One witness, who asked to be named only as Robert, told The Local he had seen a group of half a dozen people torch cars in the car park outside his home in Frölunda. His wife called the emergency services.

"We were very surprised. This area is usually very calm. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Six months ago it happened on the other side of the square. We've been living here for eight years," he said.

"We know from experience that these kinds of fires more often happen the week before schools start than other weeks," police spokesperson Ulla Brehm told the Swedish news agency TT.

I suspect this is the action of “migrant” yoots rather than natives, hinted at by Skidmark’s BBC article comparing this round of car-b-ques with the Moslem colonist riots of 2013:

There is no clear motive for the widespread destruction, but the arson echoes the damage done during riots in Stockholm over several nights in May 2013.

They followed the death of an elderly man who threatened police - vehicles were set alight in poor immigrant neighbourhoods, also by masked youths.

The 2013 riots sparked a debate about immigration in some circles, and unemployment and the widening gap between rich and poor in others.

Sweden is firmly in election season ahead of September's polls, and immigration remains a key issue.

#13 According to the Daily Mail, it went much farther than just Gothenburg:

Dozens of vehicles burned in Sweden's four major cities - Stockholm, Malmo, Gothenburg and Uppsala - on Monday evening and in the early hours of Tuesday.

Systematically setting cars on fire has become a associated with gang violence in suburbs in Sweden's major cities.

I think there is now enough evidence, veiled though it might be, to move this to P.1: WoT and tag it Moslem colonists.
