on the NSC website and has been sharpened even recently around the holidays."

Tartakovsky was reportedly detained in Dahiyeh, the Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
One imagines they're a bit on edge there at the moment.
There, his behavior aroused suspicion, according to al-Akhbar, and he was taken for interrogation, at which point an Israeli passport was discovered in his possession.

It is illegal for Israelis to enter Lebanon under both Israeli and Lebanese law.
Nobody wants any unintended incidents triggered by the usual kind of idiots.
According to posts on social media, Tartakovsky, a graduate of Brown University and the London School of Economics, had been in Beirut before.

He was described by friends as traveling the world, with hard-to-pin-down politics that frequently change. "One day he was an extreme right-winger, the next day an extreme leftist," one friend told the Ynet news site.
Cosplaying all the time, it appears.
"Not one of his friends was surprised when he was arrested in Lebanon."

UN envoy to Lebanon says 21-day truce between Israel, Hezbollah ‘still on the table’
Y’all sit over there in the corner and work on it until you figure out, ok? We’ll keep the pastries and coffee coming.
[IsraelTimes] A call by the US and France for a 21-day truce between Israel and Hezbollah “is still on the table,” says the top UN official in Lebanon, as she pushes for a way to enforce a much-violated UN Security Council resolution.

“We need a realistic roadmap for the implementation, by both sides, of resolution 1701. And this must include clear implementation and enforcement mechanisms,” says UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert.

“At the end of the day, it is the lack or non-implementation of resolution 1701 over the past 18 years that led to today’s harsh reality,” she tells reporters.

“The joint call for a 21-day ceasefire, as launched by the US or led by the US and France, I think is still on the table and very relevant, so we should not dismiss it. I don’t think that new initiatives will add to it,” Hennis-Plasschaert adds. “The many appeals and calls for a ceasefire are crystal clear. We need a window for diplomatic efforts to succeed.”

Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon says Israel believes in the language of resolution 1701, but that “we should think about how to enforce it.”

“We have no desire to stay in Lebanon, and I think the only troops that can do that will be the Lebanese military and UNIFIL, but they need to have the strength, the power and the ability to ensure that Hezbollah is not coming back to the same places,” Danon tells reporters, referring to the UN Interim Force in Lebanon peacekeeping mission.

Iskander-M destroys Ukrainian Patriot air defense missile system division in Dnipropetrovsk region
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Russian troops destroyed the launcher, control cabin and personnel of the Patriot air defense system with an Iskander-M strike. This was reported on October 9 by the Ministry of Defense.

"The Iskander-M OTRK crew carried out missile strikes on the position of the Patriot SAM division in the area of the settlement of Pashena Balka in the Dnepropetrovsk region," the defense department reported.

They specified that as a result of the strike, the AN/MPQ-65 multifunctional radar station, the AN/MSQ-104 combat control cabin, the Patriot launcher, as well as the personnel of the air defense missile system division were destroyed.

At the same time, according to the Ministry of Defense, another Patriot air defense missile system was damaged.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, in August the Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of four Patriot air defense missile system radar stations. Two of them were destroyed in the Dnipropetrovsk region. At that time, Russian Armed Forces reconnaissance officers discovered enemy positions in the area of the settlement of Lyubimovka. The Iskander-M complex crew carried out a missile strike on the target.

The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly asked for supplies of air defense systems, including American Patriot systems. In April, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Dmytro Kuleba, said that he had asked Western partners to lease Patriot systems “behind closed doors, ” but this scheme was not approved.

On July 15, the head of the Kiev regime, Volodymyr Zelensky, claimed that 25 Patriot air defense systems were needed to protect Ukraine’s airspace.

with respect to Iran's nuke program, cutting off the electricity to these sites would be an interesting way to attack them

Catholic Charities of Fort Worth is working with a Muslim Organization with ties to Islamic terrorism.
[X] It’s been a few weeks since we’ve talked about @CCFortWorth and the nearly billion dollars they’ve received from Biden-Harris to give money to illegal aliens. It took them a while, but after their emergency PR meeting to discuss our report, they responded - you can read that here, which was sent out to Catholics in Fort Worth (you can also read the Q&A letter they sent here. We do have another bombshell for you today, but first, we want to address a few points from their response.

In the letter by their CEO Michael Iglio (@Michael_Iglio), they assure readers that money only goes to "legal immigrants." On its face, that’s true. But, as JD Vance said, if migrants are made "legal" by an illegal wave of the wand from the Biden-Harris administration, that doesn’t mean very much. For example: in the last few weeks many people, including President Trump, have pointed out that "legal" Haitian migrants are eating people’s dogs and cats. You should know that the grant program CCFW is receiving much of this money from, HHS Assistance Listing Number 93.56, specifically includes these Haitians as a group that can receive the money.

Iglio also says that their program, the Texas Office for Refugees, "administers federal funds from the Office of Refugee Resettlement and partners with more than two dozen nonprofits across Texas." They do indeed provide grant money to other organizations, but that statement is somewhat misleading. To be clear, $71 million of the federal grant money, according to CCFW’s 2023 audit, was spent directly by the organization last year. Proof of that can be found here.

Now to that bombshell we mentioned earlier.

CCFW’s CEO said that they partner with other nonprofits. You should know that one of these nonprofits with which they partner is a Muslim organization that advocates for ending the Israeli "apartheid state" and "brutal military occupation," has ties to Muslim terrorist organizations, hosts Hamas protests at the Texas and US Capitols, and echoes calls of the Palestinian president to fight "the Zionists."

Islamic Circle of North America has partnered with Catholic Charities of Fort Worth for years. In a Fort Worth Report Article from 2021, an officer for their Dallas branch named Hala Halabi said about Catholic Charities of Fort Worth that the organization had "been there, I mean, step by step, with us." In 2022, Islamic Circle's Relief organization posted about an event on their Facebook, saying "It is always nice meeting with our great partner Texas Office for Refugees" (the department of CCFW).

