#1 Quick thoughts:\
1. Yes, these films have their problematic scenes that look bad today. Times change, sometimes for the better.
2. Problematic or not, GWTW was playing 24-7 not so long ago in CNN headquarters, at no charge to anyone. Don Lemmon should be shocked, shocked that this was going on beneath his establishment.
3. All the people responsible for the content of these films are dead and cannot be reached for comment and cannot be doxxed.
4. TCM is in quandary, sort of their own making. They own the rights of many if not most the films they show. With lower costs than the basic cable reality/cooking show lineup, they could go on indefinitely if they wanted to, if only they wanted to be associated with their product.
5. It’s an ironic coincidence, isn’t it, that now we have instant access by streaming and Blu-Ray to the last 105 years of most of film with the best remastered audio and video since it was first shown, and much of it is nearly free. So now we have this sudden surge of wokism to discourage us from seeing it, this at a time when current Hollywood is halfway shutdown? Like live jazz or classical music, at some point your predecessors become your arch competitors.
6. In pop culture, those who fall behind the herd fall victim to becoming “camp.” Now it’s not the questionable stuff, but the better films of the great year of 1939, GWTW /Four Feathers / Gunga Din are getting the same treatment.
7. Never watch old movies for self-affirmation or in the daylight.
8. They’ll never take down the most modern old movie, Jimmy Cagney’s White Heat of 1949.

#3 My wife recorded "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and we watched it last night. During the introduction by TCM, we discovered the movie had its problems, which would be explored by the hosts after the movie.

O.K., so kidnapping six chicks in 1850's Oregon until they decide to become six wives is not a model for society. But it wasn't intended as such, in 1954, when it was nominated for five Academy Awards.

Fun movie, great voices, fabulous choreography.

My bride was not interested in watching the concluding "analysis".

#4 ...based on Roman mythology/history, it all sort of mixes together that early in the record keeping.

#5 ...Breakfast At Tiffany's also has Mickey Rooney's subtle, nuanced performance as Mr. Yunioshi.

Just kidding. It's so bad that it was considered cringe-inducing in 1961. To avoid any friction, I will simply suggest that any 'Burgers who haven't already seen that otherwise delightful movie look it up.

Before, of course, the references are deleted.

#6  Ref #2: Want to destroy a nation - erase their history.

Then do everything you possibly can to make the residents....

"Strangers in their own country."
~ David Abbott - 'Dark Albion: A Requiem for the English'

Failing that, move them off their farms, out of their successful small businesses, condone rampant crime, facilitate illegal immigration, kill them, or force them to move to other lands. The highly effective Zim/SA/UK model.

The centralization of wealth, industry, and control requires great effort.

Another Englishman suggested the cure - more than 100 years ago.

#12 TCM, Turner Classic Movies, what would Ted "mouth of the south" Turner have to say?

#13 Been trending this way with their hosts for some time now. Used to be the opening monologue was an introduction of ceremony celebrating a classic, then it became this is what the film means, and now, what you should think about it.

Generations spent building wonder around film, and television in some regards, trashed by cancel culture. Instead of starting with a story and building around it, they now insist starting with the appropriate number of woke boxes filled, select a topic, draw out a generic script, then purchase the title and story. It is batteries in backwards, and the humanities are worse for it.

#14 Look at what passes for television, particulary so-called comedy, today. Does anyone on the planet actually act that stupid?
No
