But will the Chinese believe it?

I think they will not because the US is stretched too thinly over afpak/iraq/homeland security

the war on Islamofascism is draining cash from the treasury and manpower from the military

the US cannot afford a war in Korea. So China knows it is just for show.

So China can bluster but it doesn't really care. It will still try to strong-arm the US into favourable currency policies thanks to the hermit kingdom.
