Responding to Witkoff, Hamas vows no demilitarization ‘as long as the occupation exists’
[IsraelTime] Senior Hamas official Hussam Badran tells the Hamas-affiliated Palestinian news agency Shabakat Quds that US envoy Steve Witkoff’s remarks about the terror group needing to demilitarize if it wants to remain politically involved in Gaza is “a meaningless proposal as long as the occupation [Israel] exists.”

“When we talk about the weapons of the resistance, they are the weapons of the Palestinian people. Therefore, these weapons are carried by Palestinians to resist the occupation, as guaranteed by international laws and conventions,” adds Badran.
Noted. To the death of Hamas, then.

“You have to know what Hamas wants… and then you’ve got to figure out what you can give them that allows them to walk out because that’s what’s needed here”

Hamas confirms senior political official killed in southern Gaza airstrike overnight
[IsraelTimes] The Hamas terror group confirms earlier reports that an Israeli airstrike in Gaza killed one of its senior political leaders overnight.

Pro-Hamas media had reported that Salah al-Bardawil and his wife were killed in an airstrike on Khan Younis, in the south of the Palestinian enclave.

Bardawil was a well-known member of the terror group’s political wing who gave media interviews over the years.

He is the latest in a string of Hamas political officials to have been killed in renewed Israeli airstrikes after the terror group’s de facto government head Essam Addalees and internal security chief Mahmoud Abu Watfa were killed on Tuesday, along with several other officials.

Hamas-run medical authorities in Gaza say that at least 19 people were killed in strikes overnight, including Bardawil.

The European and Kuwaiti hospitals confirm the toll, which does not differentiate between combatants and civilians, and say that the numbers include several women and children.

Houthis fire ballistic missile at Israel, triggering sirens across center of country
[IsraelTimes] IDF says projectile launched by Iran-backed group intercepted before crossing border; Houthi media says US attacked airport in port city of Hodeida

A ballistic missile fired at Israel by the Iran-backed Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
on Sunday morning was successfully intercepted by air defenses, the military said.

There were no reports of injuries or damage in the attack, which triggered sirens across central Israel. The IDF said the missile was shot down before crossing the country’s borders.

It was the fifth Houthi attack on Israel since the Israel Defense Forces began its renewed offensive against Hamas
..the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®,...

...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with a rusty iron fist by Hamas with about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. on Tuesday.

The missile launch came a day after Houthi rebel media in Yemen accused the US of attacking the airport in the rebel-held port city of Hodeida, the latest such claim since Washington announced heavy strikes against the Iran-backed group a week ago.

Al-Masirah TV, blaming "American aggression," said three attacks had targeted the airport in Hodeida on the Red Sea coast.

Between Wednesday and Friday, the Iran-backed rebels’ television channel made similar accusations, after United States Central Command on Wednesday confirmed "continuous operations" against the Houthis and US President Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons...
said they will be "annihilated."

On March 15, the US announced a wave of Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s that officials said killed senior Houthi leaders, and which the rebels’ health authorities said killed 53 people.

The strikes, the first since Trump resumed office, came after the group threatened to renew attacks on Israeli shipping.

They have since renewed their attacks on Israel and have launched several ballistic missiles since the IDF resumed fighting in the Gaza Strip earlier this week. The missiles have all been intercepted by Israeli air defenses or fallen short of reaching Israel, but have nevertheless sent much of the country scrambling to shelter.

On Saturday, a ballistic missile launched from Yemen, apparently aimed at Israel, was said by a defense source to have fallen short in Saudi Arabia.
*Snicker*
The missile was identified by the military, but sirens were not activated in Israel due to it not posing a threat. It was not immediately clear why the missile had failed to reach Israel or if it was even aimed at Israel.

Images show Iraqi Kurdish diplomat at reception held by Israeli envoy to Germany
[IsraelTimes] Images emerge of Dilshad Barzani, the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq’s representative in Germany, at a Nowruz event hosted last Thursday by Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor at his Berlin residence.

Barzani is the son of legendary Kurdish leader Mustafa Barzani, who enjoyed close ties with Israel during his revolts against the central Iraqi government. Dilshad’s brother Masoud — president of Iraqi Kurdistan until 2017 — leads the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iraq’s Kurdish autonomous region. His nephew Nechirvan is Kurdistan’s current president.

Since 2022, Iraq has had a law on the books criminalizing normalization of ties and any relations, including business ties, with Israel. The legislation says that violation of the law is punishable with a death sentence or life imprisonment.

Last week’s event was also attended by Reiner Haseloff, minister president of the German state Saxony-Anhalt, senior Kurdish leader in Germany Ali Ertan Toprak, and other senior German politicians.

Afghanistan
U.S.-Taliban Engagement Deepens as Haqqani Figures Quietly Shift Off Sanctions Radar
[KhaamaPress] Sirajuddin Haqqani
...son of Pashtun warlord Jalaluddin Haqqani, still titular head of the Haqqani Network....
, the acting Interior Minister under the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
-led administration in Afghanistan, continues to draw international attention as signs of evolving U.S. policy emerge. Sources close to the Haqqani network
...a branch of the Afghan Taliban that was based in Pakistain. The network is a family business founded by the late Jalaluddin Haqqani...
have told Afghan outlet Tolo News that the reward designations on key figures of the group have been lifted by the U.S. government. According to these sources, Sirajuddin Haqqani, along with Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Yahya Haqqani, are no longer included on the U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice list.

This development follows a period of growing engagement between the United States and the de facto Afghan authorities. Earlier this month, a U.S. delegation visited Kabul for the first time since 2021, reportedly focusing on the release of American detainees. One of those detainees, George Glezmann, was subsequently freed after over two years in jug and returned to the United States.

Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, told Afghan media that while the return of detained Americans was the top priority of the visit, broader and longer-term issues were also discussed with Taliban officials. She did not elaborate on those discussions, citing political sensitivity.

While Sirajuddin Haqqani’s profile has indeed been removed from the State Department’s Rewards for Justice website, his name remains listed on the FBI’s Most Wanted database with no visible changes to his profile or the reward amount. This contrast has raised questions about the exact nature of the changes, and whether they reflect a shift in designation or are part of a phased diplomatic strategy.

Symbolically, anti-U.S. slogans once painted on the walls of the former U.S. Embassy in Kabul have reportedly been removed. This act, though subtle, aligns with a growing trend of more moderate and engagement-focused messaging from the current leadership.

At the regional level, India has also confirmed its ongoing engagement with the Taliban government. On March 20, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar stated that New Delhi had chosen to engage with those in control in Afghanistan, driven by humanitarian imperatives. India has provided large-scale food aid, COVID-19 vaccines, and development assistance since August 2021, and Indian envoys have met with top Taliban officials in recent months.

India’s approach mirrors a broader recalibration of regional strategy. As the U.S. looks to stabilize its influence in South Asia, some analysts suggest that India may become a more active partner in shaping regional outcomes, while traditional players such as Pakistain—closely aligned with China—may find their roles shifting in the evolving landscape.

Although there is no official confirmation from U.S. authorities regarding a change in Haqqani’s legal designation, the combination of recent diplomatic activity, removals from key sanctions lists, and a shift in regional posture point to a growing willingness by international actors to engage in measured, pragmatic dialogue with the Afghan leadership.

Torkham Crossing Fully Reopens After One-Month Closure
[ToloNews] The Torkham crossing, which was reopened to cargo trucks last Wednesday, was fully reopened to passengers as well this morning (Saturday).

The deputy governor of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
told TOLOnews that Pakistain had closed the crossing in response to construction work on the Afghan side of the hypothetical Durand Line. Now that the construction has been completed, the crossing has been reopened for all forms of movement.

Azizullah Mustafah, the deputy governor of Nangarhar, told TOLOnews: "The road has been officially reopened to passengers today, and transit operations are ongoing. The Islamic Emirate is working to prevent the closure of this route because people and traders on both sides are affected, and this crossing should not be politicized."

Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
a number of passengers and traders are calling for better facilities at the crossing. Their main demand is for the crossing to remain permanently open.

Hundreds of cargo trucks pass through the Torkham crossing daily. Traders operating through this route are urging officials in both Afghanistan and Pakistain to resolve the challenges and boost trade between the two countries.

According to the Chamber of Commerce and Investment, traders on both sides suffered an estimated $70 million in losses during the one-month closure of the Torkham crossing.

Gadi Mozes recounts 482 days of solitary captivity: ‘Everything was psychological abuse’
Long with details of Palestinian Islamic Jihad cruelty mixed with complaining about the government. Respect for his courage and resilience, but the political whining is annoying. Some key bits:
[IsraelTimes] Former hostage, 80, slams Netanyahu for not visiting Nir Oz, ‘evil’ government for not even welcoming him on his return; says most urgent thing for him is ‘friends still there’.

Gadi Mozes, who was freed by terrorists in Gaza in January as part of the hostage-ceasefire deal, said in an interview broadcast Thursday that in his 482 days of solitary captivity, “everything that happened to me was psychological abuse.”

“The depth of the fear, the depth of disconnection from the world, the depth of the unknown — it’s impossible to convey,” the Kibbutz Nir Oz farmer, 80, told Channel 12.

He added that his Palestinian Islamic Jihad captors “tried to depress me, tried to break me.”

“The entire time, I was on guard and focused only on how they won’t hurt me. How I survive,” said Mozes.

“I would calm myself down,” he said. “I would tell myself, ‘This will work itself out.’ But in retrospect… that was an illusion. I didn’t actually calm myself down.”

Mozes was held in 10 different locations, including near the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, where thousands of displaced Gazans had sought shelter. He was taken to a school in the area.

“Horrible sights,” he said. “Thousands of people, refugees who had fled from bombings, lying like sardines in the halls, on the floor.”

Asked if he felt mercy for them, Mozes said he did not.

“I saw a sight that was not normal, but I didn’t feel any emotion,” he said. “I didn’t care about anything. I’m also suffering like them.”

According to Channel 12, Mozes was also held in the designated humanitarian zone of Al-Mawasi during the massive Israeli airstrike there that killed Hamas military chief Muhammad Deif in July.

Mozes, a lifelong leftist on the political spectrum, said he felt conflicted after the Hamas onslaught.

“I think peace is made only with enemies,” he said. “What other option is there? That my grandchildren will also die there, be abducted?”

On the other hand, he said, “years and years of belief that we can get along, find a formula that will give room for everyone, have been shattered by this horrendous murder, the murder of my best friends, who all believed in that option.”

Over 100,000 nationwide protest renewed Gaza fighting, Shin Bet chief’s ouster

[IsraelTimes] Rallies much larger than in recent weeks; opposition leaders warn of national strike if gov’t defies High Court; ex-hostage says she felt abandoned when fighting resumed last time

and the planned removal of the country’s top gatekeepers drew larger crowds than those amassed at recent weekend rallies.

At Tel Aviv’s Habima Square, tens of thousands filled the plaza and spilled out into the surrounding streets for the weekly anti-government demonstration — a marked increase from previous weekends when roughly half of the square remained empty.

The surge in attendance was sparked by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bid to fire Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and assert greater control over the levers of power.

The rally at Habima Square preceded a second demonstration at the nearby Hostages Square — with thousands marching from one protest to the other — where the public answered a call from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum for a "rage rally" after the fragile two-month ceasefire in the Gaza Strip shattered earlier this week when Israel launched a large-scale aerial offensive followed by a renewed ground campaign.

At Habima Square, the plaza turned into a sea of Israeli flags interspersed with the banners and flags of center-left opposition parties Yesh Atid and the Democrats

Over 1,500 faculty members at universities across the country have joined a planned academic strike slated to take place on Sunday in what will likely lead to major class disruptions. The faculty members are receiving support from just about all of the country’s main universities.

"If we can organize a tax revolt, we will organize a tax revolt. We will not be accomplices in the destruction of democracy," Lapid said at the Saturday rally.
These people are vile, willing to undermine the safety of the nation in a time of war for their selfish political purposes. Nor do I forgive the Times of Israel, which is choosing to emphasize the anti-Bibiness if it all in their articles on the subject.
His comments echoed sentiments expressed by both the Israel Business Forum and the Histadrut labor union on Friday, which warned that they won’t sit idly by if the government defies the High Court.

As the protest in Habima Square drew to an end, organizers asked participants to join a march to a rally in solidarity with the hostages at the nearby Begin Gate where attendees would merge with those coming from the rally across the street at Hostages Square.

Ahead of the Hostages Square rally, the relatives of several of the Gaza captives delivered a weekly statement to the press, slamming Netanyahu for not prioritizing the return of their loved ones over the effort to dismantle Hamas’s military and governing capabilities.

The protest was the first of the weekly Saturday night demonstrations since Netanyahu ordered the resumption of fighting in Gaza overnight Monday-Tuesday and vowed that future ceasefire negotiations would only take place under fire after Hamas rejected Israel’s proposals to extend phase one of the truce rather than proceed to the second phase.

Addressing the masses at Hostages Square for the first time was also former hostage Doron Steinbrecher, who was one of the first to be released during the recent two-month ceasefire.

She told the crowd that she feels “anger toward those who think it’s okay to go back to fighting” in Gaza rather than stick to the original terms of the ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas.

“How are you not listening to us? How?” she asked of them. “The feeling there, after so much time, is that you’ve been abandoned. And that’s a pain that is impossible to put into words.”

Steinbrecher said that until her release in January, she used to dream about coming to Hostages Square.

“We knew there was a square. We knew there was a place where people came every Saturday and that there was a group of people who knew there were hostages and who didn’t carry on with life as usual,” she said.

“It gives you power, a lot of power,” Steinbrecher continued. “It even makes you forget for a few moments the fear that you’ll be forgotten.”

Demonstrations weren’t limited to Tel Aviv, either, with thousands taking to the streets from the north to the south of the country, including in Haifa — where some 5,000 were said to be in attendance — as well as in Beersheba and Jerusalem.

As the Jerusalem rally drew to a close, a few dozen protesters marched to Netanyahu’s Azza Street residence, clashing with police after breaking through crowd control barriers.

Two demonstrators were arrested and taken to the nearby police station for booking.

Earlier in the night, cops were filmed forcefully shoving marchers as they neared Paris Square, near Netanyahu’s official residence.

A police spokesman said that “some demonstrators violated public order by blocking the intersection, igniting flares, and creating a safety risk for participants and other road users.”

Back in Tel Aviv, at least three protesters were arrested after descending onto the Ayalon Highway and temporarily blocking traffic by lying down on the tarmac. They too were removed and traffic resumed after only a brief delay.

Fifth Column
Detained anti-Israel activist Khalil appears in Louisiana court as deportation looms
[IsraelTimes] Detained Columbia University student activist Mahmoud Khalil appeared briefly Friday in immigration court at a remote Louisiana detention center as his lawyers fight in multiple venues to try to free him.

Khalil, 30, a legal US resident with no criminal record, sat alone beside an empty chair through a brief court session that dealt only with scheduling. His lawyer participated via video.

Khalil swayed back and forth in his chair while waiting for the proceeding to begin in a windowless courtroom inside an isolated, low-slung Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention complex. Ringed by two rows of tall barbed-wire fences and surrounded by pine forests, the facility is near the small town of Jena, roughly 150 miles (240 kilometers) north of Louisiana’s capital, Baton Rouge.

Khalil smiled at two observers as they entered the room, where just 13 people ultimately gathered, including the judge, attorneys and court staff. Two journalists and a total of four other observers attended.

By video, lawyer Marc Van Der Hout said he had just started representing Khalil and needed more time to speak to him, get records, and delve into the case. An immigration judge set a fuller hearing for April 8.

