This is notwithstanding the linguistic division between Cantonese and Mandurin, the various ethnic, rural vs urban, rich vs poor, etc. differences.

#3 China historically splinters into chaos and warlordism regularly, when the emperor by his deeds loses the mandate of heaven. So falling apart is orthogonal to their sense of nationhood or peoplehood.
