#1  Turkish intentions aside, the information seems to fit with what we already know about al-Qaeda activity in the Kurdish areas of Iraq and Ansar al-Islam. If I remember correctly, the group has previously used Turkish smuggling routes to transfer recruits from the Middle East and Europe to Chechnya.

In addition, keep in mind that al-Qaeda holds the modern Turkish republic as being responsible for the downfall of the caliphate by Attaturk as well as their taking part in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan.

Also, I believe the Turks have their own homegrown Islamist terrorists, the Turkish Hezbollah. Anybody here no whether or not they operate under al-Qaeda's aegis?

#2 If bona fide terrorists are found, I say kill them on the spot.

#3 I don't think Turkish Hezbollah's associated with al-Qaeda. There were suspicions that it was helped into existence by elements within the Turkish government as a counterweight to the Kurdish nationalists. Huseyin Velioglu, the group's founder and leader, was a sadist who videotaped around fifty torture-murders. He was bumped off by a sniper in a raid in 1997 but the tradition was set, and seems to continue. I haven't heard much about them lately, and I suspect they're either defunct or seriously damaged.