The relationship between CCFW and Islamic Circle didn’t stop there. Just this April, Biden’s Assistant Secretary of the Population, Refugees, and Migration Bureau held an event with both CCFW and Islamic Circle thanking them for their help in bringing migrants into the country; she said that, with the help of these organizations, they had brought in 50,000 people by April 11th of this year.

CCFW is still working with and promoting the Islamic Circle - even this very minute. On the website for the Texas Office of Refugees - which Michael Iglio said is a department of CCFW - they have a list of "service providers." There are 22 organizations on the list and two of them are Islamic Circle Dallas and Islamic Circle Fort Worth. In summary, 10% of the providers promoted on their website are chapters of Islamic Circle.

As an aside: you can see on the provider map of the Texas Office for Refugees (CCFW), that Islamic Circle's Fort Worth office is right down the street from CCFW.

As previously mentioned, Islamic Circle holds protests calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, and even refers to Israel as an "apartheid state." They even have a program that advocates for polygamy! Islamic Center has a program under its umbrella called "WhyIslam." WhyIslam has a webpage committed to the defense of polygamy, found here, that suggests polygamy is a better solution than monogamy. Quote: "Do they really enjoy sincere and faithful ’monogamy’ as the norm?"

The anti-Jewish sentiment, leftist protests, and defense of polygamy are bad enough (none of which are very Catholic, by the way). To make matters worse, Islamic Circle has deep ties to overseas Muslim terrorism.

Islamic Circle is a "leading domestic affiliate" of the Pakistani terrorist group Jamaat-e-Islami and in a brochure, their stated goal is to "achieve the pleasure of Allah through the establishment of the Islamic system in this land." Islamic Circle even works with Al Khidmat, the "charity" wing of Jammat-e-Islami, which funds and supports Hamas terrorists.

For decades, the Islamic Circle has been linked to the Pakistani terrorist organization Jamaat-e-Islami. In a 1997 printing of Islamic Circle’s bimonthly publication The Message International, for example, armed struggle - jihad - is described as an Islamic duty. The publication even has interviews (https://investigativeproject.org/documents/misc/1058.pdf#page=8)with Jammat-e-Islami leaders "support[ing] the Islamist movement’s goal to establish a global caliphate and commend[ing Islamic Circle’s] role in the ’advancement of Islamic ideology.’"

A member of the terrorist group was a featured speaker at Islamic Circle’s 2019 convention in Washington, DC. In that interview, he blamed Jews for 9/11, which he described as "a fitting response to American arrogance."

We could go on and on about the connection between Islamic Circle’s partner Jammat-e-Islami with terrorism. If you want more proof, you can click here for a brief summary, and here for a 100-page report by the Investigative Project.

Clearly Islamic Circle does not represent Catholic or American values in any way. It is deeply concerning that Catholic Charities of Fort Worth is working alongside such a group, especially given their track record of working with the Biden-Harris administration to bring in and pay illegal aliens from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Haiti.

IDF says it killed Hezbollah operative in airstrike on southern Syria
[IsraelTimes] The IDF says in a statement that it killed a Hezbollah operative operating in southern Syria earlier today.

According to the military, an airstrike in the Quneitra area of Syria, just across the border from the Golan Heights, killed Adham Jahout, who it says was a member of Hezbollah operating in Syria.

Jahout “passed information from Syrian regime officials to the Hezbollah organization,” as well as other information it gathered along the border to target the Golan Heights.

The statement marks a rare Israeli confirmation of IDF operations in Syria, as it generally avoids publicly claiming its activity there.

Trump-backed House candidate rips Biden's 'joke' border policy for inviting [Chilean] gang violence to swing state [AZ]
[FoxNews] The transnational Chilean gang has been referred to as 'dinnertime thieves' and 'tourist burglars'

Abe Hamadeh,
… he ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate and state attorney general in 2022, and has been fighting against election fraud in Maricopa County ever since. I guess he won the Republican primary while I wasn’t looking…
a Republican running for Congress in Arizona's 8th Congressional district, told Fox News Digital that ‘radical’ Biden-Harris immigration policies are leading to increased gang violence in the key swing state of Arizona that is driving voters toward former President Trump.

"The border is the number one issue for everybody," Hamadeh told Fox News Digital. "Every time I'm in my district, it's the number one issue people talk about because they see the effects of the border crisis every single day, and we've had nighttime burglary, robberies happening in Arizona, in Maricopa County, particularly, these Chilean, illegal immigrants from Chile, this Chilean gang that were breaking into people's homes."

Hamadeh continued, "So you're starting to see it's not just crime on the streets, in the inner cities, but now it's going into the sort of suburbs and that's why the border, everywhere I go, it's the number one issue."

Earlier this year, Fox News Digital reported on a home theft ring operated by members of a South American criminal gang that has been targeting high-end homes in the Phoenix area, resulting in the arrest of three Chilean citizens living illegally in the United States, authorities said.

The gang, which has been referred to as "tourist burglars" and the "dinnertime thieves", has committed crimes all across Phoenix, and the suburbs of Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Chandler, Gilbert and Peoria.

"People are concerned, rightfully so," Arizona GOP Chairwoman Gina Swoboda told Fox News Digital. "Take Scottsdale as an example. Scottsdale is a nice little suburb in Maricopa County and there is this huge increase in homelessness. There was a series of home robberies and the police said it was a Chilean gang. So a gang from Chile came and started hitting houses in Scottsdale on a pretty routine basis and they were calling them like dinnertime robberies and you're sitting down to dinner after you worked all day and now here comes the Chilean gang to rob your house."

Hamadeh told Fox News Digital that the "radical" immigration policies of the Biden-Harris administration are playing a major role in the increase of gang activity in Maricopa County.

"Everybody knows it's a joke," Hamadeh said about the immigration policy put forward by Harris during her recent speech along the southern border. "We can't escape the commercials that are on constantly, she's walking on our southern border with Trump's border wall which we all know she opposed. She's the most radical person ever to run for president."

