#3 I think there's a faction of the Thai population - supportive of the coup plotters - that believes in an olive branch to Muslim separatists. I suspect that faction is finding out firsthand whether such a policy is workable. Much like the average American will discover whether policies that are nice to terrorists will result in a safer America, now that Democrats are in charge of both Houses of Congress.

#4 Destroy a local economy, make it unsafe and everyone that can afford to leave will. Then only the poorest, muslims, will be left. Then stand up and blame the problem on the non-muslims and you have the perfect plan to form an islamic controlled Soouthern Thailand. It's so simple even the dumb can do it.