Khalil’s lawyers also have gone to federal court to challenge his detention and potential deportation, which looms as his wife, a US citizen, is expecting their first child. A federal judge in New York ruled Wednesday that Khalil can contest the legality of his detention but that the case should be moved to a New Jersey federal court.
Paragraphs of excuses and special pleading snipped.

Lawfare: Pro-Palestinian students, faculty sue UCLA over handling of anti-Israel demonstrations
Because riots and harassing Jews just isn’t nearly enough.
[IsraelTimes] 35 students, faculty members, legal observers, journalists say school failed to protect activists at campus encampment amid clashes with counter-protesters

A group of 35 pro-Paleostinian students, faculty members, legal observers, journalists and activists filed a lawsuit Thursday against the University of Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,, Los Angeles, over its handling of last year’s anti-Israel, pro-Paleostinian demonstrations.

The lawsuit filed in Los Angeles came days after the Trump administration joined a separate lawsuit filed in June against the university by Jewish students and a Jewish professor, accusing it of failing to protect them.

The demonstrations at UCLA became part of a movement last spring at campuses nationwide against the Israel-Hamas
..always the voice of sweet reason...
war, sparked by the terror group’s onslaught on October 7, 2023.

Many Jewish students at the university said they were made to feel unsafe due to antisemitic statements and banners at the demonstrations.

Last month, the Trump administration opened new investigations into allegations of antisemitism at Columbia University, the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Minnesota, Northwestern University and Portland State University.

UCLA was repeatedly roiled by protests and the way administrators were handling the situation.

The student encampments attracted particular scrutiny last April after campus police failed to promptly intervene when protesters erected physical barricades on campus, preventing pro-Israel students from crossing. School security instead instructed Jewish students to avoid the encampments.

The tensions culminated the night of April 20 when a group of counterprotesters began dismantling an anti-Israel, pro-Paleostinian encampment.

The lawsuit said UCLA failed to protect the demonstrators when dozens of people, some in white masks and some draped in Israeli flags and armed with fireworks, hammers, baseball bats and other weapons, attacked the encampment while the loud sound of crying babies played on the jumbotron.

Several protesters were maimed during the incident, which happened after private security had left and police had not yet arrived, the lawsuit said.

"Encampment members witnessed the mob’s extreme violence, threats of violence, and UCLA’s failure to intervene," it said. "They saw people get their heads split open, suffer from open wounds and concussions, scream in pain and fear, with fireworks and mayhem all around them."

The university did not immediately respond Friday to an email from The News Agency that Dare Not be Named seeking comment.

Los Angeles Police and California Highway Patrol officers arrested dozens of protesters on May 1 and 2 as the camp was cleared.

The episode led to the reassignment of the campus police chief and the creation of a new campus safety office. A subsequent attempt to set up a new camp was also blocked.

The lawsuit also named the Los Angeles Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and 20 people it describes as members of a "mob." It sought monetary damages for physical and psychological injuries suffered by the protesters.

Last June, three Jewish students and a Jewish professor sued the university saying it allowed pro-Paleostinian protesters to block them from accessing classes and other parts of campus. The students alleged they experienced discrimination on campus during the protests because of their faith and that UCLA failed to ensure access to campus for all Jewish students.

A federal judge ruled in a preliminary injunction last year that the university cannot allow pro-Paleostinian protesters to block Jewish students from accessing classes and other parts of campus.

On Monday, the Trump administration filed a brief supporting the Jewish students and professor in their case against UCLA.

"DOJ has thrown down the gauntlet: if university administrators aid and abet mistreatment of Jews, they will pay the price," said Mark Rienzi, president of the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and an attorney for the students and professor.

"This is a wake-up call for every university that allows antisemitic hatred to fester unchecked. No Jewish student or professor should ever again face this kind of terror on their own campus."

6 rockets fired from Lebanon at Metula; IDF airstrikes hit dozens of Hezbollah launchers
[IsraelTimes] 3 rockets intercepted, 3 fall short in Lebanon; Hezbollah denies it fired; some Metula residents leave town; two said killed in Israeli strikes; IDF: It’s Lebanon’s job to uphold ceasefire

Six rockets were fired from Leb
...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers...
at Metula on Saturday morning in the first rocket attack on the northern border since December. The Israel Defense Forces later responded with a wave of Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on dozens of Hezbollah rocket launchers and a command center used by the terror group in south Lebanon.

The IDF said air defenses intercepted three projectiles that crossed the border, while the other three rockets apparently fell short in Lebanon.

There were no reports of injuries or damage in the rocket attack.

Metula Mayor David Azoulai said some of the eight percent of the town’s residents who have returned since the November ceasefire left after the attack. "The return of residents to Metula under the current conditions is unreasonable. Metula residents won’t be held hostage to a security compromise," he said.

A number of hours later, the Hezbollah terror group denied being responsible for the rocket fire on northern Israel. In a statement, Hezbollah said it "reiterates its commitment to the ceasefire agreement and stands behind the Lebanese state in addressing this dangerous Zionist escalation against Lebanon."
Taqqiya.
The IDF initially responded to the attack with artillery fire against targets in south Lebanon.

The official National News Agency in Lebanon said Israeli planes were seen over eastern areas of southern Lebanon and that ground troops fired at the Hamames hills. It also reported Israeli artillery fire on the Nabatieh district in the south and the town of Khiam, which was hit by "three shells [fired by] Merkava tanks." Troops also fired automatic weapons at the border villages of Hula, Markaba and Kfar Kila, the news agency said.

The IDF later launched a wave of airstrikes on dozens of Hezbollah rocket launchers and a command center used by the terror group in Lebanon. It was unclear why Israel knew the location of the rocket launchers but had not previously targeted them.

The rocket attack "is a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a direct threat to Israeli citizens," the military said, adding that "the State of Lebanon bears responsibility for upholding the agreement."

The IDF said that Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir held a situation assessment and that Home Front Command directives were unchanged.

Lebanese media reported that two people, including a girl, were killed in a strike on the town of Touline. Eight others were said to be injured.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said he instructed the IDF to respond to the rocket attack and also issued an apparent threat to strike Beirut.

"We will not allow a reality of fire from Lebanon on the Galilee communities. We have promised security to the Galilee communities, and that is exactly what will happen," he said in a statement.

Katz said that "the fate of Metula is the same as Beirut," in an apparent threat to the Lebanese capital.

"The Lebanese government bears responsibility for any fire from its territory. I have instructed the IDF to respond accordingly," he added.

A number of hours after the attack, Lebanese army said it located three makeshift rocket launchers between the south Lebanon towns of Kfar Tebnit and Arnoun, which were used to fire the rockets at Metula. In a statement, the Lebanese Armed Forces said it dismantled the launchers.

"Military units continue to take the necessary measures to control the situation in the south," the LAF added.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned his country was at risk of being drawn into a "new war."

"All security and military measures must be taken to show that Lebanon decides on matters of war and peace," Salam said.

"Salam warned of renewed military operations on the southern border, because of the risks they carry dragging the country into a new war, which will bring woes to Lebanon and the Lebanese people," a statement read.

Meanwhile,
...back at the abandoned silver mine, the water was up to Jack's neck and still rising. And then he smelled the smoke...
mayors of northern towns expressed their anger at the situation.

Metula’s Azoulay accused the government and the IDF Northern Command of trying "to normalize" a situation of occasional rocket fire from the north.

"We won’t allow them to normalize this. I call on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and of course IDF Northern Command head Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin to act offensively and make it so that not one bullet is fired ever again at northern communities," he told the Ynet news site.

"This is a failure, this is exactly the policy of containment of [before] October 7," he said. "Instead of dealing with nonsense, start providing security to the country’s residents."

Azoulay has in the past described his town as "the most bombarded" along Israel’s border with Lebanon. According to assessments, some 60 percent of homes and other municipal buildings in the town have been totally destroyed by Hezbollah attacks.

Kiryat Shmona mayor Avichai Stern issued a statement, asking the military’s Northern Command chief if he still believed it was safe for people to return to their homes near the border.

"I have just one question for the head of the IDF’s Northern Command, Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin, who said that nothing is preventing a return to the north. Do you still think that?" Stern said in a statement cited by Hebrew media outlets.

Arabia
US beefs up warship presence in Mideast, will have 2 aircraft carriers in region
[IsraelTimes] Amid operations against Houthis and in apparent message of deterrence to Iran, USS Harry S. Truman will remain in Red Sea and USS Carl Vinson will head to region

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, in a rare move, is beefing up the Navy warship presence in the Middle East, ordering two aircraft carriers to be there next month as the US increases strikes on the Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of...
-based Iran's Houthi sock puppets
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. On the plus side, they did murder Ali Abdullah Saleh, which was the only way the country was ever going to be rid of him...
s, according to a US official.

It will be the second time in six months that the US has kept two carrier strike groups in that region, with generally only one there. Prior to that it had been years since the US had committed that much warship power to the Middle East.

According to the official, Hegseth signed orders on Thursday to keep the USS Harry S. Truman in the Middle East for at least an additional month. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing military operations.

The ship has been conducting operations in the Red Sea against the Houthis and was scheduled to begin heading home to Norfolk, Virginia, at the end of March.

And Hegseth has ordered the USS Carl Vinson, which has been operating in the Pacific, to begin steaming toward the Middle East, which will extend its scheduled deployment by three months.

The Vinson is expected to arrive in the region early next month. It had been conducting exercises with Japanese and South Korean forces near the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan and was slated to head home to port in San Diego in three weeks.

The presence of so much US naval power in the region not only gives commanders additional ships to patrol and launch strikes, but it also serves as a clear message of deterrence to Iran, the Houthis’ main benefactor.

Hegseth’s move shifts the Vinson and its warships away from the Indo-Pacific region, which the Trump administration has touted as its main focus.

Instead, this bolsters the latest US campaign against the Iran-backed Houthis. US ships and aircraft launched a new intensive assault against the group, including a barrage of attacks over the weekend that continued into this week.

US President Donald Trump
...Perhaps no man has ever had as much fun being president of the US...
, in a marked departure from the previous administration, lowered the authorities needed for launching offensive strikes against the Yemen-based Houthis.

He recently gave US Central Command the ability to take action when it deems appropriate.

US President Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Too old and senile to be prosecuted, not too old and senile to set national policy...
’s administration had required White House approval to conduct offensive strikes such as the ones over the weekend. It did allow US forces to launch defensive attacks whenever necessary, including the authority to take out weapons that appeared to be ready to fire.

Biden went to two carriers in the region for several weeks last fall. Then-Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had ordered the Roosevelt to extend its deployment for a short time and remain in the region as the USS Abraham Lincoln was pushed to get to the area more quickly.

The Biden administration beefed up the US military presence there to help defend Israel from attacks by Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. #1  Keep in mind, though:

We've got 11 carriers.

It takes three to keep one deployed, so we're one bad day away from being out of deployable carriers.

In a flat-out emergency, we could maybe surge one more in 60-90 days, which would likely be entirely too late.

Defiant Chuck Schumer hits back at Nancy Pelosi, vows ‘I'm not stepping down'
[NY Post] A defiant Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer vowed that he will not step down from his leadership role any time soon while strenuously defending his decision to vote against blocking a GOP bill to avert a partial government shutdown.

Schumer (D-NY), 74, who has been facing a progressive revolt over his shutdown vote earlier this month, reiterated that he “did this out of conviction” and fired back at detractors such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)

“Look, I’m not stepping down,” Schumer told NBC’s “Meet the Press” in a pretaped interview that aired Sunday. “I did it out of pure conviction as to what a leader should do and what the right thing for America and my party was. People disagree.”

Critics, from both the moderate and far-left wings of the party alike, contended that the government shutdown fight was a rare instance when Dems had leverage to extract concessions from Republicans.

At noon on Sunday, New York City progressives are set to hold a rally organized by the Big Apple chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America demanding Schumer step down from his leadership post due to his actions in the shutdown fight.

Russia pounds Ukrainian port while key Russian gas pipe in Kursk explodes in huge 300ft fireball
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Putin's forces pounded a Ukrainian port with several waves of drones in an overnight attack while a critical Russian gas pipeline blew up into a 300ft fireball.

Ukraine's Black Sea port of Odesa suffered its worst onslaught of the war as Russia carpet bombed the city with drone attacks overnight, injuring at least three people.

The massive blitz set residential properties, a shopping centre, and stores ablaze and caused power outages in the Primorsky, Peresypsky and Kievsky districts.

Ukraine today claimed Putin's army triggered the biggest inferno of the war by exploding its own gas facility in a dirty tricks operation to blame Kyiv.

Towering flames at least 300ft high shot in the air at Sudzha gas pipeline metering hub in the Kursk region early Friday.

The explosion was initially seen as a Ukrainian strike during a night of hell which saw Russia attack Odesa city - but Kyiv insisted the gas explosion and giant flames were the result of artillery fire by the Kremlin's own forces.

Sudzha in Russia's Kursk region was under Ukrainian control until an advance by Putin's forces in recent days.

Today's giant explosion came as both sides have signalled their agreement to end strikes on energy facilities.

Trump unleashes AG Pam Bondi on law firms to combat 'baseless' civil litigation against president
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] President Donald Trump has threatened new actions against lawyers and law firms that bring immigration lawsuits and other cases against the government that he deems to be unethical.

Trump said in a memorandum to US Attorney General Pam Bondi that lawyers were helping to fuel 'rampant fraud and meritless claims' in the immigration system.

He directed the Justice Department to seek sanctions against attorneys for professional misconduct.

The order also took aim at law firms that sue the administration in what Trump, a Republican, called 'baseless partisan' lawsuits.

He asked Bondi to refer such firms to the White House to be stripped of security clearances, and for federal contracts they worked on to be terminated.

Legal advocacy groups sounded the alarm on Saturday following Trump's directive.

Ben Wizner, a senior lawyer at the American Civil Liberties Union, said the commands sought to 'chill and intimidate' lawyers who challenge the president's agenda.

Trump has separately mounted attacks on law firms over their internal diversity policies and their ties to his political adversaries.

'Courts have been the only institution so far that have stood up to Trump's onslaught,' Wizner said. 'Courts can't play that role without lawyers bringing cases in front of them.'

The ACLU is involved in litigation against the administration over immigrant deportations, including the expulsion of alleged Venezuelan gang members.

The Trump administration has been hit with more than 100 lawsuits challenging White House actions on immigration, transgender rights and other issues since the start of the president's second term.

Legal advocacy groups, along with at least 12 major law firms, have brought many of the cases.

A White House spokesperson, Taylor Rogers, said 'President Trump is delivering on his promise to ensure the judicial system is no longer weaponized against the American people.'

The memorandum specifically directs Bondi to assess lawyers and firms that have brought cases against the government over the past eight years.

Law firm Keker, Van Nest & Peters, which is working with the ACLU in an immigrant rights case against the administration, said in a statement that it was 'inexcusable and despicable' for Trump to attack lawyers based on their clients or legal work opposing the federal government.

Representatives from other prominent law firms that are representing clients in cases against Trump's administration, including Hogan Lovells, Jenner & Block, Perkins Coie and WilmerHale, have not yet commented.

Trump issued executive orders this month against law firms Perkins Coie and Paul Weiss, suspending their lawyers' security clearances and restricting their access to government buildings, officials and federal contracting work.

The president also last month suspended security clearances of lawyers at Covington & Burling, in each case citing the firms' past work for his political or legal opponents.

The Keker firm on Saturday called on law firms to sign a joint court brief supporting a lawsuit by Perkins Coie challenging the executive order against it.

Paul Weiss on Thursday struck a deal with Trump to rescind the executive order against it, pledging to donate the equivalent of $40 million in free legal work to support some of the administration's causes such as support for veterans and combating antisemitism.