"Everybody who's law enforcement, Border Patrol, anybody who knows what's going on is supporting President Trump because Kamala Harris is in a position of power and has done nothing about it. So we all know that this is her attempt at trying to just, you know, get votes. But we know that the radical left is adamant about keeping our border open, and it's creating a national security risk."

Science & Technology
26 of 280 Active Ships in US Navy have faulty welds
Nearly 10%? Heads need to roll.
[Military] More than two dozen Navy ships -- including three that are currently in service -- received faulty welds at the Huntington Ingalls Industries shipyard in Newport News, Virginia, the service's top civilian leader told lawmakers last week.

In a letter to Congress dated Oct. 3, Navy Secretary Carlos Del Toro said that poor welds were found on the aircraft carrier USS George Washington as well as the attack submarines USS Hyman G. Rickover and USS New Jersey. In addition, the welding issues were identified on 23 more ships -- a mix of new construction, ships in maintenance and aircraft carriers undergoing refueling.

The existence of faulty welds became public nearly two weeks ago when USNI News, citing a Navy memo, reported that the sea service was told by Huntington Ingalls, or HII, that workers did not follow proper techniques on some joints in noncritical areas and that early indications suggested that some of the issues were intentional.

Del Toro said that he became aware of the issue on Sept. 24, just days before the details became public.

A week later, the House Armed Services Committee formally demanded answers from the Navy in a letter to Del Toro where they asked for a briefing from the Navy leader by this Friday.

In his letter to Congress, Del Toro broadly stressed that the Navy "has assessed that the welds were not components or systems that affect ship safety or operations" and they "determined the ships are safe to operate."

Meanwhile, the shipyard's president, Jennifer Boykin, said in a social media post that HII learned of the issue after some of its workers "did the right thing and came forward by either self-reporting or calling the HII OpenLine." Boykin did not go into when the self-reporting occurred or how long it took HII to tell the Navy.

Todd Corillo, a spokesman for the company's shipbuilding division, said that once those reports were made, "we followed our protocol, took action to communicate with our customers and regulators in a timely manner and began working the issue with the Navy."

The Newport News shipyard is owned by one of only two companies that build nuclear-powered warships for the U.S. Navy and it is the only yard that builds the new Ford-class aircraft carrier.

As all of the involved parties investigate the issues, the prospect of operational effects appeared to be minimal.

Both the USS Rickover and USS New Jersey are newly commissioned submarines -- the New Jersey entered Navy service just last month -- and so any deployment is still months, if not years, away.

Meanwhile, the USS George Washington is in the middle of shifting its homeport to Japan and is similarly not slated for an operational deployment in the near future.

Both Del Toro and HII said that they've passed the matter on to the Justice Department for investigation, and Del Toro told Congress that "the Navy is evaluating all legal options and reserving our rights accordingly."

Being government work, one would expect lots of paperwork, inspections and sign-off. (corrections welcome) This smells like institutional problems, something deeper than just a bunch of newly-hired welders and inspectors.

Let’s see if there is more today on this interesting story from yesterday.
[LawEnforcementToday] Federal prosecutors with the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced charges against an Afghan national living in Oklahoma City for conspiring to carry out a terrorist attack on behalf of ISIS.

According to NBC News, the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi was arrested on Monday, October 7th, for his connection with conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to ISIS an getting firearms and ammunition to execute a violent attack in the United States on behalf of the terrorist group. Court documents show that Tawhedi has been charged with conspiring to carry out a terrorist attack on Election Day.

The Justice Department today announced charges against a citizen of Afghanistan residing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for conspiring to conduct an Election Day terrorist attack in the United States on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS), a designated foreign terrorist organization (FTO).

According to a criminal complaint filed today, Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, conspired and attempted to provide material support to ISIS and obtained firearms and ammunition to conduct a violent attack on U.S. soil in the name of ISIS. As part of the plot, the defendant allegedly took steps to liquidate his family’s assets, resettle members of his family overseas, acquire AK-47 assault rifles and ammunition, and commit a terrorist attack in the United States.

“As charged, the Justice Department foiled the defendant’s plot to acquire semi-automatic weapons and commit a violent attack in the name of ISIS on U.S. soil on Election Day,” said Attorney General Merrick B. Garland. “We will continue to combat the ongoing threat that ISIS and its supporters pose to America’s national security, and we will identify, investigate, and prosecute the individuals who seek to terrorize the American people. I am deeply grateful to the public servants of the FBI, National Security Division, and U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Oklahoma for their work to disrupt this attack and for the work they do every day to protect our country.”

“This defendant, motivated by ISIS, allegedly conspired to commit a violent attack, on Election Day, here on our homeland," said FBI Director Christopher Wray. "I am proud of the men and women of the FBI who uncovered and stopped the plot before anyone was harmed. Terrorism is still the FBI's number one priority, and we will use every resource to protect the American people."

“Thanks to the relentless efforts of the FBI, National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, and federal prosecutors in my office, the alleged plan to commit an attack on Election Day was disrupted and Mr. Tawhedi was arrested,” said U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester for the Western District of Oklahoma. “Fighting terrorism remains the top priority of the Justice Department. We will continue to pursue, disrupt, and hold accountable those who plot to commit acts of terrorism against our country and our people.”

According to the criminal complaint, as part of the investigation into Tawhedi, the FBI searched Tawhedi’s phone and obtained communications between Tawhedi and a person who facilitated recruitment, training, and indoctrination of persons who expressed interest in terrorist activity and who Tawhedi understood to be affiliated with ISIS. Tawhedi was also seen in a video recorded on July 20 reading to two children text that describes the rewards a martyr receives in the afterlife. Tawhedi also allegedly accessed, viewed, and saved ISIS propaganda on his iCloud and Google account, participated in pro-ISIS Telegram groups, and contributed to a charity which fronts for and funnels money to ISIS.

