#2 Fred, I am glad you got out from under this. Must have been a pain. I think there must have been a lot of cursing by many.

What are the implications for the future? Still caution and creative posting?

Thanks for a great site.

#3 All I can say is

#4 Definitely still caution and creative posting. Keep "fair use" in mind when posting. I don't want to go through it a second time.

I'm continuing to work on the Translator, trying to keep articles comprehensible while changing them enough that automated search bots don't hit on their text. I also need to apply that bit of code to headlines, since if I was a bot I'd be looking there, too. Bright Pebbles has offered to help with the code, and Badanov's been doing yeoman's work, so maybe we can get it a little less primitive than it is now.

Picture filenames should also be changed; I do that fairly routinely and I resize them as well before I upload them. They sued Drudge over a picture.

Probably the biggest safeguard I've got going now is shutting down article content to all but members after rollover. It takes them a bit of time to buy the copyright and search for an article and then all they should get is the headline and link. If they sign up for membership then they're here under false pretenses and I'll bet I could talk EFF into countersuing them.

I'll likely keep the Bottomfeeders domain name and redirect the contribution buttons to EFF. I'm hoping that at some point in the future they might put together a class action against the trolls.

#8 Congrats and Thanks Fred. Good to see this site still up.

Now I suppose you're be sued by the association of scum sucking bottomfeeders for defamation of character.

#9 Awesome news Fred. Hopefully this will be the last of the Bottom Feeders for a some time. Keep up the good work and thanks for maintaining a great website. I always plug your site out on the Intertubes, where ever I can. Perhaps, I will be able to generate more fans for you.

What's to keep them from borrowing someone's nym and using it to mine for articles?

It also might not hurt to not reveal a poster's IP address in the sinktrap just in case.

Can you turn the title into a jpg and just post the jpg? Good luck using a search engine on that.

#13 Thanks for being out there on the front lines in the cyberspace component of the war, Fred. God bless you and Rantburg too.

#14 I have often wondered why you don't have a registration type of system to read in depth and comment and post articles.

#16 I don't comment here as often as I could, but I thank the Lord you have kept this sight up and running for almost 10years(at least for me, found this site on October of 2001). God bless you Fred, and may those Rghthvn Bastards make a mistake and get pile-drived into the ground.

#17 Great news Fred, congrats. I'm glad to know that's over for you and lament that it's prolly cost you quite a bit.

#19 Great news.

I do try to add, edit, shorten, switch paragraphs, and add photos. I assume that trips up the bots. I also look for (what I assume are)tracking tools - like a "--" when a "-" will do, or a "_" instead of a "-" and correct those 'errors'.

#21 To throw off article trackers Turn all spaces into & n b s p and a space. You could turn all characters into their entity values to to REALLY throw off the simpler web-bots.

#22 Problem there is when we or other outside organizations go looking for a particular string. I'm already damaging that with the translator function.

#23 Great news, Fred! Thanks for hanging in there. And thanks to BP and Bad for donating their coding skills. (I'd offer to help, but I don't know anything about it. If you can ever use skills I do have, though, please don't hesitate to ask.)

Keep up the good work! It's more important that you will ever know.
