#1 Hama - sandwiched between Idlib in the north and Homs in the south - with over 4x the population of Idlib, and the traditional home base of the Muslim Brothers, is the real stronghold. It's possible that the Syrian government is trying to cut off reinforcements and supplies from Idlib, just before government troops storm Hama. I would expect a vigorous defense of Idlib by the rebels, with reinforcements coming from both Aleppo and Hama.
