#2 This is literally bringing it back home. The Assassins were a secret society of Muslims formed arount 1090 AD in the area which is now Iran, I believe, at the time of the Crusades. What a great way to commemorate the accomplishments and legacy of such an influential group in world history..........

#3 The real interesting story is that the Mongols first, circa 1256, conquered Afghanistan [check] which had suffered decades of anarchy, then destroyed the Assassins in a two year campaign [check], and then went on to incorporate Baghdad [in the 'to do' box] into their empire as the Ilkhanate. This included the execution of the ruler of Baghdad, rolled in a rug and trampled to death [actually a Mongol demonstration of respect]. No other army in the period could come close in skill and effectiveness to that of the Khan. It appears we've seen this story somewhere else.
