#1 Is there an election coming up? The UK seems to bring up the whole "Mumbai style attack" thing every time an election comes around.

#3 crosspatch, the 7/7 London attacks were intended to be a Mumbai-like event. I doubt the risk has been reduced since then - Mumbai is the sort of thing the jihadis hope to pull off in western countries.

As the flu showed this past winter, the UK is overly lean in some emergency / attack response capabilities. It's not a bad thing if the authorities took the lesson.

#4 Ive met with Dame Neville-Jones a long time ago . She is of 'good stock' , and is to put it mildly , extremely well informed .

If she said jump , I would . If she thinks something is a necessity , then I would trust her judgment . Her two predecessors never earnt my trust , a pair of sniveling ladder climbing weasels if ever there were a pair .
