#2 I had a similar experience fishing the West Canada Creek in the Adirondak Mountains. A Bald Eagle flew down the river and suddenly dropped down right in front of me. It took me a moment to realise it had seen my spinning lure in the water. I stopped reeling it in. The eagle checked its dive and flew on.

#3 Eagles recovered from their low in a grand fashion.

On a hunting trip in MT a couple years ago, the guides (who I have used for several years) had started referring to them as "sky-otes", they were so common.

#4 Saw a video a year or so ago showing a guy feeding bald eagles on a fishing boat in Alaska. There were dozens of them on the deck, snacking up fish as he threw them out. It was pretty amazing to watch.

#5 Visited San Juan Island in Puget Sound in 1992, found many dozens of bald eagles scavenging a large number of dead salmon along the shoreline. First ones I had ever seen. Up until about 1980 I had not seen even a single raptor on my travels all over the USA.
