#1 I can understand the pistols and the ammo, but I do not understand where the potassium chloride (potassium salt) fits in. Maybe they meant potassium chlorate, which is a righteous oxidizer. When mixed with a few other ingredients it produces turbocharged gunpowder.

#2 Isn't KCl also known as Saltpeter?...

#3 No, Saltpeter is Potassium Nitrate (KNO^3). Potassium Chloride is just salt. In case you doubt me I am a chemist. LOL

#4 Back in my juvenile days, Saltpeter and sugar in equal parts, CAREFULLY stirred on a stove, could make material for some mean smoke bombs...

#5 Alaska Paul was correct. AP Asia reports:
They also seized 330 pounds of potassium chlorate — a fertilizer that can be used to manufacture bombs — and a small pipe bomb.

#6 Back in my teen days, we made homemade gunpowder for fun. We blew stumps and snow cornices and started avelanches with pipe bombs. Saltpeter was ok but potassium chlorate was best. Looking back it was fun, and we were scientist-types then, but I will discourage my young son from playing around with this stuff. Maybe other fathers should discourage their kids from playing with this stuff, too.

#7 Yeah, stick to the safe stuff, like ammonium iodate...