Lawyers are bound by professional ethics rules that require them to investigate allegations before filing lawsuits and not deceive the courts.

Imposing disciplinary sanctions on lawyers who violate such rules falls on the court system, not federal prosecutors, though prosecutors can charge lawyers with criminal misconduct.

Lawyers at some companies and law firms skewered Paul Weiss online for capitulating to Trump.

Marc Elias, a former Perkins Coie partner and a top lawyer for Democrats, assailed the Paul Weiss agreement in a social media calling it 'a stain on the firm, every one of its partners, and the entire legal profession.'

In an internal email to its lawyers, Paul Weiss Chairman Brad Karp defended the agreement, saying it was in line with the firm's principles, including a commitment to remaining politically independent.

The firm, with more than 1,000 lawyers, major financial and technology industry clients and longstanding Democratic Party ties, would be free to focus on its client work now that the executive order had been rescinded, Karp said.

Karp's email included a copy of the agreement with Trump that said the firm would hire and promote lawyers based on merit.

The agreement circulated by Trump on Thursday had additional language, saying the firm agreed it 'will not adopt, use, or pursue any DEI policies.'

Legal experts said Trump's orders against Paul Weiss and another big firm, Perkins Coie, marked an unprecedented attack on their ability to do business.

The order against Perkins Coie was 'life-threatening' to the firm, its lawyer said last week in that firm's ongoing lawsuit against the administration.

Numerous lawyers, including some with links to Paul Weiss, took to social media to criticize the deal.

Molly Coleman, a former Paul Weiss summer associate and current executive director of the People's Parity Project, called the move 'unbelievably shameful' and said Paul Weiss had 'failed to find the courage the moment requires.'

'Embarrassed to be associated with this firm today,' a lawyer who previously worked at Paul Weiss, Cindy Chang, wrote in a LinkedIn comment that was later deleted.

Paul Weiss may be dealt a setback in recruiting young lawyers because of its apparent retreat from diversity commitments that have spread through law firms in recent years, and are now under attack from Trump, some lawyers said.

'This is a generation that expects to see diversity and inclusion in the workplace,' said Nikia Gray, executive director of the National Association for Law Placement.

Some lawyers aligned with Trump faced professional discipline over claims that they violated legal ethics rules in challenging Democrat Joe Biden's 2020 presidential election win over Trump.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who later was an attorney for Trump, was disbarred in New York and in the District of Columbia over baseless claims he made alleging the 2020 presidential election was stolen.

Lawyers for Civil Rights, a legal advocacy group suing the administration over deportations, called the sanctions threat hypocritical saying Trump and his allies 'have repeatedly thumbed their noses at the rule of law.'

Fifth Column
Meet the pro-CCP Marxist revolutionary group behind the Mahmoud Khalil protests
[JustTheNews] The People's Forum helped organize the encampments on Columbia University's campus. Now the well-funded pro-CCP Marxist group is organizing the protests to free Mahmoud Khalil.

Protests against the arrest of a pro-Paleostine Columbia graduate student are being organized by a Marxist revolutionary group that is pro-Communism, anti-Israel, and has potential links to the Chinese Communist Party.

Mahmoud Khalil, a leader in the pro-Paleostine and anti-Israel encampments at Columbia University, was detained earlier this month by the Trump administration, with the Department of Homeland Security arguing that he "led activities aligned to Hamas
..one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbund millipede,...
, a designated terrorist organization." The People’s Forum helped organize some of the campus chaos and is now organizing protests to free Khalil.

Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) is the pro-Paleostine and anti-Israel group that sparked many of the student encampments at Columbia University. Khalil was a lead "negotiator" for CUAD as the group occupied buildings on Columbia’s campus in the wake of the deadly Hamas terrorist attacks of October 7, 2023.

A former CUAD leader, Khymani James, said that "Zionists don’t deserve to live" and was eventually banned from campus. While CUAD initially apologized for James’s remarks, last October the group withdrew its apology and declared: "We support liberation by any means necessary, including armed resistance... Long live the Intifada." CUAD had also shared a message on Instagram stating that "we are Westerners fighting for the total eradication of Western civilization."

"Following my previously signed Executive Orders, ICE proudly apprehended and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a Radical Foreign Pro-Hamas Student on the campus of Columbia University," President Donald Trump
...The Hero of Butler, Pennsylvania...
wrote on Truth Social last week. "This is the first arrest of many to come."

The Trump Education Department has also pulled hundreds of millions of dollars worth of grants from Columbia and has provided the university with a list of demands to comply with.

Khalil’s large legal team is fighting his detention and deportation, writing in federal court that "this case concerns the government’s targeted, retaliatory detention and attempted removal of a student protestor because of his constitutionally protected speech."

THE FORUM AND KHALIL
The People’s Forum has been a driving force behind protests condemning the detention and possible deportation of Khalil. There are scores of videos posted by the forum on social media detailing the group’s role in organizing, promoting, attending, and leading the pro-Khalil protests, including a rally outside a NYC courthouse and a "sit-in at Trump Tower." Khalil’s legal team addressed the crowd at a protest organized by the forum. There is no indication that Khalil himself is involved in the protests by The People's Forum.

The communist group has connected its pro-Khalil efforts to its broader "Shut It Down For Paleostine" street protest campaign and to its fight against ICE being allowed on campus. The group said that "we will take to the streets to demand the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil and reaffirm our commitment to struggle for a free Paleostine." The forum urged supporters to be "All Out for Mahmoud Khalil."

"ZIONIST HARASSMENT CAMPAIGNS"
The forum’s leader, Manolo De Los Santos, has also personally tweeted multiple times to promote the forum-led protests for Khalil.

The forum immediately promoted a petition the day after Khalil was arrested, with the petition contending that "Khalil has been the target of various zionist harassment campaigns." Another petition by the forum — signed by a host of leftwing celebrities and activists — lamented that "Mahmoud is just the first target of the Trump Administration's newfound Anti-Semitism Task Force."

The forum is currently helping organize a "powerful event" scheduled for this weekend "in support of Mahmoud Khalil, Paleostine, and civil liberties." The group says that Khalil’s legal team and anti-Israel celebrities such as Macklemore and Alana Hadid will be there. A flyer by the forum promoting the upcoming event says, "Free Mahmoud. Free Paleostine."

THE FORUM’S "MARXIST COMRADE"
A major patron for The People’s Forum is wealthy communist businessman Neville Roy Singham.

"For months we’ve been the target of a campaign that alleges our funding comes from ’dark money.’ A few years ago we met Roy Singham, a Marxist comrade who sold his company & donated most of his wealth to non-profits that focus on political education, culture, & internationalism," The People’s Forum tweeted in December 2021.

Singham married Jodie Evans, the co-founder of the radical left-wing group Code Pink
... a U.S. anti-war group. The group describes itself as a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, stop new wars, and redirect our resources into healthcare, education, green jobs and other life-affirming activities. It was founded in 2002 by Jodie Evans, Medea Benjamin and of the other usual antiwar suspects. Its website lists hysterical allegations of US war crimes, and states that thousands of civilians were killed in Fallujah in 2004. Maybe it was millions. Benjamin was a 2000 candidate for the U.S. Senate on the Green Party ticket. She lost...
, in 2017. Her group touts itself as antiwar and has become increasingly pro-China in recent years.

The New York Times

...which still proudly claims Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...

reported that Singham works in Shanghai, that his efforts there are linked to the CCP, and that he has attended at least one CCP workshop on promoting the party globally. The outlet also reported that Singham provides backing for The People’s Forum.

The Free Beacon reported that key leaders for the forum "serve in top positions at Singham's Justice and Education Fund." The outlet also reported that the network run by Singham is also behind BreakThrough Media and Dongsheng News, who both push pro-China narratives and whose content is regularly reshared by the forum.

The Free Press reported that Singham and Evans "have donated over $20.4 million to The People’s Forum from 2017 to 2022 through a series of shell organizations and donor advisory groups — accounting for nearly all of the group’s funding." The outlet reported that the pro-China "No Cold War" group was also linked to Singham’s network. Singham was unable to be reached for comment, and The People's Forum did not respond to requests for comment from Just The News.

The People’s Forum "reported total revenue of $15,026,419, total expenses of $3,660,180, and $17,421,642 in net assets" in 2019, according to Influence Watch.

PRAISING THE CCP
The forum is openly pro-China and has produced dozens of what it describes as teaching materials, many of them pro-CCP.

The People’s Forum has repeatedly collaborated with a group called the Qiao Collective on events aimed at softening the image of the CCP and China.

The pro-CCP collective describes itself as "a diaspora Chinese media collective challenging U.S. aggression on China." The collective says: "We aim to challenge rising U.S. aggression towards the People’s Republic of China and to equip the U.S. anti-war movement with the tools and analysis to better combat the stoking of a New Cold War conflict with China. We seek to be a bridge between the U.S. left and China’s rich Marxist, anti-imperialist political work and thought in order to foster critical consideration of the role of China and socialism with Chinese characteristics in contemporary geopolitics."

THE GOP INVESTIGATES
Congressional Republicans have called for investigations into The People’s Forum, its links to the CCP, and its role in anti-Israel protests, vandalism, and violence on campus.

Republicans on the House Boodle Central wrote to the IRS
...the Internal Revenue Service; that office of the United States government that collects taxes and persecutes the regime's political enemies...
in 2023 "with growing concern surrounding the influence of America’s foreign adversaries, including the CCP, on U.S.-based tax-exempt organizations" — and specifically pointed to The People’s Forum.

Then-senator and now Secretary of State Marco Rubio
...The diminutive 13-year-old Republican U.S. Senator from Florida, Secretary of State in the second Trump administration...
told the Justice Department that year that "it appears that organizations tied to Neville Roy Singham, a U.S. citizen, have been receiving direction from the CCP." The Republican-led House Natural Resources Committee sent a letter directly to Santos, the leader of the communist forum.

"The Committee is concerned with the CCP’s growing attempts to influence U.S. policies and that the relationship between the CCP and The People’s Forum may impact The People’s Forum’s political and advocacy activities, including those relating to the abuse of free speech," politicians wrote.

The communist outfit responded to GOP calls for investigations with derision: "The political assault against The People’s Forum is part of a larger effort by Republicans and other right-wing forces in Congress to criminalize and demonize Paleostinian, Moslem-American, and anti-war organizations."

Europe
Study: Nearly a million Israelis live abroad, changing the face of European Jewry
Interesting for all involved — Israeli Jews are no doubt less reserved than the local variety, and considerably more Jewishly knowledgeable than the previous wave of Jews from the former Soviet Union.
[IsraelTimes] While most live in the US, Europe is now home to some 30% of Israelis abroad, bringing ‘significant transformation’ to local communities, Institute for Jewish Policy Research says

Nearly a million Israeli citizens and their children live outside Israel, according to a new report by the London-based Institute for Jewish Policy Research.

While most Israeli expats live in the United States, many Israelis have chosen to move to Europa
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
over the past 25 years, with profound impacts on local Jewish communities there, noted Daniel Staetsky, the report’s author and senior research fellow and director of JPR’s European Demography Unit.

The data suggests that "the Jewish Diaspora is undergoing a significant transformation," Staetsky wrote in the report. "Cultural transformation... is likely to follow on the back of the demographic change."

The report, which claims to provide the most detailed insight on Israeli expats to date, is based on information gathered between 2021 and 2023, and not reflect population changes taking place after Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
launched its war with Israel on October 7, 2023, Staetsky told The Times of Israel.

More than 82,000 Israelis left the country in 2024, according to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics. It is still too early to assess their long-term impact on the data, Staetsky noted.

About 630,000 Israelis lived outside Israel during the period surveyed, equivalent to about 6% of Israel’s population. That includes 328,000 who were born in Israel and another 302,000 who were born elsewhere but acquired Israeli citizenship and lived in Israel during their lives.

When their children who aren’t Israeli nationals are added to the calculation, there are some 955,000 "Israel-connected" people outside of Israel, the report said. About 80% of these totals are Jewish, with the remainder being Moslems and other groups.

"We can see that if all these people would have stayed in Israel, the country would have about another million people, maybe 11 million instead of the current 10 million," Staetsky told The Times of Israel. "I’m not sure that difference is so dramatic for Israel in the big picture, but others may disagree."

The largest Israeli populations abroad are based in the US, where about half of them reside, followed by Canada, Germany and the UK. About three-quarters of all Israelis outside of Israel live in English-speaking countries, the report noted.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
more Israelis than previously expected have been moving to Europe in recent years, due to a number of factors that include strengthening economies, geographic proximity to Israel, and several countries that grant citizenship to Israelis based on their ancestry, the report said.

The continent (including the UK) is now home to nearly 30% of Israelis abroad, an outsized proportion considering that only 16% of all Diaspora Jews live in the continent.

"If you look at Europe as a whole, it is clear that changing migration patterns affect the culture and character of native populations," Staetsky said. "This is natural. It’s the same thing for Jewish communities and Israelis. They are coming to a new country with a different mentality, and it impacts the communities they join."

Germany has the largest population of Israel-born people in Europe, followed by the UK, the report noted. Together, these two countries have nearly 50% of Israelis living in Europe.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia grabbed for Jane's hair to make her point. Jane elbowed her in the face in rebuttal...
many small Jewish communities have seen significant influxes of Israelis. During the past decade, Israeli-born populations have skyrocketed in the Baltic countries (135%), Ireland (95%), Bulgaria (78%), Czechia (74%), Spain (39%), The Netherlands (36%), Germany (34%) and the UK (27%), the report noted.

Israel-born Jews now make up nearly half of the Jewish population in Norway, 41% in Finland, and over 20% of the Jewish communities in Bulgaria, Ireland, Spain and Denmark.

These are communities that had previously been expected to gradually decline, due to low birthrates, aging populations and wide scales of emigration, Staetsky noted. However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
"Israelis joining these communities are helping to maintain their numeric levels and even increase them."

In the Netherlands, for example, a trickle of 200 Israelis emigrating annually serves to offset population decline in the Jewish community of 35,000, JPR noted in a separate report in January.

In contrast, Israeli-born Jews make up only about 3% of the population of 7.5 million Jews in the United States.

Jews in Europe must adapt to these changing trends, not least by increasing options for Jewish schooling in communities where young Israeli families are joining, the report said.

"The thesis of a ’vanishing Diaspora,’ even if it still holds good in its essentials at a European level, needs to be qualified at a country-specific level," the report concluded. "Diving deeper into the demography of Israelis abroad, and in Europe in particular, holds a key to that."

Staetsky offered a minor example of changing trends in Europe from his local kosher supermarket: "In London 15 years ago, you could only find Ashkenazi food, and you couldn’t find anyone who sold kubbeh. Now, all the stores have it."

Radical new tech brings flying cars closer to reality
[FoxNews] CycloTech, an Austrian aviation company, is turning heads with its BlackBird demonstrator, an electric vertical take-off and landing vehicle (eVTOL) designed to showcase a game-changing propulsion system.

Could this be the technology that finally makes flying cars a practical reality?

WHAT MAKES BLACKBIRD SPECIAL?
CycloTech isn't just building another eVTOL. It's hinging its vision on unique CycloRotor technology. What's so special about it? Well, the BlackBird demonstrator is designed to test the seventh generation of CycloTech's 360-degree thrust vectoring propulsion system.

CycloTech claims that its CycloRotor technology is the only propulsion system that can fully control the thrust vector in strength and direction throughout a complete 360-degree path. This allows the Blackbird demonstrator to have unmatched maneuverability; imagine a vehicle that can take off and land vertically, move sideways, brake mid-air and even parallel park. With six CycloRotors, the BlackBird is designed to do just that.

