#1 Depends on which polls you read. My guess is Newsom will not be able to cheat enough to pull this one out.

#3 To bad the other Republicans on the ticket didn't withdraw to improve the chances of Elder who has the best chance.

#4 ^ I thought that was the plan for the country club/chamber of commerce Trunks. They play the Washington Generals to the Socialist Globetrotters. The give the Socialist the cover to use the term bi-partisan.

#5 rj and P2k, it doesn't work that way. I have the sample ballot right here on my desk. There are two questions on the ballot.

First question: Should Newsom be recalled?

Second question: Which of the listed candidates should replace him?

If the majority vote yes on the first question, the top vote getter on the second question is elected. If the majority vote no on the first question then the second question is moot.

#7 A lot of Californians, including most Republicans, even the country club and chamber of commerce types, are seriously pissed off at Newsom. Yes, I believe he will cheat by mail and any other way he can. The question is whether he can cheat enough.

I believe the Hispanic vote will not be reliably in his favor this time. Many Hispanics have been badly hurt by Newsom's lockdowns. Anybody who owned or worked in a restaurant got screwed. Anybody who had to miss work to stay home with kids got screwed. A lot of those people are Hispanics and they know they have Newsom to blame. Landlords got screwed.

And then, Elder is black so the black vote will not be reliably in Newsom's favor.

On TV, Newsom isn't saying anything on his own behalf. Instead, he has Elizabeth Warren trying to tell us that the recall is a waste of tax dollars, as if Newsom hasn't squandered billions. I don't believe anybody is dumb enough to believe Fauxcahontas.

Newsom can count on white liberals in the Bay Area and Los Angeles and he can count on the bogus vote. This time it might not be enough.

#8 Newsom will survive easily on the first question. No matter how badly he has done the 'people' are more afraid of the unknown being worse.

#9 Elder is straight out o' Crenshaw. Dems are gonna find that their usual constituents are suddenly AWOL. They're gonna have to cheat their way back bigtime.

#11 Los Angeles is quickly becoming a place exclusively for the white and rich

L.A.’s Black population has declined by 100,000 since the 1980s, falling from 13% of the County population to 8% in just a few decades. Hollywood alone saw the displacement of 13,000 Latinos between 2000 and 2010, pushed out by rising rents to make way for upscale redevelopment. These are just two of the most eye-popping figures that illustrate a larger point: Los Angeles is increasingly becoming solely accessible to the rich, and the rich are disproportionately white. (“Black and Mexican households have one cent for every dollar of wealth held by the average white household,” according to The Color of Wealth in Los Angeles.)

We are witnessing the rapid creation of a new geography of segregation and exclusion in Los Angeles, as areas seen as desirable are being purged of those who cannot afford the sky-high rents that inevitably follow.

The Westside and Downtown are linking up to create a contiguous zone where only wealthy people can afford to live, expanding into areas that have historically been populated by lower-income communities of color, predominantly Black and/or Latin@. What’s already happened to Silver Lake and Echo Park is proceeding full-steam ahead in places like Crenshaw, South Central, Boyle Heights, and Inglewood.

#12 ^
Was based upon 2016 Data - LA. is for the Rich - You guys are stuck and repeating myths - have a read.

Elder would be good for the State, but faces an uphill battle not on race, but on Newsome's invested friends, family (related to Pelosi), and their associates, business or otherwise, immediate and 1 or 2 removed. Newsome has a huge following, and they don't want their political bullet train to end.
