#5 Mama Russia has two main fears at the moment - Soon-to-be-Nuclear Radical Islam, + a Re-Armed, re-Militarized, Nuclear Germany despite the latter being its new Strategic Partner + BFF.

IMO the Crimea Crisis is mostly related to Russia's fear of Secular Turkey going Islamist + "Neo-Ottoman", + Hard Boy penetration into Slavic Eastern Europe, Caucasus, + Central Asia.

OTOH, the post-Crimea Ukraine Crisis vee East Ukraine Separatism goes not only to securing Russian Land-Air-Sea-space? access to the Crimea, BUT ALSO ABOUT KEEPING OR ENSURING THAT RUSSIA BFF GERMANY STAYS SECULAR, NEUTRAL, ESPEC NON-MILITARIZED + NON-NUCLEARIZED UNDER INTERNATIONAL = UNO CONTROL.

Read, NO RETURN OF NAZISM OR PRUSSIANISM.

It remains to be seen iff Darth Vlad can achieve the above given the still-rising ISIS/ISIL GLOBAL THREAT.