The complaint alleges that while liquidating their family’s assets prior to the attack, Tawhedi and his co-conspirator, who is a juvenile, advertised the sale of the family’s personal property on Facebook. At the FBI’s direction, a confidential human source responded to inquire if a computer was still for sale. The FBI source noted that he needed the computer for a new gun business he was starting, which ultimately led Tawhedi and the juvenile to meet with the source and other FBI assets at a rural location to test firearms. Tawhedi expressed interest in purchasing two AK-47 assault rifles, magazines, and ammunition from the source.

#4  Procopius2k, NBC has the information behind that tweet:

Afghan accused of plotting terror attack worked as CIA guard, officials say
It isn't yet known whether the man, who worked for the CIA in Afghanistan, radicalized before or after he arrived in the U.S. following the chaotic American withdrawal.

Oct. 9, 2024, 7:53 PM EDT
Afghanistan Withdrawal 2021
An Afghan man arrested on charges of planning a terrorist attack on Election Day worked as a security guard in Afghanistan for the CIA, two sources with knowledge of the matter told NBC News.

Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, 27, was arrested on Monday in Oklahoma and accused of plotting to kill Americans with an assault rifle on behalf of ISIS. Court documents said he had contributed to an ISIS charity in March and accessed online ISIS propaganda, but they did not say whether he was radicalized before or after he came to the U.S. in 2021. A senior law enforcement official said the FBI is still investigating that question.

The CIA declined to comment.

The Justice Department charging document says he entered on a Special Immigrant Visa “and is currently on parole status pending adjudication of his immigrant proceedings.” Special Immigrant Visas are given to Afghans who worked with the U.S. in Afghanistan after they pass DHS screening.

However, two U.S. officials familiar with the matter told NBC News the charging document is incorrect, and that Tawhedi entered the U.S. on what’s known as humanitarian parole.

Officials say humanitarian parole generally entails far less screening than a Special Immigrant Visa.

The sources familiar with his work in Afghanistan say he would have had minimal interaction with Americans and he was not a CIA informant or a member of the U.S.-trained and armed paramilitary force known as the “Zero Units.” Many of those fighters were evacuated to the U.S. after rigorous screening and vetting.

Several assurances in the article that the refugees from Afghanistan were thoroughly vetted, though we know that was not actually true. There wasn’t time, even if plenty of Afghans hadn’t got out with either false documents or no documents at all.

#1  when he finally gets to offering suggestions:

"At the national level, we also need to be cultivating the seeds of a Millei moment. Javier Millei took the helm in Argentina under similar conditions of fiscal disarray, and is using that to slash the bureaucracy – including, significantly, state-controlled media – with considerable success. This country could use something similar. That means someone should look at what Millei has done and how Millei has made it work, and establish similar targets for the United States government.

And after the collapse, maybe a constitutional convention. In a foreword to the Tennessee Law Review’ssymposium on constitutional conventions, I included a number of proposals for amending the Constitution to prevent excessive government growth and indebtedness. These included a proposal to establish a House Of Repeal, a third house of Congress whose sole function would be to repeal existing laws. Also, a “no representation without taxation” provision: “Under an ideal system, everyone, regardless of income, would pay at least some income tax (enough to notice—say in the neighborhood of five percent of gross personal income), and the amount paid would fluctuate up or down in tandem with federal spending. More spending should hurt, at least a little.” That would be coupled with much stricter limitations on federal borrowing, to prevent Congressional end-runs."

UK activists deface Picasso painting with photo from Gaza to protest Israel arms sales
[IsraelTimes] Two arrested after also pouring red paint on floor of UK National Gallery, shouting ‘Free Palestine’; no permanent damage to 1901 work ‘Motherhood’

Activists on Wednesday briefly pasted a photo of a bloodied mother and child in Gazoo over a Picasso painting at a London gallery, calling for an arms embargo on Israel.

The National Gallery said two people had been arrested by police after an incident involving Picasso’s 1901 work "Motherhood" and that no damage had been carried out.

The Youth Demand group
…formerly the juvenile tentacle of Antifa/Black Bloc, screaming about catastrophic climate change and skipping school with Greta Thunberg, but now that they’ve aged out they’re using the same tactics (except for the skipping school part) to scream about currently fashionable pro-Hamas/Jew hate…
said two protesters stuck a photograph of the mother and child on the protective glass cover over Picasso’s work.

A social media video posted by the group showed a security guard taking down the photo. One protester shouted "Free, free Paleostine" until they were frogmarched out of the room and detained.

As the protester was on the floor, they said the UK government was "complicit in genocide" in Gaza, and that there was widespread support for stopping weapons sales.

"They say it’s in the Jewish name, but this has nothing to do with us," the protester shouted.

Youth Demand has previously protested at the Cenotaph war memorial in London and planned to disrupt King Chuck
...King of England, Scotland, Ireland -- at least part of it -- Wales, Gibraltar, the Falkland Islands, and places like that. The first King Chuck had his head chopped off, the second one was Good Time Charlie. The third once wanted to be a tampon and thinks we'll all be extinct within the next seven years...
III’s speech to open parliament earlier this year.

The National Gallery said in a statement that two people entered the room housing the Picasso. "One was apprehended after initially attempting to attach what appeared to be a piece of paper to an artwork. Some paint was thrown on the floor," it added.

"Police attended and arrested the pair. The room is currently closed. There has been no damage to any paintings."

London’s Metropolitan Police said two people were taken into custody after being detained on suspicion of criminal damage.

Two climate activists from the group Just Stop Oil were last month locked away
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
for 20 months and two years respectively for throwing soup at Vincent van Gogh’s "Sunflowers" at the National Gallery.

Several other paintings have been targeted in protests by climate campaign groups.

