#3 A wag pointed out to me years ago some idiomatic expressions just don't translate directly: In France, anyone would be happy to "vivez dans le grande maison." In the US, nobody wants to "live in the big house."

If not closely monitored, intelligence methodologies employed against foreign adversaries can become handy tools for domestic political exploitation or monetary gain, or both. A case for this type of treasonous abuse appears quite likely.

Jonathan Jay Pollard comes quickly to mind.
