#1 Great more crime. Baltimore was once one of the friendliest cities. Then the riots now the crime.
They say you can never go back and unfortunately that is true here. Democratic control for far too long. When you travel don't go off the main roads. First chance the immigrants get they will leave. Guess where?.

#3 Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake (D) has told Latinos that she is counting on them to help Baltimore gain 10,000 families within a decade.

It won't help with the problems unless she redefines 'families' to be something other than Mommy and eight kids.

#4 I didn't mean that to be a racistcomment but it kind of sounds that way as I re-read it. I meant it as a cultural statement - that regardless of race, as soon as a family CAN escape that environment it WILL, leaving the city with the same disfunctional population it had before, but with some disfunctional Latino half-families added.

#5 Glenmore, it was the mayor who told Latinos that she was counting on them. She identified the group, not you. She made it a act of race. Further down in the story the line is - " Most cities that grew had Hispanics and, to a lesser degree, Asians to thank." Did she go out of her way to address the Asian community? Just last month the news was a buzz with headline like 'Asian immigrants to U.S. surpass Hispanics for first time'. Just remember on her side of the aisle, many have simply reclassified 'Asian' as the new white because of the degree of success in system and economy.

#6 Exactly how will adding approx. 9,000 new welfare families improve Baltimore?

They won't have jobs, they won't pay taxes, they will do nothing much more than consume services.

Global Detroit? Seriously? When did they stop teaching irony in schools?

Baltimore's population is falling because it is not a nice place to live, for a whole range of parameters. Just getting more people will not fix any of the actual problems. Not to hurt Mayor Steffie's feelings, but what kind of moron thinks like this?

#10 Not all immigrants are on welfare. Not by a long shot. And currently there are more Asian immigrants than Mexican. The welcoming of immigrants has definite cultural overtones. I suspect this is soft core ethnic cleansing.

#11 Shifting demographics is not only a local problem, but on the macro, a global problem as well. A study of older civilizations might reveal sub-Saharan Africa as an example of some extreme demographic shifting along with it's seemingly endless list of unsavory outcomes.

A blinding flash of course, but when unfettered immigration begins to radically alter demographics, cultural changes occur. Religions, languages, politics, street signs, all change. Native residents become uitlanders [outsiders], the culture of the newcomer becomes the norm. And so it goes.