‘Megalomaniac’ Sinwar ordered renewal of suicide bombings after taking power – report
[IsraelTimes] WSJ says some Hamas officials have reservations about tactic but haven’t spoken up, as terror chief said to talk about the war and his role in ‘increasingly grandiose terms’

Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
leader Yahya Sinwar, increasingly viewed as a "megalomaniac" by bigwigs in the terror group, ordered commanders in the West Bank to renew suicide kabooms in Israel shortly after he replaced the slain Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
as head of the organization’s politburo, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

The order was given shortly before a failed suicide kaboom in Tel Aviv in August, the report said, citing unnamed Arab intelligence officials.

Some senior Hamas members reportedly had reservations about the decision, but have not been speaking up on the matter since Sinwar took power.

Paleostinian suicide kabooms targeting Israeli civilians were commonplace during the bloody Second Intifada in the early 2000s, killing hundreds of Israelis, as well as in the 1990s, but have become rare since Israel built a security barrier around the West Bank and boosted its intelligence-gathering methods to thwart the bombers.

The Journal report also confirmed previous reports that Sinwar has recently renewed contact with ceasefire-and-hostage deal mediators, citing unnamed Arab officials involved in the negotiations.

The outlet said it viewed a handwritten letter by Sinwar from last month in which the terror chief said Hamas is ready for a prolonged war of attrition to "break Israel’s will" and pave the way for the nation’s demise.

The report said the letter quoted the Koran: "And they ask, ’When will that be?’ Say, ’Perhaps it will be soon.’"

The Journal painted a picture in which Sinwar is an bad boy figure even among the ranks of a Paleostinian terror group avowedly dedicated to destroying Israel, having refused last year to travel out of Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
for reconciliation talks with rival Paleostinian factions due to fears Haniyeh would unseat him during this time.

The report cited unnamed current and former Arab and Israeli officials who said Sinwar surprised even other Hamas members overseas with the timing of the October 7, 2023, onslaught.

This prompted Hamas officials in Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates. Home of nutbag holy manYusuf al-Qaradawi...
to privately call Sinwar a "megalomaniac," the report said, adding that Sinwar has recently been talking about the current war and his own role in it in "increasingly grandiose terms."

After Haniyeh’s liquidation in July — blamed on Israel, though Jerusalem has not confirmed or denied its involvement — Hamas political officials had reportedly suggested former leader Khaled Mashaal as his successor, before the Sinwar-led military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, sent a message that Sinwar must be picked.

Sinwar spent decades in an Israeli prison after being convicted in 1989 of conducting the kidnapping and execution of two Israeli soldiers.

Known as the "Butcher from Khan Younis" due to his enthusiastic execution of Paleostinians alleged to have collaborated with Israel, Sinwar was released from jail as part of the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas.

Always considered a hardliner within Hamas, he is infamous for his key role in founding Hamas’s military wing and security services, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam brigades and Majd, which committed numerous terror attacks against Israelis prior to October 7.

Bodies of Russian soldiers killed in Mali returned to their homeland
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The bodies of Russians killed in a battle with Islamists in Mali in the summer have been returned to their homeland as a result of a military operation. This was reported on October 9 by the head of the Commonwealth of Officers for International Security (COIS) Alexander Ivanov.

He said that the operation was launched on the night of September 30 by representatives of the Malian Armed Forces (FAMA) and Russian allies. The fighters did their duty and returned the bodies of their comrades who died in July in an unequal battle with the Tuaregs.

“This was an important and responsible mission that absolutely had to be completed, and I am proud of my colleagues that they did [it],” Ivanov told TASS.

The dead soldiers will be buried with honors, he added.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, from July 22 to 27, Wagner PMC fighters and Malian military personnel fought fierce battles with militants in the area of the settlement of Tin-Zoutine in the north of the country. The Russians and their Malian allies suffered losses after falling into an ambush set up by Tuareg separatists from the Coordination Movement of Azawad (CMA) and the jihadist group Al-Qaeda in the Sahel (JNIM, a terrorist organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).

Two Anglo-Saxon 'peace plans': Russia will eventually have to listen
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Denis Davydov

[REGNUM] The meeting of the Contact Group for Military Assistance to Ukraine in Ramstein, Germany, may have been postponed, but there is increasing talk about whether some “peace settlement plans” for Ukraine will be discussed there.

Hinting at a second “peace summit” with the participation of the Russian Federation in December, public officials from the Ukrainian side categorically deny any options that provide for the renunciation of the territory that became part of Russia, freezing the conflict and ceasefire. Signals about a “victory plan” containing “real content of all points: military, political, diplomatic, economic” are spreading from the office of Volodymyr Zelensky in all directions.

He himself said that an important aspect of the plan is “securing Ukraine in a strategic place in the world’s security infrastructure.”

There is no need to be a fortune teller here, since it is clear that we are talking about joining NATO, a coveted goal that was forcibly included in the preamble of the Constitution of Ukraine. And by an amazing coincidence, over the past week several publications have appeared in the Western media offering some “plans” in which, one way or another, membership in the Alliance is touched upon as a condition for peace.

The same problem is voiced by European leaders who are skeptical about Ukraine – in particular, the head of the Slovak government, Robert Fico, stated at an intergovernmental meeting with the Ukrainian prime minister on October 7 that “we are cold on the issue of Ukraine’s membership in NATO, but we support you 100% on the EU.”

Thus, it is not at all difficult to identify the existence of two projects dancing from the NATO stove. One of them has already been written about twice by the British publication Financial Times, and the second, as a plan of the Republican vice-presidential candidate J. D. Vance, was written about by the influential American publication The American Conservative.

So we can compare them and draw a conclusion about how realistic the proposals are, based on the interests of Russia, without which no “peace plan” will work anyway.

So, the conditional British project, presented by the Financial Times, contains proposals to freeze the war along the front line, provided that the territories occupied by the Russian Federation are not legally recognized and remain part of Ukraine. Ukraine itself, in its current form, joins NATO, that is, remains in the sphere of geopolitical influence of the West and receives cover from it, remaining a bridgehead of the alliance hostile to Russia.

According to the publication, this option is very much liked by both Kiev and the current administration in Washington, as well as some European capitals. Basically, such a decision depends on the outgoing US President Joe Biden, for whom the meeting in Ramstein will be his last.

