#1 One major reason for the decline of commie influence is the academic youth's abandonment of red doctrines. And the socialist face put on by mainstream political parties in India.

The academic abandonment is mainly because most of the KGB trained Indian intelligentsia of Indian Universities has died out. The current crop of doctrinaires is as mediocre as anything produced in suburban India with half knowledge and zero charisma.

#2 I suspect a lot of this is due to the rapid and dramatic economic improvement in India over the last 20 years.

Communism has never delivered what capitalism and free markets have for the Indians.
