#5 Let's not repeat the "they must *prove* he's alive with a live video" meme which exhausted itself already with Osama bin Laden, dead at Tora Bora, and Saddam Hussein, dead two dozen times during the invasion.

If Zarqawi was dead, the jihadis would most likely be playing up his "heroic martyrdom". Right now, neither side's saying Zarqawi's dead, so it's mere wishful thinking to believe he is.

#6 But they always deny the guy's been killed/captured/carried off by demons when it occurs. See Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Khattab, Abu Zubaydah, al-Muqrin, etc.

So the question remains open.
