Mao would have recruited the unrest by sending out student-cadres to organize public self-criticism rallies in which mid and low-level officials would have been forced to eat their own fingers. Then the remnants would have been put into communal cooking pots to up the protein content in the peasantry's diet.

Mao didn't screw around when it came to savagery.
