#1 I'd suggest the death penalty for those spam calls from "local" spoofed numbers. I hate them

#2 I'd suggest the death penalty for those spam calls from "local" spoofed numbers.

Much too lenient.

#3 I suggest they pay me for every minute of my time. Starting when the phone rings.

#4 The telephone companies could get rid of these overnight if they wanted. They come from overseas with spoofed numbers. But they don't want to get rid of them because they're profitable.

#5 Herb is right. If the government fined the telecompanies $10,000 per every spoofed call, they would fix it right quick.

#6 But if you fix this, what's Vonage going to do?

#7 I still don't have unlimited calls on my cell, which they are not supposed to robocall anyway (in addition to being on the useless 'Do Not Call' list). And now they spoof being from our house phone, so I kind of have to answer them. Plus, if I don't my mailbox gets filled fast. Am grandfathered in to a good data plan, though when they stop that I will probably cancel the account and start over with a new number.

#8 While they're at it, I wish they'd put some teeth into the "stop sending me credit card applications" list. Capitol One delenda est.

#9 Spoofing of phone numbers is made possible by the phone companies. All I could do to retaliate was to cancel my land line.

#10 Cosmetic. This will have all the impact of the "Do Not Call" list.

#11 The phone number spoofing capability is what lets SWATters pull their stunts. The continued failure of phone companies to end this "feature" makes them accessories to acts that get people killed.

It's time to start charging them appropriately.

#13 No, no - wait!

We will get an "interagency working group -- which would be made up of both federal agencies and state entities -- would be tasked with providing Congress with recommendations"

They'll do something useful about the time the National Debt is erased.

#14 True story: after I cancelled my landline, I was trying to straighten out my final bill with AT&T. Got nowhere with the regular 800 customer support line. I called my state's public utility commission, and they referred me to the "executive customer support line" -- a different 800 number which indeed seemed to work better. That AT&T operator later asked me the number I was calling from - she said her Caller ID wasn't working.

#15 What's wrong with picking up the phone, unleashing a massive burp and hanging up on them? That's how I deal with that crap. Granted I picked that up from Howard Stern, but still...