Also, the BlackBird's design aims to decouple the flight path from the aircraft's orientation, promising a smooth and comfortable ride even in less-than-ideal conditions without needing to bank or tilt. When it comes to safety, the Blackbird has it covered with its six CycloRotors, providing redundancy in the event of an engine failure, allowing the aircraft to continue to fly in a controlled manner. CycloTech CEO Hans-Georg Kinsky notes, "With our BlackBird, we are showing how this innovative technology will open up the market for flying cars."

#3  What the article call "CycloRotors" actually reminded me of a "Voith-Schneider propellers". Lookig further, i find that "CycloRotors" is actually an old conceptfirst used in 1928 and is used nowadays in many applications, including the CycloTech concept.

So "radical new tech", I think not.

#4  Thinking about this, I realized tat the cyclorotor concept would be great on the Osprey, replacing the dangerous 'gyroscopic propellers.

Add a third cyclorotor to the rear to help with 'center of gravity' issues.

Drug dealer executed in China for manufacturing 200 kg of banned substance
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] The Longyan City Court has approved the execution of a death sentence against a Chinese citizen who manufactured 200 kg of methamphetamine. This was announced on March 22 by the National Narcotics Control Commission of the People's Republic of China.
The objection, presumably, is to manufacture for domestic use of the modern substitute for opium, since there is no Chinese government objection to manufacturing precursors for sale abroad.
A man surnamed Lu, born in 1964, lived in a city in the eastern province of Fujian. In 2020, he agreed with a group of criminals to sell illegal substances and produced a large batch of methamphetamine. Of this, 3 kg were sold.

The Supreme People's Court sentenced Lu to death for drug trafficking and production and confiscated all his property.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 20, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly condemned China for executing four Canadians, who also held Chinese citizenship, in a drug case. The head of the Foreign Ministry did not provide any other details.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning called on Ottawa to respect China's legal sovereignty, stressing that China treats defendants of different nationalities equally and fairly handles cases according to the law.

China has a tough policy towards any drug-related crimes. The death penalty can be imposed for the production, transportation and sale of large quantities of illegal substances.

Al-Shabaab Attacks Security Base in Waajid, Somali Forces Capture Key Operative
[ShabelleMedia] Al-Shabaab militants launched an attack on a security outpost manned by South West State forces in Waajid, a district in Somalia’s Bakool region, leading to a brief but intense clash, authorities said Friday.

The firefight, which lasted for an extended period, saw both sides exchange heavy gunfire. However, South West State officials reported that their forces successfully repelled the attackers, capturing several militants and confiscating weapons.

In an official statement, South West State authorities confirmed the arrest of a key Al-Shabaab media operative, identified as Abdullahi Ahmed Mohamed (also known as Abdiasis). The suspect, who was reportedly filming the attack, has been detained in Waajid prison, where he is undergoing interrogation. Security forces also seized his recording equipment.

Additionally, local security forces said they had discovered and neutralized multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by Al-Shabaab operatives. The explosives were found near Waajid’s airport and along a key road connecting the town to the airstrip.

Authorities in Waajid have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining security and preventing further attacks by Al-Shabaab, which has been waging an insurgency in Somalia for years.

Somali Forces Launch Large-Scale Operations Against Al-Shabaab in Middle Shabelle Region
[ShabelleMedia] Somali National Army (SNA) forces, along with local militia, have launched large-scale operations against al-Shabaab
... the Islamic version of the old Somali warlord...
in several districts of the Middle Shabelle region, the military said.

General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, commander of the SNA Ground Forces, who is stationed on the frontlines, confirmed that significant efforts are underway to eliminate al-Shabaab from the region.

He praised the bravery of the SNA and local forces for their recent victories against the terrorist group.

Al-Shabaab is currently facing major offensives, with its strongholds being targeted by Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s and ground operations.

Once dominant in many parts of Somalia, the group appears to retreat, having abandoned several areas it once controlled.

Al-Shabaab has been responsible for numerous attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere in the country since it started it war against Somali government and AU troops.

Scientist Bogachev: Powerful magnetic storms are expected on Earth on March 23
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] Powerful magnetic storms are very likely to hit the Earth on March 23. This was warned on March 22 by Sergei Bogachev, head of the solar astronomy laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

He noted that since the beginning of this day, space weather in the vicinity of the Earth has already begun to deteriorate. The main reason for this was the solar wind. Solar plasma accumulates around the planet and forms currents of charged particles that destabilize the magnetosphere. Magnetic storms occurred on the morning of March 22, but have now died down.

“The resumption of strong magnetic storms, however, is expected at the turn of today and tomorrow, when the impact of the mass ejection will be added to the current influence of the solar wind,” Bogachev wrote on the laboratory’s page on the social network VKontakte.

According to his information, the Sun ejected a cloud of plasma the day before as a result of an M1.2 flare, and a very high ejection velocity was recorded. This probably unbalanced a large prominence (a dense filament of plasma), which headed towards the Earth.

“It is assumed that this particular object is currently in space and will hit the Earth within 24 hours,” the scientist explained.

The expected time of impact is between 03:00 and 06:00 Moscow time on March 23. According to preliminary estimates, the level of magnetic storms will reach class G3. The last time a comparable indicator was in early January of this year.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 11, scientists recorded a class M flare on the Sun, which is the penultimate one in terms of power. Such activity leads to magnetic storms on Earth.

Britain
Trump weighs in on British Commonwealth offer
Don't wanna be on the same ticket as Pakistain. We'd hafta learn to play cricket and wear monocles and crap like that. Ptui.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] President Donald Trump on Friday indicated he would accept an offer from King Charles to join the British Commonwealth, strengthening America's ties to the United Kingdom. 'I Love King Charles. Sounds good to me!,' Trump wrote on his Truth Social account. Trump was responding to an exclusive report in DailyMail.com that the King would make a 'secret' offer to the president for the U.S. to become the next 'associate member' of the Commonwealth.
So not an actual offer so much as rumours of a possible offer and the hope of taming President Trump by snagging his love of the British royals. Got it.
The Commonwealth, whose nations have a total population of more than 2.7 billion, is one of the world's oldest political associations of states. It is made up of 56 member states, the vast majority of which are former territories of the British Empire. They are connected through their use of the English language and historical-cultural ties. Membership is voluntary and the group is mostly ceremonial.

King Charles III is the head of the commonwealth. Trump and the King have kept a close relationship even after Trump left the White House. The two exchanged letters often. The Commonwealth proposal was originally floated in Trump's first term, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth, who Trump adored.

Now the British are reviving the plan to extend the invitation with the hope the King will personally make the case to Trump when the president and first lady make their state visit to the UK later this year. 'This is being discussed at the highest levels,' a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) told DailyMail.com: 'It would be a wonderful move that would symbolize Britain's close relationship with the US. 'Donald Trump loves Britain and has great respect for the Royal Family, so we believe he would see the benefits of this. Associate membership could, hopefully, be followed by full membership, making the Commonwealth even more important as a global organization.'

The source added: 'The Commonwealth is also a great forum for resolving differences between nations, and the King has shown that he is a natural peacemaker.' Trump is a longtime fan of the British royal family. Prime Minister Keir Starmer used that to his advantage when he visited the White House earlier this month. Starmer personally delivered the letter from the King at a meeting with Trump in the Oval Office.

In it, the King personally invited Trump to make a state visit to the UK later this year, a rare second invite for an American president. Trump made a state visit in his first term when Queen Elizabeth II was on the throne. Trump waved the letter around in front of the cameras and grandly accepted the invitation. He described the King as a 'beautiful man.'

The invitation to join the Commonwealth could also cool the tension around Canada. Trump has repeatedly said he wants to make Canada the 51st state. The country is part of the Commonwealth. The talk of turning has created enormous tensions and put the King in an awkward position. Canada is one of the 15 countries of which he is head of state.

He met new Canadian prime minister Mark Carney in London this week, in what many interpreted as a show of support. Canada is looking to the King as their head of state, and head of the Commonwealth, to speak up for them and ward off Trump. The king also hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Sandringham after Trump and Zelensky had their falling out during a disastrous meeting in the Oval Office. Trump was said to be annoyed at the king's move.

The royals have courted Trump as part of their role in keeping a strong relationship between the U.S. and UK. Prince William met with him in Paris shortly after Trump won the 2024 election when the two were in France for the reopening of the Notre Dame cathedral. 'I was very impressed by William. I think William is terrific,' Trump said after their meeting.

#13  I don't trust Daily Mail to neutrally frame a situation any further than I can throw a tantrum.

"I'll think about it, send me your proposal." is something I use often to end a sales pitch. Sounds to me like some sort of rhetoric trap, like "Well what if we offer you something disgusting as asking Canada to be a state?"

That said, what if the offer is a deciding leadership and policy directing position with said association? A sort of turn-key business acquisition?

Those two considerations deserve something better than 'fukov', plus DM being hacks and on the heels of why WWIII would be good for the UK story pivot.

Mexican Government Votes to Allow U.S. Marines to Enter Country for Training Exercises
[BREITBART] Mexico's Senate voted to approve a series of joint military exercises. In the coming days, 155 U.S. Marines will head south to train Mexican Navy infantrymen.
Training by day, running around the landscape like silent ghosts by night, sleeping some months from now? Make sure to get biometric data and connections for all the Mexican participants — which of the drug cartels started out as a group taking a special forces training course?
This week, Mexico's Senate voted unanimously for the joint exercise, which calls for 53 Mexican troops to travel to Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, for training sessions. Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum, who is from the country's ruling party, MORENA, pushed the move.
Oh. Our guys aren’t heading south for this. I misunderstood — never mind! Except for the biometrics and connections tracing stuff — we still want to do that as a matter of principle.
Information by Mexico's Naval Secretariat (SEMAR) revealed that the joint exercise is called Amphibian Phoenix 2025. In preparation for the exercises, Semar released a series of short videos showing their naval personnel boarding a ship and preparing to sail towards Baja California, where they are expected to meet with U.S. Marines for training.
Isn’t Baja in Mexico, or have I got the geography totally confused again?

Government Corruption
Update: Social Media Falsely Claims Chief Justice John Roberts Is In Secret Club of Judges
[Townhall] When a story seems too good to be true...
This article has been updated as more information became available.

According to long-time conservative activists, journalists, and the Associated Press, the "secret" society for judges and lawyers is false. Social media users falsely claimed that Chief Roberts and other high-level legal professionals were part of a "secretive, invite only club."

The outlet noted:

But the group in question — the American Inns of Court — is hardly secretive given its large public presence, and there is no evidence that members are involved in nefarious activities targeting Trump. Roberts is no longer an active member and Boasberg is the president of a chapter that is no longer affiliated with the parent association.

Here's a closer look at the facts.

CLAIM: Roberts, Boasberg and other powerful legal professionals are part of a secret, invite-only club that is working against Trump.

THE FACTS: This is false. Roberts was a member of the Edward Coke Appellate Inn of Court chapter of the organization prior to his confirmation to the Supreme Court in 2005, but he is not currently an active member of the organization, according to Executive Director Malinda Dunn.

The Inns of Court has seen many current and former Supreme Court justices, including Sandra Day O'Connor, Neil Gorsuch, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Ketanji Brown Jackson, and Clarence Thomas.

The group began in the United Kingdom with the American wing of the group being founded in 1980.

The website states that the goal of the group is to maintain and improve an ethical level of professionalism. According to its website, its mission is to "inspire the legal community to advance the rule of law by achieving the highest level of professionalism through example, education, and mentoring."

It was previously reported that Chief Justice John Roberts was linked to an elitist circle of judges and lawyers, including figures like James Boasberg, Beryl Howell, Amit Mehta, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. However, this influential group has found themselves at the crosshairs of critical social media users, who argue that these legal elites, many with close ties to powerful political and legal establishments, were part of a secret society.

A now-debunked report conducted by journalist Bad Kitty Unleashed, claimed that Roberts was involved with an invite-only club for elite, Trump-hating judges in Washington, DC.

He explained that there are four historic Inns of Court in the UK, with one—Middle Temple—receiving significant funding from George Soros, where Chief Roberts serves as a master of the bench. The U.S. has modeled a similar institution in recent decades, with many of our judges affiliated with The Edward Bennett Williams (EBW) Inn of Court. He claimed that the group operates with a high level of secrecy, even going so far as to remove most references to it from their website despite continuing their meetings. However, its website often include details about the group’s programs which often focuse on networking, education, and mentorship.

Whoops! Cori Bush''s Husband Just Got Indicted by the DOJ for COVID Fraud
More on this story from two days ago,
[REDSTATE] We haven't heard a whole lot from former Congresswoman Cori Bush
...politician, nurse, pastor, and Black Lives Matter activist formerly serving as the U.S. representative for Missouri's 1st congressional district, since 2021, and probably all years after that until she dies. The district includes all of the city of St. Louis and most of northern St. Louis County. There are few normal people to be found there. Soon after being sworn in, Bush joined The Squad, a group of Socialist Dem lawmakers intent on wrecking the country. She posted a photo on Twitter of herself, the four original Squad members, and another new member, Jamaal Fire Alarm Bowman, with the caption "Squad up."...
(D-MO) since she left office at the end of the 118th Congress (having been defeated in the Democratic primary last August by former St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell). But that doesn't mean all's been quiet in her world.

In fact, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Thursday that her husband, Cortney Merritts, has been indicted for allegedly committing COVID fraud.

In a blurb regarding the indictment, the DOJ stated:

WASHINGTON — Cortney Merritts, 46, of St. Louis, Missouri, was charged today by federal indictment with two counts of wire fraud for allegedly filing fraudulent applications with the Small Business Administration in 2020 and 2021 that allowed him to collect more than $20,000 in government funds under the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program (EIDL) and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).

The indictment was announced by U.S. Attorney Edward Martin Jr., Special Agent in Charge Amaleka McCall Brathwaite of the Eastern Region for the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of the Inspector General, and FBI Special Agent in Charge Sean Ryan of the Washington Field Office Criminal and Cyber Division.

Further details of the indictment:

According to the indictment, on July 7, 2020, Merritts received an $8,500 EIDL loan from the SBA for a moving business he operated that he called Vetted Couriers. In the application he submitted for Vetted Couriers, Merritts certified that his business had six employees and had generated $32,000 in gross revenue between January 30, 2019 and January 30, 2020.

On July 8, 2020, Merritts submitted another application to the SBA for an EIDL loan in the name of a sole proprietorship he called ''Courtney Merritts.'' In this EIDL application, Merritts fraudulently claimed to have a business that employed ten people and generated $53,000 in gross revenue between January 30, 2019 and January 30, 2020. In addition to an EIDL loan, Merritts also requested an EIDL advance of up to $10,000 based on his false claim that he had 10 employees. The SBA rejected Merritts' attempt to obtain additional EIDL funds after determining that his July 2020 application was nearly identical to the prior one he submitted.

The indictment further alleges that on April 22, 2021, Merritts applied for a PPP loan in the name of a sole proprietorship he called ''Cortney Merritts.'' Merritts fraudulently claimed in this application that he had created this business in 2020 and that it had generated $128,000 in gross income that year. Based on Merritts' representations about his gross income, Merritts received a $20,832 PPP loan. Merritts used the proceeds for his personal benefit and enjoyment. In July 2022, Merritts submitted a loan forgiveness application in which he falsely claimed that this business had 10 employees at the time of the PPP loan, and that he spent the $20,832 on payroll costs. Based on Merritts' alleged fraudulent representations, the SBA forgave the PPP loan in the amount of $20,832 and the $254.03 in interest.

