The ~~idiots~~ people believe in the pipe dream that the US economy doesn't need manufacturing jobs (or resource extraction jobs). They work in the service industry, government bureaucracy, or live on government support and believe that their paychecks are untouchable. They have already helped kill the steel industry and are happy that all those "messy (underclass) blue collar jobs" have gone overseas...

Union leadership: Self interest = "muh paycheck + politicians sucking up to me"

Both groups got what their short sightedness bought.
