#4 E.G. - overthrowing Musharraf would be counter-productive; there are no viable successors who would do a less bad job than he. He'll appease us with an AQ sacrifice from time to time because he needs our support (money) to keep himself in power. Without our support he would be overthrown by the Islamofascists in the ISI in a heartbeat.

#7 I don't know how much 'popularity' any democratic groups might have, but it wouldn't matter - they don't have the organization, arms or attitude (ruthlessness) to overcome the real power base, an alliance of Islamists and ISI.

#10 Sharif and Bhutto (in exile in Saudi and the UAE) may be corrupt but the Corps Commanders of the Pakistani army are far more corrupt than they ever were. Lookup Fauji Foundation to understand.
There are former Pak leaders living in Rawalpindi who committed genocide. They actually killed 1-3 million people and got away with it.

Perv would just be replaced by another General and nothing would really change. It is the Pak army that runs Pakistan. It is a praetorian state.
The mullahs will never have power. They are simply a tool of the army.

The "apres moi, le deluge" threat has been used by every Pak leader since the very first PM in 1947.
Liqiat Ali Khan threatened India's Nehru with that. After him was supposed to be the bearded islamist rulers so Nehru should compromise.

#11 I've said it before - the solution to the Pakistan problem is to eliminate Pakistan. Divide it between Afghanistan (a reasonable Muslim state) and India along the Indus River. Eliminate or destroy all the madrassahs, and destroy any mosque where the Imam preaches violence.

Afghanistan will gain a couple of ports, lots of oil and natural gas, and the Pashtuns will be reunited. India gets the Punjab, most of Sindh, and Jammu/Kashmir. Muslims will become a minority among the Hindus in India. The ISI will be destroyed once and for all. Both Iran and Saudi Arabia lose several LARGE fortunes, and get set back to square one. The US gets a free hand at corraling and destroying both the Taliban and Al-Qaida. A huge group of forgers and counterfeiters get their necks stretched. More than a million fake passports become worthless overnight. Truly a win-win situation.
