#1 The Seychelles are one of the weirder countries around, which does not mean they are pushovers. Technically they are an African country of only 88,000 people. But ethnically, they are mixed French, African, Indian, Chinese, and Arab. Their religion is 82% Roman Catholic and 6% Anglican. And their national flag is very different.

They were French until Napoleon, in 1810, when they officially capitulated to Britain, with a negotiated neutrality, a great status to have right then. They remained in British hands until independence.

In modern times, they had brief flings with both a military coup and socialism, neither of which they cared for. All told, I guess they could be complemented by saying that they played their cards right, more often than not.