There was already controversy surrounding Bush and Merritts after it came to light that Bush was under investigation for using campaign funds to pay Merritts roughly $60,000 for "security services." Bush justified the expenditure by saying she'd had difficulty finding competent staff. But Merritts, it turns out, did not have a security license.

Iraq
RUMINT: Iraq denies presence of Houthi training camp in Diyala
[Rudaw] Iraqi security forces on Thursday denied reports claiming that Yemeni Houthis are being trained inside Iraq as the United States intensifies its attacks on the Iran-backed group.

“Some media outlets have circulated news regarding the Houthis' use of a training camp in the al-Khalis area in Diyala, Iraq. While we completely deny these reports in their entirety, we call for accuracy in transmitting information,” the Iraqi military’s Security Media Cell said in a statement late on Thursday.

The Houthis, also known as Ansarullah, are an armed group part of what is known as the Iran-led Axis of Resistance. They have carried out attacks on vessels affiliated with Israel and its allies in the Red Sea since October 2023, during the Israel-Hamas War, saying their goal is to alleviate pressure on their Palestinian allies in Gaza.

US President Donald Trump’s administration has authorized attacks on the Houthis, continuing a policy begun by his predecessor Joe Biden.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani on Sunday received a call from US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. The American attacks in Yemen were part of their conversation.

Hegseth noted that while Washington “does not seek escalation,” US operations would end only when the Houthis cease their attacks that are impacting navigation in the Red Sea.

-Great Cultural Revolution
Bucking stereotypes and fighting hatred, a Syrian Jewish ex-refugee lights up Instagram
[IsraelTimes] An immigration lawyer by day, New Yorker Abraham Hamra has gained over 59,000 followers using his fluent Hebrew and Arabic to bridge gaps with adversaries and counter misinformation

Looking into the camera in one of his recent Instagram posts, Abraham Hamra says, "Arabs, peace be upon you. Many of you are DMing me through Instagram. If you talk to me calmly, if you want to speak with me like a human being, I am ready and I’ll treat you to a cup of coffee... If you insult me, I’ll insult you. I’m not a polite American Jew."

The rest of the message, the translation of which is NSFW, is even louder and more outspoken — because, as Hamra describes himself, he’s a "Loud and Outspoken Syrian Jewish ex-Refugee."

"Syrians are loud people in general. If you come to my family home for Shabbat, you think we’re going to murder each other. Like, straight out, going to kill each other. And it’s in Arabic so it might sound a little scary to people. But this is how we talk," Hamra told The Times of Israel, sitting in the conference room of his law firm just a block from the New York Stock Exchange.

Hamra, who fled Damascus with his parents and two siblings in 1994, is an attorney and managing partner at Cohen, Tucker & Ades, an immigration law firm on Wall Street. His day job revolves around helping people obtain visas, but with 59,000 followers and counting, he’s also become something of a social media star, working to combat antisemitism and misinformation about the Middle East.

To be sure, countless Jewish advocates have emerged on social media since the October 7, 2023, Hamas
..not a terrorist organization, even though it kidnaps people, holds hostages, and tries to negotiate by executing them,...
terror onslaught in southern Israel. Yet Hamra stands out not only for his boldness, but because alongside his English, he speaks fluent Hebrew and Arabic. Although he started posting in 2021 — more on that in a moment — he didn’t post a video in Arabic until after October 7.

"I had pushed to blend in, even among Jews. I didn’t want to be seen as an outsider so I didn’t speak Arabic for a very long time," he said. "When I posted in Arabic for the first time it surprised a lot of people. My friends called me in shock, saying things like, ’We always knew you were from Syria, but we didn’t realize you really spoke Arabic.’"

Distant relatives of Hamra’s recently flew to their hometown of Damascus as part of a small delegation seeking to reconnect with their roots following the fall of the Assad regime.

"It was emotional watching them back in the old Jewish quarters," Hamra said. "I do hope we have real peace one day, to enable us to go back and visit."

Hamra was 7 when his family left Syria and resettled in Brooklyn. At the time, about 4,500 Jews remained in the country. Hamra has little recollection of the departure itself, save for running up and down the aisles of the airplane eager to reunite with his "cool aunt."

He does, however, have clear memories of his childhood in Damascus. There was his grandparents’ house in Hashi Basha, Damascus’s Jewish quarter. There was his grandparents’ white refrigerator, the one in which his grandmother stored meat.

"I used to get yelled at a lot about that fridge because I would leave the front door of the house open and stray cats used to come in and try to get at the meat," he said.

He also has fond memories of Shabbat; of walking to synagogue with his family and going to the mountains for picnics afterwards.

"We sat around, just living, you know," he said.

He also has his share of not so fond memories, such as not being able to wear his kippa — the traditional Jewish head covering for men — in public because Paleostinian neighbors would verbally and physically harass him. That antisemitism, along with systemic persecution by the Assad regime, is largely what drove his family to come to the United States.

TIME TO TAKE A STAND
It was in 2021 while he was walking through Times Square that those memories of persecution resurfaced.

Hamra had just seen a trio of pro-Paleostinian men beat up a Jewish man. The man, Joey Borgen, was on his way to a pro-Israel rally while his attackers were on their way to a pro-Paleostine demonstration. The three men were later sentenced to prison.

The attack reminded Hamra of a time in Syria when he was around 4 years old and walking with his mother.

"A Paleostinian kid picked up a stone and chucked it at my head. My mother ran to the police and told them. They came, they saw me, they saw the terrorist that hit me, and they saw his mother. All they told him was, ’Hey, don’t do it again. It’s not nice,’" Hamra said.

"And now this same thing was replaying in America — the place where my family allegedly escaped to for a refuge," he said. "I decided if I didn’t speak out, if I didn’t object, then I’m helping create the same circumstances that led to my displacement. So I decided to post about it."

Since then, Hamra has made more than 760 posts on everything from antisemitism to confronting anti-Israel and antisemitic campus protests, from recent travels through Israel where he visited the Alawite Moslem village of Ghajar, to his thoughts on a two state-solution — which, for the record, he opposes.

"So you [would] have shared security and shared services, like education," he said, outlining his vision for Israeli-Paleostinian coexistence. "It would be decentralized. For example, you break Gazoo
...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response...
into different areas, like the Emirates, where each area has its own laws and is semi-autonomous. But it’s one state — Israel."

He said his opposition to a two-state solution has prompted some people to say he hates Arabs.

"I don’t hate Arabs. First of all, it’s half of my identity. The reason I’m fighting on Instagram, the reason I may sound loud and mean and confrontational is because I give a shit. I care to create the environment in which we can coexist and can live in peace," Hamra said.

Nevertheless, the fact that he’s "loud and outspoken" has both cost him and rewarded him professionally.

"In November I apologized to my partner after I realized that my talking out sunk our business about 70% in revenue," Hamra said. "I wanted to see what she wanted to do, and all she said was, ’Hey, go look at our website.’ She had taken the initiative to put the Israeli flag on the homepage page of our website with the words, ’We stand with Israel against terrorism.’"

The thing that has surprised him most in his four years on social media is how on occasion some of the most vitriolic exchanges have turned into civil conversations.

"Pro-Paleostinians will come at me in my DMs and a lot of them will have all of the worst symbols in their bios, like inverted red triangles. One guy was from Syria and I told him in Arabic, ’You think you have the grounds to challenge what I say? Look what happened to you in your Syria after you kicked out the Jews.’ I went off," Hamra said.

"He cursed me, I cursed him. Then we calmed down and we started talking more rationally. I realized I can connect one-on-one with someone, even if he’s cursing me or I’m cursing him, and eventually over time, over laughter, over jokes, maybe we can make peace and live side-by-side," he said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Satellite Images reveal key Iranian Military Sites as potential attack targets
[KhaamaPress] Satellite images show two key Iranian military sites—Parchin and Khojir—as potential targets for future Israeli or U.S. strikes.

The Alma Research Institute in Israel has reported an enhancement of Iran’s air defense systems around its key military facilities, including the Parchin and Khojir complexes. These installations are seen as potential targets for future strikes by Israel or the United States.

The institute highlighted the presence of numerous missile defense systems and radar installations in southeastern Tehran, safeguarding crucial sites like the Khojir missile production facility and the Parchin nuclear site. The Khojir complex is pivotal to Iran’s ballistic missile development, while Parchin is known for its role in advancing the country’s nuclear weapons program.

Alma further noted that both Parchin and Khojir were damaged in a previous Israeli attack, known as "Scorpion," though the facilities resumed operations after repairs. Some air defense systems at these locations survived the attack, according to satellite images released by the institute.

Israeli fighter jets conducted multiple strikes on Iranian military targets, including missile production sites and nuclear-related facilities, in early October. The strikes reportedly destroyed nearly all of Iran’s air defense systems, including its S-300 missile batteries.

Satellite imagery from Planet Labs and other sources revealed that Israel targeted critical sites, such as the Talqan nuclear facility, missile motor production buildings, and military complexes near Tehran. These facilities are linked to missile production and Iran’s nuclear weapons development.

Additionally, Axios reported that an ultra-secret research center related to Iran’s nuclear weapons program was destroyed in the attacks on Parchin. The destruction of this facility raises concerns about the security of Iran’s sensitive military and nuclear sites.
How secret can it have been, if the IAF went straight for it last year? Oh wait — remember when Mossad emptied out the warehouse archive of Iran’s nuclear program a decade ago?
According to Israel’s Channel 14, the Khojir and Parchin facilities are now considered high-value targets for potential future attacks. The institute’s satellite images indicate that these sites remain vulnerable and may become the focus of further operations by Israel or the U.S.

The ongoing situation has prompted discussions about U.S. involvement in responding to Iranian actions. Former President Donald Trump

The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both. The legitimate Yemeni government has accused the them of having ties to the Iranian government. Honest they did. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews They like shooting off... ummm... missiles that they would have us believe they make at home in their basements. , signaling possible future actions if Tehran continues its support of the militia.

The evolving air defense and military infrastructure around Iran’s key sites signify rising tensions in the region. These developments reflect the ongoing standoff between Israel, the U.S., and Iran, as both sides prepare for potential escalation. The situation remains volatile, with the Houthis’ continued provocations adding another layer of complexity to the geopolitical crisis.

Kitty Dukakis, wife of former Massachusetts governor and failed Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis, dead at 88
[NYPOST] Kitty Dukakis, the wife of former Massachusetts governor and 1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis, died on Friday at her Brookline home, her family said.

The cause of her death was said to have been complications from dementia, her son, John, told The Washington Post.

Dukakis, 88, is survived by her 91-year-old husband, Michael Dukakis, who lost the 1988 presidential election to Vice President George H. W. Bush.

She served as Massachusetts' first lady from 1975 to 1979 and then again from 1983 to 1991, during her husband's three terms as the Bay State's governor.

Kitty Dukakis, wife of 1988 Democratic presidential candidate Gov. Michael Dukakis, says she drank hair spray, after-shave and other household products to induce "oblivion" and fight depression before seeking help.

The Massachusetts first lady wrote in her new book that she ingested mouthwash, after-shave, vanilla extract, nail-polish remover and Tylenol laced with codeine before entering an Alabama clinic in April to combat her substance-abuse problem, the Boston Sunday Globe reported Sunday."The last thing I swallowed was hair spray," Dukakis wrote in her book "Now You Know," to be released this week.

Dukakis, 53, was also hospitalized last November after drinking rubbing alcohol.

White House thanks UAE for agreeing to 10-year, $1.4 trillion investment framework
[FoxNews] 'The UAE remains committed to strengthening its economic ties with the U.S.,' HH Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan wrote on X

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has agreed to a 10-year, $1.4 trillion investment framework, the White House announced on Friday, saying it will "substantially increase the UAE’s existing investments in the U.S. economy." The White House said the investments would be in AI infrastructure, semiconductors, energy, American manufacturing and more.

The White House said in a press release that the UAE agreed to the framework after President Donald Trump hosted the UAE National Security Advisor, HH Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, for a meeting in the Oval Office.

The sheikh thanked Trump for "the warm welcome and hospitality" in a post on X. He said their discussions focused on the future of U.S.-UAE relations.

"The UAE remains committed to strengthening its economic ties with the U.S. by accelerating investments in artificial intelligence, advanced technology, infrastructure, energy, and healthcare – key pillars for sustainable growth and development," Sheikh Tahnoon added.

According to the White House, investments in the framework include Abu Dhabi-based MGX, BlackRock, Microsoft and Global Infrastructure Partners working with NVIDIA and xAI to support "U.S. AI leadership." The group will mobilize up to $100 billion to support the build-out. Additionally, Emirates Global Aluminum is expected to invest in America’s first new aluminum smelter in 35 years.

'Soulless piece of crap': Angry protester jumps on stage during Dem rep's town hall
[FOXNEWS] A Democratic lawmaker's town hall was cut short after being disrupted by hotheaded protesters on Wednesday night, one of several disturbances at congressional events this week.

"You are the most soulless piece of crap I have ever seen," a pro-Palestinian protester yelled at Rep. Sean Casten, D-Ill., during his town hall in Downers Grove, Illinois, according to video captured at the event reported by CNN.

The event saw interruptions from several other individuals, most of whom were protesting issues related to Israel and Gaza.

"What you're saying is I'm not going to get my way when my people are being slaughtered, and I want you to stop funding that," the pro-Palestinian individual screamed before storming the stage where the congressman was standing.

A pro-Israel supporter, left, confronts Rep. Sean Casten while disrupting a town hall at American Legion Post 80 on March 19, 2025, in Downers Grove, Illinois.
Sure, but the Fox reporter can’t be bothered to share his/her words or the Congressman’s response with us, because who cares what a Zionist says?
After this protester and several pro-Palestinian protesters interrupted Casten, the town hall was shut down by the Downers Grove police.

"If you would like to run for office, run for office," Casten told the attendee.

Another individual approached the stage with a video camera as she yelled at the congressman. "People did not come here to hear you," Casten told the attendee. "Show some respect for the people in this district."

During the event, Casten was also confronted by a pro-Israel attendee who approached the stage. Police were eventually called to the scene, and the event was cut short.

An event hosted by Rep. Glenn Ivey, D-Md., on Tuesday saw several interruptions from constituents, who told the congressman to "fight" and "show some of the backbone and strategic brilliance that Mitch McConnell would have in the minority."

Meanwhile, also this week, Rep. Mike Flood, R-Neb., hosted an event that was disrupted by hecklers who booed any mention of cost-cutting efforts by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

19 defendants are in custody in connection with the terrorist attack at Crocus
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] At present, 19 defendants in the case of the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall are in custody. This was reported on March 22 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia Svetlana Petrenko.

"At the moment, investigative actions have been completed with 19 people accused of committing terrorist crimes, who are in custody and continue to familiarize themselves with the case materials. A number of other defendants have been put on the wanted list," the Investigative Committee's Telegram channel quoted Petrenko as saying.

The investigation concluded that the terrorist attack was organized by six citizens from Central Asia. They were arrested in absentia and put on the wanted list. The representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation emphasized that the attack on Crocus was organized by the special services of an unfriendly state in order to destabilize the situation in Russia.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on the evening of March 22, 2024, terrorists broke into the Crocus City Hall, where the concert was to be held. They opened fire on the guests and employees of the concert hall, then started a fire. As a result of the terrorist attack, 144 people were killed, and another 551 people were injured.

Four direct perpetrators of the crime were detained on March 23. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist Act"). FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov announced the involvement of the Security Service of Ukraine in the terrorist act. He called for the SBU to be recognized as a terrorist organization.

