I think I have a solution to this discrepancy. Render Ahmed into a zombie state and his 40 years would feel like 38,000.

#4 Put him in a BIG cell with all-metal walls (good for echos), and pipe in whale "songs" at 120dB, 23 hours a day. Even 40 days of that will feel like 38,000 years.