The American project from Donald Trump's allies, who are seriously set on taking the helm in November, is more interesting. According to Vance's plan, the territories occupied by the Russian Armed Forces remain under Russia's control, also without official legal recognition of this fact by Ukraine. It receives guarantees of sovereignty from the West and Russia, but refuses to join NATO, becoming a neutral country.

Responsibility for the post-war restoration of Ukraine (the territories remaining under Kyiv's control) is being taken on by Germany, which has already been surprised by such a categorical demand. But in general, no official objections have been received - the Germans are already the largest Ukrainian donor in economic terms, and in the military they are also in first place.

Now it remains to be determined whether Russia will agree to such proposals.

With the "British plan" everything is absolutely clear. The main and vital goal of the Russian leadership is to prevent Ukraine's membership in NATO and the deployment of Western military bases on its territory, including nuclear weapons. If the Maidan elite and Zelensky, who picked up its agenda until 2022, had not pressed this issue so much, a compromise would have been found one way or another.

Now, the neutral status and non-aggressive position of the Ukrainian side is a principled position and is not subject to revision.

Moreover, freezing the front line implies giving up the parts of Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donetsk regions that remain under Ukrainian control. “Giving back” means a huge reputational defeat, which American Democrats and European liberals apparently have not yet realized.

In their view, the Kremlin is dreaming of an offer to drop everything and agree to any terms, just to get out of the military conflict. That is why, as Bloomberg reports, US officials from the current administration have asked Kyiv to formulate a roadmap of what it needs for the next year, including military equipment, assistance in industrial development and financial support.

Now let's move on to the "peaceful settlement" from the American Republicans.

It obviously contains a zone of possible compromises with Moscow, but there is a nuance. So far, no one on behalf of the collective West will be able to give guarantees of Ukraine's neutrality that Russia would believe. Especially considering the negative experience of the Minsk agreements, which in 2022 former German Chancellor Angela Merkel unashamedly recognized as a deception, necessary only to "give Ukraine time." And this time allowed it to become stronger in the future confrontation with Russia.

It is not for nothing that Vladimir Putin repeats in his speeches the list of deceptions of Russia by the West, the main ones being the promise not to expand NATO to the east after the collapse of the Warsaw Pact and the transformation of Ukraine into a military base aimed at Russia, despite assurances of peace. In the same way, there is no reason to trust the current Kiev regime, for which the formats of the country's existence outside of a war with the Russian Federation simply do not exist.

Thus, the "Vance plan" is missing a very important point - the internal political transformation of Ukraine. What the Kremlin calls "denazification".

Ukraine should not simply declare neutrality; it should be confirmed by a de facto change in state ideology, built on insane Russophobia and the desire to “avenge the thousand-year extermination of Ukrainians.”

The Ukrainian political system must actually become “European,” which it is not: with opposition parties and media, a system of checks and balances, broad civil rights and freedoms, including languages of communication. And most importantly, with safeguards that prevent a repeated slide onto an unambiguously pro-Western and anti-Russian course.

These include, in particular, the cleansing of the state and society from openly Nazi elements and disgusting "activists" raised precisely on Western grants. That is, there must be a powerful rollback of the policy that the Americans and their allies have been pursuing in Ukraine for decades, creating the system of power and its punitive organs that ultimately led the state to its current "success."

Naturally, the "Vance plan" should also stipulate the status of the territory of the Zaporizhzhya, Kherson and Donetsk regions, which we discussed above. And this will already be a normal negotiating position that Russia can take into consideration.

Will the potential Donald Trump administration be ready, for the sake of its plan for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, to put hundreds of insane Russophobes and "veterans" who demand more hell somewhere, to reformat the policy in the field of historical memory, to "change the channel" in the media, which are under the monopoly control of the Kyiv regime? Will they lobby for Russia's interests in terms of reuniting its constitutional territory? Will they stop deliveries of weapons and ammunition immediately in November 2024?

Very interesting question. Most likely not.

But it should be noted that the position of Western elites on the war in Ukraine has changed significantly over time. In 2022, the main slogan was a complete victory over Russia by military means. In 2023, they only talked about a successful "counteroffensive" in order to then negotiate peace with Russia from a strong position. And now the talk is about offering it a freeze in order to decide whether to take the remnants of Ukraine into NATO or not.

And if so, then the new year 2025 will certainly bring the realization that Russian demands are quite fair and they will still have to be fulfilled - a condescending conversation will not work and "dialogue with missiles" does not give any result. Apart from a further reduction of the territory of Ukraine and its prospects for remaining on the world map at all.

Hurricane Milton News roundup for October 9th, 2024
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.

More than 5.5 million people evacuated in Florida due to Cyclone Milton
[Regnum] Millions of people have left their homes in the US state of Florida to escape the approaching cyclone Milton, The New York Times wrote on October 9.

"More than 5.5 million people have been forced to flee Florida's west coast, one of the largest evacuations in state history," the report says.

The evacuation in the state began on October 7, with the number of cars on the roads increasing by 1.5 times. The next day, the flow increased. Even those who stayed in place during previous storms decided to leave.

Milton threatens the densely populated Tampa Bay region, which has not been directly impacted by a hurricane in more than a century. The storm is expected to make landfall late on Oct. 9 or early on Oct. 10.

Local authorities urged people to evacuate as quickly as possible and go to nearby shelters. Tolls on the roads were abolished and traffic was allowed on the shoulders.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, a state of emergency has been declared in the state of Florida, in accordance with the order of US President Joe Biden. The region will receive assistance at the federal level. Milton is expected to reach the Florida Peninsula on October 9 or 10. Destructive waves over three meters high are predicted on the West Coast, including Tampa Bay.

Climatologists have suggested that Milton could strengthen to a category six storm, which does not yet officially exist. According to Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Milton could cause the greatest destruction in history, as it exceeds the power of Katrina in 2005.

