Apparently Saddam refuses to accept some legal realities explained to him by his previous lawyers. For example, on the issue of the gassing of Kurdish villages, he might insist on denying the events entirely, whereas his lawyers intended to argue that the events did happen but were justified by the circumstances. Or vice versa.

#3 I think this changing of the Lawyers is just a stall, they can change lawyers and complain that "The Lawyers are not prepared" continually until the court gets tired of the stalling.

Should keep him alive for many years if done right.
