#1 According to Fred, "sorta", which means, it's back.

#2 Woohoo!

Is it illegal to just put those extra postgresql connections in the trash? Maybe just sell them on eBay.

#3 Iffin I could, I'd use them for target practice.

#4 I have go to say this, I have been suffering from Rantburg Withdrawal for the last 2 days, and none of my meds have been helping, not the Gin and Tonic, not the Scotch and water, nor the 7&7's ... I've started to get the DTs, for the occasional hits of news I've been going to FOX and Drudge, but it doesn't have the "Buzz" Rantburg gives me...

#5 Not being a techie, I have nothing to add ... but I also have been suffering from Rantburg withdrawal. Not so much yesterday, though - spent all day at a local community market, vending my books and my daughter's origami art.
Today I am recovering from the exertion ... look, spending all day outside in Texas in MAY will take a toll. Even if we were under the shade of our booth most of the time, we are both quite comprehensively unburned.
I did miss you today - and wondered what the heck was going on!

#7 I'd like to see some comments on this news tomorrow on the Burg:
http://news.yahoo.com/iran-says-copied-us-drone-181934723.html;_ylt=AwrSyCMO329TIRkAjCDQtDMD

Recalling the drone lost in Iran in 2011, refusal to destroy it, polite request from BhO to return it...

#8 I've been suffering mightily with Rantburg Tremens.

Thanks to all those techie people who helped (sorry I'm not one of them, but I do click through Rantburg every time I buy from Amazon, which I guess helps a little).

#10 Lastly, code that kicks Apache back into action if your Apache is passed out.

#12 As the Doc reminds us, we have a safe haven for times when the 'Burg is down, the Wheelus Machine Shop Break Room. It can be depended on in those rare times when we can't have nice things.

You can leave messages there when you can't here or in the O-club.

#13 The problem's the bots. I was watching the Apache log (and top) reflect connection after connection while we couldn't get in--virtually all the connections years ago. We've got twice the memory and twice the processors as the previous machine now, which is why we only crash occasionally.

Obviously what I was trying with the switch wasn't what works!

#14 Thanks, Bad. I've bookmarked that again. Lost all my old favorites when I changed computers, and am still trying to catch up.

#15 I am sure you are already using the .htaccess file to block bots, but here is a link anyway about the details.

Example of the contents of a .htaccess file (using internal IPs as examples even though your bot IPs will be external):

BrowserMatchNoCase SpammerRobot bad_bot
BrowserMatchNoCase SecurityHoleRobot bad_bot
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from env=bad_bot
Deny from 127.0.0.1
Deny from 192.168.1.1

#16 Lastly a nice detailed read on bots, spiders and other internet pest control.