The lawyer of one of the direct perpetrators of the crime in Crocus, Dalerdzhon Mirzoev (included by Rosfinmonitoring in the list of terrorists and extremists) Oleg Vlasov said that the terrorists were studying the possibility of carrying out a terrorist attack on Red Square, as well as in a Moscow synagogue.

Investigation restores chronology of actions of accomplices in Crocus terrorist attack
[Regnum] Investigators have reconstructed in detail the chronology of the accomplices' actions in preparation for the terrorist attack committed on March 22, 2024, at the Crocus City Hall concert hall. This was reported on March 22 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia Svetlana Petrenko.

According to the official representative of the Investigative Committee, those who helped the perpetrators of the terrorist attack rent housing, provided them with transport and weapons, and financed the terrorists’ activities were brought to criminal responsibility depending on their role in committing the crimes.

“The investigation has reconstructed in detail the chronology of the accomplices’ actions during the preparation for the crime, at the time of the attack on the concert hall visitors, during the attempt to escape, right up until their detention by law enforcement officers,” the department’s Telegram channel quoted her as saying.

Petrenko added that the collected body of evidence makes it possible to draw a conclusion about the involvement of the defendants in the criminal case in the incriminated crimes.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, earlier on March 22, Petrenko said that the terrorist attack in the Crocus concert hall was organized by the secret services of an unfriendly state. According to her, the organizers recruited members of an international terrorist organization to commit the crime.

On March 22, 2024, armed terrorists stormed the Crocus City Hall concert hall, opened fire from automatic weapons on visitors and employees of the hall and started a fire. As a result of the crime, 144 people were killed, and another 551 people were injured. The Investigative Committee opened several criminal cases on this fact, including under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). Four direct perpetrators were detained by law enforcement officers on March 23.

FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov later stated that the Security Service of Ukraine was involved in the terrorist attack at Crocus. He also called for recognizing this agency as a terrorist organization.

In January 2025, the Investigative Committee reported that 27 people had been charged in the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack case. On March 3, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, announced the completion of the investigation, adding that investigators had completed their work in less than a year. The materials were handed over to the accused and their lawyers for review.

More than 1,000 candles lit in Melitopol in memory of those killed in Crocus
[Regnum] Volunteers of the "Young South" movement lit more than a thousand candles in Melitopol in memory of those killed on March 22, 2024, as a result of the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the Moscow region. This was reported on March 22 by the Ministry of Youth Policy of the Zaporizhia region.

Activists laid out the words “We remember Crocus 03/22/2024” with candles as a symbol of grief and memory of the victims of the terrorist attack.

"Today we have gathered here to light candles of memory in honor of those who fell victim to the tragedy at Crocus City Hall. This action is not just a symbol of grief, it is our response to cruelty, our way of reminding that love and unity are always stronger than any evil," said the head of the youth movement, Yulia Klimenko.

Earlier, on March 22, a memorial to the victims was opened near the Crocus City Hall concert hall. The monument is a black granite stele depicting flying cranes. It is located opposite the concert hall and the second pavilion of Crocus Expo.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 22, 2024, terrorists broke into the Crocus City Hall, opened fire on visitors and employees of the concert hall and started a fire. As a result of the terrorist attack, 144 people were killed, and another 551 were injured.

The Investigative Committee opened several criminal cases, including under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist Act"). 12 people were arrested. Currently, 19 defendants are already in custody.

In December 2024, law enforcement officers detained four Batalkhadzhin terrorists (the movement is recognized as terrorist and banned in the Russian Federation). It was established that they helped to organize a terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall. During the search, weapons were found on them, and correspondence with the leaders of the organization hiding abroad was found on their mobile phones.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 22, the official representative of the Russian Investigative Committee Svetlana Petrenko said that the terrorist attack in the Crocus concert hall was organized by the special services of an unfriendly state. According to her, the organizers recruited members of an international terrorist organization to commit the crime in order to destabilize the situation in Russia. The investigation concluded that the terrorist attack was organized by six citizens from Central Asia. They were arrested in absentia and put on the wanted list.

Footage of the first successful belly landing of a Su-34 has emerged
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
Don't we foam the runway in cases like this? The only landing like this I've ever seen was a B-52 at Cam Ranh in '68 or '69..
[Regnum] For the first time, the Su-34 crew was able to successfully land the Russian fighter-bomber "on its belly." Footage of the landing on March 22 is published by Telegram channels.

According to the Aviahub channel, this is the first time a fighter jet has landed without releasing its nose gear.

“The plane ended up being completely intact, glory to Russian steelworkers!” the publication says.

The war correspondents' channel "Russian Spring" also added that due to a malfunction, the landing gear could not be released, and the pilots decided to land the Su-34 like this. It is noted that the crew shot off the cockpit canopy on the navigator's side while still in the air in order to leave the plane, despite the stand blocking the exit.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on January 13, the Su-34 used the Kinzhal hypersonic air-to-air missile system for the first time in combat conditions during the SVO. The operation under the command of Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation, Hero of Russia Colonel Maxim Stefanov was successful.

In December last year, the United Aircraft Corporation transferred new batches of Su-57 fighters and Su-34 frontline bombers to the Russian Defense Ministry. Rostec CEO Sergei Chemezov noted that the state corporation's aircraft manufacturing enterprises are rhythmically supplying the Russian Armed Forces with aircraft equipment.

Jet crashes during South African air show

[Regnum] A jet plane crashed during the West Coast Air Show in South Africa. This was reported on March 22 by CapeTownETC.

The plane crash occurred at Saldanha airfield. During a demonstration, the pilot of the Impala Mark I made several turns in the air, after which the aircraft lost control and crashed to the ground.

It is noted that the pilot did not have time to eject and died. Spectators were not injured.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, in August 2024, a Fouga Magister collectible plane crashed during an air show in the south of France. The aircraft, used by the French Air Force from 1964 to 1980, crashed into the sea off the coast of Lavandou in the Var department. The pilot was unable to leave the plane because it was not equipped with an ejection seat.

In June, two planes from the Yakstars aerial acrobatics team collided at an air show in Portugal, killing one person and injuring another.

DIE WELT: China discussed with EU the possibility of sending its peacekeepers to Ukraine
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
[Regnum] China is discussing with European leaders the possibility of sending its military as peacekeeping forces to the territory of Ukraine.
An interesting concept. Do those considering it think Chinese troops will be better leashed than Syrian refugees?
This was reported on March 22 by the German newspaper DIE WELT, citing EU diplomats.

"China appears to be considering taking part in a potential peacekeeping mission to Ukraine. Chinese diplomats in Brussels are investigating whether such a move is possible or desirable from a European perspective," the article says.

It is noted that the European Union considered this initiative as an opportunity to obtain Moscow’s consent to the introduction of peacekeeping troops into Ukrainian territory after the end of the armed conflict.

As reported by the Regnum news agency, on March 20, the Telegraph newspaper announced the intention of French President Emmanuel Macron to send UN troops to Ukrainian territory under the guise of peacekeepers. It was specified that the French leader and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer are making efforts to attract EU countries to transfer their troops to Ukraine after the end of the conflict.

On the same day, UK Deputy Defence Secretary Luke Pollard announced that London could send its troops from the Baltic states, where, according to him, there are about 2.6 thousand British servicemen. To this, on March 21, the head of the Kyiv regime Volodymyr Zelensky responded that UN peacekeepers would not be able to protect Ukraine, and this measure would not be able to become a kind of security guarantee.

In February, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov noted that Russia had not given its consent to sending foreign troops to Ukrainian territory, and that the deployment of a peacekeeping contingent would require approval from both Kiev and Moscow. He considered the discussion of this idea a sly attempt to pump the Kiev regime with weapons again.

On March 18, Russian and US Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump discussed the settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine in a telephone conversation. The Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov later clarified that no one raised the topic of potentially sending peacekeepers in the conversation.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
'People of the same tribe.' Why the Zaporozhian Cossacks decided to live in Russia
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
by Daniil Pelymov

[REGNUM] In the year 7162 from the creation of the world,
…the Creation Era of Constantinople was observed by Christian communities within the Eastern Roman Empire as part of the Byzantine Calendar and formally retained by Eastern Orthodoxy until 1728. The Jews have their own Anno Mundi calendar, which makes this year 5785…
or in 1654 from the Nativity of Christ, in the last days of March, an embassy arrived at the court of the Tsar of all Rus' Alexei Mikhailovich from the Zaporizhian Hetman Bohdan Khmelnitsky, who had recently sworn allegiance to Moscow.

The Cossack delegation was headed by military judge Samoilo Zarudny and Pereyaslav colonel Pavlo Morzhkovsky, nicknamed Teterya. The Zaporozhians brought with them 23 petitionary articles.

In modern language, this was a draft treaty that was supposed to clarify the status of the “new territories” that were reunited with Russia as a result of the Pereyaslav Rada.

Yes, then in Pereyaslav on January 8 (18) of the same 1654, " a great multitude of people of all ranks" bowed to Tsar Alexei. But under what conditions and in what "format" did the Zaporozhian Host and parts of the former Polish voivodeships of Kiev, Chernigov and Braslav join the Russian Tsardom?

For a whole week, the Kremlin hosted "questioning" and coordination of the guests by boyar Vasily Buturlin (who had recently accepted the oath of allegiance of Hetman Khmelnitsky in Pereyaslav), and okolnichy Pyotr Golovin, and Duma clerk Yerofey Ivanov, nicknamed Almaz. As a result, two dozen Cossack petitions turned into 11 points of the treaty - the "March Articles".

“The Articles” were signed and sealed by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich on March 27 (April 6), 1654, and from that time on he called himself: “Sovereign, Tsar and Grand Duke of all Great and Little Russia, Autocrat.”

Moscow responded to the request that its co-religionists in the western and southern Russian lands formulated long before the start of Khmelnitsky’s war with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

IN SEARCH OF PROTECTION
The Zaporozhian Cherkasy (as the Cossacks were called in the Russian Empire) petitioned for Russian citizenship at least three times, during uprisings that were regularly suppressed by the Poles. This was the case under the last Rurik tsar, Feodor Ioannovich, in 1593, when the leader of the rebellious lower Cossacks, Kristof Kosinsky, bowed to him. This was also the case during the time of the first tsar from the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Feodorovich.

Petitions came to Alexei Mikhailovich’s father from the rebellious Cherkassians Karp Guzdan, nicknamed Pavlyuk (1637) and in the following year, 1638, from Yakov Iskra-Ostryanin, the leader of the peasant-Cossack rebellion on the Left Bank of the Dnieper.

Even in the relatively peaceful 1620s, delegations from the Zaporozhian Host came to Moscow. Moreover, the ambassadors were sent by none other than Hetman Petro Sahaidachny, even though his biography included campaigns against Russia on the orders of the king, for which he is revered by modern Ukrainian nationalists, and the schismatic "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" canonized him five years ago. Hetman Sahaidachny was first and foremost a politician, and therefore could not help but take into account the opinion of "his" Cossacks, and they stood for an alliance with the only Orthodox sovereign, the Russian Tsar, against the Latins.

The real defender of Orthodoxy from the union and Polish oppression, canonized by the canonical UOC, Metropolitan Job (Boretsky) of Kiev, in the same 1620s asked Tsar Mikhail to intercede for the Orthodox in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth - as for “the Russian tribe of people of the same womb.”

The reason was clear. As the Zaporozhian chronicler Samoilo Velichko wrote, the Poles "ravaged our land, plundering it clean, sparing neither the old nor the young, nor the innocent women, and all this for the Orthodox faith, and because we, the Cossacks, wanted to be free."

In the 1630s, due to the strengthening of Polish-Catholic oppression, a mass migration of Circassians to the border regions of the Russian state began - to the territory of today's Belgorod, Kharkov, Kursk and Sumy regions. Cossacks, entering the service of the Romanovs in Belgorod, Putivl or Chuguev, thus already "joined" the Russian state individually.

THREE PATHS FOR THE HETMAN
But Moscow did not dare to engage in direct combat with the then powerful Polish-Lithuanian state. And there were objective reasons for this - the country was recovering from the Time of Troubles. Let us recall that the Polish intervention began in 1609, back in the days of the "Tushino thief", and lasted until 1618, when the Romanovs were established on the throne. The war that Mikhail Fyodorovich waged in 1632-34 with the former pretender to the Russian throne, King Vladislav, for the Western Russian lands lost during the Time of Troubles also ended in failure.

Only the “explosion” of Khmelnytsky, which undermined the strength of the recent invaders and occupiers – the Poles, made it possible to begin the gathering of Russian lands.

The formal reason for the rebellion was a vendetta against the nobleman Daniel Chaplinsky, who had destroyed Khmelnitsky's farm and beaten his son half to death. The feud between the Chigirin under-starosta and the Zaporozhian commander gave rise to a war that broke out in full force in 1648.

The Khmelnytsky war became a real catastrophe for the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The defeats of the Polish troops at Zhovti Vody, Korsun, and Pyliavtsi showed that the noble monarchy was losing its grip, while the Cossack army and Little Russian self-awareness, on the contrary, were growing stronger. However, despite the successes, the forces were unequal. The leader of the Zaporozhian Cossacks understood that external support was necessary to win the war.

Khmelnitsky had three options.

Firstly, some of the Cossack elders were counting on a compromise with the West – with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth weakened by the war. The colonels counted on expanding the autonomy of the registered Cossacks – “The Army of His Royal Grace Zaporozhian”. This path would be followed a little later by the head of Khmelnitsky’s chancery – Ivan Vyhovsky, who would swear allegiance to the Polish king in exchange for a promise to create the Grand Duchy of Rus’ as part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (along with the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania).

But for Khmelnitsky, this option was clearly not an option. "The Poles did not want to give us anything, they kept saying that we were rebels and traitors, and that we should be punished with death," confirms Samoilo Velychko. And it was not only the Poles' intransigence - surrender to the Latins would have been perceived by the Cossacks themselves as a real betrayal.

Secondly, it was possible to turn to the south – to the Crimean Khan and his suzerain, the Ottoman Sultan, especially since the Cossacks had already concluded tactical alliances with the Bakhchisarai rulers. This option, although it guaranteed military support, was associated with the risk of subordination to infidels and loss of identity. And tactically, the Crimean Khanate had already let down the rebellious Cossacks.

Finally, there was the East, represented by the Russian Tsardom. The Orthodox faith, cultural closeness and military power made Moscow an attractive ally. It was this last option that was chosen after much thought and bloodshed.

"WE CAN NO LONGER LIVE WITHOUT THE TSAR"
The Tsar's ambassador to the Pereyaslav Rada, boyar Buturlin, reported to Moscow:

The Hetman himself came out under the banner, and with him the Judge and the Yasauls, the clerk and all the Colonels, and the Hetman stood in the middle of the circle... then, when they fell silent, the Hetman began to speak to all the people:

"Gentlemen, Colonels, Yasauls, Centurions and the entire Zaporozhian army, and all Orthodox Christians! You all know how God has freed us from the hands of the enemies who persecute the Church of God and embitter all of our Eastern Orthodox Christianity, that for six years now we have been living without a Tsar in our land in incessant battles and bloodshed with our persecutors and enemies who want to eradicate the Church of God, so that the Russian name would not be remembered in our land, which has already greatly bothered us all, and we see that we can no longer live without a Tsar."

And the only worthy sovereign was called not the “Tsar of Tours”, not the Khan of Crimea and not the King of Poland, but “ the Orthodox Christian Great Sovereign, the Tsar of the East”.

After Bogdan’s speech, the Pereyaslav colonel Pavel Morzhkovsky (Teteria) – one of those who would later go with the embassy to Moscow – “ walked around in a circle in all directions, asking: do you all agree to this? The entire people said: all unanimously.”

