The EO allows the loss of Federal funding as possible if the Univ. does not do what it can about antisemitism and defines antisemitism per the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition. This makes clear that Israel hatred that goes beyond ordinary criticism is antisemitism.

This was one of the most significant EOs of the Trump Admin and one that split the leftist alliance, e.g., the ACLU opposes it, the ADL supported it.

Use of the EO resulted in a limited win (change in policy but no formal apology or monetary implication) for Jewish Students at NYU earlier this year. The U of Illinois is the second deployment of the EO by the Brandeis Center
