#1 Just a feeling, but I kinda suspect his Mum would strangle him with her bare hands before that would happen.

#3 ...Her Majesty isn't leaving Buckingham Palace any way except feet first, and apparently there's considerable speculation that she may be the first sitting monarch to crack 100 (She's 92 now, her mother made it to 101).

If that happens, Charles will - and hear me out - be deserving of some sympathy. At that point he'll be almost 80, and given Prince William's popularity, most people will simply be waiting for him to shuffle off this mortal coil before Wills takes over. He'll be remembered as an asterisk in British history.

#6 The Brits are one Labor gummint away from abolishing the monarchy. Like Brexit, they'll draw it out interminably and call it anything but what it is, but the end result is a lot of toffs suddenly at a loose end.

#8 It may be best if when the Queen gets ill, Charles takes a very extended holiday in a private place for the rest of his life.

Even though his sons have show some spirit in their lives, some of their recent actions are pure Charles and the line of Windsor is in serious trouble.

Treat them like the white farmers in South Africa?

#11 not being snarky - legit quesiton... are they not just figure heads now? They dont really have any control or power, so is it just a ceremonial position for tradition?

#12 Technically Sam, the queen could disband Parliament and remove the Prime Minister. But historically when the monarchy has done that there has been Civil War.

It seems she and the others are happy with just keeping things the way they are where the royals enjoy the life of leisure without all that government and country running bollocks.

#16 Legally, I believe that the deal is that if the Parliament stops paying the monarch a set income, they resume gathering the income from their Crown Lands, which include a great deal of extremely popular tourist traps throughout the country and places like Bermuda and the Channel Islands. They would become private citizens, but probably also the wealthiest people in the UK, and the British Government would lose all right to use their property for any reason without paying them, like any other property owner.