The oath in Pereyaslav, however, did not mean automatic submission. Khmelnitsky and the elders understood that clear conditions were necessary that would guarantee the preservation of Cossack liberties and autonomy. Therefore, immediately after the Rada, Khmelnitsky sent an embassy to Moscow.

SEARCH FOR A COMPROMISE
The week before the signing of the March Articles was difficult. Trubetskoy, Buturlin and other boyars understood the strategic importance of Little Russia, but sought to strengthen the tsar's power in the new territories. The Cossack embassy led by Zarudny and Teterya defended the traditional liberties of the Zaporozhian Host, seeking to preserve Cossack self-government, its own judicial system and tax policy.

Questions about the borders of the Zaporozhian Host, the size of the Cossack register, the size of the tsar’s salary and the procedure for collecting taxes caused heated discussions.

As a result of compromises and concessions on both sides, the text of the agreement known as the "March Articles" was developed, which was to legally formalize the union and define the boundaries of the autonomy of the Zaporozhian Host within the Russian Kingdom. This document became the starting point for further, often difficult, relations between the Zaporozhians and the Russian state.

The “March Articles” began with an appeal to the Tsar of all Great and Little Russia and with the phrase: “We, Bohdan Khmelnitsky… and the entire Zaporozhian Army, and the entire Christian Russian world, bow down to the face of the earth…”.

So the formula “Russian world” (i.e. “Russian world” in the Greek version of the spelling) is by no means a modern invention, but a self-identification of the Cossacks who arrived in Moscow.

Tsar Alexei confirmed the election of the Zaporozhian Hetman and the command of the army - the general elders, the independence of the military courts and the preservation of city self-government. The Hetman was still elected by the Zaporozhian army itself, and the Tsar was only notified of this decision. The Zaporozhians even retained the right to conduct "foreign policy", only relations with Turkey and Poland were under the control of Moscow.

The number of registered Cossacks, i.e. those in the service of the Russian Tsar, was determined to be 60 thousand. For comparison, the Zboriv Peace of 1648 with the Poles, which was successful for Bohdan, determined the royal register to be 40 thousand Cossacks, and the Belotserkovsky Peace of 1651, concluded after a series of defeats, cut the number to 20 thousand.

Finally, the commander of the Cossack army himself could be satisfied.

“And Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and the entire Zaporozhian Army shall be under the Tsar’s high hand according to their former rights and privileges, and shall be obedient to the Tsar’s majesty in everything” — this formula reflects the main thing: recognition of the Tsar’s authority did not abolish, but guaranteed the preservation of traditional liberties and privileges.

"THAT THEY MAY BE UNITED FOREVER"
Despite all the compromises, the main thing was achieved: 371 years ago, the mother of Russian cities - Kyiv, ancient Chernigov and other historical lands began to return to the Russian world. The beginning of the gathering of a state united by a common history, culture and faith was laid.

Now Kyiv is again at a crossroads - the "elder" who seized power followed the path of the traitors Vyhovsky and Mazepa, choosing to orient themselves toward the West. At the same time, the modern Turkish "sultan" is showing increasing interest in Ukraine. But on the Left Bank of the Dnieper, not to mention the regions of western Novorossiya, from Belgorod-Dnistrovsky and Odessa to occupied Kherson and Zaporozhye, historical memory and cultural ties with Great Russia are felt most acutely.

As for historical Little Russia, it clearly needs a new Bohdan Khmelnytsky, a wise leader who will be able to lead the people along the most favorable path, managing to once again conclude an alliance with Russia while preserving its identity. So that the call that sounded at the Pereyaslav Rada would come true: "God confirm, God strengthen, so that we may all be one forever!"

#1  OK, I have Zaparozhian leader ancestors. This is a tad bit ... tendentious.

In the 1600s Moscow was trying hard to establish defensible independence from the Tatars, even as the Ottomans continued to push northward. The tsar negotiated an agreement with the Zaparozhian cadre in which he recognized their autonomy in exchange for the Cossacks providing trained horses for his cavalry and defending against incursions from the East.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians including some Cossacks thought they had a mutual autonomy agreement with the Poles/Lithuanians. It didn't work out well for them.

Eventually Catherine the Great demanded that the Zaparozhians be integrated with the russian military, which occurred.

Tim Walz: We Are Back to Segregation Without the Department of Education
He sure says stupid stuff.
[BREITBART] Governor Tim Walz
...Kamala's smarmy-looking VP running mate, governor of Minnesota, who decided to retire rather than to deploy with his National Guard unit, then claimed to have been in Iraq and Afghanistan. One man's socialism is another man's neighborliness....
(D-MN) claimed Thursday on MSNBC’s "The Rachel Maddow Show" that schools could segregate without the existence of the Department of Education.

Maddow said, "What’s your reaction to closing the Education Department today?"

Walz said, "Well, we knew it was coming, but it’s still a day that I dreaded. I dreaded it as a teacher, as a parent, certainly as a governor now. And the sad part for me about this is Donald Trump
...dictatorial for repealing some (but not all) of the diktats of his predecessor, misogynistic because he likes pretty girls, homophobic because he doesn't think gender bending should be mandatory, truly a man for all seasons...
doesn’t know anything about education. This has been a long time dream of the far right to crush the public education system, to take that money and transfer it to private schools that don’t exist in in a lot of areas or rural areas. And then and to undermine some of the missions of the Department of Ed, making sure everybody gets an education regardless of race, religion or abilities."

He added, "It’s about the Civil Rights Department in the Department of Education that makes sure that we don’t have a situation where a Ruby Bridges is escorted to school with police. And so we’re we’re back in an area where we can segregate. And he knows he knows that curriculums and those decisions are made on a local basis, but they muddy the waters."

Although a mechanism to transfer funding into Mississippi and Louisiana schools will, likely, remain, curriculum controls and drives like No Child Left Behind will be canned. Dem firm Paul Weiss vows to adopt political neutrality, cut DEI after Trump threatens security clearance
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Left-wing law firm Paul Weiss, which previously worked against President Donald Trump
...The cad! Twice caught beating wimmin!...
during his first term, has reached a deal with the White House after Trump ordered to have their security clearances revoked with an executive order. The firm has promised to cut DEI, become politically neutral in hiring, among a range of other promises.

Brad S. Karp, chairman of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, has a long history of supporting Democrats
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
. He sought to organize major law firms to challenge policies by the Trump administration that may be vulnerable to certain legal arguments, such as those related to immigration. In 2023, Karp hosted a ''Lawyers for Biden'' fundraiser, and a top partner at his firm helped prepare Vice President Kamala Harris
What can be, unburdened by what has been
for her debate with Trump.

Trump recently issued an executive order barring the firm from working with the federal government and suggesting that its clients could lose government contracts. The move threatened the firm's business, prompting Karp to initially explore a legal challenge.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
on Wednesday, Karp met with Trump in the Oval Office to negotiate a settlement. The next day, Trump announced that Karp had pledged $40 million in "pro bono legal services during [Trump's] term in office to support causes including assisting ... veterans, fairness in the justice system, and combating anti-Semitism; and other similar initiatives.''

Trump cancels 'parole' program for Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, Venezuela, tells 532,000 migrants to self-deport
More on this story from yesterday.
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] The Trump administration has brought the Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela

...a country in Central America that sits on an enormous pool of oil. Formerly the most prospereous country in the region, it became infested with Commies sniffing almost unlimited wealth. It turned out the wealth wasn't unlimited, the economy collapsed under the clownish Hugo Chavez, the murder rate exceeded places like Honduras and El Salvador. A significant proportion of the populace refugeed to Colombia and points south...

(CHNV) immigration parole program to an end, ending work permits and legal status that some immigrants colonists have had as they were brought into the US under the Biden administration.

Under the policy, a total of 532,000 immigrants colonists from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, and Nicaragua were brought into the United States, according to a memo released by the Department of Homeland Security ending the policy as framed by an executive order that President Donald Trump
...Never got invited to a P.Diddy party...
signed on his first day in office.

The Trump administration has also encouraged those now illegally in the US to self-deport after the program's end, with the memo noting, "Parolees without a lawful basis to remain in the United States following this termination of the CHNV parole programs must depart the United States before their parole termination date."

DHS said the agency "is terminating the categorical parole programs for inadmissible aliens from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela and their immediate family members" that the DHS "announced in 2022 and 2023" under Biden. All protections for those who were admitted under the program end on April 30. DHS will also seek the arrest and deportation of those who ignore the policy change and do not depart from the United States.

"These programs do not serve a significant public benefit, are not necessary to reduce levels of illegal immigration, did not sufficiently mitigate the domestic effects of illegal immigration, are not serving their intended purposes, and are inconsistent with the Administration's foreign policy goals," the DHS notice added, highlighting that the parole program is typically used for "urgent humanitarian reasons," on a case-by-case basis instead of allowing for mass migration.

Disney's woke Snow White debuts to empty theaters, gets universally panned
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] Disney's live-action remake of Snow White starring Rachel Zegler, which has been hit by conservatives as a "woke" version of the original movie, is projected to have one of the worst launches from Disney in recent years. Some reports have shown theatres nearly empty as the film has been mired in controversy.

Leading up to its initial release, the movie got an initial score of 47 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and Thursday previews only brought in $3.5 million. The film is projected to earn around $45 million on its opening weekend, according to the Daily Mail. The Dumbo remake, which Disney launched in 2019, only made $45 million on its opening weekend. The Dumbo remake, however, only cost $170 million in expenses. Snow White, on the other hand, cost around $250 million to put together.

Some X users over the opening weekend posted videos of empty theatres and low ticket sales in their respective areas. User Dr. Sydney Watson wrote in a caption with a video on Friday, "My Snow White screening lookin' a little empty."

Another user posted a screenshot of ticket sales in his area, which showed relatively low numbers. "Theaters where I am are mostly empty for this film," the user wrote.

Kangmin Lee posted a screenshot of ticket sales in his area and wrote, "Opening Friday night for Disney's Snow White in IMAX. Only ONE person bought tickets for tonight. Yeah this movie's gonna flop."

Trump admin to cut Small Business Admin staff by 43%
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] The Small Business Administration (SBA) plans to cut its workforce by 43 percent as the agency is going through a widespread restructuring much like other government agencies as the Trump administration works to cut back on spending and bureaucratic bloat.

SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler announced on Friday that around 2,700 jobs will be cut from the staff of 6,500. ''The SBA was created to be a launchpad for America's small businesses by offering access to capital, which in turn drives job creation, innovation, and a thriving Main Street,'' Loeffler said in a statement. "But in the last four years, the agency has veered off track — doubling in size and turning into a sprawling leviathan plagued by mission creep, financial mismanagement, and waste."

"Just like the small business owners we support, we must do more with less. We have therefore submitted plans to pursue a strategic restructuring that will realign the agency and its resources with our founding mission," Loeffler added in a statement.

In a video posted to X, the SBA administrator also emphasized that the workforce has doubled since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and that there are often "rows of empty desks" at the SBA building with many staffers working remotely.

#1  Kelly Loeffler delivered a MAGA result. That’s encouraging. Can’t be a big deal as no lib judge has issued a TRO yet.

#2  I've owned a small business for almost forty years.

SBA has done nothing for me.

In terms of numbers, it has done nothing for most small businesses.

It has, however, provided lots of sinecures for otherwise useless people in government employment.

The purpose of a system is what it does. The name don't matter. Except to provide cover. How can you be against Small Business? How can you be against Education or Nationally Endowing Democracy?

NYU implements hiring freeze in advance of potential Trump admin funding cuts
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] New York University (NYU) has imposed a hiring freeze and directed its subsidiary schools to prepare contingency plans in case it loses federal funding. According to NYU's student newspaper, the Washington Square News, on Wednesday the Trump administration announced it would investigate NYU over its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

On Monday, NYU President Linda Mills wrote in an email to faculty and staff, ''We don't yet know whether, when or to what extent these or other measures may be enacted,'' concerning changes to policy or programs in response to the cuts. She added, ''In the meantime, we continue to vigorously advocate for robust federal support of higher education. Given the scale of potential outcomes, however, we need to address risks sooner than later.''

Mills also warned faculty to expect lower salary increases than in recent years, and that the university is considering other methods of generating revenue to ''help offset likely losses.'' She concluded the letter by writing, ''Despite the fiscal challenges ahead, we are committed to preserving our core mission of teaching, learning, and research, and to supporting our community.''

Last week, the Department of Education announced that NYU and dozens of other universities across the US were being investigated for their diversity, equity, and inclusion programming and that any school that continued its DEI content was at risk of losing federal funding.
That sounds like NYU has chosen DEI as its hill to die on, ignoring Trump’s objection to coddling protesters and persecuting Jews.

So University's getting $$$Million$ from the USA Taxpayers, to educate turn out the best future leaders of America. Openly supported DEI applicants based primarily on Color, Race and etc. over other students?

Isn't that still called Discrimination?

So, if a DEI student has less than the needed education needed to pass the entrance requirements. Then the University knew it was just taking $$$$$ from the Taxpayers, for students pre-deposed to fail and/or quit?

OR did the UNIV plan on graduating some DEI students, unable to meet the requirements of the degree, and tarnish the reputation of the other UNIV students?

Trump admin revokes visa of Cornell student that took 'cue from the armed resistance in Palestine,' called for America's destruction
Follow up to this story from yesterday.
[THEPOSTMILLENNIAL] The visa of Cornell University graduate student Momodou Taal has been revoked by the Trump administration. Taal, a British and Gambian dual national who began studying in at the school in 2022 on an F-1 student visa, has repeatedly called for the destruction of the US and for terrorism against Israel.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, a State Department official said that Taal no longer holds an F-1 visa. In a court filing, his lawyers said that the administration has asked Taal to surrender to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials in upstate New York for deportation proceedings. They wrote that the Department of Justice sent an email at 12:52 am on Friday, which stated, "ICE invites Mr. Taal and his counsel to appear in-person at the HSI Office in Syracuse at a mutually agreeable time for personal service of the NTA and for Mr. Taal to surrender to ICE custody."

Taal's attorneys have requested an emergency temporary restraining order, claiming that Taal was being targeted over a federal lawsuit he filed on Saturday against an executive order from Trump that calls for the visas of foreign students who support terrorism to be revoked.

Per the Free Beacon, in a 2024 anti-Israel campus demonstration, Taal called for fellow protestors to take their "cue from the armed resistance in Palestine," adding, "We are in solidarity with the armed resistance in Palestine from the river to the sea."

In the wake of Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 and hundreds being taken hostage, he wrote, "The dialect demands: That wherever you have oppression, you will find those who [are] fighting against it. Glory to the resistance!"

In 2022, before he got his student visa, Taal wrote online, "The end of the US empire in our lifetime in sha Allah." He wrote in another post issued shortly after receiving his visa, Taal wrote, "Student Visa issued. We going to America baby! Alhamdulillah," posting shortly after, "My hatred of the US empire knows no bound. Wallahi."

#1  So Cornell U. (NY-D) HAD a student calling for Open Aggression against the USA and our citizens. He appears to have come here with that Anti-USA agenda, prior to Oct. 7th.

As we have seen, when a Pro-Islamic radicals start calling for attacks of a country, that includes every non-Islamic person in it.

So, I wonder how the other Cornell students feel about him calling for their deaths? I also wonder why any Cornell student, or US Lawyer would seriously protest his deportation?

The Bigger Question:
I wonder how many Sleeper Cells of these Islamic Terrorist agents are already here thanks to the Democrats coup clearly stealing 2020 and their Open Borders that allowed 10.5 Million to flow in over 4 years?

