#1 Wow, soon zero may come upon the idea of increasing refinery capacity by building new refineries on closed military bases all on his own.....

#2 whether to allow exploration for the first time along the U.S. East Coast

Not quite true. We drilled some exploration wells there some 30 years ago or so. Didn't find anything commercial.

#3 Another fine example of hypocrisy.
Imagine the screeching and howling if this had been floated during the last administration.

#4 Someone has obviously informed Barry that the US Government exercises oil lease rights from offshore drilling. I suspect he's already received corporate oil company commitments for his 2012 re-election campaign. Move over Jesse Jackson, we're in the big time now.

#5 Allow offshore drilling on the west coast and we will see if the O admin is serious. Heck, you can drill on land and go almost 40,000 ft offshore now by directional drilling.

#6 This is in areas where past explorations have shown little or no oil. This is all for show. "See, I'm trying to find new oil". Then when the EPA stifles every attempt he can say, "I tried. My hands are tied."

#7 Yup, a bone throw.

#8 Is he actually planning on opening the areas to leasing or are they going to be functionally off-limits to real drilling the way much of Utah has been?

#9 Personally I wouldn't be surprised if he opened up oil drilling....

... by China and Venezuela.

#10 This report conflicts with:

Administration Extends Ban on New Offshore Drilling to 2012

Hastings: This is now the ‘Obama Moratorium’ on offshore drilling and the responsibility for this delay lies squarely at his feet

WASHINGTON, D.C., Mar 8 - After more than a year of delays, Secretary of the Interior quietly announced last week that the Obama Administration will discard the 2010-2015 lease plan for new development on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) and wait until 2012 to put a new plan in the place. This means that the Administration’s initial six-month delay has turned into a three-year moratorium on new offshore drilling. Even if a new lease plan is implemented by July of 2012, no new lease sales will occur during President Obama’s term in office. It will also mark 45 months since Congress first lifted the moratorium.

#11 Great find, Snowy. This is obviously another redirect from Barry. Hope no one falls for it.

#12 I've learned fairly quickly not to listen to what Oblahbah says, but watch what he does. Look out for redirection rather than magic from this poseur.

#13 Also remember, the old "If you sign here giving up _this_ now I _might_ give you _that_ later" is one of the basic con jobs.

#14 From NJ South and along the east coast, but not the west coast. Besides the convenient pretense that he's open to drilling (when we already know there isn't any there) did you notice the political alignment of the places he is willing to let exploration occur? Overwhelmingly Republican leaning. SO he gets perceived credit ofr "drilling" but the locals get any blame for environmental consequence. Is there ANYTHING in US policy that this POS and his administration DONT see through a political lens?