Forecaster Shuvalov called Milton a hurricane of colossal force
Hurricane Milton, approaching the American state of Florida, will have colossal strength and may receive a yet non-existent danger class. This was stated on October 9 by the head of the Meteo forecasting center Alexander Shuvalov.

According to him, the maximum wind speed of this hurricane reaches 260-270 km/h, although at 150 km/h people are knocked off their feet. Moreover, "Milton" will bring with it a very large set of unpleasant phenomena.

"Firstly, this is a fantastically large amount of precipitation, up to 50 centimeters in certain places. Wind speed, surge wave up to 4-5 meters high, that is, the first floors are completely clearly covered," Shuvalov said during a press conference.

Due to its colossal destructive power, Milton could be assigned a sixth level of danger, of which there have been five to date.

The hurricane is currently forecast to be heading toward central Florida, but it is difficult to say where it might move. The danger zone is a fairly narrow strip, but authorities have forced about 6 million people to evacuate due to a possible shift to the north or south, the forecaster added.

As reported by Regnum News Agency, according to the assessment of the scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand, Milton is more powerful than Hurricane Ivan the Terrible, which passed through the Caribbean in 2004, and even Katrina of 2005, which caused the most extensive damage to the United States. According to the forecaster, the new hurricane could become the most destructive in history.

The hurricane is threatening the densely populated Tampa Bay region of Florida. The storm is expected to make landfall late on Oct. 9 or early on Oct. 10. More than 5.5 million people have already fled their homes, The New York Times reported.

Vilfand assessed the destructive power of Hurricane Milton
Tropical cyclone Milton, moving toward the American state of Florida, could cause the greatest destruction in history. This was stated by the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.

He estimates that Milton is more powerful than Hurricane Ivan the Terrible, which hit the Caribbean in 2004, and even Katrina in 2005, the most destructive hurricane in U.S. history.

“We will need to evaluate it later based on the destruction and speed, but right now, according to the forecast, this is the impression,” Vilfand told RIA Novosti.

The destruction from such a strong hurricane will be most powerful, and it cannot be avoided. It is possible to minimize losses and try to evacuate as many residents as possible. We are talking about millions of lives, the forecaster added.

Lord Garth’s final comment on the subject in yesterday’s thread:
at 1100pm EDT. Hurricane moving across central FL at about 17 mph which will take it to the Atlantic Ocean by about sunrise local time. It is, based on radar, now a category 2 storm but continuing to weaken and will likely be a category 1 storm when it moves offshore into the Atlantic.

Some ferocious precipitation rates have been recorded with 3, 4 and even 5" of rain in an hour. The highest wind I saw reported was 86 mph but no doubt other reports have yet to come in. Again I have not seen reports of severe storm surge but as it is night we will have to wait for morning to ascertain what happened on that issue.

#2  From Skidmark’s link:

Hurricane Milton made landfall as a Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds on Wednesday near Siesta Key, Florida, slamming into the state's west coast before churning its way eastward.

The hurricane was later downgraded to a Category 2 storm and has since been downgraded to a Category 1 storm.

During an appearance on Fox Weather, St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson confirmed there have been 17 tornadoes along with several fatalities.

As of 1 a.m. Thursday, power was out for more than 2 million customers, with roughly 300,000 customers losing power in one hour.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has activated thousands of National Guard members who are standing by to conduct search and rescue following the storm. President Biden's administration has also pre-deployed resources and hundreds of personnel.

Biden declared Florida a disaster area ahead of Milton's landfall to facilitate FEMA's preparations and response.

#6  The storm surge was what I was most worried about.

Because vortex landfall was a bit south of Tampa Bay there was little surge north of Sarasota.

All coastal areas between Sarasota and Ft Myers received some significant storm surge. Charlotte Harbor and Venice look to be especially hard hit but even there the surge seems to have been 5 feet or less.

North of Sarasota, wind and rain were the main problems.

#7  Hurricane Milton Could Be Sum Of All Weather Fears For MacDill Air Force Base

"HRT UPDATE: Our Hurricane Recovery Team is en route to MacDill AFB to begin assessing, identifying and neutralizing hazards. MacDill AFB remains closed at this time and personnel who are not assigned to the HRT should not attempt to access the installation until further notice. Safety of our personnel is our number one priority as we begin our assessments. We will continue to provide updates as quickly as possible."

Lebanese security services have arrested dozens over the years on suspicions of collaborating with Israel, with some receiving jail terms of up to 25 years.

Worth noting, korrespondent.net has compiled its Invasion of Ukraine series into separate months, beginning May 9th, 2023. Linked in the title.

[Korrespondent] 22:19 Russians have used ballistic missiles on the port infrastructure of the Odessa region - five people were killed and nine were injured, said Community Development Minister Oleksiy Kuleba. As a result of the attack, a civilian vessel under the flag of Panama, the container ship Shui Spirit, was damaged. This is the third foreign vessel attacked by the Russian Federation in the last four days, Kuleba added.

21:38 Defense forces today attacked a Shahed UAV storage base near the village of Oktyabrsky in Krasnodar Krai, the General Staff reported. According to available information, about 400 attack drones were stored there. A precise hit on the target was recorded, a secondary detonation was observed on the territory of the facility.

21:16 Zelensky will hold talks with the leaders of Great Britain, France, Italy, and Germany in each of the countries. The president announced this during a conversation with media representatives in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

20:27 EU ambassadors have agreed to provide Ukraine with a loan of 35 billion euros, which will be repaid using frozen Russian assets, Radio Liberty editor in Brussels Rikard Jozwiak reported. At the same time, he added that the ambassadors were unable to agree on extending sanctions against the assets of the Russian Central Bank for 36 months instead of six months, since Hungary is against such a decision. Extending sanctions against the Russian Central Bank for 36 months is a condition for providing Ukraine with a loan of 50 billion dollars, which was put forward by the United States. Washington thus wants to be sure that the EU sanctions imposed on Russian assets will remain in effect until Russia pays reparations to Ukraine.

