#1 Send in a helicopter gunship as an aerial escort. If the convoy comes under fire and the origin can be determined, unload a rain of lead on the bastards. Sorry for the bloodthirsty tone, but this lawlessness in the disaster area is getting beyond excessive. I mean, firing on a medical convoy? Maybe it's time to start cutting out the tumors that were growing unnoticed before Katrina swept in.

#2 Via Drudge, there is this:

*******************
4:15 P.M. - (AP): Police say storm victims are being raped and beaten inside the New Orleans Convention Center.
About 15,200 people who had taken shelter at the convention center to await buses grew increasingly hostile.

Police Chief Eddie Compass says he sent in 88 officers to quell the situation at the building, but they were quickly beaten back by an angry mob.
Compass says, "We have individuals who are getting raped, we have individuals who are getting beaten."

He says tourists are walking in that direction and they are getting preyed upon.

In hopes of defusing the unrest at the convention center, Mayor Ray Nagin gave the refugees permission to march across a bridge to the city's unflooded west bank for whatever relief they can find. But the bedlam appeared to make leaving difficult.

#3 This situation was allowed to totally get out of hand. Now the authorities are in a world of deep sh*t. From the git-go the authorities needed a massive show of force, and that could only be done with the National Guard presence. Now it sounds like (in my uninformed opinion) there are still not enough law enforcement and and the rules of engagement are hamstringing them. This is anarchy.

My colleague has word that his surgeon son and daughter in law are waiting for helos on the top of the parking garage at Tulane, but helos are interrupted for other high priority movements. Where are the airborne assets and where is the firepower and authority to stop this mess in its tracks????

#4 Bush needs to declare Marshal Law under federal authority. It doesn't exist under LA law. Shoot the anarchists

#6 Declare martial law. suspend civil authority.

Get rid of the Major - he is as useless as a turd in a rainstorm -- put in someone who won't take any bullshit.

Shoot (to kill) these thugs, rapist, looters, and general assholes. No warning shots.

#7 I fail to understand why these people have to stand around and wait to be taken out. It's a twenty mile walk along the river on dry road from the convention center to passable open road in St. Charles Parish. Why sit and wait for 96 hours when you can walk out on your own in 10?

#8 Got word from my colleague's surgeon son and his wife at Tulane Hospital that their patients are all medivaced out by helo. Charity, a state hospital, needed medivacs, so the helo is going there. They were hauling 4 people at a time, or 2 litter cases. Tulane has food and water for the staff, so it is a waiting game for the staff there

#9 Information is scarce, but why cannot necessities be slung in by helicopter by cargo net? They could get a sh*tload of bottled water in quickly. But who really knows what is happening there?