Protests and Arrests continue in Turkey as protests enter third day; Mayor Iamaoglu questioned by police for hours
[Yahoo] March 22 (UPI) -- Turkish police arrested at least 343 people during the overnight hours Friday and Saturday for participating in mass protests in several cities in Turkey.

The arrest of opposition leader and Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu on Wednesday sparked the multi-day protests that got underway on Thursday, CNN reported.

He is viewed as current Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's primary challenger for the nation's presidency.

...Turkish authorities also arrested about 100 others who are connected to Imamoglu, including his press adviser Murat Ongun.

Imamoglu and many others who were arrested are accused of embezzlement and corruption tied to Imamoglu's construction company.

He has denied those charges and others accusing him of terrorism for allegedly collaborating with a leftist political coalition prior to local elections held in 2024.
The Times of Israel adds:
Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu appeared before police for questioning on terror-related charges on Saturday, a day after his interrogation over corruption allegations. His arrest this week has sparked widespread protests across The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
member, but not the most reliable...

, with demonstrators rallying in multiple cities to voice their opposition.

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya posted on social media that 343 suspects were tossed into the calaboose in protests in major cities on Friday night, adding "There will be no tolerance for those who seek to violate societal order, threaten the people’s peace and security, and pursue chaos and provocation." The cities listed included Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Canakkale, Eskisehir, Konya and Edirne.

The mayor, who is a popular opposition figure and seen as a top challenger to President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
, was detained on Wednesday following a dawn raid on his residence over allegations of financial crimes and links to Kurdish holy warriors. Dozens of other prominent figures, including two district mayors, were also detained.

Imamoglu is also under investigation for "bribery, extortion, corruption, aggravated fraud, and illegally obtaining personal data for profit as part of a criminal organization."

Many view the arrest as a politically driven attempt to remove a popular opposition figure and key challenger to Erdogan in the next presidential race, currently scheduled for 2028. Government officials reject accusations that legal actions against opposition figures are politically motivated and insist that Turkey’s courts operate independently.

On Saturday, police questioned Imamoglu for some five hours as part of an investigation into allegations of aiding the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, the Cumhuriyet newspaper reported. A day earlier he was questioned for four hours over the corruption accusations. The mayor rejected all charges during both interrogations.

He was transferred to a courthouse on Saturday afternoon for questioning by prosecutors and to face possible charges.

Several hours before his appearance, the authorities announced they were sealing off the main roads leading to the court.

[ NY Post] 48 Hr Rule
The former US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia was found dead Saturday morning by police who are now investigating the shocking demise of the high profile lawyer, according to reports.

The body of Jessica Aber, 43, a Biden appointee who resigned her position in January as President Trump took office, was discovered at her home by Alexandria Police Department officers just before 9:20 a.m. Saturday morning, according to Fox News.

The circumstances of the death remain under investigation, according to the APD, NBC Washington reported.

The current US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia mourned the shocking loss in a statement issued Saturday afternoon.

Prior to being named US Attorney for EDV, Aber was an assistant US attorney in the district starting in 2009. She then served as counsel to the assistant attorney general for the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice from 2015 to 2016.

Trump Revokes More Security Clearances. Some Big Names Are on the List.
More on this story from yesterday.
[Townhall] President Donald J. Trump decided to revoke the security clearances of many people, including some top Democrats
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
. Crooked Hillary Clinton
...former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away. Politix is not one of her talents, but it's something she keeps trying to do...
, Antony Blinken
...71st United States secretary of state and a leading light of the corrupt and inept Biden administration. He previously served as deputy national security advisor from 2013 to 2015 and deputy secretary of state from 2015 to 2017 under the corrupt and inept Obama administration. He advocated for the 2003 invasion of Iraq while serving as the Democratic staff director of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee from 2002 to 2008. He was a foreign policy advisor for the Biden 2008 presidential campaign. During his tenure in the Obama administration, Blinken helped craft B.O.'s policy on Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the nuclear program of Iran. We all saw how well each of those worked. After leaving government service, Blinken moved into the private sector, co-founding WestExec Advisors, a lobbying firm...
, Alvin Bragg
...Soros-owned and operated Manhattan DA. Putting vicious and blood-thirsty criminals in jail only makes them unhappy, and they've led such hard lives after all...
, Adam Kinzinger, Alexander Vindman, and Joe The Big Guy Biden
...46th president of the U.S. Joe's wife and daughter weren't killed by a drunk driver. He didn't graduate with three or even two degrees, wasn't in the top half of his law class, and his daddy didn't come home from a hard day's work in the mines and play football with the guys. The NAACP hasn't endorsed him every time he's run....
. The entire Biden crime family got stripped of their clearances. Kamala Harris
who got her start in politix between former Oakland mayor Willie Brown's' knees
is also without a clearance.

The inner circle of the plot to imprison him on bogus charges has lost those privileges, as they should. They don’t need them. They’re not running things right now. It made CNN
...formerly the Cable News Network, now who know what it might stand for...
angry, so my night has been made.

The liberal media is going to go on about how this is partisan blah blah blah—we know, guys. This is what we voted for, and we love it. We want Dire Revenge. Second, it’s not like we’re unaware of these implications. We don’t care. We know who Trump is, as does the rest of the country, and the nation still voted for him despite the election denialism exhibited by the Left.

Horrible people lost their security clearances. It was a long time coming, and it couldn't happen to a more deserving group.

#1  I'm sorry for the off-topic post, but I don't know how to post a new topic.

Apparently the prohibitive favorite in the NCAA wrestling finals LOST to the 3-seed. That alone wouldn't make it "news". But my sources tell me that Stevenson (the heavy favorite) confronted the 3-seed before the match because he came out waving an American flag, and President Trump was in attendance.

Wyatt Hendrickson of Oklahoma State *beat* the huge favorite with a take down in the last 30 seconds. Once he won, he stood up and saluted President Trump, and later got to shake his hand.

I don't know how to post this story, but it belongs here. Here's the Yahoo story:

#3  Crusader, here’s how to post a link in a comment:

1. hHghlight and copy the URL that you want to share. Note that in many cases, a really long URL contains all sorts of coded information about you that has nothing otherwise to do with wherever the link points. So check to see if only that part of the link to the left of the question mark actually works to get to the webpage, and if so, only copy that part for this step. (If one of Rantburg’s computer mavens would translate that out of end-user fumbling for me, I would be grateful!)

2. Open and start a comment. Type a word or phrase to which you will attach your link. I used Link in your comment, above, but the title of the article would do just as well.

3. Highlight your chosen word or phrase.

4. Click on the link icon below the comment box — it looks like binoculars or two links of a chain below a little blue-and-green globe.

5. A little drop-down window will appear, telling you to enter the URL. In the box you will see a place-holder http:// . Highlight it, then paste your URL on top of it. Click
OK. All done! :-)

NB: It’s really important to highlight and paste over the place-holding http://, otherwise the URL will not work.

If the question you really wanted answered is how to post a separate article, with or without a block of text:

At the top of the main Rantburg pages (1-5), right under the logo, you’ll see

Post a news link Post your own article

Click on whichever fits your needs, and you’ll get a page with blanks to fill in. There are all sorts of formatting thingies along the top, then three drop-down menus for subject/country, page, and organization. Next a box wherein you’ll type in or copy/paste your headline, below that a box for pasting in the article text if you want it — that’s where you’ll add any highlighted in-lines (making sure to start each on on a separate line rather than continuing from the previous sentence), adding all the formatting stuff…

In the Source box you’ll paste the URL. Below the date type in your name/nym if it did not automatically appear when you opened the thing. And if it is after 2:00 p.m. ET, click on Tomorrow at the far left to reset time and date.

At the top left click on Preview to make sure it looks the way you want. Make any changes necessary, check Preview again, then click Submit.

Hopefully one of the above answered your question, my dear.

There are Way Too many DC Swampers and former GOV personnel that still have NO need of a security ticket. Plus are violating their DISA-DOD-NS NDA's.

Eg. Biden doesn't even know who Biden is. So why could he need a Crimson clearance?

Why not have an automatic revoke & mandatory NDA Rule?

Al-Shabaab briefly Seizes Sabiid Near Mogadishu, 80 Shaboobs toes up in counterattack
[Garowe] A senior Somali Army commander, Mohammed Nur, known as Jareere, and several of his bodyguards were killed in a kaboom by al-Shabaab
... the personification of Somali state failure...
murderous Moslems Thursday morning near No. 50 area in the Lower Shabelle region.

The commander, along with his troops from the SNA's 14th October Division, had been traveling from Awdheegle town to reinforce the troops in Sabiid, about 40 kilometers southwest of Mogadishu after it was attacked by al-Shabaab krazed killers.

Reports indicate that Nur and at least five of his bodyguards were killed when their convoy was struck by an improvised bomb (IED) between Awdheegle and Sabiid. Several others were maimed in the blast.

The situation in Sabiid and the nearby town of Caanoole outside Afgooye district remains tense, with both residents and security forces working to regain control of the area from the krazed killers.

Somali Government forces have launched counter-offensives to secure the area after al-Shabaab withdrew.

Earlier this month, al-Shabaab grabbed credit for an ambush that killed another senior Somali Army officer, Abukar Abdulle "Garmaqate," near the village of Boos Hareeri in the Middle Shabelle region.

Germany welcomes immigrants, but deports criminals: State minister interviewed
[Rudaw] A German state minister said on Thursday that her country will remain hospitable toward Syrian immigrants colonists, but warned that those who commit crimes will be expelled.

Diversity makes Germany more "colorful," said Sabine Sutterlin-Waack, minister of interior in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. "But those who disrespect our hospitality, I must clearly say, have no business here in Germany."

The party that won Germany’s recent federal parliamentary election has vowed to introduce stricter immigration policies.

Sutterlin-Waack spoke with Rudaw’s Alla Shally at a celebration for Newroz, the Kurdish New Year.

"Kurds have adapted very well to Germany," the German minister said, adding that it is her second time participating in a Newroz celebration.

On the situation in Syria, Sutterlin-Waack explained that more time is needed to assess whether the country is stable or not. She was cautious about backing the interim government in Damascus, saying that Germany should provide support in a way that "terrorism in Syria does not continue."

"I think we should wait and see how the situation in Syria develops, whether peace really comes and the civil war really ends," she said.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was in Damascus on Thursday to re-open Berlin’s embassy, 13 years after it was closed.

Below is the full transcript of the interview:

Rudaw: Hello Ms. Sutterlin-Waack, thank you very much for being with us. Your Excellency, today, as the minister of interior of this region, you participated here in the celebration of Newroz, which is an important holiday for the Kurds and means resistance. You made a speech. What do you see as the importance of holding this celebration here?

Sutterlin-Waack:
I think it is very important that we celebrate together here, because the Kurds have adapted very well to Germany, so it is important to celebrate some of their special identities here in Germany together. I am also happy to be able to participate in this celebration for the second time.

Ms. Sutterlin-Waack, I would like to ask you about the Kurds of Rojava [northeastern Syria]. A large number of Kurds live here who have been able to adapt well and work here, but at the same time there are many voices of politicians who say that now, after toppling [Bashar] al-Assad, they must return to their country. What do you say about this?

In my opinion, we have to wait a bit. We have now heard terrible news from Syria. At first, we all had great hope that the Assad regime would be gone. We still have great hope that peace will come, that the civil war will end, but unfortunately we have heard bad news in recent days. So I think we should wait and see how the situation in Syria develops, whether peace really comes and the civil war really ends. There are also many Syrians who have adapted very well here. We need many people who come from other countries and make our society colourful and live in diversity, because diversity helps us to move forward.

Well, Ms. Minister, now Germany and other European countries support the Syrian government, but that government does not give the Kurds their rights, what do you say about that?

I always say that one certainly supports someone who really works for peace and democracy, and we have to look at that carefully. As I said now, this is important to us and we must simply say that terrorism must end. I am also the minister of interior. I am responsible for internal security. In Germany, of course, we need to take a close look at who is coming to our country. And we need to know exactly who we are supporting, so that terrorism in Syria does not continue.

You mentioned terrorism. The Kurds in Syria fought very bravely against terrorism. Now there are no rights for the Kurds in the interim constitution of Syria. What is your position?

We in Germany have very strong protection for minorities, especially here in Schleswig-Holstein in the north. I come from a more northerly region than here in Kiel. We have very strong protection for the Danes living in Germany, and for the Germans living in Denmark. So we live among minorities and I think some countries can treat minorities a little more carefully. The Kurds are a component of Syria and I think that the new Syrian state, whatever it may be, hopefully peace and democracy, can consider minorities as well. This also has to do with diversity and they are part of the identity of the nation.

Okay, let me come back to Germany. The issue of migrant policy was a very hot topic during the election and now the future government has agreed on this issue. As minister of interior, is it so easy to deport those migrants colonists who are from Afghanistan or Syria and commit crimes here?

My clear position, anyone who commits a crime here in Schleswig-Holstein must be expelled from Germany. This is not acceptable. Our people are afraid and this cannot be done and we do not want it either. This means that those who commit crimes must be expelled. This is very clear. Although this is not always easy, we both know that, but we must work on it. And those who have the right to stay can stay here because their lives are still in danger. I support the German asylum law, this must remain and we must take it into account. We want that. But those who disrespect our hospitality, I must clearly say, they have no business here in Germany. They must leave.

On the issue of migrant policy, one of the important points was border control. Is this now agreed upon in the negotiations? Will it be implemented?

This is difficult, but of course it can be done. It would be better if we controlled the external borders of Europe, because we have the Schengen Agreement, which we fought very hard for a long time so that we have no control within Europe, now it is in danger. But this is obviously difficult at the moment and that is why we in Germany control the borders. Although we will never be completely successful, because it is not so easy, we have to see who comes to Germany.

The stability of internal security is another important issue in Germany. How do you want or what is your plan to protect internal security at a time when, as you mentioned, people are afraid?

Internal security is now a very broad topic. At the conference of interior ministers, we are always busy with that. We must know that those who adapt themselves to us, can stay here according to German law. I am a lawyer, I am bound by all German laws. They must adapt themselves here. We must help them in that, this is natural. We also need people to work for us. We just talked about the young man you mentioned. We need people to work here. Our numbers are constantly decreasing and we are constantly getting older and we need diversity. But as I said, those who commit crimes, who have committed crimes, must leave Germany. I strongly believe in that.

So you want to focus on the arrival of immigrants colonists through legal channels?

Legal immigration, of course. We need to think carefully about this again, whether it can be done through asylum or through work. There are some overlaps there that I would like. If we have people who can live well and work well here, then we must try to keep them here. There are so many decent, friendly and skilled people coming to us from other countries, and we have to be careful about them, but as I said, I have said it many times now, those who commit crimes have no business with us.

My last question to you, madam minister of interior, the [far-right Alternative for Germany] AfD party has doubled its votes. How dangerous do you see this?

I see this as a great danger and it is very disturbing. Fortunately, the AfD party is not in the Schleswig-Holstein parliament. The AfD is not in the state parliament. In the last state parliamentary election, we were able to remove them. They were there before, but now they are gone. And of course it is disturbing, but every voter who votes for that party is certainly not a Nazi. That is true. But some of their voters might be Nazis. And how one cannot forget Germany's past. I was just at the memorial site at the very end. I can say, how can you forget what happened and deny it and also say it's not all true. This is incomprehensible to me and this is what worries me a lot, because they want to completely change our state system. And they want to change our democracy. They want to change freedom of opinion. Everything that is very important to us, which has been with us for 75 - 80 years in Germany, as well as in Schleswig-Holstein, that must be changed and we must resist it with all our might.