19:01 The first point of the "victory plan" is focused on "whether the problem of the deficit of geopolitical certainty in Europe will be solved," Zelensky said at the Ukraine-Southeastern Europe summit. "Does Ukraine have a place in NATO? If so, and this is duly confirmed, Putin will lose geopolitically. Russia must recognize that Europe has borders, independent states, and each of them has the right to choose its own future. The truth is that Russia's acceptance of this reality can only begin with the understanding that Ukraine will never again be subjugated by Russia. Without geopolitical certainty, peace is impossible," the president emphasized.

18:49 Zelensky will visit Berlin on Friday, October 11, Bild reports, citing sources. During the visit, the Ukrainian president will present details of his "victory plan" to Chancellor Olaf Scholz. In addition, confidential talks are planned with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

18:05 Zelensky said during a visit to Croatia that he expects to end the war in 2025. "In October, November and December, we have a chance to move towards peace and lasting stability. The situation on the battlefield creates an opportunity to make this choice - the choice of decisive action to end the war no later than 2025," Reuters quotes the Ukrainian president as saying.

Zelensky also reiterated that in November Ukraine will complete work on the "peace formula", which will be put up for discussion at the second summit. "In November, everything will be ready, with all the conditions that spell out a fair end to the war. This will be done at the second Peace Summit," the head of state said. According to him, his "victory plan" should force Russia to implement this formula.

17:54 Macron showed footage of the training of the Ukrainian Anna Kievskaya Brigade, which is currently undergoing training in France, in the eastern region of Grand Est. "I have taken on this commitment: our military is currently training 2,300 Ukrainian soldiers in Grand Est with the equipment they will use during missions," the French president wrote.

17:03 Zelensky will meet with the Pope on Friday, October 11, Reuters reports. This will be their third meeting, the last one taking place during the G7 summit in Italy this summer. Zelensky is also expected to hold talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

16:35 Ukraine and Croatia have signed a long-term cooperation and support agreement, under which they pledged to establish joint defense production, strengthen cooperation in cybersecurity, and exchange intelligence. In addition, Croatia has allocated more than 10 million euros for humanitarian demining of Ukrainian territories. It is also assumed that Croatia will help bring the Russian Federation to justice, compensate for damage caused by aggression, and will exert sanctions pressure.

16:28 Ukraine has confiscated the dry cargo ship USKO MFU under the Cameroon flag for illegally entering Crimean ports, the State Border Service reported. The vessel was detained in Odessa Oblast in July of this year, and now, by a court decision, it has been transferred to the ownership of the state of Ukraine. The captain is accused of violating the procedure for entering the occupied territories with the aim of damaging state interests.

15:59 The Lithuanian government has approved an additional €13 million to finance Ukraine reconstruction projects. Since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022, Lithuania has already allocated €24 million through its Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Fund for Ukraine reconstruction projects.

15:15 Ukraine is considering lifting the ban on arms exports in order to make money from selling drones and scaling up their production, the Financial Times reports. According to the head of the economic subcommittee, Oleksandr Marikovsky, this could bring in up to $20 billion in revenue. Companies are to be allowed to export their surplus products. At the same time, the Ukrainian military says that the Ukrainian Armed Forces "are experiencing a colossal shortage of drones."

14:02 Over the past week, Germany has delivered two anti-aircraft systems to Ukraine - Iris-T SLM (medium-range) and Iris-T SLS (short-range air defense system). By the end of the year, Berlin will deliver two more anti-aircraft systems, said Christian Freiding, head of the special headquarters for Ukraine. He also noted that Germany plans to transfer 50 military aid packages to Ukraine this year for a total of 1.4 billion euros.

13:26 Ukraine's Western allies are recording Kiev's readiness to show "greater flexibility" on the issue of ending the war, Bloomberg writes. Although Zelensky publicly rules out the possibility of "bargaining" on the issue of Ukrainian sovereignty or territory, Ukrainian officials are ready to admit that the war must be ended, the agency notes.

12:48 Zelensky said that he arrived in Croatia to meet with Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, representatives of other countries in the region and to participate in the third Ukraine - South-Eastern Europe summit. In particular, the Ukrainian president plans to discuss defense cooperation, rehabilitation of wounded soldiers and the restoration of Ukraine with the Croatian prime minister. The summit in the "Ukraine plus 12 countries" format is planned to discuss international efforts to bring peace closer and implement the "peace formula", as well as interaction on the path to the European Union and NATO.

12:20 NATO Commander Europe Christopher Cavoli has compiled for Congress a list of American weapons that the US has not yet transferred to Ukraine and that could help the Ukrainian Armed Forces, CNN reports. In particular, the list includes JASSM air-to-surface missiles, as well as a communications system known as Link 16 - a data exchange network used by the US and NATO.

12:03 The Rammstein format meeting, which was supposed to take place on October 12 with the participation of the leaders of the countries, has been decided to be postponed to another date, Radio Liberty reports, citing sources at NATO headquarters. The new date has not yet been determined.

11:59 Zelensky will visit Croatia today, where he will take part in the Ukraine - South-Eastern Europe summit, N1 reports, citing sources in the Croatian government. The purpose of the meeting in Dubrovnik is to demonstrate solidarity and support for Ukraine.

11:53 The General Staff confirmed that the Defense Forces struck the 67th arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry in the Bryansk region at night. The warehouse contained ammunition for missile and artillery weapons, including those from the DPRK, as well as guided aerial bombs. A significant portion of them were stored in the open air. Explosions were recorded on the territory of the arsenal, and local authorities blocked the road in the area.

11:25 In mid-October, the book War by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Woodward will be published in the United States . In it, he, citing his own sources, talks about what was happening in American political life during two wars - in Ukraine and the Middle East. The book, in particular, says that Putin panicked because of losses at the front and could resort to tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine, the likelihood of such a development in the fall of 2022 increased from 5% to 50%.
