Al-Qaeda leader's brother condemns Mali operation
2013-01-24
[Ynet] The brother of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri on Wednesday sanctioned violence against the West in retaliation for the French-led campaign against snuffies in Mali, saying the US and Europe are "making jihadists."

Mohammed al-Zawahri, one of Egypt's most influential jihadi leaders, made his comments in an interview with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named in Cairo, in the wake of the bloody four-day hostage crisis in Algeria, in which al-Qaeda-linked snuffies seized a gas plant in retaliation for the campaign in Mali.

Ayman's uncle has a heart attack
2004-08-14
Al-Qaida No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahri's uncle, who won a number of national medical awards, has died of a heart attack, Egypt's leading newspaper reported Friday.
Do they accept a JDAM in lieu of flowers?
Dr. Mohammed al-Zawahri, a dermatologist who received the presidential Award in Medical Sciences and the Republic's First Class medal, died Thursday in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria, Al-Ahram reported. It did not give his age. The paper, which is close to the Egyptian government, did not mention the blood relationship between the doctor and Osama bin Laden's deputy and closest aide, Ayman al-Zawahri. However, Mahfouz Azzam, another uncle of al-Zawahri, told The Associated Press that Mohammed al-Zawahri was considered the "chief" of (Ayman) al-Zawahri's family. Montasser el-Zayat, an Egyptian attorney who defends Islamic radicals and who spent three years in prison with Ayman al-Zawahri, told the AP the dermatologist was the uncle of the man believed to have provided much of the ideology driving al-Qaida since his Egyptian Islamic Jihad merged with bin Laden's terror network in 1998.

Egypt Admits Holding Brother of Al Qaeda’s No. 2
2004-03-04
Pretty neat. We had the info Saturday.
Egypt acknowledged for the first time Thursday that it is holding Mohammed al-Zawahri, the brother of Al Qaeda’s No. 2 man. Al-Zawahri had been believed to be in Egyptian police custody for at least three years, but the government never acknowledged it. He was sentenced to death in absentia for his role in Islamic Jihad attacks inside Egypt. Interior Minister Habib el-Adly said al-Zawahri would stand trial soon but did not say when. Ayman al-Zawahri, the top aide to Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden, allegedly once led the military wing of Egypt’s Jihad group. He also was sentenced to death in absentia in 1999.

Ayman's bro to be retried in Egypt
2004-02-28
A brother of Al-Qaeda terror network number two, Ayman al-Zawahri, already sentenced to death in absentia by an Egyptian court, will be retried here, a court official said Saturday.
One question: why? Given that this is Egypt, the sentence is unlikely to change ...
It's double secret probation!
Mohammed al-Zawahri, a member of the Islamist Al-Jihad movement led by his brother Ayman, was extradited to Egypt by an Arab country in 2001 and is currently being held in an Egyptian prison, the official said.
Be mighty interesting to learn which "Arab country" this was and whether or not it was before or after 9/11. One possibility is Sudan, where the EIJ was based throughout the 1990s.

Mohammed al-Zawahri, head of Jihad's military wing, was sentenced to die in 1999 in a trial of 107 people accused of "belonging to Jihad and working to overthrow the regime" of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, the source said.
Sounds about right ...

The official was unable to say when the new trial would begin.
"We'll get to it as soon as he stops screaming ..."
