#4 I am still hoping for a solid gold asteroid to wipe out a joint session of Congress, with enough impact to clean house and enough gold to retire the national debt.

#7 Statement: “Due to the shutdown removing key members of the civilian workforce, the 45th Space Wing will not be able to support commercial static fires taking place on KSC.”

#8 Not we could do a damn thing about an impact now anaway. Earth has been hit in the past. It will get hit in the future. There are rocks out there with our name on them. Maybe at some point we can move them out of the way. But it requires a pretty long lead time. But don't ask NASA to get involved. Prioroties will shift. Administraions change and new emergencies crop up. Besides, NASA is the poster child for politicians that love to bitch about government waste while voting pork for their districts

A reminder that "commercial" space activities - looking at you, Musk - are not exactly exercises in Mieses School capitalism...

#15 I could be wrong but I do not think Nasa has ever stopped anything from hitting the Earth, not even man-made stuff like Mir and Skylab let alone an asteroid.
